30. Don’t Recall – KARD

I’m upset with myself that last year I didn’t put Oh NaNa in my best of 2016 list because, reader, it was: it ended up as my second most played song of 2017. I didn’t listen to the follow-up Don’t Recall quite as much, but it was the song that cemented my love for KARD’s hip-hop/dancehall/pop jumble. Whoever is selecting their songs has such a flair for dance songs with a melancholy vibe, and Don’t Recall is unparalleled so far. It’s still too rare to get proper idol groups that are mixed gender, and it’s almost impossible for them to succeed. I’m so pleased that international success has been enough to keep KARD alive, even though their numbers are still abysmal at home.   29. Heaven and Earth – Laboum

I went through a phase in which I found Laboum adorable, and then for some reason I stopped liking them as much (the reason is that ZN gets on my nerves, I’m sorry, I know). I still listened to their album Miss This Kiss for the nostalgia effect – and because lead single Hwi Hwi is damn good – and I just fell in love with 천지차이. As far as I can tell, it was never performed live, or at least not in venues where it was filmed. I hope that this kind of song keeps being given to them, and that eventually it becomes their lead single. They deserve to take a break from the cuteness. Other songs of note: Hwi Hwi

   28. Tomorrow, Today – JJ Project

I realise that I already said it when JJ Project made their comeback a few months ago, but Bounce is a modern classic in the trashiest way possible. The styling and sound that Jinyoung and JB went for in 2017 are completely different from their origins, but just as great. Tomorrow, Today is what I love about GOT7’s Fly with a dash of my favourite JYP group, DAY6. They get to show off the vocal skills they developed since we last saw them as a duo and, most of all, their range of wistful looks. Also, I love that for once they didn’t have to sing about love and how right a girl is, but rather about having to face tough decisions as they grow up.   27. Palette – IU ft. G-Dragon

I don’t know why, I’ve never been a huge fan of IU until I watched Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo and found a sudden connection with her that I had never felt before. Her most recent album has helped bringing together my love for actress IU with singer IU. In an industry where being honest and clever is nobody’s priority, she manages to sound real and in control of what she does without abandoning her pop roots. I’m not sure many artists would manage to make an introspective song sound so pleasant and calm. Live:  Inkigayo 23/04 – Music Bank 28/04 Other songs of note: Can’t Love You Anymore ft. Oh Hyuk

  26. Archangels Of The Sephiroth – Stellar

If there had to be a swan song for Stellar, I’m glad it was Archangels Of The Sephiroth. With two members having already left and the other two on the way out, this was 100% the last single they put out with the formation we knew and loved, and we can’t even blame them for leaving. It’s a fact that this doesn’t have anything to do with their previous concepts, but I love the pseudo-satanic, pseudo-mystical vibe and I would have loved for them to keep going on this path. Archangels Of The Sephiroth gets more interesting with every listen, and the video is creepier with each view (bathtub of blood anyone?). As the song says, we really did love them till the end.   25. Signal – Twice

Signal is by far the best Twice song ever – it’s interesting, kind of weird, and not necessarily super cute. Obviously the majority of the public hated it, and back to Likey we went. I love the bassline pushed right at the front, the dissonant harmonies, the fact that some of the mute members finally got to sing. Of everything they’ve released in 2017 (four comebacks is a lot for anyone) this is the only choice that doesn’t feel safe and completely within their sexy baby wheelhouse. They even get to have a proper storyline in the video, which is a rarity. Live:  Show Music Core 03/06 – Inkigayo 21/05 Other songs of note: Knock Knock – 24/7

  24. Wake Me Up – Taeyang

It’s kind of sad to think that this could be the last Taeyang single for years and years. At least it’s a ballad, so we will be able to all cry together when we listen to it after he’s enlisted.This album felt properly his – something that he created and composed, rather than something that was given to him to perform. Not that he’s ever lacked emotion, but Wake Me Up has a depth that is only second to Eyes Nose Lips. Live:  Inkigayo 20/08 – Fantastic Duo 03/09 Other songs of note: White Night – So Good

