Elseworlds Addendum - Flatline

Young Nika was born somewhere in Russia.  A metahuman, she possessed the ability to absorb the skills and knowledge of those around her at the point of their death.  As a child, the nature of her burgeoning powers led her to be fascinated and down to death, a matter that greatly disturbed her parents.  Feeling misunderstood and neglected, Nika ran away from home in her adolescence.  She traveled to Japan and somehow sought out the acclaimed assassin known as Lord Deathman.   

Fascinated by the youth’s abilities, Deathman chose to take on Nika as his protégé and trained her in the ways of combat.  Lord Daethman and Nika took down many an accomplished fighter, and with each of these combatant’s deaths, Nika was able to absorb their skills and make them her own.  Before long, she had become one of the world’s greatest fighters, utterly proficient in a vast array of different fighting styles and uses of weaponry.   

Now known by the alias of ‘Flatline,’ Nika took part in the Lazarus Tournament, a mysterious competition where the greatest assassins from all over the globe fought one another.  Herein, Flatline met Robin (Damian Wayne).  Although the pair got off to a rough start, the two youths were something of kindred spirits with a great deal of mutual attraction between them.  They ended up close friends and the deadline Flatline would become Damian’s first girlfriend (aww :3).

The deadly Flatline first appeared in the pages of Detective Comics #1034 (May 2021).

Okay, but people should know that Skeleton is Lord Deathman, one of the funniest Batman villans ever. The woman he is kissing is Ra's Al-Ghuls mother, so Damian's great-grandmother. The girl Damian is kissing is Flatline, Lord Deathman's daughter. So Damian's step great grandfather is also his future father-in-law. This whole family has a type. Damian takes after his mother's side. 😂😂

So the robin comic was.... interesting...

First off, Ra's being a passive aggressive Father in law/grand father is my most favourite thing ever

One thing there’s is to understand is that Austin loves to kiss Y/n, he loves the feeling of her velvety lips on his, the warmth of her breath, the taste of her and the little whimpers she lets out every time

She is few good inches shorter than him, but he adores that, the way her chin tilts up, when she asks for a kiss, or how she looks at him through her long lashes

The height difference only makes kissing more exciting, having Austin come up with different ways to lock their lips, without too much strain on his back

When out in public, he usually just leans down as she stands on her tiptoes, his big hands cupping her face, while she hangs on his neck

Event parties are even better, as after watching twilight with her one time he made a promise to try something new. When she wears her high heels her nose is at level with his mouth, so only a head tilt would be enough to touch her lips, but he chooses every time, to circle her waist with his arms and bring her close, to stand on his feet.

At first she protested that she would ruin his shoes, but he simply replied “Darling I’d rather you ruin every pair of shoes I own, than not kiss you the way I want” then with a smile he’d catch her lips mid pout, feeling her smile against him

When at home, he would take advantage of every surface that he could lift her up on, the kitchen counter, the piano, the table, her vanity. He felt drunk in those moments, her legs tight around his waist, her hands in his hair and his at the small of her back, bringing her closer

Y/n loves to take baths so, Austin would often find her covered in a mountain of bubbles. When she’d see him walk into the bathroom she’d lean her head back on the edge of the tub, and he would kneel to kiss her

In bed he liked to feel the weight of her on his chest, so he’d pull her on top of him and kiss her face, nose, lips, everything, adoring the way his chest vibrated with each of her giggles.

Y/n does not mind at all being shorter than him, in fact she finds it very hot that he can tower of her form, but every now end then when there’s stairs, she would climb two steps up and tower over him, leaning down to kiss him, as he mimicked what she would usually do, his arms hanging around her shoulders with his head thrown back

But out of all the ways they kiss, their favorite must be, kissing in the rain, water soaking their clothes and hair, getting into their mouths as their lips move, the warmth of the hug they share as they lock lips, while the cold from around keeps them grounded

OKAY SO WHO ASKED FOR A POST THAT DETAILS DAMIANS CONNECTIONS TO MAGIC?.. nobody? oh okay.

(be forewarned, this is long)

now after ignoring batman 666, let's see what we have.

