STORY STATUS - DAY 5
The second day of the festival saw Kanaya more preoccupied with matters of business more than matters of pleasure. Now, though, a new day dawns and the third day of the festival is in full swing! Haunted by nightmares of the missing Egbert party and of the knowledge that her own previous death may have been foul play, Kanaya tries to make the most of the day.
As she attempts to become familiar with the island and meets Feferi's strange friends, can she find the party she was looking for all along? Or will the mysteries simply pile on higher...?
THE LOCATION
The Isle of Skaia, a little island known for it's Dungeon which, while relatively new, appears to draw adventurers from far and wide with a mysterious call...
Lo'Oat appears to come from an old language, meaning "(Land of) Omens and Truth"
THE CAST
Kanaya Maryam, Sylph - A scholar from a Western kingdom ruled by the Queen of Elves. She has set sail to the island of Skaia to follow the trail left by a book penned by a mysterious author...
Feferi, Magic User - A beastman elf with a high affinity for magic and a deft hand at healing and resurrection! She is the likely culprit of who sang the half-foot steward off his ship some days prior, but she made sure to save him before anything terrible happened.
Aradia, Exorcist - A tallman magic user with an encyclopedic knowledge of ghosts and the supernatural! She is another kind face on Skaia, though perhaps a little too interested in the workings of the dead. Would really like someone's ectoplasm the next time they die.
Eridan, Magic User - Feferi's mage friend and apparent elf, a somewhat disagreeable and contrarian companion that Kanaya doesn't necessarily look forward to spending more time with.
Mr. Egbert, Baker - A Tallman hailing from Skaia who owns a bakery in the little aboveground village of Lo'Oat. Five years before, his daughter was lost to the dungeon. Every time he attempts to enter and find her body, he's almost immediately killed.
Porrim Maryam, Court Magician - A Court Magician in the Court of the Queen of Elves and Kanaya's elder sister. This is who Kanaya writes to the most about her adventures within the Dungeon.
R. L. Theras / Rose Lalonde, Magic User - The mysterious author of Learned Complacency: A Record of the Zoologically Dubious in Skaia Dungeon, Kanaya's favorite book and adventuring guide.
Missing, presumed dead.
June Egbert, Egbert Party leader - Missing, presumed dead.
Dave of Stri'dir, Knight - Missing, presumed dead.
Jade Harley, Arcane Researcher - Missing, presumed dead.
ABOUT DUNGEONBENT
DungeonBent is a Homestuck AU created by @jojotier where Homestuck characters have been placed in the world of Dungeon Meshi! It mainly follows Kanaya, an elf scholar who hires the party of Karkat Vantas to escort her into the Dungeon on Skaia Island, where mysterious arcane writings of forbidden magic originate, all penned by a mysterious RL...

Movie Review | Night of the Living Dead (Savini, 1990)
Was hoping the good vibes from my OG Dawn of the Dead rewatch would help warm me up to these Romero remakes, but it's only emphasizing how much they suck. I'd seen this one before, and for what it's worth, it's among the better made remakes of a classic horror movie, but that's really damning it with faint praise. Beyond that basic technical competence, I struggle to see what everyone else loves about this. Tom Savini takes the director's chair, and seems to confuse shrillness for intensity. Not a moment goes by when characters aren't shouting, hammering or finding other ways to make noise. This one recreates the big shocks from Romero's original, but the contrast helps you see how much better a director Romero was, letting the shocks play against some level of stillness or buildup, while Savini lets them get drowned out by the noise.
And the remake deserves a few points for making Barbara more proactive, the characterizations make you appreciate how much better a handle Romero had on interpersonal dynamics. Despite some of the shaky supporting performances, Romero's movie was able to define the characters against their collapsing societal roles and assign them a variety of natural responses to the situation. The family man is being a dickhead because his role as the patriarch is being threatened. Even Barbara going catatonic, something that the remake "corrects" for, makes some sense as a trauma response. Here, it feels like the characters are doing what they do because that's what they did in the original, and the handling of the Tom Towles character, who spends his scenes loudly calling the other characters "Lamebrains!" and "Yo-yos!", is a pretty severe miscalculation that pretty much sinks the movie for me.
I'm even going to attack Savini's direction, because his style feels overlit and consciously pulpy, and lacks the brute force impact of Romero's shadowy, claustrophobic images. And while it's admirable on paper that he didn't want to turn this into a gorefest, this is like Eddie Murphy not wanting to do jokes in Beverly Hills Cop III. Nobody is better at this stuff than you, why would you not do it. And some truly heinous splatter might have at least punctured the wall of noise.
Honestly, I might have enjoyed this as a segment in an anthology, and I do like Patricia Tallman and Tony Todd in this. And I guess it's nice that the boys finally made some money off this property. But at feature length, this is a total chore.

Netflix: FRYBREAD FACE & ME
Read the full article

Funkatomic, il nuovo singolo è "Take my heart", cover del classico dei Kool & the Gang
La canzone scelta da Funkatomic è "Take My Heart (You Can Have It If You Want It)", che è stata completamente risuonata in tutte le sue parti dal produttore romano e cantata dalla splendida voce di Lee Wilson.

❝ You’ve made your choice… and so have I. ❞ {Optional from any of the boys}
A Little Conversation || -
Riley eyes Dylan up and down. Then he slowly reaches for the shot of whiskey that his fingertips have been hovering around for the last tense sixty seconds. The other man's words are ominous, taken with a certain kind of gravity that could be imparted to words of doom perpetually suspended in the air, or as a threat of immediate and utmost concern. Dark green eyes narrow when they rise up and meet Dylan's on a even playing feel. They're of an age with each other. Riley is taller, they've got a similar build. Which one is faster, which one is more determined would be left up to fate but it'd at least be an even match, something Riley isn't terribly used to. The whiskey burns its way down his throat but the smoky aftertaste is sweet and lingers there. Lips peel back from his teeth as he hisses out a breath then smoothly waves a hand for another one. The bartender seems to take his sweet ass time in refilling it, but at least he's choosing to mind his own business. The bar itself is one of those non-descript kind of holes in the wall. Been in the Tallman family for as long as anyone around these parts can remember, and despite being about two steps from being a sagging shanty, will likely remain. Deer Creek is a fly speck, doesn't even exist on maps, with the closest city being Gatlinburg. It's the one place though that townies and hillfolk like himself can meet in relative peace. Riley knocks back the second shot, and for a few seconds his hand strays toward his hip and the knife that is sheathed there. Then he breaks into a grin and shakes his head. "Shit, son. You ought'er relax. It's just a game'a eight-ball, not like we're settin' up a duel at dawn." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out the requisite three quarters needed to claim the single table.
