Young Justice as a conversation i had with my roommates (and our friends who are always in our dorm) while we were watching dead poets:
cassie: god, i want that to be me
tim: oh to be a teenage boy in the 50s sent to boarding school and sneaking out to read poetry
kon: honestly peak gender envy
cassie: REAL
tim: are we all bonding over wanting to be men in the 50s
cassie and kon: yeah
cissie: NO??

Good Omens headcanon:
Aziraphale loves the film "Dead Poets Society".
We know from the Shakespeare scene in s1 ep3 that he likes tragedies just as much as any other well written story, so even though he's the more sunny one of the duo, that wouldn't stop him from liking it. Also the movie features a work of Shakespeare and he'd love that as well.
Aziraphale - being the bibliophile he is - loves poetry thus that aspect of the film really draws him in.
Also Aziraphale's aesthetic is very much vintage and light academia which fits in very well with the dark/light academia vibes of the film that's set in the 50s.
The movie is very gay (just like him), not only because of the character's that everyone says are gay (because they are) but also because of the subtext.
The parallels between the oppression of heaven and the oppression of the students by school and their parents are hitting close home with Aziraphale and that makes watching the film very cathartic, even though he's oblivious regarding that.

I can't not make a Clone High au
Tumblr media
Marinette: Clone of a peasant turned royal tailor from ancient China who created fabulous garments for royalty and received praise for her work until her untimely demise when the jealous wife of the emperor poisoned her food
Adrien: Clone of a former beloved Parisian mayor from the 70s who won the hearts of all with his charisma, good looks, and natural charm… Then he got assassinated after he signed a bill to allow gay couples to adopt
Nino: Clone of a famous Moroccan director who gained recognition from his first short film which he shot in his home town. He made a name for himself, traveled, and won many awards, but then died in the 70s after someone drugged him… Because it was the 70s
Alya: Clone of a young runaway slave from Martinique in the late 1790s. She taught herself to read and wrote several books detailing the effects of Code Noir on her home. She was soon found and killed just five years before slavery was abolished. Her books were published decades later and shed some light on Martinique’s struggle
Nathaniel: Clone of a Jewish man from the 1930s who escaped the concentration camp when he was twenty and went into hiding, boarded a ship, and made it to America. He made his living as an artist, and was free to express his religion and tell his story when the war ended up until he turned 68, and died of a heart attack
Alix: Clone of a pro skater. Being female and Arab made her the target of a few choice words from competitors and spectators, but she rubbed her wins in their faces until her tragic “accident” at one event in 1978. Some jackass tampered with her wheels, and Alix landed in a horrible way. Fortunately, the asshole was arrested
Kim: Clone of a champion Olympic swimmer from the 50s. He took home gold twice and was ready to win his third gold medal. Right as he got in the water, shots rang out. A bullet hit his leg, and he sank to the bottom of the pool. (A jealous competitor resorted to drastic measures)
Max: Clone of a teenage genius from the early 70s. People thought he’d change the world with his brilliant mind. He even won a Nobel prize. The world probably would have been improved had it not been for the tragic lab fire
Juleka: Clone of a Romanian noble from the 1600s accused of kidnapping and draining young women of their blood to retain her youth. One night, the villagers stormed her manor and set fire to everything, even going so far as to lock her inside
Rose: Clone of a celebrated singer from the early 50s known for her pink rockabilly style. She died in her sleep when she was 83, and by that time, she had written over sixty songs
Ivan: Clone of a famed poet/song writer. He lived a pretty peaceful life, never got in any fights, attended protests organized by marginalized groups, and even wrote a book. He died peacefully in his sleep when he was 100
Mylène: Clone of an well known actress/activist who was protesting companies dumping lead into urban neighborhoods. Her words got their attention, but instead of being decent human beings, they poisoned her as a threat, but ended up killing her in 1978. To this day, those ass-bitches got away with it
Sabrina: Clone of a secretary from the 50s who had just about enough of her male colleagues treating her like less than the gum on the bottom of their shoes. She got up in the dead of night to paint their cars pink, filled their cars with women’s undergarments, and spiked their coffee with vodka. The cop was gonna let her off easy, but she demanded to be arrested… She shouldn’t have said that, because on their way to the prison, the cop car got t-boned bad
