Vaucluse, in the southern French region of Provence, was the final home of the Italian poet Petrarch, one of the first great Renaissance writers. In 1841, on his second European tour, Thomas Cole memorialized Petrarch's home in this grandiose canvas, worked up in Rome from sketches done on-site. Once in the studio, he exaggerated the scale of the cliffs in this scene to magnify the drama, and he reconstructed Petrarch's castle, which in actuality lay in ruins. Although he founded the Hudson River school, the group of loosely affiliated American artists who took inspiration from the natural landscapes outside of the northeastern urban centers, Cole also painted several European scenes such as this one.

This is a difficult announcement to have to write, and one we’d have hoped we’d never need to, but it is with a heavy heart we in Los Campesinos! need to announce the forthcoming departure of Aleks Campesinos! from our number.

After three years of LC!, in an incredible journey that has gone from inaudible student union side room gigs to playing infront of thousands in Caracas city centre; Aleks is now, as she always intended, departing the band in order to return to her studies.

In many ways, it would be great if there had been some falling out in the band and that Aleks couldn’t bear to tour with us anymore, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. We’re all better, closer friends now than we’ve ever been, and this makes the decision tougher on both Aleks, and the other six of us. We’ve always been very pragmatic when thinking about the future for Los Campesinos!, and it is at this point that Aleks has decided her future does not reside in flogging this LC! nonsense any  longer. Though she will remain a Campesinos! for eternity. There’s no escaping that.

It shouldn’t need saying, and perhaps it almost seems insensitive, but it’s inevitable news of this nature will cause tongues to wag, so it’s best to confirm that Los Campesinos! will continue as a band, stronger and more united than ever. Though this news is being announced only now, it’s something we as a band have been aware of, and preparing for, for the past year. The individual joining the band to take on Aleks’ duties, and more, has been a friend of the band for a long time and though we are understandably maudlin, nay, heartbroken, this is coupled with a great excitement for what we intend to go on and achieve in the near and distant future.

In the meantime, we are finishing up Aleks’ final record with the band, and can announce her final LC! shows – a US Tour, taking place in August. Taking in our biggest indoor shows to date, as well as a happy return to the site of our first US show (Lollapalooza), we navigate parts of America previously unchartered by us, before Aleks’ very last shows come with a weekend in the California sun.

The girl will go out in fucking style; we will make completely sure of that.

Fans may start lining up on the day of the event on February 1st at 10am.

Overnight camping will not be permitted.

At 10am, staff will hand out numbered wristbands that will dictate the order in which fans will enter the venue once doors open at 7pm.

Fans are allowed to leave the line once they receive their numbered wristband, but must return and be in the correct order by 7pm.

Staff will be onsite to oversee the line-up process and will do their best to ensure an orderly entry.

Tents will not be allowed on the property. Guests may use blankets and chairs during the line-up process, but cannot be brought inside the venue at the time of the show.

Starting at 10am, fans may begin parking in the South Side Ballroom designated back parking lot for a fee of $15 per vehicle. Due to large crowds and high traffic, be sure to leave early and give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the venue.

This week, the duo (Jesse Henderson and David Parry) released the third single "No Mast." The shimmery track spans just about 3 minutes long and will have listeners in a warm tizzy. From the melodic strums of the guitar to the soft murmurs of the vocals, "No Mast" has a grounding sway that'll warm you up like hot cup of tea in the middle of winter. The song comes to us from Henderson's reading of James Hollis’ The Eden Project: In Search of the Magical Other. “I found this book all beat up and tucked under the couch in the studio,” explains Henderson. “It offers an insightful critique of romantic love and the psychological forces that shape the way we love, or fail to. Day: 3 Entry: 1 Drinking from the well of Nostalgia.

When drinking from the well of Nostalgia one must be careful.

You can drink cups full and nourish your thirst and have it sustain you as needed.

You can pour buckets of it over your head which is messy but not dangerous.

Or you can fall into it and drown as it overwhelms you and soon everything is lost.

This Heal or Heartbreak Tour has been all about nostalgia and introducing those from my past to the me of today.

The sips started as I looked out at the Las Vegas Strip when the plane was landing.

The sips turned into gulps at being back in San Diego and the places I grew at.

Luckily I caught me breath visiting Craig and Lynda as it brought me back to speed with today.

But soon it was back to way too much water way too fast.

I visited the site of Cyndi, the love of my life, and I's first official date.

The was formerly the site of a TGI Fridays restaurant.

I chose that particular place because I wanted to impress her. LOL.

Looking back maybe some other place would have been better, but it worked out anyways.

Since I arrived on the this trip I've been good about keeping my emotions in check (well...mostly) with no major outbursts.

The next stop really hit me hard and started the waterworks flowing. Fueled by tears from the waters of the well of Nostalgia.

This was our first apartment togather. On Rose Ave in Escondido, a short bus ride away from the mall where we both worked. We moved here in August of 1984 after a turbulent series of dates and breakups.

She just wasn't sure about me. So she left and came back a couple of times.

I waited for her. I knew she'd come back. I was right. (A belief I still cling to)

We started with nothing. Her bed from home, some donated peices of furniture and milk crates for tables.

But we were happy.

We got our first cat. Shadow an all black long haired cat that really wasn't allowed. But we got him anyways.

I loved waking up to her beautiful face each morning.

We bought our first car togther (A Hyundai hatch back) and worked hard to make things better.

Seeing this, as well as everything else over the last 2 days suddenly overwhelmed me and I completely lost it.

Tears and ugly face crying enveloped me as I pulled away.

It didn't stop until I reached Temecula. Not because I was finished but because I ran out of tears. I had cried myself dry.

By the time I checked into the Luxor Las Vegas I was somewhat composed.

The Luxor was a favorite of ours. We were there for its opening night and stayed there when we got married in 1995.

We finally got married 10 years after we moved in together. It was after learning she was pregnant with Cameron we decided to tie the knot.

We planed a trip from Dallas, TX where we were living and it worked out that we got married on Halloween night 1995.

Craig and Lynda were the only ones to fly out for the ceremony.

We got married at the Chapel of the Bells in a nice ceremony. It's still there to this day!

Craig and Lynda took us out to Spagos restaurant to celebrate. Our first truly fancy meal.

With the first part of my trip now complete it only gets far more difficult.

Utah is waiting just down the road.

And I'm looking down that deep well of Nostalgia and bent so far over the edge mesmerized by the sparkling of the water I'm loosing my balance.

God help me.

Chicago-via-Madison quartet Slow Pulp released their newest offering "Doubt" this week. The single is lifted from their upcoming record Yard, which is set to release on September 29 via ANTI-. The laidback indie track spans just under 2.5 minutes long and the lush instrumentals add the perfect touch of summer. While the lyrics tackle self-doubt and looking to others to validate our own insecurities, the instrumental brings a brightness that pairs uniquely well.

“In my process to fight against self-deprecation, I found this strange new pattern popping up where I fished for critiques from others,” says lead singer Emily Massey. “I wanted people close to me to validate the things I hated about myself. Self-doubt had found a home in me, it felt safer to stay in this familiar negative space than to like myself. I thought if others shared that with me I wouldn’t have to do the work to change.”
