So for starters, I wrote a book about it —sort of. It’s about Angharad, not Gwydion. He’s mentioned, but let me spill the tea, as the young folks say…

If you do the math, Gwydion would have been a young man in his prime about the time Angharad was going through her betrothal ritual in The True Enchanter. It almost begs to be asked why he wasn’t in the lineup — dude’s the crown Prince, heir to the throne of the High King, and he can even do some minor magic. So how come he didn’t show up to this rivalry? He surely knew of her and likely knew her personally, since it’s one of the heir’s jobs to have diplomatic relationships with the neighboring royal families. And by the literary account, Angharad was clever, witty, charming, beautiful, and much desired by many; why wouldn’t he have carried a torch for her? So yeah. I think he was besotted. But it wouldn’t work.

First thing you should know is that in my own private Prydain, the House of Llyr isn’t just another royal family dinking around the kingdom, paying fealty to the Sons of Don. They’re a matriarchy, which sets them apart, and I decided a long time ago that they are, in fact, an entirely separate country, neighbors allied with Prydain but separate from it.

So although Gwydion might have jumped at the chance to court Angharad, he wouldn’t have had a prayer as suitor. His magic with the flaming grass would have been considered a parlor trick by these powerful enchantresses; furthermore the Queens of Llyr were invested in preserving their own culture and customs and had no interest in uniting their house with the Sons of Don and blending their queendom with their patriarchal neighbors. So there would have been practical objections; Gwydion would have had to abdicate his throne to go and be a mere consort to the Queen and that wasn’t happening.

But also - to his disappointment, Angharad just wasn’t into him. They had a friendly relationship of mutual respect, but no passion on her part. So then once word came that Llyr had fallen just after Angharad eloped with some title-less nobody, it hit him hard. He’s never gotten over it, and he’s constantly thought about her and wondered what happened to her and the rest of the country.

Poor man. No wonder Achren kept trying to seduce him.

fun fact i also draw sometimes. cringe is dead, here's my rdr2 oc - dr morde groves. groves is a banker, accountant and money lender located in valentine. in typical valentine's fashion, he is the bookkeeper for the o'driscolls and wears green so the gang (which he views as a pest species) don't bother him out riding. his horse is a 12 year old greyed out steel grey brenton named eucalypt.

starting chapter 4, there would be a random encounter mission where arthur finds black belle (assuming her photograph has been taken) walking along the roadside after her horse has been killed escaping bounty hunters. she asks to be taken to valentine and introduces dr groves as maude, who corrects it is morde* nowdays, as one of her former fellow gang members who got scared and abandoned outlawing after the shootout that took out the rest of the Colter Tobin gang. after some back and forth bickering, morde agrees to help black belle financially if arthur is able to assist him with his business. he is a money lender, after all, and his clients can be difficult to reach. arthur writes a very bitter journal entry about being in the whim of another usurer.

except the missions are actually... giving people money. a young pregnant girl on her own trying to get out of town before her parents can send her to an unwed woman's home, an elderly woman struggling to live alone after the death of her husband, and finally culminates in a young woman (definitely not eliza's model) trying to escape her abusive husband with her five year old son. arthur gets the option to murder the husband. in the final mission, black belle is off on a new horse to resume her outlawing ways, and morde offers arthur ongoing, legal work if he ever wanted an out of the gang, which of course arthur refuses. morde looks slightly disheartened but wishes him luck

if at any point between the missions morde is looted, similar to how you can still rob or shoot any of the storeowners and they just respawn with head injuries, you can get a collectable 'letter to irish', which is a cryptid letter trying to warn kieran that the o'driscolls were very aware and very angry that he was riding with the VDLs and would 'seek to have their debt repaid', both encouraging and offering to help him escape to california. it ends with a line hoping the daughter of llyr is doing well with his new companions, to make it clear the letter was definitely meant for kieran. unfortunately, it was never sent, and kieran couldn't read anyway.

in chapter 6 and onwards, a horse identical to branwen can be found tied beside eucalypt on the street

Aine - (AN-yuh) Goddess of love, summer, sovereignty. Some said she was the daughter of Manannan, some said she was the Morrigan herself. Aine is very vengeful, and offending her is not wise.

