Finally finally finally got my tax refund so maybe (very hesitant, barely hopeful, more fear in this statement than not) things will get better from here!
#I know I say x amount of money would fix everything but what's crazy is that it really doesn't#how fast a good lump sum of money goes when you've got bills#and now I have to start car shopping. I'm gonna have to finance which is gonna be another bill every month#but there aren't any cars on the market that I can afford to buy straight off that won't land me back in this same situation in a year or 2#I hate the idea of owing even more money to someone else. it genuinely makes me nauseous#like I know it's for the best bc at least with a newer car I'll have longer with it before it breaks down on me#and if it breaks down before I pay it off I can just be a bitch to the dealership I buy from and get whatever I need#but god.#idk. I just have to figure out the car situation and hopefully everything will improve from there#I've got til the end of September before my current car's tags die#I just hope my bank will approve me for financing bc if I have to go through a dealership it's gonna fucking kill me#anyways. I'm gonna be just a tiny bit optimistic. I'm gonna try to be.

When industry has let you down, you gotta get weird. Do you remember the last time that one of your beloved childhood candies got discontinued by the manufacturer? Someone in a regular ol' residential kitchen, much like yours, decided to just make their own version of that candy. If those corporate motherfuckers won't give it to me, they said, I'll take it. They're eating it right now, while you sob into your Wheaties about how terribly capitalism has treated you.
Me, I love to do this kind of thing too. Spite is my fuel. Sure, it's nice to have the goodies of the past again. What really gets my motor running, though, is the opportunity to really piss off the folks trying to scalp what's left.
Yeah, we got the last eighteen boxes of this kind of connector you need, and we want seven hundred bucks for each of them. Guess what, asshole? I can trick the library into 3D-printing a bunch of them, and then trick AliExpress into making exact copies of them. Now the market price is seven cents, and none of those pennies are going to your dumb market-cornering ass. Sorry. It's capitalism.
Like any good thing, though, I may have taken it too far. The other day, the dealership wanted four dollars for a replacement clip for my sunroof. Instead of paying them that blood money, I spent hours of my own, precious time on this earth cloning it. Now, after all this effort, I can make them myself for about three dollars and ninety-six cents. Unless you price in all the failed prototypes, which nobody does. Also, they don't work as well as the real thing, so I have to make a lot so I have spares. Sometimes being a warrior against the forces of entropy means having to make a sacrifice.
If you're also into this weird hobby, let me know. I've been looking to get a new house, and I don't like the idea of paying people who know what they're doing for it. We can probably make some kind of enormous 3D printer and just crank out an entire bungalow out of microplastics. Call me.

This is probably the craziest first post you'll ever see, especially since this is the first thing I'm posting here, and you're probably thinking 'who's this stranger on my dash with all this info I have no need to hear... but this felt like the perfect place to get this off my chest so here it goes...
I went to a car dealership to see what was on the market and agreed to go back to look at a car that I definitely don’t need tomorrow. Is it just me, or is it really alarming how good salespeople can be? But also, how do I say no tomorrow. It's a nice car, but I really, really don't need it. Seriously, I have no idea how I always get myself into situations like this, but it's a problem.