Chloé: Clone of a young aristocratic woman who was accused of killing her parents in cold blood in the 1800s. While she was acquitted of the charges, people still believed her to be a murderer, and she lived with that title all the way to her death
Lila: Clone of a scorned Italian woman from the late 1800s who sold out her village to a mob boss to live a life of luxury… And she did for about five weeks before one man from her village sought revenge for what the mob did to his family and shot many, including her
(Next Gen Clones)
Marc: Clone of a French writer and playwright from the 1800s whose stories mainly consisted of queer protagonists… Then he got arrested because being gay gets you in trouble in Europe during those times. He lived to be 102, and made out with so many guys in secret
Denise: Clone of a young enby from the 1960s who was part of Operation Pedro Pan to help Cuban youths escape from Castro’s regime when they were seventeen. They made it to America, faced some bigots, wrote two books detailing their life from Cuba to America, and advocated for the rights of Cuban citizens until they got sick and died in 1999
Simon: Clone of an Irish Catholic from the 1600s who hid with his family during Oliver Cromwell’s invasion and attack on the Catholics. They were going to escape together as a family, but his asshole parents left him to be killed at the hands of Cromwell himself. Prior to that, he wrote in a journal explaining the unfair treatment toward the Irish in great detail and it was soon published upon discovery
Ismael: Clone of a famed escape artist from the early 1900s. He performed all sorts of death-defying tricks until he performed one he didn’t survive- The escape from the water-filled tank trip… He forgot to hide the key on his person
Reshma: Clone of an Indian-American woman who lived a well off and made a name for herself as a fashion mogul. She used her influence to speak out against injustice against queer people and bring attention to current events in India. She died in her sleep when she was 70 in 1992
Jean: Clone of a beloved actor from the 1800s, most known for his “satirical” roles as women when really, he just likes wearing dresses, but they don’t gotta know that. However, someone found him making out with another man and killed him in his dressing room
Lacey: Clone of a famed spelunker. She has several museum wings named after her due to her discoveries, and became moderately wealthy. She continued exploring caves until her 50s when she slipped and fell into a crevice in 1978. The only thing that remained of her was a video camera with her final words
Aurore: Clone of an investigative journalist from the early 1900s reporting the abuse of conversion therapy victims. She was set to publish her story and expose the people behind the practice until she was photographed kissing a woman and dragged to a facility. Fortunately, one of her most trusted associates published her story and she was freed due to public backlash and threats against the facility. She died when she was 79
Mireille: Clone of a boxer from the 1920s who won many competitions, stole the hearts of a few women, and was on her way to greatness until a party got just a little too crazy, and she “fell” of the balcony after an encounter with an ex
Cosette: Clone of a Civil Rights activist from the 1950s who has been arrested several times for protesting. They publicly spoke out against the blatant racism in the country, and because of this, they were a person of interest for the government. She would’ve exposed the cameras and microphones she found in her home, but got into an “accident”
Zoé: Clone of a New York heiress from the early 1900s who ran off to join a rebel group that provided resources for the poor… By stealing from the rich. She hasn’t been caught once and eventually eloped with a woman five years before her death in 1997
Clone High is in Paris, secretly being run as an elaborate military experiment orchestrated by a government office called the Secret Board of Shadowy Figures
In 2003, the school is entirely populated by the clones of famous historical figures that were created and raised with the intent of having their various strengths and abilities harnessed by the military for a project called, Operation: Mighty Eagle. And one day, they will have them take over the world
One night, during a dance where everyone was in attendance, the teachers flash froze the clones to keep them out of the board’s evil hands, and the board eventually forgot about them
In secret, but they made new clones in 2007, and raised them during the twenty years that they were frozen, making the clones all roughly the same age after the Gen1 clones were unfrozen to resume Operation: Mighty Eagle
Due to being frozen for twenty years, the G1 clones are so far behind, have missed many important events, and have to learn what they can’t say that was okay in the 90s, but wrong to say now
Chloé is very put off when she realizes she’s no longer popular by today’s standards and instead, Nathaniel, Max, and Juleka are
Mme. Bustier: So, how’d the kids take it when you told them they’ve been frozen for twenty years?
