BALD BALD BALD
okay look. during a certified Hot Girl Moment arty fucks up his hair and cuts it short with his combat knife. the only way to fix that disaster would be to shave it all off...
i think it would be healing for him though. something something starting anew and finally starting to see your old self again. whatever.

Fallout 4 companions reaction to sole who used to be criminal back in the old days before the bombs fell? They used to be a pro thief as they would rob banks and jewelery stores.
Cait: "I knew there was a reason we got on so well, Sole!" Cait threw an arm around her companion's shoulders. "So, what was your biggest score? And care to try it again? I reckon caps are easier to nick than jewels."
Codsworth: The Mr. Handy's body rattled in horror. "My word, sir/ma'am! Surely you jest. Our home was purchased with honest money. Why, you had reputable employment. Why would we have needed to steal?" He shook himself in disagreement. "This is a prank, isn't it? Well, it's not very funny. You've been spending too much time with Deacon."
Curie: "The psychology around kleptomania is actually quite fascinating." Curie badgered Sole with questions about their motivations behind their theft; seemingly uninterested in the heists themselves. Sole was so overwhelmed that they eventually lied that it was a joke.
Danse: "And you thought that was appropriate to confess to a Paladin?" Danse crossed his arms in admonishment. "I suggest you recant that statement before it gets noted in your records."
Deacon: Deacon reckoned that being a liar didn't give him the best moral standing to judge his partner for their criminal past. "That'll come in handy when dealing with the Institute." Then he patted his pockets. "Just don't get any ideas about borrowing my things. Tinker Tom does that enough already. This merry band we've got is running me dry."
Hancock: "Get in line with every other drifter who's blown through my town." The ghoul handed Sole a can of jet and gestured to his apartment. "Though I wouldn't mind hearing about some of those scores. Dishonest work makes for some of the best stories."
MacCready: "Woah, nice! What's the most expensive thing you've ever swiped?" MacCready pulled out a lighter from his duster. "Sometimes I help myself to a trinket or two from a target. This here is the best lighter I've ever used. Stole it off a serial killer, so I don't feel too bad about it." Then he shivered. "You don't think it has, like, bad energy, do you? Maybe I should toss it..."
Preston: "I don't think you'd want to admit that in earshot of any other Minutemen," he warned. "Don't think they'd take kindly to knowing our general's loyalties are... questionable." Then Preston checked his coat. "Wait, you haven't stolen anything from me, have you?"
Piper: "If you weren't my friend, I'd interview you for a feature on your greatest pre-war heists." Piper shrugged, her disappointment obvious. "But I'd hate to besmirch the goody-two-shoes image you've cultivated in the Commonwealth. Even if it loses me some sales."
Nick: "That's not exactly something you should brag about, kid." Nick looked the the perfect example of a displeased parent. "Some criminals make for the best detectives. They know how the bad guys' minds work. But don't get any bright ideas about pulling one over on me."
X6-88: "Surely not a common thief, though." X6 frowned. "Are we talking fancy jewelry stores? Big banks? Whatever you stole, I'm sure you got more out of it than a simple raider."
Edit: Just as Sole thawed from cryofreeze, I have returned.

Yandere Fallout Guys with a darling having been Kidnapped by Raiders, please?
》There is no better header than this one for this.
Tumblr media
【Codsworth】 "This is unacceptable! How could this happen under your watch?"
What he means is his watch. As much as he's projecting he is the main force and advocate for your rescue. He goes to the current authority to demand ask for help. He tells them everything he knows, which is very helpful. What the attackers looked like, how they got in, what they said while they were there, etc. As soon as your back he, carefully and tearfully, hugs you. He takes you home after thanking everyone involved in your rescue personally and draws you a bath. You'll be treated like a king for the next few days, minus the fact he doesn't let you leave the house.
【Danse】 "This place really is unsalvageable."
All the Wasteland does is take and take until you have nothing. But he doesn't have the Brotherhood to back him to this mission. Not that the Brotherhood would go for that, being captured is weak. He goes on a rampage, killing everything in his path. He has no idea where you are but every mutant or person in his way gets shot. No one can contest him when he's like this because he took power armor.
【Deacon】 "Boss told me to let this one go. Ransom went through."
Of course he sneaks in and just gets you out. Was that ever in doubt. He dresses as one of them and lies his way out. Before anyone can verify your both already gone. That's as far as it goes... that's what you think. The food and water they have is suddenly making everyone sick and a lock underneath the compound is busted. None of them are fast enough to react when ghouls flood in through the busted lock.
【Hancock】 "I'm feelin' pretty merciful so I'm just gonna kill you. Not you though. This was your idea after all."
There are a lot of things that describe him, vindictive is one of them. He constantly parades you around and won't go more than an hour to mention you, everyone knows you aren't up for grabs. The only reason he didn't torture everyone involved in taking you is the fact it would take time and he didn't want to use that time to be away from you. So he has his town take you home and he follows soon after. There's still blood on him when he kisses you.
【MacCready】 "You took the wrong person."
There are exactly two people he cares about; his son and you. Everyone else isn't his problem. The second they took you they might as well have put a target on their foreheads and stood in front of him. You'll be there for about a week while he watches them, learning how they operate, then he takes them out one by one quickly and quietly at the end of the week. However, if you are beaten during the time he's watching he will mark whoever participated in his mind and they will die slow.
【Nick】 "Sorry about this."
It takes him no time to find out where you are and negotiate a ransom. He does know who half of them are. That doesn't save them however. He gives them the payment and takes you but the second they open the container of caps it sets off a chain reactions and the compound is destroyed. Of course it's not ideal to kill that many people but sometimes he needs to make a point.
【Preston】 "All settlements that can spare people send them to the Castle."
He was never one for war but if the raiders thought they could get away with kidnapping the General's spouse and hold them ransom he needed to march on the Commonwealth. He didn't care about the message farther than 'do not touch them'. After years of serving the Commonwealth most simply thought this was a natural progression and he was justified in doing it. The overwhelming support he got was enough to move a mountain. And when you got back he doted on you like nothing changed.
【Travis Miles】 "The radio is down for the time being. Until the safe rescue of [Name]."
He tried to rally the city for you but that didn't work so he decided to hold the radio hostage until the authorities did something. It wasn't his idea, the Bobrov brothers gave that to him, but he followed through. Last time he tried to be the hero he had your help but he decided he would come to your rescue with the others. The sight of Travis covered in blood is something you thought you'd never see.
【X6】 "I failed to keep our promise. I would apologize if I felt it was necessary."
After the Institute was taken down you told him he didn't need to kill people anymore. He didn't agree, seeing as people are killed in the Wasteland everyday, but he promised he wouldn't hurt anyone. When you were taken he couldn't stop it because he wasn't armed. He couldn't get to you fast enough while trying to focus on nonlethal means. To remedy this injustice he armed himself and killed every single raider in his path to get you back. There is a silent 'I told you so' while he walks you back.
【Vadim & Yefim】 "I told you not to rush in, Vadim. Let's get you two out of here."
Vadim rushed in immediately after he learned where you were from a patron who told him. Yefim tried to stop him but he didn't listen. He was captured along side you. Yefim was able to rally the city and save the both of you. Don't ask how he was able to convince the new mayor, he won't give you an answer. Vadim also tells you not to worry about it so he knows. At the end of the day they don't let you out of their sight for more than ten minutes. Vadim will also play up his injuries to guilt you into doting on him. Yefim however will ask you to stay close to him because he's too tired to chase after you again, do this favor for him, you owe him that at least.

ways people write the companions that make me go hmmm
Gage excluded because I haven't seen enough portrayals of him
Cait; Poor Cait has such confusing, odd writing choices that I can’t blame anyone for doing this, but...when she’s boiled down to either Tough Irish Gal or Traumatized, with little dimension. Again, Bethesda does this themselves in text, depending on ??? so it’s not, like, a big deal. My advice for writing Cait is to remember that she exists outside of being Irish or Traumatized. She’s read/read about Freud, for example. So, she presumably learned to read, likely self-taught. If she read something psychology related, she must have taken an interest in it. That sort of thing. The best way to write Cait is to not take the obvious answer, because Cait’s depth itself isn’t obvious.
Curie; When people write Curie as a stupid, horny, smol bean 2 gud 4 dis world, i throw up in my mouth. Same as Cait, this is Bethesda’s fault. They have a habit of going for funny dialogue instead of sensible. There is no reason for Curie to say half the shit she does, she says it because someone thought it was funny, or worse, sexy. I’d recommend going through Curie’s likes/dislikes and dialogue even more so than I do other companions. Curie has a lot of edges if you go looking for them. Y’know Covenant? Curie supports Covenant. Also, she’s literally a robot in a human body. She’s 200+ years old, too. Make her fucking weird. Y’know how elves/fae are? Like that. Bonus if you make her friendliness off-putting. Being friends with a doctor gets annoying, speaking from personal experience. Also, being a doctor, she knows all about sex and sexual pleasure. She’s not confused what a dick is
Hancock; please acknowledge other aspects of his character beyond horny, sad, or high. He has them, I swear. Do you even know his parents’ names? No. You care only about ghoul dick or stoner jokes. He’s not even a stoner, he does the Fallout equivalent of meth/adderall. Much like Deacon, he does and thinks about other shit. I joke with Hancock as well, but you might notice that none of my actual reacts/headcanons open and close with shit like “he huffs some jet with one hand, fingers you with the other, and thinks about how he sucks”
Danse; i promise you, Paladin Danse is not hypervigilant of people’s asses/tits/dicks/whatevers. He’s not imagining having sex with your busty Sole every time he looks at them. That’s not just not Danse, it’s also very creepy and dehumanizing to both Danse and Sole. Is Sole not more than their tits? Other companions get the too-horny treatment as well, but I see Danse getting it worse of all. Sometimes he’s written as absolute manchild regarding sex, knowing literally nothing, same as Curie. I say Danse doesn’t know what jerking off is as a joke, but he probably knows. But Chronic Virgin Danse is usually a light-hearted joke, Hypersexual Danse is just fucking weird. It gets into unhealthy territory. Like...Danse wouldn’t want to fight people flirting with his crush. He wouldn’t even get aggressive if he was dating Sole. He’s not a hotheaded asshole. Annoyed at best, rude at worst. It’s giving Fifty shades/Twilight/After.
Deacon; You guys know that when Deacon takes a shit, he isn’t dedicating it to Barbara, right? He isn’t dedicating it to his own redemption, or saving synths? He isn’t thinking up a cool lie to make about the shit-taking? When he has a drink of water, he isn’t like, “Barb used to drink water.” or “The U.P Deathclaws drank water” or “I’m gonna say I killed a behemoth with a water bottle!” Deacon has other thoughts and motivations beyond the meme or the sad. I can’t judge too much, because Deacon himself would approve of being thought of like this, but good god. Just let the dude be a dude sometimes. Let him shit in peace.
MacCready; might be because he’s the most solidly written, but very few complaints with most MacCready stuff. Him being a little perverted is in character, he’s 22. However, I have seen people straight up forget Duncan and Lucy. It’s okay, though. So did Bethesda.
Nick; Also usually solid, the most common crime is that aforementioned After Shades of Twilight writing. Nick is not a possessive dude. He’s even less likely than Danse to get aggressive over his partner. Yeah, sure, he’s a cop, but is that really the fantasy you want? Really?
Piper; I have...famously strong opinions on Piper, but good god. Blue this, Blue that, I’m gonna write about this, this’ll look good in my paper, I’m putting this in the news. Oh my God. You’d think Sole was a fucking SMURF with how many writers call them Blue. You’d think Piper dragged her writing press behind her like Sisyphus heaving his boulder along. Same as Deacon and Hancock, SHE DOES OTHER SHIT. People bend over backwards trying to work in the fact she’s a reporter. Same as Cait, the obvious is not interesting.
Preston; fuck the settlement jokes, I hate it when Preston is turned into an UwU soft boy baby cinnamon roll 2 gud 4 dis world UwU sunshine sweetie pie cutie. Whenever someone does this, they don’t actually like Preston. They have no thoughts, no feelings, they just...I don’t know, want to be contrarion to Preston haters? “Imagine not liking Preston, couldn’t be me ;333″ you realize this is racist, right? Like, you know infantilizing black men is racist? Oh my God you don't know this is racist
X6-88; SPEAKING OF FUCKING RACISM. The highest discourse I’ve seen around X6 is calling it ableist to HC him as autistic, but that is NOT the biggest issue with X6 writing. X6-88 is best described as, like, a very expensive, very spoiled cat of a rich, Old Money asshole. You know the Evil Stepmother’s cat in Cinderella? That bitch. That’s X6 in a nutshell. That’s how you write X6. I’m not even going to get into the racist ass portrayals of X6 because fuck is it tiring, just gonna leave you with this; X6 is best when you see his character for the humor and genuinely interesting philosophies in it, and not when you see him as a BDSM hardcore porn big dick sex god dominant daddy who likes spanking.

