You (Aemond Targaryen) [1/2]
Tumblr media
TAGS: Aemond Targaryen/Dragoness!Reader, yandere themes, obsession, possessiveness, pining
If someone spoke of softness, the last person anyone would think of is Prince Aemond Targaryen. Of the current king’s children and of all the living Targaryens, his dragonsblood ran the hottest.
One might even say as hot as dragon fire.
However, he is thankfully no second coming of the Rogue Prince, Daemon Targaryen. And yet, there is no denying that his ferocity with a sword is on par with his royal uncle.
How fitting is it that it is to Daemon he falls to? Dark Sister pierced through his remaining eye as he fell into the God’s Eye, still strapped to the enormous mass of Vhagar.
Despite being a brutal death, it is a glorious end to the man that had the blood of dragonlords and conquerors coursing through his veins. Even through the excruciating pain, Aemond accepts his own death with grace and dignity as he surrenders himself to the Stranger.
.
.
.
“My very first Dragoon summon! Thank you for answering my call…Aemond? That’s a beautiful name. Well then, Aemond…Please take care of me!”
.
.
.
“Aemond is my first ever Dragoon. I don’t care even if it costs more to ascend him into a Draco Knight, Tabula-san!”
.
.
.
“I can’t believe it…Aemond looks even cooler in his new Draco Knight armor! And you don’t even have an eyepatch anymore. The sapphire makes you even more badass! Bukubukuchagama is gonna be so jealous when I show you off~!”
.
.
.
“Things have gotten a lot quieter since almost everyone had to leave…but at least I’ll always have Momo-chan, Nazarick, and you…right, Aemond?”
.
.
.
“YGGDRASIL will disappear and with it…everything my friends and I had worked so hard for…I’m so sorry for having to leave you and everyone else here. If there was any chance that I could stay…”
.
.
.
Please
I can’t go back to a world without you
Don’t go somewhere I can’t follow
.
.
.
“—mond! Quickly, fetch the maesters! My son is awake!”
And so, Aemond the Kinslayer awoke with only a single Targaryen-purple eye as the empty socket on his right throbbed from beneath the layers of bandages. He is once again a mere boy of ten summers who’d just lost his eye in exchange for the world’s largest dragon.
His mother, Queen Alicent, is near hysterical as he lay there, an uncharacteristic calm for a child that had permanently just lost half of his vision. And even as the maester arrived to attend to him, there was only one thing on his mind:
Y.O.U.

The young Prince Aemond seemed changed after the harrowing ordeal that had lost him an eye and gained him a dragon. He threw himself into his studies and swordsmanship as if in preparation for something bigger than a mere second prince.
Perhaps losing his eye had awakened the blood of kings and conquerors that laid dormant within his blood because it was he who sat upon the Iron Throne.
Unlike his older sister, Crown Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Aemond regularly involved himself in the affairs of the realm. Rather than leisurely enjoying his time from within the sturdy walls of the Red Keep, he seemed to have inherited the wisdom of the Wise King Jaeherys himself. Some say his brush with death at such a young age had also gotten him a blessing from the Crone.
During the last year of their father’s reign, his older brother, Prince Aegon II, willingly abdicated from the line of succession, becoming a staunch supporter of Aemond’s claim to the throne instead.
A second Great Council was petitioned by the nobles of Westeros themselves as King Viserys I rapidly deteriorating health signaled the end of his reign and what could only be civil war…
.
.
.
“The Baratheon sisters are quite comely, my son. Perhaps they might strike your fancy? Lord Lannisters daughters are also very fair—”
“ENOUGH. Mother, I’ve no use for these harlots in my court, much less my chambers. None of them could ever hold a candle to her…”
Queen Alicent bit her lip as she watched her younger son stare up at the large painting he’d commissioned from the kingdom’s greatest painter. It is of a maiden with striking Valyrian features with eyes the deepest burnt gold she’d ever seen.
And yet, the fair maid that had her son so enamored was a mystery to her. Aemond offered no explanation other than the fact that in his heart and his bed, there would only ever be her.

