DannyMay day 10: bones
Backstory to piece:
Back in 2020 we moved back into our old childhood home and we met the a feral cat that had taken to living under our house while we were away.
It took a whole year for us to tame her down enough for us to handle her and we named her Lilith. The original idea was to catch her, fix her and release her back, it never really crossed our mind that she'd want to stay but we were joyfully wrong. She never left and now 2 years later she doesn't really go out anymore, only coming out when we're doing yardwork or the occasional sunbathing.
Even though she rarely leaves, I still worry about her when she doesn't come back within her usual 10 minute sunbath on nice days. Thankfully her outings are becoming progressively rarer and she's content playing and napping inside with us but I'm still scared. Keep your cats indoors, it's dangerous out there.
Here's our half-toothed kitty 💕

DannyMay Day 6+7: Eclipse And Weapon [ao3]
This is a continuation of Day1: Fantasy AU. [link] Next part: [link]
Summary: Sam and Tucker meet the Fae Lord Phantom with a bonus flashback to how he earned the title.
Please note things get violent near the end after Danny messes with the pendant.
WC: 2,369
“Lord Phantom” Fright Knight knelt to face his Lord. “I have secured the humans as you’ve requested. Might I inquire as to why you personally collected them?”
Phantom rubbed between his eyes as Cujo whined for his attention next to the throne. “They are my attendants from while I’m-. Companions of mine since early childhood.”
“I see.”
“So.” Phantom’s gaze fell on his knight, the ring of light in the black projecting his source of power. “Do I need for you to attend to them before I make my way, or will their accommodations be adequate to please me?”
Fright Knight stiffened. “My Lord. May I be dismissed to address and correct my misunderstandings of your relations to the humans.”
So they got the standard 'throw the humans in a room’ treatment. “I’ll handle it myself. I’m sure they are frightened enough without you returning to move them to a new location.” He rose from his throne, waving Cujo to join with the other hounds. “Lead me to them.”
So Fright Knight did.
Sure enough they were in one of the more nefarious rooms in his domain. The room was pretty basic by fae standards. Lots of wooded and delicately carved furniture, cozy temperature regulated between an opened window and a fireplace that always burned with just the right amount of warmth to fend off the cold of his corner of the realm.
What made this room so dangerous to humans was the moss that carpeted the floor. It released spores to make creatures other than fae more docile after long exposure.
Entering the room, Tucker was the only one in view. Phantom had barely a moment to process that, before Sam burst out from the other side of the door, attacking with her dagger.
Phantom blocked it with his armor, staring at her with his dark eyes. “Stand Down.” The slim green ring was the only indicator of where he looked and it seemed to glow brighter with his command.
Sam, losing the only advantage she saw at the moment, relaxed her grip and let the dagger fall to the floor. Phantom smirked, knowing it wasn’t the only dagger she kept on her person.
He bent to pick up the dagger and handed it back to her. “Hang onto this. I’ve no need to disarm you. I invited you here as guests. Have you had anything to eat or drink?”
They both shook their heads, probably feeling a bit of both hunger and thirst now that he mentioned it. That was another side effect of the moss.
“Good. Don’t do either.” Phantom turned in the threshold. “Now then. Follow me and don’t wander.”
He walked off, and was relieved when the two followed. He wondered if maybe Tucker noticed the properties of the moss, cause they both hurried quite a bit.
Fright Knight followed behind the two humans as extra protection, irritated that his Lord let the humans see his back.
Once at Phantom’s personal chambers, he turned. “Thank you for the escort. Now leave us.”
Fright Knight bowed and took his post at the end of the hall.
“This way.” Phantom opened the door to the first room, the area was filled with lush flora and I couldn’t be considered a room as the walls vanished with only three free standing doors. The sky overhead filled with stars and a black moon, surrounded by a ring that seemed to match Phantom’s eyes.
“An eternal eclipse. A sign of the Lord of Night.” Sam mumbled, the sky and his eyes being the only proof she needed. “Is that why you tend to hunt only on the darkest nights?”
“Yep. I didn’t realize you’d actually read my parent’s scrolls.” Phantom looked up and winced as he realized his slip. He always enjoyed this inbetween space of his, but his two natures also tended to meld here.
“Your par-?!” Tucker gasped as he watched a resigned Phantom shift into Danny. Only, one of his eyes remained Fae looking.
“Hey, surprise?” Danny had the gull to look sheepish with a tiny wave.
They were all silent. Danny waited on his friends before he made the next move.
His nerves started to get the better of him as the wait till they said or reacted stretched on. He looked up to the eclipse in his sky as just something to hold his attention, when Sam finally said something.
“So. Let me get this straight. You, the skeptic prince of Amity, are not only Fae, but a freaking Fae Lord. The fucking Lord of Night, Leader of the Winter Wild Hunt, AND the Summer King Pariah’s Bane?”
Danny nodded. Only to turn to Tucker as he started laughing.
“How the heck have you found the time to pull all of that off??”
“Oh, Time in the Realms is slippery…I’m a bit older than I look…Or, I’ve got like centuries of life experience in 16 years time…?”
“How does that even?” Tucker looked like he was trying to do the math, when Danny shrugged.
“Don’t think about it too hard. I stopped trying to figure it out ages ago. I could be in ruling for weeks, then once I return to my room, the night wouldn’t even have passed. Don’t get my started on the pure headache of figuring out seasons and times of power.” Danny leaned as though he were going to sit, but there was no chair behind him.
