Chapter Nine - It Feels Right
Chapter Nine - It Feels Right
—-
“Mom! Mom, mom!” you shout, running through the house, the warm brown wooden floor, the hallway carpet slipping under your feet. There’s this smile on your face. The one that can only come as a child.
You read once that children’s laughter is an actual medicine.
“Mom!” you shout again, thinking back to months ago, before that big project came up, when she would be here and home, waiting for you everyday.
The house is empty.
You burst into the kitchen through the swinging door, looking around excitedly past the yellow and green marbled countertop, the dark brown cabinets, but no one’s there.
“Mom?” you say once more, but it sounds like a question.
The english paper with a smiley face and a circled 100 drops to the floor.
“Hey, baby,” someone says, and you whip around, only to see your father sitting behind the kitchen table. You smile wide.
“Dad!” you say, bending down to pick up the paper- but something like pennies hits your nose. “Did you burn something?” you ask, pennies and burning wood filling the air.
Something drips onto the hardwood.
You look towards your dad, under the table to his feet.
“What are you looking at?” he chuckles, and you suddenly remember that your dad hasn’t been home in weeks.
All his clothes, all the pictures, everything has been taken down and put in storage. Maybe to burn one day, to sell, or maybe for you to look at.
You look towards his chair, and a pool of blood surrounds him. Comes from him.
You stand back up on shaky feet, your face flushed from being bent over for so long.
“You’re dead.”
“What?” he laughs, and it sounds like your father. “Of course I’m not, sweetheart. I’m right here.”
“You’re bleeding, though. And you’re gone. From me, from this house.”
You step forward.
A chainsaw sticks out of his stomach, suddenly coming into view now, the table disappearing.
“Oh? This old thing?” he laughs, affectionally patting the small orange box with the mechanics inside it.
His laughing turns to screaming.
The sound of a chainsaw comes from somewhere, but when you look around, you can’t find it.
You can’t cry. Can’t move. Can’t do anything but sit here and let him scream and die all over again.
“Does it hurt?” you finally whisper during a lull in the screaming.
He turns to you.
“It’s just like us,” he says.
—-
When Natalie wakes up, panting, you’ve already been up for an hour. Trying in vain to fall back asleep. Too afraid to move.
She sits up, not even noticing you’re there, breathing shakily.
Her eyes fix on something behind you.
“Lottie,” she whispers, slipping out of the blanket, looking down to where you’re wide awake. “Y/N.”
“What’s wrong?” you ask, sitting up yourself. Her eyes flick back to behind you.
When you turn around, Lottie is sitting up, staring at the entrance to the attic.
You had found him yesterday, just bones and the remnants of clothes, and a shotgun in his hand.
You kept wondering if the trees heard the sound of the gunshot. If the animals did. Did they run away from the cabin? Or did they already know to stay clear of here? Did the plants bow down and ripple in the wind?
Did anything care that he died?
Natalie crawled around you and over to Lottie, sitting on her knees next to her.
“It’s okay,” she whispered, and you followed her, crawling over awkwardly. “He’s gone. Remember? We buried him.”
“I think bad things happened here,” Lottie whispered, and you sit back on your knees, wrapping your arms around yourself. She sat up slowly, and left the two of you sitting there.
Natalie stared up at the ladder opening, the moonlight from the one lonely attic window sliding through.

2021-
Natalie and Misty left soon after coming. Misty out her number in your phone, smiling all the while, and Natalie left hers on a piece of paper you quickly hid in a junk drawer.
You almost asked her to stay. Just for a little normalcy, just for some comfort. But you couldn’t stand by and suffer while she killed herself with drugs and alcohol. You couldn’t love her while she died.
Instead, you went to work, came back and ate some shitty dinner, went to sleep and did it all over again.
Maybe it was some part of the wilderness that never left you- but you wanted an adventure.
—-
1996-
The forest was quiet today, besides for the low talking of the girls around you, and the occasional rustle of leaves from a random squirrel. The log a few of the girls had designated as a hang-out space was uncomfortable, but with the low background chatter of the girls, the menial task of ripping t-shirts into bandages becomes easier.
“Hey!” Van shouted from next to you, and started running over to the direction of the cabin. You straightened and looked around her- only to find Travis pointing the gun high, some target in the trees.
It felt almost wrong to use that gun. You found it in the hands of a man who had used it to kill himself. The last time a bullet was fired from its mouth- a man died.
“You don’t know what the hell you’re doing with that!” Van shouted, grabbing the barrel and pointing it down to the ground. Travis shot her a incredulous look.
“He’s being fucking stupid,” Jackie hisses from her place on the porch.
“No. What’s stupid is the fact that we have a gun, and we’re not even fucking using it.” Then, before Van can make another move to grab at it, he points the gun and pulls the trigger.
The sound makes your ears ring for just a moment, and even though you knew it was coming, you and the girls all still jump.
“Jesus Christ,” you mutter.
“What the hell?” Natalie shouts, coming around the corner.
“Hey!” Coach Ben shouts, hobbling outside on the wooden crutch the girls had found for him. “Give me that.”
No one moves, beside for Shauna standing up.
“Travis, give me the gun.”
He rolls his eyes, but eventually stands up and hands it over. Coach Ben takes it, breathing heavily from the effort of simply walking, something clicking as a chamber pops open, and all the bullets inside fall to the floor. You think of a child’s birthday party, and a piñata.
“This is dangerous weapon, and we will handle it as such,” he announces to everyone. “We understand?”
The team slowly nods, looking around at each other.
“Alright, that said, Travis is right. We’re out of food. We’re all feeling it. Good news is my father used to take me deer hunting every year as a kid. The bad news…” He looks down at his leg.
In the past days, he’s become a little more stable with it. Like he’s reaching some sort of common ground.
“Yeah, I am down to one fucking leg. Which means that if we wanna eat, one of you is gonna have to learn how to use this thing.”
Some of the girls smile, other girl’s seem scared.
You watch Natalie’s face- her look of horror.
—-
“Slow breath in… then exhale, then go.”
Misty places the penny on the tip of the gun.
Taissa pulls the trigger, but the penny falls off.
“Damn it,” she sighs lowering the gun.
“It’s okay, you guys. It’s not a competition.” What was Coach Ben expecting from a team of ambitious sports players?
“Uh, but there is gonna be a winner though, right?” Jackie asks, walking over to Tai and Misty, a smug smile on her face. Tai passes the gun to her roughly, and you cross your arms in line, shifting on your feet.
“Alright, Jackie, your turn.” A few claps resound from the girls who already had their turn.
“Nervous?” Nat whispers from behind you, and you can hear the smile in her voice.
“‘Course not,” you say, sparing her a glance over your shoulder.
Jackie points the gun up, and Misty places the penny on top. Before she can pull the trigger, she shakes, and it falls off easily.
A few of the girls laugh, Tai the loudest, and you can’t help but let a small smile cross your face as well.
“This is literally impossible,” Jackie says.
“Alright, alright. Come on, let’s keep it moving. Y/N.” You look up at him. “Let’s go,” he says, and Jackie shoved the gun into your hands, so you take a few steps forward.
You take a deep breath and point the gun forward. Misty places the penny on the tip, and you force yourself not to move too much like Jackie.
After a moment, you pull the trigger, quick, wanting to get it over with. You expect to hear the penny fall, but for some reason- it doesn’t. It stays in the gun.
Misty gasps happily, and there’s a small scattering of applause in the crowd. You smile to yourself, thinking back to when the plane first crashed- when you thought you would be useless out here. You were wrong.
You grab the penny before it can fall, and hand it back to Misty, who smiles at you.
“Nat, you’re up,” Coach says, not missing a moment of daylight.
You turn around, and she walks forward. When her hand wraps around the gun, you can’t stop yourself from whispering, “nervous?”
She smiles, slightly, but it doesn’t meet her eyes. It’s like the closer she gets to the gun, the worst whatever she’s feeling gets.
She holds it steady, and Misty places the penny on top.
She waits, longer than you, before finally pulling the trigger and letting it fall easily.
Travis, who already went before you, who didn’t drop the penny, turns to her with a wicked smile. He’s desperate to be accepted by the rest of the girls, make him stop calling him his nickname of “Flex.”
So, he’s been picking on all of you, one by one, trying to beat you all down until there’s no memeory that he ever wasn’t this cool, better-than-everyone guy.
Van grabs the gun from Nat, getting ready for her own turn, while Travis reaches a hand out to her.
You want to say something comforting and kind- but you don’t know what to say.
“Now, you know what, next time we can just stick to something you’re actually good at, like folding laundry, or sucking-”
“Hey!” Van shouts, the gun in her hands long forgotten.
“Shut up, Travis,” you hiss, tempted to punch him in the face.
“I’m going again,” Natalie declares, and Van happily gives her back the gun. Travis laughs lightly.
“Is she allowed to do that?” Jackie asks.
“Yeah. I’ll allow it,” Coach breathes.
“It’s bullshit-” Travis starts, shaking his head-
“That’s enough.”
Misty places the penny on the tip of the gun. You don’t move, don’t breathe, too scared that any movement will mess up the starking focus she has.
The gun clicks.
The penny stays safely on the gun.
Everyone shouts and cheers, and Travis takes a step back, running his hand through his hair- clearly embarrassed. She holds the gun up at little longer, staring at the penny, until a wide smile crosses her face- and she lets the gun point back to the ground.
You walk over to her, not really knowing why, just wanting to be close to her.
She hands the gun off to Van and looks at you.
You’re sure you look stupid right now, staring at her, smiling so wide your cheeks hurt. And you’re not sure who makes the first move- but suddenly her arms are around your waist, yours around her shoulders, and you’re smiling so stupidly.
—-
“Now that we’ve narrowed down the field, here’s how this is gonna go down. One final round for all of the marbles. You got five targets, five shots each. Mari, can you start us off?”
She smiles, her canines flashing, nodding lightly.
“Um, just a thought,” Laura Lee says. “Shouldn’t we be saving bullets, you know?”
Mari cocks the gun in the way Coach showed you.
“Uh, yeah, in theory, but lucky for us, the nut job who lived here before was apparently hoarding for the apocalypse.” All of you wait a moment, until Mari let’s the bullet fly free.
It misses, and she frowns, reloading.
“The cans,” Travis remarks. “You’re- you’re aiming for the cans.”
“Shut up!” Mari shouts. Before turning back.
“Do you like being this way?” Natalie asks, her hands on her hips.
“If you shit the bed again, you gonna ask for another do-over?” his face is filled with mock sympathy.
“Shut up, Travis,” you groan, sick of hearing his stupid misogyny every second of the day. Natalie only rolls her eyes.
Mari tries again. She misses.
Again. And this time, she knocks one over.
Everyone claps and then Mari hands it off to Travis- pushing it into his chest as hard as she can with Coach watching.
“Okay,” he mumbles, fiddling around with the gun, walking forward until he reaches the line drawn into the dirt.
He hits the cans three times in succession- until finally, an empty shot with no collision rings out. All of you try to hide your laughs.
“So close, Flex,” Natalie smiles.
He turns around, his features meshed into something dark and unlike him. He points the gun right at Natalie.
You stand there, frozen, in disbelief that he would really kill her. He wouldn’t. He couldn’t.
“Don’t fucking call me that.”
Her smile drops.
“Travis!” Coach shouts, standing from the rock he was leaning against. Put. The. Gun. Down.”
It takes him a second, but eventually, he lowers the gun. He turns back around and fires one more shot, taking his time, and he knocks over another can.
“Uh, alright, that’s- that’s good shooting. But don’t ever do that again.”
Natalie walks forward to take the gun. He hands it to her without making a scene, and your heart still pounds from the moment he has turned around and pontes it at her. You aren’t sure how she can stand to be so close to him now.
“Don’t choke. Again,” he says.
She hits one can, then another, and another, until she’s knocked down all five.
“Holy shit,” Coach says. The girls all cheer, a few of them shooting dirty looks at Travis.
But when Natalie turns around again, she stares at you- smiling.
—-
“The truth is, we might be out here for a little longer than we expected. So the rest of us are relying on you three. Which means you need to rely on each other.”
You glance between Natalie and Travis. You have no problem trusting Natalie- but Travis?
“You understand?” Coach asks, and you give a small nod. “Then, here.” He hands the gun out, Travis moves to grab it. “Natalie,” he says.
Travis hands the gun to her before rushing off.
You share a glance with Natalie, and she only huffs before nodding her head in the direction he stormed off too.
You follow, staring at the gun in her hands. It has been held in so many hands before, but you cannot imagine a place where it looks so natural than Natalie.
Eventually, after picking up your pace, you’re walking next to her. She turns to you.
“Hey, I know he’s like- a fucking lunatic, but- I’m the one with the gun.” She smiles, and you return it, feeling somewhat better, but your stomach is full of a million little storms, a million strikes of thunder and lightning. A perfect symphony on violence.
You remember the hug from earlier today. How nice her arms felt around you- the way she still smelled like cigarettes, and you were starting to like the smell.
Quickly, before you can really think about it, you loop your arm through hers and press your head to your shoulder. After a tense moment, she tilts her head too.
Whatever this is, this shaky friendship, bordering on something else, or just a delusion you’ve created in your own mind- it feels good. It feels right. Maybe she’s violence, but maybe you’re violence too. What much can a little more do?
It feels good. It feels right. She feels right.
And maybe it’s the wilderness. And maybe it’s the plane crash. Maybe it’s the hunger in your stomach, rolling around and fighting to get out.
You inhale deeply, and you smell cigarettes.
It might just be the wind, but you swear you can feel her breath rustle your hair, like her lips are against your head. It might just be you, but maybe this feels right to her too.

Gram's house - New Years Party NOTE: After reading this, if you are a mutual/friend/close friend of gram you are invited. You may have your own RPs and just use this as reference when posting as if your muse is there. Gram will also be posting. This lets things be more flexible for you as you'd like. Time starting: 10PM-1AM EST
Front door room / Port room: There is a large entrance for the transportalizer, and it is also by the front door. There is nothing too special about the wall paint, except for some dents and scratches on the walls over the years specifically by the doorway, and the walls by the port.
Hallway: Ahead of this room, is the hallway. At one end of the hall, is Gram's bedroom, and down the other end, is the stairs to go up. There is other rooms in this hall, though. One is labeled "Rahzel's room" which is now unused by him, but he still makes it off limits, aswell as Gram's room is off limits to others he isnt closest to yet. The other door is the game room, where he has put mismatched furniture, an extra tv, some string lights, generally a great hangout room with many consoles he's collected to play with, or just a room to get high in. That is wide open for anyone visiting.