ROBIN: SON OF BATMAN (2015)

now, in robin: son of batman #1 It's confirmed that after his death in batman incorporated, damian went to hell. Hell is usually connected with the more magical side of the dc universe, but that's not it.

The entirety of the comic delves into damians connections to more mystical things. mythical swords and magical ancient towers, weird extinct bat-dragons, magical cults that want to destroy the whole world, etc etc.

this is easily regarded as one of damians best comics and having peak damian characterisation, so obviously Damian being magically inclined can easily work well with his character.

Now, after a barrel load of compliments, let's get to the extremely negative side of things.

TEEN TITANS (2016)

Damian's cloned brother has magic and that sentence is about as much as i care for this book. Moving on.

BATMAN (2016)

Again, dog shit damian characterisation, but here we go. Damian here actually shows an ability to use a binding spell and has a wand, making some sort of deal with a random demon, but a far cry from damian apparently selling his soul in batman 666. Moving on finally out of rebirth because that was a bad time for Damian's character.

ROBIN (2021)

Now we go back to the good. Apparently from the maternal part of damians family, magic is more commonplace. ra's even having a whole spell book to his name. Robin 2021 kinda toys with the ghul family and the lazarus pits magical and devilish side which isn't new... but it's new to involve damian!

In the final parts of this story, Damian's heart specifically is used as a plot device, lord deathman even dubbing it as "the bloodstream of the demon" and ruh (ra's' mother) uses it as a power source to fuel demon summonings, which started the Lazarus rain event.

TEEN TITANS DARK (Unreleased)

Back in early 2023 (i think) dc teased a sort of "teen titans dark" with damian, black alice and monkey prince. The "dark" moniker referencing Justice league dark, a magic team made up of magic users that solve magical bullshit. It's a good book, recommended read, i just thought I'd add this to the pile.

Detective comics/Knight terrors

Now, including these two together because they're about the same topic: Dreams.

damian is confirmed to have some sort of control over dreams and sleep, defeating demons that show up in his sleep, yet never actually disappear when he wakes up. He also has an ability to stay awake after a massive worldwide phenomenon causes everyone, even the dream masters that taught damian, to sleep and experience night terrors.

Dreams are, again, connected to the magical side of the dc universe. Now I'm not going to pretend like i actually read sandman to you, i can't lie on ramadan, so let's all give me a pass here for my lack of understanding of all that.

Batman and robin (2023)

In this, damian mentions a bit of off screen monster hunting with Frankenstein and lays a trap that lights someone on fire. I used to think this was some sort of hex but this artwork is extremely unclear, but since Frankenstein is mentioned and from my knowledge dc's Frankenstein is magic let's pretend this is some sort.

As an extra note: this guy definitely died. There's no way about it, he got lit on fire with nobody helping him. He's gone. Damian just killed a man.

Not only are these interpretations of talia EXTREMELY orientalist but also just generally out of character and could've been done with any randomly introduced characters.

For the unknowing white american people in the crowd: arabs actually don't only dress in revealing "belly dancer" outfits and lanterns. i know, shocking, we actually wear normal clothes.

And just to add again, there's a lot of stories that include ra's having magic, but I'm not the biggest ra's head (lol) so i didn't read them all, i implore u to do your own research because I'm not doing it.

- damian, heir to the league of assassins, and nika, heiress to lord deathman's criminal empire, engaged in an arranged marriage to 'strengthen bonds' between the two organisations

- damian, who had never envisioned an arranged marriage, raised on talia's stories of her's and bruce's passionate romance, unconsciously expecting to follow in her path

- nika, not exactly open to relationships due to the strained connections she had with her family

- at first, they're civil with each other at best: damian polite but cold and nika casual and flippant, neither trusting the other, purposely keeping distance to try and protect their group's interests

- after some time, they get closer and realise they share more in common than they first thought

obviously things don't go according to plan when damian and nika both realise they don't want to lead their respective organisations and flee (with talia's support)

“Are you alright?” Maka whispered before tightening her grip on his arm.

I dunno, am I? Soul thought as he looked to the side and noticed the way Maka’s eyebrows had been slightly furrowed in worry. However, his attention soon wandered towards how radiant she looked due to Marie’s handiwork in makeup and picking out a perfect dress to borrow for their wedding.