Sam was about to call out when suddenly there was a chair. She raised a brow at him.
“What? The courts are always playing around with their politics and times of power. It might look like it’s on a 3 month calendar, but here those three months could last only a week, or years.”
“That's absolutely fascinating, but the chair, how did it?”
“I’m the Lord of this Realm.”
“Danny, that makes no sense.”
Tilting his head a bit, he grinned. “Good.” Letting his fae nature slip to the forefront again, he spread his wings that sparkled in starlight, “If it made sense, then I’d be a shit Lord.”
Phantom preened and let his wings fluff a bit before they resettled into looking like his cloak. He reveled in their dumb founded stares. The lore books always hyped up ‘the fae’s gossamer wings’, so they probably assumed his raven wings were just a feathered cloak.
“So, you both have two options. First being, go through that door.” Phantom pointed a finger at the door that looked like it belonged to Amity. “It’ll return you home sometime in the night. It’s never consistent so can’t say when. Or-” Danny shifted to Phantom. “I could give you a tour of my realm.”
They both looked a bit concerned. But, this was Danny. Right?
“I’m down for staying. How about you Tuck?”
“I don’t want to miss out on all the fun. So the time thing, is it that you are time traveling or-”
“Probably time dilation? Something in Infinite Realms keeps everything out of sync. I’m still expecting one of these days I’ll come here, and lose months in the Human Realm. I’ve been blessed so far.”
“So, when’d this all-?” Tucker motioned to all of Phantom.
“Human time, about a year ago. This is my second winter in power. You remember that charm my parents got from Duke Masters? The pretty black one with the ring.” Phantom made sure to look both of them in the eyes, drawing attention to it with a tap. Just to make sure they could see his eyes matched the charm.
Sam gasped. “But, it was useless, did-”
“It contained the previous Lord of Night. I broke it and unsealed the binding spell. Defeated him in single combat, then tada-” He grinned, exposing his fangs. “The Realm couldn’t have a Human Lord, so it fixed that problem my first night here. I’m pretty sure that my attendant at the time helped the progress. Come on. Let me start with introducing you to Cujo!” Phantom was done discussing his rise to power.
They both knew Danny well enough to know that it wasn’t that simple.
-----one and half years ago
The pendant was pretty, and that was about the only thing it was good for. Duke Masters had sent it in place of taxes this month. Claiming it to be a ‘fae trinket’, his parents eagerly accepted it in place of taxes. Which really ticked Danny off. Duke Masters had more than enough coin to spare. Had it been a villager that painted a rock, he would’ve been less ticked off about it.
But it was the richest of their people that pulled this bullshit. Danny was running his hand over it, attempting to see how the man had made the rock to produce the glow. It didn’t seem to be the work of wizardry. Least from what the court wizard observed.
The fae might have been a thing in the past, but now, people going missing in the woods were just unfortunate victims to nature. Not whisked away to some magical realm. It was all just fairy tales.
His nail caught in the glowing circle on the charm. There was a divot there. He picked at the spot with his nail at first, but then tried at it with a dagger-like letter opener. Finally, a small enough nick was formed, but rather than just looking scratched, shadows burst and the air grew thin. A figure emerged, everything about them deathly white from their features to clothes, to large feathered wings.
“Foolish Mortal. You’ve done me a service by freeing me, but as my sentence wasn’t fully served, you’ve committed a crime to the realm. For that, you must face your punishment. I shall even show you mercy and deliver your death quickly.”
A sword materialized in the being’s - the fae’s hand. They went to strike, the bone white blade swinging down.
Danny wasn’t going to just die just like that. So with the only weapon at his disposal, he blocked using the letter opener he’d been holding.
The bone blade was deflected to Danny’s relief, but it has cut the tip from his own blade. In a panicked thought, at least the blade was sharper now.
It did little to comfort him as the fae continued to strike. Danny focused more on dodging since he couldn’t afford his blade getting any smaller. Everything the bone blade connected with was cut as though it were butter. Least it wasn’t the poor letter opener’s fault.
The blade nicked his arm and Danny had never felt such pain before. It was cold, but it burned. Distantly he remembered learning about sensory death to cells when they were damaged to the point of no longer being able to regenerate feeling.
He couldn’t afford another hit, so Danny lunged with his little blade. He wasn’t sure where he was aiming, he just didn’t want to die. He didn’t-
The bone blade was through his chest, pain flared so bad he almost didn’t notice the blood pouring from the fae’s neck. Danny’s dagger had struck just right, that the fae lost their grip on the blade as they began to sink to the floor.
“How-?” Their voice was weak. “You’re but a mere child…”
“Looks-” Danny coughed. “Looks like you picked the wrong prince to try to punish.”
The fae’s form began to turn to dust, their blade following along.
With the blade gone, Danny’s wound started to bleed with more flow. Shit, he knew it was bad to remove a weapon like that. He tried to apply pressure, unable to call for help. Come to think of it, where were his guards?
They should’ve-
The dust started to rise, though there was no wind.
It seemed to whisper. “Youngling. Do you wish to die a mortal, or continue on…”
Danny thought it’d be dumb to reply. He was probably just dilutional from blood loss. Of course he didn’t want to die. He wasn’t done yet.
