National Doctor's Day 2020: Find out why Doctor's Day is celebrated today.
New delhi date. 01 July 2020, Wednesday
Doctors not only treat patients struggling between life and death, but also give them a new life. That is why he is called the form of God on earth. They give new life to many people. National Doctors' Day is celebrated on July 1 every year to pay tribute to the dedication and sincerity of doctors. Doctor's Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary and Punyatithi to pay homage and honor to the country's renowned doctor Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was born on 1 July 1882 in Patna district of Bihar.
After completing his medical studies in Kolkata, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy earned his MRCP and FRCS degrees from London. He started his life as a doctor in India in 1911. He became a lecturer in Kolkata Medical College. From there he went to Campbell Medical School and then to Carmichael Medical College.
Who was Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy?
Dr. Bidhanchandra Roy has made a great contribution in the medical field. He tried to study for a doctorate from the prestigious St. Bartholomew Hospital in London but could not get into college because he was Indian at the time. Bidhanchandra did not give up and kept on applying to Dean for about a month and a half, finally accepting his 30th application by giving up on Dee. Due to his diligence, Bidhanchandra Roy obtained his degree in just two and a half years and at the same time became a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Doing so makes it possible for very few people.
After completing his studies, Dr. Roy came to India and did extensive work in the medical field. Dr. Bidhanchandra was born on July 1, 1882 and died on July 1, 1962. The same great physician Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy also became the second Chief Minister of West Bengal and is also called the Architect of the State of West Bengal for his visionary leadership. In the year 1961, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor.
How did Doctor's Day begin?
The day was started in India in 1991 by the former government. Since then, National Doctors' Day has been celebrated on July 1 every year. This day is celebrated to honor and pay homage to the great doctor of India and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Significance of National Doctors Day
National Doctors Day is even more important. The main purpose behind celebrating this day is to express their gratitude to the doctors for their contribution. Doctors have been instrumental in improving India's medical facilities. If our country today is able to fight the epidemic of Corona virus, then the doctors of the country have made a huge contribution. Last year, Doctor Day's theme was 'Zero Tolerance to Violence Against Doctors'. The Central Government started celebrating this day in the year 1991.

Bihar reports its first corona death - cities
PATNA
A 38-year-old Bihar man, who came back from Qatar, has died after contracting the coronavirus in the first known fatality in the state linked to the Covid-19 disease, officials said on Sunday while also announcing the first two cases of the fast-spreading contagion.
The resident of Munger was admitted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna on March 20 and died on March 21. He is the sixth Indian to die of the respiratory disease in the country so far and the youngest as well.
“The deceased was a patient of kidney disease and died on Saturday morning before his report came positive for coronavirus late in the evening,” Sanjay Kumar, Bihar’s principal secretary (health), said.
The senior official said that the man had flown from Qatar to Kolkata and travelled by train to Bihar 15 days ago. He added that he had developed some kidney problem and was admitted to a private hospital in Munger. He came to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and was admitted to AIIMS-P later.
Kumar confirmed that another woman, a 45-year-old resident of Patna whose son had travelled to Italy, has also tested positive for Sar-Cov-2, as the new coronavirus has been named.
“There was some misinformation in the morning. The woman who has tested positive has no travel history but her son had returned from Italy earlier this month,” said Kumar.
“He was put in quarantine and his sample had tested negative. We will test his sample again since his mother has tested positive for Covid-19,” he said.
Kumar said the woman had been admitted to the AIIMS, Patna and was put in isolation.
“We expect to get by evening the test report of another Covid-19 suspect, who returned from Scotland, and has been put in isolation at the Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH),” added Kumar.
These are the first positive cases from Bihar, which had not reported a single patient so far.
“We have so far received 129 samples and tested 88 of which two have turned positive of Covid-19,” Dr Pradeep Das, director of the Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences (RMRIMS), said.
RMRIMS is the only institute approved by the Centre for testing samples for Sar-Cov-2 in Bihar.
India has reported that 341 people have been infected with the virus so far.
The first victim to die of coronavirus was a 76-year-old man from Karnataka’s Kalburgi who succumbed on March 11 while being transported from one hospital to another. His samples tested positive for Sars-Cov-2 on March 13.
It was followed by the death of a 68-year-old woman from Delhi. She had contracted the infection from her son who had returned from abroad and the third death was reported from Mumbai on March 17, when a 64-year old succumbed to the disease at Kasturba Hospital in the city.
The fourth victim was a 70-year-old man who had arrived from Germany via Italy at Delhi airport on March 7 before heading to Punjab on the same day. He was a patient of diabetes and hypertension and was confirmed as Sars-Cov-2 positive just a day before his death on March 19.
The fifth Indian to die due to Covid-19 was a 63-year-old man in Mumbai, who also had diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.

