Since I’m working on a few smaller projects rather than working on any brand new artwork yet I made a slightly updated version of Jazz (the left one) since I really like the slightly darker shade of red hair I use for her Unseelie AU version. She even has a beauty mark just like some of the early concept art! All I did was move it since it was a bit too distracting when I had it closer to the mouth. Apart from that I kept most of the design the same to give Jazz more of a college freshman style look.

Early production deep-dive - Part 4: Web information
On the next annual upfront of the channel, hosted on March 19th 2003, Nick would announce the show once again, this time getting more attention, enough to prompt internet users to go fishing for more information.
On the Nicktoons Forum of the site Animesuperhero, one person returned with hot news after checking the crew’s personal sites.
“Title -  Danny Phantom/Crash Nebula/Kim Possible Artwork  have you guys seen this? http://www.silvertoons.com/silvertoons/portfolio.asp” (Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20210413012318/https://animesuperhero.com/forums/threads/danny-phantom-crash-nebula-kim-possible-artwork.3384331/)
“Title - Danny Phantom /Crash Nebula Theme Song i apologize if this has been posted but http://butchhartman.com/html/danny.htm and then http://butchhartman.com/html/crash.htm has the theme (im guessing) rolling in the background.” (Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20210413012313/https://animesuperhero.com/forums/threads/danny-phantom-theme-song.3407701/)
The first link led to Stephen Silver’s personal site, specifically, his ‘Portfolio’ section where he displayed several of his character designs for the shows he worked on, including Danny Phantom background characters, ghostly villains like Lunch Lady and Skulker, and of course, the main character himself. These were publicly shared as early as July 13th 2003, presumably even earlier.

[Image Description: Six images of the designs shown in Stephen Silver’s site, most are small and in low quality.
Image 1 - Screenshot of a site, the background is black and the title ‘Portfolio’ is on top in red letters. Underneath it are four rows of six images, with multiple character designs on each one, some with black backgrounds but most with white ones.
Image 2 - Two rows of three characters each. First row features ghost cowboys and the second row shows human cops.
Image 3 - Two rows of two characters each. First row shows the ghost Lunch Lady and a human chef. Second row features a human janitor and a human lunch lady, with a different design than the ghost Lunch Lady.
Image 4 - Two rows of two characters each. First row shows designs for the Technus/Skulker fusion armor and the second row shows a character in both human and non-human form.
Image 5 - Three rows of characters. First row shows one adult and three kids, the first two are background characters while the third one is presumably an early design Danny and the fourth is presumably an early design for Tucker. The second row has three human kids and the third row shows Danny twice in his Phantom form.
Image 6 - Two rows with one character each. The top row features Skulker, in an early design where his ghostly hair was orange instead of the usual green. The bottom row shows the design for a non-human character, most likely a ghost. /end ID]
The second link led to Butch Hartman’s site, which had sections for audio clips of his shows, where he had uploaded the original (first version) of the Danny Phantom theme song as early as July 4th 2003.

[Image Description: Two images taken from the 2003 Butch Hartman website.
Image 1 - Screenshot of the site, the words ‘Butch Hartman’ are displayed in white on the top left, with seven circles with different images underneath, that each lead to a new section of the site. There’s a drawing of himself on the top right corner and the background of the whole site is a light green. The current section’s title ‘Danny Phantom’ is displayed in white colors, with the text ‘Coming Soon!‘ underneath. There’s an illustration of Danny on the left.
Image 2- An illustration of Danny in his Phantom form. He is wearing a black jumpsuit with white gloves, boots, collar, and a white stripe around his waist. He has white hair and green eyes. He is looking to the right with a serious face while standing on a flying blue machine. His hands are grabbing the handles, there’s a green button between them and the machine is releasing air below it. The background is purple. This is the same illustration of Danny on the left of the 2003 Butch Hartman website. /end ID]

Guess what I got in the mail today (no really, I got this an hour ago)?
Stephen Silver's Character Design Roughs
Stephen Silver has worked on many shows from Danny Phantom, Fairly Oddparents, Kim Possible, and many more.
No, I'm not going to post any pics from the book because I don't want to be a spoiler, but I will give you insight on what's inside.
The book is composed of different character rough sketches of the shows Stephen worked on. He gives little notes of his work process, shapes, and etc. This is not your traditional 'The Art of' book, it won't go into heavy details of the show or characters, but you do see amazing concept art of your favorite characters. The way sketches are laid out are similiar to the cover: some are layered on top of another while others are spaced out giving you a good view of the artwork. I really enjoyed my copy, I still wish I could see more of Stephen's work, but I was still satisfied.
My favorite works in the book:
Concept art of a Rufus plushie eating a naco (it was a taco, but I'm gonna say naco), he looked so cute!
Danny's concept art of him in a vest that gave me Marty Mcfly vibes (Danny's voice actor actual did voice Marty in the BTTF animated series).
Dan Phantom's (Dark Danny) concept art, he looked really cool.
Jazz's concept art.
The ghost trio sketch because they had a ton of personality in that pic.
Mystery Inc (Yes, Scooby Doo is in here too).
FOP.