Without replying, the hallucinated whisper responded. “Wise choice…”
The swirling dust flew at him, and into the chest wound. The pain stopped. At least from the wound.
Danny could feel the dust, spiraling through him. He couldn’t tell if his blood was boiling or freezing, he couldn’t even scream. Or maybe he was screaming?
No one came rushing to his aid though. He collapsed and the last thing he was aware of, was chains, that seemed to emerge from where his once wound had been, began to wrap around his body. Moving almost like snakes to bind him.
He vaguely was aware that they‘d be gone when he woke next.
“Danny, there you are.” Danny peaked open an eye at the voice calling to him. Tucker was-
“Dude, we’ve been looking all over for you. Sleeping at your desk is going to make your back suffer.” This time it was Sam.
“Sorry, I-” Danny sat up. How did he get to his desk, and-? He looked to his letter opener, it wasn’t in two? And the Pendant. The glowing ring on it was gone. It was just a shiny black rock.
“I guess I’ve been working too hard.” It was all a dream?
“Probably. You should head to an actual bed, or I’ll tell Jazz.”
Danny gestured in mock offense. “You wouldn’t dare bother the kind princess with something so petty.”
“I would, and she’d take you off your duties for a week.”
“Then there would be a back log…” Danny got up and grabbed the pendant. “In all seriousness, I might actually be working too hard. I didn’t even notice I’d fallen asleep.”
“Then get to bed sleepy head. Want an escort?”
“Nah, you both can head home. Thanks for waking me up. If Jazz had found me asleep there, it would’ve been bad.”
They both waved him off.
Once in his room, Danny's reflection caught his eye. Right in the center of his chest there was a glowing scar. It was where the blade had gone through. It pulsed with each heartbeat.
Danny had a feeling getting any sleep tonight was going to be impossible.
-----
It took a week til he noticed the door appear that no one else could see. Then another few days till he gave into the temptations to enter it.
End notes:
The eclipse is Danny's eyes and the pendant so I couldn't figure out a good place to separate the two chapters cause Walker's Bone Blade was going to be for Weapon, so I just didn't x'DD
Hope you enjoy this cause I got more planned for the Fantasy AU (It'll probably get it's own fic after DannyMay with some edits.)

I'm Finally Going to be me
Written for Dannymay 2023 Prompt: Post-Reveal Fandom: Danny Phantom Characters: Danny, Maddie, Jack, and Jazz Summary: Phantom Planet happened but instead of Danny revealing himself to the whole world he escaped and came clean to his parents.
Tumblr media
Phantom saw the stares of everyone around him. Important politicians, citizens of Amity, and many of his friends and enemies from the ghost zone were all looking at him, his mom and dad at the front smiling down at him asking quietly if their was anything he wanted to say.
Their was. Their was a million things that Danny wanted to say, but he looked at Sam and Tucker, looked at his older sister and finally his mother.
“I’m just happy I was able to help both your world and mine,” Danny smiled at her, flying away, seeing her frown. He knew that wasn't the answer she wanted, but he had to help his friends get home. He flew away, Sam and Tucker walking up to his family to explain everything Danny couldn’t right now.
“Did I do the right thing?” Danny asked his mentor, after everyone was back home. He was still in the zone, a part of him scared to go home and be rejected.
“I am too involved with your timeline so my view is no longer clear, but your future is yours to choose. As long as you think you have made the right decision then the path your on is right.”
“Cryptic as ever Clockwork,” Danny sighed.
“Well us old ancients need to find some way to entertain ourselves,” the older ghost smiled as Danny laughed softly.
“Thank you nonetheless for your help.” Danny stood up, getting ready to leave.
“I will always be here when you need me, my king.”
“I’m not king yet,” Danny gave a playful glare.
“Ah but you will be. Each task you fulfill brings you closer. Now off with you. You’ve kept your family waiting long enough,” Clockwork kicked Danny out of his tower, knowing Danny would stay there all day if it was to just avoid the inevitable confrontation.
Taking a sigh Danny flew out of the tower till he got to the portal. Changing back into Fenton and landing on his feet he saw his mom’s crossed arms and his dad’s face, wanting answers looking at him,
“Ready to explain?” Danny gulped as Jazz helped move the family to the living room.
“Okay, so how did you become a ghost?” Maddie asked, serving a cup of tea to her family.
“Oh it was nothing big,” Danny said, trying to change the subject, wondering why he didn’t invite Sam and Tucker to be here with him.
“Also Mom he’s a half-ghost. Danny isn’t a full ghost,” Jazz informed them as Danny glared at her. Yes, he was happy to tell his parents everything, but after years of hiding everything it forms a complicated feeling within him, guess he’s going to have to find a way to get over it.
“Okay, so how does one become a half-ghost?” Maddie asked, crossing her arms, looking between her two kids.
“I’m not answering this one. I wasn’t even there,” Jazz held up her hands making Danny glare at her.
“It was the ghost portal. You and Dad were working on it and it wasn’t working. Dad put the on switch on the portal. I tripped over a wire, making my hand land on it. I was shot with thousands of volts of electricity and ectoplasm mixed with my DNA not fully killing me, but turning me half ghost,” Danny explained as he saw his parent’s eyes go wide.
“You mean we-” Jack started, his mom’s mind being on the same path.
“No! You and Dad didn’t do anything! It was childhood stupidity that did it! No one made me half dead but myself!” Danny was quick to defend them.
