the thing about davy jones is that he’s a controlling needy person and he thought he could be a speshul sailor boy and tame the untamable sea (literally) and now that he has ruined her life because he cut calypso off from him and the sea, he gets the worst of both worlds. he doesn’t get to be with her in a mortal way and he doesn’t even get to be with a goddess either. and she loves him still for god knows what reason (i suspect stockholm syndrome. jk but maybe not jk lol)

modern au where Sparbossa are married and Barbossa sets Jack up to die to a) get the Pearl (a dinky ship at the docks or smth else u decide) and b) cash in on that massive life insurance policy on Jack’s head that’s there for whatever reason

flash forward a decade and Barbossa is sipping his fruity wine and enjoying the riches and taking the Pearl for a spin before he gets this text from an unknown number;
