Imagine for angels, the longer they stay out of Heaven, the less colorful their wings become. If an angel stays for years away, their magnificent pearly white feathers slowly gray, brown and start to mottle black. The further they stray from their realm, they gradually lose their grace.
Soon, if they are gone for years, if not centuries, white is absent, leaving behind sooty black and browns, and their right to return home.

Usiel: Do you know arachic Latin?
Archon Lucien: I got bored with classical Latin.
Usiel: You know normal Latin?!
Archon Lucien: Yes. Someone from my knitting club taught me.
Usiel: You have a knitting club?!
Archon Lucien: You don’t know anything about me. Now, do you want a sweater or a scarf?

Note
The reason why Usiel is so shiny is because someone pranked him with a glitter bomb and he still struggles to clean up leftover glitter.
Usiel: You can't look directly at me.
Human: Because I'll go mad if I see your true form?
Usiel: No, because of my lens flare.

Me, seeing a man who is triple my size and commands an army: ok, but.... What if he was a baby? Just a little guy? With footie pajamas and a binky? What if he had a little plushie? That he has little games with? What then?

Should I make my Darksiders S/Is friends, siblings, or strangers to each other?
Like, I was planning for my War and Uriel s/i, Vivian, to be friends with my s/i for Fury and Death, who are cousins (the s/is). And then Ash, my s/i for Usiel, is siblings to my Strife s/i.
And then I have my Samael s/i to make too.

Ryu Number Chart Update: Darksiders
Here's a potential puzzler for you. Is Death death? (Stick with me for a moment here, okay?)
For some context, in the Darksiders franchise, Death—one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—is a major character. Most media where the Horsemen are a Thing tend to have Death (the horsemen) be the same character as the general personification of death, just specifically doing the Horseman thing at the moment. Good Omens goes with this interpretation, if I remember Good Omens right, which I very much might not. It's been a while.
In Darksiders, however, the Four Horsemen are, uh, cosmologically complicated. Specifically, they're Nephilim—fusions of demons and angels yes I know that's not what nephilim are supposed to be I didn't make this game—who rebelled against the Charred Council (a mysterious body who nebulously keep the balance somehow; it's really not clear) and were in turn eradicated by the only four nephilim who sided with the Council. These four became the Horsemen, and were subsequently sent out as the Council's underlings whenever a Real Big Issue required that sort of response. In the four games in the Darksiders series, there's approximately one line that could maybe with some creativity and also if you looked at it sideways be interpreted as the Horseman Death being also Death in general, but... Nah, I dunno, man.
Anyway, that's why "Death/Grim Reaper" and "Death (Horseman)" now have their own respective points in The Chart. Don't at me.
Not being able to use the Grim Reaper skin from Minecraft to hop between Ryu and whichever Darksiders character you want is a bummer, admittedly.
Luckily, Lilith is a Marvel character.
Tumblr media
(That's her in the background. That's her at the bar. Side. Losing her religion.)
Tumblr media
Funny thing—Usiel (often seen spelled "Uziel" or "Uzziel") is usually depicted as either a fallen angel, or a demon. There are a few sources that put him on the side of being a good'un, though, so this portrayal is cromulent enough. I mean, as cromulent as anything from Darksiders can be in relation to varying and contradictory Judeo-Christian tradition.
(Per game lore, a bunch of pseudo-Celtic-Norsey Old Ones are hanging out in a side dimension or something. I dunno, man. Darksiders II was weird.)
Lilith appears in Darksiders II and Darksiders III, which is nice if you're trying to reach a character from Darksiders II and Darksiders III, but less so if you're working with the original Darksiders or Darksiders Genesis.
That's alright, though. Turns out the Four Horsemen are up and summonable in Scribblenauts Unlimited:
Tumblr media
... Y'know, I really do think there ought to be a quicker path to Azrael that exists somewhere in the Wide Wide World Of Video Games, but if there is, it's not on The Chart at the moment, so it doesn't exist. Don't at me.
Or actually, do at me. Then I can put that game on The Chart, too, if it doesn't give my arbitrary taxonomy a tummyache.
Incidentally, because I read up on angels a whole lot going through these games and if I can't Show My Work on my own blog where else am I gonna do it: Here's a Thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Now, hold on a tick," I hear you say. "What are Moloch, Astarte, and Dagon doing in this game as Lucifer's mooks? Astarte wasn't a demon; she was a goddess in Ancient Near East religion, sometimes considered the equivalent of Ishtar! And Dagon wasn't a demon; he was an ancient Syrian god of prosperity! And Moloch... well, actually, nowadays people don't think Moloch was even a Thing, but he was traditionally interpreted to be a Canaanite god associated with child sacrifice! Excuse the pun, but what the Hell's going on?"
You might assume that some Final-Fantasy-style hinkiness is afoot—that the creators of Darksiders Genesis named their characters after mythological figures that are thematically similar but ultimately unrelated (go on, try to convince me that any incarnation of Final Fantasy's Leviathan is the same one from the Book of Job) (Please do not actually do this)—but it turns out we can heap the blame on one dude in particular: John Milton.
That's right, it's all Paradise Lost's fault. Turns out that according to Miltonic lore, Moloch, Astarte, and Dagon were originally angels, but then joined with Satan in his rebellion, fell, and subsequently played as gods to deceive mankind. Now, is it a little iffy that Milton took a bunch of non-Christian deities and went "yeah, these were demons all along"?
Most def. He was following in well-established Christian tradition, though. Ba'al-Zebub was a deity of the Philistines, while Belphegor comes from the deity worshipped by Moabites at the mountain peak of Peor, biblically referred to as "Ba'al-pe'or." Astaroth is another one that comes from Astarte. And of course, the less said about Baphomet, the better.
All of this is a long-winded way of saying that no, I'm not counting this Dagon as the Syrian one. Or the Lovecraftian one, for that matter.
Don't at me.