“How can you say that? We made the portal and didn’t think of any of the consequences that could come with it! We threatened to kill you over and over again?” Maddie asked.
“You threatened to kill Phantom because of some things that couldn’t be explained without going into detail. You thought that you were doing the right thing. I never blamed you for anything,” Danny promised them.
“You really are something special,” Maddie smiled down at her son. Her son has grown so much without her even noticing. Tears started to pour down her face as she looked at Danny.
“Mom, are you okay?” Danny asked, looking worried.
“I’m fine. You’ve just grown so much! You’ve grown so much and we didn’t even notice. Those late nights, grades slipping, calls from your teachers worried that you were going down the wrong path and here you are on the right path. The path is meant for you. Danny, I am so proud of the man that you’ve become,” Maddie hugged her son as Danny’s eyes went wide.
“Proud of me?” Danny asked.
“I told you that they would accept you,” Jazz rolled her eyes, but the smile never left her face.
“Thanks, Mom. It means a lot,” Danny smiled, looking at his dad.
“Dad, are you okay?” Danny asked.
“You did good Danny boy. You did so good and we never tried to listen to you,” Jack said.
“Dad is this about. . .Vlad?” Danny asked.
“I should have seen it?” Jack clenched his fist.
“No Dad. You didn’t know because we didn’t want you to. Vlad and I had our own deal going on. We purposefully didn’t let either one of you know what was going on,” Danny admitted as Jazz’s eyes glared at him.
“We want to know everything Danny,” Jack told him as Danny stood up, still tired from the fight.
“Eventually. I’m still tired. How about we continue this tomorrow?” Danny asked, walking to the stairs, Jazz following him.
“You didn’t tell them about Dani,” Jazz accused crossing her arms.
“Dani is a free spirit. If I tell them they're going to want to keep her here till she graduates and has an education. Dani doesn’t want that. She wants to travel the world. Next time I see her I’ll admit that she has a place to stay, but until then I won’t out her,” Danny said quietly, leaving for his room to pass out for the next three days, missing the sad look that Jazz gave him.

DannyMay 2022. Day Two
"No One Knows AU"
Ao3 FFN
Summary: Danny has been acting weird. Tucker wants his friend back.
- - -
Tucker jogged to catch up with Danny, panting as he yelled out his childhood's friend's name. "Danny! C'mon, man, wait up!"
Shoulders hunched, hair a rat's nest, and dark bags under his eyes, Danny half turned to look back at him over his shoulder.
"Hey, Tuck." He offered with a weak smile that somehow did reach his icy blue eyes.
"Woah, you look like death warmed over." Tucker cursed himself and barely stopped before facepalming when he saw his friend flinch and look down. Way to go, Tuck. "Sorry, man, but you look like you haven't slept in weeks!"
"Oh, uh, yeah, heh. I- I have been having some trouble with it… I think I'm developing insomnia…" He fumbled with his words, and even though he was finally facing him, his gaze flickered all over the place, as if expecting an attack.
(Dash had been getting rougher with him, Tucker had noticed.)
"Oh, that sucks, buddy." Tucker almost went for a gentle slap on the shoulder as commiseration, but having Danny's eyes fall on his approaching arm with laser intensity had him hesitate, and lower it down again. "Hey, do you wanna hang out at my house? I just saw the new expansion on DOOMED and need my gaming buddy to go after the best ques!"
He paid attention, and so he noticed the shift in Danny's face, he could read the sudden yearning shining through his eyes. Danny wanted to hang out, to be with his friend and play dumb games unyil they fell asleep on the floor with their controllers still in hand.
(Then why didn't he just do it? What was stopping him?)
"You can stay the night! I'm sure my parents won't mind. You won't have to deal with the portal."
"What."
It was just the one word, but suddenly there was a lump in Tucker's throat.
Danny's eyes had finally snapped up to meet his, and they were cold, piercing, searching in a way that left his soul feeling bare, leaving it cold and unprotected.
With great effort, Tucker fought back the need desire to rub at his arms to get rid of the freezing sensation that left him rooted to the spot.
"What do you mean by that." Danny demanded asked, with an eerie echo to his voice that Tucker must have imagined and that did not scare him nor drove him away from his friend since diapers.
"I mean, like," he began, trying to go for casual even as he stopped his teeth from chattering, "it must be hard living with a freaking door to Hell in your basement. I'm sure you've run into ghosts at least a few times. Must be really annoying by night. It probably is what doesn't let you sleep."
Slowly, Danny's posture relaxed again as much as it could, and he gave him a small (resigned?), tired smile that came off as a grimace on Tucker's eyes.
"Yeah, it's something, heh."
They stood in silence for an awkward moment, until Tuck spoke again–
"So, wanna come ov-?"
"I don't think so, no."
–only to be interrupted mid-question.
Danny was looking down at their feet, scuffing his toe on the floor.
"Look, man, I- I'm kinda behind on a few subjects, and I gotta catch up on past homeworks so- sorry, but I can't."
Danny turned to leave, but Tucker held him by the wrist.

DannyMay 2022. Day Three
"College Years"
Ao3 FFN
Summary: Team Phantom move into their first apartment!
- - -
"Aaand these are the last ones." Danny announced, as he used the hand truck to carry four big, non-fragile boxes plus one (1) Tucker on top of then.
"Do we really need so much furniture?"
