man ur theory on crocodile's backstory combined with the crocomom/dad theory is amazing (talking abt this:)
https://www.tumblr.com/mjrtaurus/746870802382798848/my-idea-for-some-crocodiles-backstory-until-oda?source=share
i was personally subscribed to the 'croc is whitebeard's only bio kid' but yours makes so much sense and fits so well!!
the only thing i do wonder tho, is when exactly croc ate his devil fruit. in ur post u said he got it around the same time as marco, before croc got his injuries. that's a bit of a plot hole for me bc 1) the cut across his face and the hand must've been done with lots of haki and massive determination seeing how a logia like croc should be immune to injuries like that, and 2) croc's df is, canonically, a cactus. it has spikes. which makes me think that croc would have to had been in a very difficult situation with no other choice than to eat something with spikes.
thoughts? maybe i'm the only one who thinks these 2 things are an issue.
best croco(mom/dad) backstory headcanon i've seen to date, genuinely!!
Hello and thank you for the ask and compliments!
I have to say now that I am currently not up to date with the manga or anime, so a lot of my headcanons and backstory come from incomplete information, so they are subject to change.
As for the plot holes...
The thing about devil fruits with the Whitebeard Pirates is that if you find it, it's yours to do with as you please (see Thatch looking to sell the Dark-Dark Fruit before Teach killed him). My thoughts are that Marco and Crocodile found both fruits in the same chest on a ship they raided together and kind of... played a game of rock paper scissors over who got the really cool blue fiery looking one and who got the boring beige cactus looking one.
Crocodile lost.
As for eating the fruit. It's also confirmed that you don't have to eat the whole thing to gain the powers. So long as even a drop of the juice hits your mouth, you get the powers. My guess is crocodile cut the needles off and ate a slice of the flesh of it.
The Crocodile vs Marco thing was out of pure jealousy on Croc's part, egged on behind the scenes by Teach. The jealousy? Imagine you are literal sand and your brother is a fucking majestic being of myth and legend. Beautiful and powerful and coveted.
He had convinced himself- again with Teach's subtle influence- that he- the first child of Whitebeard's crew- was no longer the favorite one.
And he hated that. He hated Marco for that.
As for the cut and how he shouldn't have been able to get cut...
He was trying to kill Marco. He was trying to kill his brother. Family was trying to kill family. Whitebeard physically could not have restrained Crocodile without using Haki, and somewhere in the scuffle, Crocodile got cut. Even though it wasn't even intentional, Whitebeard still felt horrible for harming Crocodile. And to Crocodile, the cut was 100% intentional, adding to the animosity that had been growing and growing until that point.
I might have to draw a comic over Crocodile and Marco playing Rock Paper Scissors over the Devil Fruits, though 🤣

He Ate The Fucking Fruit AU
So as me and many Thatch fans keep saying, he really should have ate the fruit, I don't know what Blackbeard didn't just ask Thatch for it, Thatch is a reasonable man and would have been more then likely Oh sure friend, take it but no he had to MURDER HIM.
I don't know if Blackbeard would have still killed Thatch if he'd eaten it but.. I decided to write some headcannons about if Thatch had.
I think Ace, Marco and Thatch could have been the whitebeard pirates version of 'the monster three' we all know Ace and Marco work well together due to like cannon stuff, in games, etc but I think Thatch could have done alot with both Marco and Ace either with each or as a three.
So I thought I would... do a little AU magic.
- Thatch had eaten the fruit, he looked at his hands before staring at Marco and Ace “So when do I know” he said with a chuckle turning his hands over and flexing them. Ace sighed and rubbed the back of his neck thinking about his accidental first use.
- “I don’t remember, I think it was later in the day, I cut myself by accident and suddenly, blue flames, healing it but it was such a long, lon-“ “Long, long, looong time ago right Marco?” Ace had unhelpfully added, getting a look from the older man.
- “So, it either happens right away or not, thanks guys” Thatch sighed and sat down at the table still staring at his hands.
- “I could try find a book about it yoi?” Marco offered but the chef shook his head, he sat down across from his friend, Ace joining them.
- They all stared at the table, they’d heard so much about the fruit and it didn’t seem to do much right now.
- Thatch had been cooking when he activated it, the black flames licking across his skin, making his hair look wispy, he would accidentally vanish what he was working on, no idea where his good rolling pin had gone.
- Calling on the zoan and logia users joined him in the kitchen where Thatch still had flames emitting from his skin.
- “Wow… it’s like complete and utter darkness” Ace hummed and reached out to play with the flames, drawn to them, Marco grabbing his hand before he could do anything.
- “It is darkness Ace” Marco watched the chef, how it looked, how it moved, so different from his own flames, different from Ace’s.
- It would take a lot of trial and error for Thatch to learn just the basics.
- He learned though, he had been dedicated, he wanted to be stronger and a real force.
- It didn’t take long before Ace, Marco and Thatch became a force to be reckoned with, either on their own or as a unit.
- Soon as a battle ever came about the three would stand tall, flames of blue, orange and black taking up the field and their enemies knowing what was to come.
- Enemies would report the black flames running across the floor, sucking all that stood in their way down into another place, flames would soon follow, swallowed by the swirls of black and orange combined.
- Thatch sometimes only needed to hold someone with his bare hand, stopping their devil fruit power and having Ace step in.
- Marco would grab Thatch, careful the chef’s hands didn’t touch him, using himself as air support so Thatch could let the darkness spread over.
- The three commanders started to get higher bounties, their crew even prouder of them, even offered a warlord position but each one rejected it, happy with where they were.
- Thatch’s bounty had become huge, almost as big as Marco’s which the two would joke about back and forth, all friendly competition.
- They’d become the unstoppable force of the whitebeards and Pop’s couldn’t have been prouder.

Okay, I’ll bite XD How do the first interactions with Smoker go? First mermaid he’s ever seen, and she’s dragging herself along the ground to find the platform. Awww, Smokey could give her a lift, though who can say if he’d appreciate her boobs on his head as much as Ace does, haha!