“Where is this place?”
“Beggin’ ‘yer pardon, me ladyship. But this be Dragonstone.”
“Dragonstone? I don’t think I know where that is either…”
“Ahh…Must’ve flown in from across the Narrow Sea recently then. Mighty odd that ‘yer not bein’ escorted by any knights. The King’ll whip ‘em himself once he finds out tha’ a member of his house is left unguarded…”
“The king?”
“King Aemond I. That gem-eye of his is a wee bit intimidatin’, but he actually gets shit done, so I ain’t complainin’.”
“...Aemond?”

forever annoyed by daeron the war criminal and his unearned moniker. cause what exactly did he do that was so special to earn him ‘the daring’ nickname? the answer is nothing. imo, it’s a classic case of medieval nepotism—he was given something he didn’t truly earn. though he at least showed some self-awareness based on his retort to being dubbed ‘ser daeron the daring’. but tbh, i think the fact that he was given that moniker shows how terrible the green princes PR was at the time. so it seems likely that this was a political ploy to make daeron stand out favorably compared to his brothers and to help the greens better compete with the blacks, who had the more favorable reputation at that point. so while dubbing daeron ‘the daring’ was certainly a smart move, i still find annoying af, especially since some parts of the fandom act like the moniker is deserved.

what is the obsession some people have with saying that house of the dragon is a ‘proper / true retelling of fire and blood’? i’ve seen this especially on tiktok, and i’m here to remind everyone who may think this.
house of the dragon is a prequel for an adaptation. it is, therefore, an adaptation itself. things were changed in game of thrones, things will change in house of the dragon. do not constantly compare the show to the books, when they are entirely two different subjects of media intended for two different demographics (show and book fans, respectively).
with that out of the way, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the show is following the “women good, perfect and innocent, man bad, cruel and evil” narrative. i do not understand it.
yes, the world of westeros is inherently sexist, patriarchal and misogynistic. yes, you can also have female characters navigate this said sexist, patriarchal and misogynistic world in a way that still acknowledges the character’s own arc and identity. just look at the books! sansa, catelyn, brienne, arya, daenerys—every single female character is incredibly complex and has an identity whilst still in a patriarchal world.

so a reviewer suggested to me that Quicksilver would have been a fantastic dragon for Abby and I just love and adore that idea. I've always been of the mind that Abby would be a Vermithor girl because Bronze Fury manifests Abby's need to go off because she struggles with that.
So because it's my bday and I get to be utterly self indulgent, I want to know what Dragon do you think would be Abby's dragon
(no, she's not getting a dragon, also she's Sunfyre's mommy already but in the little world of 'if Abby had a dragon' fun times)

Also, also, where is Alicent's rage? We saw it on Driftmark when Aemond got his eye out. Where was her rage for Jaehaerys? Now was the time to break her whole "just wants peace" era. Olivia Cooke has the range to show Alicent's vengefulness and her complex relationship with Rhaenyra and they won't give her the room to do it. Let Olivia cook.