"We do if we want to be the hosts of the wildest parties!" Tucker answered, not looking up from his laptop as he jumped from his high perch and landed with a roll, with the device unbothered by this.
(Danny wasn't the only one who had to learn how to move and not die to protect Amity Park, these years.)
"Tucker, we don't." Sam droned from her spot on the floor while she sorted other boxes. "We want a passable sleep schedule and good enough grades.
"Five hours of sleep a night do sound like a dream." Danny chimed in as he unloaded the crates as if they weighed nothing. For him, they didn't.
"But- but college parties!" Tucker insisted with an exaggerated whine.
"Pff, you know my parents will throw a fit if they find out we're using their 'money invested in housing' to throw wild parties." Here, she looked up, raising an eyebrow. "They're not even keen on me living with two guys. They only agreed 'cause they think you're gay for each other."
That had both of them looking at her, processing the information.
Finally, Tucker asked, "Babe, do your parents still not know what polyam is?"
"Nope," the goth replied with a smirk, "and before either of you says anything, no, I'm not hiding it either; I'm just, not saying it to their faces." She shrugged. "If they realize, good for them, if they don't, well, it won't be the first time."
Her two boyfriends looked at each other for a moment, but shrugged as well in the end.
"Fair enough."

why do the ghosts keep Danny's identity a secret even though they are part of his rogues gallery?
because dead men tell no tales

My #1 post of 2022
I see all of your "Danny runs away after a reveal gone wrong, ends up in Gotham and is eventually adopted into the BatFam (or BatPham, if you will)" and raise you:
a newly (half) resurrected Jason Todd ends up wandering the Ghost Zone until Danny finds him and takes him home with his loving and understanding parents after a reveal gone right, to help him deal with being a halfa and his new powers in a place where ghosts are such a common sight he won't really stand out and gain unwanted attention, with people that already have experience in this kind of situation and only want the best for him, where he has access to the Zone and enough ambient ectoplasm anyway to help him purge the rotten lazarus water out of his core and purify the ectoplasm in his body
and maybe the Fentons aren't perfect, but they do try, because they couldn't be there for Danny when his powers had just started showing and he had to learn on his own, hurt, stressed and about to collapse every day, and they won't be making the same mistake twice, when there is a boy that needs help and a stable home; they'll do better
and Jason still finds out about Joker being alive, about the new Robin that joined Batman, and he still is angry and heartbroken, but there is no Pit Madness to make him take The Worst Possible Choices, he doesn't beat Tim, doesn't become a crimelord, he doesn't kill. he faces his mentor, his father, and still tells him "I thought I'd be the last person you'd ever let him hurt", and there is so much baggage, so many "should have", "could have", "would have"s for them to be on good terms right now, to be a family again
but Jason is not alone (he never was, in either reality, not really anyway. he could have gone home in both worlds, his family missed him, but only in this one he knows he has a home, even if he doesn't really believe he could have two), and when he goes back to where he feels safe and welcome, where he knows for a fact a new addition is not a replacement (Danielle is there, after all), in that building with a giant sign and a space ship on top (no matter what Danny says, that's what he still calls the OPS center), he is welcome back with open arms and his favourite chilli dogs waiting for him
he has a family in Amity too
and he knows, deep down, that if someone tried to really hurt him again, this set of parents will not hesitate to go for the kill

Childhood
Thankfully, the Fentons ghost hunting tech was less advanced in the past and sneaking into their home was easier than it had ever been. Without their modified warning system or ghost shield, Phantom was able to sneak in using all the blind spots they hadn’t discovered yet.
He only hoped he wasn’t so far in the past that they didn’t have a working ghost portal yet. That would really throw a wrench into his plans to get back to his own time. Still though, he had to wonder why he had to find Clockwork on his own. Surely if he weren’t meant to be here, the time ghost would have already intervened. Right?
There was no one in the main floor of the house, so Phantom headed straight for the basement. Once inside, he froze at the sound of an unearthly screech. It sounded primal, and hurt, and Phantom knew it had to be a ghost.
Phantom ground his teeth together. Normally, he would rush in to save whatever poor ghost had been captured by the Fentons, but he couldn’t risk any changes to the past. He tried to tell himself that this had already happened, and there was nothing he could do, but before he could work up the courage to go in and look for the ghost portal, he heard another scream.
This one sounding like a human child.
“Don’t let your fear control you, Danny. That’s what it wants.” Maddie’s stern voice spoke up.
Phantom’s core thrummed in confusion and fear, and he turned the corner to investigate the lab before he knew what he was doing.
In the middle of the lab was a large glass cage, it was long and took up a huge amount of space. Maddie and Jack stood to the side and observed the cage like the cold scientists they were. Inside was the screeching ghost, back facing Phantom and looking at something on the other side of the long box that was out of his vision.
The ghost lunged with the same animalistic screech that sounded very wrong to Phantom’s ears, and a small figure slid under the floating form. Phantom immediately recognised the other person in the cage as a child, and a moment later, he realised who the child was.
“Danny?” He whispered to himself in disbelief. Phantom watched the pre-teen version of his rival stand and fire a blast from his gun that just barely grazed the ghost’s shoulder. The ghost ignored the blast, and several more that did a better job of hitting it, as it quickly lunged back at the younger Danny.
Now with a better view of the ghost, Phantom almost gasped at the sight of them. Mottled green and grey skin, flaming wisps of red hair, solid black eyes and foaming mouth open in a snarl, showing off too big fangs. There was something wrong with this ghost. Something so very wrong.
