Plavic Narnia
A new Plavac Mali for me and oh boy is this a bruiser! Deep clear crimson in the glass, a hint of garnet at the edge of the clear rim. A more concentrated affectation of fruit and spirit in the nose would be hard to find–but not flabbily concentrated or thickly macerated–no: this is pure fruit. Granted, running a bit towards candied cherry but nowhere approaching maraschino. More a thick elixir…

Roman Ruins & Bibich Winery
Our last morning in Split was spent sleeping in, packing bags, and thanking our AirBnB host for a lovely stay! We grabbed an Uber and headed off to the car rental where we were given a Volkswagen T-Cross for our journey.
John and Lynn had mentioned that there were Roman ancient ruins a few miles outside of
Split and we decided that we needed to add that to our itinerary. 15 minutes later, we were in the town of Salona. Salona was the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and where Diocletian was born. At one point, the city was home to 60,000 inhabitants. Unfortunately, as with most areas that have been conquered several times throughout history, the remnants are fairly limited and it doesn’t appear that they are being protected today. We did walk along the ancient walls where we saw the main complex where the Emperor, his family, trusted advisors, and slaves lived. From there, we followed the wall to an old basilica, along the way there was a ditch (for lack of a better word) where 16 sarcophagi were buried, and ultimately further down the wall to the amphitheater/ baby colosseum where gladiators provided entertainment and sacrifice themselves to the god Nemesis while fighting for their lives. There were several signs along the way that provided additional history and recreations of the various sites we were looking at. Like most of the Roman remains in the region, large portions had been destroyed, neglected or modified for different uses by the Christians and Venetians that would rule over the area later.

(Main Roman Complex)

(Amphitheater - the hole that you see covered up in the center is where they would move the dead gladiators and animals)

(really cool, still functional - Roman Bridge)
Apparently, the entire wall is about 5 kilometers long, but we didn’t have time to do it all. I had made reservations for Bibich Winery that I absolutely did not want to miss. We first heard about Bibich Winery after watching one of Anthony Bordain’s Parts Unknown. When he got there he was under the impression that he would just be drinking wine because they don’t really have a kitchen. However, the owner's wife started whipping up food for them to eat along with copious amounts of wine. It all looked fabulous and Bordain could not stop gushing about how amazing everything was. They now serve a very limited menu (or did they always serve a limited menu and just didn’t advertise \0/). When I booked our tickets and started planning our trip, I knew we had to go out of our way to visit.

One of the things I read about Bibich is that they only operate off of reservations. So I emailed about a month out from our trip to finalize a time. I got a response a few days later saying that they may be closed for the season by then, but to email them again 10 days out. My hopes were a bit crushed. I am sure Jimmy heard me bemoan at least 10 times about it! However, when I pinged them a week before our trip, they said that we were in luck and they would see us then! We arrived at a picturesque chalet with white walls and light green shutters. As we walked in, we were greeted by the most lovely waitress. She suggested that we sit outside to soak up the last few days of sun!

Once seated, she asked if we would like to start off with some sparkling wine - again, the answer is always yes! We got one Brut Rose and one white Brut. She was back in a flash with our wine and walked us through what grapes they were made of and how the menu works. We took our time enjoying our perfectly dry bubbles. Our waitress was back and we decided on octopus on potato/truffle cream and steak tartare to start. Entrees woulld consist of veal on a potato cream and skradin ravioli. We also asked for a nice pairing for our dishes for the whole experience. We left wine pairings in the capable hands of our server who seemed very happy with the chance to show us her favorite pairings.
Let’s get one thing out of the way, you’re going to hear us talk about truffles a lot. They’re local and relatively abundant in Croatia and the chefs are willing to take full advantage of that. If you’re not a fan of truffles, Croatian cuisine may pose some challenges for you, but luckily we both adore these little flavor bombs. Our starters were delivered and I honestly think the Octopus was the best thing I have ever eaten. It cooked to perfection and sliced thin and sat on top of this truffle cream that had the consistency of an alfredo sauce, finished with some sliced truffles and green onions. Every bite was heavenly. She paired it nicely with a lovely white wine.