Mme. Mendeleiv: Oh, I think they handled it very well.
*Earlier*
Mme. Mendeleiv: For anyone who thinks it is 2003… You are wrong!
Clone Kids: … *Freaking out*
Nino: *Holding up a cellphone* WHAT IS THIS?! *Points to a laptop* WHAT IS THAT?! *Points to Kim’s sneakers* WHAT ARE THOOOOOSE?!
Mme. Mendeleiv: It’s not 2015.
Marinette: This isn’t real! I’m dreaming!
Alya: The world is so warm!
Adrien: Guys! Guys!… Blockbuster is gone!
Rose: NOOOOO!!
Chloé: WHERE IS DESTINY’S CHILD?!
Max: There was a brother in office?!
Nathaniel: I CAN’T HANDLE THESE SUDDEN CHANGES!
*Later*
Mme. Mendeleiv: … Yeah. They’re fine.
M. Damocles: Here to help get you all acquainted with the future is the most popular clone and the the most conventionally attractive by today’s standards in the school.
Chloé: Finally!
M. Damocles: Chloé… Please move out of the way so everyone can see Marc Anciel, your class president!
Marc:
Tumblr media
Chloé: Who?!
Marinette: He’s what?!
Kim: He’s a guy?
Nathaniel: I don’t care what he is, but I am smitten!
Alya: *Holding up a cell phone* Okay, and this is a…
Aurore: Cell phone.
Alya: How is it different from my telephone?
Aurore: For one, it’s lighter, and you can take pictures of yourself.
Alya: … No… Way!
Adrien: You know who's gonna get canceled? Kim. You should have heard him back in the day. That guy's always saying stupid things.
Kim: I like men and woman of any shape or size!
Aurore: Wow, a bi Himbo.
Kim: *Laughs* No, I’m not a biathlete.
Jean: Refreshing honesty.
Mireille: So uninhibited.
Ivan: How can you stay so calm when the world is so warm, animals are dying, children are dying, everyone is dying, and so many wars are happening now?! You see it all on your weird telephone!
Cosette: Eh, I just channel all my anxiety into something meaningful. Like traumatizing white parents with lessons on how removing critical race theory from history books will mess their kids up.
Nino: Ismael, what gives you the confidence to be so good at skateboarding, and magic, and chilling?
Ismael: I don't know, Nino. Guess it's just hard work and practice.
Nino: Hard work and practice? Sounds like a fool's errand; You're stupid, Ismael. We tried practicing, but we failed.
Isnael: Did y'all try practicing a second time?
Nino: Oh, let me guess. "'Cause practice makes perfect."
Ismael: No. There's no such thing as perfect. Practice makes progress.
Nino: That's a dumb saying. You're dumb. This is dumb. Everything's dumb. But, okay, we'll try.

Got tagged by several lovely people because no one knew I’d already been tagged. Because it took me several hours to copy/paste WIP titles/first sentences into a document lolol. Super happy to finally make it happen though @orbitalpirate @kvetchinglyneurotic and @jamietarttdodododododo !
Game: put the titles of your WIPs, reguardless of how vague or uninformative they are and let people send asks about them. Tag some people, maybe the amount of WIPs you have.
A) I’m big in Ted Lasso so I’m only posting the 120 for this fandom. If someone wants the list of 50 for Dirk Gently or 2 dozen for My Hero Academia; just holler at me!

