Day 5: Nails

Wes Weston had been suspicious of Danny for weeks. Every time a ghost attacked, Danny conveniently disappeared right before the mysterious Invis-o-Bill showed up to fight the spector back to wherever they came from. Sam and Tucker also seemed to have an excuse for being present at every ghost appearance, so he knew they had to be involved.

Wes grimaced as he tapped his pen on his notebook. If Danny was Invis-o-Bill, how did he manage to look human most of the time? The common consensus was that their local hero was a ghost, which made sense at first glance, but there had to be some reason that Danny seemed so…normal otherwise. Maybe a little too pale to be healthy, but still normal.

There had to be something he was missing. Wes scribbled out ‘Not a ghost?’ on a post-it before slapping it onto his wall. He stepped back to take it all in, all his leads and theories on Danny and Invis-o-Bill. He would have to buy some red yarn soon to connect his evidence.

It'd only been a few months since he began his investigation, but his wall was already filled with sticky notes, news clippings, and blurry photographs he was able to take during ghost fights.

The door to Wes’ bedroom then creaked open.

“Hey bro, having fun with your conspiracy wall?” Kyle said while leaning against the doorway, his laid back attitude ever present.

Wes whirled around to face his brother, “It's not a conspiracy wall! All of this is evidence!” He fumed as he gestured wildly at the wall.

Kyle chuckled, “Alright man, whatever you say. Dinner is in five though.” And with that he made his way back downstairs.

Wes looked back at his notes. He needed more proof, something solid he could really work with.

The day has been a boring one at school. There were no ghosts in sight, so Danny and his friends had been acting normal. Exhaustingly normal, if you asked Wes. The three of them had talked about the game ‘Doomed’ all during lunch, never once saying something that might give Wes a clue to the mystery that was Invis-o-Bill.

Now he was fighting to stay awake in Lancer's class when something finally happened.

He had looked over at Danny and to his surprise he no longer looked quite…human. Danny was staring off into the distance, eyebrows furrowed as if recalling a troubling memory. His eyes were mixing between their normal blue and a toxic hazardous green.

But it was his hands that had really caught Wes’ attention. Gripping the sides of the desk, Danny's nails had somehow morphed into wicked looking claws. They had to be at least an inch long and they were gouging the wood of the desk leaving what Wes was sure to be deep holes.

Wes gaped at the sight. At least until Sam noticed Danny's situation, and gave the boy's leg a quick kick.

Startled, Danny looked at her, the green retreating from his eyes. Sam pointedly tapped her fingers on the desk and Wes heard him whisper an almost inaudible “Shoot!” before his claws quickly morphed back to normal human-looking nails.

Wes turned back to his desk and brought out his notebook before he began to write in it furiously.

‘Danny’s nails can turn into claws??’

‘What other parts of his body can he change while looking human?’

‘What’s up with his eyes???’

Wes then began to list out Danny's inhuman attributes;

- Can fly

- Eyes change color

- Changes appearance (hair)

- Grows claws

- Super strong

- Can turn invisible

- Is blurry in photos

His pen stuttered to a stop on the page as a thought flashed through his mind. He had it! It was the only thing that made sense! All these characteristics, Danny's generally pale appearance, plus his friends constantly, almost impulsively covering for him…like they were under some spell…

“He's a vampire!” Wes inadvertently shouted. Everyone in the class jumped, and Wes clapped a hand over his mouth. He couldn't let Danny know that he knew his secret! What if he decided to make Wes his next thrall?

Mr. Lancer cleared his throat. “While I appreciate your enthusiasm Mr. Weston, I would ask that you raise your hand before you suggest something. Now while it is an interesting thought, I don't quite agree that Mr. Darcy could be seen as some sort of emotional vampire…”

Wes sighed with relief as Lancer droned on. That had been a close one. Now he just had to figure out where to get some string. This theory was genius and he had to make sure all his evidence lined up!

Pt 2 of Danny being sort of reincarnated in the DC universe. Tim's pov of Danny and his weirdness. Ft Damian and setting up a play date [pt 1 here] [pt3 here]

Tim can honestly say he's enjoyed the last few months. His newest little brother is a delight and managed to get everyone wrapped around his little finger. The funniest, and saddest if Tim was honest, part of it all is that Danny has no idea. He hasn't seemed to realize how devastatingly cute he is while exploring the world. Add in the fact Tim found a speech therapist for him, so sometimes he will actually say something instead of just writing, and you can actively hear/see the scary Gotham vigilantes crumble every single time.

