See, this is a huge problem with Riordan, evident in the series and now in the new cash-grab books: it feels like a bunch of apologies.

“Oh I’m sorry my humor is dated for the early 2000’s, we can do away with that”

“Oh I’m sorry Poseidon wasn’t a better father straight away, I’ll get right on that”

“Oh I’m sorry I made Sally Jackson a murderer, what was I thinking?”

“Oh I’m sorry I didn’t do more for my young queer readers, let me add more queerbaiting and contextualize more in post, that worked great for JK, everyone still likes her, right?”

It’s performative and shallow and shows not a desire to grow as a writer or as a person, but to have been seen as better than he was and better than he is now without putting in the actual effort. All he succeeded in doing was put a division between older fans who grew up and made the franchise popular with their contributions to the fandom, and a new generation who are going to have a disingenuous and insincere hodgepodge of reference material and increasingly frivolous drivel to call ‘canon’.

And his response and the response of his stans are to call these criticisms racist or fanboyish gate-keeping or best of all say “well it’s not meant for you, maybe it never was”. My attention and my efforts and my money was good enough back when I didn’t have my own money to spend.

Also, out of all demigods never noticing Chiron had a significant limp, Percy should have noticed with his hard-wired special interest in horses, being Poseidon's son.

Recently I’ve started rereading “Percy Jackson And The Olympians” probably one of my favourite book series from my childhood, and dam it’s hitting me hard. Yes, the writing feels a bit clumsy sometimes(it was written for 12 year olds) but there’s just something so satisfying about reading a series that has undeniably shaped your writing, humour, and personality, and all these years later it still hits you in all the same spots and some new ones.

Like there is a whole new layer of tragedy inherent to being a demigod that I’ve only been able to see since getting older and moving into adulthood.

It’s been years since I’ve read any of the series, but I still hug my mom extra tight after learning about May Castellan, I still shout when the party ponies save the day! I still get teary eyed for Beckendorf, Silena, Michael Yew, even Luke.

With the renaissance PJO has had since the show came out, it’s awesome watching all the new fans, and the old fans, coming back towhat was my childhood.

I love this series, and even though I don’t care much for the later stories(I haven’t read any of his series since Magnus Chase, tried reading Trials of Apollo, but it was a slog and I stopped three books in) I’m so very grateful that Rick Riordan put these stories into the world, so grateful for the world and characters he built that helping me when it felt like the whole world was against me.

The thing that makes me so happy is the fact that those of us who grew up with the Percy Jackson books are now old enough to really enjoy the show and understand the changes. The twelve year old in me heals every-time I watch videos of people preparing trays of blue cookies and setting up blue candy bowls for a watch party. The fact that the show is not a word for word adaptation but rather has nuances that we as adults can pick up on while also being simple enough for the actual twelve year olds watching is testament to the genius of Rick Riordan and his fan service. Anyways I just love how every social media I use is full of PJo stuff, happy healing you guys. Let’s celebrate every week with those dam cookies!💙🐬

Honestly looking at the PJO fandom I realized a thing.

Whenever I see a post talking about/enjoying a non canon ship, there’s usually one person or more saying “Uhmmm, [insert canon ship with character(s)] 🔛🔝” and I get it, sometimes a canon ship is your go-to. It’s canon and usually very sweet and healthy with the PJO series.

But one thing people need to understand is that fandom is about everything about its material, canon AND fanon!

Ship those characters! Make that character AroAce! Make Percy a transgirl or genderfluid! Indulge in a certain rare pair or even a common ship! Not everything has to be completely canon if you write about it/draw it. That’s what fandom is for.

Fandom is for the fans to make things they enjoy and stuff they wish happened in the material, or they don’t even wish it happened in the material and just want to write about it! It’s really just fictional stuff, it isn’t gonna hurt anybody.

But I’m well aware that boundaries are different, what I might consider a harmless ship might be something someone considers erasing a part of a character’s development with their canon partner.

But what I’m getting at is please for the love of Rick Riordan just don’t interact with a thing you don’t like that isn’t harming anyone and is just fun for the person/people doing it, this implies to all fandoms.

I don’t care if it doesn’t make sense since the characters never interacted that much/at all. What’s the point of shipping something if it’s revolving around the same pairing over and over again?

It doesn’t matter if it’s something as bizarre as ShowTime from TADC, or Lillow from TOH, or Percico from PJO, or even the animatronics from Sister Location. It’s 👏 Just 👏 A 👏 Dam 👏 Ship 👏

Even if you were to continuously harass the content creators you see for them, somebody is still gonna do it. No way of preventing it no matter how hard you try. So just let people indulge with their silly little fictional pairing that isn’t canon, and you can move along your merry way with your canon silly little fictional pairing.

TLDR: Let people ship non canon things if it isn’t doing harm, even if said characters are already in a canon relationship. It will happen even if you harass people for it.

