CROWNS
Crowns are prosthetic devices cemented onto existing teeth, essentially acting like a “cap” and covering a badly damaged or decayed tooth. The purpose of a dental crown is to protect the fragile tooth from fracture and give extra strength to the remaining tooth structure. Fractures, chipping and cracks frequently happen to teeth with large existing restorations or teeth under excessive load, as in sleep grinders and people who clench a lot.It can also improve the physical appearance of discoloured teeth. A dental crown also perfectly matches natural tooth colour and shape. At our practice, we do different types of crowns.
Crown is advised in the following cases:
Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining
Restore a fractured tooth
Attach a bridge
Cover a dental implant
Cover a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth
Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment
The procedure of getting a crown requires a detailed impression of the tooth (or gum if the tooth is missing).
The impression is then taken and will replicate the tooth, allowing a true duplicate of a tooth, from the minor details, including the colour and shape. Finally, upon completion of the crown, it is fitted and permanently bonded to the tooth/teeth.
If you are suffering from tooth loss or damage, contact us today.
BRIDGES
A bridge may be recommended if a person misses one or more teeth. Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty spaces, resulting in a bad bite, also food impaction. The imbalance caused by missing teeth can also lead to gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Bridges are tooth-coloured prosthetic devices that can be fixed or removable, anchored to neighbouring teeth for support and to replace missing tooth/teeth.
Dental bridges look and function like normal teeth and can be hard to distinguish from natural teeth. Bridges may also help reduce the risk of gum disease and help correct biting issues.
Depending on the position of a missing tooth and surrounding teeth, various bridges are available to choose from. A fixed bridge cements the natural teeth or implants surrounding the space. Fixed bridges are fixed and cannot be taken out of your mouth.
The bridge is fused between two porcelain crowns to fill the missing tooth area or teeth.
How long do crowns and Bridges Last?
While crowns and bridges can last a lifetime, they sometimes become loose or fall out. The most important step you can take to ensure the longevity of your crown or bridge is to practice good oral hygiene. A bridge can lose its support if the teeth or bone holding it in place are damaged by dental disease.
Keep your gums and teeth healthy by brushing with fluoride toothpaste twice daily and flossing daily. Also, see us regularly for check-ups and professional cleanings.
To prevent damage to your new crown or bridge, avoid chewing hard foods, ice or other hard objects.
A chipped tooth can definitely be a frustrating issue, but the good news is there are several ways to fix it! Depending on the severity of the chip, treatment options could include:
Bonding: A tooth-colored resin is applied to the chipped area to restore the shape and appearance of the tooth.
Veneers: If the chip is more noticeable or larger, a veneer can be placed over the front of the tooth for a smooth, natural look.
Dental Crown: For more significant chips, a crown may be recommended to cover the entire tooth and restore its function and appearance.
Filing: If the chip is small, the dentist might be able to simply smooth it out, preventing it from causing further damage.
Have you experienced a chipped tooth, or are you just curious about how to handle it?
A crown and bridge are common dental restorations used to restore damaged or missing teeth. They both serve to improve the function and appearance of your smile. Here's a quick breakdown:
Dental Crown:
A crown is a cap that covers a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its size, shape, and strength. Crowns are used when a tooth is severely damaged due to decay, a large filling, or a chip. They can be made from various materials, such as:
Porcelain: Matches the natural color of your teeth.
Metal: Durable and ideal for back teeth, but they’re not as aesthetic.
Porcelain-fused-to-metal: A good balance between strength and appearance.
Zirconia: A very durable and aesthetic option.
Dental Bridge:
A bridge is used when one or more teeth are missing. It "bridges" the gap by using two crowns on adjacent teeth to hold a false tooth (pontic) in place. It's like a permanent replacement for missing teeth and can help restore chewing function, prevent remaining teeth from shifting, and improve your smile.
How it works:
The dentist prepares the adjacent teeth by filing them down to accommodate the crowns.
Impressions are taken to create the bridge, which is usually made of porcelain or a combination of materials for strength and aesthetics.
Once the bridge is ready, the crowns are placed over the prepared teeth, and the pontic is anchored in place.
Both options are durable and can be customized to match the natural look of your teeth.
Are you considering a crown and bridge for yourself, or just learning about the options?

i love doing character analysis for minthara because shes such a wonderful hypocrite. she has a lot of deeply reactionary political views but she makes it openly known shes willing to suspend just about all of them because youve become more important to her than nearly anything else. deeply opinionated but never pushes you to do something you wont throw your weight behind, and if your her partner shell suspend all the "survival of the fittest" cultural upbringing she finds so much sense and empowerment in to make an exception for you specifically and no one else.
i love her

