I love imagining Destiny and Dream interactions because Dream is so stern and prodigious, but Destiny is older and stronger than him and does not give a f*ck lol.
Destiny would absolutely say something that could be taken as condescending, or just straight up, point-blank, call Dream on his bullsh*t at some point.
Dream, in all his indignant glory, would be all, "You dare?"
And Destiny would look straight back, like, "You Dare?"
And Dream would immediately backpedal like a kid who just told their mom to shut up.
#The sandman#Dream of the endless#Destiny of the Endless#Endless siblings#More crack Destiny musings because it's so fun#Like Dream'd be a puffed up hissy meow meow as we all know him to be#And Destiny would absolutely only have to raise one challenging brow and go 'Excuse me??'#For Dream to instantly go down and take everything back and just regret hahah#Like--you wanna try that again little brother??? yeah that's what I thought#Dream is crazy if he thinks he will win a 'you dare' battle with Destiny who is even more austere than he is#Lol Spoiler: Dream does NOT dare#Repeat: Does NOT dare against Destiny#That guy pulled him out of a BLACKHOLE for christ's sake! So Dream would come clean up his toys basically

DPXDC prompt. Dead on main. Singer! Phantom x Red Hood!Jason
Laws are easily changed if businessmen smell money.
Paulina and Sam suggest Danny to try to become a singer in order to change society's opinion about ghosts a little. In the end, the otherworldly sound of his voice can at least be used for the benefit of Realms.
And it seems like the Everlasting Trio is really liked by the public. At first they just release a few songs (Exams kill, Battle with myself, What an Autopsy Won't Show, Among the stars). But a mysterious atmosphere mixed with understandable teenage problems begins to take over teens playlists. Their fans want more and more.
So, when under the pressure of the public and profit-hungry bigwigs all bans on the presence of ecto creatures in the United States are lifted, the Trio goes on their first Tour.
~~~~~
Jason stumbles upon Phantom's songs completely by accident. It was painful to hear them for the first time but at the same time it was as if he could breathe again because he had found someone similar. Someone who understands, and who doesn't judge him for coming back wrong. Jason listens to his voice on repeat and the rage seems to recede and subside. There is sadness of loss and fear in the songs but most of them end bringing some hope and this thought gives Red Hood more strength not to break down for another day. and then another, and another..And one day, the green eyes in the mirror do not scare Jason but shows him that he belonging to something more. Todd can't explain it more precisely, but it was as if the waters of Lazarus inside him had calmed down and he was no longer enemies with them. He even jokes with Tim that he is finally rest in peace and ready to live a full undead life when his brother (God, his lil brother whom he wanted to hurt recently because of his own stupidity), asks him about his strange behavior.
~~~~~
Jason forgets how to breathe again. His favorite band, and most importantly his favorite vocalist, is coming to Gotham with a concert. For many years now, none of the nonresidents have dared to take such a risk, but it seems like Phantom has absolutely no instinct for self-preservation. Well, as a true fan, Red Hood will do his best so that none of the gothamites spoil the Trio's impression of their first concert here. Danny is beside himself with excitement. Their concert in the hometown of the Red Hood was approved. Of course, there is no chance that he would be able to meet such a busy vigilante but Phantom continues to dream. If he'll fly a little over the city instead of sleeping after rehearsals, maybe he'll get an autograph from at least one member of the bat clan.
~~~~~ Phantom: Thank you very much Mr. Nightwing sir. Just sign it for.. Nightwing: For a Phantom, right? Huh, I recognized you, my brother has poster in his room. Nice hairstyle by the way. Danny*urgently*: Which one of them?
Nightwing: Jeez, and I thought it was just a stage image. Ghosts are kinda creepy. Terribly persistent, to be precise. And yeah, Jason, he absolutely not against you as a vigilante. You can safely ask Phantom to sign your helmet, I promise. Man was so happy when find out you're listening to his songs, you have no idea.
Jason *holds out a hand*. Nightwing: What? Jason: If you dared to meet Phantom before me, then where is my autograph? Nightwing: Em..oops? I gave him mine if it helps.
Jason: *sounds of an angry lazarus demon*.
I'm A Fire And I'll Keep Your Brittle Heart Warm [One Shot]
SUMMARY | Flowers come to Aemond in multiple shapes and forms throughout his marriage.
WARNINGS | 18+; Mild Smut.
WORD COUNT | 9.6k
A/N | Yet another repost, yay! This one was written based off an ask sent to me by @wonderbias and beta read by the loml @humanpurposes
Their union began as a fragile, delicate one.
By all accounts, Aemond Targaryen was a fine man that any maiden in the Seven Kingdoms would be proud to be with, should heâ a skilled dragonrider, a scholar, a respectful man of honor, a prince worthy of his name and bloodâ choose to take her to wife.Â
If only he was not so stoic and dull, they said. The very jovial little lady of Highgarden will be bored of him in moments!
âTwas the first of many whispers he heard of his apparent inadequacy with regards to his impending nuptials and marriage, and even though it killed him, he could not bring himself to disagree. The woman that he was to marry â the beautiful, kind, ladylike wisp of a girl that was to be entrusted to himâ was a fair maiden who lit up any chamber she graced with her presence, a stark contrast to how he seemed to darken those that he stalked into.
Charming girl like that, she will hate him, they said. The poor thing is probably scared.
Every lady dreamed of chivalrous knights and charming princes, and Aemond knew very well that he was far from being either. They dreamed of charming men who would immortalize them in song, whose looks could thaw the hearts of the coldest women in an instant. Aemond knew very well that the Gods had refused him the chance to even try with herâ what with their allowance of his mutilation at a tender, young age.Â
Even with just one eye, he saw many possibilities but to his dismay, he did not imagine any outcome would be favorable to him. With the scar he carried on his face and the weight of the world on his shoulders, Aemond was never meant to be the man that his intended deserved.Â
And so, he decided that he would keep her at arm's length and in consequence, save his pride. He'd reject her before she rejected him. He may not know it now, but matters of the heart are fickleâ and to the utter disappointment of his pride, his little lady rose was very easy to love.Â
He would not be caught dead pathetically pining after a woman who would soon be his. He would not.
And so, their courtship remained devoid of romance and scandal. His family was made privy to each of their highly appropriate conversations, with them taking turns in chaperoning their walks through the gardens.Â
There was nothing that he wished to share, for he did not want to lose too much. He did what was expected of him, and she did the very same. Soon, there was respect, admiration, and a whole host of burgeoning feelings that Aemond tried hard to suppress - feelings that he clearly did not see in her eyes as she dared to look into his.
How could she feel anything for a stoic, dull, one-eyed man like him?
As he draped the red and black cloak over her shoulder and pledged to be her man of liege and limb, he told himself that he would not try. He would not give into fantasies, only to be met with rejection from a woman who was too good for him; one that may realize it soon enough as well.
After all, Aemond Targaryen had his pride. He would feed himself to the dragons before admitting to someone else being better than him, let alone be rejected by that same person. He was certainly not going to woo her, not when he knew that he would only be met with contempt and disgust.
It did not matter how badly he wanted to. He would not allow himself to succumb to such idyllic daydreams. He would not.
When night fell and the wedding feast was in full swing, his new good-father was the only one who could give his brother a run for his money with how deep he was in his cups. It was obvious how the wine-induced stupor affected the fat lord Tyrell as he bellowed for his daughter and his new good son to take the lead and join in the dancing and merriment.
Aemond was ready to retch at the thought, but what stopped him from making his irritation clear was the possibility that she may want to dance. His wife. He had seen her dance beforeâ as graceful as an otherworldly swan. She had a better grasp at frivolous courtly affairs than he did.Â
His wife may want to dance. His wife, his wife, his wife. A little rose, his.
He shuffled his feet under the cloth-covered long table and allowed his one eye to train over his clothed boots. In spite of all the dancing lessons he had taken with Helaena, Aemond had never indulged beforeâ and now, he was expected to entertain his bride each time a song played. The thought made him want to press his feet into the ground further than he already has, in hopes that perhaps the ground would swallow him whole.
His view of the dancing crowd had been taken from him by half along with his eye. Without the luxury of complete vision, he could not dance without bumping into everyone that was on his blind side. Now, he would have toâ if she wanted to.Â
He thought he could say no, but he feared that if he were to look her in the eyes, he'd never be able to. Perhaps that was why he had refused to even look at her throughout the ceremony, despite her many admirableâ yet failedâ attempts to catch his line of sight and share a smile.
It was her meek, mouse-like voice that brought him out of his nervous trance. âWe do not have to," she said, the words falling out of her lips like a song.
âYou like to dance, my lady,â he said.
âBut you do not, my prince. It takes two.â Her surprisingly understanding words were followed by a timid smile, one that threatened to rip through his defenses and get to him.
In the crowded throne room, as his new bride sets aside her happiness to accommodate his preferences, Aemond worried that his self-imposed distance from her may not last too long if she kept offering him kind glances and sweet smilesâ no matter how forced and dutiful he knew them to be.
He had much to lose; his pride, his heart. He would not risk it, even if she was seemingly easy to love. He would not. He would not. He would not.
After all, Aemond Targaryen had his pride.Â
Soon after, her drunk nuisance of a father had called for the bedding. Aemond did nothing as his trembling bride was ushered away by the handmaidens and ladies, each of them wriggling her jewelry off as she stumbled in her steps before they carried her off.
Should he have asked for a private bedding? In hindsight, he believed he wronged her by throwing her to the mercies of the court in her vulnerability. Equally, he did not want to attempt a show of compassionâ not when she may not even welcome it from the one-eyed fiend of a husband that she was stuck with.
When he walked into the chambers in his loose linen shirt and breeches, his breath hitched in his throat. Helaena had once told him that the Septas refer to womenâs maidenheads as flowers. âBeautiful, ripe and ready for the plucking,â she had said, keeping her nose pointed upward in her imitations. He'd never given the words much thought.Â
Until now.
There she was. His wife, his flower, his rose, ready for plucking, in her translucent white shift and now untamed hair, like a fae in a dream. How could she possibly be his? How could she possibly be happy with a man as monstrous as him for a husband?Â
Her eyes, wide and fearful, flittered about his face, in his mind an expression of her repulsion. It pained him to think she did not even give him a chance.
But she was accommodating about my not wanting to danceâŚÂ
Perhaps she did like to dance; just not with him.Â
These unsaid words and subsequent misunderstandings plagued their wedding night. Both believed the other did not desire them.Â
That night, she offered her flower to himâ as is her dutyâ and he took great care in taking it from her. He made sure she was pliant, so that when he took it, she would be as glad and thrilled as he was, regardless of how well-hidden his happiness was.Â
He may have grimaced in disgust at Aegon's vulgar demonstrations and lessons about the pleasures of the marital bed, but he was thankful as he heard her moan out his name in a silent scream while she convulsed around his fingers. The silent sounds of her choked out moans and the heat engulfing his fingers may have very well been enough for Aemond to find release, and he reminded himself quickly that she will not want him when they're done. How could she, deformed as he was?
And so, he stopped wanting to be good for her, and simply endeavored to get it done with.
She was only more than willing to allow him to take her flower. If he was not so preoccupied with his own insecurities, he may have seen that it had gone past duty for her. Her loud moans proved the fact, and left little room for dispute (or doubt, in the minds of the prying ears that stayed close to the doors of their chambers, and the sharp eyes of the council who were now shuffling out of their seats).
He inched into her, and her tears and turned face only seemed to make it harder for him. Was he so beyond hope that she could not even look? What was it? Had he hurt her? He did not ask, lest he risk finding out that he was a disappointment. So he lost himself, drowned in his own head as he mechanically moved in and out, in and out, in and out.Â
Duty. Duty. Duty.
If he had not been so preoccupied with tearing his own being to shreds in his mind, he may have heard her moans as the bright pink tip of his cock hit a rough spot in her, allowing her pleasures and experiences she did not believe she would ever know. He may have known that she desired him, just as he did her.
His self-deprecating thoughts couldn't have been farther from the truthâ he may not have realized it that night, but he would soon enough.
Flowers came to Aemond in multiple shapes and forms throughout his marriage, and the first ever flower she gave himâ whether she chose to see it that way or notâ came to him on their wedding night, in the form of her maidenhead.
Tourneys were a time of celebration for her.
There was something to be said about the romance of watching men ask women for favors and fight with all the might and grace that they possess. She had often dreamed that a dashing knight or a courteous prince would perhaps approach her for her favor, and then perhaps crown her Queen of Love and Beauty. If she was lucky, the man would court her too.
The man she married was the antithesis of all that she hoped a tourney would bring.
Her husband was not a bad man by any meansâ no. He was a good and respectful husband, slightly removed and isolated for her outward nature, but she did not mind. There were worse men to be married to, and even if he never went out of his way to be there for her, he certainly treated her well when they were in each otherâs presence.
She tried with him, Gods bless her.Â
She would try to catch his eye at the supper table, or watch him train in hopes that he would meet her watchful gaze once or twice. She would watch in a sleepy haze as he woke early in the morn, long before she had the strength or consciousness to wish him a good day, hoping he would turn to do the same. He never did.
More often than not, a curt nod and a wavering glance was all sheâd get. Still there were brief, hopeful moments that kept her active in her pursuit to build a friendship with her husband.
She would have done something absolutely obnoxiousâ acts that would have him sneering if it was someone elseâ and sheâd see it. That little hint of a smile, waiting to bubble through the surface, just by the corner of his pink lips, that she would have missed if she blinked. Each time there was a tenuous beginning of a hesitant smile, she felt a tiny sliver of hope.
He was not so intimidating to her now as he was in the initial days of their unionâ no. In a little corner of her mind, she acknowledged that factâ that is what helped her find his hand and hold it tight in nervousness, before she could even comprehend the intimacy of the act.
The knight who had just taken a harsh tumble from his horse was carried away by servants, with his head beaten bloody and hands hanging limp by his side. If she did not know better, she would have thought him dead.
The champion then raised his hands up in victory. Thunderous clapping sounds overshadowed all else around her, but she could not bring herself to join. She was still stunned by how the other knight had fallen, and was yet to let go of Aemondâs hand.
She felt the bile rise in her throat, so she brought her other hand to her chest and bowed her head down, a feeble attempt at keeping the vomit at bay. It was awhile until she managed to catch her breath again, and by then the celebrations had moved on from celebrating the champion to the crowning of his Queen of Love and Beauty.
The eldest Lady Baratheon smiled coyly as she received the wreath of winter roses, followed by a chaste kiss to her cheek. The crowd gasped at how brazen the act was, with neither of them being married, but the high of winning makes men do the most peculiar things, she supposed. In the back of her mind, regardless of how uneasy she felt, she wishedâ desperately.Â
How she wished it was her.Â
A childish fantasy really. What was a publicly gifted crown of flowers worth in the face of what she had? She was a Princess of the realm now, married to a skilled dragonrider from a family of illustrious history and blood. Any children they may have will be immortalized in the annals. Nothing. A crown of flowers was worth nothing when compared to what she hadâ or at least, that is what she would tell herself.
And yet, she craved the romance. She had always enjoyed the idea of being loved and cherished. Her husband respected her, and if she was feeling bold, sheâd say he liked herâ but he certainly did not love her. That much she was certain of. When she naively wished that heâd crown her, she asked if he was going to enter the lists. He had sharply turned so quickly that she feared she had angered him.
âI donât give a shâŚâ He had sighed before speaking again, as though he felt tested. âI do not care for tourneys.â The sharpness in his voice had hurt her, and she did not speak of it again.
Their marriage was a decent oneâ but it held none of the love she hoped to have, despite all her attempts.
Did he find her so disagreeable?
All of a sudden, his hand felt cold to the touch and she let go of him like he burned her. The heat came back to her hand just as it showed on her cheeks, and his had turned cold from having lost her touch so abruptly.
âIâd like to get some fresh air, husband,â she said, and rose before he could even ask if she needed him to accompany her.
Her quick walk took her to the tent where the court ladies had been sitting, and she had stepped in right in time to hear them gossipâ about her husband.
âWell he must keep it on while they⌠you know! It can be jarring to look at, Iâm sure it is!â
âIt must be terrible to see it up close all the time. I can hardly look at him from across the chamber!â
He is certainly unnerving. It does make you wonder though, do you think they actuallyâŚâ the woman lowered her voice to match the vulgarity that was to follow. âDo you think they actually fuck? She cannot possibly want to, and she is not with child eitherâŚâ
âWell, does it really matter if she wants to? Heâs a Prince, and her husband. Heâll take his pleasure regardless.â
Regardless of where she and her husband stood, she would not stand for their marriage to become fodder for court gossip. If she stayed quiet for any longer while these empty-headed women berated her husband, she would be insulting him herself.
âMight I ask what is so amusing?â she said with sharp eyes and a tilted head. The sweat on their faces upon her arrival was apparent, and so was their nervousness.
âMy Lady, we were justââ
âPrincess,â she corrected.
âYes of course, Princess. We were justââ
âMaking presumptions about my marriage?âÂ
âNo⌠we justâŚâ
âDonât deny it,â she seethed, anger looking completely foreign on a soft, comely face like hers. Her nostrils flared and her nose went red in her current state, but there was no way she could stop now.Â
âThe next time you feel the need to comment on such matters , perhaps you will all learn to remind yourself that he is a Prince of the realm and I am his wife! There will be suitable punishment, and you will all be dismissed from court at my pleasure, disgraced and husbandless. Now, we wouldnât want that, would we?â Her words were cutting and sharp, and they had the younger ladies bowing their heads in fear almost immediately.
âIâll have you all know that unlike the other men of the court, Prince Aemondâs scar came to him along with the largest dragon in the world. His bravery only makes him more handsome to me.â
She then fixed her attention onto the married lady of the bunch and delivered a questionable blow that she would certainly feel bad about later. âIf youâve been led to believe that the man takes his pleasure from his wife even if she does not want to, then perhaps your marriage is a lot worse than I thought. Your husband must have no regard for your wants, unlike mine. And for that, I am truly sorry.â
She did not wait for them to respond as she gathered her skirts and walked out of the tent, feeling largely annoyed and satisfied to an extent. But as she began her walk back, the fear of news of her anger reaching her husband hit her like a harsh and heavy wave.
Would he call her insolent and disgraceful? Has she damaged her marriage more than it already has been?
She did not have to wait long for her answer, for Aemond had been just a few steps behind her, watching the entire scene unfold. The angry flush on her face left her as quickly as it had come, replaced by a skittish nervousness that led to her shuffling her feet as she stood before him, at a complete loss for words.
She swallowed the spit gathering in her mouth, throat bobbing as her head remained facing down to the floor, awaiting a scolding from him for her absolutely inexcusable behavior; her husband was a man who knew his courtesies, after all. He could not possibly be happy with how she carried herself and disappointed him.
âYou do not look well. Let me walk you to our chambers,â was all he said before he led her away with a hand on the small of her back.
She remained worried that he was perhaps leading them to privacy and silence so he could punish her while being undisturbed. She could not have been farther from the truth.
She expected him to scream at her, forget all the courtesy that he had shown her and throw his words at her without care. What she was not prepared for, was for him to hold her chin between his thumb and index fingers, pulling her face up to meet his.
He curiously inspected her, almost as though her little show of anger thoroughly amused him. She would not be surprised if it didâ she had never been so outward in her anger in the two months that they had been married; this was a completely new side to her that he was now privy to.
âWhat was that, wife?â His words were measured and cut.Â
âTheyâŚâ She was stunned to find that, despite her tongue becoming loose in moments of anger, it was hard for her to speak right now. So, she chose to gulp once more and tried to look someplace else. The uncertainty in his sharp, one-eyed violet gaze was becoming too much for her to bearâ but Aemond did not give up easily. He kept her head held in place as she desperately waited for the words to come to her.
âThey were being crude, and insulting you.â
He looked at her for a moment, his sharp gaze refusing to waver as the sunlight pierced through the glass windows of their chamber. He then let go of her, and handed her a goblet of wine to calm her clearly unsteady senses. He watched as she took little sips from the chalice, the restless turning of the wheels in his mind apparent on his face.Â
Soon after, he made up a sham of a reason about having to leave when the cheering crowds became louder and louder. She nodded and continued to sip, completely oblivious to the change of heart that her husband was having as she wondered why he brought her back to their bed.
She did not know the thoughts that now ran fast and surely in his mind. She did not know that he thought his eye had cost him a chance at a happy marriage with her. She had no idea of knowing how conflicted he felt at the new realization, for his sculpted face gave nothing away.
He turned to face her with a hand on the door. âThank you,â he mumbled.
She nodded and smiled meekly while he stalked back to the festivities.
He held his hands tightly behind him as he tried to make sense of how light his heart felt in comparison to the rest of him.Â
Back in the chamber, she blushed. For all her worry that he may have been disappointed, she had been completely floored by how he had respondedâ he was thankful. She berated herself for not considering the possibilityâ and smiled at the realization that for all her husbandâs prowess as a warrior, in times like these, he needed a champion too.Â
That night, Aemond burned the midnight oil while reading in the library, trying to still his racing heart and make sense of how it leapt at newfound thoughts of his little wife.Â
Across the Holdfast, in the soft candlelight of their shared chambers, she sat on her husbandâs dear chair, looking at her handiworkâ an embroidered silk tourney favor, with a little rose.
Her husband may not care for tourneys, but making the favor allowed her the luxury of thinking that should the possibility of him willingly entering the lists come around, he would do so with her gift on his lance. Mayhaps he would crown her Queen of Love and Beauty tooâ the thought makes her blush.
She would give it to him should he ever choose to partake someday. Until then, it would be safely hidden away in her shelves, amidst her gowns and other possessions.
Flowers have came to Aemond in multiple shapes and forms throughout his marriage, and the second flower that was intended for himâ despite the fact that she was yet to give it to himâ came to him on the day of the the twinsâ name day tourney, in the form of a rose, embroidered onto a tourney favor.Â
They have come to enjoy each other's company.
Her coming to his defense while expecting nothing in return had lit a fire in Aemond that he could not seem to quell. What he believed she had rejected him over, she had actually taken to being proud of. What he had believed was his one big, obvious and visible fatal flaw, was something that she had taken to holding in high regard.
Iâll have you lot know that unlike the other men of the court, his scar came to him along with the largest dragon in the world. And his bravery only makes him more handsome to me.
Her words rang in his mind like the definite tolling of the Great Bell at the Royal Sept. With each chime, her assertiveness on the matter came back to linger in his thoughts, he had fallen for her â bit by bit.Â
Feelings had always been a conundrum to Aemond, one that he did not entirely understand or even want to. But now, with a wife who warmed him and his heart slowly but surely, with her lovely smiles and nervous face, he found that he would like some certainty in the face of all that was uncertain in his heart.
He did not know if he loved her just yet. But what he did know was that, at the pace that she had set for them, it may be a very short while before he does. His wife. His wife, his wife, his wife.Â
His, his, his.
Coming to terms with having a wife that actually desired his companyâ and him, surprisingly enoughâ had spurned his attempts to bring some sort of intimacy to their marriage. Gods knew that she had tried, only to be rebuffed rudely by him in the initial days of their marriage. It was a time that he now felt deep regret and shame for, one that he would not rest until he had made right.Â
He needed her to see that he wanted to try.
He did not know how to be the charming prince from a bardâs songs. He did not know how to make women laugh like Aegon; be as sweet and kind as Helaena; or as chivalrous and perfect as Daeron.Â
But what he did know was respect. Aemond understood respect as something that was earned by everyone around him, but to his wife, it should have been unconditional. It should have come to her the day he had cloaked her and made her hisâ but it did not. Now, he intended to make it right.
He needed her to see that he wanted to tryâ which is how he found himself with her on his arm, as they walked hand in hand through the corridors of Maegorâs Holdfast towards their chambers. Ah yes, hand in hand. Another one of the little joys that he savored like it was his last day alive.Â
Their initially cold marriage had also been fueled by his blatant refusal to simply be near her, much less touch her. Why would she have wanted to be touched by a one-eyed monster, such as the likes of him?Â
But the moment he realized that she did not consider him soâ not in the leastâ led to a warmth seeping through his blood, making him crave her so much that his heart hurt. If she did not mind it, why must he not exercise his liberties? And if there was some joy to be derived from it, why would they not want to indulge?
And so he had begun. A stolen touch here, a featherlight graze there.Â
His huge, calloused hand, seemed to be always holding her dainty one as he accompanied her throughout their time in the castle; on the small of her back as they maneuvered through feasts and dances; around her waist as they closed the distance between each other in their sleep, with her back to his chest; clutching onto her thigh to keep her in place for when she turned around and draped her tiny leg upon his waist.
His hands, all over her.
It was not just these fleeting, quick touches that Aemond had grown to enjoy. With their bond growing stronger with each passing moment, he had realized that their marital duties were simply not duties anymore. They had gone from believing that the other had tolerated their presence, to trying their level best so that the other would know how much they desired them. The growth of their marriage was evident in how their carnal indulgences had evolved.
Where he had held himself to hover over her so as to not facilitate any unnecessary touches, he had now taken to covering her entire being with his own. His hands around her hip as he pounded into her; her hands on his chest as the tip of her fingers grazed and pinched at his nipples. His hands in her hair as he mouthed at her heaving breast; her hands around him as she held onto him as tightly as she could, never wanting to let him go. His hands on her cunt as he drew peak after peak from her before thrusting himself into her; her hands around his cock as she pumped him before impaling herself by straddling him, just the way he liked.Â
Their sounds of pleasure had been held back and muffled in the beginning, but now they were uninhibited sounds taken by the wind, made with the intent of being heard and making desires known. Â
Oh yes, their marriage had grown.Â
This is what Aemond had been pondering as he led her through, with servants making their way for the young prince and princess as she held onto her husband with one hand, and a piece of rolled parchment and some charcoal on the other. He enjoyed their touches now, and it made his heart soar that he did not have to doubt her want for him either.Â
Yes, they could make something out of this.