HEY YOU, how do your version of the Riordan verse characters act drunk, and your oc’s

I'm just gonna do the trio or we will be here ALL day

(also please notes all of the CDS kids have a very healthy relationship with alcohol because of how they were raised. My CHB has a drinking age of 16, and its is heavily peer monitored so everyone is safe and responsible. They have a whole god of wine, there are holy days and celebrations that require it, so I feel like camp has a younger drinking age. There is alcohol education when they get sex ed)

Colton actually doesn't really like to be drunk drunk, he's the most likely to be the DD but also the most likely to bring alcohol as a gift or for celebration. He's a very chill drunk, but he prefers a light buzz. He has also seen the mortal HS party scene and really hates that

Lettie is a heavyweight because she giant. She is a quiet drunk, but she will also just wonder the fuck off so you have to keep an eye on her. She can also be a more open flirt when drunk, which is a huge problem for Katie hot dam. She's pretty neutral on being intoxicated, but doesn't get drunk often because she's such a heavyweight

Katie is a goblin. If you think she is ready to tackle people at a moments notest when she is sober just wait until she's drunk. She will also forget what language she's speaking. Just full on speaking Italian and Wolf at the same time and not realizing it.

Katie tackles him in her excitement and immediately starts rolling on Colton on her back. It's a very wolf-grandma action, and it hurts like shit because Katie is not a puppy and has never grown out of her sharp knees and elbows. It takes multiple tries to disengage from being rolled on, but that turns into drunk wrestling with lots of kicking. Colton can feel the bruises forming but he does get some good pins in before they both knock their skulls into a table

This was Nico’s first job. He knew that, technically, he didn’t need to work a single day for the rest of his life, having Pluto as his father. He could literally go ask his dad for a infinite credit card. Is not like he hadn’t taken many from him before. Di Immortales, he still used Jules-Albert, the French zombie chauffeur Hades had gifted him for his birthday after the Second Titan War. Sue him, it was just much more convenient went he and his friends wanted to go out of Camp Jupiter and into the Mortal World for some really quick (to avoid encountering monsters) fun. Which wasn’t exactly achievable if he always fainted immediately after shadow travelling to where they wanted to go.

Thus, the French zombie chauffeur. However, pocket money was something else entirely. After the Second Giant War, in which Nico had found friendship (a concept before so foreign to him) in Praetors Jason and Reyna… oh, if someone had told him when he first enter Camp Jupiter that he would become close with the Praetors, Nico wouldn’t have believed it. Dam, if someone had told him that after he run away from Camp, he would had laughed and look at the person as if they were insane…

Regardless, he now had very persistent friends who cared for him and had been able to convince him that maybe staying at New Rome with them wouldn’t be that bad. However, Nico couldn’t spend all of his time with his busy praetor friends so, the year after the War, he started attending several study groups to get the education he severely lacked. He probably should had attended normal classes but, having not touched a school since he was 8 and that being more than 50 years ago, he would had been forced to start from Primary and he would rather fade into nothingness (which had almost happen before!) than learn next to little children (practically toddlers!). So study groups it was!

However, three years had come and go and, with the help of the other people at the study groups (specially one Annabeth Chase, daughter of Minerva, who was in charge of leading), he was finally up-to-date with his 21st Century peers (oh, what a headache delight). However, that left him with a huge hole in his days to fill or else die from boredom, which would greatly disappoint his father… he could already hear him saying “Son, of all the ways you can die, you chose this?” in his head over and over again… maybe he actually was saying it….

Agh, getting back to the topic at hand: so, when a Video Games store open at New Rome’s tiny mall, he went and applied for a job there. He had spent 80 years in the Lotus Casino playing every video game imaginable, so who better qualify for the job that him? Well, in all honesty there were probably tons of people (who this wouldn’t be their first job and who had at least actually gone to school), but for some chance of luck (or maybe the fact that nobody was interested) he was hired!

And it was great fun! Getting paid to geek talk about videogames with other people was the dream (even though, he was a bit useless regarding videogames released in the last 5 years, but no one is perfect, right?). Shelving could be a bit boring and helping customers could get difficult due to his social anxiety, but overall it was okay. His job was specially alright when a certain freckled blond son of Apollo visited, always browsing (spending a lot of time in the Mythomagic section!) but more often than not leaving empty handed. He was really cute. And he had once entered wearing a ‘Gaymer’ t-shirt! And he would sometimes smile, and on occasion wink, at Nico! And spend much more time than necessary at the register, asking him about his day (which wasn’t really that interesting to be honest)…

So, who knows, maybe this job would get him a boyfriend on top of pocket money (which had become such a excuse at this point, if it hadn’t always been one)… A boy could dream…

And, Gods, did Nico dream.

Dear pjo fandom

I just read the sun and the stars and i was so happy to come here and see all the little cute fan arts and what i find is a bunch of adults complaining about a child books series istg this fandom is one of the most toxic ones out there.