They pounced on the child, holding him down with clawed hands, and proceeded to screech in his face. They leaned in to possibly bite into Danny’s face, but the young hunter reached up with an ecto-laced knife to slash into the ghost’s abdomen. The pain from the wound made them rear back and howl and Danny was able to kick them off. He was tackled again as he tried to stand, this time from behind as he was facing away when he stood, and he hit the ground with a groan. The scream that the child made when the ghost clawed deep into his back had Phantom struggling to hold himself back as he darted his eyes between the younger Danny and his parents.
Why weren’t they doing anything to stop this!?
Why were they just watching it? What was wrong with this ghost? And why was Danny in the cage with them?
All of a sudden, the ghost started shaking and screaming, a light on the metal collar they wore turned on. Normally, Phantom would have been horrified to see someone get electrocuted, but at that moment he was only glad they were no longer hurting the kid.
Jack stepped into the cage and the ghost disappeared in a whirl of the containment device he held. With the fight over, Maddie stepped in and crouched to observe her son’s back. The shirt was well and truly ruined, and several long lines of red peeked through, already dripping blood freely.
“It doesn’t look infected, but we can’t be too sure.” She stood without helping Danny up in any way. “Get into the safety shower. We need to scrub you down.” Danny looked up at her with wide eyes at the order.
“D-do I have to? You said it didn’t look infected.” He asked hopefully as he slowly stood, wincing the whole way.
“Even so, it’s safer to clean it before we bandage it. I know you don’t like the process, but you won’t be able to reach your back properly. Though, if it makes you feel more comfortable, you can keep your pants on.”
Going by the expression on Danny’s face, that would make him feel more comfortable, though it quickly fell into a chastised frown when his mother spoke again.
“But this wouldn’t be necessary had you been able to follow your basic training. Honestly, Danny, you should know better by now to not turn your back on a ghost.”
“I know. I’m sorry, Mom, I wasn’t thinking.” Danny lifted his hand as if he were going to rub the back of his neck, something Phantom knew his older self often did when he was uncomfortable, but winced and lowered the hand before it got there.
Seeing the action, his mother finally remembered the injury and led the way to the safety shower in the corner. “You’re quick on your feet Danny, but you let your fear control you way too much.”
Phantom could only stare, still in shock over the events. Getting over fear in a fight like that was easier said than done. Even Phantom was afraid of that ghost. They were tainted and twisted and wrong. He wondered what happened to them to make them that way. Though considering the Fenton’s were involved that was probably half the answer already.
Now that things were calmer, Phantom started paying a bit more attention to what was being said. He didn’t know that his rival had been afraid of ghosts when he was younger. Though with an experience like that, he couldn’t say he blamed the kid. This was his training?
“You want to protect people, don’t you?” Maddie asked as Danny tried to remove his ruined shirt. He couldn’t do it, so she grabbed a pair of latex gloves and some scissors. “To protect them from ghosts?”
“Of course, I do.” Danny stopped moving as his mother cut the shirt off. “I want to be a ghost hunter so I can keep people safe from ghosts.”
Phantom stared at the younger version of his rival. Danny Fenton had been a ghost hunter for longer than Phantom had been in Amity Park. But he had always been one of the best, a constant thorn in Phantom’s side. He was a Fenton, raised a ghost hunter, and just as much of a monster as his parents. But Phantom had never thought to wonder why.
“Well, you can’t protect anyone if you’re afraid.” Maddie continued, breaking Phantom’s thought process. “You’ll make mistakes like this if you aren’t thinking clearly, and only put yourself in danger. We won’t always be there to protect you if a ghost gets the upper hand. That’s why you need to train more. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Mom, I understand.” Danny stepped into the shower.
“But don’t worry too much about it, kiddo.” Jack piped in cheerfully, “We’ll work more on your techniques before you fight a ghost again. Your aim could use a little work.”
If Danny was going to say anything in response, he lost his chance when the shower started up. Maddie had an extra hose she had turned up to a high pressure and was washing down Danny’s back. Phantom only watched Danny’s muscles clench at the pressure on his fresh open wounds for a moment before he decided he’d seen enough. He flew intangibly through the blast doors that hadn’t been ghost proofed yet, and he was in GZ open air.
He sighed and started the flight to the Clocktower. For once, he was glad it was so far away, it gave him plenty of time to think about what he had just witnessed.
First, there was the ghost. They were twisted beyond any form of recognition and Phantom knew that the Fentons had to have done something to them. But this was several years in the past, and Phantom had never seen anything like this before. It worried him that they could away with something like this for so long.
And then there was Danny. Who couldn’t have been more than 12 years old, locked in a cage with a feral ghost while his parents watched and gave minimal advice. And the severe lack of worry from them when Danny was hurt had Phantom seething. They behaved so clinically in response to his injury, worrying more about a possible infection than if he was alright. The proper treatment of his wounds aside, it was as if they didn’t care at all. There was no asking if he were okay, no apologies for putting him in that situation in the first place, no reassurances that it would be okay other than no visible signs of infection. They didn’t try to help him up, didn’t express worry or concern, they didn’t even save the lectures until after they’d patched him up! Maddie just went straight into scolding him for turning his back on the ghost, and Jack was already talking about the next time he would be put in the cage with a twisted being who clearly wanted to kill him.
