I’ve always loved writing story songs, and using tales of other people as a way into making music and talking about my experiences in life. Over the last few years, I’ve been working on a whole load of songs about people who I think are fascinating, and whose lives really spoke to me. I wrote these songs at my kitchen table, so they needed to sound homemade, and intimate, and warm. For me, it’s been the most brilliant, fun, and chilled process, while also trying to do justice to the lives and stories of these amazing people. And now, I’m really excited to start sharing it with you.

I have a confession y’all
When I was at the ripe, impressionable age of 14 I became obsessed with Bastille and watched countless interviews of the boys to catch up on the fandom. One time I watched an interview where Dan said that he never used hair conditioner (because for some reason every interviewer had to ask at least one uncomfortable question about his quiff). And so I decided that I wanted to be like Dan and not use conditioner because he was cool (and because I too was a fan of his hair). So I stopped using hair conditioner and my hair actually became much healthier. In fact, conditioner made my hair so greasy and flat, and when I stopped using it I got so many compliments.
I am currently 23 years old and in graduate school, and I still do not use hair conditioner. I probably save myself like $60 a year by not buying it, but every time I have to explain to my roommates why I don’t use conditioner I come up with a lie. Because how could I say that the reason I figured out my hair was better without conditioner was because I wanted to be like a 29 year old British man with funky music.
I also still wear black vans because of Dan, but that’s another story
