um. cas getting up every morning and making himself pb&j. every morning he does this and he sits quietly at the kitchen table and eats his pb&j sandwich with the same amount of delight as he does every morning. it’s his favorite food and he gets to eat it every day!! one morning dean comes into the kitchen while cas is eating his sandwich. he’s like can i have one too. cas is like sure dean :) would you like to sit with me dean :) dean is like yeah uh *trying not to cry because he knows how important cas’ pb&j time is* yeah i’d like that. makes himself a pb&j sandwich and sits across from cas. they eat in comfortable silence. cas is delighted that dean wants to join him for his routine and dean is delighted that cas feels comfortable enough to invite him in for this.

oh idk maybe stabbing your man in the heart at first sight and then having him defy heaven for you and then he beats you up and then defies heaven some more and then dies for you and then comes back and then betrays you and breaks your brothers brain but then you forgive him really easily and then you end up in purgatory together and you stay there for a whole year just to find him and then you rewrite your own memories cause it hurt too bad to know he left you and then he comes back and gets lobotomized and beats the shit outta you again only this time it's cause he's brainwashed but then you break the brainwashing by telling him you need him and then he becomes human and you want him to stay with you but the angel possessing your brother says no so you kick him out of your home and he has to find his own way and and then he forms an army but he gives them up just for you and then he tells you he would watch you murder the world and then idk more season 10 and 11 shit and thennnnn he's like possessed by lucifer and then he's not and he offers to come with you to fight the darkness but you hug him goodbye and he thinks you died and he's gutted but you're not dead and he hugs you in front of your mom and you let it happen so softly and then he kills a reaper for you and you give him a mixtape and then he DIES again and you all but cease functioning and you wanna die and you pray to god to bring him back and then he does come back and you're happy again and you put him in a cowboy hat and you keep him and his adorable devil spawn son around and—

the Holy Trinity of stanford!era dean centric fics:

if you tell me where you’re going, I’ll tell you where you’re bound (by paxlux): this story is a masterpiece. very distinct atmosphere and flow, paxlux was incredible at setting the tone. personally, i find this to have the most accurate portrayal of dean during that period, it nails his mental & emotional state, as well as his mood swings and coping mechanisms. this is one of those stories that are hard to describe because they must be experienced.

Odysseus, American (by coyotesuspect): this is the only one that actually contains sam/dean scenes. gorgeous and immersive and achy. the author did a wonderful job drawing parallels and putting this story together, it is rich with emotion in a way that feels natural and true. the ending ties everything up neatly.

December, Sutter County (by elsi): i liked how this was set during the end of the year, the first time dean spends the holidays truly alone. the setting made dean's loneliness even more obvious, but the story in itself is very subtle, for the most part. another lovely character study that does dean justice.

Dean looked up from the computer at Sam, mindlessly staring at the thickest book in the world, anxiously chewing on his nails. If Dean didn't stop this right now, he'd tear right down to the bone.

Dean tapped his knuckles two times on the tabletop. Without hesitating or thinking about it, Sam stopped chewing on his nails.

Dean smirked. Worked like a charm every time.

"I'm getting coffee. Want anything?"

Sam didn't even look at him. Just flipped the page to continue research. "No thanks, I'm good."

This ficlet is called "You are perfect the way you are" (also available on AO3). This came to me because I wasn't feeling so great. I wanted to hear those words, instead I wrote them. But if you need to hear them too, then this is my gift to you. And also, you are perfect the way you are! This is clearly not my most elaborate fic but if it can help at least one person to feel better, then it makes my day. I hope you'll enjoy reading it:

"I love you." Cas declares, his arms holding himself up above Dean, his hands resting on the mattress at each side of his face.

"What's that for?" Dean chuckles, because what else can he do when Cas is facing him, blue eyes piercing deep in his, honesty all over his face.

"You are smart." He says, kissing his forehead.

"Right." Dean answers, not believing a word of it.

"You are funny." Cas adds, kissing the tip of his nose.

"Cas." Dean says quietly, he wants to tell him to stop but he can't.

"You are kind." Cas keeps trailing his road, kissing Dean's cheek, noticing the light blush starting to grow there. Dean wants to hide it, so he turns his face towards Cas's arm. "Dean." Cas tries to make him look at him again, but without success. Instead he uses his other hand to grab Dean's chin and make him look up at him. They lock eyes and he adds, "you are beautiful." And he kisses his lips before Dean gets the chance to look away again. It's a chaste and soft kiss. Dean chases it when Cas moves his head away.

"Are you done?" Dean asks, acting annoyed but his blush betrays him.

"No." Cas answers, squinting his eyes. "Did you listen to what I said?"

"Yeah. I'm clearly out of your league." Dean jokes, but Cas isn't.

"Dean!" He says loudly, frowning. He softens quickly when Dean looks up, his eyes wide open, surprised by Cas's tone. "You are perfect the way you are and I love you." Cas insists on every syllables, never looking away from Dean's eyes. Even when you're joking and it's not the time, he thinks. Dean can't escape this, trapped by Cas's body against the mattress. The only thing he can do is watch how sincere Cas looks when he pronounces those words.

"I love you too, Cas." Dean whispers, lifting his upper body from the mattress to reach out for Cas's lips with his. That kiss is not as chaste as the previous one. He grabs the back of his neck and pulls him down with him.