10 films I love (not showing pictures lol)
tagged by my angie again @smythecriminal ilysm and you should know it.
ok this will definitely be long cuz i love talking about myself so after this break!
i. dead poets society (1989)
i think many of you have seen my obsession with this film oh my god it truly went through my heart and still does every time i rewatch it
ii. relatos salvajes / wild tales (2014)
i rewatch it every chance i have. there's something about watching humanity lose their mind over maybe mundane things, it's so weirdly entertaining. every story is written so beautifully, i can’t believe it didn't win an oscar
iii. velvet goldmine (1999)
i’m amazed not many people have seen this film, that's a whole crime. you got gay ewan mcgregor and gay christian bale, what else do you need? it's glam and it's fun to watch and i can go on but i already said what needed to be said
iv. esperando la carroza (1985)
one of the few films i can rewatch a thousand times and never get tired. i laugh every single time and i quote it at least once a day.
v. takers (2010)
it's a silly movie tbh but that makes it fun to rewatch. besides hayden christensen is hot as fuck and so is idris elba, the only problem is trigger warning chris brown but other than that it's such an enjoyable film
vi. hijo de la novia / son of a bride (2001)
i cried, i laughed, i sobbed, i enjoyed it so fucking much. i cannot rewatch it for the sake of my heart but please this movie is so perfectly done. it has a thousand life messages, they get to you the older you get.
vii. the budapest hotel (2014)
i’m sorry i really do enjoy wes anderson films. i’m obsessed with simmetry and he's the best at the cinematographic resource. besides, he does it so well, i’m surprised. it never feels forced and, adding to the palette he uses, it just has this feeling of comfortable and cozy, no matter the story.
viii. nueve reinas / nine queens (2000)
obsessed for real. well anything ricardo darin does but this one blew my mind. i just really enjoy watching films that completely distract me from the unimaginable ending. very well done, very easy to carry too.
iv. death becomes her (1992)
i've read that this film did not help meryl's career but i don’t understand how. i know she was doing many good dramatic movies with accents and strong scenes and this film was silly next to them, but it's so fun to watch. she's hilarious and so fucking beautiful oh my god and i had no idea bruce willis was this funny too!
v. el secreto de sus ojos / the secret in their eyes (2009)
had to leave this one for the end because i consider this film one of the few masterpieces i've seen on the big screen. i can’t even write down an opinion, it was outstanding. the ending still lives rent free in my head. deserved that oscar and many more.
little extra one just because: tacones lejanos / high heels (1991), i just love pedro almodovar's films so much

I love your writing. I love how vulnerable you allow the characters to be. I love how you make ugly things beautiful and pretty things holy and reverent. I am extremely thankful for you and all that you do.
But I'm curious:
Are there any writers/works that you would say have had an influence on your style?
crying and crying. honestly yes! ugliness is very beautiful to me it’s very human & vulnerable & good to be ugly & i think life tends to be very imperfect & messy but we can be very beautiful (and yes, holy) inside of it.
hmm so first thing is that i’m mostly a poet & i came to that in my usual way which was deciding one day to teach myself how to Poetry. i figured it could not be very different from math and lo & behold it was not very different from math
i grew up using recitation of poems as a calming technique so those certainly influenced how cadence occurs to me, patterns of language (some poems were as gaeilge). some of the poems i memorised growing up were Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen; Ode to a Nightingale by Keats; a whole bunch of Dickinson & especially Persimmons by Li Young Lee. the waste land by ts eliot too. i did adore shakespeare & how easy it was to commit to memory in iambic pentameter.
but then when i was 16 i decided to ‘git good’ at poetry (i was, in fact, very bad at it for many years to come) so i picked up Ariel by Plath & a load of Anne Sexton. Richard Siken too. and i read those books about 50 times each. could never read them too many times.
realised that poetry should be kind of like eating good food or having good sex. an experience that bears repeating.
so yes Sexton & Siken especially i think are explicitly influential to my style. also recently have learned a lot from Ocean Vuong (Night Sky With Exit Wounds but also please read ‘Not Even This’. listen to Ocean perform it) oh & also very recently impressed with Hull by Xan Phillips, & Danez Smith’s ‘don’t call us dead.’
language was made for puncturing & those poets know how to turn a sentence, a stanza, a turning of thought into a lung collapse, a harpoon.
i do firmly believe that it’s pointless to mimic style. it can happen that other words bleed into yours but it should be an accident, like the mirroring of language that forms the basis of so many interpersonal movements. language IS an exchange but we all bring something to the table.