âHow was your time in the gardens, wife?â It made him happy that with the growth of their marriage, she had taken to exercising her liberties. So, when she had come to him requesting charcoal and bound parchment so she could begin drawing again, he was only happy to oblige.Â
âGood. I managed to sit and watch the flowers flit about in the wind for a time, and I drew a bit as well. Then the court ladies came to join me as theyâŚâ
Aemond listened to his wife as he sat himself on his chair by the hearth, most intently, and with the utmost concentration that he could muster. He could not bring himself to make selfless romantic declarations of love, or speak to her more than he was able. But he could listen, and that is what he would do.Â
Not a word unheard, not a moment missed. He needed her to see that he wanted to try.
She prattled on and on about her day, and how the court ladies had gossiped about each other when they thought the other wasnât listening. He listened to the way her voice heightened when her recollections were happy, and he noted the way she frowned when she was in disapproval. He observed how her eyes widened at shocking narrations, and how her hands seemed to move like they had a life of their own.Â
He kept observing, losing himself in his newfound knowledge of her, her, her⌠and it was not until she stood close to him, her body slotted between his legs as she held her hands behind her back that he realized she had stopped speaking.
âGo on.â
He did not expect to be given something, not when his name day had just passed. But that is exactly what happened.Â
âFor you,â she said. With her raised eyebrows and coy smile, she managed to place a parchment roll into his hand. Aemond made note of how her head faced down and her feet shuffled as she stood in wait for his approval.
He unrolled the parchment, careful to not cause even a stray tear at the edges. His eyes raked over the drawing, one of clear skill and years of training of the highest levelâ one befitting a lady.
âI shall treasure it, thank you.âÂ
She smiled at his acceptance, and he nodded. He was not a smiling man, but he hoped that she knew how much he appreciated these gestures. He hoped that their marriage had grown enough for her to notice his quirks, just as he had made note of hers.
Flowers came to Aemond in multiple shapes and forms throughout his marriage, and the third flower that she had given him was a charcoal sketch of a rose, into which she had poured her heart and soul.
As the days passed, their mornings became brighter.
While she had hoped that the initial days of their marriage would have some semblance of love, and if not, at least affection to some extent, her hopes had been quickly dashed with the closed off and curt behavior that her husband seemed to have made his own. Neither did he ever wish her a good morrow upon sunrise, nor did he kiss her goodnight like in the songs.
But now, there was more.
Where there was coldness, there was now warmth. It was not heat, not like wildfire, noâ it was warmth, like from the calm blaze of their hearth. She might not have awoken to a smile, noâ her husband was not a smiling manâ but she always woke to an arm snaked over her breasts, pressing into her. Where there was distance, oceans between them, there was now a shared intimacy, one that they had both been quietly happy about. She was not put to sleep with a kiss, but whenever she slept on the chaise waiting for him to arrive, he now ensured that she was put into comfortable clothes and carried to their bed with care.Â
He may not have cared for her in the beginning, but she knew he did now. Her husband was not a romantic man, but his small gestures were enough to make her feel happy and content.
The shift in their dynamic was not just visible in their daytime activities, but in the passions of their marriage bed as well. On the first night that they had coupled, he had been careful, experimental, doubtful. But as the days went by, he had become surer, rougher⌠insatiable.
She enjoyed this new side to him. She enjoyed being the woman that belonged to a fierce prince, the one that he so clearly desired. She enjoyed being held by him as he moved her up and down his cock, his head buried in her breasts as he breathed in the heady smell of sweat and sex. She enjoyed being impaled by him, her small body being split into two, all while having him whisper words of appreciation in her ears.Â
My little wife, my little flower. Made for me⌠only for me, he would say. Tell me who this cunt belongs to, he would growl, hands slapping her little nub over and over until she caught her breath, found her voice again and appeased him.
You! Gods⌠to you, my prince, she would whine, holding his hand in place, hoping he would fuck her with his fingers once more, just the way she liked.
It came as no surprise to her that ever since they had become welcome to each otherâs affections, they had been a lot more active in their marriage bedâ so much so that the lewd moans and loud curses had become court gossip.
When she had addressed the matter with him once soon after they had fucked, Aemond had smiled, albeit darklyâ the only kind of smile that suited him. Dragons do not concern themselves with the opinions of sheep, he had said. His insinuation that she was now a dragon too, all while his warm breath fanned her neck and his large hands squeezed her backside, was all she needed to quell her worries.
And of course, as was the natural order of these things, she was now with child.
She had been overjoyed when she had found out, and a tad relieved too. The court ladies whispering about her womb was not something she appreciatedâ their assumptions about her being barren, even less. So when she found out, she insisted that she be the one to break the news to her husbandâ her time as an expectant mother would never completely be her own, given the station she had now married into.Â
But this, this moment could be hers and his. It would be theirs alone.
And so, she sat in wait at the training grounds, watching him as he expertly maneuvered his sword and slashed at his mentor, Ser Cole. Dodge, lunge, slash. Dodge, lunge, slash. Dodge, lungeâ
Ser Cole had bested him, having noticed the predictability in his movements. Aemond of course, being the headstrong man that he was, refused to give up. The anger in his face at being won over in a fight did not escape her, and she would be lying if she said it did not awaken desire in her once more. Before she could think further however, one of the lords in the audience had piped up.Â
âPerhaps the Prince would benefit from a token of luck from his dear lady wife!â He said, and the watching crowd around them seemed to agree as they cheered and whistled. Aemond was flummoxed, not knowing how to cope with being faced with the topic of his wife while in the middle of a fight. It was only then that he noticed her, red-faced and smiling as she wasâ before he could say anything, she had taken the lead.
âIâm afraid Iâve come empty handed, my lord. Iâve nothing to offer him right now!â She quipped with a smile. It had warmed him to know that she was jovial enough for the two of them, allowing him the luxury of staying quiet as she became his champion during situations like these.
âAh well, he knows youâre here now, Princess! If that does not add to his fire, I do not know what will!â
Perhaps it was her presence, or it was his own prowess as a swordsman. But Aemond was quick to come through this time around. The crowds cheered for their Prince, and so did the man who had taught him to be all that he was.
âWell met, my prince,â Ser Cole said. He patted her dragon prince on his shoulder and walked over to where the swords were arranged. Aemond quickly followed in reverence to his teacher, one that he did not freely give to most. Soon after, the crowds had dispersed, and she watched as his slender, tall form stalk towards her.
âSince when do you frequent the training grounds, wife?â
âCan a wife not seek her husband out when she wants to?âÂ
She could not have imagined rhetorics like these tumbling out of her mouth in the initial days of their union. But they were now closer than they had ever been, and she had discovered that it would not hurt to take initiative, especially given how quiet of a man her husband could be.
He was not the charming prince from the books or the songs, but she certainly loved who he wasâ inquisitive, considerate and respectful.
âHm. Perhaps.â
Their walk back to their apartments was a slow and quiet one, with her knowing that he preferred his moments of quiet soon after his training. They soon settled into the solar, with the food spread out for them to break their fast.
As was his habit, Aemond stripped himself of his clothes as she checked the water in the tub with the tips of her fingers, water rippling as her hands moved. He was quick to step in and let his hands rest on either side of the tub, his legs ramrod straight but slowly loosening up as she ran a washcloth over him with a gentle softness that is most unlike him.
Her hands glided over his chest, arms and he caught hold of her when her hands moved to clean his neck, beckoning her to come closer. âMy dutiful little flower, hm? Come to assist her husband and answer his every beck and call.â
âI am nothing, if not dutiful.â She said, playful smile teasing him as her breasts threatened to spill out of the neckline of her dressâ causing his cock to half-harden at the sight. She kissed his cheek and set the washcloth down, hands traveling to his alabaster hair as she ran her fingers through it, allowing her wet hands to trudge through. When she was done, he was quick to pull at her hand from his side, causing her to bend to meet him, eyes to eye.
âYou have a council meeting to get to, husband. Now is not the time.âÂ
She knew very well what he wanted. It was what she wanted tooâ which is precisely why her own protests meant absolutely nothing to her as she gave in, dress riding up to her thighs and billowing wet in the water as she straddled him. Her cunt was already soaked for him, and he was hot and ready from all the energies that training seemed to have put into him. She rocked her hips forward and backward, adjusting to his girth, while sighing and breathing at the feeling of having him in her. It did not matter how many times heâd taken her, she would never get used to feeling so full.Â
Soon enough, he had her held harshly by her waist in a bruising grip, his teeth nibbling at her sensitive nipples as he moved her up and down, up and down, up and down. The water crashed out of the tub like waves crashing onto shore and she was quick to fall apart in a mix of pain and pleasure, moaning his name in her broken voice, followed by a silent scream. His release followed soon after, cock twitching in her as he drew her closer, closer and closer still. When she felt his cock soften after a time, she got up and he let her, following close behind.Â
âYou fought well today, husband.â She said, in a feeble attempt to coerce a conversation from him as they sat at the table. He was a man of silence, and she was not. He did not prefer it, but she would try anyway - because there were times when he indulged her.
âHm. Thank you.â
The smell of cut fruit was intoxicating to her, more so than usual. She had heard of women craving peculiar kinds of food during their time as expectant mothers, so she supposed that this may have to do with the little dragon that she now grew in her belly. The rest of their time eating moved in a swift silenceâ a comfortable one. The only sounds they heard were of the servants in the corridors and the birds chirping from out the window.
When they finished, the trays were taken away and he got up, ready to leave to sit in on the council meeting that his grandfather had called him for. He was halfway out the door after nodding to her when she took his hand, and he stopped.
Her hands held onto his as tightly as they could, and she was skittish as she continued to look down at the floor. By now, he knew her quirks well enough to know that she did that only when she wanted to say something.
âGo on.â He urged her as his other hand reached for her too.
She drew in a sharp breath as she bit her lip. âI⌠I am with child, husband.â
She did not know what to expect from him of her newsâ but his silent sigh and slight smile as his hands reached down to cover her belly in his hold is enough of a reaction. âThank you,â he said, his gratitude and happiness made obviousâ to her, even if not to anyone else. She did nothing but smile as his forehead met hers in a soft touchâ their touches were always passionate and rough while in the privacy of their chambers, so it was peculiar for her to be treated this way. She found that she enjoyed it, just as much as she enjoyed being roughly handled by him.
She then stretched the fingers of one hand, revealing a little silk patch, a little tourney favor with a rose stitched on it. A flower, from his little flower.
âI know you do not prefer tourneys, but⌠it is my hope that you would at least keep it with you while you train.â
His hands ran over the soft silk, fingers tracing the intricate patterns that she had clearly taken her time with. He was quick to smoothen it out and pocket it, following it with a kiss to her lips.Â
âThank you, for everything.âÂ
The favor was only meant for the training grounds. But a week later, when she found it peeking out of his pocket while they walked around the gardens, she smiled. Soon, she found out that he kept it with him all day.
Flowers came to Aemond in multiple shapes and forms throughout his marriage, and the fourth flower that she gave to him, came to him in the form of a favor with an embroidered rose, one that he kept on his person at all times.
There was something to be said about the comforts of silence.
Her husband was not a smiling man, nor was he an ardent conversationalist. Being a woman who leaned towards being both, she had begun their marriage with the intent of treading lightly, lest she annoy him or risk having him dismiss her halfway through. And she did try; Gods knew that she did.Â
Royal marriages were a sacred dutyâ those held in its sanctity would have to hold themselves to a higher standard, no matter how much it hurt them. With that being said, she was eternally thankful for Aemond understanding her preferences and trying to meet her halfway. She had been prepared for a man who would coldly dismiss her and her wants, but she had not been prepared for one that would actually want her.
One of the greatest pains of being born a noblewoman, she supposed, was that happiness in itself, was a privilegeâ one that she wished was not as such. She wished for it to be an easy thing to have, and as such, understood that she had been blessed with a quiet and peaceful marriage - one that did not take from her more than she was willing to give. It did not matter how many times she thought it overâ she never failed to be as grateful as she was at the first realization, many moons ago.Â
These were her thoughts as she accompanied her husband in the library. Aemond sat opposite her, on the other side of the table with his finger running over the texts of the Summer and Winter Annals, deeply engaged in the knowledge that the book had to offer on the now lost Kingdom of Sarnor, once a famed trade partner of Valyria.Â
The fresh assortment of flowers lay haphazardly on her side of the bench, while she worked towards entwining them all onto the coir to make a crown. She often stole a glance at her husband as she repeatedly adjusted herself on her seat, one that was bigger than her usual one - to accommodate her, and the babe that she now carries.Â
An heir, a royal heir. There is dragon blood in you now, he had said.Â
She felt it, what with her babeâs constant reminders - boy or girl, the kicks were hard and swift, and it never failed to take her by surprise.
Aemond was a very fast reader, she gathered. His pages turned a lot faster than hers did, and his eyes never stuck to one part of the parchment for long - they flitted about and were restless, aiding him in his desire to learn as much as he can in the least amount of time. They have been married for half a year by now, and yet she manages to learn something new about him every day.
Her deft fingers worked through the stems of the flowers, piercing the sharp ends of the coir through them. In and out, in and out, in and out, she went - establishing a pattern that she ended up memorizing, whether she was cognizant of it or not.
Aemond stood up as he noticed a guard waiting near the doors, summoning him on behalf of the King. Her crown was now completely done, and she admired her handiwork as she twirled it in her finger and smiled. Aemond was now speaking to the guard as she ran the tip of her fingers over the petals. She brought it closer to her nose to smell them - the flowers were not as fragrant as they were once before, but there was a faint scent that she adored.Â
He nodded, and she could not help but smile again as he approached her. It struck her harder with each moment, how the Gods had blessed her with him - him with his infinite knowledge, calm disposition and otherworldly beauty. She wondered if the babe she carried would look like him - she hopes, hopes and hopes that they would.
He took the crown of flowers in his hands and handled it with the same care that she put into making it. It looked thoroughly out of place, yet so at home in his hands - much like herself.
A mildly happy lift at the edge of his lips caused a sharp dimple - one that made him look harsh, content and menacing at the same time. She may have wished for a Prince from the songs all the moons ago - but right now, she could not help but think that she had been blessed with someone greater, even if she knew that he did not believe it himself.Â
He placed the crown atop her head, crowning her. She remembered wishing he would crown her Queen of Love and Beauty at the twinsâ name day tourney - but at this moment, as his fingers glided over her smooth hair to set the crown of white roses into place, she was happier than she could have ever been at any tourney.
âEscort the Princess safely to our chambers,â he ordered, after rubbing her growing stomach and giving her a kiss on her temple before going to meet the King. She stood slowly, and noticed that one unused and withering flower had been left behind. The air from outside the castle gushed through the windows, and it was purely by instinct that she grabbed it by the stem and placed it inside the pages of Aemondâs book before the pages flew - so it would be marked and he could begin where he left off if he so wished.
Long after her exit, Aemond came back to his bench after finishing his meeting with the King. He noticed the protruding stem, and he could not help but feel the warmth coarse through his chest as he opened the tome and found the withering flower pressed inside.
Flowers came to Aemond in multiple shapes and forms throughout his marriage, and the fifth flower that she gave to him came to him in the form of a dried rose, one that he kept tucked safely inside his favorite book.
It was moments like these that made Aemond believe in anyone but himself.
Being able to love someone blindly was not a gift that Aemond ever found himself capable of giving. Ever since the loss of his eye, he had grown to be full of spite and resentment, believing that having his dragon was enough to make the loss of company around him worthwhile. Nobody knew how to speak to him anymoreâ how does one comfort a boy who could only see half the world around him?
And then, she came to him. His wife.
With her free smiles and open heart, she had made her way through into the center of his. He found that he preferred her there, where she belonged. She had made her home in his heart, and he marveled at how despite not matching up to her in any way that mattered, she had found it in herself to allow him to take shelter in hers.
It brought him shame to think of how they could have fallen in love much sooner if he had been open to her affections and not been so wrapped up in his own presumed fallacies. But with time, he learned that in a world where marriages remained cold until the bitter end, a late bloom of happiness was a gift that he should learn to treasure.
It is a girl. Do not ask me why I believe so, husband. I simply do, she had said.
The tomes say a bigger belly is indicative of a boy. I read it, he had countered then.
He stood corrected. Aemond would tell the entire realm that his worldly knowledge did not stand a chance against his wifeâs intuitionâ the little girl he held in his arms was enough support for his claim.Â
She slept soundly in his arms as he sat in his chair by the hearth. His wife, tired from her taxing labors, had taken to sleeping through most of the last three days, and he had not left his daughterâs side, not once.
He held her head as his mother carried her for the very first time, eyes shining in joy as she thanked them both for making her a grandmother once more. There were very few things that gave Alicent Hightower joy, and watching her children have babes of their own was one of them.
He rested the tip of his fingers over her smooth and frail silver hair as his grandfather took a good look at her, allowing himself a moment with his guard down. Aemond had not seen his grandfather look at anyone with such reverence, not unless it was Helaena, Jaehaera or his own mother. And now, Aemond suspected that his grandfather, for all his cold demeanor, did have a soft corner in his heart for the women of his life.
He had towered over the crib as the twins took turns gawking at her, after spending hours begging to see their new cousin. Aemond brought them after they promised to not make too much noiseâ both mother and daughter were fast asleep. Jaehaera had asked him if she could braid her hair when she grew some, and Jaehaerys poked at the new babe's nose (her mother's nose) with his thumb in curiosity. Aemond laughed, for he was intrigued by her tooâ only, it was better contained.
He held her tightly to his chest with his hand over her head as Aegon came to meet his newborn nieceâ completely sober and bathed, upon Aemondâs threats of murder if he came anywhere near his babe with his foulness. He smiled as he dropped the little dragon toy in her crib, looking over at the exhausted mother who could barely keep her eyes open. Aemondâs one eye followed his brotherâs then, and visibly softened at the sight of his wife. Aegon laughed and quipped, âI never thought Iâd say this brother, but I suppose you do wear the lovestruck look well.â
He had rocked her in silence as Helaena cooed at her, elated at the thought of becoming an aunt to a niece. This family is in dire need of more women, she had mumbled absentmindedly once. âSheâs beautiful,â she whispered and Aemond enthusiastically agreed.Â
She is beautiful, and she is his. His own daughter, given to him by his own wife.
In the nights, when he was left alone with the women around whom his entire world now revolved, Aemond let tranquility take him. And it was in moments like these, that he learned to love them both with all that he hadâ blindly, and unconditionally.Â
It was in moments like these, that he learned to believe.
Flowers have come to Aemond in multiple shapes and forms throughout his marriage, and the sixth flower that she gave to him, came to him in the form of his little daughter. A little flower, from his flower.
The flowers kept coming to him throughout the many years that followed, and he valued every one of themâ for they had all come from her, and they were all a part of her.
His flower. His wife. His very own.
pretty babies â gojo satoru x f!reader
a/n: idk about yall but I love me some drunk gojo
satoru never drinks, but when he does, ohoho, youâre in for quite the ride.
today was one of the days when he was less of a chaotic handful but more of an emotional mess who apparently canât even remember his own wife. you sip on your drink, ignoring the drunk satoru leaning on the bar.
he slurs his words as he tries to flirt, âyouâre sooo pretty, yâknow that?â
you nod with a hum and give him no further reaction. in situations like these, you figured out that letting him go all out until he is tired and sleepy is the best solution. it really is like treating a baby.
thankfully, after many years of being in the presence of one gojo satoru, youâve built up some patience.
he rests his head on the counter and he looks up at you, eyes wide and in awe, âI bet,â he hiccups and it is followed by a silly little giggle, âweâd make superrrr cute babies! like all round and chubby and weâd much on their cheeks likeâŚmochi! yes! mochiâŚnow I am hungry.â
a smirk makes an appearance on your face as you glance at satoru who is blabbering about building a family with you and spoiling you rotten.
a little teasing wonât harm anyone. so you quip, âyou know,â and his attention is already on you, âyou already gave me three super cute babies.â
his mouth is wide open in disbelief as he sits up, âno way!â
âyup! and theyâre waiting at home for us.â
his eyes crinkle because of his wide grin, âreally?!â he pulls you into a bone-crushing hug, âyou got photos?! please tell me that you do!â and he switches to a pout so quickly, it gives you whiplash.
however, you gladly pull out your phone and show him the multitude of photos you have.
ones ranging from him being in a crib to help the youngest one sleep to ones with two of the three kids ganging up on him and him desperately calling for your help. satoru goes through every single photo, head on your shoulder and cheek squished.
he is silent throughout it all and when he is done, he looks up at you, âso that means that youâre my wife?â
you nod and your fingers, naturally, find their place on his head. he feels a little shiver of satisfaction before he smiles, one lovesick and silly smile, âI really hit the jackpot.â
you laugh, pressing a kiss to the top of his head, âI guess you did.â
so you take him back home where the kids are already asleep. satoru crashes on the bed right away, steady breaths filling the room. slowly, you take your place beside him and you feel his arms wrap around you.
he pulls you closer and buries his face in your hair. and you close your eyes, letting yourself be lulled to the land of dreams.
when you do wake up, youâre greeted by satoru literally on top of you and deep in sleep. you would like to let him sleep more especially since he looks so comfortable, but youâre going to suffocate at this rate. so you pat his back lightly, âsatoru, honey, wake up.â
he groans and buries his face in the crook of your neck, grumbling something along the lines of âfive more minutesâ.
not budging? then fine, you decide. you take as deep of a breath as you can then call for your kids, âwho will help mama?!â
itâs quiet and you can feel satoru smirking against your skin. it looks like he won, but then a bunch of footsteps are heard and itâs your turn to smirk.
your husband lifts his head to glare at youâof course, not without sporting one of his famous pouts.
the door is then slammed open and your eldest son is there, âWHO DARES HURT OUR MAMA?!â
he gasps, very dramatically like a certain someone, and points at his dad, âPAPA?! youâre suffocating mama!â
âagain?!â your daughter pops up from behind her brother, staring at her dad in disbelief.
they both stand beside your bed glaring at him and he glares back, the three of them forgetting why you called for your kids in the first place. so you do them a favor and remind them, âsatoruâŚI AM GOING TO DIE LIKE THIS!â
satoru is pulled back by his shirt and your kids take turns inâtryingâto beat him up. you get up, greedily breathing air till youâre satisfied. you ignore the screams of your husband until youâre done with your morning routine.
luckily enough, when you got out of the bathroom, you found no one except your husband.
laying on the ground.
presumably dead.
with a bunch of drawings on his face and his hair contained with multiple hair bands.
you snap a picture of him very quickly then you sit on the ground next to his corpse. you poke his butt and he groans, making you giggle, âwhat happened to the strongest sorcerer?â
he turns towards you with a small frown, âhis pretty wife didnât kiss him good morning so he had no energy to fight,â his head snaps towards the two tiny figures giggling behind the door, âthese monsters.â
they squeal and run away once again before he catches them.
you gently take the hair bands off, âyouâre lucky that our youngest devil is still asleep,â you then smooth down his hair and pat his head, âI love the smiley faces on your cheeks.â
he whines and rests his head on your shoulder, âstop bullying me!â
you hum and stroke his hair, âyou know, you did something pretty cute yesterday.â
âI am always cute; whatâre you talking about?â
âyou flirted with me, your wife, and said we would make âsuper cute!â babies,â you reveal and satoru seems unbothered. in fact, he seems proud and very happy with himself so you continue, âso I had to remind you of our three little devils and then I showed you pictures.â
he stands up, posing all confidently, âwhat can I say? I excel at everything even being cuteââ
âthen you cried like a little baby when I showed you my picture post labor and kept apologizing.â
Of Tiny Tots, Mistaken Identities, and Reunions
Seventeen year old Damian Wayne is dragged to a business deal outside of Gotham (along with his father and Drake), mostly to keep up appearances that the family does work outside of Gotham, networking, and because Damian does need to learn the ropes of the company, he decides to head outside the meeting with the Manson family to get a breather (mainly cause the Manson's were annoying him fully, it was like they were trying to suck up towards Damian and trying to push their daughter on him but at the same time he caught them almost insulting and hostile towards him before they would stop and correct themselves) when out of the blue a three year old toddler with black hair comes running over with a cheerful "Daddy!" and latches onto his leg.
Damian is stunned in place but feels frozen when he hears a voice, older and almost identical to his own but he can detect a familiarity in it, a voice he only hears in his dreams nowadays say.
"Ellie, no! That's not me Starlight! I'm so sorry dude-"
When Damian turned his head towards the voice he's meet with an near identical face, granted there were some minor differences, but very, very familiar pair of striking blue eyes staring at him. Eyes that were somehow full of life, which shouldn't be possible because the last time he saw those eyes they had been dim and milked over years ago. The speaker had become startled at the his sudden turn and the words that he had been saying had quickly died out when he too took in Damian's features.
"D...Damian?..." the name came out so soft and small that Damian almost didn't hear it but he did.
And before Damian could stop himself, he spoke a name he hadn't dared utter in years.
"Danyal."
His twin looked like he had just seen a ghost, and Damian was sure he looked the same. And given the last time they had last saw each other it was no wonder they both looked like death warmed over them for a moment.
After all... Damian had failed to protect his brother, Danyal al Ghul all those years ago on a botched mission.
His bother who... wasn't dead.
His brother who was looking like he wanted to run but was keeping himself rooted in his spot.
His brother whose eyes were glancing downwards and seemed so nervous.
His brother who knew the little girl, Ellie, still hugging his legs.
His brother who had... responded and corrected her mix up when she had called Damian 'Daddy.'
And oh, she's looking up at him and making grabby hands wanting to be picked up and she has Danyal's eyes and his nose and-
Oh... Damian.... Damian's an uncle it seems.