Kingdom Hearts 3 - Rage Form
#kingdom hearts 3#kh3#sora#rage form#arendelle#formchange#my gif#rage form is so intriguing#sora still behaves in a wild animalistic fashion similar to his anti form but it's different#anti form felt as if he relinquished all self control and acted strictly on instinct just like a heartless#he used to run around hunched over on all fours and fight tooth and claw with reckless abandon#but here you can at least see SOME semblance of who he is. he's able to wield his keyblade while in this form which is pretty major#he still fights in an absolutely chaotic and primal manner but it feels evolved#the big difference is you call upon rage form at will. he channels his rage and darkness in a desperate last resort to stay alive#which is very significant but he still loses some control like the ability to use of magic; items; shotlocks; etc#it's cool to see darkness used in this way but i really want sora to able to explore themes of darkness within himself in future games#i want these to be more than cool forms with fun gameplay. i want them to have implications that something dark is brewing and needs to be-#brought to the surface and tackled head on because we've never seen anyone capable of cloaking themselves in darkness in such a way#take riku's dark form for example. he's in control and he's very much still himself. it's entirely different#on another note i'm now thinking about how hp is fully restored when activating rage form but you have the choice to give it up again-#when using risk charge. it'll increase attack damage but you're still walking a dangerous line in the pursuit of power

one of the dts producers saying that there are literal fans out there who do not watch the actual f1 season, just so they won't get spoilers for the next season of dts, is making me wail and ask the universe what crime i committed in my past life to be cursed with this coexistence.

i just had an ancient fandom memory unlocked which i need to share with you all 🙈 many of you are far too young to remember the halcyon days of early-2010s-Tumblr...particularly a pre-Once-ler Tumblr. so there may be a good chunk of you who weren't present for the insanity that was the Portal fandom, and specifically the fixation around Wheatley: one of the earliest Tumblr Sexymen 😳 so strap in for a little Tumblr Sexyman History...!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
meet Wheatley, your companion and later-turned-antagonist in the enormously beloved Portal 2. bumbling and never able to shut his digital mouth, Wheatley is a Personality Core: a type of artificial intelligence housed in a metal sphere, developed by Aperture Science. specifically, Wheatley is an Intelligence Dampening Sphere. he was developed to attach to GLaDOS, the main antagonist of the whole series, to distract her with a litany of terrible ideas 😂
however, Wheatley doesn't remain amiable for long. in a scheme to dethrone GLaDOS and escape the facility you (or your playable character, Chell) are trapped in, you perform a core transfer, placing Wheatley in GLaDOS's chassis. the sheer power of being in control of the entire facility immediately goes to Wheatley's head, transforming him into an evil, sadistic, Machiavellian figure who forces you to perform test after test for his own satisfaction. also, he has a British (Bristolian!) accent. you can see the recipe for obsession, right? 😂💖
however, this was a time wherein fandom tastes were a little different. while today we are delighted to obsess over characters with unusual designs (and particularly thirst over characters of the robot/android/objectum/etc. variety), 'White Twink Humanisation' was rife in the early 2010s. if you've seen humanisations of Bill Cipher and ideas of what Cecil Palmer looked like, as well as the site's preoccupation with pale gangly weirdos (David Tennant and Matt Smith's Tenth and Eleventh Doctors come to mind), you can imagine that the urge to humanise Wheatley was huge.
Tumblr media
enter Stephen Merchant: Wheatley's actual voice actor, who just so happens to be a six-foot-seven, gangly, nerdy British guy. fanfic author Wafflestories wrote an extremely well-known Wheatley redemption fic called Blue Sky, wherein Wheatley is able to control a hard-light human version of himself...who bears a striking resemblance to the real-life Stephen Merchant. the Portal fandom unanimously decided that human Wheatley looked just like Stephen Merchant—a design trend we still see today!! 😳 here's where the cursed forbidden memory comes in. we were so goddamn obsessed with Wheatley. we wanted to see him as a human so badly. so we went through Stephen Merchant's filmography, and...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is Tracy, Stephen's character in Tooth Fairy (2010), starring Dwayne the Rock Johnson 😂 Tracy is a wingless caseworker fairy assigned to the Rock's character Derek, an ordinary man who becomes a tooth fairy against his will. Tracy is...unhinged. bizarrely intense. a delightfully weird and memorable character in a movie that can only be described as a fever dream, played with idiosyncrasies only Stephen Merchant is capable of. i recently found out it was directed by Michael Lembeck, who directed both The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3 🙈💖 yes. for some ungodly reason, plenty of us Wheatley simps decided that not only was Stephen Merchant the faceclaim for human Wheatley...but this specific iteration of Stephen Merchant as a wingless tooth fairy. Tracy had his own little dedicated fanbase complete with ask blogs and fanart and extended Tooth Fairy lore. of course Tracy's popularity was helped along by his dapper dress sense and his...interesting personality. there was even a joking trend called 'Tracy Goes Insane 2011', wherein fans made a significantly more yandere, knifemurder-esque version of Tracy after he finally snapped. truly incredible 👏 so there you have it. we all started simping for a silly little metal ball who got drunk on testing juice and went full Joker mode, decided that he needed to resemble his tall, handsome voice actor, and consequently became obsessed with his stint as a deranged tooth fairy. and so it shall be written. thanks for reading 🙏💖