EYYY a bite ;D
Here’s some Smoker
~~
The first time Smoker sees Straw Hat, the mermaid is perched on top of the execution platform.
Smoker had read the reports, and had seen her bounty poster, and yet some part of him hadn’t quite believed. A mermaid, as a pirate? With a devil fruit? And in a crew with infamous pirates like Portgas and Thatch no less, in East Blue of all places?
It’s laughable, and the cropping of her photo makes it seem all the more likely that it’s all just a dumb joke.
And yet there she is, red tail gleaming and unmistakable against dark clouds, so ridiculously and jarringly out of place, but very much real. Her announcement that she’ll become Pirate King of all things almost manages to top the ridiculousness of her very existence.
Despite being disoriented, a pirate is a pirate, and Smoker’s duty is to capture her, and she makes for an easy, gullible victim with no Haki to speak of to counter his smoke. Smoker feels a tinge of regret, briefly wondering what unfortunate history and poor decisions led her to be here, pinned by his seastone jitte, when she could have been in the mermaid lagoon on Fishman Island--when he’s stopped by an even more disorienting figure.
Dragon, Supreme Commander of the Revolutionary Army.
Smoker doesn’t have time to dwell on it, because a roar of flame whips past them, and then the mermaid’s gone, now swinging from the back of the fire logia pirate, who has the nerve to give Smoker a cheeky wink before they vanish.
They meet again in Alabasta, and Smoker intends to avoid Fire Fist to take Straw Hat as hostage, but the pesky older sibling keeps getting in his way. There’s now a third brother too, one he hadn’t noticed in Loguetown, but whose identity makes sense given the presence of Dragon, and the man has infuriatingly powerful Haki that bats away smoke like nothing. And to make Smoker’s day even worse, he sees the Whitebeard Fourth Division Commander exhibiting some weird power that wasn’t in his reports, and he’s there with the two older brothers blocking Smoker’s path. Smoker isn’t used to facing challenges, there are few things that can threaten a logia user this far down Paradise after all, and he doesn’t like the odds of him against two logia and a strong Haki user just to get at one damn fish. It’s distressingly predictable that they get away.
He isn’t thrilled when not too long after the incident, his enemies end up rescuing him from certain death via drowning.
He’s on the ground, clothing soaked, having been heaved from the water by Roronoa under Straw Hat’s orders--Straw Hat, who’s suddenly too close, peering down at him with droplets of water still clinging to her hair.
She smiles, seeing that he’s awake and alright, and Smoker feels more winded than he’d been by the crushing water entering Crocodile’s prison room. And then she’s gone, a safe distance away, fists readied to fight.
Smoker doesn’t get it, doesn’t get why all these powerful pirates seem to listen to her, doesn’t get why she feels like no other pirate he’s ever seen, doesn’t get why she seems so close and yet so untouchable.
He lets them go. Straw Hat grins at him, and says, “You’re not so bad!” as she leaves, swinging from Roronoa’s back.
The words stick with Smoker.
~~
Over two years later (and after that damn cursed War), Smoker runs into Straw Hat again. It’s awful timing, because that damn Trafalgar’s just switched his and Tashigi’s bodies, and Tashigi’s body just doesn’t move the way Smoker’s used to. Smoker distractedly thinks that he and Straw Hat seem better matched now, at least physically (her chest looks a bit bigger though), and he’s insulted when she laughs and says they’ll fight again when he’s back to himself.
They end up having to team up, which Smoker is very disgruntled about indeed (and also, Fire Fist is very VERY not dead like the government had announced, which is its own separate problem), but sometimes the greater evil must be defeated first, and Caesar and Vergo are that evil.
Smoker has known for a while now, that despite their crew’s complete and utter lack of respect for authority, Straw Hat and her brothers aren’t...the worst. The kernel had been planted in Alabasta, and had slowly festered in the back of Smoker’s mind during the two years of their crew’s disappearance, when he’d had had time to question whether Portgas’s execution was truly in the name of justice. And now, in Punk Hazard, they seem even grayer, as reluctant but undeniable allies.
The subtle shift in his perception of Straw Hat still doesn’t remotely prepare Smoker for the mermaid shouting, “Hey Smokey, we’re going to the same place, gimme a lift!”
Smoker doesn’t even have the time to refuse, because suddenly rubbery arms are looping around his neck, without Haki or intent to harm, and Smoker stops his body from turning to smoke just a second before she’s crashing into him.
And then he suddenly has a mermaid on his back, her soft chest squashed against his coat, her tail whipping through the space where his torso would be if he wasn’t flying. Her arms are loose and trusting around Smoker’s neck, and she peers down at him expectantly, her face close enough for him to feel the soft, foggy puffs of her breath.
She’s perched there like she belongs there, as though Smoker’s her brother or crew, and Smoker HATES how he doesn’t feel angry, disturbed, or even annoyed.
(It’s as though a subconscious part of him wants this, wants to know what it feels like to have her strength and willpower and insanity all compacted into that misleadingly small package and settled against his own body. As though that part of him wants to know what it’s like, to be trusted by the enigma known as Straw Hat Luffy.
(And now that he’s experiencing it, he hates that he can’t feel anything but humbled, and now that she’s there, there’s no way he’ll drop her).

Lost Things Ch. 3
The Trapped
Marco sat in the chair, watching Ace move around the house.
There wasn’t much room to move to begin with, the place was small after all. If Marco wasn’t so used to the confines of a ship it might be claustrophobic. There was still the creeping feeling of being caged whenever the wind blew to hard and the trees rattled against the glass but it passed.
If Ace knew he was being watched, he didn’t show it. The boy talked a lot, not about much of anything, but it filled the silence. He told Marco about everyday things. Like the black squirrel that watched him chop firewood because it knew Ace didn’t mind sharing his pistachios. He told him about the baker, Mrs. Madaline, who let him have the day old bread as long as he carried her flower bags for her. About the portmaster, Henry Finch, who had wild stories of life in the New World.
