PRISMO the Wizard Merchant:

An elusive wizard in the lands of Eee, his trades and powers are heavily sought after, with hundreds going through numerous perils just to be granted one single wish.

He was once mortal with a shop located in the heart of the kingdom, with his popularity rising throughout the years. Reaching the pinnacle of his powers with aging becoming a road block, he was granted immortality, reverting back to his peak years and now roams throughout the lands, becoming enclosed from society.

In this AU, Scarab’s attention was brought to him as he was practicing dark magic in order to bring mortals (Fionna and Cake) back to life.

Adding onto this, I should probably say that Prismo does not know them personally, instead watching them from a distance on their adventures.

SCARAB the Carmine Knight:

A “noble” knight stationed at the heart of the kingdom, he’s tasked with hunting and retrieving rogue citizens, vigilantes, anything or anyone that could disturb or disrupt the lands of Eee.

With his failure to capture the then wanted Prismo in violation with the usage of his magic, he was assigned to work under him, to protect in from any harm instead.

Instead of a sword he wields a magical crystal, similar with the one in the show, functioning the same as well.

Miscellaneous:

Prismo earned their immortality, proving themselves worthy to ascend to a higher degree than mortals. While on the other hand, Scarab is not immortal, instead having a longer life span in his species’ case.

At some point Scarab’s assignment to work under Prismo was demolished, being offered his old position back. He declined, finding being Prismo’s knight enthralling, traveling to different corners of Eee thrilling.

Prismo is (somewhat) human while Scarab is still a cutie patootie bug under all that metal.

I’m not sure if I worded this correctly a while ago but Prismo was old man Prismo at some point centuries ago but is now in his 20-30’s physically because I can’t draw senior citizens. like I’d like to but I can’t.

Yes their land is called Eee,… because it is also a vowel that makes sense if you say it out loud… I’m sorry if this idea exists already….

Prismo got off scott free because dark magic was of great value and the higher ups wanted to learn it or something idk. sorry if this explanation is basic im so eepy (it kinda went like yoo you can being back the dead?? that’s so useful for war dude could you teach us??)

What queer books do you recommend?

oh honey i have a whole rec page here if you're up for anything, but i mostly read adult m/m fiction. lots of weird and old stuff with dark tones more often than not. if you want some specific titles as a flavor list, here's a few favorites! i'll link their storygraph pages so you can read their synopses too:

Fantasy: The Rifter by Ginn Hale (dark fantasy featuring a romance that spans years and time and space in decaying world with a destroyer god, and bones. so many bones. has one of the most interesting and well written story structures i've encountered. very moody and dark, hits just right).

Scifi: Body after Body by Briar Ripley Page (erotic adult scifi novella with transmasc and transfem MCs. dreamlike and grotesque, delicate and stomach churning, it's about a group of mind-wiped laborers tending genetically engineered mutant bodies.)

Historical: The Still by David Feintuch (my book series of all tiiiiiiime. it's fantasy too but mostly medieval military fiction. don't even talk to me about Rodrigo if you're not ready to be hit with a twelve page verbal essay i'm not joking, that is a threat. not a typical romance, expect heartbreak and plenty of it and to never recover.)

Horror: Hexslinger series by Gemma Files (planning a reread of this one soon to see if it still holds up but this series has stuck with me like a fly to molasses. it's a fucked up time full of desperation, Mayan gods and godessess, faggotry, blasphemy, and witchery) go with the Bound in Flesh anthology instead if you want good trans body horror, or Down by Ally Blue for deepsea suspense horror.

Contemporary: All for the Game by Nora Sakavic (you probably know about this classic but for me it still tops most everything else i've read. it's got sports, mafia drama, and trauma). for something a little different (but still traumatic) try Mo Du / Silent Reading by Priest (dark mystery set in China that follows several disturbing cases and the psychology behind them + romance between a detective and a rich pretty boy)

but yeah i talk about books a lot on my personal/main blog @wiltking (in lieu of updating my actual rec pages these days, it seems) if you ever want more real time recs! i'm a book guy. i like books a normal amount :)

it starts off talking about japan as if it were a fantasy setting calling it a series of "magical islands" full of monsters and witches, and protected by a special sort of knight called a "samurai"

honestly they should take this tack with more settings tbh

but like ALL told through the lens of "this is a WEIRD foreign magical country with WEIRD rituals"

like a really dramatic scene of someone lifting up their shield and there's the virgin mary painted on the back

a priest comes in and he's dressed like a fucking wizard in 30 layers of robes and with a 10 foot tall staff of gold with the crucificixion on it

Okay, so, backstory and junk, this originated from a joke that Prismo's and Scarab would put their two interests together (Prismo being Finn and Jake, Scarab being Dark Medieval Mystery Dramas) and create a Dark and Medieval Ooo

This world's Finn and Jake is Flynn and Jacob, a young human knight and his trusty hound companion, and then like Magic Man would be a Snake Oil salesman and the Ice King would be some sort of Ice Warlock. And like Prismo and Scarab would watch it like they're binging a Show.