Despite not being able to, Phantom felt as though he might throw up. This was Danny’s training. The training his parents were putting him through so that he would one day be a ghost hunter like them. A ghost hunter that he wanted to be so he could protect people from the ghosts like the one they made him fight.
A sudden memory resurfaced in Phantom’s mind, one shortly after he’d met the youngest Fenton for the first time.
‘Stop it with the act already! I know what you are!’
If that corrupted facsimile was Danny’s first and only impression of a ghost before being allowed in the field, was it any wonder that he thought all ghosts were evil and monstrous beings?
This was wrong. It was all so wrong, and Phantom needed answers now. He never liked Danny, and he’d never seen the family interact outside of working together to take down some innocent ghost, but this was not what he expected. He needed to get back to his time and talk to Danny, now.

Day 9 - Candlelight
(Mothers are the Lights of the Household)
"Mother is like a candle, who loses her own existence for the sake of her children."
-Monika Chauhan
-------
Since Day 9 (May 9th) of 2021 is coincidentally Mother's Day (and also the Fenton couple's wedding anniversary), I decided to do this fluffy fanart of Mama Maddie with her two babies, Jasmine and Daniel.
Belated Happy Mother's Day to all mothers out there! I apologize that I only posted it today, since I had some personal commitments and issues to deal with. 😅

DannyMay Day 17 & 18: Childhood & Horror- Why (It) Wont (It) Burn
FentonWorks is a place of horrible nightmares and two ignored children.
FentonWorks was a place no one wanted to go. No one wanted to pass by. No one wanted to be near. No one want to see it. All the houses around effectively abandoned.
Some whispered about trying to tear the place down or burn it to the ground. No one ever meant it though. Because that meant dealing with it. Dealing with what happened. Dealing with both the what’s and who’s inside.
And no one wanted that even more.
Everyone knew what had happened. Knew the what’s and who’s. Just because they knew doesn’t mean they had to deal with it. Had to even acknowledge it. Sure those two who’s, the little children, didn’t have a choice. But that wasn’t the town’s problem.
Even if no child was to be left behind. Even if children were the future. Even if children were the ones that should always be protected. Even if children were innocent. And sweet. And cute. And special. Even if children were meant to be protected.
That was supposed to be the parents' job. But theirs couldn’t manage that. Not before and certainly not now. Maybe. Everyone chooses to ignore that too. Whether or not the two parents stayed dead or not. No one knew what option would be better.
Just like no one knew how those two children -so young at eight and ten now- had survived there for four years. How they still survived. All alone. Hopefully alone. The town knew they weren’t really alone, but that was better ignored. Because it would be better if they were alone.
Everyone saw the what’s, the things, that fly past windows. Or stick to the glass. Stick their claws, tongues, or eyes under the door. The things that rattle the doorknobs or shake the walls. The echoing snarls, growls, and shrieks.
Everyone ignores when there are screams that don’t echo. Screams that are undoubted human. Undoubtedly small and tiny, from small and tiny bodies. No one talks about those screams.
No one wants to.
Why would they? It would mean acknowledging everything.
The exploded portal. The things it released. The parents it took. And the children it left behind.
The house kept the things contained. Whether the building did that all on its own or the children had a hand in it, no one wanted to know. But it was more than enough to leave the building untouched and still standing. It was enough to simply pretend the children barely existed.
No one was kind to them. No one helped them. But no one hurt them either.
They could walk, crawl, or run through the Casper High halls all they wanted. Could take whatever cafeteria food they wanted, however much they wanted. They could go to the theatre without paying. Or take groceries right out the doors without ever so much as glancing at the checkout.
The children were kept only in people’s subconscious memory and awareness as much as possible, after all. No one would want to interact with them enough to get payment or grade homework anyways.
But there’s somethings that just can’t be ignored. Jasmine, the responsible one. Always the one with groceries. Always the one patching up the twos wounds. Always the one speaking. So often comforting or encouraging or soothing the boy. An older sister, being an older sister.
She wasn’t okay.
There was a lot wrong with her now.
She repeated herself so much. Muttered more than spoke. Shook and shake more often than not. Her cheeks absolutely were permanently tear-stained; and eyes always rimmed red. Skinny where she was once lean. Crispy stringy hair, that was once smooth and hydrated. If anyone dared or considered to ask a professional, they’d say she had lost bits of her mind. Had broken under hardship and torment.
But no one wanted to think about that. No one wanted to know that. So no one asked, and no helped.
Even if the town, on a deep level, were terrified the girl would end her life.
Most terrified for selfish reasons. Maybe the children were all that held the things in the house back. Some because they still cared on principle, children should never die. Others because of the other child. Because of Daniel.
Daniel had become wrong not even months after everything. After the house became intertwined with death and caused it. The only sounds he ever made matched the snarls and growls, merely lacking the echo. He didn’t know how to smile; only how to bare his teeth like a threat. Hands and fingers always held like claws. Hair black and slick, that seemingly dripped like oil but only at a glance. Bone skinny yet with sharp angular muscles clinging to the bone and underneath taught skin. Pale white skin, that seemed to crack and split to leak green sometimes. Intense blue eyes, sharp as ice and sparkling in a way that eyes just shouldn’t.
He moved too fast. Stared too much. Stilled too often and for too long. He just wasn’t human enough.