Anthony was someone who hated routine. After all, as much as he was devoted to the day to day duties that came with being the head of his family, if he had his way he would escape the city and the ton, choosing instead the peace and tranquility offered by the countryside, at Aubrey Hall. He dreamed of being able to be just a brother, son and - as of recently - a husband.Â
Only married a few months, your new husband was keen to seize each and every opportunity to escape his duties when they appeared - whether it was sneaking off for long rides in the countryside, or making an early exit from whatever social gathering you both had been forced to attend as the new Viscount and Viscountess Bridgerton; Whatever allowed you both to be alone and back in one anotherâs arms (usually sans clothes) as soon as possible, was a good idea to him.Â
It was no surprise then, that there was one part of his daily routine that Anthony actually relished: bathing.Â
Oh, yes. There was little more in the world that could bring your fully-grown husband such child-like joy as being able to soak in a tub of steaming hot water for an hour or two. The sight always made you smile as you entered your bedroom: Anthony, half asleep, looking as if the stress had physically melted away.Â
It was your favourite sight - and not just because of the exquisite view it granted you of his sculpted form - but because of how calm and peaceful he looked. It was as if he had transformed back into the mischievous and carefree boy youâd first fallen in love with all those years ago. Back when your only concerns had been not tripping on your skirt at your presentation, making sure you were actually asked to dance at a ball, and surviving the social season without embarrassing your family or getting yourself roped into some scandal.Â
Whilst you knew neither you nor Anthony would ever change a single thing about your life together, you knew it came with a cost. In fact, today it had been enduring hours of talks with local tenants, the familyâs book keeper, estate managers, and even several possible suitors looking to secure some kind of marriage contract with one of his younger sisters. (Youâd been informed by several members of the household staff that those meetings had been remarkably swift, however, with each unfortunate man looking rather dejected as they were shown from the house).Â
If youâd been able to spare him the pain or share his burden you would have, but unfortunately youâd been occupied with matters of your own. Being the lady of such a grand estate came with duties of its own, and you were quite done looking over seating arrangements, replying to correspondence, and paying social calls for one day. Â
Still, at least youâd both survived to tell the tale - no wonder Anthony looked half asleep. Then again, maybe it had something to do with the open bottle of whiskey that sat on the table beside the tub. You knew without looking at the label which bottle it was, having smuggled it out of the library yourself to enjoy together.Â
âAnthony Bridgerton!â A fake gasp of horror escaped your lips as you appeared in the doorway, a hand pressed to your chest. âYou are a sneak and a traitor. That whiskey was for me too, you know.â
âAnd a good evening to you too, my love. Never fear, thereâs plenty to share,â he teased, head relaxed, tipped backward as he took a sip from the glass in his hand. Your eyes were transfixed on the hollow of his throat, watching his Adamâs apple bob as he swallowed. âBesides, I would apologise but I simply couldnât wait a minute longer. Not when I couldnât feel my back from sitting at that desk all afternoon.â
The moan that escaped his lips was almost sinful as he sank a little lower in the water. Â
âWell, youâre forgiven. You look far too content for me to even dream of being mad,â you sighed, drawing close and perching on the rim of the tub. Anthony handed over the whiskey glass with a soft smile, letting you take a sip of your own before you placed it back onto the table.Â
You could feel the warmth seep into your bones immediately, even if that was also likely in part to your proximity to the tub and your naked husband.Â
âDo you want me to wash your hair?â
Anthonyâs eyebrows rose at the question, the surprise written across his face. âWhat?â
âYou heard me,â you teased, reaching up to run your fingers through the soft strands of hair atop his head. âI can wash your hair, and get your back for you. Unless youâd rather do it yourself, or I can ring for someone?â
âWhat? No, thatâs uh, thatâs not necessary,â he chuckled, visibly flustered - which was amusing and perplexing. After all, it wasnât as if you two hadnât seen and touched every single inch of the other in the weeks since your wedding. However, he looked almost confused at the idea that you would offer such a thing. âYou donât have to do that.â
âBut I want to,â you soothed. âLet me take care of you, for once. Husband.â
It was probably below the belt to purr his title like that, but you knew how that one little word had the power to reduce the great Viscount Bridgerton to a puddle. That, along with the warmth of the water and the buzz of the whiskey, made him almost pliant to your every whim. Still, you knew him well enough to recognise the lingering hesitation in his eyes as he nodded in agreement.Â
He very rarely let his guard down or allowed anyone to assist him in any way. You sometimes believed that had the servants not been dependant upon their work to make a living that Anthony would have dismissed them long ago and tried to run the entire estate single handedly just to prove he could. That he was worthy of the title he bore, and that he was every bit as great a man, brother, and husband as his father.Â
It appeared he was the same way when it came to letting himself be taken care of and it made your heart ache for the man you loved.Â
Pressing a triumphant kiss to his lips, you swiftly manoeuvred yourself, pulling up a stool and grabbing a jug from the dresser. Â
âJust relax⌠trust me,â you murmured, waiting until he did as he was bid. The gesture alone said volumes, more so than any words ever could.Â
Waiting until his eyes were shut, you reached for the soap, tilting his head against your chest as you began to massage the mixture into his scalp. Yet again, your husband seemed to transform into a cat, purring with every touch in a way that made it suddenly very difficult to resist the urge to strip off and join your husband in the water instead.Â
âEnjoying yourself?â You giggled as Anthony barely managed more than a groan in reply.Â
It was taking every ounce of your self control to focus your attentions solely on Anthony, and not on the way his body seemed to be reacting to your ministrations. Thankfully, you were able to last long enough to finish the job, using the jug to rinse the water through his hair, making sure to angle his head upwards so the water ran off him instead of into his eyes.Â
But you were only human; the minute you were done washing the last suds from his scalp you made your move. Sliding off the stool, you knelt beside him and reached out to caress his cheek, causing him to open his eyes almost sleepily. Leaning forward you planted a soft, delicate kiss to his lips, causing him to groan in response.
Without saying a word, his hands rose, twisting their way into your hair as he deepened his kiss. It was clear what he wanted next.Â
âNow, wife,â he growled, pulling back just long enough to reach down and tug teasingly at the tie of your dress-robe. You could feel the warmth of his touch as his wet body began to dampen the material. âI think itâs your turn to let me take care of you⌠so youâd better get in here, before I drag you in here.â
Baby bird, angel,,,,,,what else we got?
masterlist !
reblogs and interactions are encouraged and appreciated.
to bruce, you are his precious, sometimes his treasure. he'd even unironically call you his baby in front of the press. and most of the time, if he describes you to his co-workers in the justice league who knew of your identity, he will always say "my child" with a dark undertone that you are not to available for adoption even if it was you who insists that anyone else can take you under their care, other than your actual family.
alfred, in all his years of caring for you, is very much settled into calling you his own child. although it's a given that he refers to bruce's children as a "(young) master", whenever it's just the two of you in the same room, with you needing a semblance of solace, alfred would always grasp your shoulders and comfort you with kind words and affirmations, starting his sentence with "(name), my child."
dick obviously calls you his baby bird and only he has the trademark to do so, nobody else has the privilege and not even your other siblings. he's obviously overbearing, chirping out that nickname in an irritingly higher octave whenever he gets some sort of cuteness overload just by squishing your cheeks. one way to know if dick is in the same room as them is if you hear a man squeal your nickname.
babs, in addition to dick, probably calls you birdy or something cheesy like her little hatchling. you have no idea where she gets those nicknames but she's better in so many levels compared to the eldest because she doesn't often call you those, not unless she's in a really good mood. though you should be scared if she ever calls you by your full, government name; one where wayne is the surname and not your mother's.
jason calls you his angel because unlike his other siblings, you're the only one who has never wielded a weapon against anyone (and if you ever do, he'd pretend like that never happened, excusing your actions for self defense or something else). like a buy-one-take-one package, he always ruffles your hair whenever he refers you that nickname. there's times, though, where he says it in a possessive tone, daring criminals that if they try to even touch a single centimeter of your skin then they'd better pray that his angel has enough mercy to not prosecute him for whatever comes next.
tim doesn't really call you any nicknames, and you're so grateful for that. but what he does have of you are multiple logs of all the times you call him his name or a nickname, deluding himself into thinking you'll always say his name with such a fond voice and a huge smile. and it doesn't take a genius to find out just how easy he folds if you ask him for a favor with a sweet tone, calling him 'timmie' or something cringier. but hey, as long as it gets you what you want.
damian isn't the type to settle for nicknames, but he's the one that often refers to you as "my older sibling", "my blood sibling" and every other term that refers to you as his. he's very much like bruce in the regard that even if he has to share with his siblings, you will always, and always be damian's beloved older sibling. there's times, though, that he would secretly dream of a day where you would be comfortable enough to call him your baby brother.
steph and duke are the most normal ones when it comes to calling you a nickname, resorting to calling you their bro or sis. but sometimes steph loves to tease you by calling you the nicknames babs gives you, to the point that it's now steph who calls you her hatchling in a sing-song voice, and it'd be duke who'll eventually create a tune for your own nickname. the entire melody would then be an established hum for the entire manor and it takes you all your sanity and alfred cooking your favorite dish to not strangle the living hell out of those two.
cass also is another case of your sibling not having any nicknames for you, but she does associate you with the word love, someone who she should protect with all her heart and you'll find her one day calling you that nickname. the longer she becomes closer with you, the more she's bound to call you her beloved sibling, too, just like how bruce calls you his beloved child. and if it's not your name that she tries to call, it would instead be the tune that duke invented.
All My Dreaming
Summary: You came to the Night Court as a fugitive and quickly became a valued member of the Inner Circle. Azrielâs love for you has burned brightly in his chest for nearly two centuries now, but when an unknown force threatens to take you from him, he must fight to keep you at his side.
Pairing: Azriel x Winter Court!Reader
A/N: I donât use Y/N here just out of personal preference, but the IC do call reader âLittle Oneâ because sheâs younger than them by like a century or so. Also, slight timeline deviation? I kind of just made the ACOTAR timeline work for me a little bit but the important bits are there mostly. If itâs not totally accurate, please suspend your disbelief and go with it. I also took some serious liberties with Prythian geography and Azrielâs shadows in this. I had to force myself to stop because I couldâve written five more scenes, so let me know if you all want a part two. I got nasty Azriel thots to spare, baby!Â
WC: 16.1k ¯\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
TW: 18+, Minors DNI, violence, death, descriptive gore, lots of time jumps, torture, smut, p in v, fingering, porn with plot, mating, slow burn, angst, friends to lovers, declarations of love, loving sexy times, miscommunications abound, Azriel being a big ole softie, Azriel being a big ole bitch to bad men, Azriel really going tf thru it emotionally, and Azriel being mouthy as fuck. Just girly things.Â
Part 2
Azriel hadnât seen you in four days. Nearly a week had passed since youâd left. Rhys mentioned a mission but no additional details, Cassian avoided the topic, knowing how frustrated his brother got when you were gone, and Feyre was decidedly unhelpful the few times heâd brought you up. His shadows searched aimlessly, theyâd found nothing as far south as Winter Court, daring not venture into Autumn, and knowing damn well youâd never step foot into Spring. You were slowly driving him mad; the bond in his chest aching at the loss. Even if you hadnât recognized the golden thread linking the two of you, he felt it.Â
Gods, did he feel it. Heâd often lay in his bed at night, eyes tracing the intricate foil patterns of the ceiling tiles. When sleep evaded him, as it frequently did, heâd grasp the thread tightly in his minds eye and tug it experimentally, begging you to see, to notice it was him that loved you with a ferocity that rivaled the sun. Try as he might, the responding tug never answered, his call into the void not returning an echo.Â
The second it snapped for him, Azriel had resolved himself as unworthy, not of someone like you. You were powerful, breathtakingly beautiful, intimidatingly intelligent, and you regularly brought men to their knees, both in political circles and on the battlefield. Rhys relied on you as much he did Cassian and Az, you were a core member of his court, a valuable asset, and the love of Azrielâs life. Azriel avoided the latter subject entirely, choosing instead to silently stoke the ember in chest with unyielding affection; his own private paramour.Â
When youâd joined the Night Court, youâd been on the run from both Winter and Autumn Courts. Your father was a high fae noble in Winter that had attempted to arrange a marriage to the second youngest Vanserra of Autumn. The familyâs brutal reputation was legend and you were terrified. You were young then, barely a century old, and upon your introductory visit to the Autumn Court, Beron sought to make an impression by presenting a welcome gift. That gift? The public torture and execution of a servant heâd deemed traitorous.Â
His gleaming eyes remained on yours with each cast of the fire whip heâd conjured using his cruel magic. Heâd cracked it again and again until blood splattered and the servant was left flayed beyond recognition, flesh searing, and finger tips twitching from the remaining neurons firing in his brain. Only after his death did Beron announce his crimes. Heâd stolen a parcel of food from the royal pantry to feed his wife and small child. Your stomach churned at the thought of the now widow and fatherless child waiting at home for the male that would never return.Â
It had all been a test to see if you were worthy of the most violent and petulant of the broody sons, and youâd passed, holding Beronâs stare and keeping your back straight as you faced his wrath head on. Youâd cried yourself dry in your room that night though, sobs wracking your form until your chest ached, grief for the male that was lost. Fear settled into your heart, terror of the family you were set to marry into.Â
Youâd ran at first light, leaving with nothing but the clothes on your back. Your Winter white blonde hair streaking across the red and orange forest as you bolted. Beron sent his dogs after you. You still had the scars lining your calves from where theyâd gotten too close, brought you down into the dirt, jaws snapping and tearing at the muscly sinew there. But youâd fought. Youâd kicked and clawed like a feral child of the woods, screaming with a sense of self preservation youâd never known you possessed.Â
Rhysand had found you half dead, starving and a little savage in the mountainous border between the Day and Night Courts. Heâd made a bargain with you then; heâd save you, if you worked for him. Word had already spread of the ousted Winter female and spurned Autumn princeling and Rhysand was impressed youâd lasted in the wilds undetected for so long. The small star flecked tattoo of the Velarian night sky that lived on your wrist since was the only evidence of his deal.Â
Youâd long moved past such a bargain. Rhys had offered to lift it half a dozen times in your first hundred years within his court, but you hadnât minded. A reminder, youâd insisted, a mark of your loyalty to the family that didnât lead you the wolves with such glee.Â
Youâd settled into a routine in Velaris, training with the Illyrian brothers and charming Amren with your intelligence and wit. But youâd become the closest with Mor, who felt a kinship in your shared traumas. Sheâd soothed you in those first years, fiercely protecting her friend when Eris Vanserra had shown up in Hewn City as an emissary to inquire on your new position in the Night Court. It was that same night that Azriel realized how fucked he truly was.
Eris smirked at you and your back straightened, face growing cold. He spoke, âMy brother was wondering where youâd scampered off to.â A laugh followed, âYou couldnât stomach our court, but found yourself bound to the Court of Nightmares? My my, what a wicked turn of events.âÂ
Rhysand had spoken then, wearing his High Lord mask well, âWatch yourself, Eris. You know not what our Little One can do.â Eris laughed, the sound laced with the dark spark of a threat. âLittle One? Fugitive and Night Court whore, I must tell your father. Iâm sure heâll be proud to hear of his daughterâs fate.â Azrielâs wings pricked, then fluttered, he wouldâve killed Eris right then for you. Your hand came to rest on Rhysâ arm as you stepped around the throne to level your accuser with a look that shouldâve turned him to stone.Â
âI am no maleâs whore and I belong to no court except Night. Report what you wish to my father, to your father, your brother. May you all rot.â Youâd spat at his feet then, and the room heated twenty degrees, Erisâ barely kept rage simmering under the surface, fire blooming on the fringes of his figure.Â
He stepped forward and Cassian, Azriel, and Mor all shifted, prepared to take out the threat. Erisâ eyes tracked their figures, gauging the situation. He knew better. Any attack here would mean war on his court and his father have his hide for that. You stepped forward to meet him, knowing he could make no move without endangering his position. You kept your spine straight and narrowed your gaze at him with such contempt he wouldâve been impressed at the show had you been anyone else.Â
âI will say this once Eris Vanserra,â you held up one long manicured finger, and Azriel traced the action with thinly veiled obsession. âLeave my court or I will be the one to kill you. Iâll rip your spine from your body and Iâll do it with the same glee in which your father,â youâd spat that word, the hatred you held for Beron burning your throat as the words exited your mouth, âkilled that male for feeding his family.â You took a step closer, summoning a dagger in your left hand, and rolling it your palm. âTrust that we have no tolerance for your family or your bullshit in these lands.âÂ
Eris had good enough sense to step back then, peering around your form to where Rhysand sat, legs spread, slouched in the throne, smirking at your display of dominance. Azriel to his right looked on in pure male satisfaction, you were a powerful little thing and he was rather fond of you in that moment. Eris spoke up, âShould I note that the Night Court threatens other Courts for sport?â Cassian and Azriel rolled their eyes in synchronous fashion, but it was Mor that spoke with the dark edge of a threat, âOnly ones that deserve such brutality.â Her father, Kier, stood in the gathered crowd and sneered at the tone of her voice.
Youâd done the unthinkable then, winnowing behind Eris, grasping the male by his red hair and dragging the dagger to his neck, digging in enough to cause the maleâs heart to speed, a line of scarlet leaking from the press of your blade. You could feel the heat in his skin, the flame licked at your hand as you released him with a shove.Â
You brandished your dagger as if it was an extension of your hand, the tip of the silver blade glinting with red from the now healing cut at Erisâ throat. âCome for me again and Iâll kill you.â It was then that Azriel noted the slight tremble in the hand at your right side and he wished on some distant star that he could reach out to you, soothe you, tell you that he was proud and you defended yourself and your court beautifully.Â
As if his wish was granted, he felt his chest give way to a canyon of emotion, heart stuttering as the bond fluttered and snapped, thrumming with affection for the female standing at the center of the room. He had selfishly allowed himself to hope it would be you, in the dark of the night when he was alone and his shadows whispered to him of your whereabouts. Since heâd met you, he fostered that small romantic notion of soulmates. His most private desire.Â
Eris whirled on you with a roar, grabbing your throat with hands of fire. Azriel felt the breath leave him, and he took two then three steps forward before he could think, hazel eyes alight with a fierceness youâd not yet witnessed. Your eyes found his and you held up your hand to halt his movements, the one that had trembled seconds earlier, now steady as a stone. Youâd looked at Eris then, raising your chin defiantly, a slow smile overtaking your face as you once again spit at the Autumn male before winnowing back to your place in front of the dais. Rhysand raised to his feet then, taking steps down to meet you. His hand grazed your arm this time and his mind reached out, âVery good, Little One, very good.âÂ
âAs the lady said, Eris, come to my court in search of her again, and sheâll be the one to kill you.â Rhys circled Eris, tracking like prey. âBut not before I sanction it for laying your hands on a member of my house.â Rhysand spoke with such quiet cunning, it was no wonder he excelled as High Lord. Eris snarled then before winnowing out of the Hewn City and Azriel quickly set his shadows to following him, ensuring he was actually gone.Â
You returned to Morâs side and the shameless pride that set on your face the rest of the night made Azriel want to kiss you. Gods, he was fucked..Â
Youâd flirted with him constantly in the first century youâd been in Velaris. You had laid it on thick too, dragging a long nail up his arm, your mouth sliding into a smirk after one too many drinks at Ritaâs. Azriel had always feigned friendly indifference though, a mask he slipped on that was equal parts protection as it was self soothing. His only crack coming in the form of a slight tremble in his pinky as he tried to gather himself to avoid closing the space between you, touching, grasping, feeling.
Heâd worn black leather gloves around you in your first few decades with them. His hands always held the most insecurity for him, the silver scars and warped skin a brutal reminder of his childhood. It was after training one day, as you all packed your small bags and threw towels into bins that youâd asked about it.Â
âI donât mean to pry, and feel free to tell me to fuck off, but why the gloves?â You asked quietly leaning against a wall less than ten feet from him. Heâd stiffened and breathed tightly, âit helps with the work.â That had always been his excuse, wearing gloves when killing helped reduce the touch memories associated with the act, and it was partially true. But he wasnât on a mission right now, and you called him on that, âare you spying right now?â Your lips quirked, âshould I tell Rhys?â Your words were mirthful, but your eyes held nothing but empathy for the Shadowsinger, sometimes Azriel wondered if that was your Cauldron blessed gift.Â
Youâd reached down then, rolling up the left leg of your training leathers. Youâd resumed your full height and rotated your calf outward for his eyes to survey the damage there. Ragged silver keloid scars marked the skin from your ankle to the soft back of your kneeâ a knee heâd admittedly fantasized about many nights in a row now. Heâd selfishly thought about trailing kisses up your leg, pausing to nip playfully at the soft skin at your knee as he made his way north, up your thigh. He breathed deeply banishing those thoughts as he took in the site of your marred skin. Judging by the heavily keratinized markings, the injury had no doubt been painful when incurred originally. Azrielâs fingers twitched again, wanting to touch your face, hold you as he kissed away your grief.Â
âFrom Beronâs dogs,â you breathed, rolling you shoulders, as if shaking the memory from your mind. âThey wouldnât heal when I was out there,â you clicked your tongue, âgranted I was starving,â you sighed, âbut thatâs a story for another day.â You looked at him then, and he had to steady himself at the emotions pooling in your eyes.Â
Heâd already planned on killing Beron if the opportunity presented for what had happened with Mor, but for you, heâd make it hurt. Heâd drag it out and make it slow. Heâd torture him for days, flaying skin from bone, taking fingers then limbs and when at last he begged for death, Azriel would set the dogs on him and laugh as they tore him apart. He felt a long repressed need for vengeance creep up his spine, and he hated to acknowledge what its presence meant in regards to you.
âItâs okay, you know,â youâd said, head lolling to the side as you watched him, eyes swimming with a gentle affection, âIâll never judge you for something like that.â Azriel squeezed his eyes shut as he turned his head from you and breathed in tightly. How did always manage to be so fucking disarming and vulnerable? That mustâve been a gift too.
He pinched the middle finger of the right glove and pulled it from his hand, grasping his now exposed fingers into a fist, knuckles cracking. He extended that arm out, palm up as he let you view his deepest insecurity, the thing he hated most in his appearance.Â
Youâd stepped forward, looking at his palm. Your hands went to reach but youâd paused, looking to his eyes as you silently asked permission to touch. He nodded stiffly, watching you with the same intensity of an animal being hunted, prey ready to bolt at any moment.Â
Your fingers touched his hand, and he felt the connection race up his arm and to his chest, settling in his heart. Your eyes studied, and you rotated his hand, fingers gently tracing from his wrist, to knuckle, to fingernail in reverence. You covered his hand with your own, moving your eyes to his hazel ones. âAre they dead?â Youâd asked seriously, and he stuttered a shocked laugh. âYes, Little One, they are,â he answered, a small smile playing at his mouth. The two of you far too similar it seemed. âGood,â youâd said simply before kissing his knuckles and pulling the glove back on for him. The action was quietly intimate, and Azriel shouldâve kissed you then. Mother knows he considered it, eyes watching you with rapt attention as his heart sped up and breathing shallowed.Â
âIf you two are done flirting, lunch is ready,â Cassian announced from the doorway, breaking the spell you were both under. Youâd jumped and laughed freely at the large male smirking at the entrance. You grasped Azrielâs hand tightly in affection before releasing it to turn on your heel to exit the room, passing by Cass with an eye roll, thumping him square in the chest.
Cassian looked to his brother as he walked into the room and his face split into a shit eating grin. âLetâs go, loverboy,â he said, crossing his arms over his chest. Azriel glared, scoffing as he followed behind you, praying to whatever Gods were listening that heâd get you alone again soon.Â
In your second century with the Night Court, youâd lessened the blatant flirting and settled into loving, easy friendship. You regularly attended balls and galas in Hewn City, fitting into such pomp with practiced ease, but always with a dagger strapped to your thigh, ready to cut a male down in seconds. Those events were almost routine at this point: Azriel would save you a dance, and youâd move together in a slow ritual that youâd both perfected over the years, heâd bow as the violinist played their final note and resume his place on dais at Rhysâ right. His eyes would follow you the rest of the night, as you spoke in an airy manner to various high fae, glaring at any male whose hands ventured too close to his mate.Â
Nights when the Court held parties at the House of Wind were different though. You were far less rigid, finding it easy to exist without scrutiny. Those were the nights Azrielâs eyes rarely left your form as he watched obsessively from the corners of the room.Â
âYouâre staring,â Rhys chimed from his place next to Azriel, eyes not leaving the crowd as he spoke to the Shadowsinger, mouth smirking. Azriel was staring. Youâd worn cobalt blue tonight, a lovely color on your skin. His color on your skin. Mother above, the male possessiveness that crawled up his spine was unreal. Mate, mate, mate, his shadows had sang in his ear. He wanted to pluck the eyes from every male in the room for even glancing in your direction. He wanted so much more than that too. Your breathy sighs as he marked you, your moan as he made you come undone, his name crying from your lips as he ate his come from your cunt after. Azriel had a million and one scenarios running through his head. He yearned to make each one of them come to fruition too.