  23. Move – Taemin

This is possibly (definitely) the sexiest song of 2017. Taemin has such an eye for taking trends from the West and making them current for Korean audiences, as well as constantly changing his image while staying true to himself. I can’t get enough of the elegant electropop of Move, with the bass and the voice parts creating one of the sexiest musical combinations of 2017. Taemin carries a song that could have been much less interesting in the hands of an artist with less expressiveness. I don’t know if it’s the thought of the choreography, but this song always makes me blush a little. Live: Seoul Fashion Week – M Countdown 19/10 Other songs of note: – Rise – Day and Night

  22. Untitled 2014 – G-Dragon

If a ballad from Taeyang was expected, it certainly wasn’t from G-Dragon. I’m not sure how much truth there is the gimmick of titling the album with his real name and saying that he was finally stepping away from his persona, but Untitled 2014 feels painfully raw and real. Whatever happens from now on – after all the members of Bigbang enlist and eventually return to music – this album and this song will be a milestone in his career, and the perfect summary of what he’s done in the past eleven years.   21. Change Up – Seventeen

You could take any random combination of Seventeen members and they would be able to put up an incredible show for you. This has been proven over and over by them, but I think that the Change Up subunit – the leaders of the standard subunits – has proven this definitively. I wouldn’t have thought of this song for them in a million years, yet they perform it convincingly and make it the catchiest Seventeen song of this year.   20. Rollin’ – Brave Girls

Every time I say “tropical house”, I add “drink!”. It has been so omnipresent in k-pop this year that it has been impossible to avoid. I skipped over Rollin’ the first few times I stumbled upon it because there were enough marimbas in my life, but I gave into the hype and this ended up being one of the most played songs of my year. As of last year, Brave Girls have an entirely new line-up – and yes, they did deserve a new name – and I hope that they will be the new bastion of sexy concepts now that there is no real mid-point between Laysha and cute concepts.  Live: M Countdown 03/09 – Show Champion Ep. 219

19. Never – Produce 101/Wanna One

This technically doesn’t count as a Wanna One song, but I’m pretty sure that if there is a song that symbolizes Produce 101 and the rise of the nation’s boy group, it’s Never . Written by Hui of Pentagon, another of my favourite groups, this song starts quietly, and slowly adds more elements until it gets to one of the best chorus drops of 2017. It made me wish that they had kept it for the final group instead of using it during the programme, and I wasn’t surprised at all when it was re-recorded by the final formation.   18. Singing In The Rain – Jinsoul (LOONA)

Looking at the sheer amount of material that pre-debut group Loona have released this year gives me palpitations. A million members and subunits filled each month of 2017, and almost all the releases have been excellent – overall, they probably were the best group of the year. Jinsoul’s Singing In The Rain was my favourite song released – not by far, though, seeing the overall quality. I was especially impressed with how they managed to have Jinsoul sing and rap seamlessly, and how the song manages to be sexy without being inappropriate for a very young girl. And, of course, it’s a banger. Other songs of note: Loona released dozens of songs this year, so this is just a tiny selection of my favourites.   17. Body Talk – Red Velvet

To me, this is one of the best songs by Red Velvet ever. Only a company like SM could waste it and have it  relegated to the b-sides of their mini albums; it’s a fantastic mid-tempo track that showcases the best vocal skills of the group, and allows them to sound about fifteen years older than title track Rookie. At least, in the arc of their three thousand 2017 comebacks, they managed to go from the childish image that they had patented in 2016 to the sultrier “velvet” image they have abandoned ages ago, even if it’s still paired with a “red” song.   16. Circle’s Dream – Subin (Dalshabet)

Dalshabet haven’t had the best luck in their career. Subin is yet another amazing soloist that was in a group when she released a song, and has now left the label and disbanded her girl group. Seeing her solo by itself, it’s actually had to imagine her as part of bubbly Dalshabet: she is sensual, allusive, and her music is weird and enthralling. I love her voice and I love the ideas she has for herself – ideas that are far removed from traditional k-pop. The elements of this song are few, but she manages to create such a clever repetitive, circular structure with them, echoing the themes of the lyrics and capturing the listener. Subin is technically a solo artist now, so I am hoping we will get to hear much more of this.

