Danny Rourke (played by. Ben Affleck), pt. 3
Movie: Hypnotic (2023)
dir. Robert Rodriguez
when I was watching Danny with Minnie, I can't help but imagine how Bruce could've been when he's with the Batfamily... 😭 So, yeah... As I said, as I'm waiting for Battinson to have his own Batfamily (Mr. Reeves, please be kind to me), I'll having my own agenda on Batfleck's Batfamily.

Angel Heart (1987) dir. by Alan Parker is based on the novel Falling Angel (1979) by William Hjortsberg. It was also adapted into an opera. The sequel Angel’s Inferno was published posthumous in 2020.
👹According to Nette (2020) the original novel was supposedly influenced by Benét’s 1936 short story, ‘The Devil and Daniel Webster’, about a New Hampshire farmer who sells his soul to the devil and is defended by Daniel Webster, a fictional take of the famous 19th century American statesman and lawyer.
However, I would think that as Krzywinska (2000) has said this is a version of the Faust story, so it is hundreds of years old. It would be interesting to find out why the European Faust folklore has settled into blues myths, such as the story of Robert Johnson🎸
🕵️♂️Angel Heart’s strength derives from how its fuses the familiar noir trope of the hard-drinking gumshoe who takes an apparently simple case that warps into something far more complex and dangerous, with a genuinely disturbing horror element. (Nette 2020)
👄Equally, the story contains material like the myth of Oedipus. It was quite a scandal when one of the "Cosby children" was f*** on the screen in a bloody rain as voodoo priestess Epiphany (with her father).
✝️The film Angel Heart is somewhat interested in the origins of voodoo (vodoun, hoodoo). However, the emphasis is on the symbols of Christianity. Voodoo is in this movie simply a Devil’s tool. This is also the effectiveness of the film. No voodoo dolls and zombies here🧟
🎶What I love in this movie is what Krzywinska (2000) has stated: ”The film rarely spells things out explicit, and in the main operates through association, and this is the principle that guides the connection between voodoo and Satanism.” Only Satanic perhaps? I also love the use of music in this movie. Blues, gospel, voodoo drums, lonely untuned piano and spiritual church music mixed with jazz saxophone and heartbeat sounds❤️

Diner (1982). A group of college-age buddies struggle with their imminent passage into adulthood in 1959 Baltimore.
Barry Levinson really has had such an interesting career, and he's certainly deft at capturing shifting relationships between men, but I don't know. This one didn't really do much for me? There's a bounce to it, but the characters never really become all that interesting, and the combination of navel-gazing and arrested development just never really felt like it went anywhere. It's okay, but not really my thing. 5/10.

Providence police officer Jeann Lugo was acquitted of a simple assault charge on Wednesday in District Court, Warwick.
Judge Joseph T. Houlihan said that during an abortion rights rally at the State House on the night of June 24, Lugo, then a Republican candidate for state Senate District 29, "approached [a] disturbance out of concern for the public order." Houlihan said Lugo and Jennifer Rourke, who was then his Democratic rival for the Senate seat, were "pressed forward by the crowd" when it surged and a "melee" ensued.
At the time, Houlihan said Lugo was attempting to go after an unidentified man in a green jacket who punched another man who was agitating protestors, identified as Josh Mello. Houlihan said Rourke held Lugo back, and the court accepted that Lugo was attempting to stop more violence.
"He has a duty to maintain the public order," Houlihan said, describing the "potential for further violence" as "imminent."
Houlihan added that the court could speculate that Lugo should have identified himself as a police officer, which he did not do despite claiming he intended to make an arrest, yet the situation unfolded "in a scant few seconds" – an argument the defense had made repeatedly.
Overall, the court did not see Lugo's conduct as unreasonable.
Leaving the courtroom, Lugo hugged a woman and left quickly without much comment to the media other than thanks for the coverage.
Lugo's attorney, Dan Griffin, said he was "very, very happy" about the verdict.
"He never should have been arrested in the first place," Griffin said, describing Lugo as "a kid who wanted to serve the city" and was "railroaded."
The verdict concludes a trial during which Griffin contended his client was acting within the bounds of police policy, which directs officers to act when they see a threat, even when off duty. However, that action, per section 202.2, could be as simple as calling for help from other officers.
In its decision, the court relied on footage showing that as Lugo jumped into the fray, Jennifer Rourke appeared to try to pull him back. Lugo eventually punched Rourke repeatedly.
Assistant Attorney General Daniel Carr Guglielmo staked his argument in part on Lugo's failure to identify himself as a police officer. But according to Middletown police Lt. David Bissonnette, a longtime use-of-force instructor, Lugo wasn't absolutely required to identify himself.
The adjudication of Lugo's case now clears the way for the Police Department to hold a separate hearing under the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights, which outlines a disciplinary process for officers accused of misconduct. Providence's chief of police, Col. Hugh Clements, recommended over the summer that Lugo be terminated. The hearing will determine whether he can keep his job.
In a statement released after the verdict, the Providence police union said the case "once again proves that we should not jump to conclusions of guilt or innocence when viewing one small piece of evidence."
"This kind of quick judgment destroys the morale and trust of officers," the union said. "In this case, the administration should have reserved judgment until all the facts and evidence were established."
Criticizing the city's current administration, the union contended that police "are used as pawns to further political agendas."
Conversely, the Black Lives Matter Rhode Island Political Action Committee released a statement in support of Rourke, saying "the justice system failed her, and we know at this time, her grief and trauma is indescribable."
"Today is a clear example of how policing in our state and capital city needs to be examined under heavy scrutiny," the group said. "To have an officer of the law, sworn to protect the rights of citizens in our community, attack a political figure exercising their right to free speech and public demonstration is a contradiction and stain on the validity of this officer’s employment and the Providence Police Department as a whole."

