Nightwing's car guy
Dick was doing well to establish himself in Bludhaven. He had an apartment, it was shitty but it was his. He had a day job as police officer, half the people there were in the cartels Nightwing was trying to crack down on, and the other half were in the cartels Nightwing was still trying to trace. He had his suit, still bat-grade, blue instead of the red, yellow, and green Jason got to wear now.
He did't have a cave. Or maybe it should be a nest because the whole bird thing. Burrow? What was the thing owls lived in called? The point is he made due without it. He had his apartment, and he had his supplies stashed away. It wasn't as much as in the Cave, but he didn't have Cave-funding. He could make due.
He didn't have an Oracle in his ear. But that came with the added bonus of not having a Bat either. He could do his own research, find his own information. And it wasn't like he and Babs were totally cut off. It was just only a little weird, because she was technically his ex. Sure she would be in his corner, but she was still his ex. He needed to save some face. Especially since he knew that Bruce and Babs liked to... talk. He could make due.
The only thing Dick was maybe, sorta, just maybe having a little trouble was with his bike. Well it wasn't his bike, it was Nightwing's. Which was precisely the trouble. He'd found a place to stash it, but Dick had never been a car guy... or in this case a bike guy. He would chase his rouges, speeding through the streets, and sure the bike was made for the tight corners and quick turns and the high speeds, and sure it could take a hit or two. But what about three or four? Or five?
Point was Dick needed a car- a bike guy. One that was cheap (he was only a cop), and knew how to not ask questions and keep his mouth shut (again- Nightwing's bike). All that on top of knowing enough on how to fix his bike. (it wasn't exactly the type you could find in store).
But the solution seemed to find him. Which Dick was aware was not generally how it worked, but he would count his blessings. He had been out on patrol, the type that had involved his bike and high speeds. Unfortunately it did not involve the perp in handcuffs and on his way to jail. Dick had been on his tail, could've had him too, if the bike hadn't started sputtering. Dick had done as much as he could for it, but she really needed a pair of eyes that actually knew what they were looking at.
Mumbling curses to himself, Nightwing had been ready to head off to at least catch a dust trail of what operation he'd find himself in next. He could feel the eyes watching him. His hair stood in edge, and when Nightwing turned to look around he couldn't see anyone. Maybe he was being haunted. Trying to arrange his bearings, Nightwing turned back around to get on his bike. When there was suddenly a mop of choppy black hair couched down next to it.
Nightwing blinked at him. How had he managed to get there? "Uh, something you need, man?" Nightwing asked the boy, totally not freaked out.
The boy- teen, he was only a year or two younger than Dick- looked up, large blue eyes staring. As if it was odd for Nightwing to have addressed him. It took him a moment longer to realize that the bike was, in fact, Nightwing's. "You need to change your [important engine part]." He pointed lamely, standing up to his height of only a hair shorter than Dick.
"How do you know that?" Nightwing asked before he could think of the danger the unknown person might pose.
"That's why it was making that sound. It'll put too much pressure on the engine so it won't be able to go as fast it would be otherwise. Which, I take it, would cause you problems." he tipped his head in the direction the rouge had run off in.
Nightwing considered it for just a moment, not wanting the perfect opportunity to get away from him. "Do you know how to fix it?"
The guy looked almost offended, "Yeah."
"I'll pay you." Nightwing jumped at the opportunity, "If you fix it."
Any normal person would've said no to a guy dressed in bullet-proof spandex with a blue bird on his chest and a weird mask. "Sure." He shrugged easily, a glimmer of excitement in his eyes as he eyed the vehicle. After a moment, "Name's Danny, by the way. You'd probably need to know that." Danny eyes his suit, "Who are you, like, blue-jay?"
"Nightwing." He corrected easily, his name hadn't made the streets yet.
"The Robin reject?" Was Danny immediate response, eyebrow arched up in amusement.
"The what?"
Danny grimaced, the laugh never leaving his face, "Ooh, sorry. Touchy subject?"
"I am not a Robin reject." Dick couldn't tell this civilian that he was Robin. Had been.
Nightwing's bike ran better than it had since he had moved to Bludhaven after Danny had gotten his hands on it. And Danny's payment of ("i don't trust ur money, just buy me food") lunch had been a steal in return. Maybe next time they should go somewhere a little nicer.
Because the bike was doing so well, after Danny fixed it.
Not for any other reason.

A DC X DP #18
You want a taste of my brain? Okay, it's yours anyway.
Imagine dis…
This time I get inspiration from an A03 fic, and some of its parts just stuck with me and now I’m writing about it, if some of you want to read it go for it. If you are asking for the name don’t ask, I am not going to sell my soul to the devil to find it in my ever-growing history. If you do manage to find it, kudos to them.
TELL ME I AM GETTING DESPERATE OVER HERE
Credits to them as well. Also, as you’ve noticed I decided to post less, now it is due to a good old lack of inspiration. So, don’t go getting your hopes up on this one.
…
Ever since Danny Phantom had become the Ghost King he repeatedly entered the reincarnation cycle willingly to retain his morals when he was human. He still retained his ability to stay in the middle of life and death. But when he as the High King of the Infinite Realms gained immortality he found himself losing his ideals and values, he began forgetting. With Clockwork’s insistence, every few hundred years he would become human to experience a lifetime. Sometimes he would go another round in the same dimension, but only when he needed to finish an unfinished business.
Sometimes he is lucky sometimes he is not.
Sometimes he would be born into a loving family with either as the only child or him having siblings. He has experienced the life of royalty as the heir prince. He experienced the life of a knight who was known for his skills with the sword. He was born into a normal family which made him second guesses his every choice due to his lack of normality in his life. He was also born into some wild dimensions that of which could look like it came from a book. From wizards and sci-fi worlds, he never had the time to sit and be an extra.
But there were also times he was born far too unlucky.
He was born in a salve ridden society, a parent who were core members of a rebellion so when his current parents died, he was expected to be like his parents. Born in a society where the rich trample the poor and he was forced into early child labor as expected in society to work at a very young age. Born where he and the people around him had never seen peace in a war-consumed country, a war that separated his family from each other not knowing whether one is alive or not, leaving only him and his siblings to stay alive. Being abandoned by a pair of druggies for his parents left alone inside a dumpster and died in the middle of the night, looking through the dimension he saw that some homeless people found his body and reported it to the authorities leaving his parents in jail while some prisoners seem to leave them at the near bottom of the hierarchy in prison.
…
It seems this time he was born in an assassin cult this time he wasn’t alone. A twin, an older sibling that was with him in the womb and both came into the world together. The moment he laid his eyes on his grandfather he can already tell that he is a major fruit loop from the way he both look at both of them.
His name is too formal for his liking, Dylan Al Ghul, he already convinced Damian to call him Danny when it was just the two of them. Danny tries to downplay his abilities both ghost and human seeing that his grandfather is too power-hungry to the point of misusing ectoplasm that is corrupted but still ectoplasm to achieve some sort of immortality, he tried to give Damian a childhood in the form of showing him the stars whenever he could sneak him outside. He saw the absolute worship and awe Damian would give to their mother and their grandfather whenever they visit or supervised their training, Danny didn’t care for their approval nor their presence but seeing his brother seem to at awe and do anything to please the two made his heart shatter, his older brother never needed to prove anyone something.
Danny has repeatedly shown his disdain for the two most powerful people in the organization yet it is a miracle he still lives. It is because he is a spare, a spare yes not the heir but a useful spare one, twins one who specialized in stealth and espionage a twin who is a perfect copy of Damian aside from his eyes mirroring their supposed father. Both Talia and Ra seem to make it their life mission to drill his only purpose in his head, it may have never worked due to his adult mind but he pretended it would be as to not raise any suspicion.
…
The day Deathstroke attacked not only he dared to kill the demon head but also choose to kill the chosen heir, by removing an eye and some of his organs as a form of slow torture but also killing him as he made the organs unable to go back to their owner’s body.
Danny couldn’t look away from his bloodied brother, Talia slowly approached him from behind and put her hands on his shoulder, and whispered some honeyed words on how his role as the spare will be fulfilled at a much earlier date and promptly injected with a sleeping drug.
…
Danny was already awake when he noticed the cold metal bed behind him the lack of clothes as well the number of doctors seemingly in a rush to prepare for a last-minute surgery. He saw the unconscious form of Damian on the other side and suddenly heard the loud ticking noise of a grandfather’s clock.
It seems that it was meant to be, Danny thought as an image of Clockwork flashed in his mind.
He fell back asleep knowing that Damian lost an eye, kidney, a lung, some ribs as well an ungodly amount of blood, possibly more. Danny knew that this vessel of his wouldn’t survive at the sheer need and he already felt that he would not leave the room alive. So, he took one last peek at the sleeping Damian and promptly closed his eyes, the moment he opened his eyes once again he was back in his chambers in the Infinite Realms clutching his left eye in his face whilst looking at the mirror as he felt his eye be the first one to be removed.
It seems this time he died months before he and his brother celebrated their 10th birthday.
…
Damian woke up with a pounding headache being the assassin he is he immediately looked around seeing that his last memory is being tortured by Deathstroke.
He immediately took notice of his loose clothing and tried to walk towards the door but his knees immediately gave out. As he tries to gain his bearings, he noticed a scar right in the middle of his chest, it couldn’t be from the time when he was captured by Deathstroke as he noticed that this scar is too clean, too sterilized as if someone had just come out of a surgery type of scar. As he tries to loosen his shirt to take a better look at his scar when he noticed a mirror facing his way and noticed his eyes, instead of his usual pair of emerald eyes he was greeted with an emerald eye of his own and his brother’s icy blue eye in his left eye.
Damian remembered that Deathstroke took out his eye, as according to him it reminded him of the Demon head, and decided to promptly pull it out with his bare hands.
Dread began to fill his very being and tried to go and look for his brother but deep down he already knew what happened to him after all, he is the heir while his brother his beloved younger brother is just a spare.
…
When Damian had met his father’s wards most of them commented on his heterochromia eyes and promptly greeted back with his sword in their faces.
The rest grumbled that Damian couldn’t take a tease or two, but immediately chased the demon brat as he chases each and one of them with the intent to kill.
Damian couldn’t tell them; another son was hidden from Bruce. Another son he had failed, another son who died before they could even meet him.
From the first few interactions he had with his father when he first met him, he knew where his brother’s bleeding heart came from.
Sometimes he could still see him, Dyl- no Danny, every time he looks in the mirror. The constant reminder that his brother was seen by the league as nothing but a spare. Whatever love he had for his mother disappeared the moment he laid his sight at his brother’s eye embedded in his supposed empty eye socket.
The constant reminder that shows every time he looks at the mirror and the scar in the middle of his chest, Danny’s organs that were used on him to ensure his survival while Danny was left behind.
…
He was 14 years old when he went wide-eyed at the stranger across him and his brothers in a heavily populated area.
A teen looks exactly like him with a medical eyepatch on his left eye as he sits in a wheelchair chatting idly with an older man.
Damian heavily thought of a clone, did Talia, not mother never mother, make another clone after him after weeks of silence?
Damian still remembered the first time he encountered a clone with blue eyes, his running theory is that due to his new organs have bonded with him thus creating a batch of clones with blue eyes. Timothy had spoken up that since babies have a 50/50 chance of inheriting the colored eyes of either parent made a new branch of clones.
Damian was already planning on disposing of the supposed clone when the said clone suddenly laughed exposing his neck that have a feign white line across indicating a scar. But that scar made Damian double guess, all clones he encountered are scarred free thus leaving him to have no trouble disposing of each and one of them but the existence of the scar he barely caught is something both brothers swore secrecy to it.
The laugh oh god, his laugh, only his brother laughs like that, Damian thought mournfully.
As he tries to look the other way, he suddenly faced the same doctor who was the assistant doctor that foresees his surgery years ago. He may have distanced himself from the League after he had fulfilled his debt but it was no mistaking that it was the same doctor that operated him that time.
A chemist they said, an insufficient man who is more cowardly than any other man yet his talent in poisons made him quite a gem in the League.
A clone who had broke out of their collective mind control? Possible, but why this clone? What made this look alike so special that this man dared to leave the League?
…
Robin began to follow the two, the other bats thought that he had a new case on his lap that requires recon. They didn’t question Robin’s new behavior as they have seen him do the same actions when he landed himself a case or when he was following a lead. Yet they couldn’t shake the feeling that something is not right, whether it is the fact that Robin refused any assistance or just the fact they have no idea what kind of case Robin is working on.
They should have listened to their guts then maybe they wouldn’t be surprised at the bat screen, showing a maternal and paternal match to a picture of a blue-eyed black-haired kid with a medical eyepatch on his left eye looking like Damian in a good day.
…
Danny was doing some paperwork when a flying thought passed by him about his last reincarnation. All memories from his adventures when he got reincarnated are usually put behind the back of his hand yet worries about the well-being of his brother made him distracted, and kept close a special one-way mirror to monitor his baby brother.
Danny felt nostalgic at the family drama and chaos that he can’t help but cackle at each interaction Damian has with their father’s adopted children and wards. He found himself majorly of his time watching for hours and hours, he can’t help but wish he was there. As if he was summoned Clockwork appeared in front of him and told him to go back, which confuses Danny since it was Clockwork who implemented that he cannot go back to the same dimension/ world if his body is too far gone to be revived by him, yet Clockwork told him to give someone named Alfred his regards and vanished. Looking bewildered at his mentor/ grandfather he tried to sense his vessel with little to no hope seeing that the League has his body, but surprises himself when he felt his own body submerged in a portion of the Lazarus pit.
…
Going back, he was greeted by an assistant doctor that used to be in the League due to his ancestor’s debt. He explained that he cannot in good conscience do what he was instructed to after the operation, stole his body, and submerged it in an undiscovered pit due to its small size, enough to dump a child not enough for a grown adult.
After an initial check-up, both he and the doctor discovered that the mini Lazarus pit regenerated all of his organs except his eye seeing that it was his entire body submerged excluding his head. The assistant doc theorized that those organs of his may be weaker since they were generated from nothing, Danny in all his eldritch glory as well as being the most powerful being across the Infinite Realms played his part perfectly of a now disabled child.
After all who would accuse this disabled child putting the daughter of the Demon Head in an endless nightmare by his command to Fright Knight? Who would accuse that innocent blue eye of his that he had killed any assassin in their tail ever since he and his now temporary guardian began exploring the world? Who would accuse an adorable child that he was the one who had put the Joker in a definite MIA? Who would accuse this child who smiles like the sun despite his setbacks be the one who tortured Deathstroke to the brink of insanity? Danny is pretty sure his temporary guardian knew of his secret endeavors but remained quiet due to his habit when he was in the League or just to prevent any grayer hairs from growing in.
…
Now if only his brother stopped moping around the building across their apartment complex and just come inside, he made his infamous fudge to share with his brother. His brother didn’t have to drag the rest of the bat brigade in watching him across the building, he even made extra fudge, if only they could just go through the front door instead of rescuing him first in every rogue attack and pretend, they don’t him. Well, if they are playing a game then count him in to win. But for some reason all of them made a face of being constipated whenever they talk to him, Danny is so sure he used clean ingredients to make his fudge…
God dammit just enter the front door like a normal person, better yet tell Batman to stop looking at him as if he died! Those windows are not paying to fix themselves each time one of them decided to stop dropping and roll every other night!
…