“Ye-yes, why wouldn’t I be?” Soul coughed out while watching Maka flash a smile at the crowd that’d gathered to watch them leave the courthouse.

“I don’t know, I just…thought you were acting a little off,” his wife replied, causing him to let out a long sigh due to how hard he’d been suppressing the urge to imagine all of this being real and not merely a favor between two friends.

“Oh well, I suppose I should try smiling a lil’ more. Wouldn’t wanna displease my wife,” he added before gently placing one of Maka’s hands within his own and feathering a kiss onto her knuckles.

The young man then looked up to see her gaping at him while he wondered if the soft blush across her cheekbones was a figment of his imagination.

“Hm, well I’m glad to hear it,” Maka whispered before grounding her feet to a halt and reaching up to peck him on the cheek, eliciting a set of gasps from the crowd.

The stopping point allowed Soul to get a perfect view of Blake, who seemed to flash him a wink before displaying the newsletter he’d been milking for the past week.

A Leaflet for Love

Soul Evans, one of our town’s most humble and prosperous farmers, had asked for a special section to be printed into Miss Maka Albarn’s copy of the Death Tribune this past week. It read as follows:

I am twenty two years old, have a rather peculiar set of teeth, believe in the wealth of Mister Deathman, and the merit of the crops which our town produces. I have taken up a State lot, cleared up eighteen acres last year, and seeded ten of it down.

My buckwheat looks first-rate, and the oats and potatoes are bully.

I have got nine sheep, a two-year-old bull, and two heifers, besides a house and barn.

I want to get married.

I want to buy bread-and-butter, hoop-skirts, and waterfalls for some person of the female persuasion during life. That's what's the matter with me.

But I don't know how to do it, as my world would shatter if none other than Miss Maka Albarn would give me the pleasure of being my wife.

“I just…don’t understand what I’m supposed to do sometimes, Soul,” Maka exclaimed before taking a swig out of a large wine bottle and passing it over to him.

“C’mon, you’re Maka Albarn, the toughest woman ta’ ever live,” Soul mumbled back while shifting the arm he’d snaked around her back.

He then took a large swig from the bottle while Maka slumped further against the pine tree they were seated under. The summer had graced the town with a cool evening breeze, which allowed the pair to have a perfect atmosphere for their nightly chats.

“Women are women to the lot, especially when it comes to business. Am I just supposed to waltz up to any investor, curtsy, and say good morning my name is Miss Maka Albarn and I’m inquiring about opening the first ever department store in Death City by myself,” she huffed, earning her a chortle from Soul.

“Well that’s where you’re wrong. I’m gonna be there to help you through it silly,” he added before regarding her with a shark-toothed grin, only to watch as her eyes became glazed over in deep thought.

“Hmm, help me out. That’s it!” the young woman yelped, eliciting Soul to jump at her sudden outburst.

“Soul….” she murmured before placing the wine bottle onto the ground and clasping both of her hands onto his own.

“Will you marry me?” Maka added while giving him an ardent stare, only for it to go unnoticed as the young man tried to wrap his mind around what she’d just said.

“Wha-“ Soul attempted to stammer out before feeling Maka’s grip on his hands begin to tighten.

“You could be the investor for me! I mean, you already have all this land and-“ Maka added, although Soul’s mind was too busy replaying those four words she’d uttered a moment ago.

Heh, kinda funny how I think about that stuff all the time. Me marryin’ Maka, her starting a business, us harvesting these fields every year until we’re an old married couple. Too bad…I can never really give her that life Soul mentally lamented before Maka slowly released his hands with a sigh.

“I-I mean only if you want to. It-it’s a request so please don’t-“

“Let’s do it,” the young man voiced while feeling a gentle warmth begin to creep up his chest once Maka’s emerald eyes settled upon his large grin.

“…Really?” she whispered, probing Soul into pressing his forehead against hers.

“Yea, if it means that much to ya’, let’s get hitched,” he added before Maka tackled him to the ground and hastily planted a set of kisses across his face.