Livingroom: through the hallway is another wide open doorway, that goes right into the open planned livingroom/kitchen. There is dark woodwork in the doorways and windows, aswell as the cabinets and counters in the kitchen. The floor is well taken care of and is real wood, some have been fixed over the years but mostly it seems pretty much similar. No splinters here, just smooth wooden floor. There is a couple couches in the room, aswell as a well loved recliner that is pretty large and brown leather (gram's favorite chair), a faux fireplace/electric fireplace (he never built a chimney despite all hes done), a tv above that, pictures of his past friends/family on the wall and younger self, a soft rug, a christmas tree in the corner, and just generally a warm inviting room.
kitchen: as mentioned, dark wood to match the rest of the house. but nice light countertops. The fridge is large and well stocked, the stove is clean but has seen alot of love, may need replaced in the future to a better gas stove than this one. Appliances are stainless steel. A warm inviting feeling just as much as the livingroom. Again more pictures on the wall, many funny magnets on the fridge, including ones to make sentences with. There is a very nice diningroom table set in front of the window in the kitchen.
Bathroom: There is a doorway that comes off of the kitchen, a small bathroom open for guests. There is another through Gram's bedroom, but that is his. It has green curtains and seems to be themed around green. He isn't sure why he decided on this but it stayed. Everything is still kept very nice through his house and prides himself on learning how to clean well over the years thanks to his Kanaya.
Upstairs: There is three different bedrooms upstairs. One belongs to Badgloop/Gam when he stays over, tends to be living there more often now. He doesnt mind when people go in as long as they dont take or mess with his things. It's surprisingly pink and pastel in there. Moreso for when hes streaming himself for people, and because he's gotten into pastel, and lovecore aesthetics. The other two bedrooms are guest rooms when others need a place to be. One room is slowly becoming a kids bedroom though. There is another room that is mostly storage, and a couple bathrooms upstairs. Cant have too many bathrooms. Kept mostly simple in aesthetics upstairs, but he definitely is not minimalist. Those light fixtures are the prettiest part of the house. There is a small balcony upstairs aswell. Cant go without that, of course. Nicely shaded.
Outside back yard: Through the back sliding door in the kitchen, there is a hot tub outside open to anyone who'd like to use it, and a pool that is covered up for the season for now. His Garden of course is cleaned up because its winter, but his greenhouse is being well used through the year. Plenty seating areas for nice spots back there. There is a large forest outside of this, surrounding the house, yard, and garden. The trees have gotten beautifully tall over the years, almost insanely tall. There is proof gram takes good care of what hes able to use, though. Deeper in the forest there is some bushes and a small seating area just by a small gravestone. That is syreni's grave. Syreni was grams past mate he almost married. He likes to sit out there and talk to him every now and then. When spring and summer comes he always surrounds this spot with flowers.
Extra details: Scent to the house is whatever he is cooking at the time + very fresh and clean + Whatever candles he is burning. At the moment the candles are nice spiced ones like fall scents, but nothing too overpowering. Plenty food will be made and provided to everyone who visits, aswell as drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic, will be labeled). No smoking cigarettes indoors, no sex in the rooms while over. Smoochin is just fine (lmao), Dont set grams house on fire.
Pets: Snort (black pekingese-boy), Puggy (black pug-girl), Jasper(service dog - Shetland sheepdog), droopy(gray and white lop rabbit-Girl), Pudding(blonde colored fluffy cat-Boy), all well behaved and cuddly when they are payed attention to. Jasper is attentive to gram to know when to help but mostly at home she is 'off work' and okay to play with.
((I made a layout in the sims recently but i tried to remake it and i got too tired to do it, so hopefully this is enough description. ))

Qui Totum Vult Totum Perdit (d.s.) - 3
A/N Let’s get things moving
Warnings: This story is centered around a murder so there will be graphic descriptions of blood, death/manslaughter, dealing with corpses, possible domestic abuse (physical/verbal), crime/covering up a crime, shock/grief, and other possibly heavy or triggering topics. Please read at your own discretion.
Jonah and I stepped in through the sliding glass door that led from the back porch into the living room of my house. The main floor was quiet and tidy and the blinds on all the windows were still open, allowing the entire space to be brightened nicely. Jonah closed the door behind us, and we paused a moment to look around at our initial surroundings. Nothing seemed out of place; it looked just like how we left it nearly three weeks earlier.
I made the first move farther into the house, scanning surfaces and spaces for any sign of anything that could help trigger my memory of the night before…but even our suitcases from the flight home weren’t there. I ended up finding them in the master bedroom at the end of the hallway, rested neatly against the door with my laptop bag placed on top. Our room was no different than when we left with the sheets pulled tightly over the bed and topped with the odd decorative pillow; a few random items left on the two bedside tables. I let my eyes linger on the framed photograph of Avalon and me on the beach a few summers back that was sat on the small table on my own side of the bed. She wore this terrible huge white sunhat and a pair of designer sunglasses I had bought her for her birthday but her smile was the brightest thing in the picture regardless of what accessories she wore, and even my own self in the photograph was staring at her with nothing but awe.
“Daniel.”
Jonah’s voice pulled me from my thoughts and I followed his voice back down the hallway to the kitchen. He was standing at the end of the island and pointed to the floor with the toe of his shoe to lead my eyes down to the smashed glass and spilt water on the hardwood.
“Remember something about this?” he asked.
“God, I fucking hate you!” she screamed, throwing her water glass at me and it fell and shattered on the ground as she spun on her heel to head towards the sliding doors leading to the backyard.
“Don’t walk away while we’re talking!” I called angrily after her, hot on her heels as she stormed out into the dark backyard. I stopped the door with my foot before she should slide it shut and I followed after her into the warm LA night towards the studio built a few paces from the back deck. “You wanted me to talk to you so goddamn badly so here I am!”
“This isn’t talking, Daniel!” she stomped down the three stairs of the back porch and across the stone walkway to the studio door. “Leave me alone!”
The scene played in my head like a picture, like it was a true memory, but how could I be sure? I furrowed my eyebrows and stepped closer to crouch down and pick up one of the larger pieces between my fingers, “I don’t know.”
“It has to trigger something, Daniel. Be honest with me, bro.” Jonah pressed.
I tapped the tip of my index finger against the piece of glass in my hand until it started to pierce through each layer of callused skin. My eyes scanned the kitchen floor, past the island, and to the tall natural wood front door a few paces away.
“Your ignorance is fucking incredible, Daniel James!”
Her words were venomous, punctuated by the slam of the front door the moment we stepped back inside the house. I was still trying to put my wallet in my pocket after paying the taxi driver, showing exactly how quickly she decided to snap back at me after we already endured a terribly tense flight home. Yet, apparently a simple question of “are you okay” was completely disgusting of me to ask.
“You can’t just lose your temper like this every time you get a bit upset, Avalon. I’m just trying to talk to you.” I called as calmly as I could as I set my computer bag on the kitchen island.
She grabbed herself an empty glass from the cupboard and slammed the cabinet door shut before turning on the tap aggressively. Her brown eyes glared daggers in my direction over the rim of the glass as she raised it to her lips to take a sip, and the diamond ring on her left hand caught the light of the late evening setting sun coming in through the window. Flickers of orange light writhed on the marble countertop between us and died when she lowered her hand out of the incoming rays.
There was a moment of silence as the beginnings of this obvious inevitable fight lingered between us.
“We fought.” I breathed. “We had an argument that kinda blew up.”
“Okay.” Jonah answered plainly, watching me crouched there stewing in my mind.
I bit at my bottom lip as I tried to wrack my brain for any other snippets of memory.
“She didn’t talk to me all day…the whole flight home.” I whispered, eyebrows furrowing deeper as the faint hints of memory flicked through my mind. “She was angry at me…and we had an argument and we yelled and…”
I rubbed my hand over my forehead as the splitting pain was lessened to a dull throb, but my head still ached, especially while straining to think of something that I didn’t remember.
“I think we really went at it…I…”
“What was she mad about?” Jonah knelt down to help clean up the broken pieces of glass.
The gentle tinkle of the shards falling together in our palms as we collected them rang at the forefront of my mind. I could hear her soft gasp as the glass slipped from her hand and fell to shatters on the ground.
I cleared my throat, “Work…I think.”
Jonah’s eyes raised to me, “You never liked when she brought up our job in arguments. You’ve told me that plenty.”
“Yeah.” I said.
I paused a moment before getting up from the ground and I tossed the broken glass into the garbage. Jonah did the same after me.
“Do you think that was the final straw?” Jonah asked gently.
I leaned my hands on the island countertop with a sigh and then turned my head to look at him, “Bro, honestly, I don’t know. Why would I…why would I kill her?”
“That’s what I’m asking you.” Jonah said softly.
“We just got married, Jo. Why would I…I couldn’t have…” I mumbled. “I loved her.”
“Yeah, you loved her. And yet she never seemed to accept your status in society.” Jonah stated.
“Status in society.” I scoffed, turning around to lean back against the counter. “Yeah, right. You open a well-known recording studio and suddenly all of fucking Los Angeles thinks you’re a celebrity. Avalon always hated that side of it.”
“I know she did. You came to me pissed about it more often that either of us would have liked to admit.”
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I pulled it out to see a text from my brother,
Hello?? You said you would text me when you landed and I haven’t heard from you. Where are you?
“Who’s that?” Jonah asked.
“Christian.” I answered flatly as I scrolled up in the conversation thread to see a few other texts from him since the time the plane landed, asking where I was. They were all unanswered. Why didn’t I answer him?
“My brother always told me you were too fucking weak to be my wife…couldn’t handle the baggage that comes with the job.”
“Leave Christian out of this. He doesn’t know bull-fucking-shit about us and especially not about me. Neither of you know how hard it is!”
“It’s not hard, Avalon! You sit here and look pretty and I buy you sparkly things! It’s not that fucking hard! You’re just being an obnoxious brat about everything, and you always have!”
I cleared my throat nervously as I stared at the unanswered texts from my older brother. He never particularly liked Avalon and that was obvious; when we were dating he had it in his head that she was a gold-digger and only with me for my money and once we got engaged he made a point to call her out on all the smallest things she did ‘wrong’. No one was good enough for me in his mind. At least she wasn’t.
If it wasn’t my job that Avalon and I argued about, it was Christian. I adored my older brother, but she had such a tense and weak relationship with him no matter how hard she tried to get him to even tolerate her. He was set in his ways that he would dislike her for as long as she lived. I loved him and he was my family so I would defend him and it would drive her up the walls batshit crazy. I’m not a perfect man, dear reader, and I don’t claim to be better than I am. I suppose I should have tried to take her side once in a while. She was the love of my life after all, wasn’t she?

The Flame and the Dragon Ch13
Chapter 13: The Cursed Castle
The staircase led to the first floor and Kai was back in the front hallway. The enormous locked doors to the front mocked him as he passed by. He snorted and growled trying to navigate his way through the labyrinth of chambers. His stomach refused to silence. He turned down another hallway but every corridor appeared the same. They were made of stone and lit with candles, but each was decorated in a different manner. This only made it more difficult to decide where to go.
Two oak doors blocked the end of the hallway.
A light leaking from the bottom caught Kai's attention. He turned the handles and shoved the doors open a crack, preventing any noise. His eyes widened as he scanned the enormous dining room Even in the darkness, the room was stunning. A smooth, green carpet covered the floor, while a red carpet stretched from the entrance, up too small steps, and to a large platform where a gold and silver table sat. Matching chairs in a similar fashion lined the walls opposite the ends of the table.
Behind the table, three windows covered almost the entire wall, shaped like the top of an octagon.
They were lined with maroon curtains tied with a gold cord. The darkness outside told him it was still night. A crystal chandelier lit with many candles hung from the ceiling on a thick chain, while candle holders lit with cream-colored candles rested on the oak tables. A huge fireplace framed with black stone rested in the opposite wall where a huge mirror rested above the mantelpiece. There was no ceiling. Instead, there was a balcony. Kai recognized as one of the ones he'd traveled when Cole showed him to his room, branched from one wall to the other.
Kai shivered to wonder what the room must have looked like during the day, with light spilling in from the windows.
In the far corner, lights danced behind another door, diverting his attention. He slowly approached the door and gently pushed it open. A short stone hallway lit by orange and yellow lights led to the kitchen where he could hear voices. Caution and curious, Kai pressed his back against the opposite wall, keeping himself in the safety of the shadows, before silently sliding towards the kitchen entrance. He carefully leaned over to peer inside. The kitchen was full of bright lights though he could only see a few candles and enormous wheel-shaped chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
In the corner was an enormous brick structure that Kai could've mistaken for an alter if not for the black smoke pouring out the brick tower.
There was blazing yellow and orange fire burning wildly within it. The kitchen was huge. It was an entire room made of stone and glass and the floor was made of a sandy-gold stone. The fire pit, contained by the enormous brick stove, rested in the far corner embedded in the wall. A line of black tools hung from the wall around the stove, so they were within easy reach. A tall man, taller than Kai with short black hair and ghostly pale skin stood before the fire pit.
With a wave of his arms, the fires roared to life, before calming with the flick of the man's wrist.
He carried jars of spices from the mess upon the huge wooden table in the middle of the room and rearranged them in the towering spice cabinet next to the stove. Servants moved about, two he recognized as the man and woman in the tower, scurried about the kitchen carrying plates of little cakes, baskets of apple and fruits, and trays covered with silver tins. They placed them all on a huge wooden table in the middle. The table was full of knives and cutting boards and overcrowded with apples, peppers, carrots, and other vegetables.
The servants gathered them all in baskets before relocating them in either the huge icebox in the corner of the enormous pantry, so large it covered almost the entire wall.
Over a large silver sink, Neuro scrubbed pots beneath a faucet of running water. Steam rose when the hot water touched the cool, gray water. Nelson was sat on one of the countertops drying plates. Tox and Ronin who Kai recognized from the tower were carrying large pots, struggling with large towers of plates and cauldrons of water. The two placed the objects on the table before a flash of turquoise and green surrounding them. A green naga and a short troll stood in their place.
They then relocated the dishes from the countertops to the cupboards above the counters.
They were carved from wood but each one had a glass window so people could see where each one went. The raven-haired man in the corner turned around, barking orders, revealing his true face. He had a few inches on Kai and pale, almost grey, skin and onyx-colored eyes. A strong hand wiped the sweat from his brow. He wore black gloves and a sleeveless black vest with silver shoulder braces, a silver wolf symbol with red eyes, and in front of a blue area on the chest.
His legs were designed with gray pants and black boots.
His white cooking apron was blotched with soot and stained red. Kai ducked behind the wall hoping he wasn't seen. His heart hammered in his chest in confusion and excitement, as he pondered who, or rather what, they were.
"UGH! I can't believe this! I slave all day over a hot stove, quite literally and what!? It all goes to waste!" He hollered as he raised his hands in protest. The other servants and the boy on the counter jumped. The only one unafraid of the cook's temper was Neuro, who was still doing dishes.