& again it’s food - personal and cultural and loving and it’s about need and want and desire and death (food & death so tenderly intertwined in so many cultures). so i think reading good writing lends you instinct; the ability to look at what you make and know if it is good or at least true and therefore ‘getting there’ and therefore beautiful in the attempt regardless of imperfection.
i believe in purple prose and also Just Saying Things & i really think (i teach creative writing sometimes at uni) that i can bring out beautiful writing from anyone. it’s not always about skill it’s about heart, and then skill creeps up on you. i can always tell when someone is just performing writing and when someone has a story to tell.
so like!! the #1 thing that has influenced me is learning to love the way that writing makes me feel (powerful, stupid, profound, unoriginal, death-defying, mortal). i think reading so so much & just internalising different language-textures helps a bunch! i get so much inspiration from reading textbooks, wikipedia articles, random journals & i think poetry even if you are not & don’t wanna be a poet is very good at showing you the bones and sinews and connective tissue of meaning.
i am also so influenced by sci-fi & fantasy. particularly the Book of the Ancestor by Mark Lawrence (more gay nuns lmao) & N.K. Jemisin with The Broken Earth trilogy. 'the slow regard of silent things' specifically by Patrick Rothfuss (not a person to learn pacing from but astounding at sentence-level). also i am very influenced recently by This Is How You Lose The Time War. as a kid by Garth Nix (particularly Lirael, Sabriel) & artemis fowl.
of course on that note it’s usually the non-literature things that inspire actual writing from me. it’s principles in physics or math or thinking about Voyager 1 or philosophical questions that actually produce the sort of rabid pursuit of meaning that writing is. truly immersing in curiosity is an excellent way to approach making art. it's about reaching out & touching for a moment the fabric of everything - & you might find it is wet & sticky or dry and dusty or soft or that it hurts your hands to touch, but the chasing of meaning is worth it, & making meaning is divine.
i hope that is (somewhat) of an answer

another person was shot and is in the hospital, but their life isn't in danger

alright, so, on a personal note re:crab rave
earlier this year i was fact-checking a planner that had a page with "fun facts about canada" in it
one of the fun facts? queen Elizabeth ii is head of state
this was during the height of the "she's already dead" conspiracy theory
so i decided, quite reasonably, to suggest changing the sentence to "king or queen of england," juuust in case she dies before the new school year starts. i got shot down, of course, and at the end of the day, whatever. as always with my job, literally whatever. gets printed with lizzie's name in it
i forget about it
September 8th: crab day
September 13th: the new school year starts
i love being right

So where *is* Tassing, actually?
Obviously it’s nowhere. But actually, it’s also several specific places in a specific area.
As someone who lives and has lived in several parts of Oberbayern, I'm so tickled by placing Tassing on a map. While trying to find a region it would fit in with all the clues the game gives, I also found several monasteries that probably contributed to the way Kiersau was written and created.
Names
Tassing fits a common naming scheme in Oberbayern. Places with an -ing name in Austria and Altbayern (roughly congruent with the present-day administrative districts Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate) were founded in a specific time frame, the Baiuvarian Settling of the Alps. Up until the 7th century CE, the alpine landscape was inhabited by slavs, but from the 7th to 9th century, the Baiuvarii, a germanic group of people, moved into the area and ended up either displacing or integrating the slavic people into their own society. Examples of Baiuvarian -ing names in Upper Bavaria include Pasing (With the people of Paso/Paoso/Poso/Poaso), Menzing (With the people of Menzo) or Poing (With the people of Piuwo). Tassing might have been re-settled, founded or just be associated with a man named Tasso, and should be located somewhere in Altbayern.
Kiersau is a strange name to me and finding an etymologically-based interpretation, like for Tassing, is harder. (In general, trying to find etymologies for place names is often more educated guessing than anything else.) The Bavarian meaning of Au (or Aue) is a flat piece of land with meadows and forests located near a river (also: floodplain). The problematic part is Kiers. I'm choosing to put it down as Kirsche, cherry. Why? Well, cherry trees were brought across the Alps by Romans, and the Roman past of Kiersau and Tassing is important to the story. It might also just be a reference to Hirsau, a famous Benedictine monastery in the Black Forest.