Sir Vival, the two-piece safety Hudson
Sir Vival, Walter Jerome's Hudson-based concept for the ultimate safety car, last moved under its own power sometime around when he showed the car at the New York World's Fair in 1964 or 1965. Since then, it's been split apart, reassembled, shuffled all over eastern Massachusetts, and remained hidden more or less in plain sight, but nobody's made an attempt to get it running again. That'll change now that longtime owner Ed Moore of Bellingham Auto Sales has sold Sir Vival to Jeff Lane of the Lane Motor Museum.
"It'll be the perfect fit," Lane said. "I've been pestering him about it for a while."
Moore, as we reported in November, has decided to close the doors at Bellingham, which he considers the last active Hudson dealership in the world, and has been either selling off his inventory of cars and parts or transferring portions of his lifelong collection to his house nearby.
In 1958, Worcester-based Walter Jerome decided it was about time somebody built a car designed primarily for safety and not for looks or speed. Rapidly increasing numbers of highway deaths - especially in the postwar period - led many to call for greater automotive safety as early as 1947, but the response from Detroit was tepid at best throughout the Fifties. Ford made a few gestures at improving automotive safety, including funding a study on safety cars at Cornell, but it largely fell to independents and individuals to build cars with safety features designed into the vehicle.
Jerome decided to start with a step-down Hudson - which he bought from Bellingham - and split it into two sections "to anticipate the possibility of collision from any angle." Similar to Bela Barenyi's idea for the crumple zone, Jerome intended the front section, mounted via a hinge to the rear section, to absorb a collision rather than deflect one, noting that the rigidity of typical cars was what led to injuries and deaths in collisions. To each of the two sections, Jerome added steel bumpers that acted, in his words, like a second frame, and rubber bumpers around the steel designed to redirect all but direct collisions. Yes, he built a full-size bumper car.
He didn't stop there. The driver controlled the car from a turret-mounted central driver's seat surrounded by a "full circle" windshield for greater visibility. (According to Jerome's literature, the windshield itself rotated past stationary windshield wipers as part of Jerome's quest for maximum driver visibility.) The exterior is fitted with high-visibility marker and signal lamps; the parallelogram doors are designed not to pop open in a crash; and the interior features seat belts, padding, and even a rollbar.
"It is all too obvious that Detroit has no plans to come up with anything really new," Jerome wrote. "Their 1964 cars are already on the drawing boards and spring from the same rigid frames. I hold that human life is important, far more important than Detroit's worry about the cost of retooling to produce an automobile which will save human lives. Adoption of the flexible Sir Vival design would make rigid vehicles obsolete and create a new market, almost immediately, for 65 million vehicles."
Moore and his family assisted Jerome over the years with Sir Vival, including one episode Moore recalls in which he went to Worcester to retrieve the vehicle from the fourth floor of a warehouse, where Jerome had stored it in two pieces, so it could be reassembled and transported to Jerome's house on Cape Cod. After Jerome's death in the early 1970s, the Moores took possession of Sir Vival and brought it back to Bellingham. While Moore had hoped Sir Vival would have gone to Eldon Hostetler's Hudson museum, it turned out fortuitous that he didn't donate it to Hostetler, given that the museum was closed and liquidated in 2018. Sir Vival has thus primarily sat in its pride of place in Bellingham Auto Sales's garage ever since.
"It needs gone right through," Moore said. "It's not really something I want to take home and just let it sit there. Jeff, he's the guy who'd really appreciate it. He'll build it and do it right."
Lane said he's only seen Sir Vival once in person, when he spent an entire day up at Bellingham Auto Parts four or five years ago. "I recall it as not terrible, but also not in great condition," he said. "It's not like it's been outside for 40 years, rusting away." While he won't have a more definitive plan about what to do with Sir Vival until he picks it up later this month, he said he wants to go through it mechanically without restoring the entire car, if possible.
"I'd say the closest it comes to any other vehicle in the (Lane Motor Museum's) collection is the Dymaxion," Lane said. "It's a really interesting story but it's really been pretty much hidden away from the general public."
Moore, for his part, said he'll continue selling Hudsons from his home garage even after the Bellingham Auto Sales property becomes a warehouse. "I still have my new and used car licenses," he said. "I know I can't keep them all, but I've tried."
UPDATE (6.January 2023): The Lane has started restoration on Sir Vival, according to a Facebook post from the museum. "Sir Vival has been separated into two pieces, and the automotive archaeology begins!"