"What's holding you back?" to Aemond
Tumblr media
❝Loyalty to my brother His Grace the King and his children.❞ Aemond's voice was as sharp as a whip some dragonlords ordered their dragons with as he began climbing up to his saddle to mount Vhagar the Green Tyrant of Westeros. The colossal she-dragon shook her head with a deep rumbling rising from her throat, a sound that could be heard from miles away, as her jaws opened to reveal several rows of teeth as sharp as longswords as Aemond looked down at the Master of Whisperers from his saddle, handling the reins tightly in his hands, his one violet eye never leaving him. Lord Larys, a fellow second son and a cripple, so often underestimated when he'd in fact had great value to those he served, he'd found a sense of solidarity and respect of him, seeing as they had a similar upbringing, always in the shadow of their elder brothers, destined for greatness and striving for more. His eye hurts thinking about that night on Driftmark; he remembers it like yesterday.
Only... to this day, although it was mere speculation on his part, Aemond had thought it all too convenient that one night Harrenhal, that damp, haunted castle, could burst into flames so easily and killing both the father and the son. A clever move, perhaps. There were others rumors circulating, too. Some blamed it on the curse of Harrenhal, others suspected Prince Daemon Targaryen, whose motive would have been eliminating a rival for the Princess Rhaenyra's affections; Lord Corlys Velaryon, as revenge for Harwin replacing his son Ser Laenor Velaryon and some even believed his own father King Viserys I intended to eliminate the man who brought dishonor on his house, although he found the latter to be only a lie: his father would be a craven and a fool to remove one of his most trusted advisors alongside one of Rhaenyra's pets. Perhaps he'd never know, and right now, he could care less, that was so long ago. Harrenhal was his destination, now. He and Cole would march on the castle soon. They shall suffer the dragon's mercy.
Vhagar gnashed her teeth together with a hiss, a spark of flames from her large jaws. A warning. The great she-dragon began to move, her steps leaving behind gargantuan footprints as she prepared to leap and take flight into the skies above. Lord Larys Strong was ever useful, but Aemond had never forgotten what happened. Do not fail us, do not betray us, or you shall suffer the dragon's mercy, as well.
❝Take care of the King, my sweet sister and her children in my absence, Lord Larys,❞ he ordered him, a gloved hand pointing to him, his voice raising with authority, ❝If something happens to any of them under your watch ever again, I will hang you from the highest tower in the Red Keep and feed you to Vhagar.❞

❝ Do you believe they truly have a chance to  win? ❞ If anyone will be truthful, it will be her brothers; and when it comes to strategy, 'tis the eldest who shines most brightly. Big brown eyes, more clever than sweet, wait for the reaction upon his face ( but the fidgeting with her necklace gives away the worry her serene expression belies ). ❝ The Greens, I mean. ❞❝ Rhaenyra has more dragons, and her father's favor besides, ❞ Deceased though the old king is, now, vows had been sworn. They were bound to have some weight when it came to alliances, no matter how little stock some put to them. Highgarden had said the words too, and yet father now chose to support Rhaenyra's enemies. They are kin to Alicent and her children; cousins to some degree through mother's side. Not that it matters. Father had chosen who to fight for based on the crown that would make her Aegon II's queen. Grandmother had called him a fool, and Margaery can only think she is right. ❝ Aegon is said to be quick to anger and little interested in ruling. I might be able to bend him, perhaps, but — ❞ we cannot fight dragons.

I honestly think Viserys’ sickness came from the nick (or a previous nick) he got from the Iron Thone. I’m pretty sure his health only really started to go downhill when he cut himself on the Iron Throne. I mean, all those swords on the Iron Throne and everything that has happened to it has probably made that thing a major hazard to anyone who sits on it. One little cut could lead to some serious infection.
What I also find interesting about this is the fact that in Fire & Blood there is a part where a big deal is made about the fact Rhaenyra cut herself on the Iron Throne. According to superstition, being cut by the throne means the person sitting on it is unworthy to rule. Now, the author of the text makes it clear that this is just a silly superstition... but I find it an interesting detail to include in the adaption. Could it be argued that the Iron Throne knew Viserys was not truly the rightful king?
Personally, I think he got an infection from a cut and the maesters were unable to cure it. But I do find the fact that we’re shown two separate in-universe indicators of “true rulership” go against Viserys (being cut by the Iron Throne and the White Hart) quite interesting. Could it be the show putting forward the idea that maybe Targaryen rule should have ended at that point? Doubtful...
I’d be interested to see if Rhaenyra ends up being cut by the Iron Throne in the show. Maybe we’ll see Aegon II being cut and an infection similar to Viserys’ making all the injuries he’ll get during the war worse.