I get it, you’re surrounded by enemies
but I literally just saved your leader from becoming a lust-possessed zombie.

This is Usiel!
Tumblr media
He is one of the commanders of heaven in Darksiders! He uses that bell as a weapon and is an honorable leader! However, his fellow angels abandoned him and his army on Earth, so he strikes an allegiance with one Fury, one of the Horsemen of the apocalypse, and she defeated Lust, protecting Usiel and the remainder of his army from the army of undead Lust summoned!
Reblog game: Pokemon Starters!

Decided to draw Fury and Usiel this time around for Darksiderstober 2022, for Day 16 "Alliance.". I admit for an angel, he was the most humble and cared a great deal about the men under his command, and Fury will never admit it, but I'm sure she would find that admirable. Hence why she doesn't deny outright an alliance with him. Hope ya like, Prompts are here , and stay tuned
Art is mine
Fury and Usiel belong to Darksiders universe

As an aside to my shit posting this night lmao
Can we talk about how fucking stupid Usiel is????
This mfer warns Fury about Lust, has been fighting against them for a long ass time, tries to help Fury take them down... And still gets manipulated????!!!!
This dumbass was so easily manipulated by two damn sentences, its no wonder he ended up in a bog with only a handful of Hell guard vs Uriel and her army of them. This guy chose to aid a demon he'd been against over helping the Horseman trying to help his stupid ass?! As if she didn't have the power to slaughter him?!
The angels in this series are kinda notorious for dumb choices (Azrael, Abbadon, Lucien to name a couple), but this is was by far one of the dumbest choices Usiel could have made like wtf, guy???
I get he was desperate, but even he knows helping Lust and dealing with them was a bad idea.

Fury: Usiel??
Usiel: That depends, what desires are we talking about?
Lust: All the glory and restoration of your troops!