Amaethon - God of agriculture, animal husbandry. Enemy of Arawn. Brother of Gwydion and Arianrhod.

Arawn - God of the dead, hunting, revenge. King of the underworld. Enemy of Amaethon. Possessed a magical cauldron of regeneration. Possesses many hounds who hunt for the souls of the dead.

Arianrhod - Goddess of beauty, fertility, reincarnation, the sky, weaving, enchantment. Keeper of the circling "silver wheel" of stars, a symbol of time and karma. Sister of Amaethon and Gwyddion.

Blodeuwedd - Goddess of flowers, lunar mysteries, wisdom.  She was created from flowers by Math and Gwydion as a wife for the god Lleu. Gwydion later turned her into an owl for killing her husband.

Brigit - Goddess of fire, healing, motherhood, agriculture, inspiration, learning, divination, poetry, prophecy, the forge.  An  ever-burning fire is kept in her honor by nineteen priestesses. Imbolc is sacred to her. Sometimes considered a triple goddess: the Three Mothers. Also known as Brighid.

Cailleach - Goddess of disease, plague, sorcery. A hag, strongly associated with the crone aspect of triple goddesses. The goddess of winter, she brings snow until Brigit (spring) turns her to stone each year. The name means "veiled one."

Cernunnos - God of the hunt, animals, fertility, warriors, nature, commerce, love, the underworld. Known as "the Horned God." Stags are sacred to him.

Cerridwen - Goddess of enchantment, death, initiation, wisdom, inspiration, regeneration, dark prophecy. Moon Goddess, Great Mother and Grain Goddess. She brewed a magical potion of wisdom in her cauldron and forced the young Taliesin to stir it for a year and a day. When he accidentally swallowed the last three drops, he was transformed into a bard and grew very wise. Welsh bards once called themselves Cerddorion "sons of Cerridwen."

Dagda, The - God of the arts, knowledge, magic, music, prophecy, prosperity, regeneration, fatherhood, protection. Known as the "Good God" and "Lord of the Heavens," he succeeded Nuada as high king of the Tuatha De Danann.

Danu - Goddess of the elements (particularly water), magic, wisdom, the earth, cattle. Mother of the Tuatha De Danann, she is the most prominent mother goddess.

Diancecht- God of healing. Crafted a magical well which would resurrect to life anyone thrown into it, although the Fomorians filled it with stones. Had a son named Miach and a daughter named Airmed. See "Herbalism, the Legend."

Druantia - Goddess of fir trees, passion, protection, knowledge, creativity. Queen of the Druids and creator of the moon calendar. Often associated with motherhood.

Epona - Goddess of healing, prosperity, maternity. Protector of horses. Strongly associated with fertility.

Goibniu - God of the forge, brewing, thunder. Smith of the Tuatha De Danann, his weapons could not miss and were always fatal. His brew made the Tuatha De Danann invincible and healed all illnesses.

Gwyddion - God of enchantment, illusion, magic, music, shapeshifting, learning. Sometimes called the Druid of the Gods due to his interests. Brother of Amaethon and Arianrhod.

Gwynn ap Nudd - God of war, death, fallen warriors, the hunt. King of the Sidhe and the Otherworld.

Llyr - God of sea, water, the underworld. Father of Mannanan, who is generally considered more prominent. Also known as Lir.

Lugh - (Loo) Sun god of all crafts, the arts, healing, journeys, prophecy. His skills were without end, and they won him a spot in the Tuatha De Danann. He had a magic spear and otherworldly hounds. Lughnasadh is held in his honor. There are many tales about Lugh's exploits.

Manannan - God of the sea, weather, underworld. Son of Llyr. Shapeshifter. Separated the worlds of humans and faeries.

Morrigan, The - A shapeshifting goddess of magic, prophecy, revenge, war, death. Known as "Great Queen" and "Specter Queen," she often takes the form of a crow. Sometimes considered to be a Triple Goddess, her aspects are listed below.

   Nemain - Maiden. Known as "venomous" or "havoc," she can

      create hatred where there was none.