Danny follows whoever he deems "safe" like a weird glowing duckling. The kid had no idea how the world works and knows it, attaching to family in fear and googling anything and everything to understand. Tim really wants to get the kid help for his anxiety, but Danny is refusing currently. Tim can't really blame him, Danny has so much medical trauma.

The downside of being deemed as "safe" and non judgemental early on is Tim knows the most of the horrible details. It'd not much, but between what Danny has let slip and what he's searched on different mental health and trauma, Tim has a very ugly picture of what happened during his time in the lab. On the plus side, if he's asking questions and trying to work on/understand his mental health, then Tim is sure he'll be willing to see a specialist eventually. Tim is willing to go at Danny's pace and protect the kid as much as possible. He debriefs the rest of the family whenever he discovers a new trauma so no one accidentally triggers Danny into another panic attack. He has far too many of them daily already, and Cass is the best at calming him down, but she's not always available.

A less sad, and more interesting development is Danny's features have been changing from Damian's. Whoever made Danny really fucked up. Genetically he's still a clone of Damian, but visually, he looks like someone tried to draw Damian from memory and decided to make him part fae or something. Danny's eyes faded to a pale celadon blue, his ears are slightly pointed, his teeth are sharper than the should be, he gained freckles that glow Lazarus Pit green when he gets emotional, his hair curled and turned the darkest black Tim has ever seen while also gaining glittering white tuffs throughout, and his constant soft glowing are just a few things that shifted and changed over time. Tim has a theory that Danny has a higher concentration of Lazarus waters in his body than any of his predecessors and that caused him to mutate. Unfortunately, it's just a theory because Danny had a massive panic attack and dissociation episode the one time they tried to draw some of his blood. No one was willing to push it after that. So until Danny is healed enough mentally for it, there will be no tests.

Danny also freaked out and hid in his closet for 3 days straight when he realized how uncanny he's looking. He was terrified they'd hurt him for it or the flickers of developing powers when he's emotionally, which is often, and it took an insane amount of reassurances and bribes to get the kid to come out. Duke was actually the one who got Danny to calm down enough to talk about what he's developed so far. Duke talked about his own powers and how they developed; he's also taken to using them around the manor more to help the baby realize it's okay. It's now fairly common to see both use their powers, even if Danny's usage is still unintentional. Tim wonders if he should ask one of the Martians to help Danny control his, so far Danny has shown invisibility, floating, and phasing through things, he was startled into using them every single time they've manifested. Tim is holding off on contacting anyone yet because Duke and Tim have been double teaming to get Danny comfortable with his powers and making progress.

Plus, Danny regresses every time back into the mute, anxious wreck hiding behind his "safe" person like the first night any time someone new is introduced. So Tim makes sure both Cass and him are present for any introductions. Though, he does think introducing Danny to aliens would go smoother than most others. The kid is absolutely obsessed with everything space related. He lives in space themed clothes and has his own section in the family library because of all the space, physics, and alien culture books he's collected/been gifted. He's read every single one at least twice and is actively trying to learn Martian and Kryptonian, mostly their written language currently since talking is still an ongoing battle. Tim can hardly wait to introduce Danny to Kon.

Speaking of ongoing battles.

"Please, anki, you need a proper name." Damian sounds desperate, "I made a list of names that you can keep your nickname with. Please just pick one."

"Don't wanna." Danny whines quietly. Despite the kid technically being the same physical age as Damian, Danny never acts it, ping-pongs between behaving like literal 4 year old and young teen. Have you tried to tell a 4 year old they need to pick a different name for themselves or stuffed animal or pet or something? It's a battle of patience.

"Please.." Tim blinks as Damian pulls out his saddest puppy eyes. Tim has literally never seen Damian do that. It's not very good, but Danny is the definition of a people pleaser.

"...okay..." Danny reluctantly takes the list from Damian.

"Thank you." Damian gives a small satisfied smile.

"Danny, do you mind if I borrow Damian?" Tim asks in amusement. "Oh, shit!" is clear in Damian's body language, but the lack of real panic in Damian and the teasing vibes Tim is sure he's putting off keeps Danny from panicking. Kid can give Cass a run for her money in reading body language.

