That Feeling When Taash and Rook Talk About How They're Both Hella Autistic

So this conversation happens immediately after the Fangscorcher fight. Rook and Taash are chatting afterwards, and Rook brings up the mantra Taash said after the Fangscorcher died: Shokra toh ebra. You must struggle with who you are, as Taash translates it.

Taash explains that they have anger issues. Or rather, as I interpret it, emotional regulation problems, since after my Rook tried to joke about Taash's temper not being that bad, Taash says this:

To me, this reads as ASD. Combined with Taash's affect, their general demeanor... Maybe I'm just a little autistic lady looking for rep but to me, it slots in. Dragons are their special interest, the thing they hyperfixate on and understand because dragons are Simple. Easy. They're intelligent animals that you don't have to learn and remember social cues to understand.

I grew up with autism, but in a place where there was no diagnosis, no help, no acknowledgement of it. I would have meltdowns, I'd scream and tear things and stomp and slap. But they were called tantrums, and I was called a problem.

So imagine my joy when the option to empathize, to say "yup, me too" came up.

I was a little worried that Rook's response would basically just. Compare normal frustration to what I was reading as clear neurodivergence on Taash's part. But Veilguard, you surprised me.

This tells me that my read of it is 100% accurate, because Rook is DEFINITELY describing neurodivergence here. She's describing, in my opinion because I'm autistic, autism. These two are autistic and bonding over the shared experience of feeling as though they're play-acting being "normal", of feeling like their skin is about to burst from the excess energy, of feeling like one comment will make them scream and kick and bite. Of making scripts in their head and getting annoyed and freaked out when the script doesn't work.

My Rook is a predominately Purple Rook, with some situational stoicism and overt kindness. She's Purple with her friends, Kind to everyone else, Stoic in situations where everyone else seems to be freaking out. Because of this scene, my read on her is that the Purple Rook, the one that jokes and makes dorky comments, is the closest thing to who SHE is. That's her when she's comfortable, when she's confident the person she's talking to isn't going to misinterpret what she's saying and get mad.

The Kind Rook, the Sentimental Rook, even the Stoic Rook... those are around other people. The Grey Wardens, the Veil Jumpers, the Mourn Watchers. (not the Crows, the Crows are her friends and family; Viago gets the full brunt of her at all times) Those are the moments where the joke, the mildly hysterical pun, gets dragged back down and she goes with her second or third thought. The Correct Thought: to be gentle, to be tough, to be sympathetic.

I just... I really like Veilguard, guys. I just really like it a lot.