He hadnât answered Rhysand, so the High Lord tried again, âyou really should tell her, but please,â Rhys closed his eyes with a grimace, âquiet your thoughts first, for Cauldronâs sake.â That got Azrielâs attention, his back straightening and mental shield slamming down. His eyes squeezed shut, almost as if he was in pain. âI cannot burden her with that now,â he said, ânot with war at our doorstep.â Indeed, the second war with Hybern creeped ever closer, disappearances of other high fae occurring daily. Whatever they were planning across the sea, it was going to bring Prythian to its knees.Â
Rhysand sighed then, feeling older than his 500 years. âBe that as it may, we should hold those we love tighter.â Rhysand looked to Feyre at that moment, his eyes meeting his mateâs, as he sent a strum of warm affection down the bond. She smiled and returned it cheerily. He turned back to Azriel, âif it all ends tomorrow, I know my love and she knows me. Thatâs all we can ask for in this immortal life.â Azriel looked back to you, and your eyes were already on him, tracing the shadows that wound around his chest. You met his eyes and winked, before turning back to Mor and laughing freely. Â
âI thank the Cauldron daily it was you that found her in those mountains, Rhys.â Azriel spoke quietly, admitting a small secret heâd not told anyone. Rhysand softened, and clapped his friend on the shoulder, âAs I am, brother.â Azriel nodded, letting the conversation die between himself and the High Lord as he drained the drink in his hand and moved down the steps in your direction.Â
Youâd been in conversation with Mor when he approached. She was telling you of the seamstress sheâd been seeing, and how happy she was. Azriel cleared his throat from behind the two of you and you turned to meet him, taking in his appearance with wide eyes. âLadies,â he started, bowing to you and Mor, who snorted at the silly formality. âAnd that note, Iâll be taking my leave. Iâve got a lady to see,â she said with a wink and a flourish of her red dress. You laughed and shook your head before turning back to the Shadowsinger. Heâd caught you staring earlier and your heart had nearly jumped into your throat, before Mor mocked you lightly, diffusing the tension.Â
âHi Az,â you greeted softly, before dropping your empty glass on a passing waiterâs tray and thanking them. Azriel watched you closely, noting the revealed skin that shifted with each movement, committing every angle and freckle to memory.
âYou want to get out of here?â He dared ask, jerking his head toward the private balcony on the House of Wind. You raised a brow, Azriel? Asking you to leave? Together? You heart was back in your throat and you thanked the Mother that youâd taken your time getting ready that evening. Nodding, you grasped his arm as he offered it to you like a proper courtier. He walked the two of you up a round of stairs and away from the eyes heâd threatened earlier in the night. Voices dulled the more space you put between yourselves and them and you couldnât help but start to sweat a bit at the thought of being alone with Azriel.Â
Youâd been friends for nearly two centuries, but youâd always felt a connection with the male. Your heart thrummed with a warm, golden affection when he got close. It made keeping a clear head during training hard. It made sitting next to him at dinner difficult. And when heâd looked at you like you hung the moon as you danced earlier in the night, it made you want to take him to bed and ride him until he moaned your name. You breathed deeply. âFocus,â you chided yourself, âhe is your friend, for Cauldronâs sake.â
He led you out onto to the balcony and stopped at the railing before looking up at the star flecked sky. âThis is my favorite part of the House,â he said eyes scanning the sky before looking back to you as you watched him. A blush crept up his neck, before he cleared his throat again.Â
âIâve always wondered what it was like to be able to fly, you know,â you said quietly, removing your hand from his arm, rolling up onto your toes, leaning against the stone railing, and looking out on Velaris before scanning your eyes up to the three stars that shone brightly overhead. âWhen I was a child, I met a Peregryn from the Dawn Court and thought she had the most beautiful wings Iâd ever seen.â You chanced a glance his way, âIâd not met an Illyrian yet.â You reminded with a smirk, bumping his arm with fondness. Gods, he was in trouble.
âI asked her what it was like and she said it was the purest sense of freedom possible.â You glanced down at your feet, âI spent the next year wishing for wings.â He mulled on your words. He wanted to say something cheesy as Cassian would, like âIâll be your wingsâ but he couldnât, so you continued on.Â
âWhen I was a little older, I witnessed a blue skinned lesser faeâs wings ripped from his body as punishment and it was the most gruesome thing Iâd seen at that point.â You took a shuddering breath, âI cried for him that night. The lost freedom. How maddening it mustâve been.â You looked at him then and he watched you with furrowed brows. âHow does it feel for you?â You asked softly, eyes tracing the shine of his wing. âMagnificent things,â you thought. You remembered seeing his wings for the first time and thinking the Peregryn had finally moved to second place in your mind.Â
Azriel had to gather himself as he spoke, âItâs⌠everything.â He said quietly adjusting his body to extend a wing. âMy ability to fly came in late,â he said, and your eyes widened, you hadnât known that. âMy childhood was⌠rough and I didnât learn to fly until I was nearly grown.â He laughed, scuffing the toe of his boot, wings folding in behind him. âIt was a lot of crash landings those first months.â You snorted, mental image of a younger Az, landing in a puddle of mud crossing your mind.Â
âI was never a proud Illyrian, not like the others,â he continued, âit was hard for me to reconcile my heritage and our traditions.â He looked to the cityscape then, âbut the stronger I got, the more I understood why flight was so crucial to my people.â He looked to you, eyes shining, âitâs the closest we can get to the stars.âÂ
You leaned over the railing again, staring wistfully at the night sky, the moon reflecting on your skin. âWill you take me someday? Flying, I mean.â Did you not know Azriel would give you the world? Of course heâd take you flying. Heâd give you the moon, the stars, walk through fire and back, anything. He nodded, âyou say the word, and Iâll fly you the the ocean and back.â The smile that broke across your face crippled him, his knees threatened to give way.Â
âYours are my favorite,â you murmured softly, eyes glancing from his wings to his face. Azriel blushed in full, pink speckling his neck and cheeks as he laughed. âDonât let Cass hear you say that, heâs got an ego,â he said, a smile remaining at his lips. You liked him like this the most. Loose, smiling, free. You reached up then, cupping his reddened cheek, thumb stroking. âI donât care,â you said smiling, âitâs the truth.â Azriel swallowed roughly, staring at your eyes swimming with an emotion he knew, but was much too stubborn and scared to name.
Just as your hand went to retreat, he grasped it between his own. âYou can touch them,â he offered, knowing damn well the implications, âif you want,â he added. Your eyes widened. Mor had mentioned once that Illyrianâs wings were âsensitive,â was the word sheâd used. It was a sign of great intimacy and trust to allow another to touch them. You felt the air shift between you two then, as you nodded.
He extended a wing toward you. This felt so much like the first time heâd shown you his hands all those years ago. Your hand crept forward and gentle fingers met the red gold membrane that stretched between two metacarpals. Your fingers traced the membrane in smooth circles, then traced up to the crest. Azriel felt his breath gutter out of his mouth in a loud, choppy exhale, and he felt himself harden at the sensation of your fingers against the most sensitive portion of his wings. You gasped and jerked away at the sudden noise, before apologizing. âSorry, I shouldnât have gotten carried away.âÂ
Azriel shook his head, âItâs not that, theyâre sensitive.â There was that word again, only it made you think of how theyâd been shredded before the King of Hybern, and you opened your mouth to apologize again, but he stopped you short. âI havenât allowed another to touch them freely since my mother.â The admission floored you, your gut giving way with a breath.
You looked to his eyes then, the air between you had shifted again and you knew this was it. This was the moment youâd waited for, he was going to kiss you. Mother, it felt youâd waited a millennia, and he felt just the same. But that kiss never came. Instead, Azriel went stock still, his eyes now on the House behind you.Â
âAzriel?â You questioned. âItâs Rhys,â he said tightly, âheâs summoning me.â You understood then. He looked to you desperately, eyes a little wild and apologetic. âIâm sorry, I have to go to him.â You nodded, you both worked for the High Lord, youâd never get in the way of Azrielâs allegiance to his Court. âOf course,â you said quietly, taking a step back and swallowing down your disappointment.Â
Azriel took three steps towards the entrance then stopped. âIâll take you,â he turned around, backing his way to the arched stone, but keeping his eyes on you for a moment longer. âWhen I get back, Iâll take you flying,â he offered. Another smile etched its way across your face and Azriel took a long moment to memorize it greedily. âItâs a date,â you said confidently. He beamed then, turning on a heel to pick up into a jog, Rhys no doubt shouting to hurry up.Â
That date hadnât happened though. The second war with Hybern broke out days later and you both barely made it out alive.Â
When Feyre had come to Velaris after Amaranthaâs defeat, youâd accepted her with easy friendship. You saw Rhysand, your longtime friend, overcome with love for his newly found mate, and you couldnât help but love her as well. Youâd shared your story with her and the two of you bonded deeply over her art. Sheâd offered to teach you to paint, and you began taking lessons in your off time. Rhys had been Cauldron blessed with her and you reminded him daily.Â
Later, when Feyreâs sisters joined their little unit, youâd been the first one to break Nestaâs tough exterior. The female saw parts of herself in you and youâd gotten her to crack a smile when you mocked Rhysâ High Lord voice at dinner one night. Elain had been a tougher sell, but youâd tried, along with Azriel, to bring the female out of her shell. The day she joined you in the library to read, you knew progress had been made, even if you two had only sat in silence a few feet apart, a small smile gracing her features.Â
You left her book recommendations with small notes and she began to do the same. Your friendship playing out in the margins of the libraryâs tomes. You won her over with silent conversation. Nesta noticed, of course, and she looked to you with gratitude as she saw her sisterâs eyes brightened and skin began to return to its normal, healthy color. The night Azriel mentioned it as you walked down the hall toward the dining room for the family meal, youâd shrugged. âI met her where she needed me to,â youâd said quietly, glancing to your feet. Azriel smiled, a Cauldron blessed gift indeed.Â
Dinners at the House of Wind were by far Azrielâs favorite version of you. Youâd laugh with abandon, smile splitting your face, showing every tooth as Mor cracked a joke and leaned against you for support, one too many drinks in her system. The first time heâd seen that smile, it blinded him, and heâd gone a little dazed, staring at you in wonderment. Rhys had interrupted his train of thought with an invasive insertion of âHow quickly she reduced you to a puddle, brother.â Azriel had scowled at Rhys then, mental shields firming up, but not before he heard the distinct sound of his High Lord laughing at the Spymasterâs defensiveness.Â
Indeed Azriel was gone for you. When Cassian finally confronted him last year about the truth of his feelings, Azriel saw no point to avoid it any longer, not after his brothers had also found their mates. âOur souls are one in the same, sheâs my mate,â heâd said pensively, as if he was letting his deepest secret breath in the light for the first time in centuries. Maybe he was. Heâd made Cassian promise on his life not to tell anyone, and despite being the biggest gossip in the Inner Circle, he kept his promise. He was thrilled for his brother, knowing you were the perfect match.
Little did Azriel know, everyone else was already more than aware of his affections. Amren had figured it out a century prior when Azriel had tended your needs as youâd recovered from an injury sustained during a mission. Heâd fretted around you like a mother hen, buying you flowers, sweets, and books while you were bedridden. The female had watched and hummed with a raised eyebrow as Azriel exited your room for the fifth time in one day, wringing his hands with worry despite Madjaâs clean bill of health.
Feyre had figured it out the same year sheâd returned from the Spring Court, just before the second war with Hybern. Sheâd seen the way his eyes had followed you in the war room Rhys had created to host strategy meetings. Saw him lean towards you when you spoke, saw his wings flutter when you finally cast your gaze to him, eager for your attention. More than anything, sheâd seen his shadows, desperate little things, sneaking across the floor each night, sidling up your ankles and wrists, begging for your affection. You always laughed and nuzzled them as the wound their way to your hair and Azriel went a little soft at the sight.Â
When she told Mor, the blonde had laughed, âTheyâve been circling each for two hundred years now, eventually one of them will cave.â Mor leveled a sardonic look at Feyre then, âand when they do, weâll all have to relocate to the River House for a year lest we be subject to the frenzy.â
This mission shouldâve been simple. Rhys had asked you to check out reports of rogue soldiers spotted making their way towards the border of the Night Court from the Day coastline. The intel heâd received had mentioned three to four maximum, all of them drunken ex-Hybern loyalists. It shouldâve been a matter of locating them, spying for a day or two, then winnowing in to neutralize any threat. Gods, this was far from simple.Â
When youâd arrived in the region, the hairs on your neck rose, the air itself feeling off. As you tracked them, youâd noticed intentional attempts to throw you off course. A carelessly trashed map, crudely laid tracks in the opposite direction, Dawn Court wine bottles that had been emptied and tossed about. They knew you were there, and you quickly realized that a trap had been laid. You backed off them then, staying further than youâd have liked, but trying like hell to make them think youâd given up.Â
On your fourth night following them, youâd drifted away to an inn two towns over, desperately seeking a place to bathe and rest, even for a few hours. As you bathed, you felt watched in a way that discomfited you to your core, and your dagger stayed within arms reach the rest of the night. Suddenly, the role youâd played for the last two hundred years had left you entirely ill equipped for whatever was happening here.Â
Youâd left out before dawn, refusing to lose an ounce of daylight, but as you hit the tree line, readying yourself to winnow out, youâd noticed it. Hanging from a tree, a hundred yards away was a piece of clothing, your clothing. Clothing that shouldâve been in the pack at your back. Your breath shuttered out of you as you opened your mind to Rhys, asking for back up. You were in over your head and you knew when to admit it. There was no pride in getting yourself killed.Â
As you turned to move back to the inn where you could wait out contact from Rhys in a public location, you were met with a pair of shining blue eyes. You stepped back, keeping your grounding, readying for a fight. âYouâve been following us,â the stranger said calmly, beginning to trek in a slow circle around you. You opened your mind to Rhys again, âHelp,â you called. Rhys answered this time, âWhere are you?!â It was a frantic response, you never asked for help, Rhys knew this. âJust off the coast, beneath the mountain range, Day court border, 400 hundred paces from the innâ you spoke to Rhys in choppy thoughts, trying to establish a location before all hell broke loose.Â
âI have,â you finally answered the stranger, whose lips quirked at your voice. He stopped circling and resumed his stance in front of you, blocking passage to the inn. âWhy?â He asked and you tried to keep your mind steady as you answered. âYouâre trespassers in these landsâ you stated simply, shrugging a shoulder up. He grinned then, âhad your lot not gotten in the way of our Kingâs plans, these would be our lands. We were promised them. I was personally promised the Court of Nightmares.â
âWell,â you shrugged feigning indifference, âthatâs not how the war played out, so I will have to ask you to leave,â you offered in your most bored political tone. The same tone youâd used with High Fae that ran off at the mouth in Hewn City. The stranger cocked his head the side then, eyes twinkling, âI donât think I will.â At that moment, one by one, additional soldiers appeared from the forest line. One, then four, then ten, until near twenty stood around you, looking on with hatred.Â
Shit.Â
âWeâd hoped for the Illyrians, but it seems your High Lord sent us a treat instead,â the stranger said with mirth. You steeled your spine, looking down your nose at the stranger, âTheyâre going to kill you, you know.â Heâd laughed at your threat. âI think not,â he said as as arrow was released from your left, finding purchase in your shoulder. You folded over on yourself at the blow, and looked up baring your teeth, before drawing your dagger and rushing the stranger with a feral sound.
Five more arrows hit you before your blade could find its target. One into your hip, two in your back, a fourth piercing your in your upper thigh, until the last burrowed into the back of your knee, bringing you down in front of him â forcing you to bow to the stranger. The arrows were laced with faebane you realized as youâd begun to feel its effects in your blood. Your power waning quickly, thoughts becoming murky.Â
You released another shattered thought to Rhys then, âTell him, please,â you begged raggedly. Rhysand came back with a rushed and tight, âHold on, Little One, weâre coming.â You shook your head, there wasnât time. âTell Azriel I love him if I donât make it, Rhys, promise me.â He responded but it muddled out, sounding like words shouted through a pool of water, then your brain fell quiet. The line severed.Â
The stranger lifted your head, hand wrapped around your throat, as he bent to meet your crouched form. âIâll be sure to savor this,â he smiled and the hilt of his sword came in fierce contact with your forehead.Â
It was the early morning on your fifth day away when Rhys heard you. âHelp,â it had come through so clearly that it startled Rhys awake and set his heart to racing. Youâd only asked for help once, during the war when you were overrun and near death. You were in danger.
Heâd sat up straight in bed, Feyre still sleeping silently at his side, hand resting on her pregnant stomach. âWhere are you?!â Heâd asked down the line, a little frantic, remembering the state he and Azriel had found you in last time. Gods, youâd been run through on a Hybern soldierâs sword, the damage was astronomical. Azriel had nearly killed everyone within a mile radius at the sight of you.
You recited your location in short bursts and Rhys focused on the bond of your bargain, using it to locate you with more precision. He reached out to Azriel then, âGet Cassian and meet me downstairs. Be ready to fly.â Azriel responded an affirmative and Rhys rushed around his room, grabbing his dagger lined belt, and using his magic to dress in his leathers quickly. He winnowed to the base of the stairs and was glad to find Cassian and Azriel waiting.Â
âTell him, pleaseâ you begged into Rhysâ mind then, words growing ragged. Rhysâ eyes slammed shut with a wince and he attempted to reassure you, âHold on, Little One, weâre coming.â Rhys opened his eyes and looked to Azriel, who was watching him with anticipation. You responded again, words growing murkier, a little warbled. âTell Azriel I love him if I donât make it, Rhys, promise me.â Rhysand felt sick. âWe will find you and you will tell him yourself,â he spoke but the bond was dead, silent, foreboding. Rhys thought he might vomit.Â
He looked to Azriel again, âItâs her. Sheâs in trouble. We have to go.â Azrielâs face darkened with a thunderous ferocity. Mother help the males whoâd harmed you. âWhere?â He asked, voice deep with the threat of murderous violence. âThe wilds on the border, off the coast of Day. Iâll winnow us as close as possible.â Azriel nodded his acquiesce and lifted a trembling hand to his hair, running scarred fingers through the strands. Cassian spoke then, âwe will get her back,â heâd said softly as Rhysand put his hands to the two of them, preparing for the jump. âAnd we will kill every last one of them,â Cassian added darkly as blue-black shadows encased them and they disappeared.Â
You awoke with a start, gasping like youâd been underwater. Your shoulders ached from your position. You pulled on your hands only to realize you were shackled to a tree somewhere deep in the forest, the same forest youâd been on the outskirts of earlier. You looked up to the sky, trying to find the sun to gauge how much time had passed. The sun had long moved past midday and was sinking towards the evening horizon. Your throat tightened. Where was Rhysand?Â
âNice of you to join us,â a voice spoke. It was the stranger again, he emerged from the camp set two hundred paces to your left, hidden by shrubs and underbrush. You got a good look at him this time. He was tall, leanly muscular in a way that reminded you of Lucien Vanserra. His hair was a dishwater blonde and lacked any sheen, falling in choppy dry waves around his shoulders. His face was gaunt, eyes sunken, bruised with a lack of rest, and his cheekbones were sharp, giving his face an angle that made him look harsh and unforgiving. Though he carried himself with confidence, you noticed a slight, barely there limp in his right leg, an old wound perhaps, one that never healed correctly. You noted that for later, if you ever got out of these shackles.Â
You leveled a glare at him that you hoped looked more fearsome than you felt. Mother, your bones ached and your wounds throbbed. âI left the arrows in, but broke off the shaft. Didnât want to have you healing too quickly.â He spoke with nonchalance, while polishing a dagger, your dagger, you realized as your eyes focused. You pulled at the shackles above your head, and the stranger chuckled at your attempt.Â
âWhat do you want?â Your voice croaked, mouth dry from disuse. The stranger laughed, pointing the blade at you, âI want my fucking court and youâre the key to getting it.â You shook your head then, âI am nothing.â The words sounded foreign on your tongue, a lie on some level, you knew this, but you would be damned before you gave up your family. The stranger clicked his tongue at your response, shaking his head.Â
âSurely you donât believe that? The High Lord doesnât trust easily, youâve been seen with his entourage. The Shadowsingerâs whore.â He squatted a few feet from you, eyes tracing from your tied hands down to your face, pausing at your breasts, before trekking down your stomach, thighs, and calves. He was sizing up how much fight you had left.
Your brain had short circuited though, the Shadowsingerâs whore. Mother above, youâd never even kissed. How long had this male watched you and your family? How had none of you seen it? A bitter laugh wretched from your lungs, âsorry to disappoint, but the Shadowsinger isnât mine.â No matter how desperately Iâve wished it so, you added silently.Â
The stranger grinned then, âif you are truly nothing, then Iâll make this a little sweeter.â He took steps towards you, raising the dagger to rest at your chin, the blade pressing to the underside painfully. âYouâre far too pretty to be nothing.â He ran the blade along the column of your throat, resting it against your sternum, between your breasts. You pushed yourself further into the tree, back protesting as the arrows burrowed deeper with the movement. You didnât like the new angle this interaction had taken and your fight or flight instincts were screaming.Â
You attempted to reach out to Rhysand, but the bond was dead silent. Your breathing hitched at the realization that you were truly alone in this. The stranger chuckled, dragging the blade down your chest, slicing the leathers, letting the fabric fall open and reveal your undergarments to his greedy view. Your legs moved to kick, but you realized quickly they too were tied. The blade came to rest at your bare stomach, and the stranger dug it in below the navel, causing blood to pool there. You winced, but made no sound.Â
âAh, I was hoping youâd be louder than that,â the stranger smirked, âIâll have to try harder.â He backed up then and pulled a whip from his back pocket, unfurling it with a crack. Your eyes widened and you brain went silent, fear overtaking your senses. âThere it is,â his smile gleamed with violent delight, âthereâs the reaction I was hoping for.â He reared an arm back before cracking the whip in your direction. The leather made contact with your torso, a stinging slice appearing along your rib cage. You jerked, but bit your tongue.
He cracked it again and again until you were bloody, slices in your leathers, festering wounds along your breasts, ribs, and stomach. Youâd counted to 25 lashes before your brain gave out and your vision blurred from the pain. You looked up to the sky wearily. The sun was gone and the stars were slowly appearing. You smiled at them, remembering Azrielâs words from that night all those years ago.Â
You hoped heâd forgive you for not telling him. You hoped heâd understand your fear in revealing that secret, that the bond had snapped for you during the war. When that Hybern soldierâs sword pierced your armor, running through your body to the hilt, and heâd let out a fearsome bellow from across the field at the sight. You felt it then, the golden strumming taking the form of a fated thread linking you two. You been near death when he and Rhys had found you and the only thing you could do was smile. Such an ironic thing it was to die in the arms of your mate.Â
Your head lolled to the side as exhaustion threatened to overtake you. âAzriel,â your thoughts ventured, calling down the bond he didnât even know existed, âI love you.â Darkness swam in the corners of your vision but you swore you felt his responding tug. The Mother was kind for granting that hallucinative mercy in your final hours. Your body gave out, slumping against the shackles and darkness overwhelmed you.Â
Azriel was furious. No, furious wasnât the word, he was a walking time bomb. You were gone. His mate was missing and he was going to explode. As heâd arrived with Rhys and Cassian to the location youâd given them, he could smell you. His eyes searched frantically around the scene before him until they zeroed in on an item hanging from a branch a few dozen paces out. Cloth of some sort? He approached and could detect your scent on it, realizing quickly it was your clothing. A ripped cotton blouse. His fists clenched and he vaguely heard Rhysand speaking to his left. âThey mustâve captured her here.â Rhys crouched down to the ground, two fingers swiping the dirt there, before bringing them eye level to examine sample. âBlood,â he muttered, rubbing the hand on the leg of his pants, âshe was injured.â Azrielâs heart thundered, he was going to fucking explode.Â
He set his shadows work, surveying the forest with rapid precision. Theyâd cover more ground this way, an army of three operating like a whole infantry. By the time the sun rose to midday, Azriel was ready to begin screaming. They trekked further into the forest, following a line of smoke that was miles deep, originating at a camp somewhere far into the wilds. His shadows murmured to him of a small band of males there, of you, shackled to a fucking tree, arrows buried in your back. Heâd nearly lost the contents of his stomach at the information and set to a run alongside Rhysand and Cassian.Â
As the three approached the encampment, the sun was nearing dusk. Rhysand had commanded the halt and strategize. There were roughly twenty-five men, all armed. They couldnât enter this blindly and infuriated, they would lose if they werenât careful. Azriel hated admitting he was right, his instincts screaming otherwise. Mate, mate, mate, his heart pounded.Â
They backed off to a thousand paces out, close enough that they could hear if the troop vacated the premises. As Rhysand and Cassian spoke quietly, Azriel felt his heart thrum. The golden thread there had pulled him closer to you and he could tell you were still alive. Though Rhys couldnât reach out through your bargain, Azrielâs bond was still alight and warm, he stroked it with gentle affection. You might not feel it, but Gods he would try.Â
As the trio retraced their steps to the camp, stars were just beginning to light overhead and Azriel grasped his daggers tightly, knuckles cracking around the hilt. He was going to kill them. Kill them all brutally for taking you, for touching what was his. When they were within a stones throw from the camp he heard it, heard you. âAzriel,â you whispered into his mind. He went stock still, spine ramrod straight, fingers trembling as they gripped his knives. The golden bond vibrated in his chest, and he felt you reaching out through murky waters, against all odds. âI love you,â you said with a soft exhaustion before your side went dark. Azrielâs breathing guttered and he felt high on mirthroot, sick from fae wine, and enraged to the point of explosion all at once. His blue siphons flared brightly from the surge of power. He closed his eyes and reached out to you through the bond, tugging on the thread connecting your souls. He was coming. He was going to save you.Â
Rhysand looked to him then, curiosity swimming in his eyes as he took in the Shadowsingerâs sudden stop. Azriel opened eyes, irises alight with fire and shadow, voice grinding with dark threat, âLetâs go.â Rhys nodded and Cassian drew his knives.Â
They moved with brutal efficiency, killing male after male until none remained alive. Some had begged, others shouted and scattered their belongings as they set into a run. His shadows had caught them, twisting around their ankles and dragging them back to meet their fate, daggers slicing throats from ear to ear until blood poured like a prized hunt being slaughtered, the Illryianâs hands grasping and snapping necks like twigs. It was a practiced routine for the three of them, whoâd trained since they were teens.Â
As they stepped through the shrubs to find you, Cassian gasped and Azriel felt his lungs threaten to collapse at the sight. Youâd been shackled to a tree at the wrists and ankles and whipped within an inch your life. Wounds glistened with blood along your thighs, soft stomach, ribs, breasts. There had to be thirty lashes. A knife wound was visible at your exposed navel. Your head hung forward unconscious and Azrielâs heart pounded. He wanted to vomit and his hands shook.Â
âShe said youâd come,â a voice said, emerging from behind the tree you were bound to. The male held a dagger to your throat. This new stranger had to be the leader of this band of idiots. Azrielâs eyes followed the tip of the blade up his arm to the maleâs eyes and a growl escaped him as he bared his teeth. The male laughed, âto think she said she was nothing and yet I have both the Shadowsinger and the Lord of Bloodshed before me to save her.â
Azrielâs mind latched on to that piece of information, turning it over in his head. Youâd told this male you were nothing? Did you not know Azriel would do anything for you? You were everything. You were his love, light of his life, keeper of his soul, his mate. How alone you mustâve felt, how scared. Azrielâs eyes narrowed, he was going kill him.Â
Rhysand spoke then, emerging from behind the two Illyrian brothers, âAnd may I ask why youâve abducted a member of my court?â He was in High Lord mode, tone bored, fingers picking at his sleeve. The Hybern maleâs smile gleamed at the introduction, âjust who I was hoping to see!âÂ
âHybern, the old fool, made a few promises in his last days as King,â the male spoke, digging the blade down to your chest, where it rested over your heart. Azriel stared at the blade, eyes tracing to the the hilt. That was your blade, the one heâd given you when you first arrived in Velaris, the one you wielded against Eris, the one you kept strapped to your thigh. Your own knife had been used against you.