Review: As You Like It, @sohoplace
Review: As You Like It, @sohoplacelondon Plays interesting with gender and access
Josie Rourke’s As You Like It plays interestingly with gender and access at the brand spanking new @sohoplace “I’ll have no husband, if you be not he” Though I’m not sure I’ll ever forgive new theatre @sohoplace for sitting on the grave of the much-loved Astoria, it really is a lovely intimate space, the Donmar on steroids with something of the aesthetic of the Bridge in there too. As You Like It…

I see you followed me. I should warn you a lot (okay, almost all) of my Atlantis/Milo stuff that isn't reblogs is gonna be Milo/Rourke stuff (they don't have a neat couple name, its sad. :( ) because these two are my OTP for the fandom. They're literally canon in my head now.
I don't judge 😁 gay ships are my crack, I support them 10000% (unless it's incest or forced ofc). And to be fair I only watched that movie once so I have no memory of it so, really, as long as you're happy that's what matters most!!
Fair warning for mine: you've likely seen my blog is 100% Daniel; I am feral over the man and it's not likely gonna stop anytime soon (it's already been 3 years, oops), so if you can withstand that (totally understand if you don't want to, though), I personally don't think we'll have any problems!! 😅

Hey Merry, been thinking about Much Ado About Nothing. Had an inspired idea... Much Ado About Nothing starring Rose Matafeo and Nikesh Patel.
Also can you rate the adaptions that you have watched.
AHHHHHHHHH yes Erica!!! they would be SOOOOOOOO 🥺🥰😏 we need more adaptations where benedick and beatrice are poc (so far the only one I know of is the all Black production from 2019)!! okay so ranking:
2019 Shakespeare in the Park starring Danielle Brooks as Beatrice! I adore this version so much the line deliveries are so fucking perfect and the way the actors inject aave into the script is so fucking good. Danielle is my absolute favourite Beatrice 🥰
2013 production by Josie Rourke. Needs no intro, we love David and Catherine, the blue costuming motif, the staging!! It's perfect!!!!
Local production I saw in 2021. Feels weird to mention a production nobody can watch but alas! I got to see it in 2021 at the Sydney Opera House and the leads had insane chemistry but by far the best thing was that they changed the ending so Hiro doesn't marry Claudio and it was soooo galaxy brained 🥰
Much Ado About Nothing (2012). Dir. Don't Worry About It - I saw this when I was in high school studying the play and fun fact I actually really struggled studying Shakespeare in school because my English teacher was a piece of shit who didn't like me and didn't teach me to read it properly. But when I saw this movie.....everything kind of clicked? I remember sitting there like, "oh this is meant to be fun! It's meant to be SAID like words not read like a tragic poem" and it was literally the adaptation that kinda got me to understand how to like Shakespeare not just much ado.
Much Ado About Nothing (1993) - I just don't think Kenneth Brenaugh has ever had an interesting or compelling idea ever in his life and while this cast is stunning, the film itself sucks. Also he literally cheated on Emma Thompson
I've not seen them but would have killed to see RSC's afro-futurist production of it last year, and also National theatre Live's 1930s vibe one starring Katherine Parkinson just cos I love her <3
My dream production would be a lesbian production starring Pearl Mackie and Tnia Miller 🥺