The Fallout show got me playing FO4 again. This time around I’m playing default Nate galacanting around with Buzz Lightyear Zaddy (aka Paladin Danse).
I’ve romanced him in the past with my female character and I always thought the lines where they flirt were a bit awkward. It’s really hard to pinpoint why, but it feels a lot more natural with a male character.
I think I support the headcanon that Danse is gay (plus him being closeted and maybe not even realizing it himself would just pair with canon perfectly). I also think he has a super avoidant attachment style.
I also might have to break down and write a fanfic because I’ve always really liked his character and I was so mad FO4 didn’t give him a full character arc. There’s so much to be said about the trauma of having your entire life fall apart and having to start over, but when you’ve spent over a decade of your life caught up in a fanatical organization that doesn’t let you fraternize with the locals (it comes on the loudspeaker often on the Prydwen) that could have been explored.
I think he deserved an arc where he comes to terms with that and begins the process of deradicalizing. I see him as somebody whose rhetoric is out of loyalty to a group he believed cared about him rather than his own hate. Not entirely, anyway.
He totally hate’s super mutants because of what they did to Cutler. That will probably be the one that won’t change much. Once he deals with his own internalized dislike of synths, I don’t see him having an issue with the Gen 3 ones, although he has a hard time bonding with them because coming out of the Brotherhood makes him feel alienated .
I actually don’t think he has much of a problem with ghouls and that’s totally the Brotherhood talking. There’s no personal beef with them like there is super mutants. Even his reactions in game when you have positive interactions with ghouls are inconsistent. Usually he dislikes it, but there are times where he seems fine with it (or at least doesn’t disapprove).
He doesn’t seem like someone who’s unreasonable or dogmatic in and of itself. In fact, it’s funny when you push back against something he says in the dialogue options just the tiniest bit and he’s like “you’re right, how could I have been so blind?” It just seems really funny to me that he would be that even keel and hold such a high rank in such a fanatical organization. It’s almost like he knows deep down a lot of it is bullshit, but lectures you about the rhetoric to convince himself more than anyone.
Looking past the bigoted rhetoric, his biggest character flaw is his loyalty because he clings to something that is demonstrably bad and puts blinders on in order to defend that thing because he is so loyal. He’s still responsible for unlearning that, but I think it also speaks to the predatory nature of the BoS that manipulates vulnerable people. His earliest memories (whether they’re real or not are irrelevant) are of him being an orphan picking scrap in the Capital Wasteland. Of course he’s going to join the Brotherhood of Steel.
Honestly, there’s a lot of parallels between him and Maximus in the show (Maximus is my favorite and must be protected). They were in extremely vulnerable positions in their lives and along comes this organization that gives them a sense of belonging. It’s the reason a lot of people join the military in the first place. It isn’t idealism, but instead pragmatism.
Tl;Dr Danse deserved better.

Note
why do y’all love maccready so much, he’s so boring 😫
Are you actually asking? Do you actually want an answer? Ok fine here we go
Why MacCready is a Fan Favorite: A Rant
Familiarity; first time players are swamped by all of these companions who are, hate, or constantly talk about synths and the institute. Piper never freaking shuts up about it, Preston doesn’t stop bugging you about the militia he’s trying to rebuild, Cait is literally a raider, Danse is part of the bigot brigade, Hancock is a literal ghoul, Nick is a literal synth, Codsworth and Curie are robots, Deacon’s a spy, Strong is a Super Mutant, etc etc. MacCready is just a young guy who wants to do right by his son. He isn’t up the players butt about choosing one faction or another. He may be one of the only companions that doesn’t make idle comments about factions or hating the institute. (I know there are some, but not nearly as much as any other companion.) Long story short, he’s just a guy, just trying to help his son, and he doesn’t care what freaking faction you choose because he’s just trying to save his son. Yes, for affinity purposes, he dislikes the railroad and bos, but we all know he actually doesn’t care because that isn’t what he’s focused on. After the initial “Maccready disliked that” it’s hardly brought up ever again. We like him because he’s just a guy who doesn’t care about the Commonwealth’s problems and just wants to save his kid.
He’s reoccurring; another reason players like him is because they probably remember him from Fallout 3, where he was an orphan in the place called Little Lamplight. He is the only reoccurring companion and makes comments on things players might remember from Fallout 3, like “tunnel snakes rule!” And his past in Little Lamplight. What’s more fun than playing with a character you knew when they were twelve? It’s fun to see how his life has progressed instead of him just being another npc that you never see outside of Little Lamplight.
Relatability; MacCready is unashamedly scared, easily annoyed, constantly complains and has all the traits of a normal human being living in the wasteland. Our sole might be a semi-superhero, frolicking through the wasteland with a sledge hammer in the grognak costume smashing every enemy they see, but we all know we’d actually be terrified if we were there. His companion quest is full of emotion that we clearly see, as opposed to Hancock, who just tells us about the emotions he experienced before. He’s twenty-freaking-two and it’s painfully obvious. He doesn’t know what he’s doing, he’s worried about everything. He doesn’t give the player a gun like righteous authority or the deliverer, he gives them a little freaking toy soldier that his dead wife made for him because he’s sentimental and wants the player to know how much he appreciates them by giving them something with a heavy emotional attachment. Letting them know he trusts them. What’s not to like about that? About a guy being so utterly human in front of other humans?
Empathy; MacCready is really the only companion the sole survivor can empathize with, and vise versa, in terms of their children. They’re both trying to save them. It’s their life’s goal. They both know how it feels to fear for their safety and wonder if they’re even alive. Not a single one of the other companions can relate to sole like he can, thus, forming a bond through something other companions can’t: shared pain.
Emotions; MacCready gets exceedingly angry, more so than the other companions, if the player lowers his affinity too far. Because he’s already lost his wife, been betrayed, and now he’s watching another person he’s grown to care about change on him. It’s just another example of his achingly well written personality and in-depth emotional story.
Tid Bits; these can be quite objective, but I’m gonna include them anyhow. This is probably the bottom line for many players, if I’m being honest. MacCready may look like a rat, but he’s cute. His voice acting is on pointe. Even though he got some bad writing at the end where we never hear anything about Duncan again, his storyline is still gives the player a very rewarding feeling. He’s just adorable.
what’s not to love, anon?

How about the fo4 companions (including DLC companions) reacting to a S.S. who was an Ex-Paladin for the BOS and had killed their team after being ordered to kill a synth child and went AWOL, taking the child under their care as a backstory?
I didn't do Ada or Longfellow because I didn't get to know them very well. We can imagine Ada didn't really give a shit and Longfellow just accepted it. He is old, he has wisdom... and he is probably drunk (for all I know of him)
Cait : "Bad-ass! I couldn't do better myself, kids not kids. But I take it's a warnin'. Dinnae violate yer morality by...not touchin' a child?"
Codsworth : "So this is what you were doing the entire time you were missing?"
"Yes. I was on the Capital side. I was completely disoriented after what happened to Nate/Nora. I had no idea what to do. And I couldn't bear seeing all I knew... altered in that way. I continued walking towards the capital without pausing. I couldn't find anything better on the road, so I decided to join the BoS. Seek out a place to live and some semblance of civilization. But they're all monsters in the end."
"Except for Danse..."
Sole tries to hide their smile, but they shake their heads and return to their solemnity.
"However, the reason I'm talking to you today is that my responsibilities as a General are taking up more and more of my time. I frequently put myself in dangerous situations. Also, the closer I go to the Institute, the more scared I am of never returning. I would not want my other child to be abandoned or without means."
"Do you still have him with you?"
"I hid him close to Sanctuary. I try to see him as much as possible, but it's becoming increasingly difficult. He requires a healthy environment, and Sanctuary has transformed into a haven of peace and tolerance..."
"Don't say anything else! I'd be delighted to look after this little one while you're away! We will always be at home to greet you back."
Sole expected nothing less from their butler, but seeing his joy warms their heart. The child does require a stable environment. Besides, having a location to return to and be welcomed back would be great for them.
Curie : "How dreadful. Betraying your vows by having to kill all of these individuals. Please be sure that I understand. But betraying a vow must be horrifying."
Sole sighs. Curie is only familiar with Hippocrates' oath. They are well aware that the synth cannot consider betraying it. But they appreciate how she handled the story. After all, these murders and betrayals have been weighing on them for a long time, and it feels nice to finally have someone to talk to.
Danse (Post BB) : "This story was told from time to time in the dorms. But I never imagined it was true, and I never suspected for a second that it was you. I now have a better understanding of your situation. But how is it that Maxson has never had a doubt? And why are you back?"
"It was another era, another time. They had not yet performed ADN testing, so how could they have known? And I needed the BoS to get into the Institute. But if you want a completely honest response, they are simply incredibly stupid."
"I recognize it now."
Deacon (romanced) : There were always moments. Sole vanished from his radar for a few days, then reappeared. They were impossible to trace. He now understands. Sole would never have allowed them to be followed in order to expose the location of this synth child's hiding place. And Deacon has more admiration than ever for this person to whom he has now dedicated his life.
Dogmeat : Love the child. Everything else is nonsense. It's a dog. He simply loves the child... and guards him like a mother wolf.
Elder Maxson (romanced) : Cade is formal. The soldier is the same. But how could it have taken him so long to identify them? How could his officer be so careless? He's not sure how to react now. To set an example, he must surely execute Sole immediately. But can he truly? He doesn't have a choice. As soon as Sole returns to the ship, he will arrest them and hand them over to a firing squad.
He doesn't have a choice...
But what if...
He makes an effort to think. He attempts to figure out who on his team could handle such a delicate mission for him. Then he finds out. Heylan, the scribe, came naturally in his mind. He is aware that she covered Danse. He had been aware of it, yet he accepted it since he himself was hesitant. Because a large part of him was hoping for a loophole in this tricky situation. Because he cared so much about Danse. And now, once again, a dossier in which his emotions and his responsibilities collide. Is this bad luck? When the scribe enters his quarters, he requests that she close the door behind her.
"This discussion never happened, and if you mention it, I will deny everything and you will face justice."
Haylen had not anticipated such a welcome. She was already worried about appearing before the Elder, her nerves had now reached new heights. But she nodded, waiting for what the leader of her organisation intended to do.
"You will return to the ground and follow Sole's trail, trying to find their allies and visiting their colonies. You must deliver a message from me: "I know, never come back."
Haylen cocks her head to the side, unsure, but she nods once more.
"Good, sir."
"Be really discreet. If you do not send this message before Sole returns to the airport, I will be forced to execute them. Do you realise the significance of what I'm asking?"
"Sir, yes. I completely understood."
"Danse trusted you, Sole trusted you, and so do I. Don't betray that trust."
"Never, sir."
And now all Maxson has to do is wait and hope. He did everything in his power. May fate now look after Sole.
Hancock : "Killing BoS? Help a child? And you were unwilling to brag about it?"
Sole frowns and shakes their head.
"There's more to it than that. I deserted my companions; I betrayed those who had placed their trust in me. They were under my command, and—
"You put your duties as they must be. This ends the debate. Is he all right, the kid?"
"Yes, yes, yes. He lives not far away. I hid him in... well, I hid him. I try to see him as frequently as possible."
Hancock's keen stare falls on them, becoming somber.
"Are you too afraid to tell me where he is?"
His friend, embarrassed, lowers their head.
"Understand! I… For so long, I've lived as a renegade, and I've kept our path hidden. It's difficult to put faith in anyone on this subject."
With a slight smile on his face, the mayor shakes his head.
"You've just pointed out your betrayal, your massacer, and its existence to me. It's odd that you paused right before asking me to send Fahrenheit to babysit."
"Pardon?" Sole and the bodyguard inquire.
"Yes, keeping him secure. So many sacrifices, why not give him a life worth saving?"
"Not in Goodneighbourhood! Never!"
"So what? Isn't this the town of outcasts and fugitives?"
Sole mulls on what Hancock has just said, but they sighs deeply.
"No. This is not the kind of life I want for him."
"So it's better to hide him?"
"I'm not sure, but your girlfriend doesn't appear to agree with your plans."
"Fah is my daughter, not my girlfriend."
Sole's eyes widen in disbelief. Hancock busts out laughing.
"A secret for a secret. Where do you plan on putting down roots, for the kid? I mean, seriously."
Gage : "What on earth does that have to do with conquering the Commonwealth?"
Sole grimace. That was something they should have expected. Gage is unconcerned about his last sock. The past is the past, the raiders are not children of the heart, and Gage's objectives are more essential than humans leaving by the side of the road. Sole does not and will never insist. But one day, like this, Gage returns to them, perplexed.
"You know, boss, I've been thinking about something. You betrayed your old patrol for a child who isn't even human. There may be children present when we invade the Commonwealth colonies. Are you sure you're not going to do it backwards?"
Sole's eyes widen in amazement. Then they softly shake their head and smile.
"No way, Gage, never."
But after that, their lieutenant was shot in the head the moment he turned his back.
MacCready : "Killing BoS and protecting a child synth. Yeah. You like risks, it’s twisted, but who am I to judge?"
He sighs and shrugs.
"Say, regarding the events in Vault 81... I hope you don't hold my view in the same regard, and that you're not planning to gut me in my sleep."
"Did you request that this child die? You were upset that I saved him, but you didn't ask for his death. That's not the same."
"No, I didn't... I didn't mind that you saved him! I'm disappointed that you didn't save yourself for whatever reason!"
MacCready is suddenly interested in his weapon, which he disassembles to lubricate the mechanism.
"However, I am not surprised. In fact, an imbecile capable of giving up healthcare in favor of a child's life may well debunk BoS without guilt in order to rescue one."
"It was my team..."
"That was the motto. The past is gone. Winlock and Barnes were both killed by me. You heard me; I don't pass judgement."
Nick Valentine (romanced) : He had a good time that evening. Conversations about the past, Sole in his arms, starry sky over their heads. But, for once, Sole didn't bring up the pre-war topic. They described this horrific event from their recent history nervously, almost fearfully.
"And the kid, what's he become?" The detective inquires flatly.
"Always safe and hidden. I try to pay him visits every few days. But I'm always worried that he'll be discovered."
Sole looks up to Nick, and he sees their anxiety. He strokes their cheek gently.
"Your secret is safe with me. I will never betray you. In the meanwhile, we'll consider where we can best place the child. Perhaps one of your settlements. I suppose he could be quiet at Sanctuary, and you could stop constantly glancing over your shoulder."
Sole's eyes are now bright with joy. They had already considered it, but because this secret had always been closely guarded, they frequently pondered if it was a poor idea without anybody else talking about it. The fact that Nick agrees with them gives them comfort. Yes, perhaps it's time for this poor child to resume his normal existence. And now that they're thinking about it, they're certain that Sanctuary would be the ideal location.
Piper : "Wow! What a tale! I'm not supporting genocide, but these Brotherhoods are viciously slaughtering anything that isn't like them."
"It was not a genocide."
"A slaughter? Don't try and tell me it wasn't a slaughter."
"Do you intend to write an article about this?"
"No! Absolutely not! I'm not stupid enough to put you and the boy in danger, and it could eventually lead to an open war with the Brotherhoods to expose to them that the Commonwealth Minutemen General is a former traitor to their organisation."
Sole gently shakes their head, a small smile on their lips. Piper's intelligence should never be underestimated. She comprehends things better than anybody else, and they were right to put their trust in her.
Preston : "But really, you had to kill these men back then?"
Sole sadly shakes their head.
"They refused to listen to reason. They'd track me down and kill me. I was his single chance to living a free and happy life. I had no choice."
The Colonel nodded slowly, his gaze fixed on the Prydwen.
"I see what you're saying. And I completely understand your distress at seeing this ship. Okay, if diplomatic visits are necessary, I will make them. Meanwhile, return this sad child to Sanctuary so he can have a decent home. It's a disgrace to keep him among the ruins, fearful, when we can give him a better future."
Sole can't keep a smile from appearing on their lips. They were completely right in telling Preston of everything.
Strong : “Boring. No need so much words. Protecting child. Good. Strong strong. Strong will protect child of human.”
Sole smiled slightly. It felt good to talk about it. And as usual, Strong’s simplistic philosophy reinforced their convictions. And now they have one more ally to protect their child.
X6-88 : Sole is sad now. They have since developed a trusting relationship with the Courser. They had placed their trust in his friendship. They assumed that X6 had progressed past certain phases of the Institute. That he had changed. So, they confided in him about everything. Their companion's reply did not take long. He demanded that Sole hand over the infant to the Institute. There have been relatively few synth children created, and they are extremely valuable for research advancement. Sole refused, as they had before refused to follow X6 in some "homework," but the Courser did not sweep the subject with the back of his hand this time. He made a threat against Sole. He threatened them, and everything about his demeanour indicated that he was serious. He stated thoroughly that it was the final straw. If Sole continued to refuse to behave in the Institute's best interests, they would be judged to have chosen to be an enemy. When Sole refused to cooperate, X6 opened fire, claiming that he didn't need Sole to find the child but couldn't afford to have them in his way. Sole is sad since they have to kill someone they thought a friend.