âOne of which was that I would inherit these lands after your lot were annihilated.â Azriel wanted to laugh at the maleâs words, was he serious? âA dead king cannot honor empty promises,â he ground out eyes shifting to the maleâs blue eyes. âA dead and headless king cannot gift you shit,â Azriel spat. The male smiled then, a feline grin growing on his lips. âPrecisely Shadowsinger, a dead king cannot give me my due, but this little thing can help.â Youâd made a noise then, something akin to a whimper as you came to. Eyes wincing then fluttering open as your irises found Azrielâs immediately, some preternatural magnetism existing between the two of you. Then you looked to Cassian and Rhysand, and your eyes swam with apology.
âShe awakens!â The male sang, looking to you. Azriel jumped at the opportunity to send his shadows out while the maleâs attention was elsewhere. They traced over the ground to you, circling the tree and working at your binds. He sent two others towards the distracted male. âWho knew the Night Court was so attached to a whore,â the male laughed, âI want my lands,â he fixed Rhysand with a glare, âyou can have your plaything back in exchange for my seat, High Lordâ he sneered.Â
Rhysand looked from you to the stranger to the shadow now creeping ever closer to the male. âYou must be mistaken,â Rhys said then and Azrielâs shadows wrapped around the maleâs neck and wrist simultaneously, whispering violence for touching their mate, forcing the dagger from his grasp and air from his lungs. Azriel tightened them until they heard bones crack in the maleâs arm and choked sounds exit his throat, face reddening as oxygen was cut off. âI do not make deals with dim witted cunts,â Rhysand said darkness beginning to surround him, High Lord voice encroaching, âI do not entertain terrorists and I do not take kindly to threats on my family.âÂ
âFinish him,â Rhysand said darkly into Azrielâs mind and the Shadowsinger moved with lightening precision, dagger find purchase as the maleâs neck was sliced open and his right hand was removed from his body. The maleâs body toddled forward with a choked gurgling, before falling to the ground, lifeless, blood pooling.
Azrielâs gaze fell to you and he softened. His shadows finished picking the lock of the shackles that held your arms and they clicked open, allowing your body to fall into his. âAzriel,â you breathed, voice weary with exhaustion, âI didnâtâ Iââ you stuttered, pulling a shaking hand to his face. You swallowed, tracing his cheek with trembling fingers, âI didnât think Iâd see you again,â you murmured, your watery eyes searching his face, memorizing the details of his visage.
Azriel picked you up in his arms and unfurled his wings protectively. âI will always come for you,â he said vehemently, eyes watching your face with intensity. You smiled, a weepy trembling smile as you nodded. Rhysand reached the Shadowsingerâs side then and your eyes moved to his violet ones, âHi Little One, Iâm so sorry weâre late.â You let out a single watery laugh before wincing as the sudden expansion of your chest burned the wounds littering your chest and back.Â
âThe arrows,â you gasped, âat my back,â you twisted in Azrielâs hold, âplease get them out.â Rhysand leaned down to inspect the wounds. âFaebane,â he surmised, thatâs why his connection to you had been severed. âWe need to get her to Madja, now.â Azriel nodded, allowing Rhys and Cassian to move closer so the High Lord could winnow them home.Â
Landing back at the House of Wind had been chaotic. Rhysand shouted immediately to get every healer available and the dining room table had been lined with a sheet, turning the warm family room into a medical ward. You were laid facedown on the table and Azriel took to your side, scarred hands touching your face, keeping you awake as Madja worked to remove the six arrows burrowed in your body.Â
Youâd screamed. The sound would haunt Azriel for centuries. You begged to make it stop and Madja had apologized softly as she worked faster to remove them while minimizing damage. âIâve got you,â Azriel said softly, âeyes on me, alright?â He rubbed the hollow under your eye with a scarred thumb and you opened your eyes to lock on his. âNo gloves,â you said, smiling tightly, before wincing as Madja applied local anesthetic to an arrow wound. Azriel smiled, eyes a little watery. âNot with you,â he whispered shaking his head, ânever with you.â You smiled at him and the sight set Azrielâs heart to fluttering.
Later, after the arrows had been removed and wounds bandaged, youâd been given a strong herb tonic for pain that set your head swimming as exhaustion overtook you. Azriel carried you his room, laying you gently onto the mattress and covered you with the duvet. He leaned down then, breathing in your scent as he placed a kiss to your forehead, nuzzling his nose to the Winter white hair there. He would tell you. When you awoke, he would bare his soul to you.Â
You woke with a groan. Fucking Gods, your body ached with the effort it took to roll over. âEasy,â a voice came from the corner of the room. Your breath gasped out of you as your eyes raced to the figure there. âAzriel,â you breathed. The male smiled warmly at you and stepped forward to rest at the edge of the mattress. You pushed up in the bed, the wound at your shoulder screaming from the exertion. Once in a sitting position, you rested your back on the headboard as you looked at him. âFor taking out a small militia, you seemed to be decently uninjured,â you said smiling tightly, memories of the stranger and his whip haunting your mind. He snorted a small laugh, âYes well,â he looked down then, thumbs fiddling with each other, chest heating, âI had something worth fighting for.âÂ
He looked back to you and your cheeks had grown pink, a small pleased smile at your lips. âI heard you, you know,â he said softly, turning enough to rest a hand on your thigh, thumb drawing small, soothing circles there. The heat generated in the touch sent a spark to your belly. Oh, you were fucked. âI heard you in my head, through the bond,â he said eyes watching his thumb as it traced on your bare skin hypnotically.Â
âYou know then?â You whispered, breath skittering out of you. You were scared to death of the trajectory the conversation was taking, your heart preparing for the best and the worst simultaneously. Azrielâs eyes dragged up your form to your face and a smile broke over his lips, one that caused your heart to ignite. Your Mother had once told you the heart was an organ of fire and youâd laughed, never having cause to believe such a statement. You understood now.Â
âIââ Azriel started, before clearing his throat, turning his body to face you in full, a knee pulled up on the mattress, touching yours. âIn the whole time I have known youâ two centuries, Little One,â he looked at you pointedly, âyou have been my dearest friend, my greatest comfort, my confidant, and the person I admire most in this Gods forsaken world.â He breathed deeply, a whoosh exiting his lips as his hand tightened around your thigh. âThe times when you were lost to me have been some of the most painful moments Iâve experienced.âÂ
Your eyes began to water, and you moved a hand to rest atop his own, thumb circling the scarred skin at his wrist. He took a breath then and the air shifted between you, his mouth opening and closing, as if he was gathering his confidence for what he was about to say next. âI have loved for you so long that Iâd given up all hope of reciprocation.â The words shattered through you as all air escaped your lungs, guts swooping down as heat alighted there. âI felt the bond the night Eris came for you,â he continued, eyes watching your entwined hands. Your body went still and a startled laugh exited your mouth. Azrielâs eyes flew to yours questioningly.Â
âSorry,â you chuckled again, âIâm just realizing how fucking stupid weâve been.â You lolled your to the side, watching him with loving eyes. âIâve been in love with you for almost two centuries, Azriel,â you smiled, âI thought you wouldnât want me.â Azrielâs eyes widened, his mouth opening and closing in disbelief, two then three times. You thought for a second to compare him to the guppy fish that swam in schools along the banks of the Sidra but refrained.Â
He pushed forward then, hands coming to cup your face, pinky and ring fingers resting in the hollow below your ear, thumbs stroking your cheeks. âHow could I not? Youâre everything,â he whispered, searching your face, conviction showing in his eyes. You couldnât stop the smile that overtook your mouth as you spoke, âand youâre my mate.â His eyes moved to your lips, glazing before they moved back to your eyes. âAs you are mine,â he spoke confidently.Â
Your eyes watched each other for a long second, âI really hope youâll kiss me this time,â your hand trailed up his arm, fingers teasing. âMother knows Iâve been dreaming of it for far too long.â He surged forward, lips meeting yours and you thought you might float away. You gasped and his tongue moved in, claiming your mouth, your taste with his own.Â
He pulled away minutes later, a little breathless, âSorry to have kept you waiting, my love,â he spoke, resting his forehead to yours with a smile, watching your dazed expression, pink cheeks, as your lips split into a grin. Your hand moved to the front of his button down, fisting in the material there, giving an experimental tug. âKiss me like that again and Iâll consider forgiving you.âÂ
The laugh that came out of him was golden, and you pushed yourself to memorize it. Azriel, Lord of Shadows, Spymaster for the Night Court, Rhysandâs right hand and Illyrian warrior was soft for you. He loved you. He was your mate. Youâd be giddy about it for the rest of your life.Â
Your healing had been slower than you wouldâve liked. The faebane had done serious damage but with Madjaâs help, the scarring was minimized. The lashes at your front took two weeks to heal, the arrow wounds took three. Three fucking weeks. Meanwhile all you could think about was your mate. He hadnât left your side in the interim. Helping you take steps, applying the wound creams that Madja had left in small glass pots, keeping you fed, making you laugh, telling you how much he loved you daily. Mother above, you were going to ruin this male.Â
You walked into the kitchen at the end of week three, the only evidence of your wounds now in the slight limp of your right leg and twinge in your left shoulder. The marks at your stomach and chest had diminished into barely there, silver scores. Cassian was sitting at the small table in the corner as you entered. âHi Cass,â you greeted, âseen my mate around this morning?â It was fun calling him that, a small part of your chest swelling with pride each time.Â
Cassian smirked, âHeâs beenâŚâŚ out.â Your eyes narrowed, he was being evasive. âOut where?â You asked, grabbing an apple and hopping up on the counter to watch the male. He shrugged, âNo idea, Little One.â You smirked, âI know where you sleep Cassian,â you started, âis it really wise to lie to me?â Nesta strode into the kitchen, âWhatâs he done now?â She asked laughing. âHey! Iâll have you know Iâve done nothing!â The male exclaimed, âSheâs interrogating me on the whereabouts of her maaate.â He dragged out the vowel of the last word mockingly. Nesta took her seat next to Cassian and laughed, âAh, him.â She looked to you then, âheâll be around to collect you soon.âÂ
You looked between the two, suspicion dripping from your features as you took another bite from the apple in your palm. âYou two are being weird,â you stated. Nesta shrugged, nudging Cassian who smiled at her. âJust wait,â she said softly, âmaybe cook yourself a meal.â Cassianâs mouth quirked with a laugh he restrained. âRight, Iâm leaving, cause whatever this is,â you waved a hand at them, âis deeply odd.â You hopped off the counter and strolled to the exit. You heard them laughing softly once you were out of the room, making you roll your eyes at their antics.
Youâd gone to the library after leaving the kitchen and found Elain already there. Her eyes moved to you upon your entrance and she closed her book, middle finger marking her spot. âHow are you feeling?â She asked softly, eyes surveying your body for lingering damage. You sighed, falling into the sofa across from her. âIâm better,â you said quietly, âthe pain is gone, scars are minimal.â You turned your eyes to her, she looked brighter than the last time youâd seen her. âHow are you?â You asked in return. She smiled sweetly. âBetter,â she echoed you and you wanted to laugh. âIâve been exchanging letters with Lucien,â she added and your ears perked up.
âThatâs great, Elain,â you rest your chin on a closed fist, watching her. She shifted and sat her book to the side, page forgotten. âI want to tell you something,â she said quietly, fingers twiddling with each other. She looked... nervous? âIâm all ears,â you said softly.Â
âI had a vision while you were gone,â she started and took a deep breath. âIt was so muddled at first, I couldnât tell who it was, but then I saw you. Your hair was longer, you stood taller, and your belly was round.â The breath left your body in a powerful exhale. She looked to you again, eyes watching yours, âYou were pregnant and happy and in love,â she said quietly, as if the words in themselves were fragile. Your hands trembled and you moved them under your thighs, her eyes didnât miss the action.Â
âI couldnât understand why the Mother would send me a vision like that, I saw Feyreâs pregnancy, but weâre sisters, you know?â You nodded. âThen I realized I recognized the tattooed arm Iâd seen wrap around you, knew it was Azriel.â Your eyes watered, and you hiccuped out a small laugh. âIâve known for a while you two were fated, but the Mother was telling me for certain. I hope you know how happy we are for you.â She finished and moved to sit next you, small hand touching your knee.Â
âWhen they brought you in that night, I thought the Mother had lied to me, that it was a vision of what could have been, that you wouldnât make it.â Youâd never heard Elain speak at length in this way, and you thought you might stop breathing. âIâve never been happier to see you than when Azriel brought you in to read days later, my sweet friend.â You surged forward, throwing your arms around the female and she returned the gesture warmly.Â
You sat back and looked at her then. âThank you,â you said, voice small, a little watery. She nodded before turning to resume her original spot at the end of the sofa, picking up her book and opening it to the page sheâd left off.Â
In the hours that followed, youâd returned to the kitchen, grateful to find Cassian and Nesta had left. You took Nestaâs advice, gathering the ingredients to build a small berry tart. It had just gone in the oven when your mate appeared in the doorway.
âHello love,â he said casually, leaning against the door jamb. You startled, turning on your heel to find him smiling at you. âWhere have you been?â You asked walking towards him and running your hands around his midsection in a hug, head resting against his chest. His arm came around your shoulders as he pressed a kiss to your hair, breathing in your scent. âThat, my dearest one, is a surprise.âÂ
You looked up chin resting against his chest, watching his face. âItâd better be good, I baked for you,â you said, smiling softly at the Spymaster. His eyes moved to the oven then and back to you, irises darkening, as his pupils blew a little wide. âYou⌠baked?â He asked disbelieving, âdidnât know you knew how to bake,â he followed up playfully. You gasped and shoved him, âfor that, you can starve, have fun finding another mate to bake for you.â He laughed heartily and caught your hand, bringing your knuckles to his lips, eyes swimming with warm affection as he pressed a kiss there. Gods, the action made lust swoop in your stomach, heat spreading.Â
âThe fool Iâd be to turn away such a female,â he said, voice deepening, lips running across your knuckles with each word. âAzrielâ you breathed. âYes?â He offered in return, still smiling, moving your knuckles back and forth against his hot mouth. âPlease tell me this surprise involves you bedding me.â A growl creeped out of his throat, the thought of you under him sending lust racing down his spine and to his groin.Â
âIt might,â he said quietly, lips resuming their exploration, tracking small kisses from your knuckles, to the joint of your thumb, the inside of your wrist where Rhysâ tattoo lingered, up the soft skin of your arm, to your elbow, until he reached the skin of your shoulder. His lips traced over the raised skin there, a small nip above the scar as he traced north to your collarbone. Youâd gone to putty in his hands, head rolling to the side to bare your throat. He pressed soft kisses there, pausing at your pulse point to trace the area with his warm tongue, a whimper escaping your mouth.Â
âIf this is going to become a regular thing, Iâll need you two to relocate to the River House,â a voice came from behind you and you jumped in shock, but your mate, he let out a possessive growl before turning on the intruder. Rhysand laughed airily and folded his arms over his chest. âEasy, brother,â he smiled, causing Azriel to roll his eyes. You blinked a little dazed, and pulled away from the Shadowsinger. âYouâre gonna make me burn my fucking tart,â you shoved him with an arm and laughed as you turned to resume your place at the oven.Â
Azriel instructed you to dress comfortably and be ready in a hour as he kissed your knuckles one last time and exited the kitchen. Butterflies roamed freely in your stomach at the thought of what he had planned. Youâd returned to your quarters after removing the tart from the oven and portioning it into a small travel sized container. You were going to accept the bond, and your nerves were alight with anxious excitement. After you dressed in a lightweight linen dress, you packed a small bag with your remaining creams, and the boxed tart youâd prepared earlier.Â
You descended the stairs to find Azriel waiting at the base, his wings standing proudly behind him, shadows skittering around his feet. At the sight of you they raced to meet on the bottom step, running up your legs, around your waist and into your hair. A laugh escaped you as one nuzzled into the space behind your ear. Azriel watched fondly. âThey love you,â he said smiling, taking a step to meet you, âever since the bond snapped, Iâve had the hardest time reining them back from touching you.âÂ
You reached a hand out to meet his, interlacing your fingers. âTheyâre cute, but youâre cuter,â you said with gentle affection. A shadow pinched at your waist and Azrielâs cheeks went a little pink as he laughed.Â
âWill you tell me what the surprise is?â You asked as he walked you toward the training balcony. âIâm afraid Iâm very poorly dressed for training,â you joked. He snorted, âno, weâre not training.â He came to rest at the railing and then turned to you, running a hand up your arm, fingers moving to hold the back of your neck, warm palm heating the skin there, thumb grazing your jawline. âAmongst many things Iâve been terribly late for recently, I realize I owe you a date.âÂ
Your face went a little puzzled and you looked to his eyes. âA date?â You questioned. He nodded, âI was supposed to take you flying.â Realization dawned on your features and a smile overtook your lips, each tooth shining in the setting sun. âI wanted to kiss you that night too,â you admitted laughing, remembering how desperate youâd been for his touch and attention. He smiled softly, âyou have no idea how angry I was with Rhys for calling me away.â Your eyes widened, still in disbelief that this male wanted you return. It seemed both a millennia in the making and still so new and fragile.Â
Azriel snuck an arm around your waist and brought you up into the stretch of his firm body. His other hand tracing down your hip, then thigh, to curve under your knees as he picked you up. His wings unfurled and he shot into the air. A shaky laugh startled out of you and you gripped him tighter, your arms winding around his neck. His wings flapped in thunderous bursts, taking you higher, until you could see the entirety of Velaris spread below, the Sidra flowing like a snake through the winding city. Your breath left you in awe. âThe Peregryn was right,â you said loud enough for him to hear and he smiled, pressing a kiss to your temple.
The flight was short, but it took you to the rural banks of the Sidra on the outskirts of the city, just before it emptied into the sea. You could see ships sailing into the harbor, moonlight beginning to trickle across the water. This was undeniably special, you thought, no one would see you up here and you felt like this was the edge of the world itself. You turned to Azriel, finding his eyes already watching you. âThank you,â you said softly, leaning into him, his chin meeting your forehead as you moved your body to rest alongside the length of his. His hand came to rest at the small of your back, pinky stretching to graze the curve of your bottom. Wherever this was going, you were very interested.Â
He turned and grasped your hand, pulling you back up the hill and away from the view, towards a field of wildflowers and grasses. There, in the middle, a blanket had been laid out, small candles lit to illuminate the setting. A basket sat in one corner, a bottle of fae wine held within with an assortment of pastries, breads, and cheeses. You realized quickly that your mate, the male youâd loved for damn near two centuries, was courting you. The thought thrilled you.Â
He led you to the blanket and motioned for you to sit next him. âI must confess, I never took you for a romantic,â you said looking from the candles, to the basket, and then to him. He was watching you again. He smiled, laughing a bit nervously, âIâm a lot of things,â he said and your eyebrow quirked. âOh yeah? Like what?â You challenged him and he loved you for it. You made him feel easy to love, you made loving fun and freeing. Azriel had once only thought freedom could be found in fucking and flying, then heâd found you and he knew it was there too. In the smile of your lips, in the thrill of your touch, in the ease of your love.Â
âWell,â he started, moving his wings to lean into you, pressing a kiss to your exposed shoulder. The action caused you to shiver. âIâm a spymaster.â You snorted, âno shit.â A laugh rumbled in his chest. âIâm a bit shy as you well know, Iâm quite fond of dancing, Iâmââ he hummed the last letter, pausing his thoughts and moving his lips up your neck. âIâm in love with you,â he said biting into the flesh at the juncture of your collarbone and throat, cock hardening at the sound that rolled out of your mouth. âIâm going to take you right here, on this blanket, under the stars.âÂ
You gasped, your hands moved find purchase in the hair at the back of his head, fingers winding through the strands, nails dragging at his scalp. His nose ran the length of your jawline before his lips found yours. He rumbled a small hum the instant his mouth touched your own. At first it was a gentle press, teasing you as he had done today in the kitchen at the House of Wind. The adrenaline racing up your spine made you feel like you might vibrate out of your skin. His hand reached up then, threading broad fingers into your hair as he took the kiss deeper. Tonguing the bottom of your lip until your mouth opened, his tongue stroking your own. Humming with contentment, he tilted your head, deepening the kiss at a new angle that had heat swooping down to your core.Â
You brought your left hand to his shoulder, fisting your fingers in the fabric there and pulling him closer. He understood your intention and leaned you back into the blanket, pleasure alighting each nerve as his body pressed into your own. He eased up on your lips and began a slow trek south, pulling the strap of your dress down the curve of your shoulder, leaving a love bite there that had you gasping. He kissed down the bust line of the dress, laving his tongue at the swell of your breast. Your breath was coming in pants and you pressed yourself up on your elbows as he moved further south, fingertips tracing the hem of your dress that had risen to the middle of your thigh.Â
He looked back to you and smiled, mischief playing in his eyes as he ran his hands up your thighs, the slow drag pulling the dress with it. âIâve been thinking about your cunt for centuries,â he said, his lips on your knee, pressing insistently as they moved north. âIâve been dreaming of making you come on my tongue since I met you.â
Your breath leaves you in one fell swoop as you feel his tongue at the juncture of your hip and thigh. His mouth was insistent at skin there, tonguing the lace of your panties before pulling them down your legs and off entirely. He picked up a foot, placing it to his chest as he traced the long line of your body with hungry eyes. You were panting already, dressed rucked up around your waist, straps fallen down your arms and breasts heaving. His gaze flowed south and landed on your pink cunt, glistening, begging for him. His eyes went back to your face then, and his titled his head to the side, âWill you let me eat your pretty little cunt?â He asked fingertips tracing the scars of your calf with reverence. He brought your foot up, kissing the inside of the ankle, then nosing his way over your scarred calf, suckling at the skin there. âPlease,â he added, eyes moving back to yours as his mouth continued his ministrations.Â
âMother above, Azriel,â you breathed and a laughed startled out of you, âyou are mouthy.â He chuckled darkly then, nipping at your knee, taking special care to press a gentle kiss at the new scar there. âIs that a no then?â He said softly and your head fell back with a groan, exposing your neck to his view. âAs if,â you said, head pulling back up and lolling to the side to rest on your shoulder. âIâve thought about it too, and if you back out now I will explode.â He laughed again, freely this time, forehead resting on your thigh.Â
His eyes find yours again, and he kept them there as he traced his lips north. He nosed the juncture of your cunt and inner thigh, running a tongue along your mound. You gasped and eyes narrowed, watching him with rapt attention. He pressed a kiss to the top of your slit and his hands come up to open you to him, pulling the lips apart and tonguing the collected moisture there. Your head fell back as your elbows gave way, falling flat against the blanket.Â
âYou taste better than I imagined,â he said before wrapping his lips around your clit and sucking. The moan that left you had his hips pushing into the ground to find relief as his cock begged for release. His tongue flicked against your clit as he sucked and hummed. He thought this might become his favorite place in all of Prythian. He thought that every bad thing that had happened in his life seemed insignificant now that he was able to worship freely between your thighs. He traced fingers up and paused to wet them on his tongue, before pushing his middle and ring finger in to the second knuckle, pulling them out and scissoring them back in again. His tongue found your sweet little button for a second time that night and he laved at it, listening to your cries as he pushed you to the brink. Azrielâs life had been a nightmare, but between your thighs, mouth on your cunt, walls fluttering around his fingers, he thought heâd been blessed by the Mother herself.Â
Your hips rocked up in time with his fingers and you cried as your gut twisted, the coil there tightening. âAz-â you gasped. âAzriel,â you went a little whiny on the vowels of his name, and your hand reached down to thread your fingers into his hair, nails scratching and tugging the strands. He hummed, the vibration sending shocks up your spine. âAzriel, baby,â you gasped, coming up on an elbow again, rutting your hips into his face as he took you higher. He didnât let up, suckling at your cunt, fingers finding the spongy spot on the backside of your clit that made the world go blank âAzriel!â you gasped again, hips stuttering out, âFuck, fuckâ oh.â In seconds you were reaching your peak, hips faltering, thighs twitching, toes curling into the hard planes of his back.Â
He pulled his mouth off of you, pressing kisses to your pubic bone as he moved north up your stomach. He eyes were alight with desire, the male was pure want and you were his last meal. He pulled his fingers from your cunt and trailed them up to rest at your neck as he slotted his body between your thighs and kissed you. The hedonism of tasting yourself on his mouth made you wetter, cunt pressing into the hard line of his cock, still restricted in his trousers. He moaned at the contact, mouth leaving yours to rest his head against your chin and gather himself. The sound sent a pleasurable shock directly to your core. You grasped the hand at your throat and brought his fingers up and to your mouth, tongue laving at them before taking them to the knuckle, and pulling back slow, hollowing out your cheeks and sucking, keeping your eyes on his. He bared his teeth the sight and ground his hard cock into you, the friction on your clit making your thighs twitch.Â
âMy sweet little mate,â he cooed. âLove of my life,â he nosed your cheek, his fingers still in your mouth. âAll my dreaming has been put to shame it would seem,â he pulled his fingers from your mouth and replaced them with his tongue, his hands flying to his belt. He growled in struggle and you ventured a laugh. His eyes found yours and his jaw ticked, âkeep laughing, sweet girl, Iâll fuck your throat next and you wonât come.â Your eyes went a little wide and a feline grin appeared on your face. âMouthy indeed,â you said with glee as he finally got the buckle undone and pushed the pants down and off.Â
His shirt went next and your fingers traced up his exposed arms to his shoulders. âIâve seen you shirtless a dozen times, and you still take my breath away,â you said softly, a hand resting on his pectoral. He laughed and went a little pink, before he pushed your dress up your body and over your head, leaving you bare. âIâve always been impressed by your ability to so disarming,â he said, mouth finding the space above your breast as his hands came to cup them, fingers toying with the nipples. âItâs my favorite thing about you, you see me in a way I canât even see myself,â he followed up.Â
Your eyes watered at the admission and your hands found his face, bringing his mouth back to yours as you kissed him again, tongue entwining with his. Your hands grasped his shoulders, as your leg found his hip and you pushed him over, onto his back. Your hands came to rest on his chest as you settled your weight on his lower abdomen. You could feel his manhood standing to attention, insistent at the curve of your ass and you reached around to grasp it, pushing your chest out for his greedy eyes. Taking him in long strokes, you ran your hand up and down, circling your thumb around the head. His eyes screwed shut as his breathing shallowed.Â
âWanna know a secret, baby?â You offered, rocking your hips in time with your strokes. He whined then, the Lord of Shadows keened a little whine for you that had you ready to come right there. âLast time we hosted a gala, that night before Hybern,â you were panting, âall I could think about was taking you to bed.â His eyes opened and hazel was gone blacked out in pure desire. His hands found your hips and his own began to move in time with you. âI thought about riding you,â you said, twisting your hand in a way that had his breath guttering out of him. âI thought you might love me in the way you looked at me.â His eyes softened and he leaned up, hands tracing up your spine as he pressed kisses to your chest.Â
âI loved you that night and every night since,â he said before tonguing a nipple and sucking it into his mouth. âThat dress you wore, my color, had me hard for a week.â You laughed then removing your hand from his cock and bringing both to his face, so you could kiss him. His hands slipped to your ass then, palming the cheeks as his tongue moved in tandem with yours. When you moved back from him, a string of salvia still connected you two, you reached up to comb fingers through his hair gently.