I nearly fell out of bed from flailing about when Scott burst into my room collapsing onto my bed on Monday morning. I wiped my eyes sitting up tiredly and slightly annoyed. I dropped my arms on the bed rolling my neck to crack it.
“What?” I grumbled staring down at him, his eyes were wide like he was freaked out by something, this woke me up a bit more sitting up straight folding my legs into me. “What is it?”
“I had a dream,” he muttered sitting up suddenly making me jump back hitting my head on the headboard, I groaned grabbing the back of my head squinting my eyes at Scott completely unaware of my current injury, “I had a dream I hurt Allison,”
“Well, did you kill her?” I yawned getting up from bed heading to the bathroom
“I don’t know, I just woke up,” he looked up at me worried. I sighed giving him a gentle smile.
“It was just a dream Scott,” I scrunched my nose up catching the scent of something that smelt like a rotting animal. I was able to pinpoint it to Scott. “You stink,” I pinched my nose jokingly at him, he grinned grabbing one of my pillows throwing it at me as I laughed going into the bathroom shutting the door to take a shower.
When we got to school, we met up with Stiles and Scott told him about his dream as we walked into the school. The two of them walking on either side of me.
“I was sweating like crazy and it was like I couldn’t breathe; I’ve never had a dream like that before,” Scott admitted as we walked down the hall to our lockers.
“Really? I have. Usually, it ends a little differently,” I smacked Stiles chest in disgust, and he chuckled a goofy grin on his face.
“Gross,” I stated as we continued walking
“A: I meant I never had a dream that felt that real and B: Never give me that much detail about you in bed again.” Scott shook his head probably trying to get the image out of his head.
“Okay, you two are gross. There are in fact, some things I don’t need to know,” I shuttered at the image running through my head of Stiles and his alone time, turning down the hall to my locker leaving them to their boy talk.
When I walked by a window, I looked out noticing a bus with its back door open and bent hanging on barely by its hinges. There were blood marks splattered all over the inside of the bus some in the shapes of handprints and a pool of blood on the bus floor right at the edge of the exit doorway. I could make out what looked to be claw marks on the bus door and inside on the seats.
My mouth dropped as I walked out a door and noticed Scott and Stiles with the same expression as they walked out another door. I walked over to them slowly not being able to take my eyes off the gruesome scene. Cops were around it, taking evidence photos and collecting samples.
“Scott,” I whispered in disbelief, still stunned by the sight in front of me. Stiles leaned over closing my mouth for me and I shook my head trying to pull myself together. The smell of the blood started to take over my sensitive sense of smell and quickly became the only thing I could smell. I covered my nose with my hand trying to dull out the scent.
“I think that the dream you had, happened,” Stiles muttered just loud enough for us to hear. Scott started to hyperventilate grabbing his phone texting Allison repeatedly but not getting any response back. Stiles and I quickly followed behind him trying to calm him down but failing.
“Scott I’m sure she’s fine!” I tried to reason with him, but he wasn’t listening only focused on searching the halls for her. “It could be just a coincidence!” I yelled he turned to face me his face full of panic.
“A coincidence? KAC ARE YOU SERIOUS!” He yelled turning back heading down the hall, I quickly grabbed Stiles by his arm as Scott went around a corner, stopping him.
“I have to get to class, tell me if she’s okay,” I whispered he nodded giving me a silent apology for Scott before going after Scott.
I stared at the clock in my first class bouncing my foot the entire time from my anxiety and impatience. I pulled my phone out periodically staring at the screen waiting for some sort of text from either Scott or Stiles or hell even Allison telling me that Scott didn’t accidentally kill her last night.
This went on for my first three-class and I quickly went to forth sitting down at my desk staring with an intense gaze at the door as kids filed in and I let out a sigh of relief when Allison walked in smiling over at me coming to sit down in the desk next to mine.
“Your brother scared the hell out of me this morning,” She laughed, and my heart picked up a little
“What do you mean?” I asked laughing a little nervously pulling out my books for the class from my backpack. I grabbed my phone sending a quick text to Stiles.
Thanks for letting me know! You ass!
“I ran into him this morning out of nowhere and dropped my books,” she answered I opened my mouth giving a silent ‘oh’ as the teacher started class. The teacher paired us up for an assignment. Allison and I mostly sat in silence as we worked on the assignment exchanging notes here and there. My phone buzzed on the desk I picked up looking at the screen seeing a response from Stiles.
Sorry! We saw the guy who was attacked. Wasn’t a rabbit.
“So uh, has Scott said anything about me?” She asked nervously breaking the silence pulling me out of my thoughts. I looked up at her confused raising an eyebrow at her, a small smirk tugging on my lips. I quickly locked my phone setting it back on the desk choosing to ignore Stiles's text and how a rabbit had to do with anything.
“Like what?” I asked playing it off as if I didn’t know what she was talking about. I saw a small blush creep onto her cheeks, I shook my head smiling over at her letting out a soft chuckle “All good things if that’s what you mean.”
“I can just never read what’s going on in that head of his,” She admitted sitting back in her chair, I laughed writing an answer down on my paper.
“Allison,” I looked up at her, “You’re like the first girl he’s ever, well he’s ever done anything with besides me. I’m pretty much the only girl that talks to him.” I said finishing up the worksheet, I glanced over at her and could tell she was deep in thought.
“Hey,” She looked up at me “It’s a good thing, Allison, he really likes you. Just don’t think about it too much, Scotts an honest guy,” I grabbed her hand giving it a squeeze and then the bell rang. I packed up my stuff leaving the room to the lunchroom.
Stiles, Scott and I walked over to our usual table over by the windows after grabbing our food. I sat down next to Stiles so Allison could sit next to Scott.
“Did Scott tell you his crazy idea?” Stiles asked looking over at me. I grabbed a piece of broccoli off my tray eating it.
“No,” I said my mouth full “What is it?”
“He wants Derek to teach him how to be a werewolf.” I looked between him and Scott and shrugged not seeing an issue with it. I had been thinking about it myself. It was better than stumbling in the dark with all this werewolf stuff.
“It’s not a bad idea,” Stiles's mouth opened in disbelief and he looked genuinely offended that I didn’t agree with him.
“Are you two forgetting we put him in jail?” he asked I shook my head setting my fork down
“First off, you two put him in jail. Second, he’s clearly been doing this a lot longer, he might have some good pointers.” I pointed out picking up my fork again eating another piece of broccoli
“Some good pointers? This isn’t some sport Kac,” Stiles said pulling out his phone, I rolled my eyes and then Lydia sat down next to Scott and then some kid that was part of Jackson’s group sat at the head of the table and Danny sat on the other side of Stiles. Mid-bite I looked at Stiles confused, and he had on the same confused expression.
“What are they doing?” I whispered only loud enough for Stiles to hear but knowing Scott would also be able to hear. Stiles was too stunned to care and Scott just shrugged. Jackson came up kicking the kid at the head of the table out. Allison came over sitting down on the other side of Scott and I smiled at her.
“So, I hear they're saying some type of animal attack, probably a cougar?” Danny asked looking over at Jackson, I looked down at my food trying to keep calm.
“I heard a mountain lion,” Jackson responded, I grabbed Stiles orange that he was still trying to peel and peeled it for him handing it back. I heard his phone buzz and he pulled it out.
“A mountain lion is a cougar.” Lydia responded quickly looking over at Jackson “Isn’t it?” she played off, I rolled my eyes at her. Lydia was actually really smart, and you could tell she played it down in front of Jackson.
“Who cares?” Jackson said a bit annoyed
“Maybe some of us with a brain,” I said giving him a fake smile and he narrowed his eyes at me.
“The guy is probably some homeless tweaker who’s going to die anyway,” Jackson spat ignoring my comment, I looked at Stiles's phone as he had a video pulled up.
“Actually, I just found out who it is,” Stiles said turning the video so they could see.
“The sheriff's department will inspect the details of the incident but confirmed that Gurus Myer, did survive the attack. Myers was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.” The newscaster reported
I looked at the photo of the guy and I recognized him, I looked up at Scott and he was looking at me. I pointed at Stiles’s phone.
“Isn’t that our old bus driver?” I asked him
“Yeah, when we used to live with dad,” he answered, my eyes widen and before I could say anything else Lydia spoke up.
“Can we talk about something more fun, please? Like,” I rolled my eyes grabbing my roll ripping a chunk out of it “Oh where are we going tomorrow?”
I nearly choked on my food opening my water bottle taking a sip, Lydia gave me a weird look before turning her attention back to Scott and Allison.
“You said you and Scott were hanging out tomorrow night, right?” She asked leaning over the table to look at Allison. I looked over at Stiles and he was sitting back in his chair annoyed. I took another bite out of my roll a little annoyed and Stiles raising his eyebrow at me in question.
“Um, we were thinking of what we were going to do,” Allison questioned looking at Scott and he looked bewildered. He clearly was not expecting Lydia and Jackson to be coming along. I gently hit Stiles's leg as his eyes went wide, he looked at me confused motioning his hands at them and I shook my head in response. He sighed folding his arms over his chest.
“Well, I’m not sitting home again watching lacrosse videos so if the four of us are hanging out, we are doing something fun.” Lydia looked between Scott and Allison waiting for a response.
“Hanging out?” Scott questioned turning to face Allison, I could tell she also was not expecting that either, “Like the fours of us? Do you want to hang out like all of us?” I scoffed and Stiles elbowed me, and I almost choked on my water glaring up at him.
“Yeah, I guess. Sounds fun.” Allison answered with a smile. I scoffed again getting another jab from Stiles, I gave him a look to stop that.
“Yeah Scott sounds fun,” I said sarcastically laughing to myself plopping another piece of bread into my mouth ignoring the glare I got from Lydia.
“How about bowling!” Lydia said excitedly “You love bowling!” Jackson rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, with actual competition.” He answered taking her hand giving it a squeeze.
“How do you know, we aren’t actual competition?” Allison gestured to her in Scott and when I went to answer I received a kick from Scott who shook his head at me.
“You can bowl right?” Allison asked Scott and I could see him start to panic and it was taking everything in me to not start laughing. Scott was a terrible bowler, our mom used to have birthday bowling parties and he hated it but always put on a good face for mom.
“Sort of,” he mumbled out
“Is it sort of? Or yes?” Jackson was starting to get cocky now and push his empty tray aside leaning against the table. Scott sat up a little straighter leaning more towards Jackson.
“Yes,” He responded my eyes widened a bit, you seriously cut the testosterone with a knife at this point. “In fact, I’m a great bowler.” Oh no.
After the final bell rang and school was done for the day, I walked with Scott and Stiles heading towards the student parking lot. I was laughing about Scott in the cafeteria and his newfound skill of being able to bowl.
“Kacy will you stop!” He yelled getting annoyed with me shoving my shoulder. I tried to apologize but couldn’t get the words out just a loud snort was all that came out as I tried to get air into my lung’s tears forming in my eyes.
“You’re a terrible bowler!” Stiles yelled just as panicked as Scott. As we walked down the stairs Stiles grabbed a hold of my arm pulling me down them while trying to keep me standing from me laughing so hard.
“I know!” Scott yelled turning to face us, I stood up straight stopping my laughter after seeing Scott was really upset about this. “I’m such an idiot!”
“Scott that was bad,” I said dragging out the bad.
“It was like watching a car wreck,” Stiles admitted, I winced a little but nodded in agreement. “I mean first it turned into the whole group date thing and then comes that phrase.”
“Hanging out?” Scott questioned turning to Stiles.
“You don’t hang out with hot girls,” He said putting his face in his hands “It’s like death!”
“Stiles don’t be so dramatic!” I said putting my hand on his shoulder he pushed it off looking back at Scott. He was clearly having a moment.
“If it’s hanging out, you might as well be her gay best friend.” I rolled my eyes at him “You and Danny can start hanging out.”
“How is this happening,” Scott whined clearly panicked by Stiles's words of wisdom.
“Scott it’s going to be fine!” I reassured “Think of it as a chance to get to know her more. You know, bond.”
“Bond? BOND! Kac!” Stiles freaked out throwing his hands up in the air, I shrugged still seeing nothing wrong with it.
“I either killed a guy or I didn’t and why isn’t this happening to you!” Scott turned pointing over at me and I threw my hands up questioning the same thing myself.
“I don’t think Danny likes me,” I hear Stiles mutter
“I don’t know Scott maybe it’s the stress your feeling. Or the anxiety of it all?” I questioned shrugging my shoulders. It hadn’t crossed my mind why some stuff was happening to him and not me. I made a mental note to check out my room to see if I had a midnight rendezvous last night
“Yeah, I’m feeling stressed Kac! I asked Allison on a date and now we're hanging out!” I sighed dropping my head a little in frustration.
“I’m telling you Scott; it isn’t a bad thing! Girls like to hang out!” I reassured
“Am I unattractive to gay guys?” Stiles asked but Scott and I continued with our conversation ignoring his question
“and now the team captain wants to destroy me,” Scott held out his phone checking the time, “and now I’m going to be late for work.”
“Wait, Scott!” Stiles yelled after him, but he was already out of the building. I patted Stiles's shoulder.
“Am I unattractive to gay guys?” He asked a little concerned, I scoffed shaking my head walking out of the school.
“Wait Kac! Am I?” He yelled after me and I just waved him off getting on my bike to head home. When I got home, I went up to my room to inspect it. I stood in the doorway dropping my bag inside it looking at every corner, but nothing seemed out of place. I sighed grabbing my bag pulling out my homework, I was almost done when Scott got home.
“Did mom let you have the car tomorrow?” I asked him when walked by my door, he stopped turning to come into my room. I looked up at him and he sat down on the bed sighing.
“No,” he answered disappointedly, “I even brought her dinner.”
“Ah she saw right through you, didn’t she?” I joked closing my book leaning back on the pillows. Scott sat up looking at me.
“Do you want to go to Derek’s?” he asked suddenly, I gave him a questioning look.
“Why?” I asked finally after a few minutes of silence. He groaned throwing his hands up not sure himself as to why or if he even should. I stood up slipping my shoes on. “Come on,” I said walking downstairs to our bikes making the decision for him.
We got to Derek’s and a cop was pulling out from the house. We stood at the edge of the property staring up at the half-burnt house. You would think he would find somewhere else to live. Somewhere maybe with a roof? But that’s just me.
“I know you can hear me,” Scott said speaking in a normal voice, I put my hands in pockets eyeing the old abandoned house that appeared to be vacant but it was the faint sound of a heartbeat that let us know Derek was there.
“We need your help,” I said, we walked up to the house onto the deck and the door opened and Derek stepped out onto the porch standing in front of Scott.
“I know I was part of getting you arrested and announced you here to the hunters and I don’t know what happened to your sister, but I think I did something last night,” Scott admitted, Derek looked between Scott and me. Holding his gaze on me, my body tensed up the hair on my arms standing up.
“And you didn’t?” He asked me curiously, I shook my head no and he raised his brow in question.
“Should I have?” I asked not understanding what he was getting at, he nodded his head.
“Yeah, you should have,” He answered, I frowned not liking that answer. Was something wrong with me? Why was all this bad stuff happening to Scott and not me? My eyes widened a little, but I tried to stay calm.
“I had a dream about someone, but someone else got hurt and it turns out that part of the dream might have actually happened.” Scott sounded defeated while telling the story to Derek. I stepped closer to Scott.
“You think you attacked the driver?” Derek asked staring at Scott very intensely.
“Did you see what I did last night?” Scott asked abruptly.
“No,” Derek said plainly, I looked at him confused.
“Derek, what are you getting at here?” I asked crossing my arms
“Just tell me the truth, am I-are we going to hurt someone?” Derek glanced over at me and then back to Scott.
“Yes,” I let out a breath that I didn’t know I was holding in.
“Kill someone?” I asked barely above a whisper looking at Derek directly in the eyes. He seemed hesitant to answer me.
“Probably,” He finally answered, my body began to heat up from annoyance to anger. I mean what did this guy know. He doesn’t know Scott and me.
“You know, what do you know Derek!” I spat angrily at him I turned to walk away but Scott grabbed my arm stopping me. I followed his gaze to my fingertips noticing the claws. Dammit.
“Look,” Derek sighed moving closer to us, we looked up at him defeated and he knew it. “I can show you how to remember. I can show you both how to control the shift, even on a full moon. But it’s not going to come for free.” He finally said I scoffed shaking my head.
“Of course, it isn’t,” I grumbled kicking a rock off the porch, I felt my phone vibrate and I looked at the screen and Stiles's name appeared on it. I shoved it back in my pocket choosing to read it later.
“What do you want?” Scott asked not looking up at Derek, I imagine Scott and I both had the same expression. Fear coursing through us at what Derek was saying.
“You’ll find out,” He glanced over at me and I looked away staring out in the forest. “But for now, I’m going to give you what you want. Go back to the bus, go inside. See it, feel it. Let your sense, remember for you.”
“That’s it? Just go back?” Scott asked disbelief in his voice we both looked back up at Derek.
“Do you want to know what happens?” He asked us, Scott looked over at me and then back at Derek.
“I just want to know if I hurt him,” Derek shook his head with a smirk.
“No, you don’t, you just want to know if you’ll hurt her or if you’ll hurt him.” Derek’s gaze landed on me and I quickly looked away, Scott looked over at me, but I kept my gaze at the floor focusing on my heart trying to keep it at a steady pace.
“Let’s go,” I muttered hoping off the deck going over to the bikes.