  15. Yes No Maybe – Suzy

What makes me mad about Yes No Maybe is that nobody heard it. I can’t imagine how well it would have done if the now officially defunct Miss A would have released it, instead of Suzy now that her popularity is entirely tied to her acting and advertising career. It’s also true that she has always been my favourite Miss A, so it was delightful to see her come out with a debut album that does something interesting and doesn’t package her as the sexy ingenue character that she’s had since the beginning of time. Yes No Maybe strikes the balance between being  Latin, dancey song and a more introspective pop piece. Unlike half of her former group, Suzy has signed a new contract with JYP. Here’s hoping she gets to do more excellent, slightly left-field pop music. Live: &Live

  14. A Girl Like Me – Gugudan

It is still surprising that I don’t find the awkward beeping samples in the song insufferable, but the truth is that I love the weirdness and how it’s amplified by the singing parts. I already knew in February that this would be one of my favourite concepts of the year, and it is: there aren’t enough songs about how great the girls are, as opposed to their love interest. It’s not female empowerment, but I have the feeling we can’t get much closer. I love it even more considering how terrible their following comeback was .   13. Island – Winner

It goes without saying that Winner is my favourite group in current k-pop, and they can hardly do any wrong in my eyes. However, this entire year could have been a disaster: they had to come back from losing a member who was the main singer and composer for the group. Island has the tropical (drink!) elements of their 2017 hit Really Really, but it’s a bit less conventional, and the video is delightful and incredibly romantic.   12. As If It’s Your Last – BLACKPINK

While I find most complaints against YG idiotic, it is absolutely true that having Blackpink release one single song in an entire year is ridiculous. The only good thing is that the song was brilliant, and I’m still not bored of it after having seen it performed at least fifty times. When it came out I found it really frankensteiny, but at this point the structure seems perfectly reasonable and linear to me (Stockholm syndrome at its best).   11. Cactus – A.C.E

Every year I end up falling in love with one rookie group that will probably not see their third birthday, and in 2017 it was the turn of kings of thighs A.C.E., who singlehandedly resurrected early 90’s eurodance with their debut single Cactus . It was the one of a kind title of their song that attracted me, the weirdness of the thigh dance that drew me in, and everything else that made me stay. They are great singers, charismatic performers and can stand the most high-intensity dance of 2017 without blinking. I am so attached to A.C.E (and Dreamcatcher, full disclosure) that I broke my promise to never watch a survival show again and I am following Mixnine for them.   10. Dinosaur – AKMU

What I love about AKMU is that when they try different genres, they always put so much of them into the song: nobody else could sing Dinosaur apart from them. It’s so simple, yet so full of detail; it’s true that it has EDM elements, but it’s not even remotely a club song. I’m still shocked every time I hear Suhyun hit those dolphin-high notes. The Stranger-Things-y video is still one of the most beautiful releases of  this year. Live: Dingo Music Other songs of note: My Darling – Reality

  9. Beautiful – Monsta X

This is yet another song of a overcrowded production that I am totally in love with. The bleeps and bloops leave plenty of space for the members to show their skill – especially Kihyun, who could sing literally anything to me at this point. Just like All In , Beautiful feels like the refined version of the chaotic, loud concepts Monsta X began with. There are raps and aggressive parts, but they are striving for a higher concept than “street urchins” now, and it’s reflected in their music.   8. Runaway – Pentagon

Pentagon have already done a lot for being a group that has debuted just over a year ago. Of all these releases, Runaway is my favourite without any doubt: for me it strikes the right balance between the trendy elements that Hui has been carrying over from his Produce 101 successes, and the rougher concepts that Pentagon had to begin with. I find it hooky without being too in your face, and moody without being full-on tragic.   7. Boy – EXID