No one wanted Daniel left all alone. No one wanted to know or have to see, what would become of him. If he’d became even more wrong.
But the thing everyone feared most was that maybe, just maybe, Daniel was more of a what now than a who. Was something that needed to be contained. Was the one thing that house somehow couldn’t contain.
Jasmine still treated him like a little brother. That was something. But considering her questionable mental state, it didn’t mean much. And half the time, the way she hugged him and clung to him, just felt creepy. Like an addict clutching to the drug destroying them. The way that Daniel seemed to not notice or care, didn’t help ease people’s clenching stomachs or grimaces.
What most of them thought was the worst feeling was the intrusive thoughts urging them to raise that house to the ground with all the what’s and both the who’s inside. Cleanse the town.
Everyone could tell when someone’s intrusive thought became something closer to an actual desire. With how that person would stand and stare at the house. Maybe with a weapon or gas or a lighter or a bottle of hard liquor.
No one ever actually tried. Never acted on it. Never fully meant it. Because...
Daniel always knew.
The wind would blow, the curtains inside the front window moving with the wind somehow.
And the child would be there. He’d be staring. He’d always lock eyes with whoever. And whoever would lose their guts.
It was like the boy was daring them to do it. To try it. Whether or not that was a plea or a threat, was another thing no one wanted to think about.
So the house was left alone. The things inside ignored as best as they could be. The two unfortunate children an avoided staple of the town. And everyone hoping it stayed that way.
The day they all had to deal with the fallout of that curs-ed place would be a truly terrible one. But maybe, just maybe, they’d never have to. Maybe those children’s childhood would be enough payment for whatever sin their parents committed at the cost of their lives.
Course nothing can stay the same. Nothing can stay unchanged. And somethings really can’t be ignored.
One of those echoing glowing things had shown up outside of the house.
Everyone had screamed and ran. It was unbridled panic. Panic that had stilled and stared when the boy had suddenly been there too.
Had stared and bared teeth at the glowing thing. Many could have sworn his eyes swirled with green, and white flames licked off his hair if you had looked at him right.
And the thing had shrieked. Had fled.
But wherever the thing went, Daniel was just somehow there. Why the green thing didn’t think to fly up, no one knows. At they certainly weren’t ever going to ask.
Regardless, Daniel had eventually grabbed the thing. And...
He tore It to shreds.
Ripped off chunks and scraps.
The town -or much of it, having been attracted by gossip or the chaos- had watched the small child devour the thing. Devoured one of the things they were all terrified of.
Shoved bits in his mouth and squished it to splatter around his mouth and face with white teeth.
Curled his tongue around smaller bits while tearing big bits apart with bare fingers.
Had left nothing but faintly glowing smears on the pavement, licking his lips all the while.
The boy was a predator.
And then he spoke with green stained teeth.
“You, good bait”.
The girl had skipped up on shoes not quite the right size. Had wiped his face off with a too-white handkerchief.
“Where’re your manners. Manners. Manners. Manners. Where? Manners where? Messy Danny. Keep you clean. Clean only to be messy again”.
The girl was a caretaker.
He had stuck out his tongue, dripping glowing neon green, at her. Had left that tongue hanging out while glancing around at the crowd and showing all his teeth in a mockery of a grin.
And they knew then. They weren’t letting that house stay standing. Weren’t letting the children live and do as they pleased. The children, Daniel, was letting them stick around him and his house.
End.

DannyMay Day Seventeen: Childhood
AO3
Danielle wanted a childhood. She wanted something to look back upon. She wanted to be old and graying and sitting on her porch, gossiping with her friends about this and that, and be able to say “back in my day” and go off on some unrelated tangent that would leave everyone laughing and smiling. She wanted to be alive, fully alive, so she could age and grow like a normal girl, splash in the mud and lay out under the stars with her family, or even just without being afraid of being seen. She wanted more than to melt away.

DannyMay 2020. Day Seventeen
“Childhood”
Danny sat next to his very bestest friend in all the world, Tuck, in the playground of Casper Kindergarten, eating a trusty PB&J sandwich while they shared a Crimson Chin comic book.
Danny liked better Crash Nebula because he was in space! But he wasn’t against the big-chinned hero.
There was a yell, a high-pitched scream, and then a girl dressed in the pinkest, girliest dress in creation; but it was ripped and muddy all over, and the girl herself wasn’t too better: her knees were scrapped, and full strands of her hair had fallen from what used to be a high pony-tail, some of it falling on her face, which was red with anger and from crying.
She sat near them but said nothing, so they just kept watching the colourful images in the comic.
After what for them were hours but were truly five minutes, she asked “What’r’ ya readin’?”
They turned to see she had calmed down and was curiously peering at the comic held in both their hands. Tentatively, Danny answered.
“Kimso’ Chin,”
She fidgeted for a second, then, “Can I read too?”
The boys looked at each other, surprised.
“Girls don’t like supah hedoes!” Tuck said, and Danny nodded emphatically. That was one of the few things both of them knew about girls. That and many had cooties.
But it just seemed to upset her again, because she sniffed and jutted out her chin and said firmly “Well, I do like them! So that!”
Danny and Tucker once again looked at each other, astonished. After a moment, they looked back at the girl, smiling. “Okay.”
Her anger banished and she was smiling as she skipped towards them, so she could kneel behind them and stare at the colourful images too.
“I’m Sammy, by da way!”