The steak tartare was also lovely. It was served with a sous vide egg yolk on top along with focaccia bread. This was served with a nice Merlot. Again the pairing was spot on and every bite was great.
We took a small break to let our food settle and try another glass of wine. I went with a locally traditional orange wine and Jimmy decided on a Shiraz. The orange wine was really interesting. It’s basically white grapes that have been treated through a red wine process. It’s flavoring was very similar to a cognac with touches of hazelnut. I don’t know that I would ever order it again, but I am glad I tried it. Jimmy absolutely loved his Shiraz!
Our entrees arrived and, again, the presentation was lovely and the aromas were to die for! The veal sat at the bottom of a bowl with a potato cream and curry sauce with powdered butter on top. I had never had powdered butter before, but it was a really interesting taste and texture on it’s own. Once I mixed my bowl together, you could see it melt and added a nice butter taste on the backend. The veal was very tender and tasted as if it had been slow cooked for days and the curry complimented it really nicely.

We still aren’t entirely sure what “skradin” is, but we suspect that the ravioli was filled with the same veal that my dish had or something similar. It was topped with a light cream sauce, adjacent to a vodka sauce with a distinctly unique flavor profile with less richness and more savory notes.. Topped with a saffron foam. It was fabulous. Every bite was exquisite and the flavors all played very nicely off of one another.
While I could have ordered the whole meal again 4 times over, we decided to end on chocolate cake. Although, I would say this was more torte/ mouse/ almost lava cake esque. It came with a bite of strawberry jam and vanilla cream. This was paired with a really big and bold Cab. Again, every bite was amazing and our server knew the exact right wine. She told us this was because she loved both the food and wine there and had tried every combination. She was somewhat of an amateur sommelier by trial and error. I couldn’t believe that they could continue to nail every single dish, but they did!

We ordered a few bottles of wine to bring back to the states and were presented the bill with two caramels. They looked like the caramels that you buy for Halloween wrapped in clear plastic wrappers. However, they were homemade with a bit of 24k gold and the “wrapper” was completely edible. You just popped the whole thing in your mouth and it all melted into this perfect little treat. Lots of caramel flavor, but not overly sticky like you would expect.

A Story of Split

I recently visited Split, Croatia. It's steeped in history. Wherever you turn, you’re mired in it. When you lean back in your chair in one of the numerous cafes of the old town, your shirt is brushing against 1700-year-old Roman wall. You sip your coffee and can almost hear in your mind the banter of legionnaires who leaned against this same wall with cups of wine during the break from duty. Houses of the downtown Split sprout like unruly hair from within the Roman limestone walls dating from 3rd century A.D. The city’s Cathedral of St. Domnius is consecrated in 7th century. The black granite sphinx guarding the front entrance to the cathedral is estimated to be from 15th century B.C. It is no wonder then that an aspiring scribe who finds himself walking the cobblestone streets of ancient times can’t stop imagination from running wildly back through centuries. Allow me to take you through the time to the very beginning of Split:
The year is 260. We are standing at the seashore in Aspàlathos, a Greek trading outpost in a charming bay on the central coast of Dalmatia. Several ships are tied to the shore, their sails folded like the wings of seagulls lining their masts and the shore. Slaves and sailors bustle over gangplanks, unloading ships and loading the others. At our back, the habitat is not much to look at, just a few rows of stone houses stretching along the shore. Most of them have dual function, as a warehouse and an abode. People who own them are from the Greek colony of Issa on the island of Vis. It’s about half a day sail south-southwest from here. Aspàlathos was built for one purpose: trade. It's trading with Dalmatae and other Illyrian tribes inhabiting the coast and hinterland of the Balkans, and with Romans from Salona, a metropolis of 60,000 souls, the Roman capital of the province of Dalmatia, and a cultural, political and commercial center of the region. It sits less than two-hour walk, or half an hour on a fast horse from Aspàlathos.
Next to us stands a lanky youth. His shoulders are wide and long muscles are taught from military training. His hair is cropped short, revealing high brow and sharp features. He wears a legionnaire's uniform, with leather-strap sandals instead of boots, common for legionnaires on those warm days of spring. He gazes into the distance, dreaming of faraway places, dreaming of seeing Rome one day. He's only 16, eager to leave family's nest. Next to him stands a man with stooped shoulders holding his hands behind his back. Man's fingers are smeared with ink, an unmistakable mark of a scribe. His squints at the youth.
"Diocles, my son," the man speaks, "go with fortune and may Jupiter keep you safe and return you to us. When you can, send us a word, so that we know you're alive and well." The man places a hand on Diocles's shoulder and the youth turns to meet his eyes.
"Remember," the man continues, "when you tire of marching and battles, your home will wait for you. You won't find a better place to rest than this." The man swipes an arm wide over the peaceful bay, the village and rolling green hills behind it.
Diocles smiles at the man. "I know, father. Thank you. It's time to go back to my legion."
They clasp forearms for a long moment, eyes locked on each other's. Then Diocles breaks the hold and walks with long, impatient strides north, across the hills, toward Salona and its garrison. His father returns to the house which is also his office. A scribe is an important part of every trade, the hand that writes contracts, permits, receipts and counts coins. Unfortunately, most of those coins are transferred from one client to another, from a buyer to a seller. A pay for scribe's services will not build him a palace. Diocles's father is doing alright, keeping his family well fed and clothed, with solid roof over their head, and a nice little farm where his wife tends to her cabbages which grow so well in this weather. He hoped to pass all this to Diocles one day, but the youth is eager to see the world, as young men often are. And what better way to do it, but with the mightiest army of the time: Roman legions.

