Chapter One: Stranger To My Eye

After a run-in with the Zhentarim, Darcy realizes that her actions have dire consequences.

Darcy thought making her way through the Risen Road would be easy. Couple of tough creatures here and there, but the loot would be worth it, and her party could head towards Moonrise Towers with ease. 

Boy, was she wrong.

Standing in gnoll and hyena guts, she silently prayed to no particular god that none of the other members of the pack were still alive. She highly doubted it, though. The gnoll leader herself was slaughtering her own kind before she ultimately ended herself, thanks to the tadpoles they had in their brains. Thankfully, the only sounds Darcy heard were from her own companions, recovering from the fight. It wasn’t an easy one, and she knew they’d need to take a short rest soon.

“Astarion, what are you whining about now?” Shadowheart groaned, rolling her eyes as she reached out to the vampire with a healing spell.

“Ugh!” He cried out, “Darcy just got me these boots and now they’re absolutely soaked in gnoll blood.”

“I would’ve thought you’d enjoy that.”

“Not if the blood's old or staining my clothes!”

“The river’s just south from here.” Karlach pointed, “Want to go wash them off real quick?”

“I think we all need a good wash.” Darcy looked at herself, blood splattered all over her clothes. “We’re looking pretty rough.”

But before she could take a step further, she heard a man’s rugged voice calling to her from the cavern.

“By the Gods!” He shouted, a wave of relief lingering in his voice, “You’re a sweet sight.”

Darcy turned around to face him, the gnoll guts squelching under her boots as her hand instinctively grabbed for her bow and pulled it taut, arrow nocked and ready to be released. She feared that another enemy had approached their party, someone who wanted to take advantage of them while they were still licking their wounds.

But as the man fully came into view, she was pleasantly surprised.

Very pleasantly surprised.

me waking up in the middle of the night trying to remember if I turned off the stove

One of my favorite things in a good romance is when scenes are repeated to show character growth/used to bookend the arc of the romance (Mr. Darcy sharing his feelings with Lizzy, anyone?) and today I’m thinking about the two scenes of Gale getting on his knees and taking Tav’s hand.

How it starts: Gale hesitantly letting Tav into his heart, letting Tav be the first person he’s shared the truth with, the first person whose touch he’s felt in over a year. The way that he clings desperately to their hand, needing their help but unsure if they will give it. The way that his expression is pleading but hopeless, his eyes dry as he awaits Tav’s judgement—because he knows that no matter what their answer is, the orb is growing more unstable, and this is probably the beginning of the end of his life.

How it ends: Gale, having not only let Tav into his heart, but given it to them fully. The way that he no longer needs to cling to their hand, but instead takes it gently, worshipfully, knowing this is the hand that saved his life. The way that there’s no trace of uncertainty in his expression, just fully bared emotion and adoration—because the orb is no longer a threat, Tav has said yes to his marriage proposal, and this is not just the beginning of the rest of his life, but the beginning of the rest of their life, together.

Tav Character Worksheet: Tav of The Dock Ward

Name: Tav of the Dock Ward (in-game, I named her Cassandra, but it's just easier to refer to her as Tav when talking about her online).

Age: I leave it fairly vague, but I'd say late twenties to early thirties.

Gender: Cis!woman

Sexuality: Bisexual

Pronouns: she/her

Tav voice: voice 4

Family: Both of her parents are deceased. Her father was originally from Icewind Dale, and her mother was from Baldur's Gate. She hasn't met her paternal grandparents, and she is unsure if they are alive. She supposedly has several cousins in the Dale, but she hasn't met any of them. Her maternal grandparents lived in Baldur's Gate but passed away during an epidemic. She had an aunt who was an adventurer, but that aunt hasn't been heard from in several decades.

Birthplace: Born and raised in her family's home in the dock ward.

Job(s): While attending Blackstaff, she worked as an (underpaid) research assistant and she was also responsible for maintaining several academy herb gardens. When she left the academy, she worked as a glassblower and a stained glass-artist for the artisans' guild in Baldur's Gate.

Phobia(s): Abandonment, for sure.

Guilty Pleasures: She loves reading smut novels.

Hobbies: She loves reading poetry, cooking, and gardening. She used to press flowers while at Blackstaff--she actually gave her flower presses to Halsin as a thank-you gift at one point. Had she the resources more readily available, she would create more stained glass art pieces for her personal enjoyment.

alignment: Neutral good

sins: Hmm. This is a tough one. She most definitely got into a fistfight with one of the other artisans who worked at the artisan's guild (both of them had to pay fines for damaging guild property). The artisan in question was responsible for balancing the guild's books and had skimmed money off of more than one of Tav's commissions. She tried to report it to the owners of the guild and was ignored.

virtues: She does believe in simply helping people because "isn't that just what you do when someone is struggling?" She grew up in a tightly-knit community that pitched in to help where they could, so being a 'do-gooder' adventurer comes naturally because it is what she has always known. However, when she got to Blackstaff and realized how competitive and underhanded academia could be, she became a bit more hesitant to accept the help of others.

Introverted or extraverted? Introverted

Organized or disorganized? Chaotically organized. She will know where everything she needs is, but if someone tries to find something with her organization system, they're going to struggle.

Calm, anxious, or restless? She likes to think she is calm, and occasionally, she is. Otherwise, she is a very anxious person.

Disagreeable or agreeable? Agreeable, but sometimes too agreeable.

Cautious or reckless? It depends. While conducting research, she is usually cautious and will expect things to go wrong. But if she feels as if she has been thrown into a corner, she can be very, very reckless.