"Okay... I'll look at the names while you're gone.." Danny's voice starts fading out by the end of his sentence. Tim expects Danny is going to be mute for the rest of the day. He's come a long way since arriving, but speaking is still hard on him. Tim is positive it's a trauma thing. Another reason to try to convince him to see a therapist.

"We'll be right back." Tim smiles and pulls Damian out of the room and a little ways down the hall. "You taking lessons from the baby?"

"Don't know what you're talking about." Damian grumps.

So Tim puts on his best approximation of the face Damian pulled and in his most pathetic voice goes, "Please..."

Damian turns an interesting shade of red. "Shut up."

"I think it's cute." Tim's face hurts a little from his grinning. He has to shove down the anxiety at that realization, remembering what his own therapist has told him in relation to grinning reminding him of JJ.

"I'll stab you again."

"And upset the baby? Heartless." Tim teases before switching topics. "Do you think you could have Jon visit?"

"Probably, why?"

"I think it's time to introduce Danny to people outside of the family. Jon is a ball of sunshine and an alien, I think he'd be a good start." Tim explains.

"Why not Kon? I'm sure Anki would love to meet a clone like him. Especially one who is an alien and is as different from his template as Danny is to me." Damian points out. "As well as being connected to one of his "security people"."

"I thought about that, but I was also thinking about Jon being closer to his physical age." They discovered Danny has an intense distrust of adults, and while Kon is chronologically closer in age to Danny, he's mentally and physically a 19 year old. He knows Danny will love Kon and vice-versa, but he feels it's worth starting with someone younger.

"... I shall call Jon tonight. I assume Friday after school is acceptable?"

"Yeah, Cass should be hanging out with him all day and I can get off early. Tam knows we got a traumatized baby with separation anxiety." Tim chuckles, "I think she's happy I've been taking care of myself more because of Danny."

"Why have you been doing that?" Damian tilts his head. "It's not a bad thing, but it's out of character."

"I realized I can't be Bruce."

"Wha-?"

"I can't let my worst habits affect a kid that is dependent on my ability to help him figure out his place in the world." Tim feels tired. "How can I help him if I won't help myself?"

"... I see. When you put it that way, I understand." Damian looks thoughtful. "Perhaps I should look into getting a therapist as well."

"I'll send you a list of people I've vetted." Tim says and starts heading back to the room they left Danny in. "Now, let's check on the baby."

Danny is frowning at the list Damian gave him. It's an interesting sight, several names are blacked out with extreme prejudice, and his iPad is opened to the search engine. He seems to be looking up the remaining names' meanings and hating most of them. Any he doesn't hate, he writes the meaning next to with a frown. Tim and Damian occupy themselves while he does this, Danny hates being stared at, especially while working on something.

The silence is broken when Danny crushes the paper. A glance shows he copied 5 of the names and their meanings down in a note app. Danny opens the drawing app he prefers to communicate with while nonverbal.

[I want to think on these. I'll make a decision by dinner tomorrow.]

"Decide on what lastname or names you want and I'll set up a paper trail to prove your identity during the weekend. Damian wouldn't let me or Barb set one up til you picked a "proper" name."

[Ugh! Fine!]

"What do you mean? Anki will have the Wayne last name!"

"Yeah, but he might want mine or Cass's name too. Or maybe he'll decide to take the Al Gul name out of spite." Tim shrugs. "Names have power. Cass and mine would be an extra layer of protection, but he's technically an Al Gul. Kon took the El name to spite Clark and Clark couldn't do shit about it since Kon is technically blood."

"I suppose..." Damian does not look happy about this.

[Your friend's name meanings hope's abomination or false hope?] Danny looks so concerned.

"Yeah. He picked it out himself. He's a clone of Kal-El, better known as Superman or Clark Kent." Tim tries to keep his anger at Clark under wraps, but Danny's weary look tells him he didn't succeed. "Clark and Kon have a better relationship now, but Clark was awful to him for simply existing at first. It's fine for him to feel violated and angry, but it wasn't acceptable that he took it out on a kid who didn't ask to be made."

[Is cloning common?] Danny is intrigued.