How do you think the companions would react to stubbing their pinkie toe on something? Who cries? Who screams or swears (fuck, shite, etc)? Who just bite their lip and walks away, trying to walk it off? So on and so forth.
Gosh dangit, I hate this when it happens to me, it hurts way more than it should!
Nick Valentine: Bangs his foot quite often often on his desk or chair, but the pain never gets easier. He curses the Institute under his breath for programming him to feel pain and for the vivid memories of old Nick banging his toe while also working at his desk. It’s especially frustrating when he’s working intensely on case that’s been bugging him and this is what interrupts him.
Piper Wright: Was running around her office trying to get her latest paper printed out in time for the morning, but she passes a little too close to her printer press and there’s a bang loud enough to wake up Nat and all her neighbors. The reporter drops all her papers and lets them scatter on the floor, hopping to her chair while she hisses with the pain. She gets a now awake Nat to bring her an ice pack and a Nuka Cola to help distract her from her throbbing toe.
Codsworth: He doesn’t have feet. (Remembers that cursed YouTube video with Codsworth with legs) Oh God help me, I need to bleach my eyes.
Preston Garvey: Was helping around Sanctuary with little repairs when he gets too close to a workbench, resulting in him crouching over and grabbing his foot while trying to muffle his curses as there are children settlers around. It may hurt like hell, but he’s still gotta be a good role model for the kids to look up to. (I love this guy)
Curie: She was drooping with exhaustion and walking around half awake the clinic she was helping at, long overdue for a break. Just when she was about to walk off to finally have a rest, an evil wall corner makes contact with her toes and she falls over with a pained cry, shaking out her foot. Everyone within a mile radius is running over to offer their hands to help the poor overworked woman back up and onto a sofa for a much deserved nap.
Cait: She doesn't care who is around or where she currently is, every swear word in the book is leaving her mouth as Cait punches whatever happens to be nearby in frustration. Preston has to run over and help her hobble away so she’s no longer frightening the settlers and their children.
Deacon HAS to play it cool when he smashes his toe on a stone coffin the the Railroad HQ because he just finished bugging Carrington and this mistake will ruin the joke and give everyone a reason to poke fun at him. He waddles out of HQ like a penguin, waiting until he far away to start yowling like a wounded cat.
Danse: Bangs it on the corner of a wall almost immediately after exiting his Power Armor. His entire face goes all scrunchy and red as he bites back a yowl of pain, forcing himself to hobble to the nearest chair. If anyone is around to ask if he is alright, Danse will responded with a very strained “Yes.” and a nod.
Hancock: Straight up asks the table why they gotta do him dirty like that and attack his favorite toe. He’s pretty sure that he’s the one who purchased said table and gave it a good home when it was about to be turned into fire scrap, so for it to suddenly turn on him was completely uncalled for backstab.
MacCready: Does a silent scream while he cradled his injured foot and hops around on the other. He gets all tight faced and looks like he is just really constipated with how he waddles around tight cheeked, he’s really hoping no one walks by for awhile until he can regain himself. For the rest of the day, he has a little furrow to his brow.
X6: One would assume he didn’t feel any pain as he walks on without taking much notice to the fact that he just smashed his toe into a bed frame hard enough to break it. But he’s actually dying and screaming internally the whole time, and if you could see his eyes it would be a window straight into his pained stricken soul.
Strong: Was lumbering around a settlement and passing by a log. He glares intensely down at the log with pure rage and fury in his face, exclaiming “Strong smash puny wood!” The super mutant proceeds to kick said log until it’s a bunch of tiny splinters on the ground, then he has to go to Sole for help because he got a bunch of them logged into his fingers.
Moral Of The Story: Don’t EVER look up Codsworth with legs. (Seriously, don't)

~Fallout 4 Companions React to a Pair of Hunter™ Original Red Wellington Boots~
Tumblr media
Ada would be delighted to have some high-quality rubber to cut up and use in various projects. A marksman's stock, stealth lining for armour, a generator and some power pylons... Oh, the possibilities!
Cait would be mildly amused. "Well, aren't those cute?" she'd chuckle, and then go and do something else.
Codsworth would be quite chuffed. "By George, is that a genuine pair of Wellingtons, made by the Hunter Boot Company of Edinburgh?!" he'd exclaim. "How splendid to see genuine British craftsmanship still thriving in this day and age! Why, it was nearly impossible to acquire Hunter footwear in the years before the war, thanks to the Chinese government shutting down all their factories..."
"Ah, tres bon! It is most important to 'ave ze protective footwear if zere is contaminated water around," Curie would remark. If she was in her Miss Nanny form, that would be all. In her synth form, on the other hand, she'd ignore them because she's already wearing protective shoes. (Yes, those combat boots included with her Flannel Shirt and Jeans™ are actually chemical-resistant, heat-resistant, suitable for agriculture, industrial work, laboratories, bird-watching and professional kitchens.)
Paladin Danse wouldn't care about the boots at all. Not one bit. However, he'd be very concerned about the Commonwealth gaining access to Vulcanised Rubber. The thought of raiders or civilians learning to heat up naturally-occurring latex until it becomes a firmer, tougher material would keep him awake at night.
Deacon would smile mysteriously and tuck the boots away in his bag. "One step closer to my Wonder Woman costume," he'd declare, already thinking of where to find gold paint and a craft knife.
Dogmeat would use the £135.99 pair of wellies as chew toys unless you stopped him.
Porter Gage would laugh at the wellies. "Looks like something one of the Pack would wear!" he'd guffaw. This belies the fact that Gage would absolutely wear them if they were yellow.
"Look at those stupid things! You wouldn't catch me in anything that garish," Glory would laugh. "But let me know if you find a pair of Chore™ Adjustable Tall Boots by the Original Muck Boot Company, okay? Black or camo, not pink."
Hancock would be mildly amused. "Well, aren't those cute?" he'd chuckle, and then go and do something else.
MacCready would be reminded briefly of the mole costumes they used to have in Little Lamplight, and how, after two hundred years of wear on generations' worth of feet, the boots always leaked. Then his mind would start racing, thinking of all the historians and eccentric collectors he knew, and who would pay the most for a genuine, mint condition pair of pre-war wellingtons. Sydney and Emaline, maybe? Or Sierra? They're red, so he could probably convince her they were Nuka-Cola boots...
Nick would be kinda ticked. "Well, aren't those fancy?" he'd chuckle, and then mosey along to his other business.
Old Longfellow would be quite underwhelmed. "Too short," he'd sigh. "They're better than nothing, but they won't keep the waves out for long."
Piper would be absolutely delighted. "Look at them! They go so well with my coat!" she'd laugh, dancing around with the wellies on her feet. "Nat's going to be so jealous... Wait, but what if this encourages her to wear shiny red boots in a reckless manner?! I-I can't be a bad influence on my little sister! Should I give them to Ellie instead, or...?"
Preston wouldn't really know what to make of the boots. "Er, those are quite nice," he'd say noncommittally. "Not really my colour, though. Er, is there any reason you're showing me these? It's so random... Oh, yes! Speaking of things that are red, we've had reports of a Yao Guai stalking around near Oberland Station..."
"Ah... Thin red buckets!" Strong would declare. "Too fancy compared to normal buckets. Strong can't carry much Milk of Human Kindness in these," he'd add before tossing the boots over his shoulder. They'd land in some unseen location with a crash of breaking glass and the anguished screech of a cat.
Z6-88 wouldn't react. He wouldn't betray the slightest thought or emotion regarding the wellingtons. If, on the other hand, you were wearing them, he'd peer down at your red rubber-clad feet for just long enough to unnerve you, and then speak. "You are aware that the Institute makes its own rubber boots," he'd declare. "Far superior to those antiques. Unless, of course, you enjoy blisters and chafed calves."

hey guys im on that tpc + warrior cat grind so i assigned Ancestor's Strife (a warriors rp with powers ^-^) powers to TPC chars
all Heroes have variants OR hybrids
all monsters have variants
all corrupt counterparts have their pure counterpart's element(s)
Cube/Cubic: metal
c'mon. gears, saws, those fuckin metal claws. /silly
Pentellow: ice
i think she should have it. as a treat. /silly
Iris: light
that thing on his head
Pyrare: rock/sand variant