âI brought you something,â you said quietly, looking to the corner of the quilt where your bag had dropped ages ago. His brow furrowed, confusion showing in his features. âYou donât have to, but I brought some of that tart. If you want,â you offered the statement nervously, as if there was still a chance for rejection. Azrielâs heart went soft and his brain turned to mush.
âYou want to accept it?â He questioned, hands sliding up your back and to your waist. You smiled and looked at him incredulously, âOf course I want to accept it, it feels like Iâve waited a millennia for you.â Youâd laughed a bit and that feeling of home raced through him again. Gods, he was fucked.Â
You leaned off his lap, pulling the strap of your bag to you and unzipped it. There, packaged in a little glass container, lay a small slice of the berry tart youâd fretted over earlier in the day. âNesta made some stupid comment about âcookingâ when Iâd asked where you were,â you laughed in hindsight at the femaleâs leading words. âShe knew because Cassian knew, he helped me with the food and candles,â Azriel murmured pushing your hair up and over your shoulder.Â
He pulled the container from your grasp then and opened it before picking the pastry up with his fingers, the same fingers that had been inside you minutes ago. Eyes on yours he took the first bite, your heart thrumming as the golden thread of your bond lit up like the sunrise. His eyes never left yours as he consumed the pastry in four bites, swallowing and pulling his fingers into his mouth at the remaining sweetness there.Â
The bond between you two was shining, strong and thrumming with love. âHi,â you tried, your thoughts reaching out to him. He smiled, laughing freely, and his voice came through clearly, âHi, Little One.â You choked out a laugh, eyes watering as you leaned forward to kiss him, tasting the berries on his tongue. âCan I make love to my mate now?â He questioned down the bond and you laughed again. His hands were already tracing your hips as you leaned forward, hand reaching underneath to guide him into your cunt. Lowering yourself down, you rocked forward once then twice in order to take him to the hilt.Â
Mother above, he was big. His cock was thick and filled you wholly, pushing against your cervix making your eyes flutter in pleasure. You thought of the comment Mor had made about wingspan once decades ago and you heard him laugh, âIâm flattered, truly,â he said playfully, reading your thoughts and nipping at your shoulder.
You rose up again and set to riding him slowly, hips moving in long strokes as his hands traced your ass, pulling at the flesh there in time with your movements. You gave a experimental squeeze of your walls, and he keened a loud moan that had you speeding up your flow. âYou keep that up, Little One and I wonât last,â he panted at your throat. âThatâs rather the point,â you laughed breathlessly, your own hand moving to cup your breast, the other sliding down to circle your clit. His eyes traced the view greedily, moving down to the point where you connected, watching your cunt take him in full, his cock glistening with your shared wetness. He bared his teeth at the sight, a rumble lighting in his chest.Â
Just as your walls began to flutter with your impending orgasm, he grasped you and flipped you to your back, pulling your hands from your body and entwining your fingers with his own on each side of your head. He ground his pelvis in deep and your legs hitched higher around his waist. âAzriel, fucking Gods,â you called out at the switch in angle, the tip of his cock grinding into your cervix. He hummed at your throat, teeth marking you there as his hips pulled out and pushed in, grinding each time he bottomed out into you. His wings flared behind him and you thought youâd never seen a more beautiful sight.Â
âYou take me so well, my love,â he panted, âyou were made for me.â You whined then, cunt fluttering around him as he bottomed out deep and held it there, grinding his pubic bone into your clitoris. The pleasure raced up your spine and you thought youâd never be able to leave this place, might have to keep him inside you forever. He growled, reading your thoughts. âYou want me to fuck this cunt forever?â He asked aloud leaning up, pulling his hands from yours.Â
You whined at the loss, but the sound died as he pulled your legs up his waist to his shoulders, kissing the scarred calf. He drew his cock out, only to slam back in. âFuck,â you moaned out, voice going up two octaves. âYou want me between your thighs for the rest of my days?â He said again, hips moving faster, your hands moving to your tits as they bounced from the impact. His eyes watched the movement and he bared his teeth again, turning his head to bite into the flesh of your calf.Â
âAzriel!â You called out again, pleasure zipped up your spine and you felt your stomach tighten. âAz, baby, Iâm so close.â He chuckled darkly. âBe a good girl and come on my cock,â he said as his fingers traced down your leg to find your clit, rubbing the bundle in quick, timed circles. âAz- I-,â you barely got the words out before your orgasm overtook you, a long moan exiting your mouth as your cunt tightened around him, he ground into you and worked you through it, before dropping your legs back to his hips and pistoning deeper.
âMy sweet mate,â he gasped at the skin of your throat, mouth tracing up to find yours, hands finding purchase on your thighs as he pulled you open, allowing him dive deeper. âMy darling love,â he moaned and his tongue moved with yours, your hips pushing up to meet his thrusts, walls fluttering against his velvet length with the remnants of your orgasm.Â
You ventured your hand up his shoulder to the base of a wing and traced your fingers up the membrane to the bone. His eyes twisted shut, and he keened a low primal whine that had your cunt ready to come again. At the tightening of your walls, he groaned dark and deep, shadows seeping from him, as he pushed in, grinding against the innermost portion of you. His hips pulled out slightly and then pushed back in as his cock kicked, come spurting against your walls. He panted against your throat as his hands released their hold on your thighs and moved up your body before grasping your throat. He moved up to lean over you and his eyes found your own. He gave an experimental thrust of his hips and your eyes widened. Fucking Cauldron, he was still hard.Â
He laughed then, nuzzling at your mouth as he nipped at your bottom lip. âIâm giving you five,â his voice was deeper than youâd ever heard it, âand then Iâm eating my come from your cunt and fucking you until the sun comes up.âÂ
You gasped out a laugh as your arms wrapped around his shoulders. âThey call it frenzy for a reason,â you thought, kissing along his cheekbone and to his mouth. Gods, you were fucked.Â
SV scenario where Shen Jiu is also Shen Yuan's Meimei.
Trans egg SJ never got to examine her gender identity very much in her first life. What with all the enslavement, abuse (given as well as received), misunderstandings, betrayals, dismemberment, and death, there was far too much for her to ever come to terms with a set of concepts she'd never really had the luxury to entertain. By the time Shen Jiu was a peak lord, the Shen Qingqiu persona was locked in, and any dreams of a different life or inclinations to the contrary of her role were ruthlessly quashed by SJ herself.
But when SJ finally dies and her soul is free to reincarnate (taking a few more memories than usual along for the ride), she has mixed feelings about being born as the youngest daughter of a wealthy family.
The mixed feelings don't actually last long, though after a while she starts to wonder why the fates would grant her a reprieve? Maybe remembering her past life is her punishment, because it's certainly the worst part of her new situation. Her parents are indulgent, her older brothers all dote on her and spoil her, and when she tests limits she's only gently rebuked if she gets rebuked at all. Not only is she allowed to wear fine dresses and look pretty, she's expected to (actually the expectation does chafe, a bit). But even when she uses foul language, skips classes, reads controversial books, and commits myriad other tiny rebellions, no real retribution ever comes of it.
Even despite everything, after some years Shen Jiu starts to become... not complacent, but perhaps calmer would be a better description. She has a stable future handed to her on a silver platter. Very few things remind her of her past, either. She can read books about snotty highborn lords getting railed by werewolves as readily as classics of literature or academic papers on science, business, culture, politics, or whatever else takes her fancy. Her family doesn't even put demands on her to marry, despite some of her mother's hints in that direction. For the first time, Shen Jiu has a life where it seems like she can't fail, she can only succeed however much she wants to. It's like having nowhere to go but up, except without the part about hitting rock bottom.
A foolish set of assumptions, in the end. There's always something to lose.
When Shen Yuan suddenly dies, Shen Jiu recognizes the sinister hand of the same entity which oversaw her own reincarnation. One which had visited her dreams quite recently, trying to tempt her back to her first life with offers of being able to change the past. It wasn't even difficult to deny it. Shen Jiu doesn't believe she could change what happened, and she doesn't really want to try. Her one regret is what happened to that person, the one who died so horribly while rushing to her rescue, and even that, she doesn't know how she would change (because she still doesn't know why he bothered in the first place).
But how dare the System God take the silliest and softest of her brothers to try and fix her accursed first life?! Luo Binghe will eat him alive! Cang Qiong will mistake him for a demon or a madman or worse, and throw him into some cell somewhere, if they don't just kill him outright!
Shen Meimei tries to negotiate with the System, but it tells her the window of opportunity for her to go back instead has passed. Smarmy piece of shit. There's nothing she can do without supernatural help, however, except bide her time and wait for another "window of opportunity". It's in the midst of this that she discovers PIDW, and its (terrible) account not only of the broad strokes of her first life and death, but of what came afterwards. That little beast really wrecked the world, huh? And all those women, too. She's never been more grateful to have not figured herself out in her first life. But at least with access to this information, she can try and prepare more. (She's suspicious of who actually wrote this account as well -- is Luo Binghe himself in this world? Better to leave it now, in that case, before he inevitably makes another bid for power and destroys everything in his wake all over again!)
When the System finally gives her an opportunity to go back (as herself, or rather "Bonus Epilogue Side Character -- Shen Qingqiu's Mysterious Little Sister!") she is braced for any number of outcomes. Shen Yuan could be dead. He could be imprisoned. He could have had his limbs all cut off. He could be stuffed into a pickle jar. He could be hiding or on the run somewhere. Hopefully, he'll be hiding behind that person, confused and distraught but still intact thanks to the sect leader's guilt-driven sense of obligation. Most likely if the same number of years have passed since Shen Yuan "left", he's already been destroyed by Luo Binghe and all Shen Jiu will be able to do is avenge him. But she has some ideas of how to kill the beast, so, she will.
Of course, what she finds is nothing she expected, and almost even worse.
Luo Binghe married her brother?!
Death is too good for him! Shen Jiu's going to skin him alive!!!
ŕ¨ŕ§ â kiki the cat (psh)
pairing. brothers best friend! park sunghoon x fem! reader genre. college au f2l fluff wc. 5410 notes. ft. hyung line & chaewon, profanity library.
synopsis. you've liked your brother jay's best friend since you were five. you now go to the same college and one night on the way to the store, you stumble across a kitten. you want to keep it but arenât allowed pets in the dorms. impulsively, you show up to sunghoon's apartment in hopes he'll let you keep it at his apartment for the rest of the semester.
JUST AS SUNGHOON SETTLED IN BED, SOMEONE RANG HIS DOORBELL.
he let out a loud groan, sitting back up and contemplating wether or not he was going to answer it.
maybe the person would leave him alone if he pretended he wasnât home. he was about to lay back down when he heard the doorbell being pushed five times in a row.
âhoon!!â a muffled voice called out to him, then doing your signature knock.
it was you. his best friend jayâs little sister, or as heeseung liked to call you: the original sunghoon fangirl.Â
as humble as sunghoon seemed to be, he could not ignore the line of girls who swooned over him on campus. as cliche as it is, it was true that many girls had eyes for him. they sized him up as either some untouchable god or a complete fuck boy.
but neither of those was true. you knew that best of course as the first girl to ever like sunghoon, or at least you hoped.Â
at the ripe age of five, you declared your and sunghoonâs marriage, or rather future marriage.
your eyes flickered over the three boys your brother brought home with him from school, eyes coming to a halt and staring a little too hard once they landed on sunghoon.
once your eyes landed on sunghoon you decided your search for a boyfriend was over, because the perfect one was sitting next to you in the back seat. all thanks to jay.
whispering to the older boy that when you grew up you would fall in love and get married. he awkwardly nodded, not wanting to upset you because his mother told him never to argue with younger kids as they get angry easily.Â
now at nineteen and twenty, you were still very adamant about your âpactâ. even though it was only a statement since sunghoon never verbally agreed.
over the years it had been an ongoing joke between him, jake, heeseung, and jay that you were the reason sunghoonâs relationships were never long term.
which of course wasnât fully true, but many girls just felt like he couldnât fully commit to them. though the problem never being you, since you avoided him at all costs when applicable.
sure, you were down horrendous for sunghoon and wanted to fight every girl that looked his way (because they didnât know him like you did), but when it came to his love life you never dared to interfere.
though when he was single, which was the majority of the time, you made constant remarks and jokes regarding your feelings for sunghoon. all four of them chalking them to be an âinside jokeâ since they believed you only said those things to honor five-year-old ____âs dream. they all even played into it.
unfortunately it wasnât a joke and you were undoubtedly in love with sunghoon.
of course, it was seemingly unrequited but you didnât let yourself fall into a pit of teenage angst. instead, you let your feelings stay the same, holding onto some hope and the fact that in college you could meet a guy who liked you as much as you liked sunghoon.
a year after jay and his friends graduated you had gotten accepted into the same college as sunghoon.Â
jay and his other friends going to a neighboring campus a forty-minute drive away.Â
following many extensive meetings with your guidance counselor, you and your mother decided it was the best fit for you.
though you couldnât deny that sunghoon being there was an added a bonus.
you texted him the night you had made your final decision, jokingly saying it was fate.Â
heâd liked the message, and for a few minutes didnât respond. you fell back on your bed in defeat, grabbing the nearest pillow and screaming into it.Â
your phone then pinged, sunghoon finally responding with a short âitâll be nice to have another familiar face aroundâ.Â
you felt a blush spreading on your cheeks and again reached for the same pillow to scream.Â
you and sunghoon had had semi matching contacts for each other ever since you had received your first phone. again he passed it off as a joke, while it fed into your delusions.
you had him saved as husband, while he had you saved as âself-proclaimed wife.â
youâd rather it just be wife, but it was a start.
though he had changed it every time he had a girlfriend which was understandable, but would always somehow remember to change it back when they broke up.
you hoped that it meant something.
now that you had settled in and been going to school with him for a year, the two of you had gotten closer. as you saw each other frequently, around school, or even on rare occasions when you hung out at his apartment when your brother came to visit.
you had finally gotten as close enough to sunghoon to where you could stop complaining over how he didnât like you and was content being a friend if anything.
IT ALL LED YOU TO BE OUTSIDE SUNGHOONâS DOOR AT ELEVEN AT NIGHT.
once heâd recognized your knock he got up and made his way to let you in. opening the door he felt an unfamiliar feeling bubbling up in his chest when he saw you in your pajamas cradling a baby cat in your arms staring up at him.
âwhoâs cat is that?â he made space for you to walk past him into his home, shutting the door.Â
âit can be ours.â you sat down on his couch.
âi was going to buy a small cake roll for my roommate because she had a bad day and then i got distracted and saw this cute little cat and sheâs allergic to cats so now iâm here because i want to keep it.â you rambled even more.
âdid you walk all the way here? didnât i tell you itâs not safe for you to be out alone after dark?â he scolded, sitting down in the empty spot next to you.Â
âdoes your roommate know you are here and did you bring the pepper spray jay gave you?âÂ
âyes hoon i did all of that! i just came here because you live off campus so youâre allowed to have pets here!â
âwhat if i donât want it ____? did you consider that?â
âyou canât say no to me, my birthday is coming up soon!â you sulked, holding the kitten out for him to see.Â
âhow do we even know that it doesnât have diseases..â he argued.Â
âbecause i found the nearest vet and we are taking it tomorrow!â you grinned. âcan we please keep her hoon? you know iâve always wanted a cat since we were kids!âÂ
he did know that. he remembered more things about you than you could ever imagine.
âwe can keep him for now but if the vet says otherwise we are releasing him,â he said sternly. âbut since you walked here i donât want you going back alone so youâre staying here.â
your heart fluttered at the fact you were going to get to sleep at his place for the first time without the presence of your older brother.Â
but that fluttering came to an abrupt stop right when he added âitâs what jay would wantâ.Â
he motioned for you to come with him to his room so you could both go to bed. you followed behind him still cradling the cat.
âwait hoon we need to feed her and give her a place to sleep!â you paused in your tracks.Â
he sighed but wordlessly went to his kitchen to get a small bowl of milk and an old blanket. He returned to the bedroom, settling the bowl onto the ground and making a makeshift bed for the baby kitten. he gently took the animal from your hands, setting it down on the floor, guiding it towards the milk.
you kneeled next to him watching the scene in front of you, eyes glimmering with envy for the cat at how gently sunghoon treated it.Â
he looked over at you already staring at him and smiled softly.
âwhat will we name it,â he asked you softly.
âi want to wait until we know if we can keep it.â
with that you both stood up, sunghoon letting you take his bed while he tried to prepare to sleep on the couch. which you quickly shut down, saying there was more than enough space left for him, which was true.
after bickering for five minutes about where sunghoon would sleep he finally caved and laid down on the empty spot of the bed, hoping jay would never hear of this. he would be teased till the ends of the earth.
âgoodnight ____,â he said from his side of the bed.
âgoodnight hoonie,â you yawned.Â
hugging a pillow you had put in between you two, you wished you didnât have to sleep and could embrace the only time you would ever be in this situation with him. but alas your eyelids betrayed you.Â
sunghoon struggled to fall asleep, extremely hyper-aware of the small proximity. right before he finally drifted off into slumber you mumbled a curt, âi love youâ in your sleep.Â
he knew he shouldnât assume that it was directed towards him and that you could very well just sleep talking. he told himself he shouldnât think so hard about what you said. though the warmth spread throughout his body begged to differ.
however, one thing he knew for sure was that wasnât going to fall asleep now.Â
YOU WOKE UP TO FIND SUNGHOON ALREADY STARING AT YOU.
you quickly shut your eyes again feeling like you were crazy, while sunghoon cleared his throat.
he immediately stood up, went to the corner where you had placed the cat the night before and brought it back to you on the bed. you sat up, resting your back on his headboard.
he wordlessly handed you the kitten so you could cuddle it. then reached over to unplug your phone from his charger and give it to you.
your screen was full of a myriad of messages from your roommate chaewon. from asking if you were okay staying at sunghoonâs, if you wanted her to pick you up, if the cat was cute, and more.Â
you hadnât checked your phone since getting here last night.Â
you told her you would tell her everything when you got home, not wanting to actively geek out about sunghoon while you were with him.Â
fifteen minutes later you ended up in the kitchen. making some pancakes for the both of you while sunghoon got ready.Â
âwhat time does the vet open?â he finally spoke up.
âlike twelve?â you replied. âyou mind dropping me off right?â
âiâm going with you ____, iâd like to be there if this cat is going to be living with me until you can figure out what to with it.â
âyouâre really going to let me keep her?âÂ
sunghoon swore your eyes were shining when you looked at him. he needed to take care of this cat for you.Â
since you had showed up last night with just your phone and kitten in hand, he needed to drive you to your dorm so you could get ready.Â
both of you quietly eating the chocolate chip pancakes you made and heading out to his car.
reaching your dorm, he unlocked the car waiting for you to get out, expecting to just wait in the car.
âare you not coming in?â you hopped down from the passenger's side.
âoh,â he started. âi wasnât sure if you wanted me to.â
âno, itâs okay! you let me sleep over and keep a cat soâŚâ
you both headed inside and took the stairs up to your room. sunghoon held the kitten while you unlocked the door. walking in you saw chaewon at her desk finishing up some assignments before her first class.
â____, i said no cat.â chaewon said bluntly.
âi thought you had class!â you defended yourself.
âi donât, and also the fur!â
âitâs fine, the cat is going to live with me,â sunghoon interjected.
chaewon finally registered you had brought someone with you. her eyes flickering between you and sunghoon.
âwell iâm leaving now,â she started collecting her stuff. âi do not want an allergic reaction so make sure to borrow hanniâs vacuum.â
âwhere are you going if you donât have class?â you sat down at your desk, directing sunghoon to sit on your bed.
âiâm going out with,â she coughed, not wanting to say the name out loud.Â
âoh my gosh really?â you stood up, shaking her by the shoulders.
âyes! she asked me to go downtown with her-â sneezing before finishing her sentence. she pushed you away due to you being covered in cat fur.
âoh sorry, have fun though! send me pictures! oh my gosh did she imply it was a date?â you rambled as she put on her shoes and rushed out the door.
âbye ____!â
âbye chae good luck!â
you turned back to sunghoon sitting on your bed, cuddling the cat while he scrolled on his phone. unconsciously breaking into a smile at the sight.
âhoon, what time is it?â you asked, looking through your drawers for something to wear.
â11:04â he looked up from his phone.
âokay, give me like 20 minutes.â taking steps towards the bathroom to wash your face and get changed. in a couple of minutes, your makeup was done and you informed sunghoon that you were ready to go.Â
THE KITTEN DID NOT HAVE ANY DISEASES.
sunghoon felt conflicted after getting the green light that the cat could be turned into a housecat after getting some vaccines. the veterinarian had suggested some food brands and tips on how to take care of the kitten, and before he knew it the appointment was over.
both silently entering the car. the car ride was silent. you sat there trying to figure out a name. sunghoon sat there wondering why his whole body had felt incredibly warm since you had shown up at his door last night.
he started going through a pros and cons list the entire drive home in his head.Â
the pro he kept coming back to was you would be over at his house more often.Â
but it felt weird to think of that as a pro. not because he wouldnât want you to spend time with more but because you were to put it simply, just jayâs little sister. so why did he catch himself stealing glances at you every time he reached a red light?
a quick trip to the pet store getting, a bed, bowls, canned cat food, and some small toys you insisted on getting. you quickly paid, not wanting sunghoon to since a small kitten now inhabited his house that he would now co-parent.Â
when getting back to his apartment the both of you set up the catâs stuff. staying for a while before chaewon came to drive you home.Â
âso, how was it?â she smirked, pulling out of the parking lot.
âi could ask you the same thing.â
looking down at your phone, it read: âsunghoon sent you money.â
sighing as he paid the exact amount as the receipt on your lap.
SUNGHOON WAS STARTING TO FEEL INSANE.
once he was alone in his apartment he texted jake. voicing his concerns but not name-dropping as jake would laugh in his face, telling him that he knew it was bound to happen sooner or later.
jake had quickly got fed up not knowing who sunghoon was talking about so he pressed the call button without hesitation. Â
âyou like ____ donât you,â jake giggled from the other side of the line. âi saw her post that cat you were describing.â
âi donât know!â sunghoon groaned. âi think i might, but sheâs jayâs little sister.â
âso what! she isnât your little sister! has jay has never told you she was off limits?â jake argued.
âno,â sunghoon mumbled. âbut you could have worded that better you know.â
âi mean there's something between yâall,â jake advised. âsheâs been in love with you since we were six.â
âsheâs just joking.â
âyeah and i can drive.â
âno, you canât-â
âiâm saying you're wrong and in denial..â the boy on the phone sighed. âhow about you see what happens while you take care of your new child.â
ânot my child.â sunghoon rolled his eyes.
âcat co-parent. gaeul would be furious.âÂ
gaeul would be if she could talk. sunghoon abruptly hung up. maybe he did like you to an extent, he was taking care of a cat for you for crying out loud.