Thirty-five years later, in 295 A.D., the youth who is now a man of over 50, returns to the bay of his youth. He observes the works started to build a large structure that will stretch from the seashore and climb the gentle slope of the hill. His name has changed, as is his appearance; he is stockier now, almost stout. His chestnut hair, streaked with grey throughout, recedes further from his brow, and his jaw and face are covered by neatly trimmed salt-and-pepper beard and moustache. A toga picta died Tyrian purple was draped over his shoulders, marking his stature. He is Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus, or Diocletian, the emperor of the Roman Empire. The structure whose foundations are just being built is going to be known as Diocletian's Palace.

In the year 305 A.D. Imperator Caesar Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus - Diocletian for short - took his stroll along the raised promenade atop the southern wall of his new home. Flowerbeds and trees lined the promenade on both sides to offer the emperor shade from the scorching Adriatic sun. A few marble benches were placed in regular intervals to allow a breathtaking view over the Brettia channel at the islands Brettia (today's Brač) and Solentium (today's Šolta). The emperor moved with shuffling steps, leaning on a cane for support. He was gaunt, his cheeks were hollowed, his shoulders stooped and boney. His skin was grey and a size too large for a man he became. Diocletian was fighting an ailment for over a year, a mysterious illness that almost killed him. It left him emaciated and weak. Next to Diocletian walked a stout man with powerful if somewhat stooped shoulders and strong arms clasped leisurely behind his back. He had open round face with eyes perpetually half-closed and eyebrows that climbed a touch too high, giving him a disbelieving, inquisitive expression. The lower half of his face was obscured in bushy dark hair which greyed at the sides, trimmed to follow the line of a strong jaw. His meaty lips were slightly downturned as if in disapproval. He was Maximian Herculius, co-emperor and Diocletian's partner in ruling the empire that grew too big for a single person to rule over. When Diocletian was confirmed as the emperor of Rome, he turned east to secure the eastern borders of the empire. He soon realized that the news from the Gaul and western borders of the empire travelled too long and his imperial decisions and decrees weren't reaching the west in time. To remedy it, Diocletian elevated his friend Maximian to Cesar, and soon after Augustus, making him equal in status, an emperor in the west, although Diocletian's seniority gave him the upper hand in decision-making. The two worked well together, Maximian's military brawn complemented Diocletian's political wisdom and the alliance born of friendship lasted throughout the twenty years of their rein.
Reaching the bench, Diocletian gingerly lowered himself on it and lifted his face toward the healing warmth of Dalmatian sun. The almost forgotten scent of the homeland wafted to his nostrils.
"I think, my friend, that I can get easily used to retirement," he smiled. "I already feel better."
"You'll miss the action when your strength returns," Maximian grunted in response. "Is your wife joining you?"
Diocletian shook his head. "Prisca is staying in Thessalonica with Galerius and Valeria. She may come when my strength returns."
Galerius was Diocletian son-in-law and successor, the Cesar in the East. His wife - Diocletian's daughter Valeria asked her mother Prisca to stay with them.
"Come Maximian," Diocletian reached his hands to his friend who helped him stand up - "let me show you the gardens. I'm going to grow cabbage here, the way my family did." They walked on to the colonnaded gardens accessible from the promenade.
Diocletian's failing health made the other emperors of the tetrarchy convince him and Maximian to retire. Weakened by disease, Diocletian accepted without much objection. Maximian resisted at first, but Diocletian talked him into leaving the post to younger men. Not suffering idleness well, Maximian sailed to visit his friend's retirement home.