Enterra Vipre
The Enterra Vipre was developed in the mid-1980s by a group of waiters at the Keg Restaurant on Vancouver’s Granville Island. Somehow they managed to secure a grant from the Canadian Scientific Research Council for $10 million CAD, and perhaps not surprisingly it all went wrong shortly after.
Whoever these waiters were they were astonishingly adept salesmen. Not only did they talk their way into that $10 million CAD government grant, but they also talked General Motors into selling their cars in the USA right out of Pontiac dealerships – with a full manufacturer’s warranty no less.
Exactly how a group of waiters came up with the idea of starting their own car company may be lost to history, but we do know that in the early-to-mid 1980s the waitstaff at the Keg Restaurant on Vancouver’s Granville Island hatched a plan to launch their own custom car brand and call it Cymbria.
Rather than building a car from scratch as Bricklin has done a decade earlier before collapsing into bankruptcy the team at Cymbria decided too instead base their car on a preexisting production sports car to save time and money.
The car they chose was arguably the hottest American sports car of the time, the Pontiac Fiero, an affordable mid-engined car with a lightweight fiberglass body. Cymbria developed their own custom bolt-on fiberglass body for the car, then they developed a more luxurious interior, they doubled the sticker price, and put their car on the market.
By the time the initial problems with the body moulds and ill-fitting panels had been rectified it was 1986 and the company had changed its name to Enterra, possibly as a way to leave some space between themselves and the negative press that the earlier 1984 Cymbria prototype had attracted.
The styling of the Enterra Vipre was perhaps a little misleading. It looked like a mid-engined supercar that was doing 200 mph even standing still. In reality it was powered by the standard 2.8 liter Pontiac V6 making just 140 bhp and 170 lb ft of torque.
When the Fiero was still new and exciting back in 1983 and 1984 many kit car and low-volume automakers hailed it as their savior. Its steel spaceframe chassis, mid-engined layout, and easy-to-remove fiberglass outer body panels made it ideally suited to modification. Countless Ferrari replica kit cars were based on the Fiero, there were also Lamborghini kits, and kits replicating other models. Interestingly one of those Ferrari replica designs was the Pontiac Mera – it had a bodykit designed to emulate the Ferrari 308 GTS which was being used in the popular Magnum P.I. TV series in the 1980s. 159 of them were made and sold through Pontiac dealers in the USA before the Ferrari lawyers got involved and shut the operation down. The Canadian answer to this Fiero phenomenon was the Enterra Vipre. Its design was clearly influenced by the Ferraris of the time including the F40, though it was carefully designed so as not to be a replica of any single model – therefore resistant to the famously litigious Ferrari legal representatives in the United States.
The first prototype was built in 1984 as the Cymbria Vipre, however the poor fitment of the fiberglass body panels and overall build quality left a lot to be desired. The moulds had to be completely redone, by the time they were ready it was 1986. The car was relaunched, now as the Enterra Vipre, with a price of over $30,000 USD – the equivalent to $71,277 USD in 2023 and roughly double the cost of a standard V6 Fiero.
Despite the fact that the car was being sold through selected Pontiac dealerships in the USA it was a complete flop. The lack of brandname awareness for Enterra coupled with the high price and the fact that the car had slightly worse performance than the stock V6 Fiero (due to to the larger/heavier body) resulted in dismal sales.

the adler lineage has owned and managed several car dealerships over the last five decades, earning them a solid reputation in their community. the idea is that the dealerships will be equally distributed to danny and his cousins, when the time comes for them to take over.
has always been super into cars. not necessarily the highest retail price, but more so the money, mods, and work that can be put into a good build. evidently, he works at a vehicle customization and repair shop, just a few miles north of los angeles . if you wanna pimp your ride, he's your guy.
la parties and souped up vehicles introduced him to the world of illegal street racing in his early twenties, and he's been hooked ever since. the adrenaline he gets from ripping around city streets is a better hit than any drug on the market.
ever since he was a kid, his family has vacationed in blackwood mountain every year, until all the kids grew up and everyone was too busy with their own lives. danny, however, has kept up the tradition on his own with friends. he says it's for the change in scenery, but deep down, it serves as an escape from the numb existence waiting for him back home.