"Oh, stop your grousing! It's been a long night for all of us!" Neuro told him. Shade rolled his eyes but said nothing else. Not a moment later Jay, who Kai also recognized from the tower, bulldozed into the room through the opposite door, panting heavily. Echo ran beside him, looking just as exhausted as Jay.
"Sorry guys," Jay panted, before glowing in a dark blue light. A blue fox took his place. Kai's eyes almost bulged out of his skull. He couldn't look away as Echo closed his eyes and in a flash of gold, only a brown centaur remained. They had intended to continue their search for Kai, but they noticed how much work the others had to do since dinner was canceled and it wasn't like Kai could leave the castle. Wasting no time, Jay, in the form of a Raijū, grabbed a stack of plates clearly too heavy for him.
The tiny creature struggled to use his powers to float but managed to lift it and made his way towards the pantry.
"Jay let me help you," Echo begged his companion.
"I got it," Jay grunted until finally, he faltered as his body fell, sending plates scattering around him. Without thinking Kai dove and slid across the floor to catch the falling creature in his arms. Plates rained around him, as Kai pulled the shaking fox in his arms. Everyone, who had moved for the same reason, froze and stared at the boy on the floor. Kai blinked in surprise until his eyes widened in remembrance.
"Oh, you're there," Jay said. "Echo and I wondered where you disappeared too." He smiled. Kai reacted quickly. His entire body jumped and he fell backward until he was in a half-sitting, half-lying position. His eyes were wide with shock and awe. The action sent Jay flying into the air, forcing him to use his powers to float. The cook crossed his arms and smirked at the teen on the floor. Jay rubbed his head with a paw before blinking at his savor.
He smiled brightly and extended a paw to Kai, who stared at him with a mixture of shock, confusion, and amazement.
"I'm Jay, please to meet you."
"Uh, hello," Kai replied as he shook Jay's paw with two fingers.
"I apologize about this," Neuro said as he leaned forward slightly so his eyes met Kia's bewildered ones. "My name is Neuro, and before you ask, no you are not in any way mad, and I do hope our presence didn't shock you; we didn't expect to meet you formally until tomorrow, otherwise we would've made your acquaintance already but now that you're here, we'd like to welcome you, Master... Kai, is it?" He asked. Kai nodded, still shocked.
"Sorry about before." Tox hissed as she slithered over. "We didn't get to introduce ourselves, the name's Tox." She smiled before there was a flash of green. When it faded again a green-haired woman landed on her heels and offered a hand to Kai.
"Hello," Kai replied, a bit breathlessly, and shook the offered hand. Tox took the opportunity to pull him to his feet.
"Sorry, about earlier." Echo smiled sadly before reappearing as the brunette boy with gold eyes a moment later. "I hope all of our transforming back and forth didn't scare you." He smiled sincerely.
"It's alright, I don't mind." Kai smiled. "I'm assuming these are your cursed forms?" He asked gesturing to Jay's fox form.
"Only if we want, it's just exhausting to stay human and easier for us to move like this," Jay explained.
"But the Dragon Lord is a mix of man and creature, so how come none of you are?" He asked, wondering why they were suddenly switching between their human forms and the monstrous forms he recognized from the fairy tale. They all shared uncomfortable looks so Kai thought it'd be best to drop the subject.
"I'm Ronin." The troll smiled from the counter. Kai nodded with a small smile.
"Easy there, lads, you don't wanna shock the boy anymore than he already has been shocked tonight." Shade teased before narrowing his eyes to the teen in front of him. Kai stayed still as Shade's hard eyes, void of emotion and impossible to read, scanned him over critically. "The boys told me you're the reason the Master was throwing a fit this afternoon, is that true?" He asked and Kai raised an eyebrow.
"If he threw a tantrum because I refused to obey him then that is no one's fault but his own; I made myself perfectly clear when I said I refused to become another one of his servants just because we made a deal." He answered. Everyone froze for a bit, then Shade did the last thing anyone expected, he laughed.
"You got guts, it about time someone deflated the oversized ego of Cole's! He needs to learn to lighten up a bit." The cook laughed in such a way, Kai wasn't sure if it was good or bad until the noirette smirked. "Welcome to the hellhole, I'm Shade, the cook here and Neuro's husband, at your service."
"My name's Nelson." The boy he'd seen earlier jumped from the counter to greet him with a bright smile on his face. "You've already met Jay." He said and gestured to the blue fox floating in the air, knocking Ronin off the counter. The troll growled and began a chase. Kai ducked and moved, hoping to avoid the crossfire. Soon Tox and Echo both returned to their human forms and joined in the play.
"Don't mind them." Neuro chuckled. "They're always eager to see a new face; now, if there is anything at all we can do to make your stay more comfortable, please do not hesitate to ask."
"Yeah, we haven't had any guests here in ages!" Jay smiled, stopping in the air, causing the other three creatures to crash into him.
"Well, I am a little hungry."
"You hear that? He's hungry!" Neuro instantly beamed as he turned to Shade.
"Start the fire!" Shade smiled as he spun around and waved his hand. The oven erupted in flames. "Pull out the spices, break out the china!" He ordered and not a moment later, everyone did as commanded. The spice cabinet flew open and various jars of different colored herbs were removed and drawers opened, revealing the forks, spoons, and knives.
"Wait!" Tox countered. "Didn't the Master say-"
"Until I die, not a soul in this castle is going to bed hungry!" He declared, boldly. Kai almost blushed at the attention.
"Really, you don't have to-"
"Shut it!" Shade cut him off he dropped the two huge pots he'd been carrying on top of the roaring stove. Before Kai could blink Shade flew in front of him making him jump and stumble backward. Shade circled him, scanning him up and down then pinched his arm making Kai growl, and snatch his arm away
"What the hell are you doing!" He demanded angrily but Shade didn't seem to hear him.
"I've got my work cut out for me." The chef shook his head both in disappointment and in excitement at the new challenge. "Not to worry, when I'm done with you you'll never eat again! You need it, you're way too thin for a normal seventeen—"
"I'M NINETEEN!"
"That's even worse! Do you ever eat?! You're nothing but skin and bones!" Shade gasped in horror. Before Kai could answer, Shade started running around the room gathering ingredients. "We are going to need chickens, chestnuts, and broth for stuffing and plenty of hazelnuts!" He started shouting randomly, grabbing a basket of apples from the pantry, and began slicing through each one like butter. "Three cups of flour, six eggs, and a quarter of milk… MOVE IT!" He roared.
The servants scurried throughout the kitchen as the dook randomly shouted what he needed.
The chef darted from the icebox to the pantry or the table. He was grabbing, slicing, and throwing food over his shoulder into pots, on pans, or plates. The whole process was so quick and complex, Kai suddenly felt dizzy watching him work.
"TOX!"
"HERE!" The naga answered while Shade placed a tray of sliced cheeses and crackers and assorted fruits in her hands.
"Bring that to the dining hall and don't spill a single one or I'll skin you alive!"
"GOT IT!" She replied, before jumping off the counter and dashing towards the dining room. When Kai felt something pull on his sleeve, he looked down and found Nelson tugging on his sleeve.
"You'll love it, Shade's a great cook." He reassured the brunette. Smiling, Kai scooped the small boy into his arms, making him yelp, and walked towards the dining room. He shoved the doors open, so Tox and Ronin could get in and place the food on the table. He gently placed Nelson on the table and turned around just in time to see Jay fly in. The blue fox struggled to carry a huge bowl of gravy on his head as he panted exhaustedly. Taking pity on him, when Jay started to slowly fall to the ground, Kai took the pot of Jay's head and carried it to the table.
"Hey! That's our job!" Jay moaned in annoyance. Kai chuckled at the pout on the fox's face.
"What? So now I'm not even allowed to help? Fuck that! Listen, guys, I appreciate all this, really, but I can take care of myself, I really can't stand being waited on all the time." He insisted. The servants just nodded and retreated back to the kitchen before coming back with more food, putting up no resistance whenever Kai offered to help. When Shade finished, all things delicious and imaginable were spread across the table. Kai noticed they'd only set one plate for him, but looking at the display before him, he knew there was no way he could ever hope to eat all the food.
A basket full of ripe, red apples arranged next to a basket of bread and rolls that sat next to a plate of butter.
The centerpiece was a huge chicken stuffed with chestnut stuffing, next to a bowl of hot, buttery gravy. Wheel-shaped plates of cheese and crackers that were hemmed by pieces of ham and beef served as appetizers. A single, large golden goblet was filled with rich, burgundy wine. For dessert, there were plates of fruits. There were strawberries smoothed with cream and dusted with brown sugar, raspberries coated in chocolate, hazelnuts dipped in honey, and over a dozen tiny cakes filled with cream with light pink frosting.
Kai couldn't say anything as his mouth began to water at the sight of all that delicious food.
"I take pride in my work," Shade smirked, before gently shoving Kai into the dining room. He turned to leave but Kai stopped him.
"Aren't you having any?" He asked. Shade paused and raised an eyebrow, before remembering this was only Kai's first night here.
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"I literally can't, I can't leave the kitchen, I'm bound to it." He replied, sounding angry and almost sad. The noirette didn't give Kai time to answer and turned to leave again, but Kai jumped in front of him. He blocked the door before turning to the rest of the confused staff.
"You guys can't expect me to eat all that by myself, right? I assumed you were making enough for everyone?" He asked and Shade blinked. Kai's determination refused to falter. Again the cook smirked and crossed his arms.
"You got a good heart, but even though we can, we don't need to eat; it's part of our curse."
"When was the last time any of you actually enjoyed your own cooking?"
"Over a hundred years ago." He answered flatly. He resisted the urge to urge to snort at the stunned look on Kai's face. Instead of questioning him, Kai strolled back to the table and sat down at the table.
"Come on, the food looks delicious, and I already know there's a possible way I can finish all this by myself, so feel free; I'd don't mind, I like company."
"Sure." Jay shrugged as he hopped onto the table and grabbed a cake before plopping it in his mouth. Shade plucked the blue fox by his tail.
"At least have the decency to wait, I didn't go through all the trouble of cooking just so you could eat it all in five minutes." He scolded, while everyone else either grabbed a chair or followed Jay's example and took a seat on the table. Shade dropped Jay next to Nelson and leaned against the table, before grabbing one of the cakes and took a bite. "So, Kai, what would you like?" He asked. Kai's eyes scanned the mountains of food again, already feeling his stomach begging.
"I'll just have a bit of everything." He finally said. Kai had never cared much for the laws of physics, but whoever said the matter couldn't be created or destroyed clearly never met Jay or Ronin before. In the span of a few short seconds, the two creatures had devoured over half the food that was leftover, after everyone claimed their meal. They made all that food vanish in less than a few seconds. Kai could only stare at them in shock.
"Don't think about it." Someone suddenly said. Kai jumped and turned to Echo, who was standing next to him, munching on a cake and a strawberry. "Ronin and Jay are eating machines, Shade says the day he leaves either one of them in the kitchen unattended is the day he lets us all starve to death." The centare laughed before eating his strawberry. Shade nodded at this, sinking his unusually long canine into an apple. Kai chuckled before stealing another cake, while the two boys fought over the last of the cream-filled sweets.
He couldn't believe how much he was enjoying himself.
Everything unhappy and frustrating about the previous evening just seemed like a bad dream. Once everyone had eaten their choice of food, they'd began bombarding Kai with questions about himself, each one of them curious to learn everything about their new guest. He'd given up trying to persuade them not to call him Master Kai and decided it was just something he'd have to get used to. The younger staff and Nelson were all careful to avoid anything that related to his siblings, which he was grateful for.
Despite his unusual happiness, the ache of never seeing his family again left a heavy hollow weight in his chest.
"So, you like books?" Nelson asked, sipping a glass of orange juice.
"Lloyd and I used to spend all our time in the bookstore whenever we got a chance." He nodded. Jay perked up and let go of the cake he'd been holding, sending Ronin, who was trying to take the cake, flying backward and almost off the table.
"We should show you the library then, right Tox?" He asked, turning to the naga, who was busy licking the last of the chicken off a drumstick.
"Of course, it's on the second floor."
"You have a library? Where is it?" Kai asked, excited.
"We'll show you tomorrow, we've gone through the whole day already." Echo replied. Kai blinked before looking around for some form of a clock in the room. An antique grandfather clock in the hallway, chimed to life, alerting the staff it was already 9 o'clock.
"Wow, I guess time really does fly when you're having fun." He chuckled and continued to socialize with the younger staff. Tox, Jay, and Nelson all asked Kai questions about himself, especially when he let it slip that he liked to write. It rather surprised everyone else. It was almost too impossible to believe this guy was the same rebellious and feisty teen who'd all but sent their Master into a fury the night before. Ronin suddenly stopped eating and jumped from the table.
In a flash of turquoise, he returned to his human form and grabbed a large tray, and began piling it with enough food for at least two people.
He clenched the silver handles and turned to the stairs.
"Where are you going?" Kai asked curiously.
"The Master didn't come down for dinner, so he must be hungry." He answered flatly. A sudden rage filled Kai and he snorted, remembering the argument they'd had earlier. Ronin turned to the new guest and offered a small smile.
"He's really not bad, except when he's in a mood, but really, he's not bad; you'll forgive him when you get to know him and until then, have a good night." He smiled before exiting the room and strolling up the staircase Kai hadn't noticed before. Kai's ever narrowed but he said nothing.
"You'll have to forgive him, Kai." Neuro sighed. "It's just been so long, and he hasn't really interacted with people for quite some time; sometimes he forgets what it's like to be kind and I'm sure you can understand, haven't you ever felt so out of place it was like everyone was against you for reasons you could not understand?" He asked and Kai almost choked on the wine he'd been drinking. He couldn't answer, but Neuro's words echoed in his mind like a guilty conscious smacking him for an act of stupidity.
He didn't answer and instead just looked at the floor.
For a moment he wondered if it was Cole or him Neuro had been talking about. The last chapter of the fairy tale repeated in his head, and for the first time in two days, he had to remind himself it wasn't just a fairy tale, but a true story. A true story about a hundred years of isolation. He shook his head and tried to dispel the thoughts. He didn't want to think about that right now. He didn't want to spoil his good mood with those thoughts. He didn't regret his and Cole's argument earlier.
Tragedy or not, he reacted the way anyone would, he told himself.
Kai sighed and stood from his chair, causing everyone in the room to stare.
"I'm going to head to bed if that's alright." He said with a small smile.
"We'll go with you." Jay volunteered, floating up and resting on Kai's shoulder. Kai chuckled before offering an arm to Nelson. Nelson took advantage of the gesture and took hold of Kai's hand.
"Are you three coming?" He asked, Shade, Echo, Neuro, and Tox.
"No thank you," Tox replied.
"We should clean this up, and don't you dare volunteer to help, this is the only time of the night Shade and I get to be alone." Neuro smiled, teasingly, though the smirk on Shade's face suggested a few not so innocent intentions. Kai shuddered, before turning to Echo.
"Coming?"
