Cannonball Adderley "Jump For Joy" 全くノー・マークのキャノンボールのアルバムです。時期とパーソネルが興味深いので購入してみました。 さて、何が興味深いかと言うと... 本作の録音年月日です。1958年8月20,21日、NYCと言うのは... 。 ●1956年にキャノンボールは弟のコルネット奏者ナット・アダレイとクインテットを結成するものの僅か1年も経たずに解散... ●1957年にマイルス・デイヴィスの���しい3管セクステットのメンバーにジョン・コルトレーンと共に新人として抜擢。 ●そして、1958年2月4日と3​​月4日にマイルスの名盤"Milestones"(Columbia) の録音... その直後1958年3月9日に超名盤"Somethin' Else"の録音にも参加。 ●1958年7月1日にはJulian Adderley Quintet として"Portrait Of Cannonball"を録音。Cannonball Adderley (as)  Blue Mitchell (tp) Bill Evans (p) Sam Jones (b) Philly Jo Jones (ds)と言う超強力布陣！ ●そして本作は、この約1ヶ月後の録音です... 。 ●翌年1959年2月3日録音、弟とのバンド復活"Cannonball Adderley Quintet in Chicago"... ●さらに1959年3月2日,4月22日録音は不朽の歴史的作品Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"... と繋がっていくことになります。 つまり、本作は上り調子のど真ん中の時期の録音で、マイルス・デイヴィスのコンボに在籍しながらも、実は自己のスタイルを模索しながら発表したアルバムなのです。 ですから、もうひとつの興味深い点は曲調です。当時からビル・エヴァンスとは親密のようですが、ほとんどエヴァンスらしさが見られず音量も聴こえないくらいに小さい。 さらにキャノンボールの作品には大変珍しい、弦楽四重奏を配したある意味非常に意欲的な作品です。彼の持ち味であるテンポの良いファンキー・ジャズとは全く別物。実は、彼のスタイルはこの後に確立します。 また、楽曲はデューク・エリントンのミュージカルから、アレンジはレニー・トリスターノの元学生であり1950年代スタンケントン・オーケストラに画期的な楽曲を提供していたビル・ルッソである点も本作の見逃せないポイント。 とにかく、一聴では決してキャノンボールのアルバムとは思えないかも知れませんが、キャノンボールだと思ってよくよく聴けば、確かにフレーズはキャノンボール、思い切り控え目なエヴァンスもエヴァンスですよ。 レーベルもMercuryとは珍しい。 カートリッジはShure SC35Cの円やかさが必須。演奏はキャノンボールが前に出すぎで他の楽器が弱すぎです。メンバーを考えれば、バランスを取って欲しかったのですが、たぶん当時キャノンボールを売り出そうとする意図だったのではないかと想像します。 #MercuryRecords  ‎(MG 36146)US盤 #CannonballAdderley (as) #BillEvans (p) #MiltHinton (b) #JimmyCobb (ds) #BarryGalbraith (g) #EmmettBerry (tp) #DaveSchwartz (viola) #GeneOrloff (violin) #LeoKruczek (violin) #GeorgeRicci (ce) Arranged By - #BillRusso Design - #EmmettMcBain Photography By - #DonBronstein #jazz #fuzey #vinyl #jazzvinyl #vinylcollection #ジャズ #スイングジャーナル #レコード #ビニールレコード *作品を知るとジャズはもっと輝きます。情報くださる先輩諸氏に感謝。 https://www.instagram.com/p/CheAhycv9Zw/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
