This is how I feel about Cyberpunk 2077 Its abolsutely a game that does what it sets out to do and does it well. I just wish it did something else.

The nihilistic grimdark lack of agency clung to as a totem of the genre has long stopped being any kind of call to action and is now just a way to back door support of the status quo. "The corps cannot be fought, they have already won, there is no space even in the cracks". The only person who says anything agasinst the corporate controll is a strawman, and actual resitance isnt even treated as a pipe dream. (with one singular DLC exeption which oddly makes it worse, the witers could have given us more dandlions in the cracks between corporate skycsrapers, and did not).

I think people really, really need to learn the difference between "this story was Poorly Written" and "I had extremely specific expectations of what I wanted this story to be and was extremely disappointed that it went in a different direction."

Similarly, people need to learn the difference between "this character was written Out-of-Character" and "I built up so many headcanons for this particular character that I wound up with my own extremely specific interpretation of them and was extremely disappointed when those headcanons were jossed."

You are allowed to experience disappointment when stories don't go in the direction you want them to! But that is not the same thing as those stories being poorly written.