Being a Horseman isn't easy. The Four, even after the fall of the Charred Council, still have plenty of enemies. Fury found out the hard way when a relatively easy mission turned into a deathtrap.
But sometimes, choices we make can have consequences that return to us in moments we wouldn't expect. By his honor and the promise he'd made a long time ago, archangel Usiel returns the favor, pulling the Black Rider out from the claws of Hell's minions. How he knew, she would need his aid, is a mystery..
"Life for life, Fury. Like I promised you."
Tumblr media
Like @another-darksiders-blog suggested, no Hollow for Fury's hair :D
I cannot believe I hadn't drawn this sooner. Just kidding, without my tablet I would sooner open an umbrella in my butt than paint this on Gimp XDD
Also, don't worry. Fury will be fine in no time. It's noting a healing shard can't fix. I'd rather worry for the guys who tried to stop Usiel from getting to her 😂

Some of this is still up to change, so don't get too attached to certain s/i names or designs!
So these are my current roster of Darksiders S/Is.
Tumblr media
This is Vivian, she is the s/i for War and Uriel. War finds her first during the destruction. Luckily, she was able to escape, though she came back, determined to find her friends. War had to save her from a Trauma. Later on Uriel meets her, and they talk about what is happening. Uriel starts to fall for her quickly, and when War is no longer imprisoned, they argue with each other over who deserves Vivian more, because they keep claiming the other deserves her. She shuts them up by kissing them and telling them that they both deserved her, and each other.
Tumblr media
This Danni is the one for Fury! They're one of Vivian's friends, and they got lost from her during the initial destruction. Separated from their friends, they try to make their way to the Maker's Tree, but gets trapped along the way by a Suffering and its group of Swarm. Luckily, Fury kills said creature and gets them safely to the Maker's Tree. However, they always try to show their appreciation for Fury, by sneaking outside the tree and finding items for her on her quest. This appreciation quickly turns into them crushing on Fury.
Tumblr media
This is Kai! He is the s/i for Death! He is a bit shy and aloof, unless he's with his friends. He's also semi-nonverbal. Under extreme stress, he struggles to speak, which was a bit of a problem for Death. They actually met because Kai had to throw rocks just to get Death's attention. He knows some sign language, too bad Death didn't. Death does manage to get them to safety, but not without some neon green lipstick on his mask.
Tumblr media
This is Kiran! I don't have a pronoun set for em, but this is the one for Strife! Their still under some construction, so the design might not stay. They wound up close to the Scar. They were one that Fury saved, where they met Jones. They grew to look forward to the strange, yet nice man. This grew into them falling in love with Jones, and then finding out he's actually Strife. They still love him though.
Tumblr media
This is Ash! They are the s/i for Usiel! I've gone on many records on their background with Usiel, but a small summary, they were stuck in the Bonelands. After getting caught by some of Lust's army, they were saved by some of Usiel's men, before getting taken back to the main base he uses. They didn't have much choice but stay there, until either Lust was destroyed or Usiel could actually regroup his men and get everyone out of the Bonelands. This leads to them being around each other for several weeks, where they started to grow fonder and fonder with each other. Later, Fury comes in, and although his men were against it, he knew Ash would be safer in the care of the Makers. Which was true. However, he made a deal with Ash, that him and his men would come back to them when they could, and Ash gave him a little kiss on his cheek. Later on, when the Earth is finally safe, they watch the Horsemen with all their lovers, but they didn't have access to Usiel. This leads to them being jealous of the group, especially of Vivian, because why does she get to still have Uriel, but Ash couldn't get to Usiel? Well, his army steps in and kidnaps Ash, because they were fed up with Usiel dancing around seeing them. When the army brings them to the White City, and sets them down in front of a stunned Usiel, he didn't get a word out before they threw themselves at him and kisses him.
Tumblr media
This is Miriam! I don't have lore on them yet, but this is a design for my Samael s/i! I'm thinking on giving them a demon form too, I just haven't decided yet.