It was an imposing fortress built at the place Diocletian called home so many decades earlier. An impressive walled compound had 16 watchtowers along east, west and north land-facing walls. The only unfortified wall was the southern wall, built on the edge of the sea. Its only opening was a small landing for the imperial galley and supply ships. The walls were built of large limestone blocks. An arcaded gallery bearing the tree-lined promenade stretched along the south wall. The imperial palace with private living quarters and audience hall covered the south half of the fortress. A Peristyle with a balcony from which the emperor greeted his subjects was the very center of the compound. The west side of the Peristyle housed the temple of Jupiter with gardens built for worshipers. The emperor attended the round temple of Jupiter on the east side of the square. The main streets traversing the fortress from east to west and north, met at the forum on the north edge of the Peristyle. The north half of the compound held twin military garrisons for the emperor's legions.

Upon Diocletian's death in 312 A.D., the palace was reclaimed as a property of Roman Republic, and was used as a refuge for exiled dignitaries and deposed rulers. In 7th century A.D. the Roman metropolis of Salona was sacked and destroyed by invading Slavs. Refugees fled from the ruins of the city to find refuge within Spalato's fortified walls. Once luxurious palace and garrison compound was taken down. Its stones were used to build many smaller houses. With time, the willy-nilly building continued outside the Roman walls, under different rulers. Venetians built another set of walls to protect the city from the Croatian-Hungarian and later Ottoman threat. Parts of the wall, as well as "Mletačka kula" (The Venetian Tower) have grown into the tissue of modern days Split.

