"Imagine if time all happened at once." The professor stood at the front of a classroom with chalkboards behind him and a ruler in hand. As he spoke, he addressed a class of maybe forty or fifty; all of which were engrossed in his speech. "Every moment of your life laid out around you like a city." He continued, slowly pacing around as he spoke. "The streets are full of buildings made of days. There's the day you were born and the day you die. There's day you fall in love and the day that love ends."

"It's a whole city built from triumph, heartbreak, boredom, and laughter." His pacing came to a stop as he turned to face the rest of the class. "And it is the best place you will ever be." He clapped his hands together just as the school bell simultaneously went off. He had no finishing words or goodbyes to share, and his students had long grown used to it. Once that bell rang, he was silent as the night.

The classroom was soon emptied, leaving Maranda to his lonesome. He sat on his desk and drawled out a sigh. His eyes draped over the desk to a cup of... hot chocolate. A god-sent drink, hot chocolate was for Maranda. He took a sip. Were anyone there to see it, they could have sworn his pale skin warmed and his dead eyes sparkled. It was almost as though he were brought back to life again.