Outspoken or reserved? Reserved on most things, but if she thinks someone is wrong, she's gonna let them know.

Leader or follower? The type of leader who is elected to be one and says, "Wait, what? Since when? I just made a suggestion and everyone was fine with it. That's not leading."

Traditional or modern? I'd say she leans more towards modernity when I consider her character. She wanted to build out the Artisan's Guild to also offer artificing services, which felt like a move away from how the guild had been run for decades at that point.

Hardworking or lazy? It depends. She takes a lot of pride in her work, and she will happily toil into the late hours of the night, scrap designs over and over again. But if she thinks something should be easy or unimportant (laundry comes to mind), she's lazy. She'll wash her clothes, but she is slow to fold and put away, for example.

OTP: Rolan x Tav

BROTP: Karlach and her were best friends. Their dynamic was, "That is a horrible idea. It's going to go terribly wrong. We're gonna do it, right?"

This isn't to say that she didn't have other close friendships with her companions, however.

NOTP: Probably the Emperor. He really fucked with her "assume everyone has the best of intentions" mindset when she found out about Orpheus and Ansur. That isn't to say she still isn't conflicted about him, however.

Guys, I haven't watched Bridgeton, so I need you to hear me out: Mr. Darcy Rolan

Rolan sitting in that book throne and Tav is riding him. Hard.

Let me tell you Anon: the second I laid eyes on that book throne it has been my number one thought, nay, goal for a Rolan x Tav relationship.

Especially, my Sorcerer Coren. I have all the dirty book throne thoughts. In fact, alot of my story thoughts revolve around getting them around that chair to fuck.

In my long fic I'm writing for Coren & Rolan, after the Lorroakan battle, their relationship hits a point where they either have to admit they have feelings for each other and actually verbalize whether that's something they want to pursue or let their chance slip away.

I literally can not wait to show y'all the Darcy-est fucking confession I could come up with from Rolan. Which leads to them making out on the throne with Coren grinding/dry humping the life out of that man.

Also, a while back someone posted a headcanon where they thought Rolan could not stand for the way Lorroakan basically wasted books by making them into a throne. Which I absolutely agree too. But the only way that thing is coming down for Coren is when she gets too enthusiastic riding the fuck out of Rolan like her life depended on it on the book throne that it collapses under them.

I think for Coren, the Book Throne is her version of a sex chair. It turns her on so much seeing Rolan sit in it.

The Book Throne is the altar at which Coren comes to worship Rolan's body. Which Rolan honestly deserves in her mind.

He has enormous self doubt and feels both unworthy & undeserving of the things he has at that point. So when Coren catches him around the throne she tries to get him on it. He's such a good Master of Ramazith's Tower, isn't he? Such an intelligent, powerful wizard. He deserves to relax, have a break after all he's been through? All he's accomplished? Doesn't he? She associates it solely with being intimate with Rolan. That's probably where she gives him head for the first time. She loves having the powerful Master of Ramazith's Tower needy and wanting under her on his book throne. It's the closest thing to getting freaky in public he'll allow. And while he is itching to dismantle the damn thing so he can finally organize all those tomes, every time he approaches it with the intent to tear it down a memory of him & his lover pops into his head and he suddenly decides he has better things to do and the throne can wait for another day.

He is adorable AND irresistible AND unbearable.

Rolan is one of my fave pookie in BG3.

I don't remember where I read it, but someone called him "the Mr. Darcy of Baldur's Gate" and I was " YES. FML. YES. I CAN SEE THAT".

Honestly, he is such a grumpy cat and so full of himself, but fml, I saw right through him, because homeboy is filled with insecurities to the brim.

And he is such a braggart, but in a way that it's kinda adorable? I don't know how to explain, but even if he brags and try to pass off as overconfident, there is a edge to him that just makes him such a darling.

I just love how much he adores Lia and Cal, how they are all a big happy family, but he is so overprotective of them and at the same time is so terrified that they do not see him as he sees them (aka adore them to boots, but they might not feel as close to him as possible).

AND THOSE FRECKLES??

SO MANY. LEMME KISS EACH AND EVERYONE ONE OF THEM.

Listen, I made a life mission to ALWAYS save Cal and Lia, no matter my TAV alignment, because I need to see Rolan happy.

And DO NOT let me start on the way I reduced Logorrheic (aka Lorroakan) when I discovered that he actually beat him. I was SO FUCKING FURIOUS, I just went into that fraud's tower and delivered him a asswhopping of COLOSSAL dimension (it was same day delivery, so swift and direct fml).

So, all this to say.

Rollie Pollie is adorable AND frustrating at the same time, but him being an emotionally constipated pookie makes him absolutely endearing.

Just saw a TikTok of a Cameo that someone has requested of George Taylor (Roland’s VA) doing a reaction to a love confession in character. It was the cutest thing ever. Like he’s so adorable and sweet. Had me like:

Like it gave me an idea for Tav right before dealing with the end game shit, dropping a confession off at the towers for Rolan. He’s busy with work and sorta dismiss Tav or they sneakily drop it off and he doesn’t read it until later and is all the chaos going around he’s terrified for them as he realizes his feelings and theirs.

Tav comes back all battered and bruised and he’s rushes up them all concerned checking them all over and gently scolding them as he slips out:

“How can the one I love so much be so reckless and brave?”

And Tav is like, “You love me, too?”

“Always my darling.”

Gah why isn’t he a romance option, Larian!? He can be such a Mr Darcy and I love it.