ART STYLE CONSISTENCY
For my animation practice I want to spend more time on my artstyle consistency for animations.
PLAN
I will utilise the plethora of animation model sheets that can be gathered on the internet and create short animations whilst attempting to stay as on model as possible. Many animated TV series have artwork completed by character designers to get a concrete feeling for the show, they are always simplified versions of the character concepts submitted by the showrunner/ creator.

EXAMPLES
-Stephen Silver (Johnny test, Danny Phantom, Kim possible)

hey! weird question but what do you think inspired your art style? i find it really appealing and i'd love to hear how you developed it, natural or otherwise :D i hope you're doin okay in general, i checked out your ziggy animation and i absolutely adore it, you've got a good handle on expressions and it's kind of inspirational for me :')
hey thanks for sending this -- i have to admit, this message means so much to me, it really makes me smile because ive been struggling with having any confidence in artwork rn (’: thank you so much for enjoying it .... you really brightened my whole day lol
ive been drawing ever since i was little, so i think drawing the way i do just happened as a gradual product over time without me consciously trying. whatever media you like, you’ll probably emulate it a little, and that’s always amazing because it shows who you are by what you like!
like a lot of people i started off drawing by drawing kind of crude anime stuff, and then i got more into western comics/animation.  really liked cartoon network, nickeldeon, genndy tarkakovsky (samurai jack) and stephen silver (danny phantom) especially. i just would copy art from tv shows/artists i liked, and then you learn to find what you like about it. i also drew a lot of jhonen vasquez (invader zim) + drew rausch (no tv show, he makes comics) style stuff becuase i loved really crazy expressions and i liked the really pointy straight lines (not so much into curves or soft shapes).
when i got more into art school i did a lot more academic style studying (like lifedrawing) which definitely always helps, but i found what i enjoyed most and what helped me find a way of drawing that made me happy was just looking at art i liked and being more conscious of why i liked it.  ex. i like rob renzetti stuff, i liked it because i like the shapes.  time to try to see if i can work with shapes like he can.
all in all it’s just a product of drawing what you like while also maybe doing a little studying on the side.  try to draw like artists you like and you’ll just pick up their habits that you enjoy and you can ditch the parts of them that you aren’t into.  if you like realism, look at realism, if you like that in between anime-ish sort of realism, look at that, if you like cartoony stuff, look at that.  and try to do it all i guess!
it’s 4 AM ... this might not make much sense but i really wish you luck in drawing and i bet your stuff looks awesome !!

I realized I've never taken any character design courses in my life, so I guess that's why I struggle with finding my style and feel so unconfident, so I just started this week Stephen Silver's course of fundamentals of character design. He is the creator of characters such as Kim Possible and Danny Phantom. So here's to learning and improving everyday 🥃 :) . . . . #drawers #artists #artnews #artistsoninstagram #illustration #inking #sketchbook #drawing #draw #comics #adandays #comic #art #artwork #blackandwhite #sketch #ink #mexico #stephensilver #digitalart #photoshop #characterdesign #whiskey #cartoon @stephensilver7 @schoolismlive #schoolism

Danny Phantom Randomness (Jazz’s Anime Eyes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was organizing my collection of screenshot references when I noticed this. Well, I noticed a long time ago in the first episode but I kinda love the anime eye look Jazz briefly had. I wonder if that’s slightly reminiscent of her early character designs by Stephen Silver...?

Quick disclaimer, I obviously don’t own any of these images. These are just concept drawings Stephen Silver did for Danny Phantom I’ve never seen before so there’s a good chance you guys haven’t either. I just wanted to share them since I found these purely by chance while searching for storyboards for the show, mainly the unused intro sequence since I want to make a nod to it in a possible short animation for my Psionic rpg maker fangame with the flashlight portion which is sadly super blurry in the videos.
Anyways, with that out of the way here’s what I found!
Link (to the official website these are from): https://sketchalley.com/art_show.php?art_id=471
Bonus (here’re a few other ghosts too and an unnamed human villain I think):