We have traveled –figuratively and literally– across the globe to find some of the coolest wines you have never heard of. You will learn about –and taste– wines from obscure places and also exotic varieties. But that isn’t the most important element. It’s not enough that these are exotic wines. They also have to be damn good, too. If you are the type of person who wants to discover great new things, then this is a class for you. If you are happy just drinking buttery Chardonnay, not so much. Some of these wines will be from exotic places, some will be made with exotic grapes, and some combine both (and those are our favorites). No matter how much you think you know, this class will open your mind to how big and awesome the wine world really is. Our Exotic Wine Class is Super Fun This class will also give you great insight into the mind of a cellar master & sommelier. You’ll learn about wines and wine regions years before they become famous. As a case in point, the Wine School‘s very first Exotica class was held in 2002. One of the first wines of that night was an exotic grape from a hitherto-unknown wine region: Malbec from Argentina. Start your Next Boat Itinerary from Trogir!
Thanks to its central geographical position to the eastern Adriatic coast, Trogir is one of the most important Croatian tourist ports for those who decide to visit the Dalmatian coast, Montenegro, and beyond.
CONTACT US FOR YOUR CHARTER IN THE DALMATIAN COAST
In this article, we get to know this small but important port by imagining what could be a possible itinerary to take with your rental boat. Follow us!
Where is Trogir located?
Trogir is located in Dalmatia, a Croatia region overlooking the Adriatic Sea, and precisely in its central part, the one bordered by the rivers Krka to the north and Neretva to the south. Its proximity to another important Croatian city, Split, makes Trogir easily accessible by air. The Split International Airport is in fact only a few kilometers from its historic center.
What are the characteristics of this marina?
Moorings available in the port of Trogir are essentially two:
It is indeed possible to moor directly along the quay or even in front of the historic center, with the possibility of using electricity and running water. For those who opt for this choice, we recommend positioning in the eastern part as it is less busy by tourist traffic both people on land and boats in the water.
Alternatively, there is an ACI marina located on the other side of the canal. The marina has 180 places in the water for boats with a maximum draft of 18 meters. It offers a variety of services including technical assistance, a petrol station, various charter agencies, and a restaurant.
What to visit nearby?
Its strategic position has made Trogir a town with a long history. Both the Greeks first and the Romans then used the port as a center of trade, especially for the nearby production of high-quality white marble. The influence of the Venice Republic was very strong too and is still visible in the city’s architecture.
Today Trogir is a true medieval jewel of over 2,000 years enclosed within walls and stands on a small islet connected to the mainland. For the impressive number of Baroque and Renaissance buildings, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
Its historic center is very special, enclosed in a small island protected by a wall, connected by two bridges to the mainland and to another island to the south, the island of Čiovo. Its narrow streets overlook splendid Romanesque and Renaissance buildings, dating back to the period of the city’s greatest splendor.
VIEW ALL THE BOATS BASED IN TROGIR
The architectural jewel of Trogir is the wonderful San Lorenzo Cathedral, built between the 13th and 15th centuries by the Venetians. It is possible to climb the bell tower, which is 47 meters high, to enjoy a beautiful view of the city and the nearby islands.
The most popular beach around Trogir is Okrug Gornji on the island of Čiovo. This 2 km long pebble beach, named Copacabana, can be reached on foot thanks to the bridge that connects it to the old city. The closest beach to the center of Trogir is Pantun, a sand and pebble beach on the estuary of the Patan River.
What destinations to navigate in a possible 7-day boat itinerary?
The following are just some of the possible destinations that can be reached from Trogir by boat. To find out more about a possible itinerary of this type, do not hesitate to contact Your Boat Holiday, our reference charter agency.
Split
Split is the second-largest city in Croatia by population and an essential stop on a south-central Dalmatia holiday.
Among its attractions, it is certainly worth mentioning the splendid Diocletian’s Palace, a small town within the city built in precious white stone that creates a striking contrast with the color of the sea.
The elegant city center streets and the seafront offer visitors the opportunity to shop while enjoying the city liveliness.
Split is also home to a number of cultural activities including prestigious festivals, international movies and theater events, and traditional folk festivals.
If you are looking for nightlife, there is certainly no lack of it here, with a wide choice of pubs, clubs, and discos.
Brac
Brac is the largest central Dalmatian island with its beautiful Mediterranean landscape characterized by steep cliffs, pine forests, and deep waters.
A day to spend here can only be dedicated to the Zlatni Rat beach or the “golden horn”. It is a very famous beach made of sand and pebbles in the shape of an arrowhead located in the village of Bol. It is so famous to appear on most dalmatian postcards.
Hvar
Hvar is the most visited island in Croatia and is considered the most exclusive Croatian island. Among ancient villages immersed in the lavender scent, renowned locations such as Hvar city stand out, an elegant medieval town enclosed within fourteenth-century walls, surrounded by pine forests and overlooking a blue sea. Over time it has built a reputation as a “glamorous city”, where you can find luxurious hotels, elegant restaurants, and a long line of bars and clubs for young people looking for nightlife.
The Hvar city marina is one of the best anchorages in Croatia and maybe of the Adriatic Sea. It is also the best starting point to discover the hundreds of coves and bays that makeup Dalmatia.
Dubovica Probably the most famous beach on the island, a pebble beach with a crystal clear sea.
Korcula
Enchanting beaches, ancient villages, and fine white wines have made this small island, only 47 km long and only 5 km wide, an unmissable stop on a Dalmatia trip. Food and wine tourism are attracting an increasing number of travelers who love wines produced here.
One of the most famous tourist attractions is also the alleged birthplace of Marco Polo. There is no firm evidence that he was born here, but tradition points to Korcula as the birthplace of this famous explorer.
There are many beaches, bays, inlets, and coves that shore up the coast. Among the many we point out, Vela Przina, the Korcula most popular sandy beach frequented by tourists and locals. It is located near Lumbarda, in the southern part of the island.
Lastovo Archipelago Nature park
In the center of Dalmatia, there is one of Croatia’s most beautiful and wildest islands, Lastovo. Home to a military base, it remained closed to tourism until 1998, which is why today it retains its extraordinary beauty. The island is surrounded by 46 smaller islands that form the Lastovo Archipelago, a wonder for all sailing lovers but also for those looking for unspoiled nature.
The most famous bay is Pasadur, located on the western side, about 3 km north of the Ubli port. Here it is possible to visit two saltwater lakes that can be reached thanks to paths in the woods: Velo Lago and Malo Lago.
Mljet National Park
Mljet National Park is located in the northwestern part of the island Mljet and occupies most of it. The park has an area of 3000 hectares and the lakes area is accessible only on foot or by bicycle, or by kayak or canoe.
The island is perfect for those who love trekking. It is worth reaching the highest peaks, Veli Gradac and Mali Gradac, or exploring the caves in the hinterland. In the territory of the National Park, there are also numerous paths to be covered on foot or by bike.
Do not miss the visit to the Ulysses cave which is located south of the island, it is an oval karst cave whose bottom is covered with water. It can be reached both by sea and by crossing a staircase by land. It is so-called because it is supposed that here the goddess Calypso held Ulysses prisoner for 7 years before letting him go.
The island is also one of the best places to dive. Among the best spots are Goli Rat, Lenga, and Odisejeva špilja.
Tivat, Porto Montenegro
Our final destination is in Montenegro and it is located in Kotor Bay, an area protected by UNESCO. Porto Montenegro is both a fashion destination and a classy marina with the best services and a luxurious residential village. This impressive marina offers 450 berths and a range of high fashion shops, restaurants, elegant bars, and bistros, as well as a wide range of sporting, recreational and cultural services. All conveniently reachable from the nearby Tivat International Airport.
In short, the best way to end your Dalmatian holiday and… start thinking about the next one!