THE NEXT TIME JAY AND JAKE CAME TO VISIT, SUNGHOON WAS UNDENIABLY ON EDGE.
for the past month you had frequented his apartment more than you could count on your fingers. coming after classes and staying until after dinner.Â
it was starting to feel so domestic, thinking about how this is what it could be like if you and sunghoon were dating. indulging on the fact this was the closest youâve ever been to him.
when jay saw the kitten sitting on your lap when he walked in the front door he thought he was seeing things. sunghoon had been an avid cat hater ever since his family got gaeul, and seeing that cat only further confirmed what jake had told him a couple of weeks back.
he was only waiting for sunghoon to come to him now.
âwhatâs its name?â jay asked, patting the gray cat on its head.
âher name is kiki!â you exclaimed. âyou are now an uncle, this is my daughter.â
âso is sunghoon the dad?â jake giggled mischievously.
âum.. well i mean iâve never asked?â
âi guess i am since sheâs with me almost 24/7â
â____ or the cat-â sunghoon muffled jake with a pillow.Â
THE SEMESTER WAS ENDING AND SUNGHOON STILL HADNâT TOLD YOU ABOUT HOW HE FELT.
the weeks full of rain soon turned into warm days. the tulips around campus had sprouted. an assortment of pink, blue, and purple flowers filling the grass. summer was right around the corner.Â
though spring and summer only meant one thing, finals.
sunghoon had not seen you for about a week at this point. his finals had been done for a couple of days while you had all of yours during the last stretch before break. he stayed home most of the time thinking about how he could confess to you.Â
from the time you had spent together, his apartment was your second home.
he didnât realize the sense of normalcy having you around provided until you could no longer stay with him and kiki.
kiki had been doing great. she was no longer the scrawny little kitten she first was. she had healthily gained some pounds through her recommended diet, slowly warming up to sunghoon more as his only roommate.
sunghoon had given you a copy of his key so you could come while he was gone to spend time with kiki whenever you pleased.
his favorite sight to come home to was seeing you and kiki snuggled up on his bed sound asleep. sometimes he would even join you two. you intentionally never slept in the dead middle of his bed, always leaving room for him in case he came home, not wanting to be a bother if he also felt tired and wanted to lay down.
but as the semester came to an end, he knew that you would soon be able to buy an apartment and take the cat for yourself.
he couldnât stand thinking of you not being there when he got home nine times out of ten.
he wished that he could just wake up one day from one of your afternoon naps with you snuggled up against him.Â
SUNGHOON WAS TOTALLY FUCKED.
finals were over. sunghoon had procrastinated to the very last second, and now you were on your way to pick up kiki and head home for the summer.
if he couldnât just get it out today once you walked in the door he would genuinely go insane.Â
he had gone through a practice confession three times last night with jake on call. jay refused to sit and listen to it, but he did give sunghoon the go that he trusted him with his sister.Â
he was pacing around his living room, failing miserably to calm his nerves.
âkiki what if your mom doesnât like me back?â he knelt in front of the couch, the kitten becoming eye level with him. she got closer to sunghoon and sat in front of him, meowing as if she was responding.
âyea i hope so too, i donât want you to become a child of divorce.â sunghoon sighed, stroking kiki on her head.Â
âhoon why are you talking to the cat..â you spoke up, sunghoon being too immersed in his conversation with kiki to notice the door being unlocked.
âoh hi ____,â sunghoon stood back up, scratching his neck and facing you.
âhi hoon,â you took off your jacket and shoes. âare you okay hoon? you look a little warm.â
âno iâm not! um i mean i am but-â he tripped over his words. âi donât even know anymore.â
âdo you need anything?â you walked up to him, feeling his forehead.
âno, but can we talk?â he sat down on the couch, he gestured for you to sit down next to him, kiki climbed into your lap.
sensing the awkward tension in the room, you also began to feel worried. sunghoon looked undeniably nervous which then rubbed off on you.
what if he found out you liked him, that the ongoing joke was never a joke in the first place?Â
âiâm going to say something,â he shakily breathed out. âand i want you to listen to it all before considering hitting me or something.â
âokay,â you nodded. âshould i be scared?â and awkwardly laughed.Â
âtrust me iâm more scared than you.â
yo moved so that you were fully facing him, letting kiki down from your lap so she could roam and not interrupt. tilting your head to connect your eyes with his and give him your full attention. which was never hard for you since you stared at his face often. he cleared his throat and mirrored your actions, now face-to-face with no distractions.
âi practiced this but i think i might just wing it.â he started, avoiding eye contact.Â
âi like coming home to you and kiki asleep on my bed, i like how you leave a spot for me on the bed even if you donât notice it,â you felt like you were dreaming, watching all the words seventeen-year-old you yearned to hear before he left for college leave his lips.Â
âi like how i was the first person you came to with kiki when you have plenty of other friends who live off campus, i like how youâve never been shy to show you like me ever since we were kids,â he grabbed your hands, and you felt your stomach churn.Â
âi like you ____.â he breathed out, searching for any sign of return of feelings.Â
you felt like you were going to collapse. your clothes starting to feel like millions of layers of itchy fabric. the collar on your shirt felt tight around your neck. the room began to appear extremely fuzzy, with complete silence, only accompanied by the pounding in your head.Â
desperately trying to find words but they failed to come up in your head, and your mouth was muted.
â____? iâm sorry, please say something.â sunghoon worried, feeling you grip his hand tighter.Â
âoh my god i thought you were going to tell me that you donât want to help with kiki anymore because she gonna live with me now.â you let out the breath you were holding.
âwhy would i do that?â he asked in a confused tone.
âi donât know it must be annoying having your best friend's little sister come over every day to check on her cat,â you replied. âyou probably couldnât have any girls over.â
âi donât need any girls over but you,â he relaxed back on the couch.
âyouâre so cheesy,â you elbowed him. âi like you too, i think everyone knows.â copying him you sunk into the couch cushion and leaned on his shoulder.
âis jay going to kill you now?â you turned your head towards the black-haired boy next to you.
âyou underestimate me,â he said, resting his head on yours. âi asked him three months ago!â
âyouâve liked me for three months now?â eyes threatening to fall out of their sockets.
he grabbed you by your waist and brought you into his lap. resting his forehead on your head and inhaling your strawberry shampoo.Â
âwell came to terms with it..â he mumbled into your hair.
âi win! Iâve liked you since i was five.â
âi know, but i was in denial since we joked so casually about it.â
kiki hopped up onto the couch, making herself comfortable in your lap. purring as you gazed down on her and stroked her fur. you smiled, finally, your dreams were semi-true. you had a kitten and sunghoon all to yourself. you were starting to feel your eyes burn.Â
âkiki you will not be a child of a divorce!â sunghoon told the kitten, bringing his free arm around to pet the small cat.
the thought of you not seeing sunghoon now that youâd be able to take kiki off his hands if he hadnât confessed made the stinging in your eyes turn into small water droplets. the tiniest tear sliding down your right cheek was enough for you to turn your head away as far as possible to wipe the stray tear.
sunghoon noticed immediately, cupping your face and bringing it towards him.
âew sorry iâm being dramatic,â you sniffled, avoiding his eyes by putting your hand in front of your eyes.
âno youâre not,â he wiped some stray tears. âbut why are you crying?â
âi donât know! iâm just feeling a little overwhelmed..âÂ
âi know i have that effect on people,â sunghoon joked, planting a kiss on your cheek, resulting in you taking kiki and jumping off his lap. âwhere are you going?âÂ
he watched you take the gray kitten and make a run for it to his room, trying to shut the door on him. standing up simultaneously and chasing after you, blocking you from closing the door with his left arm.Â
putting kiki on her bed, you flopped onto sunghoons bed and slipped underneath the duvet. sunghoon follows after you, but not before approaching the cat in the corner of the room, muttering a quick goodnight like he did every night. he never knew he would like having a cat this much, but it being your idea gave some bias.
it wasnât the first time youâve slept over at sunghoonâs house, but it was the first time falling asleep in his arms.Â
YOU WOKE UP TO THE LOUD VOICES IN THE KITCHEN.
sunghoon had forgotten that jay and jake would be there in the morning the next day, but he wasnât expecting to hear his doorbell ring at nine. he gently slid his arms out from underneath you and let them in.
âwhy are you guys here so earlyâ he squinted, rubbing his eyes.
âwhy were you still asleep? i told you nine,â jay said, walking straight to the kitchen.
âbecause ____ is still asleep.â sunghoon retorted.
ânot anymore,â you yawned from the corridor, walking closer to greet your brother. you gave him a brief hug before moving onto to sleepily bury your face in sunghoonâs chest.
âgross. it's already started,â jake made a face of disgust, laying his head flat on the dining room table.
âhi to you too jake.â you looked up and waving at him.
jay had made the four of you breakfast and gave you both a whole speech about how he would do very bad things if sunghoon were to mess things up with you. also going into depth about things that made jake stuff his mouthful of food and cover his ears. you wished you did the same.
perhaps the nearly sixteen years of pining for your older brother's best friend was worth it.
BUT ONE THING YOU DID KNOW FOR SURE WAD THAT YOU NEEDED TO CALL YOUR MOTHER.
kiki's first birthday! (extra)
the apartment was decorated, maybe even over-decorated. pink and yellow streamers going from one side of the kitchen to the other. hanging from the ceiling was a string of letters reading âhappy first birthday kikiâ in pink letters.Â
âhoon!â you came in from the front door holding a cake. âyou bought candles right?â
âyup!â sunghoon walked over to you from his spot in the kitchen.
he took the cake, giving you a quick peck. you trailed behind him admiring his decoration skills. sunghoon placed the cake on the dining table and opened the lid. inside the white box was a small white cake, piped with pink icing, and writing that matched the banner.Â
you took the candles from the kitchen counter and took the cake out. then placed the number one candle on the center back.Â
both of you admiring the cake, before being interrupted by a ring on the doorbell.
leaving sunghoon in the kitchen, you opened the door. chaewon greeted you on the other side with a small present wrapped in white paper. she also held a mini headband small enough for kiki to wear. though you werenât sure if you would even get it on kiki.
âi got the birthday girl something to wear!â the blonde-haired girl grinned, waving around the headband.Â
she walked inside and set the present on the coffee table and walked over to kiki resting on the floor. chaewon sat down beside the kitten, pulling out a mask, glasses, and gloves from her bag. she put them on skillfully and quickly.
you and sunghoon shared a glance and let out laughs.
âhey! you canât blame me for wanting to be safe.â chaewon huffed and crossed her arms.Â
following after was another sound from the door. rather than ringing the doorbell jake opted on forcefully banging on the doors like a maniac. causing all three of you to roll your eyes. sunghoon taking one for the team, walked up to the door, and let the three guys outside in.Â
âhi guys!â jake smiled, carrying his present for the cat unwrapped. âi couldnât find a bag sorry..â
jay and heeseung following closely behind, heeseung with a pale blue bag, and jay with nothing.
âwhy didnât you bring your niece a gift?â you chided your empty handed older brother.
âiâm bringing her on a shopping spree!â jay picked up the cat, spinning her around. âiâm the best uncle ever!â
âshe canât go out in public,â sunghoon deadpanned.
âiâm bringing you two on a shopping spree!â jay corrected himself, sitting down on the smaller couch.
âwhy is the girl on the couch suited up like someone is sick..â heeseung whispered to you.Â
âthatâs chaewon,â you whispered back. âsheâs allergic to cats.â
an hour later you found yourselves in the kitchen surrounding the cake and wearing party hats. you holding kiki in your arms while sunghoon held the cake in front of the gray kitten. just as you predicted, kiki put up a fight while you tried to coerce her into wearing the party chaewon bought. resulting in some scratched littered around your arms.
after singing happy birthday you held kiki in front to blow out the candles from behind her.Â
sunghoon and you were glad that it was kikiâs birthday. more like the anniversary of the day you had brought her home, but birthday sounded better. the day finally arrived and you were relieved, as you had avoided cutting her nails for a week so she could go crazy when opening her presents.Â
she received a mouse toy from chaewon, some oddly expensive cat food from heeseung, and a plushie that eerily resembled gaeul a lot.
once everything was done and everyone was ready to leave, jay shouted that he would send sunghoonâs mom the pictures to show gaeul.Â
you were to blame for sunghoonâs one-sided beef with the whole cat population for no particular reason finally coming to an end.
Of Lions and Mice
Leona Kingscholar x Reader
Reader is intended to be female
Masterlist
Leona was annoyed.
Once again, his golden goody-two-shoes older brother decided to shirk his responsibility of being a father and dump the overexcited, disgustingly bright-eyed crown prince on him for the day. And not only that, it had to be today of all days - a rare day where you were free from picking up Crowleysâ slack, where the loudmouthed, nattering extras that always followed you were otherwise preoccupied (and bribed to bugger off with a bag full of tuna), where he was certain heâll spend the day in bed with you right next to him.Â
But no. Just like with everything else in his miserable existence, his dreams were crushed and he had to spend the day playing caretaker to his nephew instead of wrapped up with you. Whatâs worse was that, youâd decided to carry the pint-sized load off of his back and gave your undivided attention to the cub when it should have been rightfully his. How he hated that selfless nature of yours, that sweet, caring, gentle nature that would make you look at anyone that wasnât him with that loving gaze, that would make you brush your fingers through Chekaâs golden orange curls the same way you would Grimâs fur or the stray cats youâd find around campus or any other being instead of his mane.Â
He hated just how loving you were, how your eyes could see the beauty in everything.
How, now that itâs late at night, and heâs closed his eyes and pretended to sleep in his attempt to actually get some shut eye and so that the little hairball would quit bothering him but Cheka just continues yapping.
Even in the darkness under his eyelids, he could feel you cast a worried look his way from the spot where his bed sags a little.
âHey Cheka,â your sweet, dulcet voice (which is currently being used to please his nephew and not sooth him to sleep with the sweet nothings it usually does) pipes up, âhow about I tell you a bedtime story from my world?â
âA bedtime story?!â Wow, even with his eyes closed he could see the stars coming out of his nephew's eyes, âyes please!â
Once the little cub has settled into bed, he asks you, âdo you know any stories from your world with lions in them?
âAny ones with lions? Hmm, well, I suppose I could tell you about Narnia but I think you might be a bit too young for that and - wait,â you punctuated your words with a snap of your fingers, âI know a short one. There was this man called Aesop who wrote these short stories called fables.â
âWhatâs a fable?â Cheka asked, his words covered in that innocently curious lilt that all six year olds seemed to have during every occasion Leona wished they wouldnât - and that was all of them.
You, however, seemed to have much more patience than him, âA story with a moral in them. Like, always be honest, or share, or work together, that sort of thing. I had a book of them when I was younger and I really enjoyed reading them.â
Figures. Of course, the shining beacon of sickeningly polite goodness grew up with such stories. He wouldâve teased you for that but he had a child who heâs still trying to convince he was asleep.
âThat sounds so cool, Aunty Y/N! Will you tell me more?â
âOf course, I will,â he can hear your smile, âbut Iâll tell you them later, okay. Now, itâs time for you to rest.âÂ
âOkay, Aunty Y/N.â
âAlright so,â you clear your throat, âthere was once a lion that lay asleep in his den. A shy little mouse came upon him and in her fright she ran away, only whilst doing so she accidentally ran over his head, waking him up.â
âOh no,â Cheka gasped, âthat lion is going to be so angry if he wakes up.â
Oh, so the little hairball does have a brain after all.Â
âYouâre right. Furious that he had been woken up, the big lion slammed a paw down on the tiny mouse and grabbed her by the tail. Holding her up, he growled at her,â here you made your voice noticeably deeper, trying to imitate a gruff growl, ââHow dare you wake me up! I am the king of beasts and anyone who interrupts my slumber deserves to die! I shall kill you and eat you!ââ
It took everything within Leona to not burst into laughter at your adorable imitation of a âbig scary lionâ. Itâs a voice youâve used before whenever you tease him, playfully repeating the words his old self would have said to you, and itâs one that heâs rather fond of.Â
He loves and respects you, Herbivore, and heâs the first to attest to your formidability and capability - even though you have the annoying tendency to not only blur the line between bravery and reckless stupidity but also play skipping rope with it - but intimidating you are not.Â
âThis scared the terrified mouse even more. Shaking with fear, she begged for him to let her go,â you make your voice higher at this part, squeaking in a way that oddly suited you, in Leonaâs not so humble opinion, ââplease, your majesty, I beg of you, please donât eat me. It was only a mistake and if you let me go Iâll be sure to repay you. If you spare my life one day, I might even save yours.ââ
âThe lion looked at the tiny creature and laughed, amused at how such a small mouse could ever be of use to an animal as powerful as him, âYou? Save me? How absurd. Youâve made me laugh and put me in a good mood so I shall be generous and let you go.â
âThank you, your majesty, thank you,â the mouse squeaked as she was put back on the ground, before scurrying away as fast as fast as her little legs could carry her.â
âYay, so the mouse is free.â Cheka giggled.
âHe is,â you said, âbut thereâs still more left. A few days later, the lion was prowling around when out of nowhere he was caught in a hunterâs net. Try as he might, he couldnât get out of it. He tossed and turned, roaring angrily as he struggled to escape.â
âWait, so now the lionâs in trouble. Howâs he going to get out?â Cheka asked in worry.Â
âYouâll see. Hearing his cries, the mouse followed the sound, recognising it from the lion he met earlier.
âI have to help him,â she squeaked as she scampered towards him.â
Upon seeing the lion in the net, she said, âhold still your majesty, Iâll get you out!â
And she quickly started to nibble on the ropes with her sharp little teeth, biting until all they broke apart. It wasnât long until the lion was free.â
âSo the mouse saved him. Was it because the lion helped him earlier?â
âIt certainly was Cheka. âThank you, little mouse,â the lion said, âI laughed at you and didnât think you could ever help me but you saved my life.â
âIt was my turn to help you.â The mouse replied, ânever forget that even a creature as small as a mouse can help a lion.â
And thatâs the end,â you say.
âThank you, Auntie Y/N, I really enjoyed that. Do you think the lion and mouse became friends after that?â
âYou are very welcome, Cheka. I think they did. They did help each other, after all. Now I think itâs time to go to sleep.â
And once you were sure that the crown prince was asleep, you made your way next to your boyfriend, running your fingers through chestnut locks, âdid you enjoy that little story, Leona.â
He opens his eyes to see your endeared smile. Rolling over so that he could wrap his arms around your waist he muses, âit seems awfully familiar donât you think? A scared little herbivore wakes up a sleeping lion and ends up saving him later.â
âIâll have you know, Your Highness, that I was never scared of you. Even when you were a rude old brute who threatened to knock out one of my teeth. And Iâm certainly not little.â
âYeah, yeah, whatever you say.âÂ
He pulls, letting you flop down on his bed beside him so that he can spoon you.
âSweet dreams, little mouse,â he kissed your forehead, âI hope you know that I donât ever intend on letting you go. Not after you helped in ways you could never even imagine.â
And so the lion fell asleep, holding the prey who rescued him from the confinement of his past safely in his arms.
Slashers S/O falling asleep on them
A/N: Just a quick little drabble of me fantasizing about our favourite slashers. I am still working through requests so please don't think I am ignoring you guys! They are coming :)
Billy Loomis
¡ Billy isnât sure how to react at first, if you are around people sorry but heâs not going to tarnish his reputation with these soft moments. But if you're alone he will be conflicted.
¡ Heâs not used to soft moments and he likes to be in control of any affection. He tries to keep it light like hand holding or sexual to try and keep you at a distance. So, this makes him sort of short circuit.
¡ Once he decides to allow it, it takes him a while but he does eventually relax into the embrace. He hates to admit that it is comforting, you make him feel secure and that worries him.
¡ He probably wonât sit for too long and may move eventually, he wonât disturb you but will leave you on the couch to rest.
Bo Sinclair
¡ Bo will never ever admit to this but he loves your soft affection, even if itâs only when you're asleep that he embraces it. He will pull you closer to him and wrap his arm around you. Itâs the time he will let his guard down and let himself truly feel.
¡ If his brothers walk in heâs going to act like itâs a hassle, but even they know he doesnât really mean it. Will also probably whine at you about it later.
¡ Bo loves you but he wonât admit that yet, even if you question it sometimes just know that you donât get to see the way he looks at you like you're his world, or how your cute sleepy expression grips his heart. Itâs these times where he thinks maybe he should be nicer to you, itâs now when he realises that he needs you even if heâs not ready to admit that.
Jason Voorhees
¡ Jason will not move a muscle if you fall asleep on him, you may as well be leaning on a comfier version of a statue. He wouldnât do anything to wake you up.
¡ Barely breathes in fear or disturbing you. This man adores you and if you need sleep you're going to get it.
¡ If there are any trespassers he is going to be even more brutal than usual, how dare they disturb this intimate moment with his loved one. He lays you down as gently as he can, lucky you're a heavy sleeper.
¡ Jason will make quick work of the trespassers so he can get back to you, sure you may wake up with some leftover blood on you but itâs all worth it in the end to be in Jasonâs arms.
Jesse Cromeans
¡ Jesse gets a small smirk on his face when he realises youâve fallen asleep in his lap while heâs completing some paperwork. He will hold you while he works, occasionally stroking your hair and placing his chin on your head.
¡ You seem so small buried into his chest, it reminds Jesse how delicate you are and how protective he is of you to keep you here with him.
¡ Jesse is a busy man so its highly likely that he will end up having some sort of work that pulls him away from this intimate moment. He will carry you with ease to your bed and cover you in blankets to keep you warm until he can return.
¡ Wonât leave without placing the gentlest of kisses to your forehead and watching you snuggle in.
Lester Sinclair
¡ Lester is a busy man, he loves your affections but try to catch him when it wonât interfere with his day or piss Bo off. He will put your affections first and that can often get him in trouble with his brother.
¡ This man is the cutest cuddle bug, he will hold you for as long as you want. Will wrap you up in his arms and put a movie on, he is definitely the most chill out of the slashers when it comes to this kind of affection.
¡ Expect him to occasionally cover your face in soft kisses, the small smile it puts on your face gives him the cheesiest grin. Part of him wants you to hurry up and wake up so he can give you more affection, but donât worry he wouldnât dream of waking you.
¡ Lester cherishes you and when you wake up still in his arms expect to give him all of your attention for a while.
Michael Myers
¡ Do you like sleeping on the floor? Because thatâs where you will end up if you fall asleep on Michael when heâs not in a very good mood. Heâs an asshole. He does love you, but you donât get to be affectionate without his approval when heâs in this kind of mood.
¡ If you catch him on a good day he will simply let you rest against him, most likely sitting still and watching you sleep.
¡ He thinks you're naïve to trust him when you're in such a vulnerable state, how he could hurt you at any moment. He likes to pretend that he could but you both know he would never do anything to hurt you. Not now that he had let you in.
¡ If you wake up to his head resting against yours as you both find comfort in the slight affection he will jump up and storm off as soon as he notices you're awake. Donât bring it up unless you want him to pout for a while or threateningly glare at you from across the room. He will pretend it never happened.
Stu Macher
¡ Stu had always been a night owl, and it didnât help he spent a lot of his nights out with Billy.
¡ You would wait up for him a lot at his place, flicking through the channels of the tv and waiting for that familiar click of the front door. He would instantly come and join you, arms open and waiting. He always missed touching and holding you.
¡ Would probably ramble on and not realise you were sleeping until he notices you arenât answering him anymore. The cheesy smile this boy gets when he realises you're asleep.
¡ He will probably just watch you for a while, moving the hair out of your face.
¡ Stu is the type of guy to draw on peopleâs faces while they sleep, but with you he will just gently trace your features or draw small love hearts with his finger, laughing quietly to himself as your nose crinkles at the feeling.
¡ He wouldnât move you, he loves holding you in his arms, keeping you close to him. Will for sure tease you about it later though.
Thomas Hewitt
¡ Thomas just melts when he feels your head rest against him. He knows how tiring it can be working in the heat, so he will let you rest for as long as you need to.
¡ He will blush if anyone else sees the two of you, but heâs still not moving.
¡ Thomas could hold you like this forever, but he worries that the couch isnât the comfiest place to spend the night so he will carry you upstairs to your room, this man just wants what is best for you. He tries his best to be as gentle as possible when he lays you down, not wanting to wake you.
¡ He stands up to leave but notices you clinging to his shirt, the crinkle in your brow showing you're clearly not happy with the loss of contact. He lets out a husky huff before climbing into bed next to you, he melts under your touch and the thought that even in your sleep you need his touch.
Vincent Sinclair
¡ He stills immediately when he feels the contact. Vincent loves you so much but heâs not sure he will ever get used to the physical affections.
¡ When he realises youâve fallen asleep on him his heart swells. You better believe this boy will not move an inch, your comfort is his entire priority. He will be dead still until you wake up, would not dream of disturbing you.
¡ Will definitely watch you sleep, he feels like he needs to commit every single line of your face to memory. Not only will he want to sketch you later on but the fear of you leaving still weighs heavily on him and he needs to make sure he would remember every detail of you.
¡ Itâs like you can feel him staring when you shuffle closer to him and mumble his name, he instantly melts. He pulls you closer, reassuring you that heâs still there. Heâs not going anywhere, he will always be there.
đđ˛â Ö´ÖśÖ¸ ŕšđ âᥣđŠ"guilty as sin?" ᥣđŠâŕšđÖ´ÖśÖ¸ ŕšâđ˛đ
pairing: Jacaerys Velaryon x fem!Reader
words: 5800
summary: You always thought Jace could not be in love with you, his best friendâs little sister, but a dramatic incident during one of Creganâs house parties reveals the truth.
warnings: modern au, pining, not so unrequited love, reader is Creganâs little sister and a huge bookworm, Jace is Creganâs best friend, fluff and falling in love, angst (mentions of childhood trauma/almost drowning), hurt/comfort, first kiss
a/n:Â i fought for my life uploading this via my phone, all the formatting from google docs went wooosh haha. Just a little something and different from what I wrote for Jace so far <3 The pool scene is inspired by the Maxton Hall series - if you watched it, youâll know why ;)Â
-â Ë・âਠâď¸đđ¤ŕ§â Ë・â
Your brother Cregan had met a new friend, during one of his vacations with his boys. Someone had asked the curly haired boy if he wanted to join and just like that, Jacaerys had become Creganâs friend.