   Macha - Mother. Known as "battle," associated with horses,

      cunning, and protectors.

   Badb (Bibe) - Crone. Known as "fury," "battle crow," and

      "boiling," she confused warriors to increase slaughter.

Niamh - (Nee-av) Name means "radiance" or "brightness." Daughter of the sea god Manannan, she rode a white horse which could walk across the seas. See "Niamh's Story" for more information.

Nuada - (Noo-ada) God of harpers, healing, historians, magic, poets, warfare, writing. King of the Tuatha De Danann at one time, he had to step down when he lost his hand in battle; it was replaced by a silver one by Diancecht then one made of flesh by Diancecht's son Miach.

Ogma - God of eloquence, inspiration, language, magic, music, physical strength, poets, writers. Invented the Ogham rune alphabet and carried a huge club.

Taliesin - God of magic, music, poetry, wisdom, writing. Known as Prince of Song, Chief of the Bards of the West, and Patron of Druids, he was a great magician, bard, and shapeshifter who gained his wisdom from a potion brewed by Cerridwen.

The Houses of the Mabinogi

The Houses of Dôn and Llyr are connected by marriage through Llyr's wife, Penarddun but are diverse in their stories and personalities.

Dôn collage to the bottom left, Llyr collage to the bottom right.

The House of Dôn, apart from the mother goddess herself, boasts two powerful magicians: Math and Gwydion. Also the Goddess of the Wheel of the Year, Arianhod, and her estranged son Lleu Llaw Gyffes are popular characters of this house. The children of Dôn also include Amaethon, the god of agriculture and who started the 'Cad Goddeu' or Battle of the Trees, where all the children declared war against Arawn, King of Annwn. They only won due to Gwydion's expert wizardy with his summoning of a tree army. Finally, the grandson of Dôn, Gwyn, son of Nudd, is popular in Welsh folklore as the king of the Tylwyth Teg (fairy-folk) and leader of the Wild Hunt.

The House of Llyr is smaller in sized but full of tragedy.

Llyr has two sons and one daughter, Branwen. She gets betrothed to the King of Ireland, Matholwch. On return to ireland though, she gets forced into the kitchens. After hearing of his sisters plight, Bran the Blessed, a giant and the King of Britain, wades across the Irish Sea with an army of Welshmen, including his brother and trusted advisor Manawydan. After the tragic death of Branwen's son Gwern, the Welsh and Irish fight until no-one is left but Bran, Branwen, Manawydan and six Welshmen. Unfortunately, Bran finds a poison arrow in his leg and as he is dying, asks Manawydan to cut off his head and take it back to Wales. Upon their return, Branwen dies of a broken heart from her brother and sons death.

Elliott sat down in the armchair and wrapped the blanket around himself again.

He was scared.

Her temperature was high but not high enough to call Harvey again. He had given her medicine. So far she hadn’t spit up the latest bottle yet. Of what little she had been willing to drink. She would probably be okay. But it was so hard to deal with this. It was bad enough when Robert was sick but Ayleen! Ayleen! His sweet baby girl…

He felt so helpless…

He curled back up and tried to will himself to be okay. Whatever his girl needed, he would be here. She would be okay. She would definitely be. Okay.

Robert woke up too early. The clock told him it wasn’t even 5 am yet.

He sighed and got up, too antsy to keep lying here. Elliott had insisted he go to sleep, given he couldn’t really take breaks from keeping the farm running. But he’d felt guilty and worried and finding sleep had been no easy errand. He had startled anytime Ayleen had made noises, worried if she was okay. He knew Elliott was with her and would do anything he could for her. But he felt like his heart physically tried to drag him to her anytime he heard her cry out.

He got dressed quickly and went downstairs to check on them.

Ayleen was breathing okay. He couldn’t see her face well in the dark, but her breathing sounded stable and she was still lying on her back. Good! He wanted to touch her, but he worried she would wake up if he did. He tiptoed over to his husband who immediately startled awake, despite his efforts to be quiet.

“Hey. Sorry, didn’t mean to wake you.” He tried to whisper as quietly as possibly.