None of the first or last names of the peasants, merchants or craftsmen in Tassing give any kind of hint as to where the place is located. Names like Bauer (farmer), Gertner (gardener) or Zimmermann (carpenter) are extremely common, and the more uncommon ones, like Alban, don't help narrowing it down either.
Area
We get one look at an Early Modern map of Europe, with a few mountain ranges, rivers, some of the most siginficant trade roads, and Tassing marked on it. We know that Tassing is part of the Prince-Bishopric of Freising in 1518 and borders directly on Tyrolia. We know it's in Bavaria, which I'm deciding to identify as the Bavarian territory of the Holy Roman Empire. I'm not getting into the true borders of Bavaria on my overly researched Pentiment post. We also learn that one of the Roman trade routes, possibly relateed to salt, was built to run past Tassing, and that Tassing is located somewhere in the province of Raetia. To identify and overlap all these areas, I have committed a horrible cartographic crime in Photoshop!
I have marked Raetia in yellow, the Roman roads in red, the Prince-Bishopric in brown and the Bavarian territory in blue. This first map shows these areas in a European context.
Tumblr media
This one is a closer shot of the whole possible location of Tassing. Now, you might have noticed a little red dot in the lower right, outside of any of the possible areas, right there in Eastern Tyrolia?

A couple Dead Poets Society head canons but make it gay because it’s pride month
• Charlie was the first person Todd came out to
Todd had just fully realized his feelings for Neil and he was having a panic attack because it’s the 50s and people are homophobic and he just realized he was in love with his best friend/roommate
Charlie was actually looking for Neil when he came across Todd having the panic attack. He sat with Todd and calmed him down and that was when Todd (hesitantly) came out to him. Charlie reassured him that everyone else in their friend group was also a little bit gay and that Neil also had feelings for him
• Meeks and Pitts share a bed
It started one night because there was a bad thunderstorm and Meeks got scared (Meeks is scared of storms and no one can convince me otherwise)
Meeks tried to ignore the storm but Pitts could tell he was freaked out. Pitts turned on his desk lamp and scooted over so Meeks could get in the bed with him
This started a trend and it got to the point where Meeks would immediately go to Pitts bed instead of starting in his
Meeks’ bed just has all of their stuff for their radio piled on it and it’s still set from their first day

OPHELIA AND NEIL PERRY. AN ANALYSIS
Ok, one (1) person asked me to do it, so here I am.
Neil Perry from Dead Poets Society and Ophelia from Hamlet, and why Neil is so Ophelia-coded
No one can convince me they didn’t use Ophelia’s character as inspiration for Neil, because I will not listen.
Both Ophelia and Neil were given two alternatives to live as.
Neil had possible future 1, and possible future 2. One where he followed his dad, the other where he followed Keating and his dreams. And meanwhile the second seemed like the best and obvious choice for us, for Neil it was quite different. Not only because he thought he had to do what his dad wanted. Than he was trapped. Than he truly had no choice. But because, also, Neil was gay.
Let’s remember one line from Keating, specifically. What is language’s purpose? Why does it exist? He asked Neil of all people. Well, he asked Todd first (also gay) and then Neil. He asked both gay guys in class. Neil answered “to communicate”. Keating told him than, no, it was created “to woo women”.
Neil had no access to either of those futures, at least, in his mind.
He couldn’t become the doctor and masculine man his dad wanted him to be without being completely miserable. And he couldn’t follow Keating’s path either, since he had no interest in wooing women.
Neil knew it was a joke, he even laughed. It was obvious for both the characters and the audience than it was a sentence we weren’t meant to take seriously, and I don’t think Neil took it seriously either. But still, hundreds of the poems they read at the cave were poems from men to women, or about women. All the poets they read and knew of (at least, on Neil’s mind) were straight. We know Walt Whitman wasn’t, and than he wasn’t the only queer poet out there, but it was the 50s. Just as we know now, it probably wasn’t something everyone knew. They didn’t teach those things at school, so there was a big chance Neil (or any of the poets) didn’t know about it.
So, if all the poets were supposedly straight, writing poems about the opposite gender, that was also a reality Neil had no access to.
Now, Ophelia.
Poor Ophelia, sweet Ophelia.
She had two choices. She could become two things.