EXID are my everything. I feel bad for choosing Boy as my favourite song they’ve produced this year, when Night Rather Than Day was such a classy, unusual choice for them and Boy is just another dance song. Unfortunately, it’s just monstrously catchy, and my love for it eclipses (get it?) everything else they’ve released.   6. Chase Me – Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher are my rookies of the year. After scrapping the cute concept and adding a couple of members, they spent twelve months delivering a series of metal-inspired, horror-themed comebacks that managed to showcase the members’ talents.  While all their singles are amazing, there is something special about Chase Me and its chorus, mixing hammering instrumentals and creepy falsettos. There is no doubt that the only way from here is up, and there is nothing gives me as much joy as a girl group with a non-cute concept being (relatively) successful. Much bigger groups and bigger companies have refrained from embarking on international tours but Dreamcatcher have left survival show Mixnine to go on one.   5. Love & Affection – Seohyun

Seohyun’s solo came and went almost unnoticed at the beginning of this year: it was smothered by Taeyeon’s releases and the inevitable run-up to SNSD’s tenth anniversary. It really saddens me to no end that, now that Seohyun has left SM Entertainment, she seems to be going for an acting career, when she is such an amazing vocalist with such unique colours. With even her lead single receiving little attention, there was no hope for her b-sides. But Love & Affection is a masterpiece, with a booming chorus and a surprise ending, and what I hope to see if she ever decides to make more music under her new label.

  4. I Would – DAY6

There is only one criticism that I have for JYP and DAY6: there must be something else they want to do that’s not singing about love and heartbreak in pretty conventional ways. For the rest, there are only good things to say about the 25 songs they put out this year. It was hard to pick just one song to put in the list, and to be honest there are two or three other candidates I feel kind of guilty for cutting out.   3. Good Thing – NCT 127

Despite the complete chaos that surrounds NCT at all times, I keep loving most of their releases (except Cherry Bomb , which I hated): they were my #1 and #3 most played song on Spotify with Good Thing and Limitless respectively. I love Good Thing in itself, but I also wish that NCT didn’t keep circling around that pseudo hip-hop, trappy, appropriative concept they’ve been given a million times and they did something brighter, poppier, that sets them apart from the three hundred hip-hop concepts that are going around without slipping into Astro territory.   2. Tendae – Bobby

In an excruciatingly adorable interview for MTV Japan, Bobby says that with his debut album he wanted to show that he can do more than rap, and reveal his romantic side. I had already become obsessed with Bobby’s sing-rapping a long time ago, so Love And Fall gave be nothing but joy. His lyrics show that he’s capable of putting complex emotions in words, and most of all he is also completely able to translate that in his singing. 텐데 is sweet, heartbreaking, sexy. Bobby is one of the best performers of his generation, if not the best. Other songs of note:  Runaway – In Love

  1. Gashina – Sunmi

If there is one thing that Sunmi has taught us this year, it’s that there is a life after girl group disbandments. She came back singing about heartbreak and vengeance with dark humour and double entendres, a super-sexy choreography and a vibe that couldn’t be more far from the current sugary girl group trends. Everything about Gashina is iconic, from the song itself to the lyrics to the costumes to the choreography. Sunmi was without any doubt the queen of 2017. i just got done watching the first episode of the unit and im p disappointed that they literally cut so much out? they straight up compiled laboum, dalshabet, hyeyeon, and brave girls together lmao brave girls didnt even get to talk and they straight up did not show any bit of hyeyeon’s perf. i was also p sad they didn’t show yoonjo either? they showed her introduce herself but that was it but im p sure she made it since i think i saw her in the shine perf. 

anyways, they cut so many great acts and spent so much time on the two non idols who went right after big star. 

now let’s talk about this placement specifically. 

automatically i knew everyone was going to love feeldog because he’s simply amazing and we all know this. aside from his solo dance and a snip it of sunghak dancing, the only other solo we really got to see was raehwan’s singing. he literally made both hyunas cry. and he also cried expressing that he thought about giving up, but where was he going to go? all he wants to do is sing. he’s so desperate to sing and find success in it, there isn’t anything else he wants but that. can you imagine? he’s thought about giving up on the one thing he wants most, but he didn’t because-- surprise, surprise, it’s the one thing he wants most. i literally teared up because yeah, this dude is obviously very sincere and that’s what the unit is all about, right? rebooting idols who didn’t get to find huge success or show their true potential. raehwan and big star are exactly what this show is supposed to be aimed at. as so many others are too, like the girls i mentioned earlier.

