The last month of my internship has officially started - I can’t believe that it’s comming to an end soon! A lot has happened since my last post. The weather is (sometimes) getting better, Sarah and I have been to both Kansas City and Minneapolis, and we can’t forget about the Super Bowl. Below is a random mix of photos from the last couple of weeks. Frederikke

SNOW!
How beautiful does Elk Horn look in the snow?! My camera roll is filled with pictures from this weekend of the white landscape. Not much else to say about it, but enjoy! Frederikke

Monday we were on intern field trip once again thanks to Angela’s amazing professional network. This time the destination was Des Moines; The State Historical Museum of Iowa and The Des Moines Art Center. The picture above is from the Art Center and is an art installation that is a part of the “queer abstraction” exhibit. The colors of the art piece and the sky made me so happy!

I had rye bread for the first time in two months yesterday! It was an absolute blast! All of the interns went to the Danish Table to have lunch, and I was in heaven!

Yesterday was Brown Bag Lunch time, but not any random BBL: it was my Danish Dining Etiquette BBL! It was so fun to talk the audience through one of my many passions and I absolutely loved their questions and the conversation we had afterwards about Danish dinner memories with friends and family! Our water/coffee table was also decorated a little extra this time because who are we kidding It’s me. I’m obsessed with the museums collection of full-lace Royal Copenhagen and I HAD to set a table with it. It is legit tableware GOALS!

Tomorrow will be my third 4 July in America and I’m very excited! It has always been such a great time! The girls and I are going to the Exira fair and I’ve heard they have an unhealthy amount of fried food which is (as always) right up my alley!!
In this picture we have Danish immigrants being welcomed by Uncle Sam to the United States in a 4th of July parade around 1924-25. 1991.042.169

On Wednesday I’ll present my “Danish Dinner Etiquette” presentation for the first time, and I’m really excited! Danes are exceptional at having dinner parties and our traditions around them are many! I’ve gone trough tons of pictures of eating Danes for my PowerPoint and these are some of the great ones!

Hi friends,
You guessed it, its not an intern although she looks young and delicious, its me and our archival collections manager Cheyenne in front of what seems like a million crates ready to be picked up! We deinstalled our Jacob Riis exhibit in less than two days and we’re all deadly tired now! BUT WE DID IT!

Beautiful indoor and outdoor art exhibit at Chihuly | Garden & Glass. This museum was one of many tours we did while we were in Seattle. The artist Dale Chihuly doesn’t have any know Danish-American ties but as a stupid Dane I actually thought that “Chihuly” was a fancy way to say and spell “Tivoli” because the gardens and colorful art really reminded me of the Danish amusement park. *facepalm* Nevertheless it is absolutely worth a visit if you’re in the Seattle-area.
A little information on the artist: Dale Chihuly /tʃɪˈhuːli/ (born September 20, 1941) is an American glass sculptor and entrepreneur. His works are considered to possess outstanding artistic merit in the field of blown glass, "moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture." The technical difficulties of working with glass forms are considerable, yet Chihuly uses it as the primary medium for installations and environmental artwork.

Some of the first social media posts that reached family members in Denmark and America. Emily is at the moment buried in postcards and (lucky me!!!) she has a lot of translating and transcribing that I help her with!

THROWBACK TUESDAY
Sometimes Emily show me fun and amazing things and this is absolutely one of them! This is a postcard, but I remember it as a poster hanging in my preschool. It shows all of the Danish kings and Queens from the very first Gorm the Old up until today where Queen Margrethe II is monarch of Denmark!

I wish I could show you cool pictures and awesome collections stuff like Emily. I’m not that fortunate, and I can’t really show you anything besides my little chubby office face because I’m working with semi-confidential stuff! I’m working with the Museums past marketing budgets to incorporate in our new marketing plan! So today is all about the number juggling!

Last weekend the museum was attending the tattoo convention in Omaha, NE, to promote our upcomming exhibit Tattoo: Identity Through Ink. I worked at our booth on Saturday night along with the new Danish intern, Sarah. That was a very fun experience - and people were overall positive about our presence there.