Ah man the "good morning baby" cuddle to an empty bed with no note and no messages is telling I'm sure to Amanda on how Miyagi do isn't just a passing phase anymore.
Amanda is still kinda in denial or at least hopeful since she asked if Daniel was at the dealership already.
They're supposed to have lunch with Anoush. Which, quick reminder, amidst everything Tom Cole came and stole Daniel's staff (cough the way Daniel stole Johnny's students) and they moved Anoush from the dealership he liked working at due to it, and then rather than help out or attend marketing or other meetings Daniel's been at the dojo. And because Daniel didn't tell Johnny where Robby was, Johnny showed up and punched Anoush in the side/stomach even though Anoush tried to defend and keep them safe not aware that Robby is a minor and Daniel hadn't told either of his parents where he was.
Oh and he climbed up to repaint the billboard with Louie rather than Daniel hiring professionals to do it.
It'd be one thing if it was Johnny there to be like hey, I'm sorry about your dojo. But Kreese literally knows Hawk did it.
It's interesting how when someone else confronts Daniel with very specific terminology he says they're kids, not soldiers and it's not war. Yet the mongoose brain is kind of treating it as such.
Kreese asks if Daniel teaches karate or gardening. (Which fair, why's there so many rocks in your dojo?!) and then puts out his cigar in one of the bonsai, which booo bad grandpa, booo don't hurt the plants.
Regards to Mr. Miyagi. What are you going to do Kreese, murder Daniel? Like what does that even mean?????
He's not going to let Johnny lose this time, and thanks for taking our weakest soldiers. Bud. This is not the route Johnny wanted to go. And other than to scare Daniel why were you here? He had no idea that Daniel would be there that early let alone that day at all. Was he hoping to catch Robby?
Does it count as breaking and entering when it's no longer a home but a dojo?
Yasmine is in France and Moon is no longer hanging out with Aisha and Tory because she broke up with Hawk so now she's back to hanging out with Sam. Moon: Hemp oil is supposed to balance your kinetic energy don't know if it'll get you high though. (Please have her make one of these for everyone else lol)
Moon looks so at home that I didn't realize this is Sam's room. They moved some of her stuff around like her bed.
Moon is there to help Sam pick out her work out outfit.
Miguel tells Johnny he's sorry about his loss. Which means everyone in the dojo and Kreese surely must know that Tommy has passed. Yet Miguel's the only one to talk to him. Johnny went to the funeral before coming back.
Kreese didn't just subtly move things around, because Johnny instantly does a double take upon seeing his desk before he even clocks that Kreese hung up a photo of himself on the wall.
Kreese uses paying bills and doing invoices as an excuse for reorganizing.
I guess Kreese is also a two time champ. Think Silver is too? Kreese also says a buddy of his took that photo. Do you think it's Silver or one of the friends that passed away?
I suppose neither Kreese nor Johnny communicated on their plans for the day. Which is interesting because Johnny must've communicated with someone to say he was going to a funeral and yet he doesn't know the kids are going to the woods and not training in their gi's. Which Kreese shouldn't have permission to take them on a field trip.
They're going to Coyote Creek. Ummm so I've been mapping how far these places they're going are. And I think this is the first, Kreese I hope you got permission slips from tehse kids parents because this is the winner for distance outside of wherever Robby was taken. Coyote Creek is apparently near San Jose and thus nearly 5 and 1/2 hour drive away.
Johnny: I'm not sure they're ready for that.

Kreese put Johnny in a rough spot there. Told the kids they were going to go do something, got them all excited, but then when Johnny came back made it seem like it was his decision, but of course it'd disappoint all the kids if they don't go. It makes it seem like Johnny's still in charge but instead he's being pressured into doing something he didn't plan to do right after the death of a friend and when he's less likely to fight.
This is my favorite. Demetri and Sam annoying sibling behavior. Which is hilarious because they're not truly that close other than being the og 3 miyagi-do, and even then Demetri's still arguably new.
I think I'm always focused on Demtri's actions that I always missed that she wipes her shoulder off back on his shirt.

What's interesting is he says he decided to flip the script Hawk style, but he wasn't there for the speech Johnny gave while Eli was there, and there's know way Kreese repeated it. Kreese could care less.
Okay the student I was looking for and couldn't find was one of the red-headed kids. I remembered each dojo got one.

We're being shown what happened while Johnny was out. Tory and Miguel cat and mouse it with the other student from the other team and are reveling in it, not to mention Tory kicks him and sends him spinning after she's already gotten the head band.
This was probably smart for Kreese. Because the kids are out in the woods without Johnny able to see what they're doing, so he hasn't clocked that his some mercy progress got yanked back into Kreese's no mercy, destroy your enemies and finish it mindset. Instead he's lured into a sense of still in charge and that everything is the way he left it when it's like his office, not how he left it.
Except of course Johnny did witness it. Which is probably horrifying to have realized that if he hadn't witnessed it and just hung out with Kreese he wouldn't have known and that Kreese has relit the fire he'd been trying to put out.
Daniel and Miyagi do swapped from hot training to Kangeiko. Which again, this might not be the smartest. He should've had water and stuff for the kids when out in that heat and in the freezer... some safety precautions I hope are also being taken. Also who does he know that is like oh hey sure Daniel if you want to be in our freezer with a bunch of teens to teach karate sure thing, we're not worried about our meat/food.
Hanging up on Anoush was not good. Ah, their lunch to apologize and help Anoush stay is sandwiches and sides. i was expecting Amanda to spring for something a bit more interesting, but I guess she was expecting to make that choice with Daniel and he forgot.
Hawk drops out of a tree, but it legit looks like he drops from the sky lol.

