The evening of the 2nd October is an information Night highlighting the financial and educational circumstances of our young women, as well as encouraging everyone to sponsor a “Kit” for one girl. (Hopefully more)

There is a growing need to support local girls whose parents are unfortunate enough to not afford adequate sanitary items and thus their girls are too embarrassed to attend school highlight the growing financial constraints families face and for many school absenteeism. When funds are tight -food and rent are more a priority than the purchase of sanitary items. 

Burwood Council has been supporting Days for Girls through their monthly volunteers "Sewing Bee” for over 12 months, I believe. Julie Stralow from Burwood Council and her team from Burwood Council have been extremely supportive. 

On this occasion, given how busy Mayor Faker is, we would be happy for a person from the Council attend to represent him and can offer the opportunity to speak for 2-3 minutes.

Days for girls Australia and Business and Professional Women Strathfield are advocated for change to support women and girls in a period of diminishing incomes and financial insecurity. We are highlighting the growing need of awareness through open discussion, and continuing the conversation through connecting with all levels of government businesses and community. As part of our 'Cruising with a Cause' concept this year we have gotten involved with @daysforgirls an international organisation who provide resuable cotton pads for girls who live in remote communities with no access to sanitary products. . Many spend a week or so each month sitting on scraps of cardboard and leaves in huts, missing out on the fun of daily life. It's quite the eye opener, when you consider most of us don't think twice about these matters - we simply pop to the shops to re-stock. . As we head out to some of the more remote areas of the Western Pacific we have been tasked with delivering 200 packs to girls who live on these islands and attols - and I have to say we're pretty chuffed with this collaboration. . If you're planning on cruising to remote places anywhere in the world, consider paying it forward by adding these packs into your supplies. . They are made of cotton, with 8 reusable pads, 2 clip in liners, 2 pairs of underpants, a facecloth and soap - all bundled into a handy pouch, giving about 8 years supply. . So just had 200 (!) reusable menstrual hygiene kits go to Endulen, a remote Maasai community. Previously these girls were using torn off foam mattresses, dirty old shirts, or just staying in their Bomas for several days every month. So proud off my team & all that have made this happen. It was a good day & shade was welcomed. I spent a few hours at High Trek Adventures watching families with amazing kiddos, braving their fears on very high and intricate rope obstacle courses and zip lines. I witnessed kids of all ages and backgrounds working together, encouraging and guiding others who weren't sure if they could do it. Today was about empowerment. 👊🏻 There was quite a turnout today and proceeds from this event help Days for Girls provide sustainable feminine hygiene solutions and health education to women and girls in 100+ countries. We are delighted to share that our partner READ Bhutan has distributed some kits to girls from Sengdey Lower Secondary School in Dorokha. The distribution was conducted by Ms Rinchen Choden from READ Bhutan. Many of the girls come from the Ihop (Doya), Rai and Ghalley indigenous communities of Bhutan and live in the Tading and Dophuchen villages of Dorokha, in Samtse. This is one of the more remote areas of Bhutan. This distribution came about though a conversation between Rinchen Choden and a colleague who is based in the area through her work with another NGO. It is wonderful to see the kits reach the hands of these girls and to know that Rinchen Choden was also able provide the essential education on mentrual health and hygiene that accompanies every kit distribution. Thank you to everyone who supports this project! For the Bonner's March Service we had a lovely and inspiring time learning about Days for Girls and the struggle young girls, in impoverished communities, have in getting to school during their period. We learned about how often many girls have to choose between buying food and buying menstrual pads. Without access or resources to menstrual wear these girls miss school and fall behind. With the help of these reusable pads and the ovulation cycle map, it gives power to these young women to help have control over their life, their future, and their education.