Do You Know What Dry Socket Is?
Informational post about something a lot of people might be unaware of.
So, let’s say you loose a tooth. You fell and knock it out, maybe you pulled it at home for whatever reason. All that is important in this scenario is that you’ve lost a tooth outside of a dentist visit, so there is no field professional there to walk you through the healing process.
Now, how do you recover from this? Saltwater rinse, wad of cotton to help slow the bleeding, painkillers, eating soft foods. It stands to reason that, like any other recovery period that involves the mouth and teeth, you’d also need a straw. Makes sense, easier to get liquid into your mouth and you’ll have more control over where in your mouth it goes. Makes sense, right?
You are about to give yourself dry socket.
The main difference between most other well known recovery periods from a jaw / mouth injury, is that the act of sucking on a straw can dislodge the blood clot from your gums.
The reason is, for a few days, your blood clot is actually smaller than the hole left behind by the missing tooth. Gums do heal quicker than most other tissue on your body , so the opening will close to be smaller than the blood clot itself. But there is a period of time, the first few days of healing, that the blood clot is at a serious risk of coming loose or being dissolved away . This risk does not truly go away until healing is over , but the likelyhood slowly goes down.
This blood clot being removed will reveal the traumatized and damaged nerve + the jaw bone to the open . Unsurprisingly, this is extraordinary pain, that nothing can soothe. Any fluid gets into the wound ? Food particles ? You inhale / exhale too hard ? That nerve is going to Ache. Not to mention , you’ re at an even higher infection risk now .
And the things that can cause dry socket are so innocuous , that unless you know about the possibility , you may do these actions without thinking.
1) Straws ( and Sucking )
The pressure from drinking through a straw is enough to pull the blood clot from your gums . This pressure can be caused by anything that requires sucking , this includes smoking as well . Anything that requires a strong pull into your mouth to eat / ingest is exerting the same pull on your loose blood clot . If you suck on a straw now , you can feel the kind of pressure vacuum you make in your mouth . That pressure does not care about what it might cause to dislodge .
2) Spitting Out Blood
At least , for the first 24 hours . After 24 hours ( specifically , after your gums stop consistently bleeding ) and you start doing saltwater rinses , you’ re free to spit . But regardless , forceful spitting can do the exact same damage as drinking from a straw . It’ s the pressure and force you cause . When you do saltwater rinses , don’ t really swish. Tilt your head side to side and slowly push the water around . For the first 24 hours , you are encouraged to swallow blood instead of spitting , to avoid the risk of spitting out the start of a blood clot and prolonging the bleeding cycle . Keep in mind the nausea this can cause .
3) Alcohol and Hot Food/Liquid
Paring these together since they cause similar issues . Alcohol can melt a blood clot , and abundance of heat can increase blood flow too the clot . Both of these will cause the clot to dissolve or come loose , but cold food/drink is more recommended . Yes , cold can cause an ache if it manages to come into direct contact with the healing area , but it will not affect the blood clot as seriously as hot food/drink will . Room temperature is also okay for consumption.
4) Exercise
Light exercise is okay , but anything that ups your heart-rate is upping blood flow to your wound . Nothing strenuous, nothing that pushes endurance , nothing that you know will exhaust you . Even if you heart-rate jumps from something like chasing a cat down because they have something they shouldn’ t have can cause increased blood flow ( trust me , it felt like I was undergoing divine punishment because I stopped my cat from eating a tuff of dog hair . ) The sudden taste of blood is a warning to slow down what you’re doing .
While dry socket can heal on it’s own, the gums will cover the exposed bone regardless of if there’s a clot there or not, this pain is not something anyone deserves to struggle with . Once again , dealing with dry socket is dealing exposed bone and nerve .
Dentists are expensive , and if you cannot afford a dental visit after the loss of a tooth, I only want you to be aware of one of the more serious complications that come with such a thing happening . Everyone deserves to heal in comfort , and I only want people to have the best chance at having a complication free healing process .