Amanda has called 5 times. Daniel, this was super important. Like surely you could've scheduled teaching these kids at specific times that didn't conflict with all your other responsibilities.
You would also think that it would be one of the bonus's of eventually merging dojo's. If Johnny works with Daniel, well teaching karate is his full time job, which would theoretically let Daniel return work for most training and allow him to do night or weekend training with Johnny. You'd think that if Daniel mentioned to Amanda they'd merge dojo's she'd be thrilled for that exact reason.
It's also funny because the cobras being out in nature is very Miyagi-do and the Miyagi-do's learning to fight in a meat locker is very Cobra Kai (or at least very Johnny)
Johnny returning to base camp to tell all his kids that they did well and comfort them during their losses. I can't. It's too sweet. He's trying to soften whatever Kreese has been up to.

I do appreciate that despite all of Kreese's work to try and mold them into his version of Cobra Kai while Johnny was out that Miguel still holds fast that trashing Miyagi-do and stealing the medal of honor was not cool.
Eli thinking it's about Sam is really telling of where his mindset is. Like he's fully in John Kreese's version of Cobra Kai. If only Johnny had caught it. Like he was able to catch Miguel and I think to an extent Aisha, but a lot of the other students his attentions kind of split on. And when you have that many students you're not going to catch it. But it would've been nice if he had, and had a heart to heart with Eli.
What I'm learning is I really like Miguel's jackets/hoodies.
They are so pissed at each other and taking that no mercy stuff to the extreme.
The wince when Miguel goes straight into the tree with his back, it's like a preview of what's to come.
This was supposed to be fun. Look what you've done to them Kreese. Johnny's going to be so upset.
I feel like this put a rift in their friendship, which sucks for Hawk because he's already taken an axe to his oldest friendship with Demetri and it knocked Moon out of his life too. He's like on a speedrun to ruining his life in a way Johnny knows super well and you'd think he'd be great at talking about it with him but only Miguel gets one on ones.
Though the finish him with the kick to the face and the way Johnny rushes forward but realizes he's too far away and too late...

Miguel looks like he rushed there. Which again, if Coyote creek is like nearly 6 hours away and he got to the LaRusso's house faster than Daniel got to North Hollywood from wherever he was training...what were you doing Daniel?
It's good on Miguel to return the medal of honor, but did he tell Johnny? Or does Johnny just think that's on his list of screw ups with Daniel? Like somewhere one of his kids stole the medal of honor and he still hasn't found it?
Robby makes a decision here....a pretty intense one.
That's an interesting lighter, you flip open the lid and then still have to click it (safety) and then Kreese spins it around the cigar a few times before holding it the traditional way.
He looks to comfortable in Johnny's chair and office. He made himself right at home.
This is like one of the times where Johnny digs his heels in and stands up for the kids and his plans for teaching them. And he communicates it all rather well. He's speaking softly, he's not yelling or mad, he's just like what you've been teaching this isn't something that works.
"There's a difference between no mercy and honor"
He still wants cobra kai to be badass, but he wants honor to be a part of it. Which feels like a very chozen thing.
Johnny was truly hoping to get through that whole conversation without Kreese pulling war into it. He acts like he's heard it a thousand times, which he probably has.

Kreese claiming Johnny's his responsibility is just wild. You haven't seen the guy in 30 or so years.
I am proud of Johnny for catching himself, he realizes he's getting sucked into arguing with Kreese, into a fight and then realizes he doesn't have to fight him, doesn't want to, and can instead just kick him out.
If only it had worked. Kreese also left his photo on the wall, should've sent that out with him.