Marco didn’t miss the way Ace’s eyes lit up when he started talking about that, so much like the wonder he had seen the first time they took their own Ace to the New World for the first time, it was the look he’d seen on his brother’s face every time he looked out over the waves.
It was the love of the sea.
Marco’s heart clenched. This boy was so like the Ace that had died.
There was, still, that small hope in the back of his head. That sense at the edge of his heart that tried to tell him that this was the Ace that he knew.
He tried to shake it off. He couldn't take another heartbreak. Not so soon.
“How long had you lived here?” he asked, trying to draw himself back into the present, and away from the darkened past.
Ace went from surprised to thoughtful, his head tilting. Long black hair spilled across his broad shoulders, a stark contrast to the pale scarf draped there.
“I think about a year and a half? Before that I stayed with the Jones’, they had a guest house they let me use. There kids are so cute, between the three of us I’m surprised there was only four fires,” Ace laughed, sheepish.
“Fire’s?” Marco repeated, trying not to sound too interested.
“Yes,” Ace’s cheeks darkened, just a bit, “I’m a bit accident prone.”
“Can you swim?” Marco asked next, confusing Ace.
“I… don’t know. I’ve never tried. The water on this island is too cold for it. Why?”
“Well, if you were to put to sea, you would want to be able to. Most people do, at least,” he reasoned.
Ace’s brows furrowed. “Why would I go to sea?” he asked the question, but Marco could see the spark that had entered his eyes. The brightness, the longing, the love. Ace wanted to go to sea.
“You love the ocean,” Marco said with absolute certainty. “One day, you should go sail on it.”
“How do you- I mean I do but I don’t even know how to sail!”
“You might,” Marco suggested lightly. He drummed his fingers on the wood, still warm from the stew. Stew that he knew. Stew that Thatch had taught him how to make. There was no mistaking what it was, it was the exact same stew that Thatch made on the Moby Dick. There was no way that a strange could recreate it exactly.
And, Ace had known how to make it.
Marco had never had to deal with such an unruly logia type before. For someone made out of fire he was a slippery little devil, always disappearing to sulk after he tried to kill Pops. He kept finding new places too. Marco had once found him curled up in the rafters of a store room, another time he had been under Marco’s on bed. Marco always found him within the hour.
Today, after yet another flying lesson from Whitebeard, Ace had vanished to the point that even Marco couldn’t find him.
Part of Marco was suspicious that he had finally given up and jumped ship, but he doubted that was the case. The boy was fearless and determined, and stubborn to the point of potential suicide trying to kill the strongest man in the world. Not that Pops would kill him. He had already decided that Ace was going to be one of his beloved sons, and once Whitebeard decided you were his that was that.
But, Ace could not become one of Marco’s brothers until he had been found, and no one had seen him in hours.
Which brought Marco to the kitchen. Thatch was usually in there this time of day, and Ace was usually nowhere near it. For one reason or another, out of pride or paranoia, he refused to eat with the rest of them. Instead he would sneak in and eat at night, alone in the dark.
That would stop once he was their brother, hopefully, but until then it was only a matter of time before he snuck into the kitchen to filch a snack or two.
Marco eased the door open, peaking in. His mouth was open to call for Thatch before he realized who exactly was inside the kitchen.
Thatch was there, yes, but so was one Portgas D. Ace.
The pair of them was huddled by a massive pot that was steaming, the scent of it the stew that Thatch excelled at. If anyone outside the crew was allowed to eat it he would be world famous for that alone, but nobody who did not carry Whitebeards mark was allowed to eat it.
Except, it seemed, for Ace. He was even allowed to sample a spoonful of it.
Marco leaned against the doorway, just watching the pair talking about food. Thatch pointed a jar on the ledge beside the stove and Ace grabbed it for him.
“Three shakes,” Thatch said, and Ace obeyed. Marco was amazed. Thatch was teaching his secret recipe to Ace, who wasn’t even his brother yet.
It seemed that, whether Ace knew it or not, he was already family.
“How would I even get to sea? People don’t exactly come here often, and I don’t think the Marine’s are interested in someone who barely knows their own name,” Ace shook his head, his words breaking Marco from his thoughts.
“Fuck the Marines,” Marco said viciously. Ace drew up, staring at him. Marco met his gaze, unrepentant. “Fuck the Marines. They’re murders and liars, and you belong with people better than them.”
Ace slowly stood up. “Sorry but, what exactly makes you think that? You barely know me.”
Marco faltered. That did make him think that? Just the similarities between this Ace and the one he lost? Or the light in his eyes when he talked about the sea?
“Sorry,” he wasn’t really, but he did nod to Ace. “I guess I can’t pass judgement, can I?”
“No,” Ace agreed, regarding him. “But it’s okay. “
Marco wondered if it really was. If anything about this situation was okay.
“Have you been to sea?” Ace asked, before turning sheepish. “No, nevermind. You’re a pirate.”
Funny, Marco didn’t remember telling him he was a pirate. Still he smiled indulgently at the younger man, the ferocity from earlier already forgotten.
“I have. It’s beautiful, and wild. There’s an adventure around every wave,” he watched Ace, waiting until he saw the spark enter his eyes once more. Then, he leaned forwards.
“Would you like to come with me?”
It was, perhaps, a poor choice. How could he have someone on board when he had travelled alone so long? How could he invite someone who was so close to his dead brother to travel with him? It wasn’t fair, not to either of them. He opened his mouth to retract the statement, but the wonder on Ace’s face stopped him.
“Would you really take me with you? To the sea?” he was breathless. Breathless and bright and eager.
Marco didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”
Ace’s smile lit the room better than the lamp in the corner. It was bright, beautiful. So horribly, painfully familiar. That horribly dangerous hope pushed back into his brain.
“It won’t be for a while though,” Ace said, though his excitement didn’t sim a single watt. “The storm won’t die down for a couple of weeks. We probably can’t even leave the house.” And didn’t that just figure, that they were stuck together in a cabin in the middle of a snow storm.
