Notes: This fic manages to capture the vibes and some plots and character traits of Carry On perfectly, while still being an original story. It’s super cute, angsty at times, has adorable pining and some unexpected plot twists.

David once told me that I’m the worst Chosen One who’s ever been chosen. I would never ever tell him so, but I think he’s right. I have no idea how I’m supposed to save the World of Mages when there’s days where I can barely get out of bed. I think some days my energy is fuelled purely by the fact that I don’t want David to see me like that. He’s the only reason I get up in the morning sometimes.

That makes it sound like I like him. I don’t. He’s my archnemesis, so to speak. My evil roommate. The guy who’s going to off me if I don’t off him first.

Which is why I can’t let him see me like this. Broken. He’d never let me hear the end of it if he knew. That there’s something seriously wrong with me and I can’t seem to fix it. Magic can’t seem to fix it.

David:

I think he used to be excited for the fight. He used to overflow with energy and he always seemed like all he wanted was a place to put all of his magic. I guess I should have been more scared for my own life. But lately, I don’t think he wants to fight anymore. He’s different. He’s quieter. Sadder. Some days, I just want to grab him and get him out of here, far away. Hide him in some long forgotten family cottage and don’t let anyone find him. Get him away from all the pressure, from having to be the Chosen One, from having to be anyone. Let him just be a boy.Then I remember that we’re enemies.

Some davenzi fic recs

So a few days ago @davenzs asked for some davenzi fic recs.  Because I’m a nice person (but mostly because I wanted to reread some old favourites) I started trawling through my history to find some of my faves.  It was a little frustrating and I know I’ve missed a few that I love because I can’t remember names and/or authors.  But here - have a few of the fics that I have enjoyed over the last year or so.  I have a very specific taste set and several very popular tropes that I dislike, so this is by no means exhaustive and I’m sure other people have other great fics they can rec that fit outside my very small parameters (feel free to let us know what they are!).  This is a mixture of lengths and dates when they were written, so I put them in alphabetical order and didn’t separate out one shots from chaptered fics ... have fun with that 💜

i didn’t find anything new, i would love to find more and i don’t scroll through ao3 because i end up reading offensive ones than good ones and it ruins my mood entirely. this one time, the summary looked SO GOOD, and it was just awful the way they wrote it, character assassination at it’s finest.

He’s currently listening to Laura and Linn tell the story of their first date with an amused smile on his face and it tugs at David’s heart in a way he wishes it wouldn’t.

Falling in love with your best friend isn’t ideal in any situation, but in this particular situation, it’s disastrous.

Because David’s seen the way Matteo looks at Jonas and it’s the same way he looks at Matteo.

Summary:  David touched his palm to the surface of the wood, and closed his own eyes. To be on the other side where he’d been just moments before; to be lying there next to the boy, hands and feet lined up together and nearly touching. To reach inside his mouth and pry those two words loose from his throat, wrap his fingers around them and pull them out and cast them aside like so much refuse. To look at him, then, not even to touch - just look. To stay until the silence became a comfort again. Summary:  Just because Matteo is kind of David’s date at this party, Laura and her friends shouldn’t assume that Matteo and David are dating - but they’re assuming just that anyway, and that means a lot of trouble for Matteo, who harbors big secret feelings for his friend. It could be so nice if everything everyone thought was true, especially tonight when David is extra affectionate. But these wrong assumptions get Matteo in a lot of trouble, and he’s just trying to survive this party night without getting hurt too much. If only he could talk to David about it all…