“The Snake Awakens: John Kreese”
Chapter one
A new nurse named Nicole pushed a man in a wheelchair into the TV room. The man with gray curly sat still and stared blankly at the space in front of him. Her co-worker Jack asks, “What’s so special about this guy that he gets private TV time; plus outside time?
Nicole said, “He’s got a very rich friend who owns this place. The guy demands that Kreese be kept separate from the other patients.”
“I heard that’s because he fought with other patients and they’d kill him first chance they got. Must be nice to be a troublemaker and get special treatment.” Jack said.
“The head nurse Dottie told me the other staff are afraid of Kreese She’s the only one that can deal with him.”
“Why? This guy’s a harmless gork?
“Shh, if Dottie hears you use that word, you’ll get fired.” Nicole said. “Besides, I learned in psychology catatonic people can hear you, they just don’t react. Plus, they go in and out of consciousness.” She grabbed the remote and turned the TV on and put on a local news station. The show was discussing current events in the Valley. One event was the All Valley under 18 Karate championships. The newscaster was discussing the surprise entry of a karate dojo called “Cobra Kai.”
Then man named John Kreese launched himself out the wheelchair and landed in a karate fighting stance. “Cobra Kai never dies” he shouted, repeatedly. John and Nicole stood in total shock. John continued yelling and threw punches into the air. Jack ran over to John and put a hand on his shoulder. “Calm down buddy” he said. John grabbed Jacks wrist, twisted it until Jack was laying on his back on the floor. John then lifted his foot and stomped on Jack’s face. “That’s for calling me gork!” Nicole stared at John as she backed away from him.
“Hey Dollface, I’d never hurt a pretty girl like you.” John said. “Come here, I need to ask you a favor?”
“What Mr. Kreese” Nicole said with her back against the wall.
“Can you please get in touch with Terry Silver?” John asked. “Tell him the snake has finished brumating. He’s chosen to emerge and got business to take care of. Also, tell him to bring Cigars.”
Nicole nodded and ran out the door to the receptionist desk. She pushes a red button on the wall. Red lights flash and alarms blare. Two men dressed in security uniforms stormed into the room. John crouched into a fighting stance and shouted, “It’s party time.”
Behind the security, an older nurse named Dottie sprinted into the room. “I should’ve known security was for you. Nice to see your awake, John. This place been boring since you been asleep.”
A security guard walks over to John. “Sir, you need to calm down. If you continue to be loud and violent, we’ll have to sedate you.”
“Oh Hell No! The poor man just woke up and you want to sedate him already?” Dottie shook her head. “Damn shame!”
“Dottie, it’s the same old shit they been doing to me for the past 30 years.” John said “This time, I won’t let them put me back to sleep.” He grins at the security guards. “Hey fella’s wanna dance? I need some sparring practice.”
“You need a little shot so you can calm down.” The security guard reaches into his pocket and pulls out a syringe. “Now we can do this the easy way, or the hard way. Just stand still and this won’t hurt a bit.”
John yells “Strike first, Strike hard, No Mercy.” As he punches the security guard holding the syringe. The second guard says, “Well guess it’s the hard way.” And runs towards John He tries to tackle him, but John leaps away from him. He then does a flying knee onto the man’s stomach. Then grabs the hair and punches him square in the face.
Dottie sees the guards are out cold on the ground. She runs to the phone on the wall. She picks it up and yells, “Hello, we need all the security in the TV room stat!” Dottie listens to the phone. “Why? Cause Kreese is awake!” she said. She hangs up the phone. She throws back her head and laughs. “Now it’s a party.” She sits down and props her feet up on the table. “This shit’s better than a Jackie Chan movie. Too bad I don’t have popcorn.”
Four Security guards’ race into the room. They surround John Kreese. “Huh, That all you got?” John said as he throws a hook kick into the face of the third security guard. He then spins and hits another with a round house kick. Two security guards sneak up on Kreese and grab him by the arms. John Kreese breaks out of their wrist grabs and punches the guard on the right. He then does a front snap kick and makes the guard falls. Kreese picks the guy up by his hair and punches him in the face, knocking him out.
He then side kicks the other guard in the knee. You hear a loud pop as the guard screams. John then trips the guard and he falls to the ground. John then kicks him in the face repeatedly. blood all over his face. All the guards are knocked out cold.
Dottie stands up and claps. John bows to her and she bows back. “Now, can you behave until Terry gets here?”she asks.
“Sure, if you guys let me practice. I’m a little rusty. Took me way too long to beat those guys.” John said.
“You don’t fool me, when you’re alone in you room, you do karate. When no ones watching, you practice until you’re ready to strike.” Dottie said.
John just got down on the ground and did pushups on his knuckles.
Chapter Two
Terry Silver sat at his table eating lunch. His phone rang and he looked at the caller ID. His heart sank when he saw the number of the veteran’s psychiatric hospital. He knew this call was going to be the one saying John Kreese died. With a lump in his throat he answered the phone. “This is Terry.” A woman’s voice answered that he didn’t recognize. “Hello Mr. Silver; this is Nicole a nurse that takes care of John Kreese. I’m calling with a message from him.” Terry let out a long sigh of relief. “Thank-God” he muttered. The woman said, “Excuse me, Mr. Silver are you still there?”
“Yes, I’m here. Tell me the message.” Terry answered.
“Mr. Kreese said that “This snake’s brumating and he’s got business to take care of. He also wants you to bring cigars.” The woman said.
Terry threw back his head and laughed. “Johnny boy’s back!” He shouted as he pumped his fist into the air. “Tell him Quicksilver’s on his way.” He was so excited he hung up without saying goodbye. He jumped up from his chair so quickly it fell over. He sprinted to his office and grabbed some cigars. Then, he ran to the garage and jumped into his car. He started the engine and raced down the driveway. He drove to the security gate and stopped. Mike Barnes stuck out his head and asked, “Hey boss where you are going in such a hurry?” Terry shouted, “. I just got a call from the hospital. The snake has awakened” Terry laughed when he saw Mike’s shocked expression. “Listen, I’ll call you when I have more information.” After the gate was raised, Terry stepped on the gas and drove away.
As he drove towards the hospital, Terry recalled past events with John Kreese. Especially the ones after their ill-fated attempt to get revenge on Danny and Mr. Miyagi back in 1985. Terry realized too late that the revenge plot did a lot more harm than good for his dear friend. He should’ve listened when John tried to talk him out of it. Things got much worse when John tried to reenlist in the Army. They turned him down saying his mental state wasn’t fit for combat. This major defeat plunged John into a deep depression. The poor man gave up all hope.
Terry tried to help by offering his friend a job as bodyguard or security, but John refused. He said it was a handout and told Terry to go to Hell. The next morning, John’s room was empty except for a note. It said “Dear Terry, I’m sorry for what I said. I don’t want the job because I’m no good to anybody. I’m a broken man that can’t be fixed. You’re better off without me. Love John. P.S DON’T TRY TO FIND ME. THAT’S AN ORDER!” Terry burst into tears as he crumbled the letter. He ran to the wall and punched holes in it. He grabbed his hair and screamed. “Screw your order! I’m coming for you Johnny.”
He ran down the steps into the room where Mike Barnes, Snake and Dennis were staying. “Kreese is gone, I want you three to find him. I’m going to hire a Private investigator to get intel. You guys will bring him back. Understand?” The three boys nodded. “Prepare to leave soon, I don’t want his trail to go cold.” Terry left to find his personal assistant and receptionist. “Margret and Milos, come to my office.” Terry shouted into the intercom. He wiped tears from his eyes as he walked to his office. He bumped into Milos on the way. “Mr. Silver what’s wrong?” Milos asked.
Terry gasped and tried to hold back a sob. He swallowed and choked out. “John’s gone! He left a note saying not to find him.” Margret overheard this as she walked towards them. She put a hand on Terry’s shoulder. “Oh dear, such a shame.”
“I’m going to find him. I’ll never give up on him.” After saying this, he let the sobs came full force. Margret went to embrace Terry, but was pushed away by Milos. Milos raised his hand and slapped Terry full force in the face. He shouted, “Pull yourself together. You’re doing no good standing here blubbering like a baby!”
Terry let out a deep breath and wiped his eyes. He nodded. “Let’s get down to business. Milos use your contacts in all the hotels within the state to keep an eye out for Kreese. Margret, start looking up private investigators and fax them John’s picture. Tell them to check all the homeless shelters. Especially veterans’ shelters. Also cancel all my meetings here and overseas. Finding John is my number one priority.” Both Margret and Milos nodded. They went into Terry’s office to carry out the orders.
It took a month before he got his first lead on John. John Kresse was excellent at staying hidden. A private investigator found him in Los Angeles at a homeless shelter. Terry decided to go with Snake, Dennis and Mike. When John saw them, he tried to run away. The four men chased him and caught him.
John sobbed and said, “I gave you an order to leave me alone! Go away!” Terry hugged him tightly and said, “Screw your order. I owe you my life! Remember Cobra Kai for life, if your brother has a problem you all have a problem. I’ll never give up on you.”
They managed to get John to come back home to Terry’s house. Terry thought everything was going to be okay. He could keep an eye on John and take care of him. He told Mike, Snake and Dennis to also keep an eye on John. He tried to get John to train them in Karate. John shook his head and walked away. John mostly stayed in his room and hardly spoke to anybody. He didn’t eat or sleep. A few days after John arrived, Milos and Margret sat down with Terry.
“Mr. Silver, we need to have a word.” Milos said. He cleared his throat. “It’s about Mr. Kreese.”
“He’s not a well man. This time he’s much worse than ever before.” Margret said.
Terry glared at them. “Yes, I realize that. I’m taking care of him.”
“He needs professional help. Without it, he’ll get much worse. He needs to be hospitalized.” Milos said.
“Bullshit!” Terry shouted. “I would never dump him in a loony bin. I owe that man my life. Hell no!” He started to walk away but Milos grabbed his shoulder. Terry shrugged him off and turned towards him.
“Sir, Mr. Kreese is on the brink of a major breakdown. If something’s not done, you’ll lose him”
Terry shoved Milos. “I said No! Cobra-Kai takes care of his own. John’s my brother and you don’t’ abandon family.”
Two weeks later, Terry learned the hard way that Margret and Milos were right. It was the middle of the night when Milos ran into Terry’s room. “Mr. Silver wake up! It’s Mr. Kreese, he’s standing on the ledge threatening to jump. Terry ran to the balcony, the same one where John handed him the dojo keys. Where Terry told John he’s going to Tahiti. Terry sadly realized a trip wouldn’t help John this time. He should’ve listened to Margret and Milos. Terry decided he’ll do anything to help his friend.
He walked slowly to the ledge. “Johnny, what are you doing?”
“This time I’ve given up for good.” John said.
“Defeat doesn’t exist in this dojo, right? Cobra Kai never dies!”
John turned and glared at Terry. “Cobra Kai is dead and I will be soon.”
Terry smiled, “Alright, I’m right behind you. When one of you makes a move, you all make a move.”
John threw back his head and laughed. “Don’t you know by now the lessons I taught are Bullshit.” John walked closer to the ledge and lifted a leg up on it. Terry followed him and took his hand. “I’m right beside you, brother.” Then in a quick, sudden move, Terry jerked John’s hand backwards and flipped him onto the ground. Then he grabbed John around the neck and put him in a choke hold.
He said, “I’m sorry” over and over. After John was out cold, Terry dragged him back inside. By then Snake, Mike and Dennis ran into the room. Milos was with them. He walked over to John with a syringe in his hand. He stuck ii in John’s arm. “That should keep him out for at least 8 hours.” Margret walked into the room. She handed Terry a piece of paper. “Here sir, is a list of Veterans hospitals and other mental health facilities. I suggest you start calling right now.”
Terry ran to his office and called the first name on the list. It was a private sanatorium in downtown Los Angeles. Terry spoke to the head psychiatrist and was told all the beds were full. He shouted, “I don’t care, kick somebody out! I’ll give a million dollars cash to get my friend in there.” Suddenly a bed was free.
That was back in 1986. The start of many hospital stays for John Kreese. Terry had to gain legal and medical power of attorney and get John declared incompetent. For the past 32 years, John was bounced around from one veterans psyche ward to another. The first private sanatorium kicked John out because he constantly got into fights with staff and other patients. He also escaped many times. So, Terry tried having John live in halfway houses. John would be okay for a while, take his meds and keep his appointments with doctors. Then he’d go off his meds and disappear. Terry lost count of the many times he dropped everything to find and help his friend.
. John got a reputation for being difficult, a “problem patient” The hospitals had to have security constantly watch him. Many times, John was neglected and mistreated.
The hospitals idea of treatment was to overmedicate him and strap him down to a bed with a strait jacket on. One-time Terry dropped in unannounced and was horrified to see John was locked up in what was called “The Hole” John was soaking wet and covered in bed sores. He was also severely malnourished. Terry knew this was illegal but didn’t pursue legal action. He handed down his own brand of justice.
Terry remembered how angry he was. He called Snake, Mike and Dennis and told them he had a job for them at the hospital.
Terry and the boys beat down the security guards. Then they put them in strait jackets. “All right Gentlemen, now the real pain begins. You think what you did to my brother was bad? But you guys are tough, you can handle it. Such big men who abused an elderly war hero. “
Those men didn’t leave the Hole for a week. No food and water. After they got let out, they ran away. After that, Terry vowed his brother John would never be mistreated again. He bought the facility and hired staff that would give proper care. He let a few other Vietnam Veterans in, but the place was mostly for John.
After buying the place, Terry went to see John every day. Despite having the best care, John sank deeper into depression and PTSD.
“Why do you bother? I’m broken and will never be fixed. Let me go.” John begged.
Terry hugged him, “Never! Johnny, you’re my brother. All the family I’ve got.” Terry held John as he sobbed.
As John got older, the depressive episodes worsened. He couldn’t let go of the past, and attempted suicide many times.
“It’s all my fault, Terry. They’re dead because of me. I didn’t listen and forced them to show mercy to those kids. I don’t deserve to live. Let me die.” John said.
“No, you had no idea how that was going to end. Stop blaming yourself. I’m alive because of you. You came to find me and carried me out of the jungle to safety. You took me under your wing the very first day I’ got to Vietnam. You taught me Karate. I owe you everything. I’d die without you. ” Terry said. Terry pulled up his shirt. He points to the Cobra Kai tattoo. “See this, it means brothers for life. Our bond goes deeper than the ink on our tattoos. It goes to my heart.”
Then 5 years ago, John gave up completely and became catatonic. He wouldn’t’ respond to sound or touch. He had to be fed through a tube. It seemed like John had no idea who Terry was. No matter what number of medications he got, he didn’t get well. Seeing John like that broke Terry’s heart. He couldn’t handle John’s blank stare. He saw John less frequently. It got to the point where Terry went to see his old friend every six months. He always called to check up on him.
Then Terry heard about shock therapy. Doctors did more research on it and found that it helped catatonic patients. John received these treatments for the past 6 weeks. Apparently, the treatment worked. Johnny boy was back. This is the happiest Terry has been in many years. He couldn’t wait to see his old friend.