Cyan: rock/sand variant
please please please please please please please please please pl /SILLYJ
Tsavorite: animal communication variant
I dont have an actual reason but also iam NOT being swayed on this /silly
Orange: animal communication variant + fire (hybrid)
animal communication: he and Tsavorite NEED to stick together im NOT apologizing /silly
fire: please just give me this one please please PLEASE /SILLY
Gold: sound variant
honestly the only reasoning i have him down for sound is because i think he deserves to get to make forcefully people stfu. for himself at least
Cyanide: rock/sand variant
one word. or name: Cyan
Lythorus/Lycanthropy: water
idfk i woulda gave him animal communication but i dont want to have a lot of variants on here 😔
Heli: wind variant
helicopter
Ketches: water
boat
Purpex/Hexacrigon: metal
that shit in her bossfight. the line hexagon things???? i dojt know
Marcle: ice
let her and Rincle have ice. PLEASE /sillyj
Squadril: light

Polyhedron: fire
it was originally water but a lot of the fandom considers him like a wizard and who am i to deny them wizard bitch /silly
Circumuscle: body manipulation variant

God
The Sun: light
sun
Green Tree Monster: animal communication variant + ice hybrid
shares powers with Tsavorite & Pentellow bc. Green Tree
Acrillimus: water
fish
George: no power
(tearfully) i dont like him. /sillyneg-
other headcanons but not really because theyre more of "if they DID have the powers i bet this wouldve happened" but its my blog i do what i want /j:
upon meeting Gold and being told about his sound manipulation Ajacenus immediately started giving him advice on sound manipulation and Gold tuned her out without hesitation and Ajacenus went "nuh uh" and unmuted herself for him basically and it was a neverending battle until Pyrare finally went "this is important quit that" and Gold just tuned them out for him for the remainder of the visit
flowers that are on the more "feral" side when corrupted (cant speak) are able to be communicated with by someone with the animal communication variant- which is how the Green Tree Monster managed to summon so many flowers for that fight in s1ep10
Squadril likes to scare people by turning himself invisible with his powers and randomly appearing next to them
once while they were still figuring out how to control their powers Orange burned Tsavorite on complete accident and Tsavorite sent squirrels after him to be silly and it didnt end well actually (Iris and Pentellow were so flabbergasted by the time they found them because they were covered in squirrel scratches head to toe)
Quintagon and Hexagram have metal fights sometimes
Spheer is REALLY mad that they have ice powers instead of Cool Ass Fire like their granny >:[

as is customary for 4/20 , i am out of my mind zooted . that being said , here are my stoned thoughts on different fallout 4 characters as stoners . nonhumans are humanized because it's funny . think like- a college au ig . don't take this post too seriously please 😭🤚
Companions
ada: can take three blinkers off a cart and be fine , tbh she probably smoked a decent amount with her original crew
cait: ✨ seasoned stoner ✨ , doesn't smoke much anymore but she'll engage in the doing of some good zaza occasionally , makes fun of deacon for smoking to become poetic
codsworth: would vomit after even breathing in secondhand mary jane smoke from twenty feet away
curie: has smoked weed to test sciencey shit that she was curious about , has a decent tolerance
danse: has never smoked weed in his life . decided not to after being half-blinded by stepping into a hotboxed room
deacon: among the ✨ seasoned stoners ✨ , has a MAD TOLERANCE because he's depressed and uses pot to make himself more poetic , he smokes to forget but he always remembers
dogmeat: if you give your fucking dog weed you are awful please do not let the dog hit the bong
hancock: ✨🍃king seasoned stoner 🍃✨ , his bare minimum with pot would have any other humanbeing dead burned and buried , smokes with deacon and cait sometimes , provides others with that good zaza
maccready: smokes sometimes either to feel ... deep and edgy , or nothing at all . would shove all the weed in his mouth if the cops came knocking , chew it up , and swallow it . buys from only the fInest most credible dealers
nick: he smokes every once in a while for similar reasons to deacon (it makes him more poetic) , his weird fucking 50's detective coat flaps in the wind more dramatically when he's stoned (he's some weird cosplayer like hancock ... nobody knows what his deal is)
old longfellow: nah this man is on smth a lot stronger than pot 😭🤚 i remember nothing about him as a character but looking at him scares me
porter gage: he is constantly crossfaded . he needs to be to cope with the dumb fuckin edgy junkies he hangs out with . he's dumb and edgy and a junkie too though so ... hypocrite ass
preston: he coff coff 💨 ouchie lung hoit 💨 coff coff 🌬️ no more zaza for pressie (he literally just looked at a bong and greened out)
strong: don't let him anywhere near any drug the entire human race would be wiped out (don't ask how my brain is starting to fizz and dissolve)
NPC's
amari: she'll pass weed along for friends if they need her to but she isn't too into smoking it . carrington Might be able to convince her to join him for a joint but it's rare
arturo: he'll share his zaza with you 🥳 only really smokes on weekends or holidays to avoid issues during the week . it's just a nice relaxing thing he usually does on his own
desdemona: this poor woman is so fucking stressed someone pass her a bong and a bucket she can sobb into . she smokes with carrington . they're both so stressed they're barely sophomores in college and they have gray hairs
drummer boy: he gets so weepy when zooted like please look after him 😭 wrap him up in a blanket and don't let him think . talks big game about smoking but he'd pass out in a hotboxed room
carrington: his tolerance is godly . he's been so stressed his whole life that he smoked in HIGH SCHOOL how scandalous~ would end another person's life for a fat blunt
crocker: 💀 this fucking wackjob is trying to find a way to mix Adderall and weed . hancock thinks he might just be a genius and everyone else thinks he needs to be behind bars
fahrenheit: oh girl she hangs with hancock she's blazing it in a back alley on campus in the middle of class , has some silly bimbo girl friends she likes to smoke with
glory: smokes with deacon and drummer boy primarily . will make fun of drummer boy for being weepy but takes care of him (not cuz she cares abt him 🙄 he's just a little worm) if he gets too bad . also smokes with des but they're gay asf eww
ingram: smokes very rarely like on special occasions . she doesn't have time to drift off into zazaland on a regular basis
irma: classy lady who smokes the finest quality zaza because she can . gets really really flirty with amari while high . gets flirty in general while high tbh . somehow fully aware/grounded the whole time tho
jun long: he ALSO smokes to forget but he always remembers . idk even if he didn't have a son thag died i feel like this man is HAUNTED like he needs that bud to survive
kent connolly: oh no no no don't give him weed . no good for the good little man . no good at all he cannot have that . give him a comic book and have him wait in the hall
magnolia: she smokes weed rolled in fucking rose petals . she deserves it tbh . smokes with kleo , irma , and daisy . sometimes her , mac , and deacon will sneak out to smoke in the park
marcy long: thinks weed is for lazy bums with no ambition . she takes care of jun when he's zooted but lectures him later . she wouldn't be caught dead with weed anywhere on her
myrna: she's too uptight to have ever smoked weed ... she is sucha fucking square
percy: he needs weed to cope with myrna . she's like his bossy mean toxic girlfriend who thinks he's inferior to her or smth idk man where am i
sturges: 😇 he like zaza it make him head go bzzzzztTtt bZZzzzzzZt like an old flip phone vibrating . sometimes he comes up with really weird projects while stoned and then he tries make them
sun: if only he had TIME to get zooted fUCK . his dormmate is a headache and his classes are hell . he'd gladly join carrington and amari for a smoke sesh but he does not have that kinda spare time
teagan: doesn't usually smoke himself but he sells that shit in some covert operation at a burger king drive-thru
quinlan: he smokes to quiet his buzzing mind . he gets very opinionated when stoned . his cat cannot escape his zooted cuddles
zeke: eh he'll chainsmoke cigarettes but draws the line at weed . cuz it's just nOt cOoL ??? (sturges likes being friends with zeke but is too autistic to understand why the man does not like to feel like his head is being banged like a gong)
ok i know i missed a lot of characters but considering how many i put in here i hope i deserve a pass 😇😇😇 um but ueah i am starting to really drift into zazaland . which is great . i'm gonna sleep fuckin epic tonight
anyways please don't take any of this seriously i could hardly remember who half of these characters are

Companions Dogsitting
Scenario: Sole has had to go off and leave Dogmeat behind. For whatever reason they've chosen this specific companion to look after the good boy for them until they return.
⌨ Ada
Unsure why she was picked but is eager to prove herself in this situation. She will take him to his doghouse and very neatly set out food and all of his toys all at once and just assume he will get to them as he desires.
Then she'll just... stand there. Watching him. Stuck in a staring contest with the dog that will sorta freak out anyone who comes by. She will attempt to walk him for exercise but he's going to run off ahead and make her noisily clank after him.
☘ Cait
Cait does not like dogs. They're stinky and slobbery and she's still just a little scared of them from her time with slavers. Sole's mutt is no exception. She's not scared of him because they've travelled together with Sole enough, but she's still not happy to be saddled with the beast and really doesn't know why she got picked. Will be full of complaints both before. during, and after.
She will try her best though, for Sole. Her best being tossing the dog something vaguely edible at least once a day and making sure he doesn't run off. He probably will.
⚙ Codsworth
Happy to do it! Will make sure the yard is secured with closed gates and no gaps in the fences, and lay out food and several toys similarly to Ada, though he will keep most of the toys in a box or basket for neatness's sake. Then he'll just go about his usual business, checking on the pooch every hour.
When he finds out the dog has managed to slip out of the yard? Residents will know about it. He will frantically hover up and down the streets loudly bemoaning his situation and how he could have lost Sole's dog after they already lost one before and questioning everyone on if they've seen his masters prized animal.
He'll scold the dog the whole way home when he does catch up with him, but Codsy can't stay mad at him. He gives him a jerky treat once he's cooled off, alongside a reminder to please not wander off again. Please.
⚕ Curie
Dogs are not sanitary! But perhaps he could still be useful in some way? She ends up scheduling a lot of her younger or more timid patients and has Dogmeat help her out by comforting them, letting the kids play with his ears while she takes blood samples and the like.
Dogmeat is very well behaved for Curie, though she does get carried away with her work and ends up feeding him late every time, which he reminds her by knocking things over in her lab.
Will be fairly restless when Sole gets him back, really in need of some proper exercise. Curie will politely ask to not be chosen for this task again in the future, not unless all other avenues have been exhausted.
♞ Danse
Attending a dog is an unusual assignment for someone of Danse's rank, he thinks, but he won't refuse. The dog is a member of their team after all, and an adequate canine unit.
He ends up spending the whole time focused on Dogmeat, running through all of the tricks he knows and teaching him new ones. It could be tactically useful. Yeah, that's the reason, not that he genuinely enjoys playing with the dog. It's not playing. It's training. This is serious.
Also takes Dogmeat running with him and ends up playing a lot of fetch (I thought it wasn't playing, Dancer?). Dogmeat will be very happily exhausted by the time Sole gets him back. And he will perform even better in the future too. Success.
🕶 Deacon
Either stays in Sanctuary and looks after him, though people might assume the dog is left alone because Deacon is seeing how well he can hide from his keen senses, or takes him down to HQ and causes chaos there.
Mixed reactions from the other agents. After Tinker Tom's initial hesitation he and Drummer Boy love the dog and can't stop petting him and smooshing his face, while Carrington won't stop complaining which leads to Des complaining. Glory really doesn't care, she sits back and watches the chaos, gives the dog a simple pat on the head when he comes by.
At some point Deacon will dye Dogmeat another colour. How do we feel about fuchsia? Also Tom is definitely adding weird tech to his harness. Sole may question at first if he's even returning their dog and not something entirely different.
☠ Gage
You're kidding, right? He's no pack raider. He's also not much of an animal person at all. But if you insist. You are the boss after all. Can't be that hard.
He'll just stay at home chilling, keeping Dogmeat with him and making sure he knows where it is at all times. He'll make snide remarks about and to it, especially when he gives it it's food, then realise he's talking to a dog and barely refrain from facepalming.
If he's left with Dogmeat long enough though Sole may just return to find the hound wearing a new gatorskin spiked armour. He looks better that way, Boss.
☣ Hancock
Like Gage he also ends up playing dress-up with the poor thing. Only this time it's a full fashion show. There will be clothing strewn all over the floor of the statehouse as Hancock tries out different looks on the poor animal, until Dogmeat inevitably gets fed up and nips at Hancock to tell him off.
Honestly most of the actual care is going to be coming from Fahrenheit while Hancock just cuddles and plays with him. Hope Sole does well with scorching death glares.
☸ Longfellow
Dog? Uh, sure. If you're sure. Enjoys spending time with a furry friend trotting along by his side, and likes even more when said dog shows off his combat skills against a gulper. Gets lots of head scratches.
He takes Dogmeat up to Erickson who is real happy to see him, and he gets to play with the mutant's dogs. It's nice to have an excuse to visit a friend.
Dogmeat will be pretty filthy from wandering around the Island and rolling around with the other dogs, but he'll be happy.
⨁ MacCready
Isn't sure at first, he's never had to look after an animal, but it can't be that different from looking after a kid right? Right. In fact it's a little easier, since Dogmeat is toilet trained and doesn't tend to scream in his ear for seemingly no reason.
He spends most of the time just hanging out on the couch, reading comics or working on his gun while he runs a hand through Dogmeat's fur.
The only part he struggles with is knowing when the dog has had enough exercise. Mac tends to get impatient and call it in early, but it still ends up being enough that Dogmeat isn't too unhappy about it.
♥ Nick
Sole doesn't even have to ask Nick to take care of the dog, Nick's known Dogmeat longer than Sole has and he loves that good boy. He already has a pile of blankets constantly set up at the agency for whenever the pooch visits him.
Honestly the best person to care for the dog, he meets all of his needs the best he can, spoils him a little with treats and attention, and even takes him along when he goes for his stroll around the city. This is normal for them. Dogmeat is definitely eating noodles for dinner, alongside whatever meat he chooses out from the butcher.
Nick's also not too worried if the dog wanders off for a bit, that's sorta his thing after all. He'll just check to make sure he has an idea of where the dog is for when Sole returns.
If Dogmeat has wandered off from the other companions there's a 50/50 chance he's going to find his way to Nick. Or he's just digging up molerats somewhere.
✉ Piper
Has the same thought as Mac of this not being so different from looking after a kid, but with much more confidence in her ability. Unfortunately for her things don't go to plan. At all.
She's never had a pet or been much of an animal person, and while one would think bringing home an over active dog to an over active pre-teen would work out just fine it actually just means that the chaos is (more than) doubled.
She had hoped they would wear each other out, and they do, but she now has a new carpet made up of next weeks edition of the paper, covered in inky pawprints along with Dogmeat's tail and feet that are now black from spilt ink.
Please never leave this beast at her house again.
☀ Preston
One of the best options to leave Dogmeat with. Preston loves having the furry guy by his side, and Sole won't need to worry about the dog getting his exercise since Preston's likely to be on his feet all day anyway.
Dogmeat just naturally fits into Preston's daily schedule without any need to change anything up. He comes along on patrol, gets fed when Preston takes a break himself, and gets lavished with pats and playtime too, both from Preston and all of the people he is checking in on.
☢ Strong
You've really got to be kidding now. It's a risky move what with Strong's tendancy to eat anything sporting fur (or scales, or skin...), but the mutant is smart enough to know that this is his leaders dog, and they probably don't want it eaten. Probably. They said something about that right?
The care is not good. Strong might toss him some meat but that's about it. He might not even notice when Dogmeat wanders off. If he does it will be quite the chase as the mutant stomps through Sanctuary after the dog, likely crushing several crops or construction projects as he zeroes in on just getting his leaders stupid pet back.
If he catches him Strong's likely to just shove him in a cage until Sole comes back, but Dogmeat's also likely to dive into a hole to get away from Strong, until someone can come along and persuade the mutant to leave him be and take over caring for the poor dog.
No one is happy with Sole in this situation.
☾ X6-88
Not happy. At all. X6 does not like dogs, and having the courser care for the mutt is an insult both to him and the Institute.
Honestly why does Sole keep this thing around? Wouldn't they be happier with a nice Institute grade cyberdog? Tricks could simply be uploaded into it without any margin for error, and it would be so much less gross.
His 'care' comes down to putting food in the bowl (gross gross, must wash hands right now for even touching that can), and then staring into Dogmeat's soul to ensure it doesn't act out in any way.
Dogmeat is very glad when Sole returns. Please don't ever leave him with that demon again. X6 agrees.