however those girls got their performances and screen time cut in favor of showing off an actor and 13yr old trainee who both went right after the tearful speech that raehwan just gave. 

what the hell is there to reboot for them? 

the actor, lee jungha, straight up admitted that he ran away from being an idol when it got too hard during his training, because he “lacked the talent” for it. now, this is completely different from raehwan who admitted over and over that singing was all that he wanted, so much that when times got rough, he stuck it out. already from the goddamn start it’s been revealed that jungha does not even have the resolve for this. the unit is literally his easy access to fame. he’s charming, so i’m sure he’ll win over lots of people and unfairly rise in rank despite being a horrible dancer and singer, seriously this kid was bad. but he passed and the worst part is that yeah, it was his charm that won over all the mentors but two. disappointingly enough was that rain was one of the people who voted for him, when the intro to the show is literally rain saying he wants to fairly evaluate the idols who could not reach success and reboot them. 

the 13yr old trainee was actually v impressive, i liked her a lot, but again, what is there to reboot with her? tbh they should have sent her to be on pd101 instead of lee younseo. she was both a really good dancer and singer, but the problem lies with her being an extremely young trainee that hasn’t debuted or become desperate for the chance of rebooting.

i’m really pressed that they cut a lot of actual idols who are the EXACT type of people for this show in favor of new faces or the more controversial ones. 

a lot of people kept saying “don’t be upset that your faves are going on the show, it’s going to save them just like pd101 did with nu’est”

no, the first episode is already an entire mess. it’s already just focusing on who it wants to and not actually displaying the idols who are struggling and need this. i have higher hopes for the following episodes though, i pray the unit does what it’s supposed to and tbh i’m still extremely nervous because so far i have literally only seen donghyun out of all the boyfriend members and im so : ) 

side note, i was also p upset former ukiss member aj didn’t make the cut : / he’s very talented in my opinion, but he does not...make...good...choices...

[Interview] 160212 Dalshabet Interview for Top Star News

[TopStarNews = Reporter Park HyeMi] Dalshabet, who released their 9th mini album ‘Naturalness’ on January 5th, met with TopStarNews reporters at KBS’ Music Bank waiting room to talk on Friday, February 12th.

They shared ‘We don't feel a vacancy’ after the two members leave and being with only four members, Dalshabet is one step closer to the public’s recognition and to find the right color for them.

Q. I think this comeback’s activities are especially good. Ayoung: It's a big change for us and it's also our 5th anniversary. I feel like we're starting again after 5 years. It was our first album with four members so of course we were very worried. Luckily, many of our fans are happy with our new appearance and don't feel like we have two empty spots.

Serri: There was a lot of tension during the showcase and I was worried about it because it was the first official time you've seen us as four. This was our first album with four members and we're very pleased with each other and hope everyone is antecipating all of our activities.

Q. The album concept have changed and it seems to be successful. Woohee: It seems to be successful. Rather than think about success, I'm just pleased that even with the member change, I've shown a good image to fans.

Subin: The name album is ‘Naturalness’. We wanted to describe ourselves and the change in one word, that's why this is the name album, we wanted everyone to see our changed aspect, and show our natural image. I'm just proud that we're doing fine.

Serri: We seem to be able to finish activity by enjoying the activities with a supportive atmosphere.

Q. This album is composed with a intro, the title song and four solo songs. Is there a reason behind this choice? Serri: Since we wanted to show our changed side, it was an album that we also wanted to show our individual charms and characteristics, it was good that we could have a solo song and that has a special meaning to fans.

Q. I wonder if you want to work on your own albums. Subin: I didn't start the idea of "I want to do activities with my songs too". I produced for the first time our album 'JOKER' but with the help of my unnies. We did everything together and they helped me to finish well, so if I get a chance again, I would like to write a good song alone and give to my unnies so they can give me a careful review.

Q. What was the hardest thing while working on this album? Ayoung: We felt a lot of responsibility and burden for us because of the member changes. It is true that we were stressed and had to work to fill the space of two members, we had to be careful because of the fans. I was anxious, half excited. The biggest difficult was the burden we felt because we needed to be more responsible since we needed to replace two members.

