Now that the cast of Horror Survivor is revealed I've paused the episode to record my predictions for the season - Edward Cullen is going to dominate this game & they did NOT think him through. He can also read everyone's minds 😭 I'm cheering for Grace and Josef but I'm sure Josef will get the boot early for being weird. Big thanks to Chelsea for indulging my Toxic Women adoration with Sue and Annie Wilkes specifically, i think theyll both do well. My pick for First Boot is either Mr Reed or Mrs Carmory because they're insufferable & their team isn't as strong as the others imo

I just finished reading I'm Thinking of Ending Things.

I was so influenced by the Dead Meat podcast on it after seeing the movie and not understanding anything about it.

Chelsea's explanation was so in depth and so moving and she has such an enormous understanding of everything about it. I was so impressed with her. A lot of times I feel that there is just too much Gap in our age and sometimes I can't relate to some of the stuff they talk about. I saw an episode where they said they started watching wrestling fairly recently. James was so knowledgeable on it that I really thought he had been watching since he was a kid. I've been watching wrestling since 1985. Jesus I think I'm old enough to be his grandmother probably. LOL. So because of that age difference there's some things that we are so far apart on as far as our experiences.

Anyway back to I'm Thinking of Ending Things

Once I saw that podcast, I knew I had to read the book.

Going back to see the movie was amazing once I really knew what it was about. But the book was on another level as well.

I just finished it, and holy s***. It is not for the faint of heart.

It is crushing.

See the movie first, in my opinion. Then read the book. And then, if you still can not understand what it's going 6 look up the dead meat presents podcast on it.

I can't wait till Dead Meat can discuss Saw X. I can't wait for the Kill Count episode. Wish they could have done a podcast ep on it like other horror releases, this October sucks with not getting James and Chelsea's responses on them, but also, fuck the studios for causing a strike to be needed. That's what really sucks. If they had just agreeded then we wouldn't be in the situation we are in, although I do love the branching out of content on Dead Meat.

AHH OMG thank you for sending this ask because I've wanted an excuse to ramble about horror survivor hahaha. I'm so excited about it!! I didn't catch the livestream yesterday cause I got busy (usually listen to it at work) so thank you for the update, thats amazing news! Oh man, this is going to be the best one yet 🤭

I haven't re-listened to the others in a hot second but if memory serves, I don't think(?) we've had Jason Vorhees on the island yet? I remember we've had Momma Vorhees but not Jason himself. so I'm holding out hope he gets involved in at least one. We've had Michael Myers, Freddy, and Leatherface, so it's only fair! If Jason's already made an appearance that's my bad haha, my memory can be shite sometimes 😭 I remember they had the dad from Get Out but can't recall if my favorite boy has been involved yet lmao, this brain

As far as predictions hmmm. Chelsea loves to throw in really random characters from current relevant movies. Considering the Royal Rumble lineup (& that they dont repeat a ton?), I think Demi Moore's character in The Substance will be included, as well as someone from the Nosferatu cast (my money is on Willem Dafoe's character). Has Sienna Shaw from Terrifier been in it yet? & I'm always going to want Amanda Young back for another go at the throne, but I'll honestly take anybody from the Saw franchise- maybe they can toss us a bone and bring in Adam if they have room in the cast for some oldies...Lynn Denlon would also be a fun random pick. I also bet the main guy from Trap is going to be there because of course he will be. My ultimate fan pick for a horror survivor character is Kurt Russel's main man from The Thing, I think he'd be a powerhouse!! But that's a relatively niche choice lol so who knows 🤷‍♀️I suppose I hope there are a lot of characters who end up being fun & balanced! & no worries there because they get better at this every round 💥

I just hope there's some chaos. Art the Clown finding an immunity idol lives in my brain rent free I almost crashed my car when I heard it the first time, absolutely legendary.

an important fact about me is that I do not care how many times i've seen or watched it, i will always rewatch/relisten to a research episode of the Dead Meat Podcast

i love listening to James and Chelsea discuss important horror films in history and the concept of moral panic and horror following each other

i love listening to them discuss things like the old IBG trope and transgender representation in horror with guests that know more than they do (Joey Clift and Joan Ford, respectfully)

they mean so much to me

While listening to the Dead Meat podcast on Skinamarink, Chelsea talks about being a nostalgic millenial, holding onto toys and other childish things into adulthood. It got me thinking about the claim that we are a nostalgia obsessed society/generation.

I think millenials were the first generation to have most of our childhood turned into consumer products. So many stories for children are made with merchandising as the main goal.

Kids have had toys forever, that's how they learn to tell their own stories, by playing, by using our imagination.

Our generation had a paywall put up around our childhood. Sure, you can use your creativity and imagination to make up your own stories based on the cartoons you watched, but wouldn't it be better if you bought the Officially licensed toys?

And storytelling is how humans bond with each other. By telling kids to only play with the official toys, it excludes the kids who can't get those toys, making those toys into status symbols.

So we have a childhood where our toys have become essential to our creativity and our status. Is it unsurprising when we don't want to give them up into adulthood?

Plus with a primed consumer market, why would companies want to stop selling us these products after childhood. It would be throwing away a safe bet, and as we have seen with all the nostalgic media that gets churned out, if media companies don't have to take risks, they won't.

This isn't to shit on people who enjoy collecting Ninja Turtles stuff, or fandom in general. It's to say that equating our consumer habits to nostalgia alone misses that our childhood was manipulated by corporations to sell us stuff and it continues to manipulate us through those links to our childhood for as long as they can keep getting our money.