I missed the reason why you dislike the blake family, and that might be horrible timing but would you mind telling me? (I've been wanting to ask for days but bc I stupidly thought they would not write that dumbass Carlos/Iris marriage thing I wanted to wait for the season to start)
But anyway I just hate this storyline so much, it's not in character, it's nonsensical and it's getting on my damn nerves. How does any of it get rationalized as anything other than "the writers thought they were too clever by half". I mean, we're supposed to buy that a freshly out Carlos, just out of high school, married (why would he marry her at 18? Why not just live together?) his best friend to? fight rejection? Gain his parents' approval? (And we're being told that knowing it didn't work ,since we saw 2x04). Ok let's say I'm ok with that. Then she goes missing, he doesn't care? Nobody cares? Yeah that's the gay cop with the missing wife, you know, who's dad is a ranger ? Then he meets TK at a honky tonk for 1st responders and no cop is like "hey, this dude is really enjoying that danse with the hot new yorker for a man whose wife is missing" Then she turns up and they have a joyous reunion where they decide to stay married for insurance fraud reasons? And then TK meets his parents and no one is like "Hey, remember that girl you married and is still alive and married to you? How does your live in boyfriend feel about that?" And now, we're supposed to accept "I'm so happy to be marrying TK soon, oh damn, that reminds me I'm still married to this girl I haven't bothered to check up on in a minute, hope she doesn't think I'm a bad friend or anything, what do you think, fiancé who's just now learned of my pre-existing marriage ?"
The Michelle storyline in season 1 was the worst by far because it was so isolated. She didn't interact with anyone else (save for Owen in a few scenes) and she didn't seem like she was that great of a Captain, to the point where Tim and Nancy had to be like "I don't think you've ever told us good job" or whatever.
She repeatedly violated a restraining order against a man that was innocent to the point where she got him fired from his job.
She was also incredibly selfish and bratty to Carlos while they were "looking" for Iris--he went out of his way to set up a meeting with Detective Washington, asked her to be nice, and then .5 seconds into it she turned into a snob.
Carlos had to guilt her into asking how he was doing and if he was seeing anyone and when she did she still didn't have the capacity to connect the dots that he hooked up with TK. Not only was she a terrible friend she was also a terrible sister-in-law.
If he felt he had to marry her at that time, fine, whatever, that's fine. He felt he had to stay married to her to give her insurance, that's less okay, that's fraud and even Gabriel should've been like "well actually!" There were other avenues, people find them everyday. The second he and TK got serious that should've come out. TK might have been okay with it at the start but I don't think he should just be fine with it now.

Hi! I’ve got a request if you’re still doing fallout 4 ones. Can we have our companions reaction to a SoSu who affectionately treats synths, especially their synth companions, as their grandchildren given most of them were made with Shaun’s DNA?
Like checking in on them a lot, making sure they’re taking care of themselves, being a bit overprotective given the lose of their spouse and Shaun, etc.
》Very cute. I've actually seen a comic that covered this topic kind of by nimblerscout here.
》I'm gonna retcon the plot a bit so the player knows they need to get to the Institute but needs to find a way in. So they know what a synth is and where they technically land on their family tree.
Tumblr media
【Cait】 "Should I care? All I'm hearing is there a lot more people on the planet."
At first she doesn't really care, the act is genuine at that point. But when she sees how well you treat them and almost baby them she gets a bit jealous. No one ever did that to her, even when she was young. She will never admit to it, not even if you tried to torture it out of her. If you fawn over one of your grandkids in front of her she'll roll her eyes and look away pouting. Sometimes she'll think about if she's a synth so she can get the same treatment.
【Codsworth】 "Just so you know, I don't expect to make five-hundred lunches everyday."
He supports the idea to a reasonable degree. He loves the idea of you having grandchildren. Maybe you have a little more than the average nuclear family but that's they charm of it, wouldn't you say. That being said he will not allow you to house them all, there's hundreds of them. They can visit but only a few at a time and no more than four can live with you, not including Shaun, he will always make room for the young master.
【Curie】 "Oh my! A gift? Thank you. What a lovely thought."
When she gets her new body you immediately treat her as family. Not that you didn't treat her good before it's just different. And she loves the way you make her feel, absolutely loved and pampered. She doesn't really see anything you do as weird or questions it because you are technically right, she does come from your DNA one generation removed. With her new emotions you help her express what exactly she's feeling and try to give her positive emotions to understand first by giving her gifts or asking what she's working one and allowing her to talk your ear off. She's also the one that is most comfortable calling you grandpa/grandma.
【Danse】 "Good boy."
He was very confused when Dogmeat kept smelling him and basically fell in love with him immediately. Not that he ever really complained about it, he actually got very attached to him. If you were traveling with him Dogmeat would stick to him like glue. After he found out why and that you never told him it fundamentally broke something inside him. You knew and that's why you always tried to steer him to a different path. Your love was not only conditional but irreplaceable and would never stop. Unable to turn to anyone else he leaned into your love, knowing what it meant now. He can't remember the last time someone treated him like a child, not even in his earliest memories.
【Deacon】 "That's better than anything I could come up with."
He thinks it's funny... up until you give him the details about your son and spouse. He'll try to joke on the subject and shows you around the Railroad HQ, introducing who's your grandkids and who are just regular people. Because you have such a personal stake in synths well-being he has no doubt about where your loyalties lie. If you want to keep it a secret he won't tell a soul. You wanna tell the whole Railroad he'll get the equivalent of popcorn ready to watch the whole thing go down. He will also help you deal with Desdemona by stalling her so you can spend as much time with your son as you can.
【Dogmeat】 Sniffs before letting out a happy bark.
He's noticed how you are more protective of some people verses other, and he can tell the difference with how they smell. He can smell if someone is a synth or not which outs a lot of people as a side effect. To make up for it he is extremely protective of them and will go to bat for them as much as he does for you.
【Hancock】 "These are our new brothers and sisters. Give them a warm welcome.
As much as he didn't like the Institute after they were gone and the synths were displaced he had no issue with them, quite the opposite. He is more than willing to integrate them into Goodneighbor safely when news spread that the Institute was gone. Everyone is welcome in all shapes and sizes. When he sees you doting on them every time you visit he laughs. When you tell him they are your grandkids he laughs even more and encourages your behavior. The idea of you having nothing but love for freaks and weirdos makes him happy. You love the residents both old and new so he's all for it.
【MacCready】 "Grandkids? I mean, I guess you could call them that. I'd go for 'clones one generation removed' but whatever you say."
At first he doesn't understand why you even care for them in the first place. Sure they have your DNA but can you even call them your family. Once you explain exactly what happened he imagined if his son grew up and had kids he'd probably kill for them. Still, his son would never have hundreds of kids but he can kind of understand it. If he spots one of them he'll also help them knowing you'll probably pay him for it, or if you already have a close relationship with him because he knows it will make you happy.
【Nick】 "I'm not even sure we come from the same branch. Got a bit too many holes in me, if you know what I mean."
As far as proving you have the same DNA he doesn't really care about that in the slightest. If it makes you happy to believe that he's fine with it. But do not treat him like a child. He'll humor you most days and will allow you to go out of your way to help and protect him but he draws the line at patronizing him. He's mentally older than you and has to deal with weirdos and bigots all the time, don't add to that list of people that annoy him. But if you wanna crack a joke or two about it that's fine by him. Sometimes he even finds it funny.
【Piper】 "You knew?!"
You don't tell her about what Dogmeat does and what it means, you tell her it's just something he does that you can't explain. After you find the Institute expecting your son to welcome you with open arms you find out he's dying. So you spend what time you can spare with him as he slips away inch by inch. Piper doesn't know anything about what you're going through with him though and thinks the only reason you haven't destroyed the Institute is because your little boy is still in there, that you still need to find him or gain a way to access him. When she does find out she's pissed. When you've finally dealt with the Institute, after your son died, you decided to tell her. She doesn't stay mad for very long because you did follow through and ended their reign of terror.
【Preston】 "Can you... maybe help me figure out where to place them?"
He does and doesn't understand. He cares about the hundreds of synths that were displaced and you had a direct cause in that happening. Of course you felt a responsibility to them. But to treat them all as your children was strange to him, even more so when you had a hard time choosing where they should go. They couldn't stay in one settlement, there were too many. He regrets ever going to you to help decide this, you were taking a long time because 'you didn't want to choose favorites between your grandkids'. He ended up taking care of it and watched you say bye to every single one.
【X6】 "Could you refrain from touching me? No, I am not embarrassed, you are dirty."
He tries to avoid your fawning and doting as much as he can, especially while the Institute is running. If you don't listen to him he will eventually get annoyed enough to smack your hand away and tell you to stop again. But after a long period of time he just doesn't comment on it hoping you'll stop one day. You don't. When the Institute is gone and he gets stranded on the surface he better understands where you're coming from and will allow you to dote on him. But he will never allow you to protect him. He will always put himself between you and danger, forcefully if he needs to. You could talk him into most anything, a family picture, give him gifts, in private you can even get him to call you grandpa/grandma. Only in private.

