#dark deception grem clowns

Alright this fandom seems to barely be alive and this game doesn’t deserve that so I’m making some fan content, here we go:

Ok so. Dark Deception. Chapter 3. Those little clown gremlins.

Remember which powerup was introduced in this level? It apparently works by convincing the monsters that “you’re the bigger monster”? The funny thing is, the grem clowns are. Tiny. Ik Bierce didn’t mean literally, but I just thought that was funny. 

(Also that sorta foreshadows the GIGANTIC bosses at the end now that I think about it. Also notice that primal fear doesn’t work on the goliaths. Cuz they KNOW nothing is “bigger” than them.)

That powerup works especially well on grem clowns. Like if you take that powerup to another level and replay it, it just stuns the enemy. Grem clowns? Occasionally, they go poof. 

That being said, what if that’s because they know that they’re “small”(aka kinda weak), and that’s why the minis always travel in packs? 

Small tangent from the above comment: I know they’d never put this in the game, but if one got separated enough from other grems, what if it gets a little nervous? Like if you walk up to one and you’re both a certain distance away from other grems(as in too far for it to know that others are nearby, since the packs of grems in level 2 seem to have a hive mind when they’re close enough[more on that later]), then it actually gets scared and runs away? 

But if it manages to find other grem clowns, it feels better and starts chasing the player again.

The grem clowns in level 2 are a bit different. They glow in the dark(and knowing them, I’m still not sure if that’s makeup on their face or actual skin so I’m convinced that their skin glows in the dark as well). 

That being said, they’re definitely more used to a darker area, since we only ever see them in the funhouse. So what if the grems in level 2 are sensitive to light? Strong light, at least. The funhouse has some colorful decorations that glow, but that’s more of a soft glow. Just enough to illuminate the area, nothing compared to, like... the actual sun.

Basically I’m thinking that if they were anywhere outside/near an unobstructed window in the middle of a sunny day, they’d be hissing and darting under the nearest-... well, anything, really, as long as it hides them from that super-bright stage light in the sky. 

If they can’t find anything to hide under, they’d probably just dig. And yes, that includes the indoor version of this scenario. They will dig through the floor.

Ok, that’s all I got for now... Might make some more later, idk.

More Dark Deception headcanons

You know how when you hit the grem clowns with a mallet or use primal fear on them in certain spots, they poof into confetti? What if that’s like a natural safety reflex… thingy? Like when they get too hurt, something in their body goes “OH CRUD UH OK THIS PLACE IS OBVIOUSLY DANGEROUS, WE SHOULDN’T BE HERE AND UH… LEAVE SOME COLORFUL DOTS TO DISTRACT THE DANGEROUS THING *poof*”

So size is a bit of a motif in this level, seemingly representing power. Now, remember what I said about the goliath clowns in the last post? Primal fear doesn’t work on them because they know that they’re really strong compared to the player, so it’s basically impossible to make them think that the player is somehow “the bigger monster” when the goliaths can literally squash the player like a bug.

The goliath clowns definitely think they’re powerful and have a lot of confidence. Besides what was mentioned above, just listen to their laugh. Literally all of the other grem clowns have a normal laugh or the occasional mischievous giggle. The goliaths? They do a full evil laugh.

Even though grem clowns seem to be pretty fragile(they’re gone with one whack of a wooden mallet. Granted, it’s a whack to the head, but still, just one whack.), it’s a little hard to believe that a giant like that would be beaten to the point that it can’t fight anymore with two whacks to the hand with a mallet that is barely as long or wide(at the head) as their finger. Considering the above theories, I’m assuming that they don’t stop fighting after that because they’re actually defeated; they just go “UGH, this annoying little worm isn’t worth the trouble. I’m not getting a bruised knuckle over this, that puny little thing isn’t even worth my time!”