"I have to help the others; the rest of the staff will want to meet you tomorrow." He replied and Kai nodded, before leaving the room, and asking his new friends the quickest way to the East Wing. No one noticed the shadow standing on the balcony overlooking the dining hall, or the green eyes transfixed on the smiling form of their new guest and the equally laughing faces of his staff. He retreated to the safety of the shadows hoping to let them have their moment of happiness, undisturbed...
****************
No one but Ronin noticed the flash of black retreating towards the West Wing. Ronin stopped outside a familiar door of dark wood, engraved with the stunning carving of a dragon. It stood tall and proud as beautiful as it was dangerous, powerful wings twice its length flexed to its full length empowering the border of the doors. Ronin shifted the weight of the tray to one hand and used his free one to knock the silver door knockers. Without an answer, the doors unlocked themselves with a loud click and the shifting of gears like a clock.
Swiftly, but gently, Ronin turned the doorknob and gently pushed the large doors open.
He was met with darkness, lit only by the crack of light from the hallway.
"Master?" He called gently, before entering the room and carefully closing it behind him. Only the bright glow of a large red candle in the corner lit the room. Shredded tapestries hung from the walls, and tattered orange curtains covered the glass doors leading to a balcony. A table covered in white cloth sat on the raised platform. On the table sat the Master's most treasured items, which Ronin dared not touch. The once-grand room was caked with dust and cobwebs.
The only thing untouched by the dust was the huge canopy bed in the corner.
The frame made from iron and the comforter and pillows were shades of black, red, and amber. The curtains around it were tattered and faded with age, but they'd done their job keeping age from touching the bed. The curtain was open and Ronin could see his master sitting there, wrapped in his enormous wings.
"Master? It's time for dinner." He called again. The Dragon Lord finally acknowledged his presents and opened his wings. Ronin gave him a small smile, before setting the tray down on of the broken tables. Of all the servants in the castle, Ronin was one of the only two allowed such familiarity with their Master. He wasn't sure if it was because he'd been there the longest, or if it was because Cole was the one who brought him there and offered him sanctuary.
Ronin accepted that gift with pride.
He made no effort to take advantage of it. Cole smiled and rose from his seat.
"Shouldn't you be making sure our guest doesn't get lost?" He teased.
"Don't worry, Nelson is with him; I'm not foolish enough to leave him alone with Jay, even you wouldn't do something that cruel."
"You put too much faith in me, all of you do." He chuckled lightly. "Anyone else would have, should have, given up on me long ago; I'd have already given up on myself by now."
"Don't say that!" Ronin said, too outspokenly, but it was too late to stop himself. "You don't have enough faith in yourself, you're one of the strongest people I've ever met! I refuse to believe that man who saved me can't be saved himself." He finally choked out, though it hardly measured up to what he wanted to say.
"You really think I don't want to believe that?" Cole asked rhetorically. "Do you really think, I hadn't thought of that when three strangers literally dropped on my doorstep? I hope and I pray and yet instead of an angel I get this brazen, obnoxious boy who can't hold his tongue or keep his temper." Cole chuckled, but Ronin knew it wasn't humorous. "I'm done and I won't pretend to be anything other than what I am." He sighed. Ronin opened his mouth to protest but Cole just smiled.
"Go to bed, I'm sure Kai would enjoy the company." He said and Ronin didn't argue. He just nodded and before leaving his master alone. When the troll was gone, Cole turned to the tray on the table, and with the weave of his arm, it crashed against the wall with the loud clang of metal and silver. He scowled to himself. They all placed too much faith in him. It would only be disappointing when he failed. He growled with disgust at himself before turning to the table in front of the balcony and gazed at the crimson red candle as the bright purple flame flickered back and forth.
One hand braced the rim of the table, the other covering his face with his black scaled paw.
The peace was married to the memory of those who'd given up everything for him. The ones he had lost. The ones he failed to protect.
"It's hopeless."...

Next Door
Warnings: Alpha/Omega dynamics, Pure smut, some overstimulation, cursing. The reader is black so...yeah
You got this droning sound in your ears. Staring down at the empty pill bottle, you made a shocking realization. Whines left your mouth as you tossed the container into the trashcan. Your heat was on and you were out of suppressants. You stood at your sink, already slick from a wet dream and your body temperature slightly elevated. “Fuck.” you said as you leaned over and pressed your lips together. It was 3 a.m. and you needed something to ease your tensions. You turned on your shower and pulled the lavender soap from your cabinet.
You tried washing yourself and letting the aroma calm you but, touching yourself only made it worse. Each rub across your breasts made you even more turned on. You had no idea why or how, but you began to draw circles on your clit. You moaned as the warm shower water cascading over you as did pleasure.
You braced yourself against the wall as you worked yourself. You wanted someone to rut inside you. You wanted to be filled to your brim. Overflow until you were blind. Your nails scratched against the walls of your shower as you came to your climax. You screamed and slid down the wall. You took deep breaths but it did nothing for you. You smacked your lips, moving the dial of your shower to the cold setting.
You were amazed in the morning that you were able to sleep. But you still had to another three days to make it through this. You were surfing your laptop waiting on your delivered breakfast, looking for a new doctor since you moved especially one that would prescribe more medicine ASAP.
You heard male voices outside your door. The grip on your pen tightened. Your jaw clenched as you held your legs closed. You were hit with more intense smells. All of them, harsh and musky. You pulled the blanket from behind you and pushed it to your nose trying to focus on the scent of it but, their scents still crept to your nose. The voices were deep and enticing on their own. Why won’t they just go away? Who was across the way anyway? That apartment was empty and had been months before you even moved in. You almost wanted to cry at the scents. You felt feverish all over again. You scrambled to turn your fan on and point it towards you. The cool air coming over you. You moved your laptop and slid down on the couch. Your nails scratching into the fabric as you bit your lip and moaned.
Some of the scents began to fade away. You could hear goodbyes and faded laughter. However, there was still...that scent. It was heavy and dark. It hit your nose and drove into you, like an 18-wheeler. You had half a mind to crawl to the door and let whoever it was piledrive you into your wood floor. There was a knock at the door. Had he smelled you too? You padded to the door nervously. You didn’t think to look through the peephole. You unlocked it and opened it.
“Hi! I have your breakfast! Thanks for ordering with us.” the sweet girl said. Clearly, she had to have been on suppressants with how chipper she was. It almost pissed you off, the genuine, cute smile on her face. You grabbed your large brown bag from her and started to hand her the tip. You could barely focus with the hard leather smell. You coughed to distract her and make it seem like you just had bad allergies. You struggled to will yourself to function. Your muscles began to ache and your brain was rattling. You clenched your thighs as you signed for the receipt. Until you were beckoned to look past her. Your nostrils burning as the scent was at it’s strongest at that moment.
You shuddered at the sheer sight of him. With him, right there in front of you, his scent was all you could think about. And him. God, he was beautiful. Tall, muscular, brawny shoulders. It was apparent he was staring at you. His gaze was dangerous. His nostrils flared, he had fully engulfed you. His fist clenched. His skin seemed to turn red, his green eyes darkened.
“Ma’am?” the woman in front of you asked. You tossed the clipboard at her and retreated back and shut the door as he began to step forward. You struggled to the island of your kitchen before you dropped your breakfast. You gripped the countertop, reeling. The room almost seemed to spin as the scent was still so stuck in your head. Your knees almost buckled at the thought of him, plowing into you. No doubt a puddle in your panties.
You covered your nose with your hands as if that would really stop the scent from driving you mad. You fought the idea of going back to the door and dropping your dress for the man that was now your neighbor. You turned on your diffuser, hoping whatever oil was in it would help.
Florian tried focusing on putting things away. He had boxes to get through. He wanted to take care of setting up part of his place at least but, that sweet smell. He rolled his head around, cracking his neck as he could still smell you even through the walls. He bit his lip. He had never smelled anyone like you before. He had been so clouded earlier, but once you presented yourself and all he could do was take you in. Florian gripped the glass plate. The thoughts that ran through his head would make anyone feel dirty. However, he was imagining how you tasted. If your voice would get high pitched when he’d slide into you. He saw how nice and kept your nails looked. No doubt you’d mark up his back and chest. He winced as he could almost feel you, melting around him. Your body submitting to him and he’d fill you with every once of him. Florian was ripped from his fantasy as his grip on the porcelain plate shattered it.
“Damn it.” he grunted. He rushed to pick up the shards, careful not to cut himself. He felt himself aching in his pants as he tried gathering the pieces. Florian thought about how beautiful your skin looked. The rich deep brown that probably shined in the sunlight. Your thick lips had to taste as sweet as you smelled. He remained kneeling on the floor gathering himself. Florian huffed, your scent driving him insane. He had never smelled anyone like you. No one had sent him into a rut this great. To be fair, he hadn’t actually been sent into a rut in a long time but, this was different. One whiff of you and he was coming undone.
You began to writhe in the bedroom of your apartment. Not like, pinning yourself to the wall would get you further from his scent. You drenched the cloth in something fragrant, something that was made to calm the nerves but, it wasn’t working. Your knees locked as you felt yourself gushing. You needed relief. Desperately yanking your own panties from under your dress, you dug into your drawer for vibrators and toys. You laid back on your chair, legs spread. You fumbled, struggling to turn your favorite toy on. You tossed the towel as you took the lengthy toy, pushing it against you, positioning it on your nub.
“Yes.” you harped. You moaned as you angled it again, letting one part of it plunge into you and the smaller head resting on your clit. You grabbed your own breast, moaning as you dragged yourself to an orgasm. You felt feverish, a sweat breaking out over you. You began to slump in your chair.
Florian growled. Your scent intensified, filling his nostrils. His muscles became tense and he felt hot. He paced back and forth in the empty living room. Each breath or sniff had you all in it. Each time he moved, the fabric of his clothes that glided across him felt like torture. The movement didn’t quell his ailment, it only made it worse. Florian needed a more personal touch.
Suddenly, something struck him. There was something else. His head lifted to the ceiling, his nose itching and his skin practically vibrating. He looked at the wall as if he could see you through it.
You grasped your own thick curls as the ball in your core seemed to tighten. There was a loud banging on your door. Your eyes snapped open as you pulled the vibrator out of you. He was closer. You shuddered as you got up from your seat, your arousal squishing as you took small steps. You pulled your dress down as you got closer to the door. The leather scent slapped you in the face and beckoned you to open the door. There was another loud knock, almost as if he was beating against the door. Needy, just like you were.
“Hello?” you said, your voice shaking.
“My name is Florian...I just moved in across the way.” he said. You clocked the thick German accent and it made you want him even more. “What’s your name?”
“Y/N.” you spoke.
“Y/N.” Florian repeated as if it was the verse of a song. He licked his lips, now having your name to bounce around in his head.
Florian bounced on his feet, eager and anxious. His jaw was locked and it was like he had been standing there for eternity. He kept his hands in his pockets to stop him from grabbing the knob and forcing it open himself.
Neither of you knew what to say. You stood there, drowning in each other’s scents. Both of you torturing yourself with your piece of wood between you. You yearned more, squeezing your legs together. Your heat was at it’s absolute worse right now. He was just beyond the door. This could be your chance. His scent was driving you crazy. Your skin felt like static. You balled your hands into fists, trying to show restraint but, you knew he’d feel good inside of you.
“Why don’t you open the door?” he said. His voice just as deep and as strong as his scent. Your skin itched and the room began to spin. Your muscles reacted on their own at the demand. You unlocked the door and before you could pull it open, you felt a force push against you.
Florian pushed his way in, causing you to stumble back. In a swift movement, he shut the door, locked it, and pulled you close. He took a long sniff of you. The sweet cinnamon-like smell. He let out a low growl as he dragged his nose across the crook of her neck and to your shoulder. He grabbed you by your neck, forcing you into a kiss. You knees practically buckled, but his arm around your waist kept you upright. His tongue battling with yours. You grabbed fistfuls of shirt, moaning. Your legs gave more, forcing him to hold you up. His right hand left your neck, grabbing the back of your thigh and your ass cheek. You moaned, struggling as he kept you against him and groped you. “No panties, huh? You’ve been really needing a fucking.” His arm and fingers extended, finding your dripping entrance. He dipped into you with two fingers making you moan. However, you knew it wouldn’t be enough, you still enjoyed it. You yelped as you began to bend back at his weight. You buried your face into his neck with your cheeks warm with embarrassment and shuddering.
You gasped as he forced you further into the room. You pulled away to push against him, but he grabbed your wrists. Not before licking his fingers clean of you. Your back met your couch, your legs falling open as he got on top of you. He licked along your collarbone as he gripped your wrists, holding you down. You mewled under him as you twisted. Florian grabbed the backs of your knees, spreading you for him. Your arousal was apparent as it had spread over your lips and part of your thighs.
Florian didn’t waste time, plunging his tongue into you. You cried out as you tried to turn. Florian held you in place, his nails digging into your thighs but, it was more pleasurable than painful. His tongue lapped at your folds, wildly. Like he was starved and seeking to be fed. “You taste just as good as you smell.” he huffed. “I’m going to enjoy this.”
You arched your back as your clit was assaulted. Your toes pointed as you screamed, the crown of your head, pressing into the small pillow. Your core tightened and you were soon to erupt. You clenched whatever you could grab as you started to pull away from him. He yanked you back, a furious look in his eyes. “You don’t get to run away.” Florian’s fingers plunged into you, feeling around your walls as he lapped at your nub. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head as you came. Your breath got caught in your throat, your voice not even projecting. Florian kept his tongue to you as you tried to pull away. Your hips bucked as you were overwhelmed. “Please! Okay! Okay!”
Florian pulled away from you, licking his lips and savoring every drop of you that may have been stuck to him. You looked up at him, needing him to make another move. You met him halfway for a kiss. You savored the taste that remained of you. His tongue slipped into your mouth again, immediately battling for control. Control of which you had already given him. You were yanked up and put over his shoulder. He carted you like dead weight to your bedroom. You yelped as you were thrown on the bed. Florian toed his shoes off as he watched you. You throbbed more as you know you’d get what was going to cure you. Florian took off his shirt and undid his pants, letting them sit on his hips.
Florian collapsed back on top of you, kissing you and biting on your lip. His hands gripped your breasts. You moaned as they felt so sensitive. He huffed as he ripped the fabric of your dress, forcing the spaghetti straps down your arms and ripping your strapless bra. He licked along your nipples and kissed tenderly along your breasts. He fondled your other breast, pinching your nipples and teasing you.
“Fuck.” you moaned. Florian moved to the other breast. You were sure there would be bruises on your breasts and you were okay with that. Florian marveled at his work, leaving marks on you.