Tumblr media
Elinor: she's very sweet, kind, and loyal, with a bit of a temper and can be stubborn. She'd be very easy to befriend choosing "good" options. To romance, she would fall in love with someone who was strong, who chooses to protect others, is patient with her, and sweeps her off her feet (she secretly reads romance books). She likes gifts that are thoughtful or that remind her of her homeworld. Once romanced, she would be very affectionate and shower you with kisses.
Tumblr media
Holly of Atterford: she's kind but prickly and guarded, is extremely stubborn, has a temper, and is passionate about everything. She would explode if she couldn't let the world know how she feels about something. She would be slower to befriend, but would approve of "good" choices as well as "necessary" choices. She understands morally grey choices and will withhold judgement until she has all the facts. She would be harder to romance as she'd probably unlock towards the end of the game due to her trust issues (she was abused by her extended family and the fae courts as she's half human). Her walls are very high and thick, but once she loves you, it's until the end of time. She would not appreciate fine gifts as that reminds her of her time in the fae courts, but she would appreciate you being generous with others. Once romanced, she would always be trying to look after you, her gaze seeking you within the crowds, her hand seeking her love's when standing next to them.
Tumblr media
Wulf the Blade: loyal, morally grey, will always pick the easiest answer (violence) but will listen to reason. He would be slow to befriend, but as long as you don't pick "absolutely evil" choices, he's good. Bribing him with food helps. He most aligns with warriors and people of action or stealth. He loves being sneaky and stealing whenever he's able to. Sorry, he's unromancable, 😔 he only loves 1 person, and that's Holly.
Tumblr media
Desdemona Sloane: friendly, kind, but also suspicious of people due to living in the Wasteland, she's quick to solve her problems with her gun. She would be befriended with "good" choices, as well as having fun shooting bad guys and escaping shenanigans in New Vegas. She would be slow to romance due to trust issues from living in the Wasteland, but she would fall for someone strong, someone who can take care of themselves and others, who has a sense of humor, and can take charge of any situation. She appreciates gift of food or playing cards. She would always have an easy smile for her love, and want to make them smile too. She'd be fussing and making sure they had enough to eat or are taken care of properly.
Tumblr media
Rafe McShane: standoffish, mean when necessary, suspicious of everyone, but loyal, he's very choosy about who he let's his guard down around. When he does, he loves talking about whatever is on his mind and hearing what others have to say (whether he agrees with it is a different matter). He's slow to anger, but goes real cold and violent when he loses his temper. He's good with most choices as he understands necessary violence and killing, so long as they're not "evil" choices. He loves one (1) woman - Des, but if he were romancable it would be someone like Des. He appreciates good weapons and being kind to animals. He watches his love like a hawk and is always looking out for her.
Tumblr media
Brianna McKenna: she's very kind, compassionate, loyal, stubborn as hell, wears her heart on her sleeve, and over extends herself in her commitments to others. She would definitely be befriended by strictly "good" choices, and would be romanced by someone who is basically her knight in shining armor. She appreciates thoughtful gifts, but also appreciates generosity to others. She would give her last bit of rations or the clothes off her back to those who asked. (it drives Danse crazy as he's always afraid of people taking advantage of her) She would be the type to always feed the people she loves and fussing over them.
If your OC were a romance/friend option in a game, how would their route be unlocked, and how difficult would it be to complete their route successfully?