"Only in the hero communities. Villains seem to like trying their hand at it. It's hit or miss on how the clone ends up. Some are mindless puppets, some are actually programmed to be an evil version, some literally are just the hero with some "fun" new trauma, and some might be completely unaware their clone statuses. Then there's the clones who know they're clones and are completely different than their DNA donor, but still want to do what's right." Tim explains. "The categories can overlap or a clone can start in one and end up in another."

"Would you be willing to meet Kon-El?"

"He's one of Drake's paramours."

"Damian!"

[What's a paramour?]

"He means he's one of my boyfriends." Tim can feel how red his face is.

[Pural???] Danny looks like a whole new realm of possibilities just opened up. It's adorable.

"Yeah, I have 2 boyfriends." Tim smiles, "Having multiple partners is completely fine so long as everyone is in the know and consenting, otherwise that's cheating."

"Stop corrupting my Anki" Damian complains with no heat. And Tim can't let that "challenge" slide.

"Look up the polyamory and being polyamorous, if you want to know more. Also, gender is a lie and sexuality is a mess. Do whatever makes you happy so long as it doesn't hurt you or anyone else." Tim says with the tone of someone commenting on pleasant weather. It makes Danny giggle before he opens the search bar to Google what he can on those three topics, wanting to fill his gap in knowledge. Damian and Tim share a fond look. This isn't nearly the first time Danny went on a research binge after a conversation. He has some vast gaps in his knowledge, and he takes it as a personal challenge every time he finds a new hole. It's admirable and adorable to see him so enthusiastic about learning. He has an air of child-like wonder, even if he dislikes the topic.

"Before we lose you to the allure of learning, anki, I'd like to ask if you'd be alright if I brought my best friend over after school on Friday?" Danny looks at Damian in surprise. Tim jumps in.

"His name is Jon, he's kryptonian and Kon's sort of brother and/or nephew. He's Clark's son, but he's always been accepting of Kon, so he'll be nice to you. Especially since Damian cares about you." Danny cautiously studies them before nodding. "Awesome. I plan to be home before them and Cass will definitely be here all day, so if something happens, we will be here."

Danny looks relieved.

"Now, enjoy your research."

Jason still has some issues with his memory's from some time after the Lazarus pit.

Usually it's not bothering him to much and he tries not to think about it.

But when he sees a young teenager who kinda looks like him, who's eyes go suddenly Lazarus green, when some guys try to rob him, Jason is convinced that this is his son and he just can't quite remember it.

Danny temporary on the run In Gotham, he is glad that this guy saved him and he doesn't had to use his powers. But he would be even more grateful if this dude would leave him alone.

Not that he is not thankful that Jason let him life with him. (since Danny has no place to stay.)

It also nice that he cooks for him.

Danny tried to explain that he is not his Son, Jason just doesn't belive him.

Also Danny refuses to do an DNA test since his DNA is mutated, Jason is okay with that.

He understands that the little teen doesn't trust him, and that he is afraid of almost any medical equipment, he's something like a meta, most likely Jason's fault.

Also Danny is probably just afraid since he is a clever kid and found out that he is a crime boss and he probably just doesn't want his bio dad to one.

So they just life together.

Jasons Family is a little over the top, especially Bruce and Alfred,they try to spoil Danny rotten.

Okay, so I love the concept of Dad hood and even though I haven’t found many there are a few stories/prompts that I have read where Danny has animal features and people mistake him for a mutated metahuman and inspired by this one picture/meme

I had a great idea

So Jason, before he reveals himself to the family is walking around crime Alley and here’s one of the most hart wrenching sounds he has ever heard obviously he’s in his red hood get up and go's to check it out to find a bunch of guys in white outfits hurting what looks to be an small child with animal features

Jason being Jason would not allow this, especially after hearing what they called the little kid (a.k.a. this is the GIW being absolute assholes towards Danny )

Jason rescues the kid and after seeing how small and fragile and hurt the kid was along with the kid having passed out a few seconds before Jason took down the last guy Jason decides to take the kid home with him just until he’s healed.

(on Danny side I don’t exactly know how the GIW came into the situation but Danny was practising Shapeshifting and got stuck with a few raccoon features so he has fluffy little ears a tail and whatever else you wanna give him (a little raccoon man) he’s also for some reason, three years old probably the GIW’s fault but anyway he’s in Gotham now and this large guy with a red helmet saved him, and this man is Dad shaped. Danny decides this is my dad now.)