Florian kissed your lips again, taking a huge whiff of your scent. He pushed down his briefs and his jeans. You felt his member tap against you. Your dress had pooled at your waist as Florian stood up, placing a hand on your neck. You kept your legs open, staring at him. He was a nice length, extremely girthy and veiny. His tip a bright pink and dripping precum. He positioned one hand by your head and held his member with the other. You grabbed onto his shoulders, as his tip went in first. You moaned as you settled into your mattress. However, the peace lasted for a short moment as he forced the rest of his length inside you.
“Ah!” you screamed. He didn’t even start slow. Your pussy was being assaulted and you were enjoying it. Florian pressed against you, his arms underneath your shoulders as he gripped the sheets. His hips plowed into you and he grunted in your ear.
“Damn it.” he groaned.
“Yes! Yes, yes!” you cried. Your legs wrapped around him as you submitted to this. Finally, your body was about to get the relief it needed. Florian kept his chin to the crook of your neck. Your scent and the moisture around him was driving him more. He licked along your neck, priming you. His strokes became rougher, more erratic.
“Florian!” you moaned.
“I know, baby. It’s coming.” he groaned. You tightened around him. You tried to think to prolong your orgasm, to resist. However, you became weaker with each thrust. You almost felt ashamed of yourself as you were about to give in so easily. Your nails scratched along his shoulders but Florian only enjoyed the pain.
The pads of your toes, planting into his skin. Your muscles tightened with each time your hips met. You contracted around him, squeezing him tight. “Fuck.” he grunted. He began to twitch inside you and knew he didn’t have long. However, you started to arch and cry. He felt you release on him, engulfing him in your warm, wet mound. You lost all rhyme and reason and screamed through your orgasm and with Florian still pumping inside you, you were practically incoherent. Florian lifted off you as his head, lifted to the ceiling and he let out a loud growl through clenched teeth, releasing inside you. At the last thrust, he remained inside you, filling you with his seed.
You both were still, catching your breath and letting the sweat drip and roll off of you. You squeezed your breasts, your body being relieved slowly of the previous symptoms. You wanted to speak but, Florian started to turn you over. Your legs were weak but, somehow once he placed you on your knees, you stayed there. You still felt him inside you and weren’t sure you could take him again. However, your body was telling you otherwise.
Florian leaned down over you, his nose buried in your mess of curls. Past the jojoba fragance, he still got that cinnamon scent. You heard the jingle of his belt buckle and a light thud coming from your floor. Now stripped completely, his hands gripped your waist as he slowly started to move. You let out a cry as you gripped the sheets. You let out a high pitched whine as you lifted out of the arch in your back.
“Uh-uh.” Florian said. You sighed, arching yourself against to meet him. You felt like he was going further into you. Your body was on fire but, instead of pain, it was pleasure like you had never known. Every thrust and inch of him was lifting you to heaven and dragging you back to earth.
“Florian.” you moaned. His response was a series of hard thrusts that rocked your bed. Your cries made him slam into you more. Florian’s thumbs dug into the small of your back. You twisted your head to the side as you tried to look back at him. Florian looked rabid as he pushed his hips into you. Your legs began to shake as your toes curled, pushing into the mattress. You couldn’t help it anymore.
Florian’s movements became more messy, less coordinated. He began to falter as he twitched inside you again. He became more vocal. His voice filling the room and the only thing you could hear. Again, you released. Your screams getting muffled in the mattress. Florian filled you again as he collapsed on top you. Your position lost and both of you, exhausted. Florian’s hand gripped your hip as if touching you was the only thing that was keeping him anchored.
You spread yourself underneath him, letting your arms reach out and your knees to face the headboard. Florian laid at your side, holding you. Having pulled out and as comfortable he could get, his eyes were fixed on the crook of your neck. The beads of sweat that coated the side of your face and neck called him. He shuttered as his teeth ached. He huffed in your ear, almost sounding hungry. His sight became focused. Part of him was still contemplating but, the other part had already claimed you as his, especially since he has pumped his seed into you twice. As you laid there seemingly giving in to this short rest, he wasn’t ready to let this end. His nails scratched into you, making you jump. You twisted back to look at him until he sat up.
“Stay on your side.” he said.
You followed his command, remaining on your side. He gripped the wet fabric of your torn dress that you both had truly forgotten about. You heard it rip and pop more as he pulled down your waist and legs. Florian lifted your leg as he kneeled in front of you. His eyes fixated on the mixture of you and him, leaking out. He scanned your body. Now, he had to marvel at the masterpiece that laid in front of him. He wasn’t going to waste this time. He leaned back over, kissing you. You moaned, the fire inside you reawakening with his touch. Florian pulled away, holding your leg up and to his torso. You looked over and saw his member, half hard. Even still, it was intimidating.
Florian stroked it a bit and rubbed this tip against your wet slit. A mixture of you and him was spread around. You winced a little as he slid in. You gasped as your first instinct was to turn over. His large hand clamped down on your hip as he held you in place. You threw your head back as he rolled his hip into you at first, slow and tender. You gave out small sighs and moans as you gripped the sheets. The stretch in your hip added to the resistance as you wanted to last longer this time. However, your already tender pussy was at Florian’s mercy. One hand held her knee to his chest and the other rested on your lower stomach. His hips moved faster into you.
“Florian.” you harped. “This feels so good.”
“You like it?” he huffed.
“Yes. Keep going. Don’t stop.” you said. He looked at you, eyes clouded in lust and euphoria on your face. Florian leaned over and massaged your breast. He was hypnotized by the way it jiggled and bounced. He licked his lips, watching you. Your toes flexed as you through your head back. You bit your lip, muffling your moans and allowing your eyes to roll to the back of your head. Your body was singing with joy as his pelvis connected with yours every time. Florian twitched inside you, his nails pushing into your skin. You tightened around him, whining as the pressure was becoming too great. Your orgasm hit you like an eruption. You screamed as you placed a hand on Florian’s torso. “Fuck! Okay! Okay!” you cried as you pushed away from him.
Florian grabbed your hand, yanking you forward. Your body was now at an angle and you were trapped in front of him as he fucked into you, chasing his release. You cried into the sheets as your entrance throbbed, aching at the amount of sweet torture you were going through. “Florian” you cried, now clawing at his waist.
“Fuck!” he hissed as he shot into you. He remained still before dropping your leg and falling adjacent to you. You both laid there breathless. You squeezed your legs together, riding out your high, head hanging off the bed. Florian quickly collected himself, crawling on top of you. You moaned as he brought you into a kiss. It was passionate and loving.
Your legs wrapped around him again. His hand smoothed your curls from your face. He moved, kissing your chin and down your neck. You scooted down, placing yourself more on the mattress. Florian sniffed you again. He could smell himself on you now. A perfect mix. This alone was proving what he needed to know. Florian jumped when he felt your soft hand wrap around his member. You stroked, feeling it stiffen in his hands. Florian grunted above you. He dropped, dipping his nose back onto your collarbone.
You gasped as in one swift movement Florian had brought you up. You were in his lap, legs still around him. He trapped you in another deep kiss. His hands traveled down to your ass, lifting you up. You held his dick in position with your interest. Florian brought you down on him. You moaned in his mouth. Florian let you sit there, pulling on your lip. Your hands resting on his broad shoulders.
Florian moved you against him. You angled your hips for him, his wide member grazing your g-spot each time. You wrapped your arms around his thick neck, letting him rest in your breasts. He craned his head to suck on your breast as you bounced on him. You scratched along his shoulders, huffing as you couldn’t even control your own body. Florian was doing all the work, pushing you up and bringing you back down. With each slap of skin, you yelped and whined.
Florian buried himself in you as much as he could. He grunted as you engulfed him. Your walls squeezed and released him at a pace that was sure to make him finish soon. Your head flew back. You were so delirious that he was the only thing you felt. You had no idea what time it was and you couldn’t even really remember how you ended up like this. The only thing that matter was Florian was about to be the cause of whatever number climax that was coming. Now, instead off bouncing him. he was forcing you to work your hips, rolling into him and it felt even better.
Florian’s eye twitched. He shook as his orgasm neared. His grunts got loud again. You matched his volume. You each had the other’s name on your lips. Florian pushed you off to look at you. You were glistening and glowing at the same time. His brows furrowed as you jerked.
“I’m about to come.” you cried. Tears running down your cheeks. Florian pulled you back up, licking your face and kissing along your neck. It was that spot again. He flattened his tongue, brushing over your skin like he was preparing you. In reality, he was. He waited until you gritted your teeth and let out a cry. He opened his mouth and with a snarl, bit into you. You gasping, jumping forward with almost enough force to push both of you forward. It wasn’t just your orgasm that had rippled through your body. You got this new feeling and your pleasure only added to it. Florian lifted you up as he shot into you. You both fell still again. Coming down from your highs, your neck ached more so than the rest of your body. Florian fell over like a tree falling in the woods.
Neither of you spoke. Just the sounds of your breath and the occasional bed creak when one of you tried to move. You were still wrapped around Florian. His fingers trailed up and down your spine. Your eyes closed, you started to drift off from the exhaustion. You didn’t even become alert when Florian managed to break from you and drag the large throw blanket at the end of your bed and drape it over the both of you. The last thing you felt was Florian’s fingers graze over where he bit you and soon slumber consumed you.
You stirred, hours later. It was dark outside and rain on your windows. You sniffled, easing out of bed. Your body was sore causing you to waddle to your bathroom. You cut the light on the find your hair a mess, eyes puffy, bruises littering your neck and breasts and of course, the mark that now bound you to Florian. You nearly jumped when his arms snaked around your waist. You moaned as his lips kissed along your shoulder.
After the quick shower, you and Florian were intertwined on your couch. He made a quick run to his apartment and came back in a wife beater and joggers. Him holding you close to him felt right. You thought about how this all changed so quickly. You were expecting the next few days to be a struggle. Then, all it took was for the guy next door to come over and change that. You buried your nose in his chest, the harsh leather smell hitting your nose. Florian chuckled because he knew what you were doing. He leaned in, putting his nose in your still drying hair. He liked the smell of your leave-in conditioner with your cinnamon scent. He licked his lips at how delicious you smelled, almost ready to ravage you again.
Your shoulder itched. You winced going to reach for it. Florian shifted watching you.
“You okay?” he asked.
“Yeah.” you said.
“You hungry, baby?” Florian asked. The tenderness of his voice was welcome. It made you smile. You chuckled.
“I know a pizza spot that should still be open. Is that okay?” you said, looking up at him.
Florian smiled as he sat up with you still on his chest. “I love pizza.”

Unison Chapter 3- All I Want to do is Try and Make a Connection
After a bit of a wait it's finally here! Thank you for the ongoing support!
As always feedback, comments, questions are more than welcome!
Don't forget to Like/Reblog!
My mind raced as Ed led me to his room. I'm going up to Ed Sheeran's hotel room. I wonder how many times he's -you know what, no don't go there. Definitely don't go there.
"It's not as many as you're thinking."
His voice pulled me out of my thoughts. We were standing in front of the elevator, waiting for its descent to our level. The entire lobby was vacant so we didn't really have to worry about eavesdropping.
"What?"
He gave me a crooked grin "So you weren't just thinking 'I wonder how many times he's brought girls back' Not as many as you think. While I did do the whole one night stand thing for a brief, and I do mean brief, spell, it made me feel..." He trailed off, searching for the right word to use. I, however, was one step ahead of him.
"More empty than you were already feeling." I finished for him, avoiding his gaze.
I heard a faint 'ooooh' of realisation come from him, picking up on the subtle hint that I had dropped with that statement. The noise drew my eyes to him. He looked much more relaxed and at ease now. Some of the playfulness I had saw earlier was starting to creep back. The elevator opened and he snagged my hand pulling me in, since I was still halfway wrapped up in my thoughts and hadn't noticed its arrival.
As the elevator rose, Ed dug through his pockets, pulling out his room key. When the movement stopped I made to walk out but he put his arm out to stop me.
"This isn't my floor." He said softly, intertwining his fingers with mine. "So you don't wander off while you're all up in your thoughts." He brought our hands up to his face, placing a kiss to the back of mine. His eyes gleaming with humor, a smile playing across his lips. If he wouldn't have stopped me I would have walked right off that elevator and kept right on walking. I'd like to say I would have noticed he wasn't beside me but I know myself. I wouldn't have until I was at the end of the hallway, asking which room number was his. Then the frantic turn around, the calling of his name and the confusion that comes after. It wasn't that I was thinking anything negative. I had about a thousand thoughts running through my head.
What would have happened if I hadn't sent that message tonight?
How would thing of progressed?
How did he picture our first date?
Hell, how did I picture it for that matter?
I closed my eyes. I could see a small restaurant. Small square table, with crisp white linen table clothes and plates to match. Floors a smooth dark wood that had matched wood that made up the lower part of the wall and the trim. The other half being a cream color, with small lamps placed every couple of feet, giving a soft, intimate light. There was also track lights on the ceiling to provide just a bit more light. Not dim enough to make you squint to see your dining partner, but not overly harsh. Small, cozy, fancy, yet, not overly so. I could picture Ed, wearing a dark button up shirt, reaching for his glass of wine. Laughing, his hand gesturing as he animatedly told his story. I catch myself smiling at the thought of it.
I forced myself back into the real world just in time to see a couple businessmen enter. Ed nodded in their direction, asking them if they were headed for the ground floor. He hit the button for them and made polite small talk as the elevator ascended to his level. When it finally reached the level, Ed bid the men a good morning before we walked off. Keeping his word, his hand never let go of mine, however my thoughts were firmly planted on the ground. We were in front of his door, he paused before inserting the key.
"I hadn't planned on company so I haven't really picked up after myself..." He looked a little guilty with a splash of shame. I picture takeout and pizza boxes scattered about, half empty cans of soda, random snack packages littering the floor.
"I'm not here to judge you on your housekeeping skills. I'm here for the Simpsons and your company. Just open the door."
He slides the keycard in and pushes the door open. He enters before me, just so he could hold the door open. Such a gentleman.
"Welcome to my temporary home. Again, sorry for the mess."
My mouth dropped open and it had nothing to do with state of the room and everything to do with the room itself. The huge windows catch my eye right off the bat. The view was spectacular. The sun had just started to properly rise, causing brilliant shades of oranges and yellow to burst across the sky, chasing away the dark blues hues of night, ushering in a new day. I pull my eyes away from the view and focus inside. This isn't a room, this is a penthouse. The walls were an antique cream color and the floors was a mix of woods in complimentary shades of dark browns and greys. There was a white sectional leather sofa, in the far right corner with a love seat across from in. A glass coffee table sat in the middle of the area, a laptop resting upon it and various papers scattered across the surface. A large television sat on the other side of the room. Beside it I see a door, presumably to the bedroom. Modern, yet, classic. To my left there small, but fully functioning kitchen The countertops were white marble, the cabinets a dark wood. All the appliances were a sleek grey. There was three small lights hanging over the sink/bar providing the entire kitchen area with light. In front of the island there was a small square table that matched the cabinets and trim. Four white, incredibly comfortable looking chairs were around it. As for the mess, I didn't see it. There was a cozy, lived in feel. Shoes by the door, coat tossed on the couch. Papers scattered about. I had wandered into the room as I admired it. Ed had remained by the door, letting me look around.