She could be maiden and pure as everyone wanted her to be, or, as Hamlet told her (whether he meant it or not) she could get herself to a nunnery. She could be a whore as Hamlet told her.
She didn’t want to be either of those things. She wasn’t either of those things. She wasn’t as pure as they claimed she was, neither she was a whore.
Those were the two possible things she could be, the two options for her to be.
“To be, or not to be” those were Hamlet’s words, I know, but don’t they fit?
We have two common factors about their deaths (aside from the fact than they were caused by themselves). And that is, than something else lead up to them. Something caused them to do it. Some specific event. For Neil, it was his father telling him than he will take him out of Welton and send him to a militar school. For Ophelia, it was his father’s death. Ophelia had no mother, at least, than we know of. Her brother was away, and it was only her and her father. Unlike Neil, she had a good relationship with her father, so his death affected her, obviously.
Ophelia was a puppet on their hands, they told her to ignore her feelings for Hamlet than were reciprocated, they told her to be pure, to be maiden. Taking her life, she also took control of her life.
Just like Neil. He had no control over his life, he would do what his father wanted him to do, no fighting. By taking his own life, he took charge of his destiny.
As we know, neither of those factors were the only reason they killed themselves, it had been building up (after all, Ophelia did said so beforehand “Larded all with sweet flowers / Which bewept to the ground did not go / With true-love showers.” Hamlet and Laertes fighting over her grave)
Now, after they died.
I mentioned Hamlet and Lartes fighting on Ophelia’s grave, well, let’s return to that.
On Ophelia’s funeral, the Queen said “I hoped thou shouldst have been my Hamlet's wife; / I thought thy bride-bed to have deck'd, sweet maid, / And not have strew'd thy grave.” Once again, putting Ophelia in that pure, maiden box she did not fit in, neither she wanted to fit in.
You know what does that remind me? “If it wasn't for Mr. Keating, Neil would be cozying up in his room right now, studying his chemistry, and dreaming of being called doctor!” After Neil’s death, Cameron putting him on the same box than his dad tried so hard to make him fit on, and than took part on his death.
Todd is the only one who said something about it (because they were in love!)
“That is not true, Cameron! You know that! He didn't put us up to anything! And Neil loved acting!”
After, the whole Cameron and Charlie thing. Charlie punched Cameron, which got him spelled.
Who else fought after Ophelia’s / Neil’s death? Hamlet and Laertes.
Kind of for similar reasons. Laertes for vengeance, Hamlet because he thought he loved Ophelia more than Laertes did.
Or, Cameron telling Nolan as a way to protect himself and his friends (even if it was a horrible decision) and Charlie, punching Cameron out of anger, grief, and maybe, if looking too deep, also vengeance. Vengeance for Neil, because Cameron told everyone, because him telling everyone caused Keating being fired, even if he was the only adult in Neil’s life than helped him, even if the club was Neil’s idea.
When Ophelia’s death was announced, some said she accidentally drowned. They left the detail than she drowns herself (at least,in my copy. Mine is translated from English so it might be different idk). When Neil died, they blamed Keating. Letting out the whole mental manipulation from Mr Perry and Neil’s depression.

ferris buellers day off dead poets society and uhhhhh day and age (the album)
YESSSSS yess. thank you for this. i’m gonna try to start making these shorter because they have been. you know. #long post.
1. ferris buellers day off has been my capital F capital M Favorite Movie since i was like....11!! so good and so cool. one time i went on a road trip with my dad and watched it upwards of 50 times in the car. like it would end and i would be like “alright! time to start over!”. just insane person behavior. ANYWAY lol. there are a lot of moments/scenes that get passed around here a lot that rule so very much (a big one being cameron staring at the painting) but something small that i love & cherish is this dialogue from the sears tower:
sloane: the city looks so peaceful from up here. ferris: anything is peaceful from 1,353 feet. cameron: i think i see my dad.
and i don’t know why! but god i love it. it was my email signature in middle school. it just lays out all of their characters really neatly and also in a way that makes me tear up sometimes! also the parade scene. imagine one of those kermit memes with all the heart emojis. god. there’s this couple of seconds of danke schoen where ferris stretches his arm up into the air and kind of looks up at it -- transcendent. also the plot’s repeated reliance on fake phone calls & answering machines. also jeannie’s sock/shoe combo. so so so good. wadda picture!