Anyways Jason takes care of the kid and eventually gets attached and adopt him and one day Jason needs to go to a very important meeting that will take the entire day and he doesn't want to leave Danny alone at home for the next 18 hours scared that someone might break in or hurt Danny so Jason gives him a gun

And just? Shitty people getting what they wanted only to have it blow up in their faces?? I see all these angst "but what if they were declared ANIMALS" prompts and I just?? Are we talking PARROT or goldfish!? One has the average intelligence of about a human 4yr old and the other is a FISH! People get RIGHTFULLY furious when you treat INTELLIGENT animals badly.

And would, in fact, adapt pretty easy to discovering one of said animal has become HUMAN lvl intelligent. It's easy to grasp the idea of human intelligence lvl dolphin or monkeys. Maybe there was some mutated strain, maybe in uetro tampering. Who knows. But if I tried to sell you a human intelligent housefly? Gold fish? Lizard?

You wouldn't believe me. There is some kind of trick at play.

So if GHOSTS are seen as animals? Everyone nods and then later? Someone comes in TV and very excitedly informs you "we found INTELLIGENT LIFE amongst the ghosts!" You'd believe it. Probably be really excited by your conversation starter for the day. Get a taco and move on with your life.

But? Having to willing sit for a barrage of testing? Is going to suuuuuuck so bad. Poor Danny. SATs all over again. For HOURS. At multiple facilities, just to be CERTAIN it's not a one off. All because he not certain he can insure good behavior from other ghosts and This Is IMPORTANT. He ALSO can't be certain it's even SAFE.

Might be a trap.

But if he has to do it again and again and again? Mexico to Bavaria to China to the Maldives? If this is what it takes for the scientific community to bitchslap the GIW into ORBIT before the UN? Hand him that pencil.

He has no where more important to be.

there is absolutely 0 beating around the bush, this kid smells dead but very evidently he can hear the kid has a heartbeat. he's a mutant or mutate. absolutely no long fic buildup. Danny protests, Logan does a "cut the shit bub, we’ll talk later but now you and me gotta go" and haul ass out of wherever they are (in my mind they meet bc of a sentinel attack or Brotherhood attack and just so happen to bump into each other), and Logan calls Charles for answers

DP X DC PROMT: JASON IS CHOSEN TO RAISE DANNY

Danny's core was broken, shattered and almost irreparable. The damage would take decades to heal in his teenage body, seeing as it didn't have much room to grow or mutate to adult size. The only option is to de-age him and let him rebuild his ghost core naturally.

The issue with this is that he can't be in the infinite realms while he does so if he wants to conserve his halfa status. Too much ectoplasm at once would overload the kids body and kill him, while to little would ensure that he developed just a little to liminal to be ordinary, but not liminal enough to be considered a halfa.

The obvious solution? Send the kid to a location on earth so steeped in ectoplasm that he will have no problem filtering it form his surroundings, even with a broken core. The issue with this? The only place to match this criteria is either the compound of a psycho assassin demon king, or Gotham city. Obviously, they're not sending Danny to this League of Assassins, leaving Gotham. The issue lies in the fact that Gotham has a huge amount of ectoplasm, but it's been so corrupted over the years that unless a liminal is born there, the sudden overload of rotten ectoplasm is enough to put most limimals down for the count for at least a couple years.

The solution? A halfa guardian. The only issue is finding one. Clockwork refuses to let Vlad take custody of Danny, Dani is too young, and Dan too volatile. Luckily for them, there is a halfa currently residing in Gotham City, specifically, the Red Hood, the Avenger of Spirits, a moniker granted to him by the many people who died in Gotham that he, well, avenged.

He fits all the criteria for a guardian. He can keep the de-aged Danny safe because he's Red Hood, no one in the infinite realms can argue with the placement because he is also a halfa, he is Jason Todd, the son of a billionaire, and can teach Danny how to win people over, not to mention the fact that he is a crime lord, and can teach Danny how to run a, well, not quite a kingdom, but close enough.

Danny is de-aged, losing his memories of anything after about the age of two years. Jason wakes up one morning to a toddler on his doorstep with black hair with a white streak and Lazarus green eyes, tucked into a fluffy red blanket with a stuffed ghost plushie and a letter.