I’m Back Bitches!!
You probably thought I jumped off a cliff and forgot my parachute. Well, that actually did happen, but wings do come in handy sometimes. Here I virtually stand in front of you all, as an almost 22-year-old, and guess what? I am still kicking it with the same mentality. I just looked back at all my posts on here from since I was 18 and quite literally nothing has changed with me, which is a little astonishing.
I still wonder why I’m not loved, why I’m not successful and why I’m unsatisfied with my current locale.
To give you a half-assed update on where I’m at in life, I’m back in school. I’ve been back almost a year and a half now. It’s crazy to think that at my age, I should be graduating in less than a month, but because of my blissful ignorance as a blossoming adult, I am in all ways, paying the price. So it’s projected that I’ll exit the wretched higher education system by spring of 2021 or sooner. And that’s fine. I mean it isn’t, but for all extensive purposes, it has to be. Although, I’m thinking about potentially transferring. I don’t know where. I want to go out west but not California if that makes sense. It’s just that we live in such a sensitive time as a country, that I almost wonder if it would be worth it to go anywhere without experiencing a load of culture-shock, politics included. And I worry that whichever place I do decide to go to, if any, will be a major determining factor in the future of my music career.
Though I truly despise MTSU, the town in which it is located and of course mostly everybody that resides in that town, for once in my life I am hesitant to depart. Running away has always been such a thrill for me, but I have noticed that with each thrill comes a moment of sedentariness---like my life is a movie and I keep pausing it to run to the bathroom. The plot will run its course as it does, but the juicy action is delayed by my bladder’s negligence, ahem, I mean my negligence. I’m going to explore transfer options, but if most of my credits won’t transfer, hence my graduation date will extend, I’m willing to stick it out here for the remainder.
Why do I want to leave you ask? Well, like I said before, I don’t like anything about here. The concept of “there” seems much more tantalizing. Murfreesboro is just a town posing as a city. It’s pretty much a Dollar Store version of Hendersonville. I really detest suburbia because it attempts that city-like vibe, except all the buildings are as short as Danny Devito and homeless people don’t even try to entertain you for their buck (no offense to the homeless, issa joke). I want one or the other, no in between. I want city life or I want country life. I’ve lived in this suburban hemisphere for far too long, and I’m too young and spritely to be desperately waiting behind a horde of soccer mom vans at the Chik-Fil-A drive-thru.
Plus, I don’t like anybody here. No disrespect to the people who choose to live down in “the ‘boro.” If it works for them, that’s great. But it doesn’t work for me, and that is why I feel as though these people are not my people. They’re a different tribe, and some are a special kind of (inbred) breed. Okay maybe that was disrespectful, but hey this is my fucking Tumblr and 2019 is my declared year of savagery, so proceed, Queen *she says to herself*.