Was it a miracle, or a cruel coincidence?
~
The scream that tore through the air was heart wrenching. In all his life Marco didn’t think he had ever heard such a forlorn sound than the one the wind carried across the battlefield to him. He turned, forgoing his battle, and felt his heart freeze inside of his chest.
He had to be wrong. That couldn't really be Ace’s body laying on the ground, blood pouring out of a massive hole in his chest. It couldn't.
Marco could only stare as Luffy, who was really just a child, wailed above his brother’s broken body. Before his very eyes a soft red light enveloped the corpse, growing brighter until it obscured Ace’s smiling face. His dark hair, his strong arms, his dusting of freckles.
The light stopped. Wind blew and the light vanished, flashing out of existence in a wave of embers that lifted into the air and vanished.
Marco opened his eyes to see a painfully familiar face hovering above his own. His breath caught in his throat.
“Ace?”
“You um. You were crying,” Ace offered him a tissue. Marco sighed and accepted it. It had been almost a year since he’d had that particular dream. He sat up, slowly, giving Ace time enough to pull back from him so they wouldn’t knock their foreheads together.
“Sorry,” he said, rubbing some of the color out of his cheeks. Damn it, he felt like a child.
“It’s okay,” Ace sat at the edge of the bed. Despite Marco’s objections, he insisted that the pirate sleep there. As if he needed it. “Do you wanna talk about it?”
“It’s just a bad dream, Ace. You don’t need to worry.”
Ace shrugged, looking at him with a smile that was so familiar it hurt.
“Well, if you ever do…”
“Sure.”
Marco didn’t see a reason to say more. He looked away, towards the little kitchen. No sooner had he glanced away than a weight landed on his shoulder, pulling his attention back.
Ace leaned on his shoulder, snoring softly.
Marco snorted at the sight. Carefully, he pulled himself out from under the younger man and lay him down on the bed. And he said he didn’t need it! Ace must have been exhausted, to just fall asleep like that.
He used to fall asleep in his food, said a little voice that he did his best to smash viciously.
Yes, Ace did had Narcolepsy. The coincidences just kept piling up. Marco touched the sleeping mans arm, above a tattoo Ace had never gotten around to telling him the full story of. Just that the ‘s’ wasn’t crossed out as a mistake. Was it there, on this man?
If it was, what the hell did Marco do?
It was clear that, even if this was his Ace, he didn’t remember him. So what was he supposed to do now? He could heal his own body, but no one elses. Certainly not their mind.
Marco grimaced and a ran a hand through his hair. What was he supposed to do now?
Outside, the howling wind shifted. Far enough that the new sound invaded his sensitive ears. The sound of boots in snow. No one had shown up since he’d been there, no one had braved the snow and according to Ace no one would. Not for another couple of days.
Yet, there was someone outside the warm little house in the middle of the woods. And Marco had the distinct feeling that they were not going to be friends of his.

The Rocks Crew
Legendary and active 38 years ago before the adventures of One Piece began, the Rock Pirates consisted of powerful pirates - renowned and feared. Indeed, this crew had as members three of the four future Yonkô, namely Kaido of the Hundred Beasts , Charlotte Linlin alias Big Mom and Edward Newgate alias Whitebeard, the Strongest Man in the World . There was also Shiki the Golden Lion, captain of The Golden Lion Pirates, and John, aka Captain John, who later became one of Thriller Bark's Zombie Generals. This crew was under the direction of Rocks D. Xebec, a famous and influential captain before the Gol D. Roger era. He was not only one of the most powerful crews, but also one of the greatest threats of their time to the World Government. 🗽 Its dissolution took place 38 years ago following the God Valley incident between Rocks and Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp . In addition, the World Government has done everything to make the name of this crew and its deeds fall into oblivion by intentionally concealing them.
Captain of the Rocks:
At the head of this crew was Rocks D. Xebec who were simply called Rocks. If the latter is no longer in this world today, it nevertheless had its heyday 40 years ago. According to Sengoku the Buddha, the former Admiral Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Rocks was one of the most formidable adversaries that Monkey D. Garp aka The Hero of the Navy had to face. He was also the first opponent of Pirate King Gol D. Roger and his most formidable rival. Let us note besides that Rocks D. Xebec had for ambition to conquer the world and to become the Master of it. His power is such that he ruled the seas for quite a while until the arrival of Gol D. Roger. In addition, the latter had to ally temporarily with the Navy and Monkey D. Garp in order to stop Rocks and his crew who had given themselves the mission of attacking God Valley, an island in the New World and the stronghold of the Heavenly Dragons. . An impressive battle ensued, which led to the defeat and disbandment of the Rock Pirates, but also to the complete disappearance of the island. 🏝️ Devil Fruit from Rocks D. Xebec
As seen, Rocks D. Xebec is so powerful that Roger and Garp had to form an alliance to be able to defeat him. Apart from the fact that Rocks has been seen with a saber, his skills have unfortunately not yet been revealed to this day. However, there is a theory that this character had a Logia-type Devil Fruit 👹, the Yami Yami no Mi or Fruit of Darkness.. This hypothesis is based on the outcome of the God Valley incident which caused God Valley to be razed from the map. Indeed, the island where the World Nobles were located has completely disappeared and is no longer present on any existing map following the terrible clash between Roger and Garp and Rocks. The question arises of what really happened during this fight for an entire island to disappear from the face of the earth. And it is here that the hypothesis of the use of Yami Yami no Mi by Rocks D. Xebec arises. Recall quickly that this Fruit 🍇 of the Devil allows its user to control darkness as well as gravity. Thanks to this, the user can absorb everything around him in darkness, be it objects or even living beings. He also has the possibility of creating a kind of vortex, like a black hole, in which he sucks up whatever he wants. The theory of Rocks using the power of this Devil Fruit during the Banaro incident can be compared to another event known as the Banaro incident which pitted Portgas D. Ace alias Ace with the Burning Fists against Marshall D. Teach, aka Blackbeard . First of all, these events are both called incident, which could not be a coincidence for the followers of this theory. Note that in the Banaro incident, Blackbeard had used the Yami Yami no Mi to absorb into its