Woohee: It was hard to record the solo song. I had to sing the song alone, work on that alone and record alone, from the beginning to the end I was nervous to finish the recording. I was trying to look good outside but mentally I was feeling a lot of pressure.

Serri: Originally I was a vocalist so I was really worried about my rap. I didn't want to do it, but I also wanted to. (However) Thanks to other people's help I finish it and now I'm interested in rap. I even did the rap part from 'JOKER' on a special stage today, it was fun. It was a great learning and a good opportunity for me challenge myself.

Q. (Subin) Do you have any plans to produce an entire album again Subin: Lately, all the members are involved in the prodution of new albums. All of the members have participated in the lyrics and we have a desire for music. I want to make an album that can show more of a personal side.

Q. Do you want to try something on your music work? Ayoung: I'm not sure about the music style I want to do so I don’t know.

Woohee: I wanted to have the experience of writing a song. But I didn't express myself the way I wanted to so I felt sorry for the results. Anyway, I want to see a positive reaction coming from people when they read a song I wrote, so I have the desire to make more songs. I think it's also cool when people sympathize with the story I wrote.

Q. Where do you get inspiration when you create a song? Subin: I'm inspired by my daily life. There are times of the day you feel enthusiasm and that's when I'm inspired. If I pass by some unnie's pretty pink hair, I'm inspired by the theme 'pink hair'. 

Ayoung: Subin have a good imagination. She doesn't draw a picture as it is, but she draw the picture in an abstract way. Her imagination is abundant. 

Q. Already 9 mini albums. I want a full album. Ayoung: I want too. I think we're having a good time and it would be nice to make our full album with a lot of good songs. Anyway, I'm grateful to have one full album.

Woohee: I think talk about a full album is a bit greedy. 

Serri: After the full album, we have released many mini albums. There's a reason why we didn't release another full album, it's because we, Dalshabet and the representatives, want to work hard and show sincerely in the full album, and that's a hard thing to do.

Q. Will you release another album this year? Ayoung: It's hard to tell the exact date, but we have some things planned. We're planning to come back soon.

Q. Unfortunately, this is your last week of promotions. Ayoung: I feel like I'm a bit unsatisfied, I have a sense of incompleteness. We were the first to comeback in the month (January). But a lot of other good singers were also promoting and I feel like we didn't receive as many attention as expected. I'm sorry for fans. But I spend good times.

Q. The most important point of this activity. Ayoung: The changes.

Serri: It was a album that we could show our natural and individual charms and characteristics.

Woohee: In this album, we didn't expose our skin but we need to show a tight figure so I was very focused on that.

Ayoung: I was worried because I got a lot of responsabilities. Also, we have never worn overlapping clothes in music broadcasts. So we had to be careful.

Q. Without Jiyul and Kaeun, there was any moment that you felt an empty space? Ayoung: When we were on the stage standing with four members. We are a team that didn't want new members to be as six again, because they are replaceable. Of course there are times we couldn't do anything but think about Jiyul and Kaeun. The nostalgia for the members that left is absurd but there is no such thing as 'I want to be six again'.

Serri: Even not being six again, they came to see us on music broadcast and rehearsals.

Subin: I feel an empty space when I perform. We don't feel like we're lacking in stage but we don't have a lot of dancers so when we perform in the venues, I feel like there aren't enough people together to perform. I think there are a lot of differences between six and four.

Ayoung: Because we have been together for so long it's scary, but we are still in touch with Jiyul and Kaeun. 

Woohee: When we went to an event, the members choose their clothes but I let the stylists choose mine. That was the time I missed them the most. I thought 'This would fit Kaeun perfectly'.

Q. Achievements of this activity. Woohee: It was nice to be able to show good aspects with four members .

Ayoung: There were many individual reactions, I think as four, people could pay more attention on us individually. They said four fit us more.

Serri: It was very nice to see more positive articles cheering for us than bad articles. Q. When you were especially grateful to your fans during this activity? Serri: Every moment.