DOWNTOWN URBAN ARTS FESTIVAL Celebrates Its Sweet 16
by BWW News Desk Feb. 16, 2018
This year marks the Season Sweet 16 for the powerful Downtown Urban Arts Festival (DUAF).
The five-week art & culture showcase supplying audiences with live stage works, independent film, cutting-edge music and envelope-pushing poetry, will take up residence in some of lower Manhattan's most thrilling and celebrated spaces.
Running from April 7 through May 12, artists with their finger on the pulse of what the city is thinking will present their works at Theatre 80 St. Marks, Tribeca Film Center, New York Live Arts, Joe's Public at The Public Theater, and Nuyorican Poets Café.
The original theater series (Downtown Urban Theater Festival) was founded in 2001 for the purpose to build a repertoire of new American theater that echoes the true spirit of urban life and speaks to a new generation whose lives defy categorizing along conventional lines. That purpose has since been realized in more than 200 plays created and refined for the stage by more than 170 writers from America's burgeoning multicultural landscape. The addition of film and culture has made DUAF a marriage of the original Fringe Festival and Cannes.
DUAF is produced by Creative Ammo Inc. (CA), a nonprofit community development organization for artists focused on building stronger communities founded in 1998. CA has created solid programs to strengthen communities, foster creativity and celebrate life through art. Artists are an important leverage point in its work. Its mission is to cultivate vibrant communities by connecting artists with the skills and services they need to develop their talent into a marketable skill to pursue a career in the arts. Its programs are inclusive, open and embrace diverse ideas and art forms, and target communities of color and other underrepresented multicultural, women and LGBTQ populations.
This year, the opening night celebration will feature The Voice finalist and teenage sensation, Wé McDonald, who will perform live at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater.
DUAF's film series features the finest works from a search that yielded more than 1,400 submissions for around the world.
And finally, this year's poetry season, called WORDS MATTER, will be a community poetry slam and forum on current social issues. Local poets and audience members can recite their best poems and compete for a cash prize. 2016 Nuyorican Grand Slam Champion Jaime Lee Lewis is the host and special guests have included Lifetime Achievement American Book Award winner, Miguel Algarin.

A: No. Our course is all you will need.
Q: Will I be properly trained if all I take is your online Law of Attraction Practitioner Certification program?

When we factor in airfare, hotel, time away from work and family, etc. the costs both monetary and otherwise quickly add up. For this reason, many institutions have turned to online training as a viable alternative to meeting modern day needs. In fact, Columbia, Harvard, and Cornell have extensive online programs. Also, Penn, Dartmouth, and Yale offer online classes. Steve G. Jones, while working on his doctorate in education, extensively studied the online programs offered by Ivy League schools. He then was able to take what he learned from the curriculum and combine it with Dr. Joe Vitale’s adept knowledge on the Law of Attraction to create a Law of Attraction training program that offers a similar level of training. Additionally, in this course, you are encouraged to find a study partner and to practice your techniques on a number of people.
Q: What about licensing requirements For Law of Attraction practitioners. Are there any?
A: At this time, to the best of our knowledge, there are no licensing requirements For Law of Attraction practitioners anywhere in the World. However, if you start a business, you will generally need a business license.

A: A Law of Attraction Practitioner qualified by our standards to teach and practice the mechanics involved in the Law of Attraction.
Q: What Do I get When I Buy the Law of Attraction Course?

A: It takes about 2-3 weeks if you move quickly by reading the manuals.