darkness the entire city where the fight was taking place and then expel it in ruins. It is also important to remember that at the end of this confrontation, it is practically the whole of the island of Banaro which was consumed by a gigantic explosion of energy caused by the darkness of Teach in contact with the ultimate Ace technique Dai Enkai: Entei, also from his Devil Fruit, the Mera Mera no Mi . The theory is therefore that Rocks D. Xebec would also have used the Yami Yami no Mi, which had the effect of absorbing the island of God Valley. The Captain of the Rocks Crew would have been the first owner of this Devil Fruit and this would also be the reason why Teach did everything to get it back. Indeed, the hypothesis does not stop there, it goes even further by drawing parallels between the characters who played a role in these two incidents. Each of these incidents featured clashes between three named characters with the particle "D". That of God Valley pitted Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger against Rocks D. Xebec while, for that of Banaro, there was Portgas D. Ace, Monkey D. Luffy against Marshall D. Teach . In addition, these characters would have quite a special bond between them: Roger is the father of Ace, Garp is the grandfather of Luffy and Rocks would therefore have an affiliation with Teach, the latter having renamed his ship Le Saber ⚔️ de Xebec for a precise reason and not by mere chance. For Blackbeard, the Yami Yami no Mi would therefore have a special meaning, hence his need to recover him at all costs. On the one hand, it would be his inheritance from Xebec because they both have an affiliation to each other and, on the other hand, it would allow him to carry on Xebec's will, that of conquer the world. Note also that before Blackbeard stole it, this Devil Fruit was previously in the hands of Thatch, the Commander of the 4th Division of the Whitebeard fleet , while the latter was himself a former member of the 'Rocks Crew. So it cannot be a simple coincidence. A final point to be made in support of this theory is that Emperor Teach chose Pirate Island 🏴☠️ as his residence. Indeed, it is on this island that Rocks trained its crew more than 40 years ago. It could therefore be that Teach's choice is not trivial, but is important to him because of his potential relationship with Xebec.
History of the Rocks crew
Having long dominated the oceans, Rocks and his crew were one of the greatest threats the World Government has faced, even to this day. This dominance only ended 38 years ago following the God Valley incident, which led to the advent of the Gol D. Roger era. This crew was born on Pirate Island, also known as the Hive. We know that the understanding between the different members was very bad to the point that killings even within the crew were commonplace. The captain's sole objective was to become King 🤴🏼 of the World and this crew looked more like a terrorist organization than anything else. By their actions, he represented a real danger for the World Government which it was absolutely necessary to put an end to. This need led Monkey D. Garp to forge an unprecedented alliance with Gol D. Roger in order to defeat this crew. So that's what happened 38 years ago in God Valley with the loss of Rocks and his crew. This victory even earned Garp his nickname of Hero of the Navy. It was also learned that after their defeat, the crew was disbanded and that Charlotte Linlin aka Big Mom had given Kaido the Uo Uo no Mi, a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, and the latter ate it. . In the Reverie Arc, Garp the Hero teaches us that Rocks and his crew are a thing of the past, and their very existence now seems forgotten. It must be said that the World Government has intentionally concealed a large number of misdeeds perpetrated by the Rock crew. It even happens that the former members of this crew do not seem very inclined to evoke this period of their past. It is also in the Wano Kuni Arc, during a meeting of the Navy about the alliance that was established between the Emperors 👑 Big Mom and Kaido, that Sengoku revealed to us the belonging of many notorious pirates to this renowned crew. This is notably the case of the Whitebeard Yonkos, Big Mom and Kaido but also of Shiki, Captain John, Ochoku and Silver Ax . Hina the Black Cage, Rear Admiral of the Navy, also recounted during the Reverie Arc that these former members of the Rock Pirates became more and more powerful even after their captain died. To which Garp replied that if this crew were to reform, it would mean a terrible threat to the Navy.
Rocks Crew Members:
Kaido
As mentioned above, Kaido was once under the Rock Pirates banner. Note, however, that at the time of the God Valley incident 38 years ago, he was just an apprentice on the crew. Following their loss to the Garp and Roger alliance and the death of their Captain, the crew broke up and Kaido received the Uo Uo no Mi from Charlotte Linlin aka Big Mom who considered him her little brother. For his part, Kaido formed his own crew, known today as the Hundred Beast Pirates. 🐲 The latter has a system similar to that of the Rocks, namely the concept of killings between members of the same crew in order to determine who are the most powerful members. Indeed, Kaido retained from his time with the Rocks this idea that only the strongest should command and he applied it to his own crew. Thus, duels were often organized within the crew to allow members to compete. It was thus possible for a Headliner, and more precisely a Tobiroppo, to take the place of an Okanban (or Calamity), which is the highest rank of all the officers of the Hundred Beasts Pirates, if he arrives. to defeat it. Gradually, Kaido made a name for himself among the fiercest pirates thanks in particular to his incredible physical strength. He is both ruthless and very confident in his power and abilities. He even considers himself far superior to the Supernovae . He will get Charlotte Linlin AKA Big Mom
Much like Kaido, Charlotte Linlin aka Big Mom was previously a member of the Rocks Pirates as well. You should know that Linlin has always been a real danger to everyone around him since his childhood. Even though she was born to human parents, she did indeed cause terrible damage due to her large size and uncontrollable strength. Abandoned by her parents at the age of five on Erbaf, an island populated by giants, 🧟️ she was responsible for the deaths and injuries of both people and animals. It is also at the origin of the destruction of a village. The day of his six-year-old Linlin acquires the powers of Soru Soru no Mi . Shortly after, she began her pirate career with Streusen, who is now the chef of her crew. She began her acts of piracy by destroying villages to obtain candy, but soon her fame grew to the point of having a capture bounty of 50,000,000 Berrys. This amount quickly multiplied by 10 as she was feared and powerful. She then gave birth to her first child, a son named Charlotte Perospero 50 years ago. Soon after, she founded her family known as the Charlotte Family which today consists of her 85 children (46 sons and 39 daughters from 43 husbands). It was then that she was called Big Mom . She then joined the Rocks Pirates before forming her own crew after their defeat at God Valley. Subsequently, she became one of the Four Emperors and Queen 👸🏼 of the Totto Lond Archipelago in the New World. In addition, she knew how to transform her crew into one of the most powerful in the world by recruiting famous pirates and by marrying her children without taking their opinion into account. Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard
Edward Newgate was born on Sphinx Island in the New World and raised as an orphan. He embraced the career of a pirate at a young age with the aim of sending money to his homeland which was so poor that the World Government refused him to be a member. He was first part of a pirate crew under his real name Newgate and 40 years ago he was on the same ship as Bakkin who claimed to be his lover and to have had a child with him, Edward Weeble aka Barbe. Blanche 🧙🏼♂️ Jr, a former Captain Corsair . It was subsequently that he joined the Rocks Pirates before they were defeated and disbanded during the God Valley incident 38 years ago. Five years later, he founded his own pirate crew, the Whitebeard Pirates. Three years later, he was shipwrecked at Wano where he met Kozuki Oden, Kuri's Daimyō , who joined his crew and later became the Commander of the Second Division of his fleet. Just like the previous two, Edward Newgate became one of the Four Emperors. He had such phenomenal power and strength that he was considered the strongest man in the world while he was still alive. Whitebeard ate the Gura Gura no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, which gave him the power to slash through air and anything in his way. It thus had the capacity to cause tsunamis as well as earthquakes. It should also be noted that Edward Newgate had a perfect mastery of the 3 forms of Haki. He lost his life in the Battle of Marine Ford after telling Teach and everyone else present that One Piece, the famous treasure 💎 hidden by Gol D. Roger, really existed and that someone would find it for sure. Shiki the Golden Lion
Known as Shiki the Golden Lion, Shiki was also a former member of the notorious Rock Pirates before its disbandment 38 years ago. Like his other former companions, he is not very talkative about this period of his life when he appears in the series. After his crew was defeated in God Valley, he fled and began a career as a pirate. He gradually built up a gigantic fleet and had the greatest number of pirates in his pay, which gave him great notoriety during the Gol D. Roger era against whom he fought several battles. Note also that he wanted to recruit the King of the Pirates to be his second, an offer that the latter declined, which sparked the famous battle of Ed War between the large armada of Shiki and the Crew of Gol D. Roger . At the end of this major clash, Shiki saw his skull pierced by a piece of the helm of his ship without losing his life. In addition, he had lost half of his fleet to an unexpected 🌪️ storm, which allowed Roger and his crew to escape. In his youth, Shiki had stood up to Sengoku and Garp, which demonstrates the great strength he possessed. Its Paramecia type Devil Fruit, Fuwa Fuwa no Wi or Floating Fruit, grants it the power to lift any non-living object just by touching it. He was even seen floating several entire islands and other matter like water in the movie One Piece: Strong World . It should be noted that Shiki was also an outstanding swordsman who used Meito-class swords : Oto and Kogarashi. He also used the latter to replace his legs 🦵🏼 which he had amputated to free himself from his Marine Granite chains while he was imprisoned in the Impel Down Underwater Prison. These swords also allowed him to fly thanks to the abilities of his Demon Fruit and escape from prison. So he became the first and only person to be able to escape Impel Down without the help of anyone from outside. Captain john
Known primarily as Captain John, John was also a member of the Rocks Pirates. He was a famous pirate, greedy and brutal, he even had a disgust for the members of his own crew, which incidentally caused a revolt. When he died, his body was found by Dr. Hogback, a physician-surgeon in the pay of Grand Corsair Gecko Moria . These two characters then resurrected John's body to make him one of their Zombie Generals, 🧟♂️ given that he was a very powerful and feared pirate during his lifetime. Unfortunately (for them), his addiction to alcohol followed him even once he became a zombie, rendering him ineffective in combat. Indeed, he was always lagging behind, refusing to obey orders and to fight. He was also easily knocked out by Oars aka The Continent Transporter and Dr. Hogback's Special Zombie # 900 after he sheltered Luffy's shadow stolen from the Thriller Bark Arc. Like all other zombies, he will be purified of his condition when their master wants to increase his power by absorbing all the stolen shadows. Silver Ax
This character was first mentioned by former Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Sengoku during the Navy meeting to discuss the alliance that was established between Big Mom and Kaido . It was while discussing the former Rocks crew that Sengoku revealed that Silver Ax was one of them and that he was a renowned pirate just like Shiki, Captain John or Ochoku. This parallel therefore tells us that Silver Ax was subsequently a powerful or well-known pirate. However, not much is known about him or his story as of yet. Ochoku Like Silver Ax, not much is known about this character known as Ochoku, other than that he was also a member of the Rocks D. Xebec crew. It was also during this meeting between Navy officers that Sengoku was mentioned.
Crew of Legends
As has been seen throughout this article, the Rock Pirates are a legendary crew and whose known members virtually all later became true legends. In addition, its Captain Rocks D. Xebecwas single-handedly a renowned pirate having ruled the seas 🌊 for a time before being beaten and killed by Garp allied to Roger. Just seeing how powerful and feared each of its former members subsequently became, one can only conclude how formidable this crew was. Let Read the full article

Yeah it’s definitely implied it’s because he used the Dark Dark Fruit’s powers. Even before getting Devil Fruit powers Blackbeard was a force to be reckoned with.
His record before is absolutely nothing to sneeze at either. So he’s fought against the Roger Pirates, gave Shanks his iconic scars, fought Thatch (the dude that had the Dark Dark Fruit before him) and on his quest to get the Dark Dark Fruit fought the Drum Kingdom. So definitely Ave would of had an “Oh, shit!” moment after seeing some one that dangerous getting one of the most dangerous Logia fruit.