Hey, how about companions (romanced or not, your choice) react to Sole disappearing into thin air one day and reappearing after months as the Overboss of Nuka World?
Better yet if the companions are the ones finding them at Nuka World but anything is fine really. Whatever feels best to you!
Yes! Hm… I'll admit I could have been a little carried away with some of them… and I hope you will like it even if I didn't enphased on the romances very much
Some stories end happily, while others do not…
I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it
I also realised I had left MacCready off the list. I have to correct this because my lovable ratface couldn't be forgotten!!
Be aware that Danse - Elder Maxson - Porter Gage - Nick Valentine shorts finished badly
Preston is the longest
I have had this poor forgetten Piper, and I think it's even much longer then Preston...
Cait : She doesn’t give a damn. She doesn't care that Sole promised to return for her soon and that she has been waiting in Oberland Station for several months. She is unconcerned. She is unconcerned about tales that Sole has vanished from the Commonwealth's surface. She doesn’t care about Travis suggestion that it’s worrisome. She is indifferent. Just because she's on the road looking for them doesn't mean she's worried, it doesn't mean she cares, and she doesn't give a damn about trying as hard as she can to recall what they told her about finding a missing person. It's not because they're important to her that she's enthusiastic about discovering Nuka-World and learning that they may have been kidnapped by the raiders.
Cait is smarter than we would imagine, and she would never fall into such a dumb trap, not like that moron Sole. She walks instead of taking the monorail. She has plenty of stamina. She goes through an abandoned city, a heath that appears to be more deadly than the rest of the Commonwealth, a former Nuka-Cola bottling facility... and there, on the ruined route in front of her, were two raiders.
Her smile becomes as awful as her baseball bat rise. Perhaps she'll simply locate Sole's body, but these teo will perish.
She runs towards the biggest, strongest one, the one with the headband over one eye, when she is stopped by a voice.
"Stop, Cait!"
This is the voice... of... no, impossible. And yet, she recognizes Sole under this raider's armor. Her baseball bat falls to the ground as she becomes enraged.
"Ya moron!"
She can't think of any qualifiers to describe how she feels, so she does what she knows best: she sends them the strongest live one she's ever sent, right into their blasted little surviving face.
The stiffer with the blindfold approaches to stop her, while the other orders him to remain still.
"I missed you as well. Sorry, I was a little caught."
"A little caught? What the hell?"
"Sure you don't want me to take care of it, boss?"
"Boss?! BOSS?!"
Cait pays Sole the second most solid direct she's ever sent. While Gage assists them in getting up, they rub their jaw and try again to smile at their companion.
"You know, I would prefer you to be less emotional, but come to Fizztop with me and we'll have a long conversation."
Cait runs back to throw them a third hit, but ultimately stops herself.
"Ah, ya lookin' ta chat? Well, we can do that. But if ya ain't got a good reason fer me, we'll be finishin' this little convo with a swing of my trusty bat here."
In Gage's stupor, Sole bursts out laughing.
"All right, but first you have to try one of those Nuka-Specials."
Codsworth : Madam/Sir has been gone for a long time! Preston assured him that everything would be OK because, Sole was frequently on the road for extended periods of time. True, but they hear about them on the radio. Codsworth listens to the station all day for any hints Travis might provide regarding Sole's stocks, but the advertiser is entirely mute about them.
Since his sir and mistress bought him, Codsworth has never left Sanctuary. Not even once. He was busy bringing the town back on its feet, first with Sole, assisting them with the bigger works, but Sole has been on the road a lot since they became General.
But they frequently return.
This time, it's been nearly a month since they departed to investigate the rumors around Sunshine, and no one in the entire Commonwealth has heard of them since day one.
Codsworth has never left Sanctuary since his sir and mistress bought it, but he crosses the crumbling bridge and follows the road this morning. He is provided with a cutting-edge GPS system, if only to allow him to return to General Atomics in the event of a malfunction. He now uses this system to get to Sunshine Tidings, and from there he follows the settlers' leads to retrace Sole's steps.
When the poor robot takes the monorail to the ancient theme park, he is not done. He quickly finds himself trapped in the Gauntlet and must use all his efforts to keep all of his pieces intact. He hesitated, between two rounds of twelve and a grenade; he wasn't sure Sole could have make it through this inferno... Regardless of the outcome, the Butler swears to return the body to Sanctuary.
When he arrives at the arena, he realizes the truth, which hits him like a rain of disappointment.
"Madam/Sir, how dare you degrade yourself in this way?"
"Let me explain, Codsworth. It is not what you believe."
The robot looks about at the unhappy raiders exiting the arena, knowing that their Overboss and butler would not fight.
"But how could you, Madam/Sir—
"I'll explain everything!"
"How could you go a month without taking a shower?"
Curie : This is beyond above Curie's capabilities. She doesn't yet understand how the modern world works, but one thing is certain: what Sole asks her seems strangely... unethical.
"But, if he's a raider, you should probably let him die, right?"
"What about your hypocritical oath?"
Curie is powerless to argue. She had taken a vow as a doctor to always do her best to save lives. However, a raider...
She travels with Sole and enters Nuka-World alongside them. She is astounded to find that all of these evil guys appear to respect Sole. They make a huge thing out of calling them Overboss. Sole, on the other hand, ignores them and heads straight towards an artificial peak beyond an artificial basin.
Curie discovers the raider that Sole informed her about in the flat at the top, at the bottom of a bed that appears to be meant for two. He is severely damaged, and it's a miracle that he has lasted this long. It demonstrates amazing character strength, which Curie can admire. She, on the other hand, wasted no time in getting to work, cleaning the poorly wrapped lesions, suturing, and administering the appropriate medicine.
After some time has passed, she is able to consider the raider stable and safe. She sighs as she cleans her hands in the small kitchen sink.
"Can you please explain who I just treated and why?"
"This is Gage." Gage, Porter. I owe him everything... I owe him my life."
"And it appears to be important to you. Is it important enough to deny everything you were working on?"
Sole dismissively places one hand on Curie's shoulder.
"I'm not expecting you to comprehend. But this man is my entire world, and I'd rebuild the world for him."
Curie can't stop smiling. She knows, deep down, that something awful is brewing deeper inside the tangles of this world. But who wouldn't feel weak in the presence of a living reproduction of Romeo and Juliet?
Danse : No! Impossible! Certainly, ultimately, IMPOSSIBLE. Nuka-World's Overboss cannot be Sole. It's had to be the last grenade. That's right. In that awful cage of doom, the grenade that burst dangerously near to his head. He's confused and realizes everything incorrectly. As a result, he enters the arena, grabs Sole's arm, and pulls them towards the exit.
"We're going back to the Prydwen, you're going to take a well-deserved vacation after being off the grid for so long, and I'm going to have Cade check my brain. It's strange, and you'll probably find it amusing, but I had the impression for a little time that you were the raiders' Overboss."
Sole retracts and try to push Danse out of the way. They try in vain to break free from the grip of a Power Armor, and all they get is to finish on the buttocks, pulled by a paladin in complete denial. Until Gage and a few subordinates formed a barrier in front of Danse and Sole, the weapons were aimed at the paladin's head.
"Not another step with our Overboss," Sole's lieutenant threatens quietly.
"It's all right, Gage. He's not trying to hurt me; he's just taken aback."
"A little stunned, yes," replied Danse hurriedly. "I just heard one of these dissidents refer to you as Overboss. I definitely need to get checked out, and I need it now."
Sole is able to let go of their pal and stand up this time.
"Danse, take a deep breath and let me explain."
And Sole begins to explain. But Danse is deafeningly silent. Nothing makes sense to him. He doesn't get it. He's trying; he knows Sole's saying something vital to them, but it's beyond his comprehension.
"So, you're going back to the Prydwen with me?"
"You didn't listen, did you?"
"You... you belong to the Brotherhood. Come back with me."
Danse gets seized by panic as reality dawns on him. Sadly, he shakes his head. He's already been there. It will undoubtedly be his final engagement. He will do it, however. For the honor. For the Brotherhoods. For Cutler.
He lifts his weapon against the one he took under his wing, guided, and helped. He points his weapon at his companion.
"Ad victoriam!"
Deacon : He didn't miss a single detail of what happened. He followed Sole from afar throughout the process. He was sweating blood and water as he saw the other go through the Gauntlet's hardships and then face this terrifying electric beast. When Porter declared Sole Overboss, he couldn't help but smile. However, the prank lasted long enough. He sneaks inside the Fizztop that night and approaches them as soon as Sole is alone.
"Boss, can't you stay out of trouble?"
When the spy emerges from the shadows, Sole lets out a huge sigh of relief.
"Deacon! Shit! You have no idea how pleased I am to see you!"
"I can imagine that. What kind of trap did you get yourself into this time?"
"Golden, but with sharp bars. Sharp bars that yearn to tear off my skin. Do you have a plan to get me out of this mess?"
Deacon is doing his best to process things. They might try to use the night to slip between the various factions and exit through the large entrance... But he doubts the monorail will finish its race before the watchdog realizes his Overboss has escaped.
"We'll have to go through Nuka-World and then out of Bradberton."
Sole's relief vanished in an instant. The two friends exchange long glances. Sole sadly shakes their head.
"No, I will not put your skin at risk for mine. RailRoad desperately needs you."
"We, too, need you, Whisper."
Sole shakes their head sadly, then comes forward with a resolute step towards Deacon, offers him the strongest hug Deacon has ever received in his life, and then walks back.
"Escape. Find Preston if you can. Inform him about the situation here."
"I'm not going to leave you behind."
"Yes. That is the only way out. You are the only one who can return. But if I accompany you, we'll be in grave danger at every turn. Get after Preston. He should be north of here, at Sanctuary Hill."
"I know exactly where Sanctuary is," Deacon grumbles. "But I'm not leaving Nuka-World without you."
They can hear the platform moving. Gage’s returns. Sole must be swift. Deacon is pushed back into the shadows by him.
"You're gonna do it. You are my only hope."
Deacon finally realizes that Sole is right, and he returns home with a heavy heart. With one final look at the ghostly shape of Nuka-World in the night, he swears on his soul that he will return with an army and rescue his one and only friend from the mess into which they fell.
Dogmeat : The good doggy had been right on Sole's tail the entire time. What a difference it makes whether they're here or elsewhere. So long as he stays with Sole. The odd men in colorful armor are kind, and they fill his belly with meat. The large red goatee is a favorite of Dogmeat. He understands how to scratch a dog. Sole is also fond of the huge redhead. Dogmeat is aware of it. But when Sole calls Dogmeat that night, Dogmeat is perplexed. Sole gives him a tight hug, and Dogmeat feels pain and terror. Dogmeat licked the face of Sole. Dogmeat is there. Dogmeat will stay with Sole until the end of time.
Elder Maxson : His most recent report is unequivocal. Paladin Danse has tracked down their greatest potential recruit in a place named Nuka-World. There has been radio silence since then. That sounds a little too much like a threat. A threat that ate two of his closest officers. The Elder issues his orders, the Prydwen is released from his moorings, and the massive ship traverses the Commonwealth once more. That is the most effective method. They already have to fight an invisible enemy; they cannot afford to keep behind their backs a visible enemy whose situation is obvious. A first detachment is sent to the ground to see if the two soldiers can be repatriated, but the detachment returns in shreds with very dismal news. There is nothing more to be saved.
That evening, the Commonwealth can watch the massive fireworks display that the Prygwen and all his vertibirds pour down on Nuka-World from as far away as Kingsport Lighthouse.
The sun rises the next morning on the remains of what were, for two centuries, the last vestiges of a time when children might laugh and play.
In a neutral mindset, Maxson's gaze wanders over the smoking remains.
But a wound opened deep within him, deep within his soul, and it bled furiously.
To him, the loss of his companion, the Paladin Danse, seems insurmountable. The loss of this bright recruit, Sole, whom he had grown to respect, feels catastrophic.
Elder Maxson vows to himself that he will never again let anybody to approach the boundaries of his heart, the loss he must bear not sawing at the function he must assume.
Hancock : Beer, drugs, and booze. The mayor of Goodneighbor appreciates the appealing qualities of the place.
What he despises are raiders and slaves.
He shakes his head as he sits on the bench next to Sole.
"Okay, survival. Completely the party. But this? This is a monstrosity, you feel me?"
Sole feel him. They feels him too well. Sole has said very little since Hancock found them in this odd area, sipping the bottle of Nuka-Victory in their hands, their gaze lost on the flaming lights below. The ghoul examines his companion with interest.
"What's your plan?"
"The merchants suggested supporting me if I managed to blow off all the big heads in the park."
Hancock was unaware of his anxiousness until relief washed over him like a pleasant shower. But how dare he question? How could he doubt that his friend, who was always willing to help, would approve of what was being planned within the confines of this park?
Of course, Sole does not rule from a bloody throne. Sole is getting ready for a bloody cleanse. And Hancock's shotgun is all set to accompany them on their heroic adventure.
Gage : This is a number. This Sole. It's a one-of-a-kind case. Strong, agile, and smart. Smart enough to have listened to Gage from the very beginning. They created an invincible team at the top of the Nuka-World raiders. They cleaned the park together, and now they're ready to take on the world.
Gage could never have imagined himself to be that great. He never imagined himself serving such an Overboss. What a clever boss.
On their first day outside Nuka-World, he follows Sole. He follows them outside Nuka-World's walls to conquer their first colony. He'd follow them all the way to the end of this world.
Gage had never had such faith in another person before. That's why, when he sees an army of Minutemen blocking their path, his first instinct is to place himself in front of the boss. It's the first time he's experienced such a surge of bravery and loyalty, but Sole is worth it, right? Right?
The .10mm click on his back is amusing. Sole believes they can defeat an army with such a little gun. Then he feels the weapon's coldness against his temple.
"It's finished, Gage. We'll set the slaves free. The raiders from Nuka-World will be defeated by the end of the day."
"B-B-Boss?"
Gage simply cannot believe it. Like a child, he was used and abused. He had faith in Sole all along. Everything they've accomplished together...
"You don't have to do it that way. Gage, you're a wise man. Follow me, and you can use that intelligence to help the Commonwealth rather than harm it."
All that faith he had placed in the one he dared to consider as... as a friend. All that blind faith. Even later on, he was willing to die to protect them.
"So, Gage, what do you say? Surrender and join us?"
He was willing to die for them. He was preparing to charge the Minutemen and buy the boss some time to take cover. He was prepared to die...
"Shoot," Gage can hardly say with his jaw so clenched, "Shoot right now; the second I see your back, I'll shoot it."
Sole is sadly shaking their head. They would have preferred that things had gone differently. They were confident that Gage would seize the opportunity to live a better life. But they must have been wrong. A raider is still a raider.
The detonation that rings in the slowly lengthening morning is most likely the most painful thing Sole has doing from their lives. But they don't have a choice. The decision was in the hands of the person they had come to consider a friend. And this friend was now lying face down, slowly surrounded by the blood oozing from the bullet wound.
"I'm sorry, Porter. Really sorry."
MacCready : MacCready paced back and forth in his improvised nest, his gaze fixed on the horizon. He'd been a mercenary for the Sole Survivor for months and had grown to feel strongly about them.
But they'd been gone for weeks, gone without a trace. MacCready had looked everywhere for them, but they had simply vanished into thin air.
As he sat there brooding, a Sunshine Tidings settler approached him, holding a miniature wooden soldier.
"Hey MacCready, someone left this for ya," the settler said, holding up the toy.
As he recognized the soldier, MacCready's heart jumped into his throat. He'd handed it to Sole as a mark of his affection.
"Where did you get this?" he asked, his voice shaking with emotion.
"Ironically, it's a raider from East."
MacCready's eyes welled up with tears as he clasped the wooden soldier to his chest.
"Thanks," he responded, his voice choking with emotion. "Thanks for bringing this to me."
MacCready sat there, lost in thought, as the settler went away. He knew the appearance of the wooden soldier indicated that Sole was still somewhere out there, and he resolved to find them no matter what.
With newfound zeal, MacCready packed his belongings and returned to the wasteland, his sniper rifle at the ready. After days of research, MacCready discovered Nuka-World, a long-abandoned amusement park on the Commonwealth's outskirts. He went to the park without hesitation, ready to seek out the love of his life.
When he arrived at Nuka-World, he discovered the park overrun with raiders. MacCready, on the other hand, was unfazed. He knew as the best sharpshooter in the Commonwealth, he could take down anyone who stood in his path.
MacCready fought his way into the park with his trusty rifle in hand, taking down invaders and eliminating obstacles as he went. His heart was racing in his chest, and he knew he was coming closer and closer to getting Sole.
After what seemed like a lifetime, MacCready finally found the love of his life.
Without saying anything, MacCready took the wooden soldier from his pocket and held it out to Sole. They were crying as they gazed at the toy and then up at MacCready.
"I knew you'd come," they said quietly, wrapping their arms around MacCready and clutching him tightly. "But, you know, there was no need to kill all of my people."
"Your... people?"
"The raiders. I was their Boss."
"You're crazy but you're my crazy."
MacCready didn't give a damn about any of it. Overboss of the raiders? Anyway, dead raiders. The only thing that mattered was that his love was back in his arms, and nothing could ever separate them again.
Nick Valentine : [As I previously wrote in a fanfiction about Nick finding Nora at Nuka-World and saving her, I want to try something different, but don't be ashamed to tell me if you don't like this version]
He does not require sleep at night. He's not going to quit regardless. He went over the Commonwealth, interviewing people and hunting for leads. He surveyed the entire Commonwealth, colony by colony, but his best buddy, Sole, seemed to have vanished without a trace.