Tch. This again. Prismo rolls his eyes. "Oh because opting for gritty realism in the genre called fantasy makes any kind of sense."

"Where's the tension??" Scarab snipes.

They glare at each other. Honestly, they could go on glaring forever. They don't exactly need to blink. But Prismo doesn't care to stare at Scarab's face for the rest of eternity, thank you very much. So he sighs and looks away first.

Tagged by @fallynleaf for nine books I'm excited about this year. Tagging @namajague @sonastarson @lesleyherogirl and I think I'll leave it there because really this is just my excuse for book gushing.

I'm currently reading The Next Shift and Private Rites.

The Next Shift is part of my quest to actually learn from and finish nonfiction books this year. It covers how after manufacturing jobs largely left the U.S., people accumulated into service jobs, particularly healthcare. And because 1) the New Deal and subsequent union negotiation only secured rights for individual factories and industries, not for the general population, and 2) technological innovation and thus profitability isn't possible in service industries, so bosses need to keep lowering wages, nobody has a good livable job anymore. There were never enough ""high skill" jobs to fit everyone, and so we're all working at Starbucks and doing home healthcare. I wanted to know why there doesn't seem to be many strategies to escape this predicament, and it's kind of heartening to know I'm not a unique failure yet depressing because it sure would have been less bleak if my employability were just a skill issue.

Private Rites is the next book by one of my favorite authors, who wrote the incredible tragic lesbian romance Our Wives Under the Sea. Three lesbian sisters, an Evangelion like flood destroying and rebuilding society, and the cults and corporate negligence that crop up around them. She loves driving home how we just keep moving and thinking about our petty concerns no matter what happens to us.

The Starving Saints immediately piqued my interest from the premise, featuring an Elden Ring like too good to be true religious cult and intense medieval bonds of servitude and revenge, and from how I know Starling's work focuses on gross, dark queerness. Sign me up for more evil lesbians.

A Distant Mirror seems like a really wide-ranging yet humanizing book about the medieval world, and that's a subject I want to cover so I can write more fiction in a medieval setting.

Children of Time is I believe the favorite book of @lesleyherogirl, and one that's been on my list for a while. I'm bumping it up because I want to talk to her about it, and because I'm eager for more fucked up alternative alien societies. Sentient spiders!

A Drop of Corruption is the sequel to a book I loved last year, The Tainted Cup. It features an old woman detective who is allowed to be eccentric and amoral and manipulative, and her protege, a cowardly gay dude who's been medically enhanced to have a perfect memory, at the cost of slowly disabling him with horrible fits the more information he stuffs into his brain. The murder mystery in the first book was impeccable, and it was wrapped up in a great fantasy universe based entirely around biological modification and plants, providing a totally different set of rules that the mystery's clues can draw from. I want to see the characters' certainty that their empire's rulers have only everyone's good at heart unraveled in this next book.

How to Hide an Empire was recommended by one of my mutuals on Twitter, Dolly, and seems to be both very readable and covers a lot of the history I learned and forgot from shitty Chomsky and Parenti books when I was a teenager. I want to be able to challenge the propaganda around me more and have American history down pat.

The Jasmine Throne is a political fantasy centered around a fictional India, with some level of a lesbian subplot. I have all three books in the trilogy now from the library and am going to move onto this next for my fiction reading after Private Rites. I love court politics and I want let myself get wrapped up in the drama for a good long time.

Hello! You can call me Shay. I'm a writer and artist living in the US. Welcome to my art and writing blog!

About me: I'm 25, asexual, transmasc, nonbinary (he/they/it), and unsure where I fall on the romantic spectrum. Tag and Ask game friendly! Asks and conversation encouraged. I'm more scared of you than you are of me, so it may take me a bit to respond. I'm creating my world "Exalos" through stories and art, filling the world with my beloved characters (distant sobbing and screaming). I mainly write in the genre of fantasy with a smattering of mystery, horror, romance, and slice of life. Many of my characters are LGBT+ and the world they live in has no drama surrounding that.

I'm currently focused on my WIP titled "Dread Secrets," but I have several other stories in various stages of development. Fifteen years ago, King Ansellus Kestrel of the kingdom Wisea made a last stand against the Dread Queen Celesto, his first love, as the benevolent kingdoms banded together to lay siege to the aptly named, Dread Kingdom. Against all odds, Celesto was beaten. Turned against by the Ancient of the Dread Forest, an unstable Celesto's final moments saw her body transform into a dark and twisted tree that screamed angrily into nothingness without a sound.

They had been in love, Ansellus willing to give Celesto anything he could give her. In four short years, their perfect life together fell to shambles as Celesto betrayed not only Ansellus, but friends and even her own goddaughter, Hibiki, who, even now, clings to her father to feel safe.