On Eureka Moments
There is one tiny, tiny plus-side to insomnia: the epiphanies you get when you finally manage to catch a few winks.
So, I finish my shift, clock out, term out of my Linux resources and crash into bed before supper gets going. Sarah's not tired enough to join in, but Walt is definitely leaning on his concern for me and joins in. We spoon in the way I like and soon enough, even though it takes me a while, I'm gone. Poof.
It's not long, mind you - an hour and some change before we have to cook dinner - but it's enough to strip me of that sense of distance I mentioned, earlier. Dots start to connect, and what's really fucking weird for me is that I don't so much start dreaming as I'd say I sandboxed while asleep.
It felt a little like waking up without actually waking up. I was in the same posture I'd fallen asleep in, locked in thanks to Walt's body weight and aware of the fact that I was actually in REM sleep, but the room had this hyper-vivid texture that it only gets when my brain goes hog-wild at the end of an insomnia episode. I couldn't make out anything out of the noises coming from the living room, as speech and sound were as distorted as they usually are in my dreams. What still made sense, however, were my own thoughts.
This is a longboi, folks. Clicky if you dare.
I started going over the root causes of my insomnia, starting with the fact that I had to play IT Goon for six small dealerships staffed with reticent, tech-adverse fuddy duddies and dudebros who really just wanted something to run their CRM resources and the occasional instance of Google Chrome. I have to field everything from keyboards no longer working to printers going on the fritz to login credentials with big dealerships' own Finance portals no longer being valid - all of it while keeping an eye on our Linux-using Call Centre employees, listening in on calls, taking briefs from our Marketing department (basically one gal plus Walt) and occasionally physically schlepping campaign material - albeit with some help - because most manufacturers are a bit averse to the idea of dealerships passing resources around externally.
Simplified, that gives me two large task groups:
Network Admin
The Nuclear Football, as I call my laptop that's intermittently crammed with marketing-level campaign plans that dealerships treat like they're handing us a hydrogen bomb. That mostly involves carrying it to the dealerships involved, giving it network access, transferring the relevant files and walking the staff through their resources.
I only really administer the Call Center stuff, and anything Network Admin might be involved, it doesn't drive me as stir-crazy as reassuring a bunch of Boomers and non-tech-savvy Millennials that we do, indeed, have their parent company's provided resources on-hand.
That part, and everything related to their fucking PC installs, I could do remotely - either with Microsoft Azure or Windows Server Edition 20XX.
I'm sleeping on three of my most important certifications because the people I work for are too risk-averse to realize we could just drop everything on a remote server and walk them through everything with a video call or two. Everything short of physical hardware failure, I can handle or control using a Windows Server hub and the most wonderful tool known to man, which is known as the Fucking Group Policy Editor. Pair that with a few hires we keep in-house at each dealership, and I could set things up so I never need to leave my home office ever again.
Ever. Again.
No scheduling conflicts, no waffling about because my Paratransport ride is late, no depending on Walt or Sarah when the short bus isn't convenient or fast enough.
There's just one hitch - money. I can set up a would-be master server and rope every single of our dealerships and every single of their PC installs under a single server's wing within a week or two, give or take a few days for unplanned events. Even simpler, I could do the same with Azure. Option 1 requires a wee bit more cash on the Infrastructure part but could mostly be one-and-done if we're willing to be smart about it, Option 2 requires tossing money at Microsoft on a monthly basis, at no extra power cost or space management worries for us.
Then, there's the unavoidable warts and blemishes. I'd need to image everyone's workstations across our dealerships, format their entire fleet and then rebuild everything using these images and WSE's Deployment Tools. I can't do this on weekdays, these guys have promos to run - and there's weekends where I can't do it either. Our Mercedes joint is expecting visitors by Canada Day, for instance. It's time-consuming, I'd need to plan it out with them and any time I spend setting up someone's server-based clone of their previous Windows install is time I can't spend doing anything else.
Ergo, that needs to happen during a massive holiday. The only one that fits the bill is Christmas.
Then, there's the fact that I need some leeway now. I need to go back to a decent sleep schedule starting yesterday. I can't just hold on, grit my teeth and expect to hold on for six months of this; I'll keel over before Halloween if nothing changes.
But, the fun thing with luxury dealerships is that they tend to give themselves off-weeks when sales ramp down seasonally. That includes mid-July.
I wake up with a start and, barely lucid, ring up our Mercedes and Audi clients. Confirmed: they're aiming for a ramp-down of their operations in mid-July. I briefly expose my plans, set up a Web meeting, and spend the last twenty minutes of what should've been my nap explaining to two befuddled Sales Directors that I'm about to propose gaining complete control over their infrastructure, with the included benefit of a drag-and-drop common directory where I'd simply organize promo materials as we obtain them. I could even use it to deliver patches that come to us in binaries, as a few do apply. Their on-site guys could handle printer clogs or dying USB ports, I'd take care of and automate most of everything that's software-based.
And, what I didn't tell them, is that I'd even be able to finally restrict Sales reps from unnecessary account privileges, which could make the occasional case of disciplinary action even more occasional. You can't loaf around at work watching PornHub on the job if there's a rule in place that specifically includes it in a list of banned addresses and IP ranges...
I know how it sounds - it's basic fucking barebones IT stuff, it's the fucking bedrock of Network Admin, maybe one or two rungs above CompTIA resources - but you'd be surprised at how many dealerships have exactly zero administration. They don't see the need; they're car guys with maybe one or two Web apps of choice, if any! As to why I didn't think of it earlier, it's mostly because it's not technically my job. Walt, Sarah and I distribute and manage promotional material and help dealerships to keep up with user retention and analytics. We do everything a Sales Director should do, except most Sales Directors are usually tied up with their local Karens complaining about the Service department's mechanics.
So what if we gave them an infrastructure? What if we air-gapped it, made it easily reproducible and deployable, and made it so working with us only means looking at a slightly different Windows login screen, before starting your workday?
If this works, we'll expand our services and solve most of my problems. Salesguy McGee's computer ain't worth shit? No prob, just clone his install, nuke the base, reinstall from the clone and spend a few minutes mothering it to make sure you haven't imported previously-observed bugs.
I mentioned Azure, but I know our guys won't want to contribute to a cloud budget. Again, they're tech-averse and think using the cloud means you're at the mercy of a Redmond or Seattle-based server outage. Psychologically, they'll want the comfort of their own spinning rust and SSDs. If I've got that WSE server I mentioned, it's no skin off my teeth.
So, while Walt was trying to follow along, I tried for my most diplomatic cough imaginable.
"I'd, uh, need another 20K for our IT budget. Six of 'em would go for a WSL license, the rest would go for maybe two extra 2U units over at the office."
I thought Walt would protest, but he just gave me a level look. "Will that help you sleep?"
I shrugged. "At the end of a somewhat lengthy process, sure. Relief's going to count for something, though, and I'm pretty much guaranteed to sleep like a baby tonight if you approve."
Boss Walt reacted first, by giving me a shoulder clasp. "Purchase approved. You've got our card, make it happen starting Monday."
Then followed Boyfriend Walt, who pulled me into a hug. "You're going to have to walk me through this, though - this is black magic to me."
Sarah, who'd caught wind of my WSE for Dummies talk, stopped by before heading into the kitchen. "He means he wants to be Emperor Palpatine, hon," she joked. "Ultimate power, Force lightning, no idiots being so much as able to install unsigned software on their machines, lockable USB ports - the works. You're the only one who'd need to keep visiting our guys in-person. The real challenge is going to involve letting a bunch of unaffiliated dealerships share the same basic server architecture, and even that's not too complicated."
I parted with a frayed, and possibly half-mad little laugh. "Holy shit, I'm gonna sleep tonight!"
Sometimes, one of the perks of insomnia is being able to take a few steps away from your professional bugbears and your clients' weirdo and inefficient methodology - and remembering the skillsets you actually paid for.