New Post has been published on https://tripsterguru.com/25-best-resorts-in-croatia/
25 best resorts in Croatia

More than 1,000 islands and nearly 6,000 kilometers of coastline characterize Croatia, located in the heart of Europe. Mountain ranges descending to the water’s edge, beaches washed by the crystal clear sea, national parks, healing thermal springs and rich cultural heritage make the sunny country on the Adriatic a favorite destination for travelers. Whether you dream of turquoise gentle waves, whether you want to explore famous sights, many of which are under the protection of UNESCO, or are looking forward to meeting with snow-capped mountain peaks – the best resorts in Croatia are able to fulfill the dreams of any tourist.
Dubrovnik

The unique city, as if woven from the rays of the sun and ancient stones, is the pearl of the Adriatic. Dubrovnik, whose history began 14 centuries ago, still retains the medieval charm of cobbled streets, magnificent palaces and churches. The view of the turquoise expanse of the sea, the fortified walls crowned with 16 towers, and the red roofs of old houses will always be remembered and makes you come back here again and again.
Greeks, Romans, Venetians … Many peoples left their mark in Dubrovnik reflected in famous sights. Nature boasts national parks, waterfalls, snow-capped mountain peaks and dense forests where bears, wolves and lynxes live. The coast attracts with crystal clear water, Blue Flag beaches and a variety of hotels: from five-star complexes to budget apartments.
Split

The unofficial capital of Croatia is located on a picturesque peninsula in the heart of Dalmatia. From the sea side, Split is adjacent to the islands of Brac, Solta and Dugi-Otok, the mainland is surrounded by green slopes of the mountain range. The city, whose origins date back to the III century, today attracts tourists with its bright turquoise sea, pebble and sand beaches, hotels of various comforts, cultural events and a rich nightlife.
The main attraction of the resort is the Palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, built in 305. It would be more correct to call the grandiose building a complex that encloses the entire historical center of the city. It includes fortress walls, ancient temples and ancient buildings. In addition to historical monuments, Split is famous for museums, theaters, summer scenes and art galleries.
Porec

The appearance of Porec is impressive – the city is located on an elongated cape overlooking the open sea. This small resort in northwestern Istria is proud of its two thousand year history and monuments of ancient architecture. Before the eyes of travelers, long-gone centuries come to life, reflected in the Ephrasian Basilica of the 4th century, the Roman Pentagonal Tower, which celebrated its 600th anniversary, and Marafor Square with columns preserved from pagan temples.
In summer, dance lovers flock here until morning – the largest night club in Croatia, Byblos attracts DJs from all over the world to Porec. Those who come to the resort for a relaxing holiday by the sea will also not be disappointed. For the cleanliness and excellent quality of water, most pebble beaches are awarded the Blue Flag. The best on the coast are Brulo, surrounded by vegetation, the ravishing Green Lagoon and the rocky Doni Shpadichi.
Umag