Ayoung: Before the showcase, I was very worried. After an article saying that we would now promote as four came out I was worried about what the fans would think, and I was scared enough to think that we would not have fans anymore. I was worried that fans could feel a sense of betrayal as soon as the article came out, and somehow, the fans expressed themselves very well during the showcase. We received a lot of "Unnie I really love you", "I don't feel a empty spoty, it's nice this way", "Stay together forever". I'm very grateful to fans for showing such good reactions and for giving us strength and courage throughout the entire showcase.

Woohee: I'm very grateful for my fans, especially when they care about my health. When I look a little tired they always tell me to don't work too hard and give me nutritious drinks, I always think "This is what being loved feels like".

Serri: I think the fans are really great. They give me strenght and even when the weather is bad they come to see us, they are really amazing. This is a job you can't do without love. Every moment I'm very grateful to them. 

Ayoung: They are like a shield. Many foreign fans including Japanese fans came to see our activities so I'm really grateful. There was a day that our fans were in a bigger number at a music broadcasting so that's a big memory to me. They are really like a shield.

Q. Concepts you want to try. Subin: Sweet. A youthful concept. All four members have various charms but if there's something that all members has, it's a beautiful smile. (I want to try) a song that you can smile while listening.

Ayoung: We did some powerful concepts like in 'B.B.B', 'JOKER' and 'Someone Like U'. And the old concepts are very different, like in 'Have, Don't Have', 'Supa Dupa Diva' and 'Bling Bling', I would like to try an old concept again.

Serri: Dalshabet means sweet sorbet. I want to show a sweet look and also a cool look, just like the name. But I want to show my sweetness the most since we're renewed as four people.

Q. Dalshabet have got a lot of comments. Serri: I read them all.

Ayoung: I don’t read them.

Serri: Because I'm a members who has some bad habits, I read the comments to see what's wrong so I can fix them, I also read them to get strenght. I think I am interested in bad comments because I want to deal with the evil. I read the comments in every article.

Ayoung: I don't deal with bad comments very well. I think I preffer to read individual message people send to be than the comments because they are a lot of malicious ones. I had a lot of wounds while reading bad comments and now I'm fine not reading them.

Q. Any memorable comments? Woohee: I always like the comments I like. 

Ayoung: If bad comments come, the fans always protect us saying 'Please, only comment good things', 'Let's ignore them and think about flowers', 'I'm a fan so I'm sorry for them' in the articles. So, these comments are very touching since we see that fans get hurt just like we do. 

Woohee: When I feel good, I answer my fans with 'I love you'. I'm always happy to read good comments.

Serri: When there's a 'I love you' comment, they send me the screenshot to make me smile. That gives me happiness and makes me smile.

Subin: Everytime I look to articles before I go to bed I feel like I could do more to fans. Even though I always have the feeling that I am not enough, I love them so much. Their comment saying they are proud of us always makes me feel like I have to do my best. And I will do my best for sure.

Q. You have been on AfreecaTV’s BJ a while ago. Serri: It was fun. I thought I couldn't do BJ (Broadcast Jockey). I've never played a broadcast like this personally before, but it was a very interesting time for me because I could learn about this kind of broadcast and also communicate with people directly. We also monitored each other. 

Q. Memorable moments of being a singer. Subin: I love to sing and dance so when I go to events and performances I feel very good, but I still don't feel like it’s real.

Ayoung: It's still amazing to think about that. We can find our name so easy on the internet. 

Subin: When I go home before sleeping or eating I always think "I'm a celebrity. It's amazing. I'm really a celebrity."

Ayoung: It's funny to be a celebrity. It's amazing when people know who we are. We went to a country on holidays and many people didn't rest just to see us and get our autographs. When you're at streets, there's always someone looking at you.

Woohee: I feel good to be a singer when my family ask me to sign something for them. I feel very proud of myself.

Serri: My relatives always feel sorry when they ask me to sign something for their friends. I feel sorry because they feel like that and I want to do everything I can for them.

Subin: Being a singer is the joy of the family.

Ayoung: (Being a singer) it's not really a special job, it's only special because people make it be special/important. I think the image is really importante. It's a pity that a celebrity can lose everything they get if they do one thing wrong. We can practice hard but if we make a mistake for a moment, we lose it all. It's a special job because you have to be really careful of your behave.