I turn back to him "Oh, Ed, this room is amazing!"
"You should see the bathroom. Fucking amazing. You want the tour?"
I nodded, pulling off my jacket. Ed had did the same, taking mine out of my hand, he laid them on the back of one of the kitchen chairs. I told me I could put my shoes where ever, so I slipped them off and set them next to his. Wow, he has some big shoes. Next to his, mine look even smaller. Smiling he motioned for me to follow him. We head into the room beside the tv, which was the bedroom as I had thought. There was a thick plush creme colored carpet that I wiggled my toes in, savoring the feeling. There was a large, unmade bed. A huge white fluffy duvet crumped up at the foot of the bed. The pillows in disarray. I wonder if he had a bad night's sleep? The headboard was an upholstered grey. Nightstand flanked each side of the bed, with a white lamp on each of them. The panoramic windows spanned into here as well. There were clothes laying about crumped in various spots on the floor. There was another tv mounted to the wall, underneath was a dresser that matched the black nightstands. A drawer was cracked open. I could see a mess of socks and other under garments.
He wasn't exaggerating about the bathroom. Everything was a light brown tile The sink, the floors, the walls. A Jacuzzi tub? Holy hell. The tub was on a raised platform, big enough for two people to sit comfortably. I could picture us relaxing, the tub filled with suds, glasses of wine in hand. The shower was huge as well, glass doors, gold trim.
"Oh that tub..." my voice bouncing off the walls, echoing my wonderment back to us.
"It's great. I've totally fallen asleep in there." A sheepish grin adorned his face, He must have ran his hand through his hair since it was even messier than usual.
"I can believe it. I'm a firm believer that a good soak can cure almost anything."
"I agree with that. I've written some of my best songs in the tub." I pictured him lounging in a tub, guitar in hand, strumming a couple chords, wrinkling his nose at the sound, trying a different variations until he found one he was satisfied with, quick to reach over and scribble it down in a notebook. I realise that's probably not what he meant by coming up with them in the tub, but the image was a humorous one either way.
We had made our way back into the living room. The sun was fully up now bathing the room in a gorgeous light. It promised to be a beautiful day. Ed motioned for me to sit on the sofa as he dug through the cabinets. I hear running water, then a soft clang as he set a kettle on the range. There was two softer clinks as he set down two cups. I found the remote buried under a pile of papers. My eyes skimmed over the papers. Whatever he had written was crossed out. Brushing them aside I turn the tv on, flipping through the channels. He had sat two cups of tea down on the coffee table, going back to fetch the sugar.
"I wasn't sure how you like your tea so...well, I don't even know if you like tea but its proper to make some for someone who's a guest." I reach for a sugar packet, shaking it slightly before ripping it open and pouring it in my cup. He snagged up the remote and within a few clicks The Simpsons opening theme was playing across the screen. I had tucked my feet up underneath myself, sipping on my tea. Ed sat next to me, his feet propped up on the table. One hand wrapped around his cup, the other resting on the back of the couch. Within a couple episodes, the tea was gone and I was resting my head on his shoulder. His arm had wrapped around me, his fingers idly playing with a few strands of my hair.
We spent the entire day in his suite. When we had started getting hungry, he called up some food. When a box of pizza showed up, with a bag of fries I couldn't help but laugh.
"I promised you pizza and chips and I am a man of my word." He placed the fries on my slice before handing it over. Eyebrow cocked he watched as I took a bite, the cheese, sauce, pepperoni and potato coming together in my mouth. "Well? What do you think?"
I stare at the slice, letting the flavors run over my tongue. I swallow before I decided I left him in suspense long enough. “This is delicious!"
"Yes!" He had done a small fist pump, his face beaming, "See, I knew I liked you for a reason!" he pointed his finger my way, shaking it slightly as he nodded. His eyes squinted slightly, mouth pulled in a sideways smile that could only be described as a 'they know what's up' expression.
He poured the rest of the fries over the pizza, grabbing a slice for himself. He took the first bite with gusto. I found watching him eat was just as enjoyable as the food itself. I smiled as a bit of cheese clung to his chin. I reached across the table and pull the cheese off. I lick it off my finger before grabbing another slice for myself. It was only after his eyes had flicked from my mouth to my fingers did I realise what exactly I had did.
"God, you're gorgeous."
I stopped mid chew. In my minds eye there was fries sticking out of my mouth, cheeks packed full like a chipmunk. Sauce smeared everywhere. You know how animators draw their characters when they're chowing down? Just like that. While in reality there was just a small bit cheese stuck to my face and sauce at the corners of my mouth.
"Whut?" My mouth still full so it came out pretty muffled. I definitely hadn't felt that gorgeous. Messy hair, sleepwear, bits of pizza stuck to my face. Now I'm not as obsessed with my appearance as some, but I do like to look my best. This wasn't it.
"You're fucking gorgeous." He repeated, "Not many women would show up in pajamas to a diner. Nor would they be attacking that pizza like you are. They'd be shy, proper. Dressed in their best clothes, hiding behind makeup, eating salads with little nibbles." He mimicked how he thought girls ate their pizza, with the daintiest bite, covering his mouth as he chewed, causing me to do a pretty unladylike snort. He swallowed and continued. "This, well this takes confidence and that's the key, innit?"
I put my slice back down in the box, reach for a napkin and wipe my fingers off slowly before dropping it on the table. "Well, I hate to disappoint, but I was almost that woman. Well, the whole fancy clothes, makeup bit anyway. But I will always enjoy my food. No dainty bites here."
"Mmm, but you still did it and that's what matters." After the pizza had been cleared away, we went back to the couch, with one minor adjustment. Ed had pulled the duvet off the bed and threw it over us as we continued watching. I pulled it up to my chin, wiggling around to get into a comfortable position. There was no hesitation this time as soon as he sat down I snuggled close. I rested my hand on his chest, the other snaked around his torso, head on his shoulder.
I don't know when I had fell asleep but I knew it was bound to happen. Full stomach, warm blanket. I vaguely remember Ed gently waking me up asking if I'd be more comfortable in bed. I had somehow wormed my way down into his lap. His fingers were running through my hair in a slow relaxing rhythm. I smiled at the memory of it. As I slowly gain more consciousness I realise his arms are around me. I could feel his breath on my face, light and steady, causing my hair to tickle my nose. I wiggle it, not really wanting to move too much and wake him. I open my eyes to find his face nearly touching mine. His face completely relaxed, peaceful, content. I take it in. The glorious mess of ginger hair standing out against the white linen. His ridiculously long eyelashes. Seriously, why do men have such long eyelashes? The light ginger freckles that were sprinkled across his cheeks. The light chest hair just peaking out from underneath his shirt, barely noticeable due to the colored ink. Hmm, his chest is tatted too. I tried to roll over and I heard him moan, tightening his grip in defiance, his eyebrows coming together. I felt a tug inside. People are the most vulnerable as they sleep and he was holding on to me like I was a salvation in a choppy sea. I place a kiss on his forehead, my fingers running through his hair. I laid there for a moment, soaking in every bit of this I could. It had been well over a year since I'd just enjoyed sleeping next to someone. I missed it as much as I hated to admit it.
I turn over as carefully as possible, another disgruntled moan, looking for my phone. Right on the nightstand, he must have put it there knowing I'd be searching for it as soon as I woke up. Smart boy. I grab it, looking at the time. 8:45 am. I stare at it blankly for a second. At least my sleep schedule is back on track. Wait. That means it's Monday.
"Oh fuck! It's Monday!" I flew up, tossing the duvet aside. Ed groggily rolled over, searching for any source of heat. He tugged the duvet to him, scrambling to stay warm.
"Shh, come back to bed." His voice thick with sleep. His hands came out, pulling my hips closer to him, trying to get me to lie back down. As tempting as it was, I really couldn’t afford to miss any work. I brush them off, hearing the sad dull thud of rejection as they hit the mattress.
"I've got to be at work in fifteen minutes!” I was up on my feet in a rush, frantically looking at my attire. “Fucking hell, I'm not dressed for work.” I groaned “ I'm not even wearing a bra for Christ's sake!"
Ed instantly became alert when I said work. His eyes snapped open, already alert, all signs of sleepiness gone. By looking at him your wouldn’t have had a clue only moment ago he was half out of it asking for a longer sleep in. The only thing that might have been a giveaway was the sleep tousled hair. He launched himself out of bed, heading to his closet.
I hear the coat hangers shuffle across the rack as he flicked through. There was a pause,"Wait, you're not wearing a bra?" There was a sly lilt to his voice.
I had been searching for my socks that had came off my feet as I slept. "Hey, you said come as you are and I wasn't wearing one at the time." In my hurry I had completely shoved the duvet off the bed has my hands skittered about the mattress feeling for an out of place lump.
"Well aren't you a naughty girl." I heard the door click close, his feet shuffling across the floor. He held out a white t-shirt for me to take. "Here, go put this one while I look for your socks." He eyed the fallen bedding.
I take the offered shirt and bee lined to the bathroom. I slipped my shirt off, dropping it on the floor. I pulled his over my head. Well its better than what I was wearing but it doesn't hide the fact that I’m braless.
I walk back into his bedroom and he's clutching my bright blue socks. He gives me a quick glance over. "Yep, you're definitely not wearing a bra." I scowl and cross my arms. He puts up a finger and goes back to his closet. After a bit of shuffling he hands me a black and blue flannel. I slip it on and his fingers come up, making quick work of the buttons. "There. It's a bit on the thick side so it shouldn't be noticeable." His voice low. I could feel the surge of chemistry humming between us. My breath caught in my throat as I stare up in those brillant blue eyes. I noted that they were a misty grey color today. Fitting since I get lost in them so easily. His fingers still lingering at that top button. After a few seconds he clears his throat and pulls away. "You'd best get a move on. We don't want you to be late." As much as I didn't want to, I stepped back, taking a breath as I did so. Why in the absolute fucking hell didn't you kiss him Adi?!
"I'll message you when I'm on break, okay?"
He slipped my glasses on my face, nodding in satisfaction. "Sounds good, now go on."
I grab my jacket from the back of the chair and cram my feet into my tennis shoes, wiggling them until they gave in and let my feet slide into place. I go to leave, my hand on the knob, but I turn back.
"I forgot something."
"What?" He turned back around scanning over the flat, looking for my wayward item.
"This." I grab him and kiss him, his surprise evident, but quickly forgotten. "You can plan the next date." I say with a wink before rushing out the door. The last thing I saw was that crooked grin before the door closed.
********************************************************************** Ed's POV
I stood staring at the now closed door, still feeling her lips against mine. I felt a bit guilty as I ordered room service, knowing she didn't get a chance to eat. As I waited I started gathering up all the rubbish that I had been neglecting to throw out over the past couple of days. I threw empty liquor bottle after empty liquor bottle in the bin, growing more disgusted with myself as I did so. As much as I played it off, I was appalled that Adi had saw my room in this state. She most likely wrote it off as 'Oh he's famous, he probably throws some wicked parties'. I don't know which I find worse. The fact she could see me as a wild drunken rock star or the truth. That I had drank all of these myself because everything was just too much to bear. I could hear the bottles clinking as I carried them over to the door. The sound of disappointment.
After I decided to take a year off, I had cut ties with everyone. I rationalized it as I've toured for five years, we all deserve a break. While it sounded good, that wasn't the whole reason. I had became too reliant on my pain erasers. I was finding myself reaching for the bottle more and more. It was a nasty downward spiral and I didn't want them to see just how far I had fallen. They neglect to tell you that while everyone in the world may know your name, you'll never feel more lonely. The more they know of you, the less they know you. Nobody wants to hear the whingings of a rich, successful person who's living their dream.
'How can you be upset when you've all this money.' More money, more people come banging on your door asking for it. They don't want to know what you've been up to, how you've been. They want to know how they can benefit from knowing me.
'You're out living your dream, doing what you love. You know how many would kill for that chance?' Yeah, maybe I'm lucky. I go, sing a few songs and get handed a big fat check. Easy peasy. Or maybe I worked my ass off, sacrificed alot to get to where I am. This didn't happen over night.
'You sound like a real prat going on about how it's lonely when you could have your choice of so many women.' Oh, sure I get my pick of the ladies. Of course, they're expecting this perfect rom com version that I just can't live up to. There's just too much pressure to be perfect and there is no way in hell I can live up to that. If that makes me sound jilted, so be it. Hell, maybe I am.
After a while, you just stop trying.
Then here she comes crashing into my life. I had been so wrapped up in conversation I had had with my dad earlier that day that I wasn't paying attention to what was going on around me and crashed right into somebody. Thinking I was going to have to put my powers of persuasion to the test, since I assumed I ran into a big metal head, I started coming up with what to say. I wasn't expecting to have run into a petite woman. Instinctively I grab on to her so she doesn't fall. I see her mouth open but the next band had drowned out whatever she had started to say. I gave her a thumbs up to show her it's all good, no harm done. She returned it, an embarassed smile on her face before continuing on her way. I didn't notice she had spilled a majority of her beer until after she had left.
When I had finally found her, after an extremely helpful patron had pointed out there was a whole rooftop patio. There she was, not sitting at a table among a group of people like I had anticipated, chatting and laughing about whatever. She was alone, perched on the edge of the roof looking down on all the rambunctious people on the street. I could only see half of her face, but there was a distant look that I knew so well. That look had vanished as soon as I spoke and she faced me.
Her hair was dark and sleek, hanging a bit below shoulders, the light bouncing off of it. Her eyes a captivating mixture of green and brown that brought to mind a vast forest, promising to be as strong and resilient and just as easy to get lost in. The way she'd cocked that eyebrow up, the way the right side of her mouth came up in a slight smirk. Her voice, silvery, with a slight smoky edge. If good whisky had a voice. I almost lose my nerve. She's stunning, there's no way I have a shot.
She introduced herself. That smirk still on her face. She was obviously enjoying herself Well, it was nice being some random stranger. I took her hand and introduced myself. "Now you're not a stranger anymore," A glint of playfulness danced across her features, "You're Ed. How 'bout we get that drink, yeah?" There was no slight eye widening, no mouth opening. No awe. No wonder. Holy hell, she has no clue who I am. There is no way I got this lucky.
