Ever see a new animal species and think, "I have to draw this thing?" That was my experience when I witnessed this post by @herpsandbirds. There's something so foreboding yet endearing about the Deepsea Lizardfish, and taking inspiration from the photos, I gave this one a starfish friend that wraps around him like a messenger bag. I also opted to keep his mouth and pupils completely black to match the darkness of his habitat and exaggerate his species' spooky, skull-like appearance.