The letter essentially says:

Jason, you are the best option to raise him. His name is Danny.

Jason, quite understandably, freaks out.

Mutagen

Liminality is a very interesting fanon setting, and so is the one where Amity has a lot of apparent metas due to the abundance of liminals. However, we really don't talk about how dangerous that could be in DC crossover.

See, metas in the dc world doesn't just mean people with metagenes. Liminals would be considered metas the same way Superman or Wonder woman is metahuman.

So, on one hand we have liminality, where ectoplasm exposure can cause mutations or give people powers at large enough doses. On the other we have a world where unethical metahuman experiments and trafficking is a well used plot device.

That's already shaping up to be a great recipe for disaster. But it only gets worse when you remember that Amity Park has 1) an astonishing amount of metas due to ecto exposure, 2) potentially a way to create more, and mostly importantly 3) a whole organization willing to do unethical experiments on ghosts, and by extension, liminals.

Surely nothing could go wrong, right?

After the disasteroid, after the fallout with Jack and Maddie, after Dan, Vlad is finally mellowing out in his villainy. As a sort of olive branch towards Danny and a proof of his change in heart, he decided to cut the funds for GIW.

It creates a larger mess than any of them could foresee. Although in hindsight, it's not at all surprising when the organization filled with people cherry picked for their willingness to conduct unethical experiments turns to other ways to fund itself.

Ok ok ok so Ellie is traveling around the world, performing some occasional heroing as she does so. During one such incident, members of Cadmus spot her and become very intrigued by her powers. Coincidentally, Cadmus has been starting up a new cloning project and they decide her powers would be great for one of their clones.

After a while of tracking and observing her, they finally spring their trap and capture Ellie, putting her in deep stasis. The scientists then get to work on trying to clone her.

They don't get very far though because they quickly get orders from up top to focus on cloning Superman. Fine sure, whatever you say mister bossman. There's only one problem: None of the clones are stabilizing. The scientists can't figure it out and they're quickly running out of DNA material from Superman.

In their desperation one of the scientists remembers a certain someone they still have in statis and suggests using her DNA. Considering they barely have enough Superman DNA for one more clone and everything else has failed so far, the others agree.

That's how Connor gets born. He barely has any Superman DNA in him but he looks similar enough that the scientists can just pass off any differences as minor mutations.

While Connor is going through his life and Ellie is locked away in an unknown facility, Danny is losing his mind. Ellie failed to check in with him months ago and he's been trying to track her down ever since. But he's looking in the wrong places.

He's convinced that the GIW managed to get their hands on her and has been carving a warpath through their facilities trying to find her. Every time he doesn't find her, he falls into more and more despair as the worse case scenarios flash through his mind. He's even enlisted the help of some of his rogues to explore the ghost zone just in case.

Danny's beginning to think about revealing himself to humanity and threatening them in a last ditch effort to find Ellie when he comes across a very familiar looking boy. Even if he can excuse the features as being common, there's no mistaking the familiar bond that connects them.

How Ghosts/Danny sees the League of Assassins/Ra’s al Ghul

I have seen a lack of world building regarding the LoA in all those dp x dc “Jason caught a ghost disease when he got dropped in Grandaddy Ra’s glowing green gamer-girl bathwater of eternal youth” fics and that is a goddamn shame bc… how does Danny see them?

Okay so the Lazarus Pits are weird messed up ectoplasm, fanon has decided, yada yada. Be it waste water seeping through to their reality, trapped ectoplasm stagnated and warped into something wrong, corrupted toxic waste, basically sewers of the Infinite Realms that throw off the balance of souls (pit rage) and reality (cheating death.)

But if the Lazarus Pits are Sewers, then does this… does this mean…

Does this mean the League of Assassins are New York Sewer Rats?

BC LIKE- prolonged exposure to the Weird Ectoplasm has slightly mutated their souls and made them stronger/more violent. They’ve adapted into an entirely different BREED and staked their claim and Danny COULD, logically, beat one in a fight easily if he really wanted to.

But like… would you want to? It’s a SEWER RAT they stinks and definitely carrying all kinds of diseases and they’re scurrying all over the place with thier tiny little maladapted cores what the FUCK. It fears no god. What do you even win, the sewer? They can keep that. Now you’re just an idiot that got jumped by a rat. Go get a shower. And maybe a rabies shot. Eugh.