Now i could tell you that if you want to consume a product whatever it is movies,books,tv shows ecc that's explicitly for kids/preteens you have to approch it with the right mentality which is letting your inner child enjoy the product if you're 20+ something, cause of course the adult you won't feel the same wonder, and sure kids products don't have to be bad or bland and there are other things out there aimed at kids that are better than tsats BUT it's not a bad book, mark oshiro did such a good job at portraying healing and trauma, they also did an amazing job at presenting to middle schoolers the idea of romantic relationships being not all roses and flowers and unicorns, human relationships are hard no matter the kind, it's something difficult to accept and to deal with especially when every single fairy tale you read as a kid teaches you that there is a happily ever after, that after adversities everything gets solved and goes fine, when you grow up you learn that nothing is further from the truth than that, i could also tell you that of course the concept is extremely simplified but again it's a book for kids/preteens, i could tell you to not go for something you know it's not targeted to you if you want approch it in a cynical way, i could give you as example that reading tsats and wanting maturity out of it is like going to watch a disney animation movie and then complaining they sing too much. Cause now you have to tell me when rick riordan has been mature or not cringe in the whole entirity of the pjo saga? He literally wrote a dam joke after killing off a 12 years old, added a judo flip to a romantic reunion of two characters that haven't seen each others for almost a year, wrote a romantic declaration from a 20 years old something to a 16 years old girl, wrote about gods falling for the stupidiest shit said by teenagers demigods, made percy at 12 years old won a fight against the fucking god of war and i could go on so if that has been ok with you till now what is even the point? The truth is y'all are not complaining cause the book feels immature/cringe/ooc ecc y'all are complaining cause you hate will and you hate him cause you ship nico with percy,jason,leo or who knows who and that's ok you don't have to like will or solangelo you can ship whatever you want (i'm an "anomaly" in this fandom i never shipped percabeth, i started prefering percy and rachel and i ended up loving the idea of annabeth and piper, still i can be objective enough to read a whole saga where percy and annabeth are the main couple and not shit on it just cause i don't ship them together) of course you can complain about this book but at least make an effort and think of valid reasons. The real problem is why did you decide to buy and read a book that focuses as one of the main plots on a relationship you hate so much, if you can't stand them as a couple why did you read it in the first place? This book is not perfect it lacks things and there are topics that needed to be handled better sure, but it's not bad,ooc or cringe, cheesy maybe but not the kind of cringe you are trying to make it pass. The real deal here is you don't really care about any of those things you just hate the ship the book revolves around and again that's fine but just be honest it's way more respectful than taking away the work af a queer author that tried to settle more the idea of a queer couple being normal and equal to a straight one to a group of young people who are living in a society that still is against queer people.

Percy Jackson trailer just dropped. I am barely functioning. Was close to tears at the minotaur scene. Sally Jackson... But Camp Half-Blood! And Chiron! And Grover and Annabeth! He's going to blow up his Maths teacher. I need December to come so bad.

But anyway, I wanted to make Chalice of the Gods hopes/predictions before next week, and luckily, I had a draft ready so I don't have to worry about forming a complete, coherent thought right now!

The Hopes:

I really need Percy and Annabeth to talk about what happened in Tartarus, specifically what happened with Percy suffocating Akhlys. I know Percy talked to Jason and Annabeh talked to Piper, but we haven't seen them talk to each other and that is so important. Annabeth admitted to being scared of Percy and that isn't something that just goes away. They have time to breathe now, so they also have time to talk.

While we're at it, Grover should probably have a talk with Percy as well. The empathy link is still there so throughout the whole of Heroes of Olympus, Grover would've been feeling Percy's confusion at where he is and who he is, his sudden fear of drowning, his anxiety at Annabeth leaving for her quest, his pure, unfiltered rage at Akhlys. Even though he didn't physically go through it, you can imagine that at times it was debilitating for Grover.

Percy finding out/caring for his mum while she's pregnant. It would be nice if there was some cute moments like Percy making her food or bringing her pillows whenever she needs it. I can imagine a scene before the quest begins or after it's ended where the three are just talking in the living room with Sally and Paul, blue cookies on the table and talking to the baby with mixed sentiments of, "I can't wait to meet you," and "I hope you know what you're getting yourself into."

Some scenes of Percy and Annabeth preparing for college. I can see them getting gifts for each other for their dorms. Maybe Percy takes Annabeth book shopping. Maybe Annabeth buys Percy anything blue she can get her hands on. Maybe it's super-specific stuff they had to commission from Rachel or Tyson because their life is just that wild. Grover would definitely help them pack and just eat any of the rubbish scattered around Percy's room and admire Calypso's moonlace.

Callbacks to the first book would be great, or even any of the rest of the series, especially considering what the first line is (not going to say it in case of spoilers). Imagine if they pass a pet shop and Annabeth's like, "You could've been in there," and points at the hamster cages. Imagine the trio just chatting, talking about relationships, and they ask Grover, "So if you guys get married, is she wearing the dress or are you?" and they all agree he'd be an amazing bride. Imagine if they ended up back at Hoover Dam and Percy has a moment because the last time he was there, Annabeth wasn't there. Annabeth was held captive, holding up the sky. The last time they were there, Zoey was still alive.

A signature Rick Riordan cliffhanger because that means there will be more!

I don't expect all of these to happen. I don't know how unrealistic all this is, and I'm pretty sure a few of these don't really fit into the timeline, but honestly I've just been having too much fun thinking of things that could happen to care.