I've been to Wildwood. The Jersey Shore is crazy in general but wildwood is next level. The board walk has like 200 of the same t-shirt store, feels like you're walking through the fires of hell, and is jam packed with kids on camp trips. I've only ever done the board walk there but I've seen the walk you have to take to get out to the beach, it's insane. I can only imagine what it's like with family. How old are your cousins and what are they like?
My family has literally been coming to Wildwood every year since, like, at LEAST the 1930’s, I’m not sure on anyone earlier than that, and my family is insane, so let’s dive into this.
The Main Characters In My Life On Vacation Are:
-My Grandmother, who was a child dancer star (she tapped on the radio!) who’s been coming down here her whole life- her parents used to come down the same day there would be a talent show, enter her in it, and then use her first prize reward for the money they’d spend throughout the week. Has been in the old person stage of “I’m an elder, who cares what I say or do” for the past 15 years. Has eight living kids and Too Many Descendants. Loud and refuses to admit she can’t walk half the time.
- My Mother, who gets confused very easily, overshares and breaks off into meaningless tangents in the middle of stories, snores like a literal demon, always wants to be asleep, keeps pushing for family activities, doesn’t realize all the kids think she’s lame.
- Me, who is always Extra Depressed in the summer months, and is the Sole Person In This Family My Age- everyone just stopped having babies for a few years when my mother decided to have me (Everyone is either over 25 or under 16). Because of this I’m usually confined to my room, unable to really do anything on the boardwalk because going on rides alone is depressing and my mother has heart problems. Just wants to read and write, but the children keep Screaming.
- My Aunt and Her Husband- A Very Loud Couple, she likes to control everything and he’s the only one who ever bothers to yell back at her. They always fight exactly once, every year, and every year somehow I always end up being the only other person in the apartment while its happening, so I just have to sit in awkward silence until my aunt finally huffs out “I can’t believe you’re doing this in front of my goddaughter!” and storms out to go find her kids. They make a lot of jokes and think their children are very dramatic.
- Jenna, the 14 year old cousin. Very dramatic. Mastered the art of the eye roll at a young age. Has literally looked like a mini model since she was born. Can’t be bothered to deal with anyone. We usually have one (1) tiny girl-bonding moment each vacation and then she promptly acts like she doesn’t care even though it’s clear she does. Athletic and artistic and musically/theatrically gifted. Very sarcastic. Always doing cartwheels.
- Seanie, the 12 year old cousin. Middle child syndrome. Tries to hard to be funny for attention. VERY dramatic. Will cry at the drop of a dime (I’m typing this and I literally just heard him burst into tears in the other room??). Super adorable, you can tell he’s gonna be one of those high school boys that pulls Ridiculous Shit but after one charming smile the teachers can’t bring themselves to stay mad. Very loud. Currently addicted to video game youtubers.
-Zack, the 7 year old cousin. Adorable. Loud. Lowkey a prodigy child but they can’t afford to get him into Special Schools so he’s always bored in class. Baby Of The Family syndrome. Currently in an aggressive pokemon phase. Doesn’t understand he’s literally a child, he acts like an old man half the time.
We’re all shoved into a small apartment for a week, but there are Others:
- Kathy, Grandmom’s second oldest. Literally the most bland person I have ever encountered on this planet. Very, very into trying to plan ‘fun’ family events. Thinks any conversation is a riveting conversation.
- Kathy’s husband, who is just a plain old guy who’s lowkey a hoarder and jokes around a lot, but every time someone mentions his past or his family it gets more and more confusing??? He may have a brother who was in the CIA??? He may have been homeless or he may have lived with his sister???? He may have killed a man???? I literally know nothing concrete about this man other than he’s apparently been with my aunt since they were teens but I. D. K. Every new piece of information I receive just scatters the puzzle more.
- Their eldest daughter and her husband spend most of the summer down here but always make sure to match up the schedule for when we come down. Loud, energetic couple. I have no idea what either of them do for work? They might currently be unemployed? Really into alcohol. At some point in the week every year, everyone in my apartment bonds together to diss them after we get back from the beach. Like, they’ll do something or another EVERY YEAR that sets EVERYONE off.
- The 16 year old. Tries to show everyone memes on his phone. Never really talks to people. Does NOT get along with his parents because he’s kinda an outlier in the family. I feel like he might be a stoner, but if I find out he’s got a hidden gun collection, I wouldn’t be surprised? That probably sounds awful but he’s a good kid I promise.
- Danny, 12. Adorable. Quiet. Mini golden boy. Makes jokes when you aren’t expecting them. Very resigned to the fact he has to hug me and my mother when he sees us.
- Kathy and Mystery Man’s youngest daughter, a librarian, and her stand up comedian husband, and now their three month old who is ADORABLE and everyone was surprised to learn they hadn’t named her Hermione.
Other recurring family members are prone to popping up throughout the vacation- Aunt Margie, Grandmom’s sister-in-law, who, I love her, but remember that chocolate episode of spongebob with the old woman that was essentially a stick in a wheelchair and had a chain smoker voice??? Put that in the tiniest bikini you can imagine and add a wheezing laugh and you got her. Her daughter who I could not recognize on a street if I tried. Her son Michael, who is best friends with my mom and apparently Not Gay (no one’s really convinced). A step-cousin sometimes pops by, she’s very breezy and easy-going and you can’t distinguish her Actual Talking Voice with her Talking To Little Kids Voice.
Anyway, Wildwood itself is just. Goddamn ridiculous.
The aesthetic of this place is somewhere between the 1950’s, a trailer park, and the kind of developed land you get when a moustache-twirling man wants to convince all the old people he can to retire to his buildings. Some buildings are harsh metal, and others are bright pastels, but the only thing joining them together is the fact that it looks like no one has cleaned anything here in years. EVERYTHING, even the knew stuff, looks worn and faded. Even like…the AIR is faded. It’s not just the sun being too bright, everything you’re looking at looks like it’s an old photograph. If you stay too long, you might start to fade into the landscape yourself.
I have never once seen an animal that wasn’t a seagull here. Most towns, islands, places, whatever- you usually have at least squirrels running around, maybe some variations of birds, just. ANYTHING. But it’s all seagulls all the time. You cannot exist in a spot for longer than a few moments without one of them dive bombing you. They are not mere birds. They are feathered demons that Hath No Fear Of The Foolish Mortals Of Mankind.
The song “Wildwood Days” plays on the Boardwalk every half hour. It is the only way to appease the spirits. It’s the modern, New Jersey-ian version of painting lamb blood over your door frame. As much as I’ve grown to hate the song, to twitch and clench my fist at each note, I deeply fear for the day the song doesn’t play on time and the curse is unleashed. I have a deep, sinking feeling that this moment will come within my life time.
If You Don’t Stop To Watch The Fireworks, Your Bones Shall Never Be Found.
You hear the ongoing chant of “Watch the Tram Car, Please!”, and look around, but there isn’t a Tram Car coming. The order grows louder and louder. You realize you aren’t even on the Boardwalk any more. The sound is right behind you, but you can’t find the source. “Watch the Tram Car, Please!” you realize, to your horror, the sound is now coming from inside you. You never find your true voice again.
Despite The Fact That This Place Is A Mosh Pit Of Families From All Over The World, If You Can’t Immediately Place My Accent Or Figure Out What Language I’m Speaking, I Have Legal Grounds To Kill You.
The sand simply isn’t normal. It’s ADVANCED sand. It doesn’t make sense. It never truly washes off. The more you scrub, the more appears.
Ancient gods from multiple pantheons like to chill out on the beach, have a few beers. You never know for sure who is who, but you Know they aren’t the same as you, and you know they know more about you than you’re comfortable with. For your own sake, NEVER ask them to turn their music down.
There is always at least one plane flying over with a sign reading “Jen, will you marry Sean?”. It’s been decades. Will Jen ever say yes?
Elevators Are For The Weak And We Use Them To Judge Who To Do Away With First.
The ocean goes back and forth between green and grey, and you know the color makes a significant difference but you can never quite put your finger on what.
Fish Are Fake.
All the stores sell everything you want, but nothing you need.
King Kong Is Our Fierce Protector, Loving Hero, And Just Enforcer
All the police officers and firemen and general ‘in charge’ jobs seemed to be run completely by 18 years olds
No one truly knows who pulls the shots when it comes to deciding the Boardwalks style each year. Every store sells the same Designated Style, and each year they make less and less sense. You buy a specialized hoodie anyway, and you have no idea why.
I could keep going on with that list, but the point is, Wildwood is a Strange Place and I have a Ridiculous Family, so every year is always a bit of an experience.
Like, no one in my family really has anything in common other than everyone’s always loud and everyone’s always right and everyone is always ready to loudly fight over the fact that they’re definitely right, but like. Imagine crawling through some Hillbilly Murder Showers in the garage of a condo, using all of your force to pry open a suspiciously heavy and questionably mechanized door, walking under the boardwalk and trekking over sand dunes just to find a bunch of screaming yet physically relaxed people under the flag for Montserrat. Some guy’s cracking stand up jokes while no less than three children are fighting each other, your mother is promising for the 14th year in a row that you’re gonna go on a whale watching trip and everyone knows she’s lying, some woman’s trying to hold a conversation about buying applesauce in bulk while her husband and children get drunk, there’s a skinny pale guy with horrible sunburn blasting songs from N.W.A., a girl’s cartwheeling around the site to the point you think she doesn’t know how to move any other way, a boy’s quietly drinking pickle juice, there’s a 7 year old literally trapped in a giant hole that he dug, your mother is snoring loud enough to alarm the people around you, and just when you’re starting to get a little comfortable about the feathered demons and start to relax, a tide comes in so strongly your chair literally starts getting pulled out to sea with you in in. It’s average. It's fading into the landscape with the rest of the place.
#I was gonna make this Funnier and go into more specifics about my family but im literally about to pass out so night#wildwood#family#vacation#molly's memories#asks#molly mumbles

17...lil mama had a swag like mine, even wear her hair down her back like mine.
Hey, what’ve you been up to today?
I have unsuccessfully tried to make songs/beats, stopped at a Casino/Gas Station and drank a chocolate milkshake.
Do you like Chinese food, Mexican food, or American food better?
Depends on my mood/cravings.
Is your TV HD?
Don’t have a TV. We just stream crap off our phones.
What’s your favorite thing to order from Taco Bell?
Crunchwrap Supreme.
What do you think of off-brand soda?
Tastes about the same for a fraction of the price.
Do you save pennies?
You'd be surprised how handy pennies can be. During the half-year I spent homeless, even a penny was a commodity.
Are there any windows in your room?
We live in an 18- wheeler, I’d be worried if there weren’t any windows.
Do you like hot, cold, or lukewarm showers?
Scalding hot…then I turn it to ice cold right before I get out to neutralize my body temp so the air doesn’t feel cold. It’s the same concept as jumping in the regular pool after soaking in the hot tub.
Do you know what all the buttons on your remote control do?
Definitely not.
Do you smoke cigarettes?
I’ve almost exclusively switched to vaping.
What about weed?
If it’s offered, I usually oblige…but I prefer uppers and psychedelics, any day.
Do you pluck your eyebrows?
Yeah.
Do you keep your room clean?
Not by choice, I’m messy by default but Brandon’s kind of like Danny Tanner from FullHouse with the clean and orderly shit. I make a conscious effort to be neat but I feel like that’s even still too messy by his standards.
Do you carry a wallet or a purse?
A purse(which conveniently fits a wallet).
Would you rather it rain or snow?
Rain. Snow means shoveling and that is literally one of the most annoying things ever.
Dark hair or light hair?
I’ve dyed my hair both and I’ve liked people with both. No strict preference either way.
Do you grit your teeth a lot?
If I do, it’s probably when I’m asleep.
Do you like when it snows, or does it just ruin your plans?
Snow *looks* pretty, I'll give it that much credit, but is otherwise massively inconvenient.
Do you like the taste of beer?
Yeah, I don’t mind it.
Have you ever had Vodka and Red Bull?
Yup, they’re great. It’s been awhile though.
Furthermore, what’s your favorite energy drink, if any?
Those non-carbonated Iced Tea Monsters.
Do you have long eyelashes?
Errr? Not longer than they should be?
Do you have long fingernails?
Naw, I bite those motherfuckers before they even stand a chance.
Do you have long arm hair?
I don’t know, been shaving my arms every day since I turned 14. I have an anti-bodyhair agenda.
Do you shave your legs?
Every day. Refer to previous response above re: my anti-bodyhair thing.
How often do you wash your hair?
Like every other day.
Does your family put up Christmas lights?
My folks still do, I believe.
Do you use a closet or a dresser to put your clothes in?
Tote/cabinets. Living on the road is weird like that...but I don’t really care because if I had the space they’d just be in heaping piles everywhere.
Which do you like better – carpet or wood floor?
I like how wood looks and it doesn’t need to be vacuumed.
Have you ever done drugs?
I’ve dabbled around with a few.
What kind?
Maybe I use dabble too lightly. hm. Other than the standard cigs, booze and pot...I’ve done coke, e, molli, meth, adderall, acid, mushrooms, dmt, pain pills.
What’s your favorite fast-food restaurant?
Burger King, Taco Bell
Do you like kids?
There are definitely things I like more than kids…but I don't hate ‘em. They’re just a big responsibility and I'm pretty wishy washy with responsibility.
How often do you like to have sex?
No preference… I don’t have like a specific frequency or anything.
Do you do your own laundry?
Yes.
Do you have a cell phone or do you use a house phone?
Cellular device. My folks still have a land-line though.
Do you throw shit under your bed?
I don’t have an under the bed currently but if I did fuck yeah I’d throw shit under it. That’s the real primary function of beds/closets.
Are you any good at math?
Can’t even deal. Even basic math fucks me up…The concepts seem so abstract and irrelevant to everyday life experiences (despite the irony many of them probably have mathematical components).
Do you like Dairy Queen?
Love it.
Are you currently in college? If not, do you plan on going?
Already went. Got my Bachelor's in 2011. In retrospect, I possibly could have waited tables and recreationally abused substances without accruing 8 grand in student loans. Suppose the chief perk is that all employers seem to think highly of college graduation and it looks good on paper.