India coronavirus: Bihar braces for ‘corona storm’

Image caption Bihar has ramped up coronavirus checking out alternatively it is tranquil too low, advise specialists
When Gopal Singh complained of severe chest trouble on 18 July, his family got disturbed.
The 65-year-frail had a historical past of breathing illnesses, and he had also suffered a heart attack in 2013.
So he got examined for coronavirus straight away. The finish consequence used to be obvious.
His family rushed him to the federal government sanatorium of their dwelling town of Katihar within the northern deliver of Bihar. The doctor suggested them to come to a decision him dwelling, which surprised his son, Vishal.
He told the doctor that his father had recovered from severe pneumonia ideally suited year, and used to be at greater menace. Nonetheless the advice remained unchanged.
At the same time as the family arranged an oxygen cylinder at dwelling, Vishal started contacting other hospitals. None had beds accessible.
Over the following 24 hours – as Mr Singh’s blood oxygen stage stored falling – Vishal got thru to a government sanatorium that had an ICU mattress free.
Image caption Vishal (left) with his mother, and father Gopal Singh
Then once more it used to be 90km (55 miles) away and he needed to search out an ambulance to come to a decision his father there, which he did.
They were on the formulation, and simply about at their destination, when it ran out of oxygen. Vishal frantically known as the sanatorium and asked for an oxygen cylinder to be made accessible on the gate.
As soon as they finally arrived, there used to be no-one on the gate – and in addition they were told there were no ICU beds accessible. They were asked to come to a decision Gopal to the isolation ward.
It used to be on the third flooring and the buy wasn’t working. So Vishal and his 60-year-frail mother took his father up the stairs on a stretcher. Vishal says no doctors or nurses came to seek Gopal.

Image caption In some cases, kinfolk of patients private needed to seize oxygen cylinders
He stumbled on 10 oxygen cylinders outside the ward, but none were paunchy. He says he old them, switching the cylinders once more and once more once more thru the evening.
By the morning, they made up our minds to shift Mr Singh to 1 more sanatorium. They’d barely driven for an hour when he died.
“I did all the pieces to place him however the system defeated us. He did not die, it is raze. He stored asking me to place him – he used to be so petrified,” Vishal says.
“I would not ever neglect his pleading eyes.”
Mr Singh’s loss of life is proof of the grave challenges that face Bihar, indubitably one of India’s most populous and poorest states, in its battle in opposition to Covid-19.
‘We did not concept on the correct scale’
To date, Bihar has recorded bigger than 33,000 cases, most of which were added in July. Then once more it has reported barely few deaths from the virus – 217. That’s a miles lower loss of life-toll than that of Andhra Pradesh (884), one more deliver which is witnessing a interesting uptick in case numbers.
Nonetheless that may perhaps well trade immediate, advise doctors and specialists, for the reason that deliver did not attain enough to shore up its crumbling health infrastructure in time.
Greater than 40% of the posts for healthcare employees are tranquil vacant, says Dr Sunil Kumar, the secretary of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Bihar. Right here is no topic repeated requests to the federal government, he adds.
“We knew Covid-19 will strike the deliver sooner than later, but we did not concept on the scale we needed to,” he says.
Most districts in Bihar also would not private enough ventilators, which private turn out to be important in treating emergency Covid-19 cases.
“There may perhaps be an acute scarcity of doctors who’re specialists in working the ventilator – that is a with out a doubt particular requirement – and the deliver must private concept of it,” Dr Kumar says.
The deliver government denies lapses on its phase, and has said it is constructing extra health infrastructure all true now.
Nonetheless Bihar faces bizarre challenges: For one, its indispensable healthcare community is primitive and suffers from decades of neglect. Many states private old those networks to envision and imprint successfully, or invent awareness about hand-washing and wearing masks.
It also has fewer top-rung government hospitals or private ones, which is inspiring to accommodate and treat patients right this moment. While fat cities corresponding to Delhi and Mumbai private also considered deaths due to the delayed admissions, specialists scare that a similar strain in Bihar may perhaps well consequence in a miles greater loss of life toll.
To private matters worse, flooding has begun in a few formula of the deliver, extra stymying its response.
‘Virus is going unchecked’
Dr Kumar says the upward push in case numbers shows that the an infection is spreading rapid, and to a ways flung corners of the deliver.
While Bihar has ramped up checking out, its checking out charges are tranquil amongst the bottom within the nation.
That turns into clear if you compare Bihar’s tests per million – about 3,500 – to Andhra Pradesh’s figure – some 28,000. Uttar Pradesh, a deliver more an a lot like Bihar with regards to resources and population size, is doing bigger than 7,000 tests per million.
Bihar is now averaging about 10,000 tests a day, but that’s tranquil too tiny brooding about it is dwelling to bigger than 100 million of us, Dr Kumar says.
“This implies that many infected of us are going unchecked and spreading the virus into communities,” he adds.
Bihar had the coolest thing about finding out from states savor Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, the put the an infection raged in Could presumably perhaps even and June. And a stringent nationwide lockdown – thru April and Could presumably perhaps even – also gave officers the opportunity to prepare for a rise in case numbers.

