ok my art/STEM/STEAM thoughts under the cut

I have a lot of conflicting feelings about trying to mesh art and science together mostly bc, in my own experience, people tend to be either very right brained or very left brained. And thus one way of thinking over the other feels more natural to them.

I'm not sure if there's any science that shows that people can develop skills with the opposite hemisphere the more they practice those skills. Neuroplasticity is a thing so I wouldn't be surprised, but I haven't looked into it.

But realistically I think back on all the people I've met in my science classes, and all the people I've met in my art classes, and there just... doesn't seem to be a way to FORCE people to have an interdisciplinary mindset if they don't already have a dual left brain/right brain mentality.

No matter how hard i try to push the scientists I know to see the value in art, they just don't think that way (like the girl in the video). They're analytical people. They "get" AI art no matter how many times the art community tells them its a cheap cop-out bc it's "art" in a way they can understand. Algorithmically.

And no matter how hard I try to tell my art friends of the value of science and math, it doesn't stick. "I can't do math." "I don't get it." "It's mind numbing." "It's boring." All the times I go on science/research tangents and my artist friends get this glazed over look on their faces and zone out.

You can't like... force these kinds of mindsets onto people. And I've been out of college for almost 5 years now so I'm not sure how that interdisciplinary STEAM education is being implemented.

I hate that there are so many arts/humanities majors that have this almost. resentment (??) of STEM majors bc they've been told their whole life they're "dumb" or "not smart" just bc their intelligence lies in a different skillset. Which is such a valid thing to be upset about. But I've seen so many people start to put down STEM majors and say they have no critical thinking skills and i think a big part of that comes from just. General bitterness.

And I REALLY don't want forced art education for STEM majors to make them equally as bitter or disdainful to the arts bc they were forced to take classes that they're not good at. Like that's why people pick a major. They pick something they like and want to study.

There's already such a divide between the arts and science communities we don't need to make it worse

Ultimately I guess I'm saying I don't think forcing this kind of education onto people will work. That post referenced a company that was started up by a chemist AND an artist working in tandem. And honestly I feel like that's the ideal. Some people just... cannot develop strong skills in both the arts and sciences because they weren't made that way. But by emphasizing cooperation between the disciplines, the independent strengths and values of both studies, maybe both parties can learn more respect for each other. And use each other as support and as resources to make projects and ideas come together realistically.

It's good to be as well rounded an individual as possible, but we can also rely on each other too.

Keine Woche später sitzt Joko als Überraschungsgast bei Late Night Berlin und will Klaas noch einmal zeigen, wie dankbar er für ihn ist und haut einen emotionalen, süßen Satz nach dem anderen raus (+ tanzt für ihn bzw war fake Tänzer lol) und Klaas setzt sich kurz vor der Werbung einfach auf Jokos Schoß

there's something wrong with optimus prime <3

in skybound. like we all know this right. but I've been so interested in danj's art and how optimus is framed for the camera.

first of all, op doesn't really do facial expressions. other characters emote with their eyes! cliffjumper and the jets especially. but op is always wearing what I can only describe as a vacant expression:

(can you guess which of these are from panels where op has just killed an innocent creature or is in the process of beating someone to death with his own arm?)

by contrast, check out soundwave, who doesn't have eyes and in most continuities is one of the most stoic decepticons:

it's possible that I'm just super tuned into soundwave bc I'm in love with them, but whatever. the point is op only emotes when someone's dying.

delightfully, we don't even get a facial expression when op crushes the deer, which is framed in gestural language pretty similarly to bumblebee's death:

honestly when he's picking up the badly injured spike he looks more careful than upset, even though from the way he wailed on skywarp it's clear he is upset:

but like. watching him trying to kill skywarp about this is SCARY. this in particular is the panel that made me go "holy shit, danj is straight up drawing optimus prime as a machine that enacts violence."

he's occasionally framed as cool--

but most of the time when he's fighting I feel like I'm supposed to be thinking "jeez, I want him to win but this is a lot."

and as lee pointed out I think, op is mostly using unarmed combat where the decepticons are mostly shooting things with guns. the fact that he's so much less expressive than the jets despite the dynamism of his wrestling moves is impressive!

the decepticons are scary and malevolent, absolutely, but there's something very special about op. here's his first cool POW panel

where he looks to me like he's been victim of some kind of nanobot possession plot point that makes your friends plead with you to remember who you are.

anyway. it's fun to look at this stuff in conjunction with what we know about his personality!

he was "so young" when he became prime, and from the way he describes the beginning of the war, very naive back then. I really enjoy the bit where he's like "the decepticons have done ENOUGH to this world!!" (been here for less than 2 days, total death count 3) he's projecting <3

I really adore this economy of storytelling. he kinda reminds me of op from tfp honestly, who it's clear has lost almost all scruples over the course of the war. but it takes like 2 seasons for that to become clear and I feel like it's framed more as "oh optimus you're so brave and sad and badass" rather than "holy shit this guy is kinda scary!"

that's my meditations on optimus prime in the first 3 issues! danj's artwork is fantastic and it makes me excited to hear more about what the war was like.

Imagine this scenario:

The JL and JLD summon a being of Infinity World to learn about it. They have Danny, as his introduction, the Prince and future ruler of Infinite World. By suggestion of the magic users, they try to trick into an agreement about not harming Earth. But Danny, after dealing with a lot types of ghosts, refused to commit any deal.

They have a summon circle to keep Danny in one place but he breakthroughs it. The JL fighting and losing it. All the magics heroes try all they have and cast a spell to prevent Danny gain power from Infinite World for few minutes, short but enough to trap him in a new circle again. However, to their horrified, the Prince when can’t use his power, he use their powers instead.

Now the Prince of Infinite World is using the JL powers to beat the shit out of them. How to stop it? Put another spell to cast away the JL’s powers. If don’t have those abilities, the Prince is just a kid fight with a bunch of adults, right?

Unfortunately for them, the Prince had learn their previous spell and cast away all JL, JLD members and make a circle around Tower and trap them inside.

Batman now may be the only could fight now, but Bruce with Danny, who have all abilities of JL, JLD and Batman’s fighting skills, how could he win unprepared like this? The best solution, he try to talk thing out with Danny. And it works. Now they know from Danny point of view, the JL just a random people who dressed up like comics characters that kidnapped him, try to trick him to seal a deal, cast a spell to take away his power, of cause he has to fight back. They should be lucky that his didn’t call his mentors or this Earth will be crushed

Batman explains that the reason they tried to seal a deal because some information show that the Infinite Realm is going to destroy Earth in future because the fight between the royals

Danny explain the fight they talk about is between Dan and Danj, who also are Prince and Princess of Infinite World. Dan may had a bad temper and Dani is a little mischievous but they are good guys, fighting is like siblings communication. This all just a misunderstanding

Then Dan come through the portal that suddenly appear upon them, in his murderous aura, Dani looked angry and declaring a war to the Earth that just kidnapped their “mom”

The JL and JLD sweeting while Danny tries to come Dan and Dani down. They just kidnapped a Prince of Infinite World, who also a Mother of two royals of Infinite World. If they were able to defeat him earlier, they may really cause wars to Earth

At least they original purpose is preventing the Infinite Realm from destroying Earth is full filled. Mission failed successfully
