Hey because I’ve been kinda sick the last few days take something I’ve been working on!! Omori x ddlc au woo!!! I tried to make this into an actual fan game last year but my renpy was not cooperating… I might try it again, but anyway…

Sunny and basil!!! The president and vice president respectively!!! Working on kel and Aubrey too!!

What I will say is that this au/fangame if I can get it working is very different to the source material in a lot of ways so… yay!

This isn’t a role swap either, there aren’t any binary “roles” or “personalities” the characters fit into because… they’re sunny, basil, kel and Aubrey, not the ddlc cast. They act different and have different personalities which would change the course of ddlc’s narrative a lot. However it I DID have to compare by most similarities in terms of narrative role it would be…

OMORI is a game that purports to preach the virtues of forgiving yourself for your mistakes, but upon closer examination, it becomes a game where a boy learns to prioritize his emotional well-being over that of his friends.

The creator, Omocat, and her team have been involved in various scandals over the years. One egregious example is the case of composer Pedro Silva, who came forth about abusing an ex-partner of his.

Apparently the development of the game was incredibly rushed; the team switched horses mid-stream by changing engines halfway through the project, which resulted in a 6-year-long development cycle.

Really, though, the bulk of OMORI was developed through insane crunch as the deadline approached; the animators were tasked with pumping out 25 animations in six months due to the mismanagement.

Omocat burned through $200K worth of Kickstarter money - we don't really know where that money went, since she made an RPGMaker game, not a triple-AAA title - and had to rely on merchandise sales to fund the rest of the game's development.

Omocat, at least to me, seems like a love and lighter who gives off red flags sometimes. She does not attribute OMORI's success to the hard work of her team, but rather, her pathological love of "spreadsheets."

The situation with one of her former employees, Melon Kid, is described here:

From what I've heard and from what Wood has told and shown me, she tends to mishandle the subject of suicide, treating it blithely. For instance, ending a talk she gave on a shot of the main character stabbing himself in the gut with a knife.

The keychain of Mari as her hanged corpse is brow-raising, given how hard the character is fridged in the original game. It'd be like if Dan Salvato sold DDLC keychains and the only one available of Sayori depicted her hanged corpse. To add salt to the wound, Mari is the only one of the main cast who isn't receiving a plushie because, according to Omocat, "she's dead."

OMORI shamelessly rips off of other, more superior RPGMaker games. Black Space, the game's dark dream world representing the main character's tormented subconscious, is just a Yume Nikki fangame. It plays, looks, and sounds functionally the same as a YN game. You could play a million better YN clones online for free, yet Omocat charges people money to play hers.

And yet, because OMORI is linear in structure, the Symbolism(tm) of various setpieces wind up seeming more like art salad. There are many scenes in there that serve no purpose, which only serves to waste the player's time. For instance, a scene occurs where the player is led to believe their only choice is to gut and dismember their pet cat. The fact that this is entirely optional makes it seem a gratuitous, if not cruel, design choice.

In addition, suicide is turned into little more than a travel mechanic a la Mario warp pipes. Sunny literally needs to make the choice to stab himself in order to progress multiple times, and there are no graver consequences to doing this other than "waking up" in the real world.

And this is especially weird considering there is an RPGMaker horror game that uses suicide in a similar fashion, called Blank Dream. When you commit suicide in each of the various realms, it erases that version of you from your memories so you can fulfill the MC's wish of having never existed. Not to mention that you get a game over if you choose to stab yourself with the knife.

The OMORI fandom is a whole other kettle of fish entirely, but people for some reason hail OMORI as yet another uber-deep piece of Peak Fiction(tm) in the vein of IDW Sonic. Folks have literally denigrated Silent Hill 2 in favor of OMORI blasphemy when Omocat quite literally said her mindset when writing the game was to "think as little as possible."

The writing is jumbled, rather like a first draft, and carries quite a few unfortunate implications as a result.

Your Boyfriend Fangame

Alright listen up folks:

I have an idea related to the Your Boyfriend game and our beloved Peter.