Ir0n F*st: Eh, what? (with background Asian count)
Spoilers follow:
Episode 1: Enter the White Dude
Hi, I am Singaporean Chinese. Yes, Netflix is available here and yes, they are trying to sell this to us.
Secondly: I do read comics, but the whole “he was white in the comics” thing does not fly–see article for context. This is 2017, not 1974.
Thirdly: the creators of Iron Fist were fetishising the heck out of kung-fu movies when they wrote the comic back in 1974. And they are crusty old relics that use the word “Orientals” even though it’s 2017 and they know it’s not the right word (but use it anyway in interviews).
Fourthly: Iron Fist is not one person–it’s a power that is passed onto people that subsequently bear the title. Only two of them have been white. However this is is not important, because they changed almost everything about Danny Rand (and 90% of his backstory and even what the Iron Fist is for) except the bit about him being white. So the less deliberately obtuse understand that this was the most important thing to the writers, directors and producers. Lewis Tan also auditioned for the same role, so most people know that they did not pick the best actor for the job–unless you think white actor = default best lead actor.
Fifth point: this show had awful writing. And that’s even without the Orientalism and pseudo Buddhism. However, this dissection will be focused on this point.
Warning(s): Death, drug overdose, needles, guns, violence (kinda slow violence but still), Orientalism, lazy writing, car crashes, mangling of Mandarin, drugging someone against their will, forced institutionalisation, ableism, plane crashes.
Opening is … eh, kung fu in slow-mo. On a mountain top. With stuff like black ink. Like Chinese calligraphy. Only without any calligraphy. Just the vague aesthetics of calligraphy. *sighs* This is going to be painful.
In the first bit, Danny Rand returns to New York and tries to get into his parents’ company’s building. It goes as well as expected. His ex-childhood buddies treat him like shit. (He doesn’t get shot for assaulting security officers–this article explains why.) He also does not know that people think he’s dead–after 15 years, who would have thought, eh? Action scene was kinda slow. His ex-childhood buddies are also greedy cynical capitalists, so they have no reason to believe him.
I have to stop to ask: Can someone please tell me why this guy is barefoot? Other than bad writing (bad characterisation and bad worldbuilding)? Shoes were invented a long time ago and while a lot of Asians take shoes off when they enter a dwelling, we understand the need to wear shoes outdoors. Someone will no doubt write a fic where Danny gives his shoes up to some other homeless person. But there is no reason why he should be barefoot in that scene.
(How did this guy get to New York anyway?)
Back to Danny Rand, trying to get back into his old place. Ah, his other skill is animal communications or something??? His ex-childhood buddy Ward was a douche way back when. Still is. It gets creepy because Joy lives in this house now, so DR looks like a stalker.
Homeless in the park with DR. Time for him to use his iPod and read a book written in … I can’t make out what language that is but I know what they want me to think it is. (Stereotyping: your mind fills in the blanks with pre-existing scripts. Lazy writing.) Unless someone can tell me that this book is significant in some way later on, I’m going to call it unnecessary window dressing for that “Asian flavour”.
Translation: the original comic creators were crusty old relics that wanked over the aesthetics of 70s kung fu movies and the producers and writers of this show are not much better. I kid–it could be line of poop emojis and we would never know.
In a scene that would have been much nicer without the extra window dressing, DR makes a friend. Big Al shows him Google search on an iPhone so that DR knows that people think he’s dead. His uncle is also apparently dead. The only person to be nice to him the whole day is another homeless person. Maybe we can focus on the plight of the–nope, not going that way.
The next morning, DR is very persistent. Joy feels (rightfully) harassed and calls people. That car-jumping scene was … um. Really extra. Let me try to articulate this, okay? This is 2017, people have access to decades of martial arts movies. (The Matrix was 18 years ago.) The action sequences in this show will compare very badly to those movies. So even people watching this for fight scenes will not be entertained.
First meeting with Colleen Wing, she gives him money and he mangles Mandarin without subtitles (for subtitles please look at gif set exhibit A under the link: white man polices biracial woman’s identity) and she says she hasn’t spoken it since she was a kid (rather than punching him for that). Man, if you wanted a job, you could have said so in English. Why do you suppose Colleen would know how to speak Mandarin?
This is so uncomfortable on so many levels. If magical K’un Lun is not of this world, then why would they speak Mandarin? If it was truly isolated in another dimension, then K’un Lun would have its own distinct dialect, like most regions in China and most countries. So DR speaking (mangling) Mandarin is also BS. (Not even talking about the yoga-like poses in the park.) This would mean so much more if it was Chinese American DR, who was never very good in Mandarin class, and Colleen Wing, who might be able to relate.
Back to the more douchy sibling and DR. Apparently DNA tests cannot be done because Danny has no living relatives. (That’s BS too, btw.) Way to be ableist, Ward. (The only thing I like is that major douches in MCU are named Ward.) However, Danny is not as peaceful as his initial appearance suggests. We get it, he’s traumatised by the deaths of his parents–why does it get expressed as him being rather violent in a car? Apparently he’s not out of touch enough to not know how guns work (or maybe all kids know how to use guns in the US or K’un Lun–I dunno).
More job-hunting in vain. It’s not like it isn’t obvious that a) she practices a totally different school of martial arts in her dojo and b) she doesn’t have the money to pay another instructor. Yes, kick him out, Colleen. That’s what he gets for trying to police a biracial woman’s identity–is he trying to flirt with her? Ew. (Colleen Wing obviously cannot afford to pay DR–her dojo is sharing space with AA meetings. But she gives him shoes. It’s almost as if everyone who is nice to DR in this show are not very well off and–yeah, it’s very unsubtle.)
Then DR gets attacked and chased into Chinatown (while Colleen Wing watches from above). Where a parade is happening. With lion dancers, dragon dancers and fire crackers and everything. But why? Is it Chinese New Year? What is the context for this? Can someone tell me why this is necessary? Or is this a way to claim that this show is diverse because there were something like 100 Asian extras in that scene? Way to endanger the lives of all the people in the parade, DR. Fight scenes are a yawn. Even though the mask DR is wearing in no way hides his curly mop of blond hair in this parade of Asian people–who do not notice the fighting at all.
(I feel that this scene is a metaphor for the whole show.)
On one hand, I hope the extras were paid a reasonable rate and had a good experience. On the other hand, I have a feeling that when it comes to telling the kids about how Mum/Dad/Second Aunt/your Cousin were extras on this show, it would come with the caveat that they shouldn’t try to be actors–because they’ll probably wind up as extras in a show (with not very good fight scenes) that needed a parade of Asian faces for reasons unknown. Representation matters.
(Story time: there were Chinese actors from my tiny state that tried to make it to Hollywood. Shanghai Knights was back in 2003 and Fann Wong is still mostly known as a local actress. Lau in The Dark Knight might still be Ng Chin Han’s biggest role to date in a major movie right after Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Currently, he’s got a part in Gh0st in the *hell–not sure if he gets more or less lines than in Captain America. Most parents here still don’t encourage kids to become actors because there’s so little room for them.)
Back to Ward, the more evil sibling who sends people to assassinate homeless dudes–he has reasons for being a terrible person. Reason number one being his dad (supposedly dead but still alive???)–who is probably why Ward is the nice cuddly guy he is. Wow, every baddie has a backstory. Probably affects plot in future. But is anyone interested? (I loved the art deco style building this scene supposedly took place in. Anyone know where it is?)
Remember DR’s one friend? His one friend is now dead of a drug overdose. Why? Maybe Big Al was around for for one Google search, some food and to allow DR to mouth some platitudes over his body? Or to highlight the plight of the homeless by ki–that’s really … really not good storytelling.
Security at Rand Enterprises is dreadful–DR has no problem sneaking in again. (Or maybe it’s that other thing.) Cut to Joy, the nicer sibling. Who is very calm for a woman that’s just found a strange guy in her office (again). Maybe it’s because she might believe him. Or is being swayed by his rhetoric. (”It’s a Zen saying” … gag me with a spoon.) His backstory is taking way too long … So Joy drugs him. I take everything back, she’s just as bad.
DR wakes to … a very troubling scene of forced institutionalisation at the end. As if everything else had not been bad enough.
Plot: It’s all over the place … Not sure if the writers know what DR is supposed to be. He has trauma, tries to be a pacifist but is really angry inside? What is the message here? Wall Street is evil? Problematic portrayals all over the place? The plight of the homeless and people with mental health issues? Not enough women with lines? Colleen Wing needs her own show with Misty Knight!
Orientalism: Check, aesthetics over substance, mangling of Mandarin despite the fact that DR has no reason to be speaking Mandarin, Zen sayings, yoga poses, a huge Chinese New Year-style parade in the background for reasons unknown (oooooooor they just wanted a certain type of backdrop for a not very good fight scene). One East Asian character with lines.
Asians in the background: around 100 of them perhaps, no lines, much firecrackers. Not sure if they were Chinese-American, Korean-American, Japanese American, Hmong-American … because they have no lines.
#spoilers#iron fist for the sensitive#it has the potential to be very triggering#i actually watched this#it was dreadful#worse than anything the reviews prepared me for#i struggled through one episode#nearly yelled at the screen for colleen to just fucking punch this guy already#orientalism#if you took those bits out it might be marginally less offensive#aiyoh#long post#sorry for cluttering up your dash with this dreck