"Y’know what Ed? You're, well you're pretty fantastic." I see her reach over the bar grabbing the bartender's pen and a bar napkin. She starts scribbling her name and number on it, "Here, this is my number," She presses it against her lips, leaving a faint reddish pink lip outline before sliding it my way.” I really hope to hear from you." She walked out the door into the cab I had called for her. I quickly fold it carefully, slipping it into my pocket, snagging her jacket that she had left behind on the stool. I hurry to catch up with her. I help her get into her cab. I leaned in to put her jacket on her lap. She giggled as I did so, placing a quick kiss on my cheek. "I should send your mother some- some flowers. She raised a proper gent." The way she blinked up at me, a lopsided grin on her face, her fingers lightly tapping my chest in an overdramatic way, swaying a bit. Not to mention her poor attempt at a British accent when she said proper gent. It was the first time in a long while I had felt the comment was sincere, not just because of my image.
I woke up the next morning with my head pounding. If you could really call it morning, it was almost noon. I shield my eyes from the light pouring in from the window. I didn't feel as despicable and pathetic as I usually did coming off a drunk. I rolled over, seeing the napkin folded on my nightstand. I smiled, remembering how she would lean over the table and say random words when I was drawing back to shoot. The way her hips moved as she danced around the cue. Then just forgetting the cue entirely, hands waving in the air, huge grin plastered on her face as she danced to a beat only she could hear. All too quickly reality set in. How long do I have before she figures out who I am and this all comes crashing down? I pick up the napkin and stare at it. Looking at the perfect lip print right below her number. Those lips had been pressed on my cheek. 'You're a proper gent.' A proper gent would message to see if she was okay. I type out a message, my thumb hovering over the send button. How long am I going to drag this out for? Once she knows who I am, it's going to change. You're just going to make it worse on yourself in the end. If it can even get worse. Binders in hotel rooms are about as low as you can go. There was one ember of optimism left in me that said give it a shot.
After the message sent I started doing my usual morning routine. Teeth, shower, breakfast. While the shower calmed my nerves and alleviated some of my headache, I still felt like someone had filled me with cotton. I ignored my phone for as long as I could, until curiosity had gotten the better of me and I opened her response. I hadn't realised I was holding my breath until I let it out. Well, no outburst of are you Ed Sheeran yet. That's promising. When her late night text came through as I was riding in a taxi to a diner. I was taken by surprise. I was still getting used to the time difference so my sleep schedule was a little off, still in sync with back home. However that surprise was nothing compared to the surprise of her asking to join me for breakfast. Of course she'd ask when you're out in your pyjamas. She'll look marvelous and I'll look like a bum off the street. I wonder if she'll come in pyjamas too...won't know unless I try...
She spotted me first. How is it she still managed to look stunning in a old faded lion king shirt and yoga pants? Hair thrown up in a careless bun. There was a look of apprehension on her face. I could feel my heart sink, assuming it was all because of who I was. When she got closer and I saw the scar it clicked. I look over the rest of her face. If she thought it made her any less beautiful, she was fooling herself. It was soon forgotten after we started talking.
Then she said the magic words. Can I ask you something? The way she was staring at her lap, fidgeting with her sleeve I knew it was something she found hard to ask. Then out pops Why me. So she does know who I am. I felt a bit disheartened at that, but her attitude hadn't changed since the previous night. So I decide to ask the question that had been burning a hole in me. Does this change things? The way her face remained neutral, I guess she had given this alot of thought. After her answer, I found myself able to enjoy myself.
I felt a little dirty that I had went out of my way to keep who I was away from her. While I hadn’t outright lied to her, there was a fair bit of subterfuge. When we were swapping drunken stories I had purposely picked ones with my mates back home. She didn’t seem bothered by it, I had expected questions like how’s it traveling the world? Who’s the coolest person you’ve met? Stupidest shit you’ve bought. No one bothers with the common first date questions since it’s all over the web. So when she asked, where’d you grow up? What’s your folks do? Siblings? I was happy to oblige.
It was nice to feel normal, so when the first group came stumbling in, I was a little irritated. Don’t get me wrong, I love my fans. I’ll never be rude or hateful towards anyone unless they absolutely deserve it. I know once I step outside, I pretty much belong to them. It doesn’t make it any less frustrating. So when one of them keeps eyeballing our table, I decide it’s probably best to leave.
I’m waiting for the waitress to bring back my card when the next wave comes in. I picked the right time to leave. Adi was leaning against the wall next to the door, flicking through something on her phone when some guy saunters up to her, looming over her. I could only see her face and she looked not only uninterested, but mildly annoyed. The way he towered over her, his stance, and her face told me this man was bad news. I felt a flicker of anger try and flare up. As soon as I got my card back I make my way to her, slipping my arm around her. I didn’t want him anywhere near her. As soon as I locked eyes with him I knew he wasn’t as drunk as he was pretending to be. I felt her hand come up, gently rubbing my back. She’s trying to soothe me. I push the door open, easing her out it.
I was on the assumption that this was the end of the night for us that now we'd go our separate ways. I was plesantly surprised when she offered to show me around the city, even if the shops were all closed and all we could do was walk by them. I slipped my hand around hers, letting her lead me along. She pointed out some of the landmarks, giving brief explainations of why the were so popular. Shops that she thought were worth a look, what had good food, what didn't and where to avoid if I wanted to fly under the radar. I made mental notes of each place she pointed out, forcing myself to remember them. Granted my memory is kind of poor, poorer of the late but I was certain I could remember the names. Even if I couldn't remember the location.
When she said she had one more place I knew it was the most significant by the way her eyes lit up. When we reached it, she had broke away, rushing ahead. I could help but smile at her as she ran to a decent sized fountain in the middle. Spinning around, her arms open wide a huge grin radiatiating across her face. It was a quaint park. There was plenty of room for people to put a blanket down and relax for a spell. I could see why she loved it so much. We sat on a black iron wrought bench the was in front of the fountain. When she handed me a penny, I felt touched that she was including me in something she found comforting. The way the lights reflected off the water on and onto her face as she had her eyes closed in combination with the bittersweet look she wore when she said her wish came true is what made me reach out and kiss her. With the fairy lights all around and the overall romantic ambience that came with this little park it seemed like the perfect opportunity. I might not be able to erase the bitter taste the past left behind but I can give you a pleasing one now.
We were standing in the lobby waiting for the elevator when I noticed her face pulled into a worrisome look. She knows nothing of my "good guy" reputation. She just knows I could go home with a different girl every night. I quickly put her fears to rest, assuring her I'm not the type. I tried but I quickly learned it wasn't sex I was wanting. I just wanted someone to care about me. Adi had said it perfectly. Each encounter left me feeling even worse about myself. She's been through something similar, how else would she know the feeling?. She was still wrapped up in her thoughts because as soon as the elevator stopped she was trying to walk off it. I grab her hand, really just looking for any excuse to keep her close. Whatever she was thinking of must have been pleasant, as she stared dreamily off.
Her amazement at my suite was so pure. She bounced around as I showed her everything. The envious look in her eye when I showed her the bathroom. For a second I thought I saw a flicker of lust. Well well, what's on your mind you naughty girl? The way she sat on the couch, flipping lazily through the channel as I prepared tea. The light falling on her, casting a glow around her. She had pulled down her hair, running her fingers through it, teasing it. There was a bit of wave due to it being pulled up. She was a stunning work of art. When that work of art dove into the pizza with such enthusiasm I couldn’t help but smile. I tucked in with my own slice, enjoying it even though I only had it the day before. When I had lowered the slice, her long delicate fingers came up to my chin, plucking a strand of cheese that had adhered itself to my face. Her eye’s glimmering in a warm way, a little smile upon her lips. She’s such a beautiful person.
Since she had snuggled up to me prior to the food, I pulled the duvet off the bed and over us to give us a more cozy feel. Her arms wrapped around me, holding me close. I ran my fingers through her hair absentmindedly as I watched the screen. After a couple episodes I could hear her breathing deepening as she drifted off. As her body relaxed she slipped down my torso, her head landed in my lap. She was snoring lightly, her mouth slightly open, hair sticking to my shirt and some to her face. I wonder if she’d rather sleep in her own bed? I lean down and softly whisper in her ear asking if she would be more comfortable in her own bed. She moaned, burying her self more in my lap. As carefully as I could I slide out from under her. I bend down, scooping her up in my arms and carry her to my bed. As much as I’d love to sleep beside her, I didn’t want to push it. The couch is plenty comfortable, seeing as how I usually fall asleep there most nights anyway. No, I can't really call that falling asleep. I need to face the facts and call it what it was, blacking out. When I went to pull away after I set her down, she grabbed onto my shirt a whiny no coming from her lips. I whispered in her ear that I’m just getting the duvet, I'd be right back. When I come back, she's curled in almost the fetal position, hugging herself. I expected her to spread out as soon as the duvet hit her but she still stayed in that little huddled ball. She didn't move an inch when I eased into bed. It wasn't until my arm draped over her did she roll over and place her forehead against my chest. We stayed that way for the rest of the night. Our breathing slowly falling in sync.
I could see light filtering in even through my closed eyelids but that wasn't what woke me up. Her fingers were running through my hair. Was she humming? I wanted to peak up at her but I didn't want her to know I was starting to come around. That's when I felt her lips press against my forehead. I conceal my smile until after she rolls over to check the time. The last little bit of peace before the chaos that insued after.
The rap on the door pulled me out of my thoughts. Ah, my food's here. I take the tray, set it on the table, thanking the man before closing the door. As I ate I thought back to when I was helping her with the flannel. It had felt like I was touching a live wire. Why didn't you kiss her? Are you mad?! The hurried kiss before she left more than made up for it. The way her hands came up to my face, her lips crashing on mine. The hestitation to pull away and the way she bit her bottom lip after. That little sexy smirk with the wink as she closed the door.
I heard a ping from my phone that was still sitting on the coffee table. I pluck it from its resting spot, flipping it open to see a message from Adi.
"I'm so sorry about having to rush out the way I did. Monday's can be hectic sometimes. I feel awful about it. I'll plan better next time."
That's right, I'm planning the next date. Maybe I should start fishing for some information so I can plan something extra special I type back "Don't worry about it, I understand completely. I felt like an ass since you had to scramble out of here in such a rush you didn't get to enjoy a decent meal."
"I usually eat here anyway so that's no big deal. However, showing up in men's clothing and no makeup caused the rumor mill to catch on fire. I'm playing twenty questions. What's his name? What's he do? What's he look like? Where'd you meet? Oooooh, you slept over? How about you stay in your lane and mind your own business CAROL. Vultures. Everyone of them."
I tsked at the first part of the message, picturing a banana or some other type of fruit as breakfast. Not if I have my way about it. I figured being seen in my clothes would raise some questions and I was curious how she would handle them. A thought crossed my mind. Since she's keeping who I actually am quiet, why not have a bit of fun. "You want to fuck with them? I'll feed you a load of crap to tell them."
"Omg, yes! Lay it on me!"
We spent a majority of the morning coming up with an elaborate backstory. By the time we were done my name was Kevin, I worked at the local supermarket but that was only to support my dream of being an artist/slam poet. My parents didn't approve of my dreams so I moved away to follow them. I've been out here for 2 years now and I've almost sold one painting, which was surprising considering I only painted using my left hand since creativity flows through your non dominant hand. Some of the ideas were beyond ridiculous like being a part of underground street races, her majesty's top spy, a vigilante who broke into people's homes just to play with their pets while they were away and an embassidor of Hogwarts.
Adi had been texting me their reactions towards Kevin throughout the day as I straightened up the suite. Apparently the reviews were mixed, while most had taken the good for him for not giving up on his dreams stance, one only wanted to know looks and if we'd shagged and one lectured her about how she needed to find someone who's feet were planted on the ground. Which she added thanks for the lecture I didn’t ask for Carol, causing me to snort as I sorted through my laundry.
With the dishes clean, papers that were spread across the coffee table were tucked away in a folder. Dirty laundry was put in a hamper bag, ready for me to wash. It may have been something small and simple but it felt like I was finally going in the right direction. For the first time in months I had written something down in my diary. It started as a way to remember all the stuff I did during that time but it soon because a habit. I stopped at the end of my last tour because I just stopped caring. I didn’t want to look back and remember such a dark times. After a brief summary of the weekend I ended it with this.
Will she be the torch that leads me out of the darkness or the inferno that consumes me, leaving nothing behind but devastation?

Welcome home, Deacon James!
Deacon moved into the 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house on Big Oak Road in 2018. Once he knew that Darby wasn’t coming back, he downsized, needing a little less space (and a little less cost) for just the three of them. On a single income, it was easier to move the kids into a smaller house while they were young.
Inside the front door, you’ll find a fairly standard living space. Deacon’s never been big on decor. He struggles just getting his kids in clothes that match, after all. Thankfully, his sister stepped in to help. Everything works together nicely in the house, the colors leaning toward soft beige and brown. There’s a large, overstuffed leather couch with plenty of love worn into it. It still looks pretty new, though, just softer in some places. There’s a television on the wall opposite the couch and a love seat next to it. Don’t mind the toys sprinkled throughout the house. He’s been trying to get the kids to clean up after themselves, but there never seems to be enough time to catch up on the chaos around here.
The living room table has four chairs at it, but if you slide the leaf in and pull chairs up to the ends, you can easily fit eight there. The island has a couple of bar stools tucked under one side and a dishwasher on the other. Granite was something he didn’t really hunt for, so the countertops are laminate and the backsplash is a simple white tile. He keeps things pretty clean on the counter, with just a toaster and a drying rack on the countertops. Everything else is tucked in the pantry or one of the cabinets so that the kids don’t manage to get into trouble.
Delaney’s room is a soft pink in color, everything girly and cute. She has white furniture and a dark pink bedspread with a pile of stuffed animals on top. Dylan’s room is much different, dark greens and browns with a hunting theme. His furniture is dark wood and sturdy, a green bedspread with animals printed on it over his bed.
Deacon’s room is pretty simple in comparison. While his sister had spent time pouring over the kids’ rooms, she wanted Deacon to have a place that felt like his own. The walls are white and the bedspread matches. His furniture is a little mismatched, mostly things he’s collected over the years. There’s a big wooden dresser that he inherited from his great uncle that might be the most expensive piece of furniture in the room.
Overall, the house has a good balance of natural light and privacy, something Deacon can definitely appreciate. In the back yard, there’s a swing set and a grill along with an outdoor dining set. Between the three of them, they don’t need a lot of space, but they definitely keep it filled to the brim with love and laughter.

Best kitchen ideas for small kitchens in 2017
STRIKING SHELF
Although his customers requested a bank of open shelving, designer Grant K. Gibson added a single ledge to their galley kitchen. "One shelf is easy and dynamic," he says. "You must be able to conceal mess, which manner, you'll be able to rotate your sets!"
GLASS DOORS
In Mark Egerstrom's 1,200-square-foot West Hollywood home, the wood floors of the kitchen extend out to a shower doors, creating adjoining deck through glass the illusion of a much larger . The walnut cabinetry was designed by Egerstrom: "It Is my take on old farmhouse kitchens, upgraded to the 21st century."