He's returned to Sanctuary, defeated. He is burdened by his failure. Sole has vanished. He can't seem to find them. Sole tracked him down after himself disappeared. Sole has recovered every missing individual from every file that has been on Nick's desk since then. Sole even located all of Eddie Winter's holotapes, and Nick was able to kill Eddie Winter and finally be at peace with himself. But Nick is unable to locate Sole.
Sturges is working in his workshop, messing with an ancient radio, attempting to pick up transmissions. Nick gets closer to him, dismissed. Sturges is Nick's closest buddy outside of Sole, and Nick really needs a friend right now. That's when he comes to a halt.
"Sturges! Don’t touch anything!"
Nick listens intently as the trailer resumes its loop. Nuka-World. A little east of Sunshine Tidings.
"Many thanks! Thank you a million times!"
The technician scratched his neck, unsure of what he had done, while the synthetic detective turned heels and left without even explaining why he had come.
Nick's steady pace gets him to the gates of Nuka-World in less time than it takes to say. He skirts the monorail and rushes across the moor towards the old amusement park, but he moves more cautiously near the spot where the raiders appear to gather.
He observed a bunch of raiders standing guard outside the Fizztop Grille as he approached it. These were not the usual foreigners, Nick realized—they were brutal, cunning, and heavily equipped. He crouches in the shadows and moves in closer to hear the dialogue. So he discovers that this group is run by a brilliant man dubbed Overboss.
Nick took out his handgun and crept closer, staying in the darkness. He needed to find his pal as soon as possible. He had intended to find them straight, but fate seemed to have other intentions.
He noticed the Sole Survivor sitting at a table with a group of raiders, laughing and conversing as if they were old friends. Nick couldn't believe what he was seeing; had his friend actually turned into one of these freaks?
Too much seized, and he is unaware that the guard group has just noticed him before pointing their weapons at him and opening fire. Nick sought shelter immediately and pulled his firearm, ready to protect himself.
The fight was fierce, with bullets flying in everywhere. Nick fought valiantly, defeating raider after raider. But something weird happened when the last guard dropped to the ground. Sole approached him with a devious look on their face.
"Welcome, Nick," they greeted him. "I welcome you to my new kingdom. I am now the Overboss. And you, my friend, are trespassing on my land."
Nick was stunned by what he was hearing. His companion, the Sole Survivor, had transformed into the very thing they had been fighting against all along. This is the most bitter nightmare he could have imagined in his far too long existence.
But he knew what had to be done.
He drew his revolver and aimed it towards his erstwhile friend. "I won't let you hurt anyone else, not on my watch."
The two ex-partners confronted each other with their guns pulled and their eyes locked in a deadly look. And as they pulled the trigger, Nick knew their friendship had come to an end.
Piper : "Piper Wrigth is on the verge of solving a new Commonwealth mystery. Sole says Survivor has been missing for a few weeks, and our local celebrity, the private detective Nick Valentine, has been on their trail for nearly as long. Sturges informed me that Nick travelled to Sunshine Tidings after hearing a radio broadcast, so I'll tracks him back there."
Piper taps her lip with her finger as she holds the recording for a bit.
"I'm not sure what's going on, but hey! This isn't the first time I've been on the front lines of uncovering the Commonwealth's dark secrets!"
The reporter puts her tape recorder away, adjusts her bag's shoulder straps, and then, after a final gesture to greet Preston at his guard station, she heads towards Sunshine. She gets in sight of the colony shortly before the end of the afternoon, and she is promptly informed of what the detective found before her. East. She must travel east.
She discovered the Nuka-World installations just as the sun was about to set on the horizon.
"It's amazing" she begins with her recording. "A genuine historical relic just a short distance from a Minuteman settlement. There appears to be a lot going on behind the walls of this Nuka-World. I'm going to try to sneak in because there are so many raiders nearby."
Since the gangs appear to be making their way slowly towards their neighbourhoods, Piper surprisingly have it easy to infiltrate up to the market, where a doctor gives her the latest developments. This time, the journalist doesn't to turn on her recording device. If the Mackenzie woman is correct, things are going much worse than Piper could have imagined. But she won't believe it just yet. She must discover the facts without allowing her emotions to take over. She immediately arrived at the Fizztop Grille and took the lift right into the Overboss quarters, following the directions that she was given.
"Blue," she says softly.
She sees a movement to her right in the darkness, then someone lights a lamp and painfully gets out of their bed.
"Piper?"
"Oh!  Finally! I found you!"
As they approach her, Piper rushes to Sole, but when she tries to jump to their neck, they raise their hand and stare at her coldly.
"Remain where you are. What do you expect from me?"
"Blue? But… I came to save you!"
Piper is moved to tears by the cynical laughter of the person she believed was her friend. When Sole moves out of her line of sight to show her what is hanging from a Power Armour rack, she screams in horror.
"How could you?" she managed to say between sobs.
"He deserved it! Are you also here to get rid of me?"
Piper can't take her gaze away from her dear buddy Nick, or what's left of him. His coat is riddled with bullet impact marks, and a coolant puddle has formed beneath him. His eyes are shut and the hat has vanished. He is so miserable that the journalist feels her heart breaking into pieces in her chest.
"Are you coming here to kill me?" Sole keeps on ask.
"No," Piper replied with more vehemence than she felt she was capable of. In reality, she is extremely demolished, but her sharp mind has already made a decision. She wants to take Nick home no matter what happens to Sole, and she won't be able to do so if she is slain.
"Good. It would have been quite unpleasant for me to have to... terminate our friendship."
Piper clenches her teeth tightly, trying with all her will to remain calm.
"I never said we were still friends. I'm not sure what happened to you, but..." she swallows hard. "I'm leaving. I'll go back and never return. You won't hear from me again."
"If that's what you want," they sigh, unconcerned.
"But I'm bringing him back with me."
Sole lets out a cynical laugh.
"I'd really like to see you do it."
"You will see me and help me!" Piper had no idea she possessed such determination, but she is determined to see her goal through to achievement. "You're going to give me a brahmin so I can bring his body back to Diamond City. Whatever happened between you two, he was your friend; he helped you, he supported you, and you owe him that!"
She expected to have to fight claws and nails, and she expected Sole to protest vehemently and act sadistically. But they groan deeply, as if they are entirely broken.
"You know, that's not what I was expecting about. But they," he says, gesticulating towards the park below, "would have ripped me apart if I had shown weakness. Nick failed miserably on that one. He should have been more discrete. Things could have turned out differently."
When he looks at their old acquaintance, she can see his sincerity.
"You are free to take him. We'll just have to say you paid his weight in capsules. I'll arrange for his transport. While you prepare, you can roam around Nuka-World in peace. Nobody will bother you. That is something I will personally ensure."
Piper approaches Sole again, and this time they do not push her away. She takes their hand in hers and looks them in the eyes.
"You still have a chance. Leave with me."
Sole sighs and shakes his head.
"No. I'm not going back. I abandoned everyone who had put their trust in me. Right now, this is where I belong. But please make certain that no one follows in Nick's footsteps. I'll never have the strength to kill another of you."
There isn't much else to say. Piper recognises that what was will never be again, and the body of this wretched synthetic she brings with her to Diamond City is proof of that. She'll travel to Amari; she'll do everything she can to save Nick, but she already knows she'll never be able to bring Sole back.
And, for the first time, she does not consider writing an article.
Preston : Preston listens attentively to the man, out of breath, standing in front of him. He maintains a serious demeanor throughout the discussion while Deacon relates what he saw. Some might tell him never to take Deacon at his word, but Preston wouldn’t listen.
Because the facts remain the same. His general has vanished from the Commonwealth's surface, leaving no trace. It corresponds exactly to what the man in front of him says.
Prisoner of a band of raiders more organized than anything they've ever encountered.
"Allow me to broadcast messages. I intend to gather as large an army of Minutemen as possible. Meanwhile, if you're up for it, I have an assignment for you."
"I'll do anything for Sole. It’s… I've never really had a best friend."
"Reintroduce yourself to Nuka-World and get Sole ready. The army will be at the amusement park's gates in five days, preparing to attack." But he wants this army to march with its General at the head, a General who has had time to study the area and be ready when the time comes. However, the General must be warned, which is where Deacon comes in. Except for the spy, no one else could enter Nuka-World. Preston has faith in him.
Preston prepares the offensive while Deacon goes back. On the fifth day, he stands with all the Minutemen at the foot of the gates of a Nuka-World completely unaware of what awaits them. Unfortunately, Deacon did not return to Preston to report, so the colonel has no idea if Sole has been informed of what is going on. He hopes that nothing bad occurred to the spy; he seemed sympathetic and concerned about the General's safety.
As the sun rises, two figures emerge from the amusement park's gates. Preston can't express how relieved he is to see his old pal. He was about to cry. But he is still waiting. He's waiting for the signal before launching an attack.
Sole holds a gun to the raider’s head at their side and talks to him. Preston has no idea what they are discussing, but he is still waiting for orders. He's not going to let Sole down.
He feels relieved rather than surprised when the detonation sounds. One fewer raider. Sole enters the parking area quietly to meet their colonel. Preston can't help but notice how defeated they appear. While Sole is just a few steps away from Preston, the Minutemen notice that his pal... is crying.
The other swiftly wipes away their few tears before straightening up. They address their orders and they all storm as a group. The battle has raged for a long time; there are many pockets of resistance, but Sole knows where they are and who defends them. Furthermore, once the market is liberated, the merchants join the offensive, and the forces swiftly shift in favor of the Minutemen.
By the end of the day, the entire park has been cleaned up and the severe threat has been carried out to the last.
Preston searches the ranks for his General, but he cannot find them. Instead, he comes across the other man, Deacon. This one instructs him to follow him and guides him to the artificial mountain. They ascend the lift and find themselves in a loft that is rather luxurious for the surrounding area. Sole stands in front of the window, gazing out into the park. Their demeanor is solemn.
"General! Great victory!"
"Keep your congratulations, Preston.  A man died today who should not have died. It is a victory for the Commonwealth, but an awful loss for me."
Preston is gripped by his friend's gloomy statements. He approaches carefully and hesitantly.
"General?"
"I don't believe I'm deserving of this title. I had the opportunity to change things, to make them better. That window of opportunity closed today. I return the uniform to you."
"No!"
Preston is taken aback to hear another voice echoing his own. Deacon takes a deliberate step towards them.
"No way, Sole! Stop! What you're doing is admirable, as is all you've done. You changed the face of the Commonwealth; you offered those who felt they had lost everything a remarkable chance. The RailRoad has never thrived more than with you at the command of the Minutemen. Tolerance and prosperity are on the horizon for synthetics and humans. Racism has vanished. Ghouls, too, find their appropriate place. All of this, you delivered it to the world."
Preston agrees with the spy and nods.
"Only you and no one else," continue the spy. "I'm feel awful for Porter, but he'd never accept this reality. He would never have understood. But you, you created it. And the world still requires you. We haven't saved all of the Institute's synths yet. You still haven't freed all colonies from the threat of raiders or mutants. You still have a lot of work to do, and no one but you can do it."
Preston would not have said it so well. He puts a hand on his friend’s shoulder, looking into their eyes, the bright hope in his own.
"There would be no Minutemen without you. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. I'm deeply sorry for your loss. Deeply. However, you must not give up. You must fight for all the Porters of the world for whom it's not too late and who have not yet crossed the line of no return."
Sole lowers their head for a time, as if pondering, and then raises it, setting their sights on the horizon with renewed zeal.
"You're right. You are absolutely right."
They then put their Minutemen hat on their head, tackling it with a proud gesture.
"For all the Porters of this world who can still be saved."
Strong : Strong had been wandering the Commonwealth for days, searching for the Sole Survivor. He had grown to respect the human's strength and determination, and he was eager to join forces with them in their fight against the Institute.
But as the days turned into weeks, Strong began to worry. The Sole Survivor was nowhere to be found, and no one seemed to have seen them in weeks. Strong asked around, but no one had any answers.
Just when he was about to give up hope, Strong heard a rumor about a new Overboss ruling over the raiders of Nuka-World. Something about the way the rumor was told caught Strong's attention, and he felt a strange sense of familiarity.
He made his way to Nuka-World, cautiously approaching the raider stronghold. As he made his way through the chaos and destruction, he heard a voice that he recognized.
"Strong? Is that you?"
It was the Sole Survivor, and they were standing on a balcony overlooking the raider arena. Strong was overjoyed to see them, but he couldn't help but feel a little confused.
"Why you here? You leader of these raiders now?"
The Sole Survivor nodded, a hard look in their eyes.
"I had to do what I had to do, Strong. The Commonwealth needs all the help it can get, and if I have to work with these raiders to make it happen, then that's what I'll do."
Strong didn't quite understand, but he respected the Sole Survivor's decision. He knew that they were a fierce warrior, and he was proud to call them his ally.
"Strong fight with you, no matter what. Together, we strong!"
The Sole Survivor smiled, and Strong felt a surge of pride. They may be the leader of the raiders now, but they were still the same person that Strong had grown to respect and admire.
X6-88 : As he delivered his report, X6-88 stood in front of the Director, his arms crossed behind his back. "Father, I have located Sole," he stated calmly and measuredly.
Father cocked his brow. "And where precisely are they?"
The Courser paused for a moment before responding. "They are the new Overboss of the raiders at Nuka-World."
The Director's face became solemn. "I see. And what is your strategy?"
"I propose we send a team to retrieve them. We cannot allow one of our own to be associated with such a group."
Father agreed with a nod. "That's excellent. You will be in charge of the team. Please take whatever resources you require."
X6-88 nodded and walked away. As he walked out of the room, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of something he couldn't place. Even though he didn't always agree with Sole's approach, he had always respected them. He couldn't help but wonder what had happened.
The raiders were well-organized and well equipped when the Institute team arrived at Nuka-World. X6-88 was well aware that a direct assault would be suicide. Instead, he resolved to put his expertise to good use. He gained access to the raiders' computer systems by a combination of stealth and hacking. He realized that Sole had been assisting the murderer in expanding their area by leveraging their knowledge of the Commonwealth.
X6-88 was enraged at the prospect of his former ally assisting the very people they had fought against for so long. But he ignored his emotions and concentrated on his mission. He was able to take away the raiders' defenses one by one by using their own weapons against them. He eventually made his way to the Overboss's headquarters.
As he walked into the Fizztop, he noticed Sole sitting comfortably on a bench, surrounded by their new friends. As the Courser neared, the Overboss looked up.
"X6," they spoke flatly, their voice devoid of emotion. "I see you've come to take me back."
The synth sat up straight, his arms crossed behind his back. "Yes, I was dispatched to retrieve you. You can't possibly stay here with these people."
Sole looked around at their new friends. "These people are my family now," he explained. "They accept me for who I am, not who they want me to be. I've discovered a sense of purpose here that I didn't have at the Institute."
X6-88 maintained a solemn face. "I understand that you have developed feelings for these individuals, but they are still raiders. They cause harm to innocent people and disturb the tranquilly. That is not what the Institute represents."
His opponent stood up, their eyes narrowing. "What exactly does the Institute stand for? Control? Manipulation? Experimentation on unwitting subjects? Do you want me to go back to that?"
X6-88's look was unwavering. "The Institute's methods may appear harsh and intimidating. but they are necessary for humanity's survival. You are aware of this."
Sole made a shaky motion with his head. "I can't go back to how things used to be. Not with everything I've seen and done out here. I'm sorry, but I'm unable to leave."
The Courser let out a sigh. "I see what you're saying. But I can't let you keep hanging out with these individuals. I've been given the order to bring you back to the Institute, using force if necessary."
As the two formerly allies faced one other, the tension in the room was visible. But before either of them could act, the door slammed open and a swarm of hostile raiders stormed in, weapons drawn. Sole knew something like this was coming, but it couldn't have arrived at a worse moment.
X6-88 examined the issue rapidly and made a judgement. "We need to work together if we want to make it out of here alive," he told Sole.
The other nodded, and they fought alongside each other against the raiders. Despite their differences, they made an excellent team. The Courser's battle training combined with the human's skills proved lethal.
When the last forsaken raider was eliminated, the two of them stood panting, their guns drawn. They exchanged silent glances for a little moment.
At last, it's Sole who talk first. "I'm sorry it came to this. I never intended to be your enemy."
Is ex-ally nodded. "I see what you're saying. But our allegiances have shifted. I need to go back to the Institute and tell what happened here."
The Courser turned to depart as the Overboss nodded. But not before pausing and turning back to confront Sole one last time.
"Be careful out here," he warned. "The wasteland is a dangerous place, and you have made powerful enemies by associating with raiders."
Sole gave a nod. "I know. But I'm not afraid. And I'm not Alone. I have friends who will support me."
X6-88 acknowledged with a nod, then turned and exited the room. He couldn't help but ponder about his brush with Sole as he made his way back to the Institute. Even when they were on opposing sides, he had always admired them. And today, despite their differences, he couldn't help but admire their persistence and determination.
As he walked into the Institute, he realized he'd have to explain what occurred at Nuka-World. And he was well aware that his superiors would be dissatisfied with the outcome. But he also realized he'd done what he needed to do and gained a deeper respect for Sole in the process.