Woohee: It's a job I really love so I do my best while singing.

Subin: I think I have a unique personality so sometimes I have to censor myself and be careful of what I say, but now I'm used to it thanks to other people's help. My unnie, Ayoung, helps me a lot. She is the member with the best personality for an idol.

Ayoung: I'm careful because I'm afraid to be judged. I try to see things like other people see. I think "If I do this, it might be controversial so I will be careful". Rumors on streets are always coming, but I tend to ignore them. So I think that's the part we have to put more efforts and think before we do something.

Serri: Thankfully we know how to behave now. I always do my best to hear "Dalshabet came to this event and it was great". 

Ayoung:  I have a desire to always to my best but I also want to have fun in everything I do. I try and work hard even tho I'm an anxious and lazy person.

Q. The biggest goal to Dalshabet? Subin: 1st place.

Ayoung: Rather than winning the 1st place, I want to be active for a long time and be able to show our true colors during the whole time. But or course, I want to be the 1st. I don't think it's really that important (to be the first) but I want it anyway. I hope people will help us to achieve that.

Q. Future activities plans. Serri: This week is our last stage. We finished our activities this week and we've been working hard in Korea, but we plan to visit overseas and see overseas fans and show them performances. I plan to perform overseas and we're going to look for a fresh and lively album this year.

Q. The new song 'JOKER’ was judged unfit for broadcast on KBS. Subin: I didn't even imagined it would be 'unfit for broadcast'. In article comments people said we meant to say one thing but it wasn't that and that wasn't our intention. I though 'Joker' was the perfect word for the song because it could mean a person who's playing with another. Ayoung: Honestly, people thought we wanted to say a 'bad word'. It was all a misunderstanding caused by our pronunciation, but we didn't mean to do this. We're sorry for that.

Q. You're really a girl group once you have a reality show. Do you have any ideas what 'Dalshabet's show' would be like? Subin: I think the broadcast title could be 'Subin and the children', I guess. Ayoung: I don’t want to appear (on that show). Serri: Before the official name of Dalshabet's fanclub 'Darling', fans called themselves 'Dalgona'. Dalgona means 'Dalshabet go! Come with me!'. I think this could be a google tittle for the show? Woohee: I would want to be on a show to get rid of the 'cold image' some people have about me. Actually I'm not cold at all. Ayoung: You know, every reality show have a genre. But we just want to have a reality where we get up in the morning and show the schedule and our daily lives. 

Q. Tell details of how you wanted the show to be like. Serri: We used to have a online show called 'Shabet On Air'. But unfortunatelly the videos were too short. How about 40 minutes of broadcast at afternoon on weekends? Ayoung: If we had good ratings, they could even do a 'replay' of the episode on week days. So would always be on TV. Subin: Maybe we could have a ‘Four meals a day’*¹ show, how about that? A show that we only need to 'eat and sleep, cook, eat and sleep' (Laughs). Ayoung: I really wanted to have a reality show. The image of an idol is something really important. Actually, we would show a clear individual image of members that we haven't show yet. On what it comes to the nature of each member, I don't think people really understand how we are like - There are many misunderstandings about that.

Serri: First, when talking to the members on broadcasts, Kaeun says we’re consistently next to the other members making sure they're surviving, it's a "spice-like” existence. Q. Which misunderstanding about Dalshabet do you want to clear? Ayoung: We have a strong image on stage so people sometimes think we are 'hard' persons off-stage as well. In fact, I think it's a little unfair to think that about us since all members make efforts to always communicate and be polite with others. Woohee: 'Greeting others' is the most importante thing to Dalshabet. It doesn't matter if I go to a broadcasting station or a venue, I will always try to do my best. I always comunicate with fans to make stories together. Kaeun: There was a day when rained a lot and they installed a tent so the rain wouldn't make the stage wet. So, there was some distance from the audience and us. I went out of the tent and danced in the rain to get closer to the audience. We always try to get closer to fans.

Q. Word to the fans. Ayoung: No matter what I try to say, there's not enough words. Thank you so much. Woohee: Thank you for your steady support, all you do for me I think 'So beautiful'.