Elliott relaxed again, sighing. “’S okay.”

Robert pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Need anything?”

“mh-mh.” He indicated negative.

“Okay.” He squeezed his hand, then tip toed away again.

Robert shredded the chicken meat and put it aside, then checked how the broth was doing. He sipped a little bit of it, added more lemongrass and decided it needed to stew a little bit longer before he would add the chicken to it.

He cut up some fresh herbs to go with it, then started preparing a tray…

“Guh…”

Robert turned and went over to his child a moment. “Hey you. Woke up again, huh?” He gently took her hand for a moment, and smiled at her little pink face, then let go again. Much to their relief, after two weeks of back-and-forth her fever had finally gone down again in the past few days. She was still cranky and not very hungry but her color and general well-being had improved so much…

Robert tried the broth again, then added in the chicken and some herbs, putting a lid back on to let it simmer another two minutes.

Elliott lumbered into the kitchen. “It smells tasty.”

Robert smiled, turning back to him. “Hey. I was going to bring you some when it’s ready.”

Elliott briefly hugged him, then sat down. “’S okay. I’m good to eat here.”

“Guess this means your appetite is returning. I’m glad.”

“Mhmh. My temperature is almost normal again.”

Robert sighed in relief. He usually dealt with sickness around him okay, but the way Elliott had continuously cared for their daughter the first week, staying up almost every night with her before falling sick himself, had made him feel guilty and gnawed on him. It had made it harder to be okay.

“Well. That is a relief. I hope the soup will do you good.” He cut up a lime and drizzled it into the stew, then turned off the heat and put the pot on the table.

“It does smell delicious, darling.”

Robert smiled and was just about to ladle out soup for both of them when the phone rang. He groaned. “Eat. I’ll get it.”

“Llyr farm, who’s disturbing my lunch break?”

“Oh Robert, that is really no way to answer the phone.”

“Yes, it is. Hi Mum. The greeting makes clear that whoever is calling has gotten a hold of me but is, in fact, disturbing me, and should maybe call me back at a later time.”

“Now that is just impolite. I wanted to ask about Christmas this year.”

“Uhm… I…” He thought about Christmas. Did he want to go to the city with an 8-month-old, be annoyed and stressed and mostly miserable? Or did he want to stay home and maybe actually set up a tree with Elliott and be comfortable and…

“I don’t think we’re going to make it. Sorry.”

“But Robert, that is the second year in a row. Really, I barely see you and you barely call!”

He sighed. “Mum. I am sorry. But we live far away, I have a very busy job and honestly, coming to the city is really stressful. And the last time I called you, you didn’t have time.”

“Well, that is no excuse! Your cousin Judith also has quite a way to come here and she comes by regularly.”

He felt the anger boil up in him again. He had a sick child and husband around and she had called him during lunch break and-

He took a deep breath. The whole thing was annoying as hell but he should really finally tell her-

“Ooh, I have someone at the door, hold on, deary!”

Robert stared at the phone, dumbfounded. He had just made up his mind about finally telling her and now-

“It’s Kathleen from across the hall, she needs my help at the bake sale after all so I have to go!”

“Uh. Okay, but mum I-”

“Bye!”

He put down the phone and let out a long groan. He had just. Tried. To tell her. And YET.

He harrumphed and went back to the kitchen where his husband was sleepily staring at him. “Mmmh? Couldn’t get a word in?”

“No.” He sighed and sat down. “You should have eaten. It’s best when it’s hot.”

“You weren’t gone long; it should still be hot.”

Robert smiled, then put out soup for both of them. He was about to put out rice when Elliott took his bowl in hands and sipped a little bit of the broth. He let out a long, warm sigh, then sipped more of it. “...mmmmh...yes.”

Robert smiled. “Don’t you want rice with it?”

“In a moment… but the ginger...the broth...I can feel it just… being good for me.”

Robert felt lighter again, hearing it. “I’m so glad.”

Pinocchio, Son of Geppetto - Innocent. Always believes the best in people. Loves school, once he goes. Does lots of carving and painting. Really good friend. Still pretty gullible but he's learning.

