me again, skip! 🎶 3, 7, 12 & 18 for the music ask game! 🎶
o how you stoke the flames of my tired mind, em...
3. A song you’d choose to introduce someone to your favorite genre Ooh, tough one... I don't know that I really have a favorite genre, since my music taste is very influenced by friends and/or various soundtracks. But the genre I grew up on was progressive rock, so I'll say: Judas Unrepentant, by preeminent English prog band Big Big Train! Prog rock is often distinguished by narrative storytelling. This song is about infamous art forger Tom Keating, and ends with what might be two of my favorite lyrics of all time? (Though it would be remiss of me not to point out it is very much Keating's version of events the song tells, no matter how much the late great David Longdon's vocals make my heart swell - hey, that rhymes!)
7. A song you know every word to Not counting musicals, and in the spirit of fandom, I'll say His Hands by Blegh, a song I had a brief but intense infatuation with after it was rec'ed for a friend's fic! 12. A song from the 90s This barely counts as 90s but in honor of my sexy brooding™ playlist (which is come to think of it comprised nearly entirely of songs played at The Bronze): Virgin State of Mind by K's Choice. It famously scores Vamp!Willow's introduction on Buffy - here's the scene, for the uninitiated.
18. A song you’d play to set the mood on a date Mm, a romantic date? As in, someone cooked (read: I ordered takeout), and there's wine & candles & dark chocolate mousse for dessert? Julie London's Cry Me A River, undisputed queen of the low-lit, after-dinner slow dance; dishes drying on the counter, half-empty glasses of pinot noir on the rug, a dish towel still slung over someone's shoulder... ...I'll leave you with that vivid image, which I hope inspires NO yearning whatsoever 😌 thank you for the questions, most lovely and big-brained compatriot <3

Here's how atheist candidates fared in the 2022 elections
There are at least 15 nonreligious state senators.
This is a jump from 10 just two years ago. While they use different labels to describe themselves, these legislators show that you can represent people of faith even when you don’t believe in a Higher Power yourself.
Sen. Stanley Chang (HI)
Geoff Schroeder (ID)
Pinny Beebe-Center (NH)
Sen. William Brownsberger (MA)
Sen. Jeff Irwin (MI)
Sen. Jen McEwen (MN)
Sen. Megan Hunt (NE)
Sen. Andrew Zwicker (NJ) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Sen. William Peter Soules (NM) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Sen. Julie Mayfield (NC)
Nate Blouin (UT)
Rep. Rebecca White (VT)
Sen. Dick McCormack (VT)
Sen. Melissa Agard (WI) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Sen. Kelda Roys (WI) (wasn’t on the ballot)
Those whose races have not been called yet:
Jeanne Casteen (AZ)
Sen. Juan Mendez (AZ)
Brian Nash (CA)
Maria Peterson (IL)
You can see from the list that the senators include challengers, former state representatives, and incumbents whose open nonreligiosity wasn’t a dealbreaker for voters.
There are at least 44 nonreligious state representatives
With several races yet to be called, this is heading toward a record number of nonreligious State House members.
Jennifer Longdon (AZ)
Rep. Melody Hernandez (AZ)
Rep. Athena Salman (AZ)
Rep. Karen McCormick (CO)
Rep. Brianna Titone (CO)
Rep. Chris Kennedy (CO)
Rep. Judy Amabile (CO)
Rep. Cathy Kipp (CO)
Rep. Joshua Elliott (CT)
Rep. Roland J. Lemar (CT)
Rep. Paul Baumbach (DE)
Rep. Eric Morrison (DE)
Rep. Anna Eskamani (FL)
Elinor Levin (IA)
Rep. Lynne Williams (ME)
Rep. Lois Reckitt (ME)
Rep. Julie Palakovich Carr (MD)
Rep. David Moon (MD)
Rep. Jim Hawkins (MA)
Rep. Tram Nguyen (MA)
Rep. Mike Freiberg (MI)
Bob Carter (MT)
Rep. Rochelle Nguyen (NV)
Rep. Howard Watts III (NV)
Carry Spier (NH)
Rep. Sherry Dutzy (NH)
Rep. Amanda Bouldin (NH)
Rep. Kat McGhee (NH)
Rep. Jacqueline Chretien (NH)
Rep. Ellen Read (NH)
Rep. Harvey Epstein (NY)
Rep. Pam Marsh (OR)
Rep. Julie Fahey (OR)
Emily Kinkead (PA)
Mark Rozzi (PA)
Robert Ziegler (PA)
Rep. Chris Rabb (PA)
Rep. Jon Rosenthal (TX)
Rep. Robin Scheu (VT)
Rep. Kathleen James (VT)
Rep. Barbara Rachelson (VT)
Monique Priestley (VT)
Rep. Strom Peterson (WA)
Rep. Francesca Hong (WI)
Those whose races have not been called yet:
Sara Aminzadeh (CA)
Alex Lee (CA)
Stephanie Vigil (CO)
Jennifer Parenti (CO)
Brooke Grossman (MD)
Joey Andrews (MI)
Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban (NH)
Wendy Thomas (NH)
Holly Hillhouse (NH)
Melanie Renfrew-Hebert (NH)
Courtney Neron (OR)
Zach Hudson (OR)
Rep. Ashlee Matthews (UT)
Mike Rice (VT)
Jessica Wadhams (WA)
As you can see, there’s a mix of incumbents and challengers, including in several red states.

Fairport Convention Co-founder Judy Dyble Dies at 71
Fairport Convention co-founding vocalist Judy Dyble died July 12 after “a long illness borne with great courage,” said an announcement on her Facebook page.
Dyble was 71 and had been battling lung cancer, her former Fairport bandmate Richard Thompson said.
“All my thoughts and prayers,” the guitarist wrote on Facebook.
Dyble left Fairport Convention after its 1968 self-titled debut and briefly joined King Crimson precursor Giles, Giles & Fripp. She sung lead vocals on the first version of “I Talk to the Wind,” which was eventually released on the 1976 compilation, The Young Person's Guide to King Crimson.
After decades away from the music scene, Dyble re-emerged for Fairport Convention’s 30th-anniversary reunion. She went on to make a string of 21st-century solo albums; the most recent, Earth is Sleeping, arrived in 2018.
“Judy Dyble was a genuinely lovely person with a beautiful voice,” former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett tweeted. “I’m very sad to hear the news of her death.”
Her final album, Between a Breath and a Breath, was recorded with Big Big Train’s David Longdon and will be released Sept. 25.
Tumblr media
Longdon composed the music to accompany Dyble’s lyrics on the LP and said she “wrote articulately and unflinchingly about the autumn phase of her life,” adding, “she dealt with her illness with incredible courage and fortitude.
“She suspected this album was her swan song and she gave it her all,” Longdon said in his statement. “Judy reassured me that she’d had a great life. Which indeed she did. And I will miss her greatly.”

fmk: peter gabriel, ian anderson, david longdon
This is a difficult one for me because I don’t really have a strong opinion on these guys? I had to google one of them.
F - Peter Gabriel (do I get to pick which era? 80’s Gabriel, please!)
M - David Longdon (I have never heard of him but he seems very talented and hopefully he’s a nice guy too)
K - Ian Anderson, death by flute
🤷‍♀️ sorry!

I just learned that the lead singer of one of my family's favorite bands, Big Big Train, died in an auto accident. He was only 56, and left behind a family... just absolutely devastating.
Rest in peace, David Longdon.