Xiang, a student of Prophis, attempts to aid a friend who is cursed to sleep with Grim Twilight Ivy growing around and from his body. His good intentions are rewarded by having a similar curse placed on Xiang himself. A strange mark over his heart and plagued by nightmares of being hunted by the Dread Queen Celesto in the ruins of the Dread Kingdom, Xiang leaves the ancient towers of Prophis to find a way to break the curse before succumbing to it himself. He is given a protector in the form of Malianna Ash, a half-immortal from the fiery Kingdom of Rosha.

Neph, a half-immortal in their early twenties, lives comfortably in the independent city of Rudrian with caretakers Sasha and Bryn Creek and their soft-spoken friend, Celine. Neph longs to gain recognition so they may ascend to immortality in the hopes of reuniting with their immortal mother in Elorial, the realm of immortals. They seize their chance after rescuing Xiang after the Prophis student is separated from Malianna by the crowds. Through the use of incessant nagging and a sprinkle of charisma, Neph manages to join the two strangers on their quest. Celine, who has always been at Neph's side, joins the group to aid them as both a healer and strong nature magic user.

What secrets hide in the past? Will Xiang be able to lift the curse from himself before it's too late? What dreadful secrets hide within the ruins of the Dread Kingdom? Did Celesto find some way to survive and lay low all those years ago, or is the curse the doing of someone else?

Summary: A fantasy story that follows the formation and eventual fall from grace of the Eleven Immortal Villains of the Dread Forest. A time when the citizens of Rusa and Centuros were ruled by Dissonantia Krone and her husband Draco Krone, before the two rulers became God of Chaos and Discord respectively. When Rusa and Centuros were constantly in a closely tied battle without bloodshed or animosity. Before the Dread Forest gained its name and the Ancient of Forests was worshiped by both Rusa and Centuros. When the Primordial of Life had curved horns upon its head and Immortals walked the same earth as mortals. How the mighty fall. How the Eleven Immortal Villains came to be (they're mentioned and may cameo in Dread Secrets). Summary: A fantasy, slice of life story about a family of Gods in the Immortal Realm. Amphon, God of Blacksmiths, and Yvonna, God of Seamsters, adopted three young Immortals who’ve ascended to godhood. Fintan, God of Flames, is often sleeping in Amphon’s smelter, his blonde hair and skin stained with soot and ash, and he only leaves the home if it’s for his twin sister, Pangari, or adopted brother, Demarcus. Pangari, God of Shadows, is a bubbly and kind-hearted young woman with bright eyes and light blonde waves. She spends as much time as she can with her family, often dragging Fintan out of the smelter to go on walks. Demarcus, God of Artisans, is dutiful and is often working hard on a new blueprint or helping his adopted father design a new sword or gift for Yvonna. This is a story about found family and the bonds that are formed by accepting each other and protecting each other.

Summary: something goes here. One of the MCs is probably the main MC because he's aro/ace and everyone around them is falling in love left, right, and center so it's like he's in the background if that makes sense? I haven't decided if that character is going to be called Season or Elio. This is the story with the most gay focus of any of my stories.

(old summary for some context: This story follows three couples as they pursue love. Elio has had feelings for his childhood friend Rowan for five years with the other not noticing and soon developing a crush on someone else. Elio decides to stop his feelings for Rowan, no matter how difficult, and allows his friends Dom and Dai to set him up with a temporary boyfriend Mingi. Once Elio decides to move on, Rowan soon discovers how much Elio has done for him over the years and abandons his crush to pursue Elio. Tia, friend of Elio and Dom and Dai has caught herself pining after her neighbor across the street named Mian. Despite all of her bravado and confident air, she can’t bring herself to talk coherently around Mian. No longer being pursued by Rowan, Wins begins to spend more time with Jun since they have many of the same interests. Jun stops spending time with Wins, putting Mingi first as the latter might have developed feelings for his temporary boyfriend. Can Amais, God of Love, help his heartless or will the God have them figure it out for themselves?)

Summary: (technically scrapped) A fantasy, mystery, suspense. Living under the same roof to save money with his six friends, Pavel has had the luxury of having a room to himself thanks to winning a long game of rock, paper, scissors. His ideal world is flipped when one of his friends, Lucas, asks if a friend of his could move in. Though Pavel doesn’t know the friend well, he trusts Lucas’ judgement of character and agrees to let the friend share a room with himself since it’d be easier than Malia moving her things out of one room and into another. As soon as this friend, Mirroh, arrives, Pavel feels a strange distrust of the stranger. Mirroh keeps to himself unless he’s with Lucas, and seems to settle in well enough. But when an accident leaves his friend Shen dead and Ambrose in critical condition, strange things begin to happen. Mirroh’s personality becomes stranger and he seems to know when something bad is about to happen, though he doesn’t seem to lift a finger to stop it. What’s stranger is Pavel wakes up to find himself back to the day of the first accident that began it all. What can Pavel do to prevent the accidents? Does Mirroh know something and is keeping it a secret? Who is the stranger that confirms that Pavel should not trust Mirroh? Should he listen to the stranger?
