there are three categories of nicknames for my friend collective:

based on/a play on your url

vibes/associations

something we came up with together that makes sense (or doesn't)

so for instance, one of my first nickname friends was @akindofmagictoo and hers is Maybe Sorcery. I also sometimes call her Perchance Enchantment, just for fun. She's the only one who gets two whole two-word nicknames.

and there's @avrablake whose url reminds me of dusky cobblestone streets just after it's rained so she's Rainstorm. And when I'm feeling especially fond I add the addendum daughterdearest.

and another one is @zmwrites and hers is Ghosty, because she told me she does ghost tours. The word ghosty isn’t particularly warming but for me it is. It's very cute.

so if I suddenly show up in your mailbox with a nickname for you that seems a little random, it's not! it's one of these three options.

please note that nicknames can be bargained for, or changed depending on preference. I went away and came back with a better nickname for @nopoodles and it turns out Paperbirch is pretty perfect.

anyway you all should be thankful I don't put the same (lack of) thought into nicknames as my dad, who is a serial nicknamer but they're always very questionable. My mom, sister, and myself can all be called "BK" now, for none good reasons.

She shook her head, smile frozen on her otherwise pretty features, “In fact, I would much rather you never bring it up again. It’s a lot easier to like you when I’m not reminded of the fact that you sold me off to Heph, Daddy.” 

Zeus released a deep sigh at his daughter’s response. “Okay baby. I’m sorry.” he spoke, sincere. He knew he had made his daughter unhappy with the marriage and every time one of them -or someone else- brought it up he’d feel regret for ever having forced it upon her. At the time he’d been stuck. He had to fulfill his duties as a leader of Olympus and thereby he had neglected his duties as a father. In fact he had neglected his duties as a father more often.

And suddenly Zeus felt the need to know if his daughter knew he loved her. Suddenly the once mighty god felt like he had to make sure his daughter knew he was there for her. That he wanted to be a better father for her. “You know I love you right? Despite everything?” Questioning her about it he could only hope that she did or that she would allow him to show, “You’re my daughter. I want you to know I’m here for you if you need me. I’ll try to be a better father for you. I know I haven’t always been in the past. But I do love you, Aphrodite.”

Hi Mother Dearest, how have you been? besides the whole yellow jacket debacle 😢

What characters or stories have been on your mind lately?

okay so I caught a cold, a sore throat cold, my least favorite kind, but I think I'm finally mending. I've not had a voice for four days and that's taxing on me. I'm used to being able to talk all my thoughts out loud, especially my brainstorming thoughts, which never have any substance until I've talked them.

the collective has been on my mind. I've been skipping stones over the whole pond, and there are a lot of lily pads in there. I don't mind, of course. I like having so many. I thought up a new one today, inspired by my dad talking about "the narrows" in New Foundland. I'm not going to discuss it in any detail yet, because it is barely a premise. it's something I could possibly add to the emporium chronicles.

I've been scheming about the healthcare and unions and minimum wage and whatnot that I'm going to include in fantasy retail world, because it's my world and it'll have relatable issues and also better protections for workers.

my head is kinda blurry atm because I finally watched Top Gun Maverick all the way through with dad - the flying! I love the flying! - and I'm currently listening to the soundtrack because of course I am. I'm not going to have a wip about fighter pilots.

tangent: of all the many, many "way too late to be making this" sequels we've gotten recently, Maverick was a good one. 'cause they just made essentially the same movie. a guy has one issue, is pushed to his limits, has to overcome the issue and also there's lots of fighter piloting. also there's a barely there romance that you don't super care about but it does round out the guy a tad.

anyway. I was also thinking about my childhood? mom pulled out some of the home videos we'd put on dvd - a lot of them need to be redone, but so many of my memories have been cemented just from watching myself and my sisters doing THINGS from when we were younger. I certainly don't remember my first birthday but I can see it! and watching the movie made me remember that we used to go to air shows when I was really little, like 4 or 5 or 6, and then when we were in England, we went to a couple. I was 10. I've still got the little model airplanes from it. and that made me remember how we used to go sailing in the reservoir in THE BOAT THAT WE STILL OWN that's sitting on my grandparents old property and I don't think we'll ever sail again. but I have memories of it!

Daughter Dearest | Aphrodite & Zeus

Staying true to the promise he had made to himself, Zeus was on his way to the posh district where he hoped to find one of his daughters. Since the oracle couldn’t provide him any information about his daughter Aphrodite, he had taken the search for her to the great wide web as well. Learning she owned a lingerie boutique in the posh district, the lighting god had smiled warmly to himself when a picture of her appeared on the screen. Of course he didn’t recognize his daughter in this form but she, as always, was a sight for sore eyes. One might not believe it, but Zeus was proud and fond of his daughter. She had grown up to become a great and powerful goddess who was more than worthy to be a part of Olympus. So what was there to not like about her? The relationship between them, however, hadn’t always been a good one. He did force her into marriage in the past, but he’d done that solely for the good of Olympus. The gods were fighting for her affections and he couldn’t let a war break out so as a leader he did what he had to do. As a father he did regret his and his wife’s decision, but he couldn’t undo it. As her father and the leader of Olympus he had known about her countless affaires, but instead of trying to break them off he allowed her to have them. It would be rather selfish of his if he’d take away his daughter’s pleasure and happiness. Especially because he hadn’t been filthy of having affaires back in the day as well.

Walking down the street the boutique was situated in Zeus approved of the place Aphrodite had picked out to open her shop. This district clearly was the better part of town. He had passed by higher class restaurants, businesses and shopping malls. The streets were clean and the people he passed by here all looked more sophisticated and well-dressed. Eventually arriving at his destination, the god took a long and good look at the shop. Only after taking it in fully and committing it to his memory, did he enter the Silk Peach boutique with a warm relaxed smile. It softening his entire expression. Briefly glancing around, he did his best to not openly stare at the beautiful and seductive pieces of lingerie she had to offer. Of course that was harder for him than originally expected, but he figured he could look through the goods she has to offer later. First he had to say hello to his daughter of course. Clearing his throat he went to look for her then, the warm smile only widening at the sight of her. “Hello Aphrodite. It’s good to see you.”