Space-Saving Sense
The owners with this American bungalow wanted to make their small kitchen exotic. Dark cupboards with brown-and-black tiger striping makes for a slick, contemporary appearance, while the light solid-surface backsplash creates a bold contrast. The design makes the most of very little countertop space having a wenge butcher block that slides over the sink. A dining table on casters enables an eight-seater when not in use to slip under the island.
Little Wonder
This homeowner, a top Realtor in the area, wanted a unique small space to show off to her customers. That is only what she got with all the dark shoji-style cabinets and custom round butcher block table on casters. The cooking range is flanked by floating shelves, which help to open up the tiny kitchen.
SATURATED COLOR
As was the roller protection by Manhattan Shade & Glass, Fine Paints of Europe lacquer in Bamboo Leaf the cupboards in this New York apartment by Miles Redd. Redd says, "We pumped up the color only a scootch and lacquered it to give it life." Even the Sub-Zero refrigerator is painted green.
MOVEABLE BAR
The galley kitchen in the New York flat of Juan Carretero got two doorways, one of which opens right into the living-room. To get counter space — and increase the viewpoint — a movable bar on casters spans the gap.
BLACK CABINETRY
In a Manhattan apartment, the prevailing kitchen cabinets were painted Benjamin Moore Aura in Black. "I wanted it to seem less boring and more like a good butler's pantry," designer Lilly Bunn says. The Roman shade is in Holland & Sherry's Belfour linen.
Kitchen Cabinets Toronto
WHITE CABINETRY
Ashley Whittaker gutted the kitchen of a Ny apartment, replacing the dark cabinetry and terra-cotta tiles with white cupboards and Carrara marble. "The room now feels doubly large," she says. The slim table provides additional counter space and doubles as a breakfast nook. Rather than recessed lighting, a birdcage lantern was chosen by her in the HomePort Collections. "It's whimsical," she describes. "When you're dealing with a small flat, why not make the kitchen feel like another adorned room?"
POT RACK
Pans that are bulky can take up precious property, so Katie Ridder installed the Industrial pot rack of Urban Archaeology . The elegant barstools from Cherner Chair Company are a 1958 layout by Norman Cherner and are cushioned in MK Collection's Summer Strié.

Star Crossed - Part 2 (H.S AU)
Maddie’s POV
The rest of my day was pretty uneventful. Grab the clothing item, fold, put in the box, repeat. Packing was tedious, to say the least. At dinner, I took note of Chuck’s absence. Did he just pack up and leave us? God, you really do exist. I’m sorry I haven’t been to church in like….9 years..oops? But hey, shout out to you homie for sending away all that is wrong in the world. Or, well..this house. My little prayer is cut short when my mom finally interrupts the only sounds that can be heard which are forks and knives knocking against our plates.
“Chuck won’t be joining us tonight, he’s on a business trip for the next few days.” WOO! This day just get’s better and better.
“How long is a ‘few days?’’ I gesture air quotes and raise an eyebrow at my mother.
“Until Saturday.”
I hum in response. On the outside I am calm, but I know that on the inside I am jumping up and down and spraying champagne everywhere. Maybe that’s a bit dramatic – but whatever it takes I am going to make the most of the time my family and I have without him in the house. As we finished dinner, plates ended up in the sink, and after my nightly routine, I had been reunited with my bed, before sleep spread throughout my body.
--------------------------
After waking up at 11 AM, and panicking because I was supposed to meet Niall at Starbucks at 12, as we agreed on once I was awake, I somehow ended up with some makeup on, as well as a cute outfit. I wore black jeans, black ankle boots, and a gray v neck shirt. I threw my hair up into a ponytail and pulled some little strands out in the front before grabbing my keys to my car, I drove off towards the Starbucks. The only Starbucks anywhere close to the pair of us was the one inside the neighboring city. We both lived in one of the suburban cities, called Adelton. Luckily, Dalton, the neighboring city was a short drive.
It didn’t take me long to get there because everyone was probably working so there wasn’t any traffic. I had made it to the door of the café by 11:56 and took a deep breath before slowly pushing it open, scanning the room for blonde hair and blue eyes. And then I saw him. He was sat at one of the little tables by the window, watching the cars go by in the heart of the city where we were. Eventually, his eyes met mine and a warm, welcoming smile made its way onto his face. I gathered up all the bravery I could muster before slowly walking towards him. He was quick to stand up, pushing his chair back, causing it to squeak as it skids across the floor.
“Hey! It’s nice to meet ye, Madeleine,” he offers, his arms stretching out for a hug. His accent is pretty interesting. I’ve never really heard accents apart from the ones here in the states. I awkwardly accept it, as strange as it may feel.
“You can just call me Maddie,” I pull back and force a smile back to him. He nods his head toward the chair as if he is asking me to sit, which I do.
“Crap, I’m sorry, you said that yesterday didn’t ye?”
“No, it’s no big deal, no worries Niall.” I offer him another smile, only this time it’s real.
We spent the next hour going over plans for our relocation day. As it turns out, Niall already lives in the house we’re expected to occupy together. Not only that, but he has three housemates. I was not just going to be living with Niall…I was going to be living with three other strangers. Not once have I heard of newly crossed pairs having housemates. I would say four strangers, but after talking to Niall even just for a few minutes, I felt it was wrong to address him as one. He was…kind.
“If ye want, and ye aren’t busy, you should stop by later and meet the lads. We’re having some friends over for a li’l get together tonight. It’d also be good for you to see the house so you have an idea of where you want to put yer stuff.”
I laugh a little. “Trust me, I have nothing to do other than pack my clothes, and I am really great at procrastinating, I’d be happy to stop by.” I smile.
“Great! I actually gotta go, ‘gotta start helping the boys get the house cleaned before people start comin’ over, they keep texting me – telling me to ‘clean my damn room,’” he chuckles, “but I’ll see you there at 5:30?”
“Ya, I’ll see you then.”

“There’s four of them?! How is that even possible?!” My mother scowls confusedly. Robin just giggles, from her spot next to my mom on the couch. I had to ask my mom if I could borrow her car because mine was running low on gas, and I forgot to fill the tank on the way home. Good job Maddie, 10/10.
“Don’t know, but I guess I’m gonna’ find out” I shrug, chuckling.
At that point, it was almost 4:30 so I had a little less than an hour to throw something together. Now, I am sat inside my mom’s white Volkswagen Touareg, parked in what’s supposed to be my new driveway. My fingers tap the steering wheel nervously. The house was huge and extremely beautiful. I had never seen a house this big, so I don’t know how in the hell my mom is helping pay for this. I don’t know what I did to deserve to move into this gorgeous house, to be honest. Sighing, I unbuckle my seatbelt and step out of the car, closing the door behind me and locking the vehicle, leaving it with the slew of cars in the driveway.
I walk up towards the mahogany double doors. The sun hasn’t quite gone down yet, but it leaves an orange glow across the white concrete of the walkway, and the white house itself. I knock lightly on the door, and tug on my olive green jacket lightly, then fidget with my keys while I wait for a response. I decided to just wear what I was wearing earlier, but threw on a little more makeup, and a jacket, because there was a bit of a breeze outside today. I’ve never really been one for first-encounters. In fact, I’m actually quite shy when meeting new people. What if they didn’t like me? What if they were annoyed that someone like me was getting to move into their nice house? I really hope no one is giving their room up for me, but I also don’t want to share a bed with someone I just met…
The door opens to reveal a giggling, crinkle-faced Niall Horan. Seeing him smile so big makes me break a small closed mouth smile on my own face.
“Hey! Glad you could make it!” He pulls me in for another hug, with one arm.
“Thank you for inviting me,” I chuckle, smiling and mumbling into his shoulder. I slide my keys into my jacket pocket.
“No, of course! I mean, after all, this is yer house too in a few days, so make yourself at home!” his tone is kind and welcoming. I guess living with him might not be as sufferable as I suspected. He nods his head towards the inside of the house and holds the door open for me.
I mumble a quick thank you as I step past him. Wow…the outside of the house was gorgeous, but the inside definitely has it beat. The walls are a shade of gray so light it almost looks white, and the floors a dark chocolate brown shade of wood paneling. Directly to the right is the kitchen – all white cabinets, and counters, white marble countertops, and an island much like the one in my childhood home, only the stools are metal, with light teal cushions. To the left, in the middle of the large open space, there are three gray couches with red square pillows surrounding a white marble coffee table – across from which is a fireplace, with a large tv mounted on the wall. Next to that, on the left are the stairs, which I am assuming lead up to the bedrooms. On the right of the fireplace is a large hallway, which Niall leads me through.
“The lads just went back outside to the backyard,” he scratches the back of his neck, as he walks backward whilst holding our conversation. I slide my hands into my back pants pockets and follow, “I figured it would be kind of intimidating if you walked in, and ‘dey were all just sitting around staring.” Wow, was it that obvious that I was socially awkward? I still appreciate the gesture though.
The heels of my boots click against the floor ten more times, and we’re in front of the glass doors that lead to the backyard. People are scattered at the bottom of the porch steps, in front of a large pool. The sun causes the water to glisten as it ripples. Fuck I have to talk to people. I compose my inner thoughts when Niall opens the door for me. Immediately all of the heads – male and female turn and look at us as we step out onto the porch. My eyes land on one guy in particular - whose long brown curls reach just above his broad shoulders. He’s wearing a white tee shirt, with tight black skinny jeans, and tan brown boots. I look back up at his face only to see him smiling lopsidedly, only making him even more handsome. Shit..He knows I was staring. I avert my gaze quickly and just look down at my feet until Niall speaks.
“Lads come here!” Niall chirps. My head pops back up into its natural position because within an instant, three guys are making their way over to Niall and me – handsome stranger included.
“Lads, this is Maddie, Maddie, these are your new housemates,” he nods towards the three people before me, standing at the bottom of the porch steps, smiling up at us. They seem friendly enough. I walk down, step by step.
“Nice to meet you, Maddie, I am Louis,” The one with light brown hair and blue eyes says. When he extends his right hand, I take it shaking it gently. My eyes flicker over to the next guy.
“Liam, good to meet you,” he offers a smile just as bright as Niall’s, shaking my hand just as Louis did. And then I look at him. He’s smiling, only this time it’s warm and inviting.
“Harry,” he says, shaking my hand. For a few seconds, I just stare, taking in his green eyes. They’re beautiful, almost a forest green, but slightly gold in the middle. I return a smile. Someone fake coughs, making me realize I am still holding his hand, I drop it quickly and wipe the awkward smile off my face. My hands make their way into my back pockets again as the nerves settle in once more.
Harry…I thought…not a bad name
Little did I know that very name and the face behind it would change my life forever.

What does a craftsman-style home look like? This is a beautiful and highly balanced approach to home interior design that most professionals in the field feel truly happy about. It is warm, welcoming and inviting. It focuses on fine details and impeccable executions. It’s the style you should choose if you want to turn your apartment into a real, cosy home.
So, what exactly does craftsman interior design entail? Here are some of the most outstanding and distinctive characteristics of the style.
The Origins of Craftsman Interior Design
Craftsman interior design relies on a lot of exquisite woodwork, custom cabinetry and the use of natural materials that can be turned into original pieces.
It’s the exact opposite of the mass-manufactured and readily accessible commercial decors of today.
Craftsman-style homes were popularised for the first time in the early 1900s. Leaders of the arts and crafts movement like Gustav Stickley and William Morris were also responsible for the introduction of this interior design style.
In those original years, a craftsman interior referred to home design that was practical, executed in harmony with nature and focused on locally-available materials.
Today, the craftsman interior design style is still based on many of those early elements. It employs simple shapes, a lot of wood, exposed joints, stylised fabrics depicting natural scenes (florals, animals, etc.,) and limited but well-executed ornamentation.
Craftsman Homes Today
The popularity of craftsman homes continues being high today because of their practical appeal.
Craftsman homes are clean and functional without being minimalist and completely sterile. This style maintains personality and warmth, without going in the realm of rustic or boho home décor executions.
In essence, craftsman interior designs bring the best of both worlds (modern and traditional) together.
The other aspect of craftsman interior design that appeals to many Singapore home owners is its originality.
Many of the pieces that a Singapore interior design company executing such a project will order are going to be custom-made. Hence, no two craftsman interior designs are similar. They carry a distinctive personality, they embody the spirit of the space and the views of the homeowner.
Defining Craftsman Interior Design Elements
We have mentioned some of the distinctive elements of craftsman decors already. Still, there are several other defining characteristics that deserve to be outlined.
Apart from wood, there are other materials that can be displayed prominently in a craftsman home. These include glass, stone, all kinds of metals, ceramic tiles and solid pieces of straight-lined furniture.
An interior executed in this style could feature a couple of elements like window seats, nooks and crannies equipped with functional elements, built-in smart storage solutions (hidden or folding shelves), panelled walls, open floor plans and columns or movable panels that define spaces.
Speaking of furniture, all of the pieces look prominent and they feature geometric shapes. Ornamentation is minimal, allowing the richness and the colour of the wood to shine through. Cast iron or other metal elements could be utilised as reinforcement or a bit of decorative work.
Upholstery isn’t very typical in the realm of craftsman interiors. Instead, leather and felt or suede are the preferred materials.
Light, Colour and Other Craftsman Elements
All of the colours used to execute a craftsman home are nature-inspired.
There’s the blue of the ocean, the green of the grass, orange and yellow coming from autumn leaves, brown, beige, pink and red.
Whenever dark tones are prominent, these can be lightened up a bit through the use of gold or other metallic. Shimmering effects and stained glass could be incorporated in the overall concept, giving it a bit of brightness and saturation.
As far as lights go, these are simple and functional. Fixtures aren’t excessively ornate – don’t expect to see a massive crystal chandelier into a craftsman home. Instead, look for brass or copper hammered fixtures.
Lamps are typically study and accent lights are utilised in functional areas (like above the kitchen countertop, for example). Heavy metal bases for freestanding lamps and geometric shape decorations are quite common for lights created during the peak of the craftsman era. Some of these authentic fixtures (just like some original furniture) are still available for purchase today.
All elements of the design in the realm of craftsman homes can be customised and enhanced to address the specifics of the space.
Storage areas hidden behind the wall panelling allow for order and effortless decluttering. Pull-out cabinets in the kitchen simplify the access to condiments, herbs and the other essentials required to prepare a tasty meal. Bedroom closets are integrated through the use of sliding doors that don’t occupy any space and allow the room to “breathe.”
These are just a few examples of custom-made solutions for craftsman homes in Singapore.
If you have a specific vision for your flat but you struggle finding the right furniture and home décor pieces in a store, a craftsman execution may be the right way to go.
It gives you the freedom to explore utilitarian, practical options or to even conceptualise your own furniture. And while most worry about the cost of custom-made solutions, these can prove to be more affordable and capable of producing a higher return on investment than mass manufactured items.
Home Guide knows what it takes to introduce all of the essential craftsman home elements while still keeping the concept fresh and exciting.
