I was thinking if I specify the skin tones of vampires in my fantasy world of Midnight's Pack right (back then, in the post I made about them) - I have a feeling I should describe it a little more and this time with examples.

I'm worried the way I wrote the highlighted part in the post sounds questionable at best, therefore I'll try to describe it better this time.

To understand what I meant, we will need examples and why not to use two most prominent vampire teenagers, William "Liam" Desrosiers (one of the five protagonists of the story) and David "Dave" Vesper (one of the classmates and a vampire from a middle-class family).

As you can see, Liam (he/him) has a light and visibly cold skin tone that's mostly associated with a stereotypical appearance of vampires we know.

On the other hand, Dave (also he/him) is dark-skinned, however, you can see that I chose shades of brown that aren't warm - this is because of vampires' naturally lower body temperature and light liquid they have instead of blood.

Hopefully, this made my earlier statement clear. I have to be more careful and write what I have on my mind better.

I think I saw this movie on TV ages ago, but I had forgotten exactly how incoherent it is. It's at least three different movies in one, with sequences that vary wildly in tone and quality ... but even if it's less than the sum of its parts, some of the parts are pretty fun. And I love that Ursula Andress got to glam up in this crystal-encrusted pale yellow dress, since she didn't really get the chance in Dr. No.

Also, is it just me, or does Ursula Andress look kind of like Natalie Portman in profile? (See below especially.)

Vesper was lost for words. She focused entirely on the last three words Tristan said, I want you. It made her skin feel hot and her heart race. At first her mouth opened, glossed lips remaining parting and the words failing to come out but in disbelief Vesper eventually questioned what he'd said. "Sorry?" she swallwoed thickly, her throat suddenly dry. Nobody had ever been so forward with her. "You... Okay you, want me?" her laugh, the giggle, it was one drawn from nerves. "Like you... want me to leave or like you want me to get you a drink?" Idiot.

super excited for the end of this month because it means we’ll be singing the great advent antiphons at vespers!! we sing one of these every day from the 17th to the 23rd of december, i’m looking forward to it a lot, so here is my rating of each of the antiphons: 

o sapientia: starting the antiphons off strong!! the fact that it’s the first one gives it a special something. makes it feel extra solemn and haunting. very solid 9/10 

o adonai: i don’t know why but i have always found this one the most difficult to sing, and the cantor is often frustrated by this. i cannot take this kind of criticism from the cantor, if he slightly raises his voice at me i will cry. 3/10

o radix jesse: ooh the quiet parts!! ooh the drama! appeals to the theatre kid in me. i am holding space with the lyrics of o radix jesse. 10/10 

o clavis david: oh this gets the older monks so excited. i’ve never understood why but it’s like the cha cha slide to them. slide to the left! now contemplate your own mortality! i don’t see the hype, personally. 6/10  

o oriens: of course you have o oriens as your favourite antiphon. and pronouns. i know what you are. 11/10

o rex gentium:  if i say it’s mid i will be bludgeoned to death by all of the novices currently going through their emo phase. this one is CONSISTENTLY their favourite. and like, i’ve been there. but it is out of fear that i rate this 8/10. and nothing else 

o emmanuel: by this point the anticipation has started to BUILD, and this one really adds to that. it’s the last one and we’re ending on an absolute banger. 10/10

cymon and iphigenia by frederic leighton! cymon gazes upon a sleeping iphigenia and is filled with inspiration of which he never knew before. it has a very warm feeling to it, and it is set at dusk in early autumn. also it's just pretty.

symphony in white, no.1 by james mcneill whistler! the original artist said that this painting had no deeper meaning, ominous much, but also it depicts a woman casually standing on a dead wolf, which is undeniably badass.

I was born in a little town in Romania to a woman named Anetka and her husband David. Anetka was a Russian immigrant. They loved me. A lot. They never stopped searching.

When I was probably two months old, they hired a nanny to help, since both of them worked. That nanny was actually Melina Vostokov, the Iron Widow. She got to know my parents in that time.

When I was eight months old, she was ordered to steal me. She gave me my name that night, too. Vespera Anetka Volkov. Anetka for my mother, Volkov so I would be strong like the wolves. Vespera…. My mother spoke Latin, she was a religious historian. She called me her Twilight Princess… so she named me Vespera, Vesper for dusk. Melina said it was a tactical choice… but it was a sentimental one

She said that as soon as she had a god to pray to, she prayed for me.

Only one of them is living. David. Anetka… she killed herself when I was declared dead. I’ve seen her grave. Next to a small red granite one for the daughter who died. And really, she died when she was stolen. She died multiple times. At this rate I’m a Phoenix given how many times I’ve died.
