how do some of you motherfuckers watch supernatural and end up hating one of the brothers??? how do you hate Dean Winchester for having a world dooming loyalty to his family? how do you hate Sam Winchester for having that justified rage that wants so desperately to come out? how are you not both of them at once, choking in understanding every time they hurt one another because they think they have to?

um. cas getting up every morning and making himself pb&j. every morning he does this and he sits quietly at the kitchen table and eats his pb&j sandwich with the same amount of delight as he does every morning. it’s his favorite food and he gets to eat it every day!! one morning dean comes into the kitchen while cas is eating his sandwich. he’s like can i have one too. cas is like sure dean :) would you like to sit with me dean :) dean is like yeah uh *trying not to cry because he knows how important cas’ pb&j time is* yeah i’d like that. makes himself a pb&j sandwich and sits across from cas. they eat in comfortable silence. cas is delighted that dean wants to join him for his routine and dean is delighted that cas feels comfortable enough to invite him in for this.

Halfway through season 9 of supernatural and I think gadreel might actually be the funniest character. He randomly possesses Sam just to glare at Dean sometimes and maybe remind him to keep gaslighting people. He talks like depressed Shakespeare. He asked Dean how well he played Sam when he was pretending to be him. He killed Kevin and then immediately labeled him with a sticky note for no discernable reason. He listens on on everybody's conversations. He even made Dean kick his boyfriend out of the house somehow. This man is like a court jester to me and I am obsessed with him

i’m rewatching supernatural again (because of course i am) and i’m on season 5. i noticed something in episode 11, “Sam, Interrupted.”

the wraith makes them start to lose their wits and when it really starts to settle in sam is the one to get violent and lash out. he starts punching the air, thinking the orderlies and the patients are calling him names, and when they try to restrain him he fights back.

and dean, the notoriously violent and scarier of the brothers, falls into crippling panic and anxiety. he forgets how to fight, freezes in fear, and lets himself get beat up and basically gives up. i mean sam is taking swings at the air and dean is literally watching the entire thing happen, mumbling in a chair, and rocking back and forth.

and of course, because it’s supernatural, this drastic change in personality is never talked about again. but yea.

i just think it’s interesting that the brother that uses violence (and alcohol but thats for another post) as a coping mechanism basically forgets all of that as soon as his anxieties and problems are heightened and turns into a ball of panic attacks and fear. and brother who makes a big speech at the end of the episode about the wraith being right and him being truly violent and angry, turns into exactly that.

anyways just another small thing that isn’t so small that the supernatural writers completely ignore after mentioning it and acting like the boys’ issues don’t exist. :D

Dean meeting Adam is something I think about very often. Because up until then, he knew Sam was the favorite, but that was okay because Dean loved Sam more too. He understood.

Then, he meets Adam and learns that John loved him more than Dean, too. He took him to a Baseball game on his birthday. And that was the moment he realized it was never about Sam, It was Dean.

Dean was only good as a soldier, not a son.

the Holy Trinity of stanford!era dean centric fics:

if you tell me where you’re going, I’ll tell you where you’re bound (by paxlux): this story is a masterpiece. very distinct atmosphere and flow, paxlux was incredible at setting the tone. personally, i find this to have the most accurate portrayal of dean during that period, it nails his mental & emotional state, as well as his mood swings and coping mechanisms. this is one of those stories that are hard to describe because they must be experienced.

Odysseus, American (by coyotesuspect): this is the only one that actually contains sam/dean scenes. gorgeous and immersive and achy. the author did a wonderful job drawing parallels and putting this story together, it is rich with emotion in a way that feels natural and true. the ending ties everything up neatly.

December, Sutter County (by elsi): i liked how this was set during the end of the year, the first time dean spends the holidays truly alone. the setting made dean's loneliness even more obvious, but the story in itself is very subtle, for the most part. another lovely character study that does dean justice.