Like why is it a plot point that Ace was surprised at getting 'hurt' when he fought Blackbeard? When not only were they fucking crew mates on Whitebeard's crew but they sailed the fucking New World, unless we're to be believe that Ace is just Paradise Scrub tier.
It's supposed to be because he's surprised by Teach's devil fruit. That was clearly what was intended at the time.
But by all accounts, he'd have to not be surprised because HE knew Haki. It shouldn't have been a major shock to know Teach could tough him because, as a Logia user, he should absolutely know people can still touch him.

im gonna go ape shit wild if i dont write this down so. here you go i guess.
Thachs favourite nickname for Ace is a tie between “Road flare” and “Emergency Rocket”
Dark Logia! Thatch is constantly in need of saving because he forgets he can´t swim anymore and is always jumping after Ace whenever he goes overboard. Namur suffers.
Vivi is taller than Nami and that is a Fact Babey!
Actually I don´t know if she is and I´m too tired to check but. Y´know. Height difference.
In a world where Vivi comes along both of them work out a lot (at least during and after the time skip), and they are always carrying each other around in some way or fashion.
Vivi likes to lightly trace Namis tattoos when they´re cuddling.
Because I promise you, Nami gets more tattoos along the way.
She comes back to the Sunny after two years and her arms and back look like she just up and dipped herself in paint.
She has, if it´s even possible, even more freckles than before.
Vivi has a hat, and no you can´t disagree. She has a hat, period.
It´s almost a cowboy hat, but it´s not like Aces, his is more curved upwards along the brim. Vivis is almost flat all around, but not really.
She has a pride flag tied around it.
The day that Nami manages to deadlift Zoro is the day the Strawhat crew riots.
They have bets on that. Usopp almost has more money than his debt to Nami is worth on this. (He thinks she´ll do it before the end of the year.)
People on new islands sometimes think Zoro and Nami are dating.
“Ew.”
“I´m gay.”
“I have a girlfriend.”
They are both Gay as all fuck.
Nami will sometimes just. Climb Zoro and sit on his shoulders for a while. No one questions it. Not out loud at least. Usopp doesn´t think Zoro even notices she´s there half the time.
Usopp draws his crewmembers a lot!
Sometimes you´ll find him in the galley with his sketchbook and pencil in hand, making small talk with Sanji who´s working away at the counter.
Luffy has pierced ears, and he got those piercings the same way Ace got his piercings. They found a dude with the skills needed when they were kids (15 and 12 to be precise) and told him to get to work.
Ace got a tongue piercing shortly after he left at 17.

Thatchizou musings at 5am
This is in no way resembling canon. I’m sleep deprived and very emotional rn. I’m gonna draw these two smooching
some day
I promise. Please if you like these idiots come yell at me I need to vent.
Thatch is weak for anyone tall and sassy. Facts.
Izou likes to just. Hoist Thatch up and put him on counters and up against walls when making out and it makes Thatch´s soul leave his body.
If Izou ever catches Ace or Haruta in the act of preparing a prank on Thatch they better hope god is listening to prayers that day.
Both of them are lethal gossipers, and they have dirt on almost anyone. They are not afraid to use this knowledge to their advantage.
Before they got together Thatch would be so shy around Izou because whenever he would clap back with a sassy comment of his own Thatch´s insides would feel like someone had released a cage of butterflies in there.
Both of them swear like the sailors they are, but Thatch does it less often.
I headcanon Thatch as having left/run away from some noble family in the west or north blue, so his first encounter with cuss words that weren’t stuff like “darn it” was when he was like. Seventeen.
He joined maybe three or four years after Izou did, and by that time Izou was more than familiar with sailor and pirate slang.
Dancing is a mess, because in the beginning Thatch only knew the leading steps for ballroom dancing. Nowadays they´re better at it, after they figured out that its easier for Izou to lead since he´s much taller.
Another Thatch hc out of the blue, his first name is Edward, and he goes by his last name to make things less confusing.
Izou calls him “Ed” sometimes and it makes Thatch melt every time without fail.
The first time Izou saw Thatch with his hair down he couldn’t form coherent sentences for fifteen minutes.
Thatch with the dark logia fruit makes Izou somehow fall even more in love.
Watching him fight with his swords and the devifruit makes him turn to literal yello, Thatch is that pretty.
Izou could carry his boyfriend around like it’s nothing if he wanted to.
“Do I even weigh anythin’ to you?” “No, it’s like holding a couple of grapes.”
They´re one of the longest lasting couples in the crew that are still sailing with them.
Mostly when a crewmember gets in a serious relationship they decide to settle down somewhere in their territory.
But since both of them are commanders, if Thatch and Izou were to do that its would be a problem for both morale and order.
But luckily for them, they’re staioned on the same ship in their fleet, so they don’t have to plan every singe meeting.
When they first started sleeping in the same room it was always Thatch who stayed in Izous room, and now they’ve just made it their room. Thatch’s old one is a storage room.

Thinking of Thatvh as Edward Thatch makes me :,) bc that means *he's* the actual Blackbeard and I Cannot handle Teach stealing that
We now have two blackbeards; Thatch, and Teach.
I for one vote for Thatch to have the fruit, reasons?
He’s not a dick, has cooler hair, can cook, a better beard even tho it’s a different colour than his hair, I could go on but in conclusion, let’s all attack Marshal D Teach like feral wolves
#i cannot use any wirds in the english language to possibly describe how much i hate teach#one piece#manicshipper#asks answered#thatch#dark logia thatch#blackbeard

Bonus if he spits blood and saliva and works his jaw over, Ace has been in several bar fights since he was a kid
The whitebeard pirates are so notorious that people don’t usually mess with them, but when a buncha bandits start bad mouthing Pops?