For context, recently I found out that the plot of Peter and MC ended up getting really toxic and terrible. Like into territory that just doesn’t seem as characteristic to the Peter we were introduced to in the beginning. I understand that’s the whole point, but I feel like it really could’ve gone better and we could’ve had a choice to fix things or whatever.

Then there’s the issue with Fuboo. I dunno what it is about creators of horror games/comics/etc being child groomers/predators, but it’s becoming too much of a theme nowadays. Y’all can correct me if this is wrong and provide evidence against the accusations. I still feel like my idea will really help bring the YB fandom back up again because goddammit I adore the characters.

Anyways here’s the idea:

We get introduced to the characters as usual like it is in the first chapter. However, rather than the story focusing on Peter, we get the choice to go into other characters as well, such as getting to know our roomie, Lucy, more or getting to hang out with TK. Maybe even cracking the hard exterior of Don.

What I’m saying is…

I want a dating sim.

It would be great! Think about it: we get the chance to romance Peter, our stalker, and maybe help him out in the end. However, we still get the chance to date the other characters if we wanted to if we make the right choices as the MC. Think about it:

Lucy, partygirl and nympho, is actually really shy and sweet when you get to know her more. She loves something nerdy or bookish, like LotR or Classic Novels.

TK becomes more than a best friend/coworker as you hang out more (I feel like he’d be a total hipster into arcade games and antiques ngl).

Don, our landlord daddy, ends up being a real sweetheart and we get to see him crack a smile or laugh if we say the right thing.

This could really work. Also, of course, MC has the choice of being referred to as she/her, he/him, they/them, etc. as well as whatever name they choose.

I’m kind of pulling my ideas from DDLC (Doki Dokie Lit. Club) and The Arcana, but I still feel like it would work.

The only thing we might have issues with is that Fuboo or whoever else created the game might use copyright rules or whatever because it’s be their original idea.

However, I feel like if this is just a fangame and, unfortunately, give credit to a child groomer, this would still work. The credit would just go to the character ideas and game, but the rest would be an original plot.

But Sage, what about the horror aspect of the game?

Well, we can still add that. Maybe Peter, when you date the others, can still be like Monika in DDLC where she kills off the other interests. He doesn’t actually do it but we could make sure we protect TK, Lucy, and/or Don. Peter’s route would just be us dealing with him directly.

Also, if we have good or bad endings, we could still have the horror aspect, like having murder or something.

I just really miss YB content and I hate to know that, once again, a creator couldn’t just be a decent human.

Why so serious. So anyway howdy my freaky fellows, today I'm gonna be doing 4-5 sentence (Probably more. Do I even know myself?) rants about games/series/franchises that have changed my life. You know this. You read the title. Obviously. Unless you didn't. Then you're stupid. Stupid dummy dum-dum.

[CLEARS THROAT AGGRESSIVELY]

So we're gonna start with a game that I stumbled upon accidentally and has made a huge mark on my life and honestly my personality as well.

DIALTOWN:

WOWZERS, THIS GAME WAS INCREDIBLE. I didn't even MEAN to find it, I was looking for DDLC and I searched 'dating sim' on steam and it popped up. I thought "fuck it, I'm buyin' it" and now here I am. I spent half of my summer staying up until morning just trying to get all of the endings and achievements, and holy shit was it worth it. That game made me laugh and sob and scream into my pillow all in the span of 5 minutes. Chapter three was incredible, the emotions you can convey without even seeing facial expressions is honestly so awesome to me. Norm is a HUGE comfort character for me. (I GOT HIM IN THE SOULMATE QUIZ‼️) I'm so excited for the DLC to come out, and hopefully I'll get the Mingus plushie and any more that get re-released or any new ones!

Next is another game (or game trilogy, I suppose) that I didn't really mean to come by. Luckily I have a stupid brother that introduces me to things I never thought I'd enjoy.

