Okay, so here's a confusing thing:
Among the 50 Danaids both Apollodorus' Library and Tzetzes' account mention a Gorgophone as one of Danaus' daughters:
Apollodorus, Library:
"But the sons of Egyptus came to Argos, and exhorted Danaus to lay aside his enmity, and begged to marry his daughters. Now Danaus distrusted their professions and bore them a grudge on account of his exile; nevertheless he consented to the marriage and allotted the damsels among them. First, they picked out Hypermnestra as the eldest to be the wife of Lynceus, and Gorgophone to be the wife of Proteus; for Lynceus and Proteus had been borne to Egyptus by a woman of royal blood, Argyphia; but of the rest Busiris, Enceladus, Lycus, and Daiphron obtained by lot the daughters that had been borne to Danaus by Europe, to wit, Automate, Amymone, Agave, and Scaea. These daughters were borne to Danaus by a queen; but Gorgophone and Hypermnestra were borne to him by Elephantis."
Which doesn't make sense to me, because Gorgophone literally means gorgon's slayer, and it's the exact same name Perseus gave to his daughter. Furthermore, this Gorgophone was Hypermenstra's sister, who is Perseus' great-great-grandmother. Therefore this myth of the Danaids took place long before Medusa was killed, therefore there wasn't any gorgon's slayer around yet, therefore naming one of the Danaids Gorgophone is technically a huge head scratcher.

Outside of the Perseus myth, can you think of other instances of Athena and Hermes being paired with eachother as a duo?
Tumblr media
Apollodorus The Library book 2
There’s probably a more well known myth but this is the first that came to mind, Danaus is Perseus’s ancestor coincidentally.

I think Danaid is really underrated. She is one of my favorites in arc 3. For those who don't remember, Danaid is an elderly silkwing from Wasp's flamesilk factory.
Firstly, she is the only dragon in the factory who's in her mind. Everyone else lost their sanity while living in the factory; they are either exhausted or easily annoyed, and Admiral has false hopes and tries to make everyone believe that keeping dragons as literal slaves and a source of fuel is normal and fine. While Danaid is the only dragon who is actually nice to Blue and Luna. She explains them everything about the factory. Warns them. Helps them. She is the one who helped the siblings escape; of course, Sundew and Cricket came first, but Danaid helped to distract the crowd when Blue and Luna were running away. And then in the end Danaid said something like "hope to see ya later"... And we never saw her again.
I really hoped to see flamesilks being set free in the epilogue of The Flames of Hope. I wanted to see them adapting to the new life, and see Danaid finally reunite with Blue and Luna, and act like a bittersweet granny to them; as much as I wanted to see her interact with Scarab and Sequoia, two other grannies I really adore. There's also a strange thought living in my head, implying Danaid is actually queen Monarch's daughter, since Monarch was the first flamesilk to be imprisoned in the factory, and they resemble each other; as well as Danaid being the genus of butterflies where Monarch butterflies come from.
And I only see people remembering her by one phrase: "go suck a lime"... It makes me so sad. I feel like Tui just forgot about Danaid and other flamesilks. Are there any other Danaid enjoyers out here? :(

Day 28 of drawing random Wof dragons from the wiki…
Tumblr media
Danaid!
”Danaid is an elderly female SilkWing who was introduced in The Lost Continent. She is one of ten flamesilk dragons who were imprisoned by Ex-Queen Wasp and was last seen enslaved in the flamesilk factory.” -The WOF wiki.

If you’re interested then I think Danaid (the flamesilk from arc 3 who helps Blue and Luna) or Osprey could be cool, but I don’t know how you find drawing more elderly dragons so if you’re not interested in doing either of them that’s okay!
I decided to do Danaid
Tumblr media
I honestly don't remember much about her, but reading her wiki page made me wish I did. She sounds pretty cool, even for a background character that only appears in one book. I also absolutely loved her colors and design.
Hope you enjoy 😊

okay. so. i don’t see nearly enough people talking about this
danaid has to be one of my favorite side characters in arc 3 and here’s why !!!
(possible spoilers for book 11 wof)
despite the fact that she barely interacted with blue at all, she still deciphered that blue was trying to escape, and- knowing she wouldn’t be able to come with- still decided to help him by starting to argue with admiral. without that, there’s no way blue and luna could’ve escaped. she helped them because she didn’t want them to suffer like her and all the other flamesilks did. we love danaid in this household 🫶🫶🫶
had to make a adjustment shdjjddjj

Danaid... return to me.. please. I love her so much, and I seen a post about how Monarch was the first flamesilk prisoned, and both Danaid and her are orange, flamesilks, and their names come from the same genus of butterflies, which gives us the possible conclusion Danaid is a decadent of Monarch. QUERN DANAID!!! GUYS, PLEASE CONSIDER THIS ITS SUCH A COOL IDEA. Though if Danaid realized she was royalty, she would just use it as a brag and prefer not to be a queen. She just wants to spend her elderly years learning and adjusting to new dragon life once she was freed from the Flamesilk prisons. Also, in the post, it was mentioned Danaid becoming this kooky grandmother figure towards Blue and Luna, which is such a fantastic idea, btw, but consider Danaid x Silverspot x Burnet polycule yuri. I mean, she can still be a grandmother figure. She's just involved in yuri. Like I want to play Bingo with her. Someone introduce her to whatever the wof version of Bingo is, please, she would be so competitive and crazy about it. Okay, hc she would get involved with gambling because of bingo guys I'm not crazy I swear–

okay i always found that it was hypocritical that the Danaids got punished in the underworld but their father not because this was his idea in the first place
I actually prefer the ending that they were purified by Athena and Hermes, and got to remarry men that wouldn’t chase them out of their country and actually respect them and their father.

Apollodorus, 2.1.5

There’s also the fact that Aegyptus and his sons were planning to kill the Danaides so the gods probably realized that it wouldn’t be fair to punish them for self defense.