Image caption PPE kits were discarded correct outside some hospitals in Bihar
Nonetheless they did not act right this moment, failing to enlarge checking out. And the caseload too remained amongst the bottom within the nation till June.
The likelihood began to trade when the lockdown forced migrant labourers, without warning out of labor and money, to return dwelling to Bihar.
A doctor, who did not savor to be identified, said there were evident lapses in checking out and quarantining the employees who came dwelling.
There were reports of of us operating a ways from quarantine centres on fable of of contemptible management, and a few entirely dodging the screening process.
“All those lapses are with out a doubt costing the deliver – of us are dying on fable of of that negligence,” the doctor says.
‘Or not it is having a ogle grim’
Timely checking out and the typical of medication continue to be a danger.
Rajnish Bharti had a excessive fever and cough when he went to the federal government sanatorium in Bhagalpur district on 9 July.
He used to be told to come motivate motivate 10 days later as “there are too many folk on the waiting checklist”.
Mr Bharti’s condition worsened in that point, and he used to be admitted to the sanatorium as shortly as he examined obvious for the virus.
He says he met a doctor the day he used to be admitted, but no-one has visited him within the week since.
Image caption A entire lot of patients wanted to be given oxygen in sanatorium waiting areas
“A ward boy (helper) comes and throws medicines within the room. Or not it has been happening for five days,” he says.
He adds that he is disturbed he may perhaps well not accumulate oxygen in time if his condition deteriorates.
There is a phone amount that patients can call in case of an emergency, alternatively it is not manned 24×7.
Nonetheless those with “connections” can accumulate treated immediate, Mr Bharti says. By that he formulation those that are affluent or highly efficient enough to drag strings.
“If some VIP calls on your behalf, you are straight away looked after,” he adds.
A senior journalist in Patna, the deliver’s capital, who also did not savor to be named, said this used to be not uncommon. “Connections topic in states savor Bihar, and that most ceaselessly leaves out the sad who private nowhere to head,” he says.
“Nonetheless the formulation caseload is going up, I doubt that even connections can be of any attend in due route.”
A government doctor in Gaya district says the strain on the system is already constructing up.

Image caption Crew shortages mean kinfolk most ceaselessly attend patients, and without protective gear
“There may perhaps be an acute scarcity of crew, and I finish up having a ogle after 50-80 patients alone, with correct a nurse to attend,” he says.
He says that at cases, there don’t appear to be enough cleaning crew or assistants on fable of they’re all employed as contract employees with sad pay and no protection.
“They attach not hear to us and I cannot blame them. Would you bet your lifestyles for 5,000 rupees ($66: £52) a month? That’s correct peanuts,” he adds.
“We doctors are doing what we can, but I am with out a doubt disturbed. Or not it is having a ogle more and more grim every day as I seek of us struggling to place their kinfolk.”