DAYSHIFT AT FREDDY'S:

Wow, would you look at that, another game series by the hound himself! Now, I didn't have a computer until about half a year ago. Got one for my birthday. I found out about this game LONG before Dialtown. So it took me a while to actually play the game. But I had seen fanart, playthroughs, analysis...es? And a lot more. I was obsessed with davesport for months before I even got to play the game. But when I finally did play it, I was SO excited, and for good reason. This game got me into FNaF fangames, and introduced me to my weird thing for phone men. The third game made me sob my eyes out the first time I played it through the good ending. Yet another example of a game that had me giggling one moment and bawling the next. WHY DO YOU WISH FOR ME TO SUFFER, DOGGO??/silly (ily man. keep doin the do.)

Up next is THE original.

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S:

Wow. Now THIS is a game that left a mark on me. Got me into indie horror. I first played the game with my brother when I was like 6 I think?? It scared the piss outta me then, but over the years I learned to love it. I damn sure made a lot of cringe fanart when I was like 10..... But hey, it was fun. I kinda miss those times, even if I was seen as extremely weird for it. Thanks for years of fun, Scott. Couldn't have made it through life in my household without you.

Up next is my ALL TIME FAVORITE SIDE-SCROLLER.

CUPHEAD:

I love this game SO much. I first watched my dad play it on his computer, and he let me make my own save file! I wasn't very good for a long time, and I'll be honest, I'm still not exactly a professional. But it's fun, and practice makes perfect, right? I always chose Mugman, while my brother chose Cuphead. We would pretend we were the characters, and it was one of the only times I ever used to bond with him. Thanks for bringing me and my goober brother closer together, Cuphead.

MINECRAFT:

This game at least deserves a sentence or two. It's still one of my favorite games to play when I need to relax. I love making worlds with my siblings and building silly stuff with them.

ANIMAL CROSSING:

I spent weeks on this game. Probably even months. Maybe even a year or two. I don't play it as much anymore, but I still like to visit my island and see how my little villagers are doin every once in a while. Still pissed that I could never find Raymond, though. I tried so many times to find that silly little cat. I still do every so often. I'll get you eventually, Raymond. Mark my words.....

Moving on from games now. Let's talk about TELEVISION!

GRAVITY FALLS:

Wow. Just wow. What is there to even say? I love this show so very much. It makes me cry every time without fail. The fandom has its bad sides, but overall I love being apart of it. The Stan twins are my beloved babies and I will never let them go.

RISE OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES:

Now THIS is a show that left a HUGE mark on me. Hell, I even changed my name to Donnie for almost a year... I don't like to think about this phase. But this show is amazing, it was the reason I'm friends with a lot of my friends to this day. It deserves to get a re-run, even more seasons. Top tier show, would recommend.

EDDSWORLD:

This show HEAVILY influenced my artstyle and a lot of my general humor. I've been obsessed with it off and on for a few years now, and it's a great show. It's silly and fun, and it's ALSO a reason I'm friends with a few of my best friends.

I'm in that period of time where my artstyle keeps changing but I haven't finished drawing the sprites (I redrew Emari's normal standing pose sprites already but It'll really annoy me if the artstyle is inconsistent).

DDLC fangame idea

I thought of this at 1 in the morning so if there's problems then it's because I thought of this instead of sleeping.

So you play as either Monika or the MC (switches automatically depending on the scene) and the plot is about Monika helping MC ask out their crush (either Sayori, Yuri or Natsuki depending on what you choose). This takes place after the events of the game but instead of Monika deleting everything, she's brought back to life because the player put her file back in the folder (and I guess she didn't complain this time?) and the MC doesn't remember the other 3 acts, but Monika does and is using her knowledge to help them. It still has that DDLC edgy vibe to it (not like act 2 though, more like subtle bits of horror scattered here and there as I don't want it to just be all lovey dovey) and Monika does break the 4th wall in dialogue in places. I haven't planned out all the details of each route yet. I have a vague idea for Sayori and a semi decent ending for Yuri, and the beginning dialogue between Monika and the MC.

All the assets will be original and the music will be more like a techno style remix of the original tracks.

I'll probably make this as a side project, but I'm quite busy at the moment so it's gonna' take a while.