Y'all know Danny isn't canonically a ghost, yeah? That his "half-ghost"/halfa status is because he got ghost DNA infused into him? That he didn't die/half-die and become a ghost/half-ghost and just has ghost-like powers? He's supposed to be a Spider-Man rip off, Danny's not a ghost the way Peter's not a spider. Danny is a Ghost Mutant: mutated to be ghost-like, the way Peter is a Spider Mutant: mutated to be spider-like.

Canonically anyway. Sure, I personally like the interpretation and angst of Schrodinger's Boy, alive and dead at the same time, but it is fanon and not canon.

A fic where Duke knows a lot about Gotham’s new problem, ghosts. The Waynes think the worst and assume he’s had some terrible experience with ghosts in the past (in reality is just very happy to talk about his best friends culture and doesnt realize how odd it is that he knows all this stuff)

Then Duke pops the question

“So, what are you guys researching?” He asks raising a brow to the papers littered all over the room

Collectively the entire room groans as Duke absentmindedly picks up a paper on the table with the failed, static over-run image.

“We don't know!” Steph bemoans frustrated

Tim starts, “There are new entities–”

“Creatures.” Bruce corrects

Tim casts a piercing glance at his father, “I am pretty sure those are entities. Eye witness reports state that they look fairly human-like–”

Bruce challenges him right back, “Eye witness reports were also very likely to be unfactual, they seemed partially intoxicated. It’s more likely they are some kind of mutated animal.”

His son’s teeth grit, “Even so we still can’t rule out–”

“Oh right, the ghosts are back in town,” Duke's comments, gaze absorbed in the static image

Silence drowns the room as their weary eyes blink at Duke, processing what he had just said.

Then it clicks

“R-repeat that?” Tim stares intensely at Duke

“Um, the ghosts are back? That's what these are.” Duke nervously replies confused, “It’s been a bit since they visited Gotham

Tim opens and closes his mouth, immensely struggling to find any words to say. It seems like the rest of his family is fairing no better, some of them letting out noises of surprise and shock with others trying to hear if they heard that sentence right.

“There used to be ghosts in Gotham?” Bruce says incredulously

“Yeah?” Duke tilts his head, “I mean they don’t like living here with the corrupt ectoplasm but I’m friends with a few ghosts?”

Jason springs on him with wide eyes, “What are ghosts like, personality-wise?”

Duke thinks and responds with the first thought that comes to mind, “Fickle, they can be super friendly or super destructive. They do whatever they’re in the mood to.”

“Are they aggressive?”

“Sure? Sometimes?” Duke blinks at them bewildered before a petty smile crosses his lips, “They can be, hmm, commanding.”

Dicks eyes turn cold and protective, “What–”

“Listen guys,” Duke backs away from the discussion going with his internal task list in mind, “I gotta go wrap up putting together all my documents for my topic on my science fair project so uh, see-ya!”

The second youngest bounces out of the cave and the rest of the family stare dumbstruck at him.

So, let's take canon Danny Phantom. We can even take the AGIT, that would only make him canonically 16-17is for this scenario. (Btw, poor Val. I'm seriously so sorry for her)

Danny is flying around the Infinite Realms to familiarise himself with it better. Look, if he decided to be the Bridge, he has to learn more about the Ghost side of his life. Their customs, quirks, limits, world... from someone who isn't a Fruitloop or his parents. He is still ashamed that it took meeting Dairy King to finally realise that not all Ghosts are evil.

He got to a section of many, many, MANY, natural portals that led into completely different universes. Most of them even had Heroes!!!! He was so exited!

He visited many in the next few months. Made friends, confused the heck out of locals. Made some enemies, cause that's just his life.

Spiderman was cool! Iron Man was so fun to prank, the guy was a billionaire and hilarious.

Even if he never was able to speak with the vast majority, those Japanese Heroes with cool superpowers were awesome. He was kinda glad his world was normal-is tho. Call him judgmental, but come on, look him in the eyes and tell him that you wouldn't be weirded out by some of the mutations.

And now, he spotted his new target. From what he gathered, they were an urban legend of the gloomy as heck city. Robins,... bats? or something. Time to make friends!

And close the leakage of the Raw, unfiltered ectoplasm into here. He had only been around one for an hour and he saw how problematic it was.