His father was the head of a family owned dealership called The Coast, a throwback to the coast of Mexico where he was born. Alejandro has been head of this organization since his father’s passing. The Coast is a hot commodity in Night City offering the hottest and most sought after luxury vehicles for top buyers. Along with affordable vehicles for everyday people thriving in Night City. They also have a trade in exports/imports with overseas partners. Some of those cars are not exactly legal and the obvious underground market is a thing that he dabbles in the form of marketable street racing. Beneath the reputable business is the underlying criminality of Alejandro Silva’s name and reputation. A man who is seen as not someone to cross in this city. However he is an asset to have on your side if nothing else IF you can manage it. A suave criminal king pin with a penchant for being level head under pressure, Alejandro has a code he stands by. The regular people of the city are those he wants his organization to leave alone. The same cannot be said of his enemies.

Alejandro’s family roots go back to Mexico, of course where his father first branded his idea for The Coast. His family came to America and that is where his ideas took off. Today his father is unfortunately deceased, having suffered a heart attack when Alejandro was around 19 years old. His mother is still alive but not living in Night City. Family is a big deal for him but he has no children currently. He did take a young Ava Mendoza ( @ixonmaiden ) under his wing and has become an older brother to her over the years. His families connections with hers run deep, especially following the murder of her father Henry Mendoza.
Relationships may be a bit complicated. The man has been married twice. His first wife separated from him once she discovered his criminal activity. She realized The Coast was a front and not only filed for divorce but a restraining order against him. This definitely became a tumultuous divorce proceeding. He felt betrayed and that hurt him quite a lot. Currently he is married to a younger woman, a model for Glam Shell, Giselle Steele. However this is a canon that can be overlooked for potential shipping. Yet that will be selective and plotted if so. He is not closed to shipping though.