The voices rang in her head, insistent; she could barely think around them. “That’s not true.”

That blade-smile flashed in the dusk. “Eilonwy of Llyr.” How could her own name sound so much like a taunt? “Daughter of Angharad. Daughter of Regat. Daughter of Mererid. Daughter of Morgana...”

“Stop.”

“Daughter of Ceinwen. Daughter of Glesni. Daughter of Eleri...”

“Stop it!” She crushed her hands over her ears, but now the voices had taken up the recitation, chanting one name after another, names flowing like the blood in her veins passed down from this relentless line of queens, carved into her ears as though she were the monument upon which their memory depended.

i Heard that Eilonwy is the daughter of a human king (Geraint) and a witch (Angharad) in the books! so... got any Hc About Princess Eilonwy being a witch in Auradon ?

She and Alexander can study magic together!

She is really focused on Llyr's magic history. She studies so much.

She probably is mostly focused on how magic can help rebuild Llyr as opposed to granting wishes.

The library at Auradon Prep doesn't have much in the way of using magic but there is a lot about it's history and cultural impact

She can understand some of the rationale behind regulating magic but she gets INTO debating the methods

She likes talking to other magic kids.

She mostly focuses on the forests and water so she can help Llyr

She's curious about mermaids and fairies now

She wishes she could ask her mother about magic. It sucks that she's gone.

She totally uses it to show off to Alexander.

Since the second Llyr household contained Coyote's daughter by Loki, Crow, and Ailill's son by Medb, Cormac, I figured it was time for them to have a kid together, and this kid turned out to be Salmon.

Meanwhile, Medb has yet another boy, this one by Loki (triple bolts, of course she was tapping that), Oisin, and Bran grow up looking like his dad.

Some character sketches for my current comicbook projet! (working title: Ellis and the daughter of the Sea)

Ellis is a 19-years-old non-binary person who lives in a not-so-accepting village. Their parents (Noah and Jenny) have issues coming to terms with their child's identity, resulting in tensions in the family. Ellis is quiet and lonely and they don't dare make a stand for themselves, until they meet Morveren, daughter of the Sea King Llyr. Morveren will show them that they can be accepted and loved for who they are, without having to hide or pretend.

I'll post more sketches for this project in the future, I hope you'll like them!

EILONWY PELYDRYN is thirty-four years old. She is a psychologist and Paediatric Doctor at Redwood Hospital. She is the incarnation of Princess Eilonwy from the Disney film The Black Cauldron.

ABOUT EILONWY

Eilonwy Pelydryn is a thirty-three-year-old psychologist and paediatric doctor at Redwood Hollow hospital. She was originally born in a town called Llyr. Her father was the town mayor and had worked his way up to senator, which had caught the attention of the underbelly of the town. Her father was a crooked man who had been taking bribes along with carrying out other crimes. They had issues with her father’s campaign of cleaning up the town when he’d actively been a part of destroying it, as well as his actions over the years he was in office in town as well as his time as a senator. So they decided to take their own action. Their action was to take away the golden child and the light of her father’s life. That resulted in the kidnapping of his ten-year-old daughter, Eilonwy. A nationwide hunt went on for Eilonwy while she was held captive, and this went on for six years before she was released. By then the damage was already done. Her father had gone mad and done everything he could to find her. His career was in tatters after his actions to find his child, and all the skeletons were exposed from his closet during that time. Eilonwy being released only solidified her father’s defeat and rubbed salt in his wounds. As happy as he was to have his daughter home, she was a painful reminder of how far he’d fallen. As for their relationship, too big a gap had been built between them, and they have never been able to mend it, even to this day. Once Eilonwy was released, she was homeschooled for fear of letting her out of sight. Time had passed and eventually she was allowed to go to college and university. Eilonwy earned her degrees in psychology and medicine with a focus on paediatrics, and moved to Redwood Hollow for a fresh start and to get away from her dad and his security teams for some freedom. She now resides in the town and works in Redwood Hollow Hospital. There’s no doubt about it that Eilonwy is a brave woman after everything she’s been through, however, she remains completely guarded in fear of letting the wrong person in.