A Silicon Valley for everyone – TechCrunch
Editor’s note: Get this free weekly recap of TechCrunch news that any startup can use by email every Saturday morning (7am PT). Subscribe here.
Many in the tech industry saw the threat of the novel coronavirus early and reacted correctly. Fewer have seemed prepared for its aftereffects, like the outflow of talented employees from very pricey office real estate in expensive and troubled cities like San Francisco.
And few indeed have seemed prepared for the Black Lives Matter protests that have followed the death of George Floyd. This was maybe the easiest to see coming, though, given how visible the structural racism is in cities up and down the main corridors of Silicon Valley.
Today, the combination of politics, the pandemic and the protests feels almost like a market crash for the industry (except many revenues keep going up and to the right). Most every company is now fundamentally reconsidering where it will be located and who it will be hiring — no matter how well it is doing otherwise.
Some, like Google and Thumbtack, have been caught in the awkward position of scaling back diversity efforts as part of pandemic cuts right before making statements in support of the protesters, as Megan Rose Dickey covered on TechCrunch this week. But it is also the pandemic helping to create the focus, as Arlan Hamilton of Backstage Capital tells her:
It is like the world and the country has a front-row seat to what Black people have to witness, take in, and feel all the time. And it was before they were seeing some of it, but they were seeing it kind of protected by us. We were kind of shielding them from some of it… It’s like a VR headset that the country is forced to be in because of COVID. It’s just in their face.
This also putting new scrutiny on how tech is used in policing today. It is renewing questions around who gets to be a VC and who gets funding right when the industry is under new pressure to deliver. It is highlighting solutions that companies can make internally, like this list from BLCK VC on Extra Crunch.
As with police reforms currently in the national debate, some of the most promising solutions are local. Property tax reform, pro-housing activism and sustainable funding for homelessness services are direct ways for the tech industry to address the long history of discrimination where the modern tech industry began, Catherine Bracy of TechEquity writes for TechCrunch. These changes are also what many think would make the Bay Area a more livable place for everyone, including any startup and any tech employee at any tech company (see: How Burrowing Owls Lead To Vomiting Anarchists).
Something to think about as we move on to our next topic — the ongoing wave of tech departures from SF.
Where will VCs follow founders to now?
In this week’s staff survey, we revisit the remote-first dislocation of the tech industry’s core hubs. Danny Crichton observes some of the places that VCs have been leaving town for, and thinks it means bigger changes are underway:
“Are VCs leaving San Francisco? Based on everything I have heard: yes. They are leaving for Napa, leaving for Tahoe, and otherwise heading out to wherever gorgeous outdoor beauty exists in California. That bodes ill for San Francisco’s (and really, South Park’s) future as the oasis of VC.
But the centripetal forces are strong. VCs will congregate again somewhere else, because they continue to have that same need for market intelligence that they have always had. The new, new place might not be San Francisco, but I would be shocked just given the human migration pattern underway that it isn’t in some outlying part of the Bay Area.
And then he says this:
As for VCs — if the new central node is a bar in Napa and that’s the new “place to be” — that could be relatively more permanent. Yet ultimately, VCs follow the founders even if it takes time for them to recognize the new balance of power. It took years for most VCs to recognize that founders didn’t want to work in South Bay, but now nearly every venture firm of note has an office in San Francisco. Where the founders go, the VCs will follow. If that continues to be SF, its future as a startup hub will continue after a brief hiatus.
It’s true that another outlying farming community in the region once became a startup hub, but that one had a major research university next door, and at the time a lot of cheap housing if you were allowed access to it. But Napa cannot be the next Palo Alto because it is fully formed today as a glorified retirement community, Danny.
I’m already on the record for saying that college towns in general are going to become more prominent in the tech world, between ongoing funding for innovative tech work and ongoing desirability for anyone moving from the big cities. But I’m going to add a side bet that cities will come back into fashion with the sorts of startup founders that VCs would like to back. As Exhibit A, I’d like to present Jack Dorsey, who started a courier dispatch in Oakland in 2000, and studied fashion and massage therapy during the aftermath of the dot-com bubble. His success with Twitter a few years later in San Francisco inspired many founders to move as well.
Creative people like him are drawn to the big, creative environments that cities can offer, regardless of what the business establishment thinks. If the public and private sectors can learn from the many mistakes of recent decades (see last item) who knows, maybe we’ll see a more equal and resilient sort of boom emerge in tech’s current core.
Insurance provider Lemonade files for IPO with that refreshing common-stock flavor
There are probably some amazing puns to be made here but it has been a long week, and the numbers speak for themselves. Lemonade sells insurance to renters and homeowners online, and managed to reach a private valuation of $3.5 billion before filing to go public on Monday — with the common stockholders still comprising the majority of the cap table.
Danny crunched the numbers from the S-1 on Extra Crunch to generate the table, included, that illustrates this rather unusual breakdown. Usually, as you almost certainly know already, the investors own well over half by the time of a good liquidity event. “So what was the magic with Lemonade?” he ponders. “One piece of the puzzle is that company founder Daniel Schreiber was a multi-time operator, having previously built Powermat Technologies as the company’s president. The other piece is that Lemonade is built in the insurance market, which can be carefully modeled financially and gives investors a rare repeatable business model to evaluate.”

Adapting enterprise product roadmaps to the pandemic
Our investor surveys for Extra Crunch this week covered the space industry’s startup opportunities, and looked at how enterprise investors are assessing the impact of the pandemic. Here’s Theresia Gouw of Acrew Capital, explaining how two of their portfolio companies have refocused in recent months:
A common theme we found when joining our founders for these strategy sessions was that many pulled forward and prioritized mid- to long-term projects where the product features might better fit the needs of their customers during these times. One such example in our portfolio is Petabyte’s (whose product is called Rhapsody) accelerated development of its software capabilities that enable veterinarians to provide telehealth services. Rhapsody has also incorporated key features that enable a contactless experience when telehealth isn’t sufficient. These include functionality that enables customers to check-in (virtual waiting room), sign documents, and make payments from the comfort and safety of their car when bringing their pet (the patient!) to the vet for an in-person check-up.
Another such example would be PredictHQ, which provides demand intelligence to enterprises in travel, hospitality, logistics, CPG, and retail, all sectors who saw significant change (either positive or negative) in the demand for their products and services. PredictHQ has the most robust global dataset on real-world events. Pandemics and all the ensuing restrictions and, then, loosening of restrictions fall within the category of real-world events. The company, which also has multiple global offices, was able to incorporate the dynamic COVID government responses on a hyperlocal basis, by geography, and equip its customers (e.g., Domino’s, Qantas, and First Data) with up to date insights that would help with demand planning and forecasting as well as understanding staffing needs.

From Alex:
Hello and welcome back to Equity, TechCrunch’s venture capital-focused podcast, where we unpack the numbers behind the headlines.
After a pretty busy week on the show we’re here with our regular Friday episode, which means lots of venture rounds and new venture capital funds to dig into. Thankfully we had our full contingent on hand: Danny “Well, you see” Crichton, Natasha “Talk to me post-pandemic” Mascarenhas, Alex “Very shouty” Wilhelm and, behind the scenes, Chris “The Dad” Gates.
Make sure to check out our IPO-focused Equity Shot from earlier this week if you haven’t yet, and let’s get into today’s topics:
Instacart raises $225 million. This round, not unexpected, values the on-demand grocery delivery startup at $13.7 billion — a huge sum, and one that should make it harder for the well-known company to sell itself to anyone but the public markets. Regardless, COVID-19 gave this company a huge updraft, and it capitalized on it.
Pando raises $8.5 million. We often cover rounds on Equity that are a little obvious. SaaS, that sort of thing. Pando is not that. Instead, it’s a company that wants to let small groups of individual pool their upside and allow for more equal outcomes in an economy that rewards outsized success.
Ethena raises $2 million. Anti-harassment software is about as much fun as the dentist today, but perhaps that doesn’t have to be the case. Natasha talked us through the company, and its pricing. I’m pretty bullish on Ethena, frankly. Homebrew, Village Global and GSV took part in the financing event.
Vendr raises $4 million. Vendr wants to help companies cut their SaaS bills, through its own SaaS-esque product. I tried to explain this, but may have butchered it a bit. It’s cool, I promise.
Facebook is getting into the CVC game. This should not be a surprise, but we were also not sure who was going to want Facebook money.
And, finally, Collab Capital is raising a $50 million fund to invest in Black founders. Per our reporting, the company is on track to close on $10 million in August. How fast the fund can close its full target is something we’re going to keep an eye on, considering it might get a lot harder a lot sooner.
And that is that; thanks for lending us your ears.
Equity drops every Friday at 6:00 am PT, so subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify and all the casts.

These five easy-to-follow modules come in PDF format for fast, easy download and study.
Q: Is your certification accepted everywhere in the World?
A: Yes. To the best of our knowledge, at this time, our certification is accepted everywhere. However, you should always check your local laws and regulations.
Q: Will I need any other training in order to write hypnotically besides your course?
A: No. Our course is all you will need.
Q: Will I be properly trained if all I take is your online Hypnotic Communicator Certification program?
A: Ideally a Hypnotic Writer would be trained in a classroom setting with an instructor physically present. Unfortunately, this luxury is not practical for many people. When we factor in airfare, hotel, time away from work and family, etc. the costs both monetary and otherwise quickly add up. For this reason, many institutions have turned to online training as a viable method to meet modern needs. In fact, Columbia, Harvard, and Cornell, among others, have extensive online programs.
Dr. Steve G. Jones, Ed.D., while working on his doctorate in education, extensively studied the online programs offered by Ivy League schools. He then was able to take what he learned from the curriculum and combine it with Dr. Joe Vitale’s adept knowledge on Hypnotic Writing to create a Hypnotic Communicator training program that offers university level training and skills. Additionally, in this course, you are encouraged to find study partners to exchange your wriiten work with.
Q: What about licensing requirements for Hypnotic writers. Are there any?
A: At this time, to the best of our knowledge, there are no licensing requirements Hypnotic writers anywhere in the World. However, if you start a business, you will generally need a business license. You should always check your local laws and regulations.
Q: What do I get when I invest in the Hypnotic Communicator Certification program?

Law Of Attraction Practitioner Training FAQs
Q: Is your certification accepted everywhere in the World?
A: Yes. To the best of our knowledge, at this time, our certification is accepted everywhere.
Q: Will I need any other training in order to practice The Law of Attraction besides your course?
A: No. Our course is all you will need.
Q: Will I be properly trained if all I take is your online Law of Attraction Practitioner Certification program?
A: Ideally a Law Of Attraction practitioner would be trained in a classroom setting with an instructor physically present. Unfortunately, this luxury is not practical for many people. When we factor in airfare, hotel, time away from work and family, etc. the costs both monetary and otherwise quickly add up.
Q: What do I get Certified as?
A: A Law of Attraction Practitioner qualified by our standards to teach and practice the mechanics involved in the Law of Attraction.
Q: What Do I get When I Buy the Law of Attraction Course?
A: You get instant access to all 5 training manuals.
Q: How long does the course take to finish?
A: It takes about 2-3 weeks if you move quickly by reading the manuals.
Q: What do I need to do to get my Certification?
A: You must pass the test on the database with a score of 75% or better. If you fail you have a max of 3 times to pass. If you don’t pass all three times, you will be charged a $25 fee for another 3 chances and so on.