2. dead poets society
god for all that i am a gay person on tumblr dot com i haven’t watched dead poets society since the day robin williams died. just looked that up and apparently i was 13. wow. does not feel that long ago! wow! wow. so what i have to offer here is maybe a little obvious, but. it IS the thing that happens toward the end of the movie. the big, sad thing. you know! i’m trying to keep it vague for the 3 people left on here who have still somehow never seen it. at the time it felt earthshaking, which makes even more sense now that i know i was 13 at the time. middle school sienna had never seen anything that devastating in a movie before!!! what a way to start. but, yeah. god. like 7 years on i am thinking about it now and i am hearing his voice in my head and i am really, really struggling to remember if i’ve seen a movie do anything so completely unfair since. but also it’s almost 1 am, and i’ve never seen atonement, so what do i know!!!!!! wow. haha !!!! thanks for sending this i like really want to rewatch it now. will probably do that soon thanks to u <33
3. day and age
im UHHHHH god this is hard. GOD this is hard. i associate day & age (& every other killers album) really strongly with summer camp, & if you'd asked me 5 years ago i probably would've said something from a dustland fairytale or spaceman, but i gave it a fresh listen on the way to work the other day and i was like ... LOOOVING joy ride. just having an awesome time speeding down the interstate. idk if it would stick out as much again on a relisten but it was cool to connect w something i had kind of passed over before!!! also always been a fan of that little synth bassline in this is your life. & also yes. the bridge in spaceman. still hits. & i mean HITS. perfect dip & buildup. awesome awesome awesome. thank u for this these were GREAT !!!!! choices :) <3333 sorry it took so long to finish lol
mutuals do this!!:)

stuff to watch/listen to/do at halloween !!
movies:
- jennifer’s body is comedic horror with megan fox and amanda seyfriend in which megan fox gets possessed and starts eating boys
- zombieland is also comedic horror. it’s gorier than the stuff i’m used to but funny in a kinda trashy way
- creature from the black lagoon is one of the earlier full length horror movies and it’s mostly funny now, but it holds up in a way
- what we do in the shadows is a taika waititi vampire mockumentary that is SO sweet
- if you can get your hands on zombi child or the vast of night pleaseeeee let me know, zombi child is a horror movie half about school girls and half about a slave in the early 1800s who dies and gets turned into a zombie slave. the vast of night is a beautifully shot sci-fi movie set in the 50s in southern america about the young man who runs the local radio station and a 16 year old girl who works at the call center and the ending BLEW my mind i literally lost it. it’s so good
- dead poets society is tragicccc but such a good autumn movie. it’s also a gay classic so like.. watch it
- movies i’ve heard are good but haven’t seen because i’m scared of them: hereditary, it & it 2, get out, us, rosemary’s baby, the exorcist, blair witch project, suspiria, the witch
tv:
- over the garden wall is a cartoon miniseries about a 15~ year old boy and his little brother who get thrown into some kind of alternate reality. it’s really cute and cozy, and has a beautifully bittersweet ending
- the buffy the vampire slayer halloween episodes are all really good, my favourite is s4e4, fear itself
- the brooklyn 99 halloween episodes are also really cute
- buzzfeed unsolved episodes are always rly good, my favourite is either the goatman one or vulture mine
- some murdoch mysteries episodes are really good, i think they have up to season 7 ish on netflix
podcasts & music:
- lore is about myths/stories/creepy true historical tales. my favourite episode is ep 47, it made my jaw DROP at the ending
- welcome to night vale is a surreal fiction podcast in the style of a radio show, you probably know it. it’s equal parts funny and eerie
- i haven’t listened to it makes a sound but i want to and it seems eerie !
- the over the garden wall soundtrack is so lovely and charming to listen to
- in the aeroplane over the sea by neutral milk hotel provides good autumn music for colder days
- i’m wide awake it’s morning by bright eyes is good for a slower chiller time
