I kind of don't like how a lot of people forget that despite all the angst and the drama around Dean and Cas they are fundamentaly best friends.

How many times did Dean say it throught the entire show? Bobby in season 6 saying "Well, you just lost the best friend you ever had."

For Bobby to say that, knowing Dean better than even Sam in some regards, how many times had Dean been sitting with Castiel on the couch in his living room?

Cas doesn't sleep, and rarely does Dean, with the Apocalypse looming right behind him.

So all they had left, in those quiet nights were each other. And they were okay with it, because they liked each other's company.

Dean going to see Cas’s body by himself. Pulling back the sheet so slowly, so achingly nervous to see what he already knows is under it. And then he sees him lying there, cold, unmoving, color drained from his skin and he just can’t do it. Can’t even bring himself to look at him like that. He covers him back up and then grabs the curtains, a mourner ready to take care of the man he loves one last time. He ties the cloth around him but his hands hesitate as they tie the knots. He wishes so badly that he didn’t have to do it, that this wasn’t his reality. But it is and he has to be the one to do it. Sure, Sam could do it but it wouldn’t be the same. Cas always took care of Dean, always treated him so gently, it was Dean’s turn to take the time and make sure Cas was comfortable and looked after. It’s what he deserved, one last time.

It's the first unanswered call in 15 years with his hands in his hair and sobbing on the ground.

It's the declaration of desperation, to do anything to keep the man he loves safe.

It's throwing his life away on a normal hunt to see him again.

I looooove love Widower Castiel! There are never enough fics! The idea of Castiel finding out that the one person who fundamentally changed his existence. He felt such a deep profound love he turned his back on everything he’s know for millennia, for this one human. He doesn’t think he’ll ever outlive Dean, he doesn’t believe even with the dangers of there life that he would ever have to live without him. Until he does. I wanna see the cosmic destruction a grieving Cas would unleash upon the world. I mean look at what he did to Donnetello, even though Dean was fine he just choked him a lil. Ugh it would be amazing to see! Would Sam even be in it? If he is, would he try and stop either Cas’ one Angel war against who/whatever killed Dean? Or if you go the sad route would Sam be there to try and console Cas to stop his (unintentional or not) unraveling of the universe? Idk either way I feel like it has so much potential to be an amazing display of the love Cas has for Dean.

Widower Castiel would have been so good. He would have turned into Godstiel 2.0 and bowed to destroy everything until Chuck himself had brought Dean back. He would not have been reasonable at all.
