Read about concert in Hempstead honoring veterans and wonder if friends of mine are getting some work. Look it up. "Concert" in this case means a "cover" rock band. Oh. Bummer.

Odd weather. The sun is out but their are distant salvos of thunder. The thunderstorm that was predicted does not arrive. Light rain later. The air still awful and my eyes still itch.

Obit for Robert Sherman, of WQXR fame. 90. (Son of pianist Nina Reienberg.) He always looked, and sounded, so youthful. Did a great deal for the music community. Did not have a voice for radio. Very high pitched and somewhat choked. Despite this he liked to narrate pieces that were accompanied with music to (unintended) comical effect. Because of his involvement with concerts I saw him many times. Not long ago he spoke at the concert in New Rochelle. Nice man. A good friend in the music world.

The American Federation of Musicians had their annual convention in Las Vegas (all of the dues money blown). Tino Gagliardi, a local, was appointed president. At long last, and practially out of the business, I am now a friend (!) of the guy in charge. When I first came here, in the late Sixties, I was afraid of the old guard (many of whom, you will remember, suggested Damon Runyan characters). They deeply intimidated me. Funny. Ironic. Some of them were "On the Waterfront" types. Some were nonentities. What a buch. They were finally voted out. It took some doing.
