The Kitchen Follies! I love performance art and dance and Charles Atlas live VJ-ing and he looked so happy. His show is in the gallery and the follies are this weekend and next. Go! Beauty and fun and weird eroticism and dance and bouncing breasts and loud music and love. Today was a day I slept in a little so I had energy to go out in the evening. So glad I did. Nights like this and last week’s A Woman’s Place make me glad I live in New York. Thank you artists. Thank you Tyler’s legs. @mckenziewark3000 @thekitchen_nyc #dancenoise #monstahblack #theillustriousblacks #charlesatlas #laurieberg #joannaconstantine #stanleylove @lbergyberg @howlhappening @snappyseid @tal_yarden @scooterlaforge @tylerjashley #newyork #performanceart #dance #love

Since it has been 5 years since I conducted this interview with Gary I thought it needed to be reposted as many New Yorkers are not familiar with the club and theater ‘scene’ that was so happening when DARINKA was alive!
Listen in to Gary talk about his club and what was going on in NY during that time~

Charles Atlas: The ‘Guy With the Camera’ Who Loves Dance
“The Kitchen Follies,” inspired by the performance art and club scene on the Lower East Side during the ’80s, will bring some of those faces to life. For the program, Mr. Atlas is working with several artists he has chosen — including Dancenoise, the feminist performance duo of Anne Iobst and Lucy Sexton — each of whom will present 10-minute performances.

“New York Live Arts presents the world premiere of DANCENOISE ; Lock ‘em Up!, a new full evening length work marking the 35th year of creative collaboration between the legendary NYC performance staples and Bessie Award winners Anne Iobst and Lucy Sexton. Since 1983 the team has created across genre and performed across venues, including nightclubs, experimental black boxes, theaters and museums. In response to the current political climate, the enthralling duo takes the audience captive, delving into their experience of living, resisting, and trying to hang on to a shared humanity in their signature no-holds-barred feminist stage show escapade.”

“Combat boots and nudity, fake blood and a barrage of props. Dancenoise was feminism and showbiz rolled into one.” The New York Times profiles the duo, whose work is on view at the Whitney this week. Reserve tickets now.