Ace who’s already been pent up, is he frustrated? The walls are kinda too thin to masturbate after all, some folk do anyway because fuck it gotta do what you gotta do, but no one’s ever heard Ace go at it, poor kid, maybe he gets his jollies whilst docked (he doesn’t)
He just flies off the handle, decks the closest guy he can get his hands on and the rest of the commanders get a front row seat to Ace taking on twelve people in a fist fight
To their amused disgust a betting pool has opened when Ace grabs a man larger than him in every way possible by the jaw and yanks him down, his knee coming up to snap teeth together, a tongue may have gotten mixed up in the process, blood spurts out from between broken teeth and torn gum
All bets on the little one with the orange cowboy hat and the excellent biceps
Ace drops his target and drives the heel of his freer hand into someone’s lower neck, stunning them momentarily before following up with his actual fist, the sound of his knuckles crushing cartilage resonates sickly around the cramped smokey bar
He’s not even using his power, he’s not even bothering to use haki, Marco files this away to sort through when he has some alone time in his room and it’s just him and his hand
The betting pool grows when Ace gets snagged between two skinner bandits, they grab him by the arms and wrench them far back, immobilising his movement but they forget Ace has legs, and a mouth, the leader lurches forth and Ace lifts his weight, using the counter balance of the thugs holding him back to kick out with his booted feet, catching the largest bandit under his diaphragm, hooks up meanly until they’re choking on blood
He gets thrown to the ground for taking out the boss, Marco stands up to intervene when Jozu grabs him back, interfering now would look even worse, let the kid fight out his own battles, Ace chose this, don’t disrespect him by trying to help
But Jozu knows why Marco wanted to join in, it’s been plainly obvious how much he likes Ace, how much Ace likes him back but some sort of social proprietary is keeping them from being together
Ace emerges from his beat down with a bloody nose, a gash above his left eyebrow and a black eye, but it doesn’t seem to deterr him, he backs up hacks up his foamy bloody phlegm and spits, sharp and mean onto the choking mass of man on the floor. Wiping his bloodied face Ace blocks swords with blackened forearms, Marco doesn’t understand why he doesn’t just become fire, why expend the energy on haki. Armament Haki Marco knows Ace is still new to.
Its unfair to go six to one with weapons, his heart lurches up to his throat when a gunshot crack’s open the chaotic air, the bullet should be a bullseye, right between Ace’s smouldering silver eyes, had he not been a logia.
The bandits swear and cower as Ace reforms his “wound” with a crown of fire that burns over his hair turning darkness into gold, he’s well and truly pissed off now, the Whitebeard Pirates can tell in the way he rolls his broad shoulders, squares his heavy jaw and licks over the front of his bloody teeth
Thatch snags their winnings as Ace drops the rest of the men still standing in his way, it’s a thing of beauty, watching Firefist Ace take care of extras like this. They didn’t even cause much harm to him either, panting softly with the sudden exertion, Ace drives his foot, the heel hard onto the leading bandits chest, he still struggles to breathe and Marco thinks with zero pity that Ace may as well have ruptured the poor bastards pleural cavity.
“Do you yield?” Ace growls, his voice deepening to pure bass that reverberates up to the cobwebbed rafters of the tavern.
Marco feels the hairs on the back of his neck stand up and prickle uncomfortably when a wave of something truly primal encompasses all within the space. It feels like they’re underwater, everything looks and sounds fuzzy and syrupy and Marco wonders if he needs to kickstart his own heart again at the realisation that this is what conquerors haki feels like.
Sound rushes back into the room, the candles and lanterns that had been momentarily snuffed out reignite and Ace steps down from his target, theyre all out cold. They could be dead even, Marco has never seen anything more beautiful than Portgas D. Ace in all his 42 years of life.
“Drinks on us folks!” Thatch breaks the thrumming silence with all the exuberance of a man who has just won the lottery, which honestly wasn’t too far off considering they’d just won a massive betting pool, one the chef had snagged in advance due to his faith that Ace would make sure those lowlifes never spoke ill of Pops again
And Ace shoulders his way through the thronging crowd that rises to greet him, tavern folk and bar maids all wanting a glimpse of his fire again but Ace ignores them all, his expression hard, bloodied nose caking dark iron across his mouth and cheek
Until he reaches Marco and before the phoenix has any time to say anything at all Ace hauls him up bodily by the lapels of his open shirt and shoves their mouths together, surprised but not unwelcome to the strange, bloodied kiss, Marco gingerly rights their weird pose and slides his hands around Ace’s trim waist. The feel of large palms against his sides has Firefist crooning something wild and mean against his lips and Marco blindly reaches for his coin purse, drops it on the table to cover whatever he was supposed to and allows the younger man to steer him into a dark corner of the inn.
Idk what to draw

Yes Thatch isn't above killing, not even before eating the fruit. Protecting his families is the most important thing for him. What I meant with changes, was that he before eating the fruit never really liked taking a life or enjoyed the thought of doing whatever was necessary to kee his family alive and safe. After eating the fruit, he kind of enjoy the rush of killing and torturing people. He's also rougher when negotiating prices for food and other supplies. At least that's my hc.
I think, at least when it comes to everyday supply shopping, he’s polite and reasonable at first. Of course he has no problem getting threatening if the situation needs it.
And when it comes to kicking ass and taking lives, if he enjoys hearing an annoying marines bones cracking under the pressure of his gravity pull, then no one needs to know.

I love the idea of Yami Thatch (I do have a Thatch blog, where I sometimes rp him where he's eaten the Yami Yami no Mi). However, I do think that the fruit itself has some influences on the mental state of the person eating it, so it evokes the evil inside to some degree. Thatch does have a little evil, so his personality changes slightly. Not much and not towards his family. That's just my headcanon for a Yami Thatch.
If that was true I honestly don’t think you’d notice a change. They’re pirates, and as criminals they already have questionable morals.
Thatch may not like going on killing sprees and the Whitebeards don’t attack civilians, but none of them are above hurting or killing marines or their enemies. He would not hesitate to crush anyone posing a threat to his family’s safety and/or happiness by sucking them into a black hole.