It was easy like that, sometimes.
But when your brother brought Jace over for the first time and you were reading in the living room, deeply lost in your book and not prepared for visitors, things quickly got much more complicated.
He was cute and completely unaware of it as you shook hands and he gave you an adorable smile that made you weak in the knees.Â
In the beginning, you thought he was like a ghost in your home, only appearing from time to time and briefly, but always leaving goosebumps on your skin when he shyly waved at you. Just his sight alone was enough to make you want to bury your face in your book. You wanted to become his friend, too. Until you wanted to be more than that.
And over the months, their duo became a trio as you joined them more and more often, curled up on your brotherâs bed as he and Jace played a video game or going out with them for food or random drives.
You laughed together - it was so so easy to laugh with Jace - and you got to know him better when he told you about his big family and how nice it was to retreat into your quieter familyâs house sometimes.
You caught yourself watching him more and more when no one was looking, daydreaming about what itâd be like to be close to him, to kiss his pouty lips and be his girlfriendâŚ
But you were a trio now and you two were only connected by your older brother in the end.
But god, how inevitably you had fallen for Jacaerys, how impossible it was to forget about these desires.
â§âË âď¸â
âĄđđĽ ࣪ Ö´ÖśÖ¸.
It didn't take long until Jacaerys followed you into your dreams.Â
When you were sleeping, especially after you had read a couple pages of your favorite romance novels, he came to you, surrounded by smoke and fog. And for only a short lived dream, you could see each other together, doing things you wouldn't dare to think about during the day.
It was maddening and perfect and everything you wanted, but when you woke up, you were alone still.
You stared at the ceiling of your room, sighing deeply. Tucking your favorite stuffed animal, a small wolf with spotted fur, back under your blanket, you slid out of bed, in need of a distraction from fantasizing about kissing your brother's best friend.
You tiptoed down the staircase, silently slipping into the kitchen and feeling around the wall for the lightswitch.Â
"Don't get scared, I'm here." A soft voice came from the darkness and as you switched the light on, you spotted Jacaerys sitting at the kitchen table.Â
His hair looked disheveled from sleeping and he wore a long shirt and boxers, sheepishly looking at you with his phone in his hands.
Your hand itched to tuck a loose curl behind his ear for him.
âWhat are you doing awake?â You whispered, shuffling closer and rubbing your eyes with a yawn.
âI could ask you the same thing.â He smiled warmly at you, shrugging.
âI live here and I wanted a midnight snack.â You gave back. You rarely were alone with Jace lately, he and Cregan seemed to have reached a new stage in their friendship where it wouldnât have surprised you if your older brother took his favorite Velaryon to the bathroom with him. âIs Cregan snoring?â
Jace chuckled quietly. âNo. I just wanted to check my phone in case my cousin Rhaena texted me. My brothers are on a little trip with her and I want to make sure theyâre okay and not homesick. They seem fine though, she sent me a picture of them eating ice cream earlier.â
Your chest ached funnily at the way he talked so lovingly about his family. But you knew Creganâs habit as the oldest son all too well, needing to make sure you were okay all the time and you didnât miss the way Jace smiled sadly at the picture on his phone after showing it to you.
âI bet they have the most amazing time and canât wait to tell you all about it once theyâre back.â You assured him and before you would have thought twice about it, you reached out and squeezed his shoulder. Your touch lingered, just a little moment too long and your eyes met.Â
Your breath hitched at his dark eyes on yours, shimmering in the soft kitchen light. You were both barefoot, in your sleeping clothes and your hair was open and uncombed and your heart was way too open for this time of the night.
You heard him exhale softly as you drew your hand back, feeling as if you had burned yourself. But why did you want to throw yourself wholly into his flames then?
âWould you like a chocolate milk?â You offered, the moment between you vanished. âIt always helps me get back to sleep again.â
Jace furrowed his brows. âCreganâs crazy for them too. He told me earlier youâre out of any chocolate milk.â
You grinned knowingly, walking past him and illuminating yourself in the cold light of the open fridge. âYeah, thatâs because he doesnât suspect me hiding them behind the healthy stuff he avoids.â
Brushing past your yogurts and meal preps for your summer job, you produced two small milk cartons, shaking them victoriously.Â
Jace grinned at you and it only made you a little bit weak in the knees. "You're brilliant."
"I'm trying to survive with my vacuum cleaner of a hungry brother." You joked and handed him a carton, the two of you content as you began to sip on the sweet chocolate milk.
Under the soft light of the kitchen lamp, Jace and you forgot about time as you shared whispered stories with each other, your drinks soon becoming empty and replaced by new ones.
His gentle and unhurried words were good at calming down your entire body and soon, you felt your eyes drooping.
"I think we should both go back to bed now." Jace whispered. "I told Cregan we'll go play some basketball tomorrow morning and I want to beat him."
You laughed at the thought of your giant of a brother going up against Jacaerys. "Well, good luck to you."
With a tiny yawn, you stood up and smiled at him once again. "Thank you for the conversation, Jace. Sleep well."
"Goodnight." Jace said softly and for a moment, you lingered in the doorway, imagining if you weren't leaving. Imagining the two of you, him with you in his lap, pulling you closer as you kissed.
But you could dream about these things.
With one last smile, you left him, although your heart ached to stay with him for just a little longer.
âĄđ ࣪ Ö´ÖśÖ¸đ.
One afternoon, you were reading by the pool in the backyard.Â
You had just come back after your shift at your holiday job, helping out in a little bookshop downtown, and were now ready to relax all day.
On a small table next to your sun lounger stood a carafe of freshly pressed lemonade and the bookish harvest of the day, ready to be devoured by you until the sun went down.
The garden gate by the house rattled and you looked up, your hands nearly forgetting to put a bookmark between the pages as you spotted Jace letting himself in.Â
Your mouth went dry at his appearance, dark sunglasses holding back his curls, his white shirt a stark contrast against them. Illuminated by your kitchen lights or the sun itself, it didn't seem to matter for him.Â
He was so pretty, it almost made you want to look away, but you couldn't. You never could. And wasnât this the root of the problem?
You swallowed against the dryness in your throat. âHey.â
âHi.â He smiled sheepishly at you before he looked up to Creganâs window. âCregan is not home yet?â
You shook your head. âNope. Itâs just me right now. Should I tell him you stopped by?â
He scratched his neck, a little helpless. âUmâŚif itâs okay, I could stay and wait for him? I like spending time with you, too, if thatâs alright.â
You wanted to bury your face in your hands and giggle like stupid. You didnât. âYes, of course, no worries. Would you like a lemonade?â
Jace gratefully took the glass from your hands, your knuckles brushing against one another. âThanks. You can continue reading if you want, just act like Iâm not here.â
You thought about the steamy chapter you had just begun reading and considered your options. If you read, it was like every character the narrator was in love with became Jace. In your head, you two had already kissed and made love a thousand times like this. If you continued reading those longing and hot scenes with Jace so close to you, you were afraid youâd actually implode.
You watched him closely as he sat down by the edge of the pool, abandoning his shoes so he could dangle his long legs into the water.
The words in front of you melted together on the page, making it impossible to continue reading when he was so close to you.
Shifting on your sunchair, you allowed yourself to simply look at Jace who tilted back his head, closing his eyes against the sun and appreciating the quietness of the backyard. You wanted to go to him and kiss him on the lips. You wanted to go inside and splash very cold water on your face to stop these thoughts from happening.
âYou know, I never see you swimming in here.â Jacaerys looked at you curiously, eyes scrunched together a little from the sun and probably the fact he was not wearing his contacts.Â
You shrugged, a little shy out of the sudden. âI used to, when I was younger. ButâŚnot anymore.â
âWhat happened?â Jace looked at you, curious yet a little worried.You tried to shrug it off, only to realize there was no shame in you when you talked to him. He waited for you, patiently so, but somehow you knew he wouldâve let it go if you wanted it.
âWe were on vacation once, Cregan, Sara and I, with our parents.â You told him and in your mind you could see the three of you playing together in the garden, your brother giving you a piggyback ride as Sara laughed in delight. âI wanted to go swimming in the morning, but no one was awake yet, so I snuck out. I just couldnât wait to get into the pool. But I underestimated how deep it was and I couldnât hold myself up well enough thenâŚCregan had woken up when he heard me leave and found me. I scared everyone, but I was okay, just coughed up some water and was shocked at my own boldness. Ever since, the pool and I are not really on good terms.â
Jacaerys looked at you, eyes filled with consternation and empathy. âIâm sorry you had an experience like this. That mustâve been very scary.â
You looked at him with surprise, but there were no jokes in him, only sympathy. âIt was, but itâs okay. I wasâŚsix, I think, so itâs long behind me.â
âThis whole pool is a waste if you canât enjoy it.â Jace tried to lighten the mood and as always, his playful tone lured a smile out of you. A certain sparkle danced through his eyes and you knew whatever came next could not be taken seriously: âWhat would you like to have instead of it? A garden library maybe, for all your books? Maybe I can convince Cregan to cement the pool shut once your parents are gone next weekend.â
You laughed, a warm rush blossoming through you at the mention of your own little library. He knew how much you read and he had no clue you were seeing him in every love interest of your cheesy romance novels⌠âI bet my parents would love that and totally notâŚmurder us once theyâre back.â
As you laughed together, the small weight on your chest lifted itself and the memory from your story faded again, nothing but a distant thought of the past.Â
Cregan came home a little later and as he and Jace left to go up into his room, the two of you smiled at each other one last time, as if you were sharing a secret no one knew but you now.
â§âË âď¸â
âĄđ ࣪ Ö´ÖśÖ¸đż.
It was getting late, but Tuesday was movie night and neither of the three of you wanted to pull out of it first.Â
Cregan, Jace and you had pushed the couch table to the side and splayed blankets and pillows all over the carpet earlier.
To our feet was the rest of your movie snacks, but only a half-full bowl of popcorn remained which you passed back and forth from time to time.
When Cregan had suddenly not grabbed the bowl from you anymore, you and Jace had shared a knowing look.
Your brother was snoring softly, his head tilted back and arms entwined in front of his broad chest. He was out cold, completely oblivious to the movie still running quietly on the TV screen.
But you and Jace were still awake.
And out of the sudden you realized that you had never sat so close to each other. Your shoulders were almost touching and somewhen, your legs had ended up underneath his blanket, your fuzzy socks brushing against his calf.
You willed your breathing to remain regular, seemingly impassive as you continued to watch the movie, but you simply could not concentrate, not when Jaceâs presence so close to you clouded all your senses like this.
The atmosphere was thick with tension and you wondered if all of this was only happening in your mind. You took a deep breath and reached for the popcorn again.
Tiny lightning struck you as your fingers brushed against Jaceâs, neither of you pulling back.
You took all your courage and looked up to him, his burning gaze already resting on you. You swallowed thickly, unable to look away and when you felt his thumb brushing over your knuckles, you were sure you were going mad.
It seemed like Jace couldnât look away either and a full-body shudder went through him when your leg shifted against his.
âYou can sleep.â Jace whispered into the darkness, gulping hard. âIâll switch the TV off later. IâŚIâll watch over you.â
I donât want to sleep. I want you and Iâm afraid of what happens to me if I canât have you.
But you feared your own words and the impact that they might have, destroying everything Jace and you had become over the last couple of months.
What if dreams were safer than reality, where nothing could hurt or disappoint you?
Your head fell softly against Creganâs shoulder, sweet oblivion already pulling you under at the outlook of his sweet promise to you.Â
As you drifted asleep, you couldâve sworn there was a featherlight brush over your thigh, four little invisible letters forever imprinted into your soft skin
mâŚÂ       Â
And as he watched your breath evening out, Jacaerys sighed deeply, his head bumping against the cushions of the couch and trying to calm down his pounding heart.
âĄđ ࣪ Ö´ÖśÖ¸đ.
The weekend came and Cregan and you watched your parentsâ car leave the driveway, your arms slung around each other as you waved at them before they drove out of sight.
Your brother and you were standing together for a moment of silence until you said: âIf tonight escalates in any way, Iâm telling mom.â
âIf you sneak downstairs and drink with the guys, Iâm telling dad.â
You snorted, unimpressed. âPlease, Iâd rather lock myself in my room all weekend long if it means I can avoid your stupid house party.â
Later that day, when it had gotten dark outside and the lawn was plastered with abandoned bikes and a few cars parked nearby, you realized how painfully true you had spoken.
Creganâs party had been going strong for a while now and you felt like a hermit, hiding upstairs in your room to avoid the chaos that was probably taking place downstairs.
You had curled up by the window with a book, but couldnât find peace.Â
Every minute, someone downstairs was calling for a toast or more shots which was celebrated by everyone. Music was blasting through the speakers and you groaned internally at the way the vibrations could be felt through your carpet.
Cregan could only pull this because the neighbors loved him for helping out here and there sometimes and because he always miraculously managed to clean up the house like nothing wild had ever occured here.
When you heard something shatter downstairs, you had enough.
You closed your book and got up.Â
Sure, you had wanted to stay away from all the fuzz Creganâs friends made, but this was still your house. You were allowed to move around whenever you wanted.
You muttered the words to yourself as you closed your door behind you, stomping down the staircase Cregan had declared taboo for everyone.
No one really took notice of their hostâs little sister as you walked down the hallway, past many guests who were lingering by the walls and chatting with each other.
Making your way past the living room, you could see that the couch table had been pushed back for more space to dance, but the kitchen was relatively empty compared to the rest of the house.
There were multiple open pizza cartons on the counter and you grabbed yourself an extra cheesy slice as you looked around, amazed at how none of these people seemed to care who was walking around here.Â
All except one.
âI thought you mightâve taken refuge tonight at Baelaâs.â Jace said behind you and you turned around with a sigh, smiling at him in playful annoyance.
âI wish I couldâve, but she is not in town as you might know.â You told him, munching on your pizza. âSheâs at some bonding activity dinner with her dad.â
Jace hummed knowingly. âI heard. So you had no choice but to suffer the consequences of Creganâs actions?â
The two of you looked around and you winced when you heard some splashes coming from the backyard, accompanied by some carefree shrieks of delight. Jace bit his lip, a little guilty at your discomfort.Â
âIâll come around tomorrow and help him clean everything up.â He offered as a small comfort, his hand itching to rest on your shoulder like you had done to him. âThere wonât be a dirty spot, I promise.â
âI know, Jace.â You sighed. âThank you, truly. Where is my brother, by the way?â
Jace looked flustered to the ground, before smiling at you without teeth. âI think he went somewhere with a girl.â
âOf course he did.â Another loud crash went down outside and something in you snapped. âOkay, Iâm going to go outside for a second, I donât think some of these assholes realize we have neighbors, hold on-â
Jace looked over his shoulder, telling a group nearby to keep it down a little before he followed you.
For just a moment, you disappeared in the crowd and he had no idea which side you had gone for, trying to stand taller to spot you in the garden.
You quickly found the source to all the noisiness.
Three of Creganâs guests, all boys you had never seen before in your life, were battling themselves for the biggest jump in the pool, splashing everywhere and soaking the pillows on the sun chairs with water.
âHey.â You stared them down, blocking one of them from taking another leap in the pool. âCould you stop being an ass and jumping into the pool like a maniac? We have neighbors on each side of our backyard and itâs almost midnight, itâs so rude.â
The guy grinned down at you, looking over his shoulders to his smirking friends. âDid you hear that, guys? I think Creganâs mom just came home, are you the fun police or what?â
You stared at him, irritated at such rude behavior. âIâm just telling you to calm down a little or Iâll kick you out, howâs that?â You mightâve been only Creganâs little sister, but growing up with a fiercely protective brother like him, you had learned to stand your ground. And you were not scared of an idiot who looked like he had pissed his pants.
âAww, I think you need a little fun, donât you think?â He looked down on you, stepping closer until you felt the need to step back. âHow about a little cool-off for you, huh?â
And with those words, he abruptly pushed you into the pool and everything went dark around you.
The people who had watched the heated exchange gasped and Jacaerys perked up as he heard nothing but quietness, quickly pushing his way through the crowd.
He came to a sudden stop at the edge of the pool, his eyes flickering back and forth between the guys standing by the edge and the waterâs surface, its softening waves quietening down.
But underneath it, illuminated by the night lamps of the pool, he saw you and his eyes widened.
He did not think, did not even hesitate before he jumped into the water after you.
The surprising cold was like a shock to his system, his wet clothes dragging him down to where you floated, your eyes wide open but unseeing as you watched the bubbles around you.
Suddenly, you were six again and you couldnât move.
You thought you were dying and no one would know, no one would know what you still had to say.
You wanted to kick and scream, to do something goddammit, but you were paralyzed by the sudden overwhelming scare.
Jace blinked and pushed himself forward, icy fear shooting through his veins when you gave no reaction that you had taken any notice of him. But the fear was quickly joined by the rage, anger over you, the most innocent being in this whole house, having been the one who took the most damage tonight...
Jace and you broke through the surface, the air rushing back into your lungs all at once and making you gasp painfully. Disoriented, you clung to Jace's shirt, looking around wildly as he pulled you close and soothed you.
"Shh, it's okay. I'm here, it's okay, love." He murmured near your ear and you felt your body slump, not able to hold yourself up yet.
You felt his hands on your waist and then, with one hand around your back and the other supporting the back of your knees, he walked towards the low end of the pool, carrying you out as if you weighed nothing.
You painfully became aware of how quiet it had gotten around you. Everyone in the garden was looking at you, shocked and a little ashamed that a foul joke like that had escalated into something so serious.
Something ugly and hot burned in your throat and you buried your face in Jace's wet neck, holding on to him for dear life and wishing everyone would just disappear.
A helpless whimper escaped you and Jace held you only tighter. "It's okay, I got you. I won't let anything happen to you, we're almost out."
Both of your clothes hung heavily down your bodies as he left the pool with you, throwing one last deathly glance at the guy who messed with you before he made his way towards the house, still mumbling little sweet nothings in your ear as you tried to regulate your breathing to no avail.
You shivered even as you entered the warm house and simply tried to focus yourself on Jace. He efficiently made his way through your home and before you knew it, he was walking up the taboo staircase, going straight to your room.
You quietly sniffled to yourself, letting him carry you a few more steps before he gently set you down on your bed. He looked around, one hand brushing back his wet hair, and found your fluffy bathrobe hanging by the door.
"Can I?" He asked lowly, his heart aching at your slumped form on the bed. This whole incident had deeply shaken you to the core. "You're going to be cold soon if you don't get out of yourâŚwet clothes."
If the situation had been different, you'd match his fierce blush, but it was like every feeling of shame had vanished from your chest and only left you empty. You nodded silently, taking the bathrobe he handed you before he turned around and faced the door.
You quickly slipped out of your clothes and sighed when you were enveloped by the fluffy robe.
"You can look againâŚ" You told him and he turned around with a shaky exhale.
Normally, his job here was done now. He could go, rejoin the party and find Cregan so he'd kick those guys out.
But Jace could not imagine a single place where he was needed more in this moment than right here, with you.
"Should I make you a tea?" He broke the silence, fidgeting with his hands. When one of his younger brothers was hurting, he'd always make it better with a hug, but you were different, you were so much more-
"Can you just hold me for a while?" You pulled the rope tighter around you, your wet hair still clinging to your neck and cheeks. "Please?"
Maybe the leap into the pool had made you silly. It was bold and daring and you had no right to ask him of this, but your heart had spoken deeply from its core and you found that you did not wish to take the words back.
Jace's gaze softened at your plea. "Of course." He mumbled softly and sat down beside you.
A heavy shudder ran through you as his arms pulled you against him and you gladly fell into his side; letting yourself be held like a small child, your hands clinging to the arm wrapped around you.
You couldn't help yourself when your bottom lip started to wobble again and neither of you had to say it, he knew why this had been so scary to you. You felt his chin rest on your hair and his strong arms around you and closed your eyes, allowing yourself to be comforted by him.
You had dreamed about being held by him, more than you could ever count, but not like this. It was a bittersweet feeling and when you snuggled yourself closer to him, in need for warmth and him, Jace took a deep breath.
"We should find you a towel." He murmured, his lips ghosting over your temple just like his hand had ghosted over your thighâŚ
You shivered, but not because you were cold anymore.
"I don't want you to get sick."
You nodded, sitting up with him and looking deep into his eyes. He didn't seem like he was able to get up just yet, the two of you lost in each other.
He had jumped into the cold water for you, not even hesitating a second. Your heart brimmed with love for him, nearly as bad as what it felt like to drown. And god, how you wanted to drown in himâŚ
His dark eyes flickered down to your mouth and only now, you realized how close you still were sitting together, the slip of your bathrobe revealing half of your naked thigh to him.
"JaceâŚ" You whispered and prayed all the prelude of wanting him and not being sure if you were allowed to have him was finally over now. "I-"
The door to your room opened and in came Cregan, panting as if he had run upstairs.Â
"Shit, are you okay?" He rushed to you, kneeling in front of the bed and looking you over in concern. "I was told what happened, I'm so sorry I wasn't there."
"It's okay." You mumbled, not wanting to worry him further. You already had scared Cregan badly enough for one time in your lives. "Jace helped me."
If Cregan noticed that he and you were still linking pinkies, he did not say anything about it. "I threw these fuckers out right away. The party is over."
You blinked at him. "What? You were excited about it all week. You don't have to-"
"Almost everyone is gone already." Cregan tried to smile encouragingly at you, but you could still see the worry in his eyes. "How about you'll change into something dry and I make us a snack? Are you sure youâre okay?"
"I'll leave you two." Jace announced quietly and squeezed your hand once more. "I'll go downstairs and make sure everyone is gone."
For just a moment, you did not want to let go of his hand and your fingers brushed midair before he slipped out of your grasp.
As the door closed behind him and Cregan brought you a towel for your hair, you already missed him like a lost limb.
â§âË âď¸â
âĄđ ࣪ Ö´ÖśÖ¸đ¸.
Of course, what had to happen, happened; a few days later, you found yourself sick.
Neither you nor Cregan had told your parents how the party had abruptly ended, a secret deal between the two of you so they wouldn't worry too much about you and they didn't have to punish Cregan for it.
So, your days at the end of summer were spent on the couch downstairs, curled up under a blanket and frequently attended by Cregan who brought you snacks and chocolate milk. It sucked and it was boring since you quickly ran out of books, but it was better than the horrible panic that went through you when you had been thrown into the pool.
On day three though, you had a visitor.
You blinked as steps approached your little sickbed, still a bit sleepy from your afternoon nap and the delicious noodle soup that had been made for you. But to your surprise, Cregan only stood at the staircase, smiling fondly at you before disappearing upstairs, making room for Jace who had waited behind him.
Your heart skipped a beat and a thousand thoughts rushed through your head. When had you showered the last time, did you comb your hair this morning, were you-
"Hey." Jace said softly. "I wanted to see if you were feeling better."
"A little." You smiled at him, sitting up and placing your wolf in your lap as he walked towards you. "You didn't have to come though, I don't want you to get sick."
He brushed your worries away and sat down on the carpet in front of your couch. "I brought you some tea. Raspberry was your favorite, right? And then, I thought you might want some new reading material."
You gasped as he conjured up a big bouquet of wildflowers from behind his back. At the first glance, it was only the most beautiful flower bouquet you had ever seen, but then you spotted a book in the middle of the blossoms.
And then another one.
And another one.
"JaceâŚ" You whispered with wide eyes, shaking your head at him in disbelief. "You made me a flower bouquet with books?"
He bit his lip in flusteration, a pretty pink blush appearing on his cheeks. "Yeah...I went to the bookstore you work at and thought about what you might enjoy. I hope you like them, I kept the receipt just in case and-"
"Jace." You interrupted him and now it was your turn to blush as you pressed the bouquet to your chest, the new books in the middle of it already singing your name. "This is the loveliest thing anyone has ever done for me. Thank you, I love it so much. I bet the books you chose are wonderful."
In this moment, it didn't matter to you that you were sick and still a little nasal. The way he smiled up at you, like you were his entire world and his shoulders sagged with relief - your heart screamed at you to finally give in.
Give in to him.
The wrapping paper around your bouquet rustled against your chest as you bent forward and rested a careful hand on Jacaerys' cheek.
He looked up at you with wide puppy eyes, thunderstruck at the tender touch and then you really didn't know anymore who made the first move but it didn't matter, because then-
Your lips touched softly.
It barely was a real kiss, merely the brush of a butterflies' wing against you, but it was all you had longed for for so long.
Neither of you dared to breathe, the moment too soft and fragile to become anything deeper. But you felt him exhale shakingly, his thumb softly holding your chin to keep you close for just a moment longer. It was the softest first kiss you couldâve imagined for yourself.
You leaned back, but only a little, and watched as Jace's eyes blissfully fluttered open, fixing your own wide ones dreamily.
"If I would've known books are the way to your heart, I would've brought you some so much earlier." He confessed breathlessly.
You shook your head, your lips still tingling from this first shy kiss. "You have been in my heart since I first met you."
Jacaerys wanted to melt from the victorious roar his heart let out, a dragon taking flight. "I've been in love with you, too. Ever since Cregan introduced us."
Your hands found their way to each other before you let out a sudden laugh.
"What is it?" He wanted to know.
"I just- I kissed you."
He grinned. "Yeah, you did." And he was in need of a repetition already.
"Jace, you're going to be sick like me." You pointed out guiltily, although it didn't seem too bad to have a companion in your little misery, especially if it was him.
"Oh." He did not look like he had a single care for the consequences of your actions.Â
"Are you two done yet down there?!" Cregan called from upstairs and when your eyes met, you broke into laughter and your heart blossomed at Jace's happy giggle.
It knew now that he was yours.
And you were his, just as he had once written on your upper thighâŚ