The westernmost point of the country – located in Istria Umag – offers travelers a successful symbiosis of beach holidays and an interesting excursion program. Back in the days of the Roman Empire, a port city existed in the harbor of the Adriatic Sea, which later belonged to Byzantium, Italy, Austria and Yugoslavia. As a result, the multinational population and historical monuments representing different eras. The proximity to Venice (50 miles) provides an opportunity to make a day trip to the canal city.
The 45 km long rocky coast of Umag cannot boast of comfortable beaches, the vast majority of which are covered with concrete platforms. However, this does not interfere with exploring the wonderful world of Neptune or dissecting the expanse of water on a shortboard. With the sunset, life at the resort continues. The promenade and the old city invite you to take a romantic walk, and discos offer you to immerse yourself in an atmosphere of fun and carefree.
Makarska

In the central part of the country, south of Split, Makarska is waiting for guests. Placed in the arms of majestic mountains and the emerald sea, the city captivates with an atmosphere of comfort and harmony. Those who decided to spend a vacation in this resort will be rewarded with the fragrant air of pine forests, developed infrastructure, familiarity with the historic buildings of the city center and the opportunity to visit the nearby islands.
The coast of the resort is divided into two parts by Cape St. Peter. The east side is used as a city port and marina. Fans of the sea and the sun have chosen the western bay. Along the coastline is a promenade full of shops, restaurants, nightclubs and bars. For children, there are playgrounds and an area with attractions. The promenade borders well-maintained beaches covered with small pebbles. The water here is warmer than in North Dalmatia, and the swimming season lasts until October.
Baska Voda

Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and the impressive mountains of Baska Voda, it is located about 50 km south of Split and is part of the Makarska Riviera. The former fishing village, which was first mentioned in the XVIII century, has preserved archaeological sites of the time for posterity, at the same time turning into a popular resort, which includes tennis courts, diving centers, bars and discos.
White pebble beaches await bathers. The most popular and comfortable of them is the city of Nikolina, over which the Blue Flag flutters. In the evenings, life is concentrated here on the palm-fringed Riva embankment. Restaurants and taverns overlooking the sea offer to enjoy a glass of excellent wine and taste the local culinary delights: grilled fish, seafood and Burek meat pie.
Tucepi

The second famous resort of Makarska Riviera – Tucepi – is an ideal place for a family vacation. The Biokovo mountain range approaching the sea, covering the coast from strong winds, and lush pine forests form a mild climate, creating excellent conditions for a beach holiday from early June to late September. On a pebble-strewn 4-kilometer coast, few hotels are concentrated, but almost all of them have professional children’s animation.
Tucepi will also love active tourists – SKATINA Sports Center is equipped with tennis courts, a football field, badminton, handball and basketball courts. Bicycle, catamaran and diving equipment rental is available. Fans of nightlife will be bored here – the resort has no discos and noisy events.
Rovinj

Walking through the labyrinths of white-tiled streets of Rovinj, you can forget for a moment that you are in Croatia – the romantic old town looks like a fabulous Venice. The pearl of Italy is also reminded of houses descending to the very edge of the water, and the 62-meter bell tower of the Church of St. Euthymius, surprisingly similar to Campanila of St. Mark’s Cathedral. Around the sights, life is in full swing: souvenir shops are selling, fashionable restaurants and traditional taverns are inviting customers, the old Trevisol Street is teeming with tourists.
The coastline of the resort extends for 67 km. Here you can find areas with small pebbles, and picturesque secluded bays, perfect for families with children. The best beaches of Rovinj are the city of Monte, the small-pebbled gentle Lone and equipped with Kuvi sports fields.
Pula

The Istrian peninsula is one of the most popular holiday regions in Croatia, not only because of the famous beaches. Here is Pula – the oldest port city, combining historical monuments from the time of the Roman Empire, modern hotels, nightclubs, diving centers and picturesque sea bays. The coast here is mainly covered with concrete platforms or covered with pebbles. Therefore, going to the resort, do not forget to put special swimming shoes in a suitcase. If you come to the country with children, then choose hotels located near the sandy beach of Biyets.
Travelers value the city for the sixth largest Roman amphitheater, also known as Pula Arena. The grandiose building was erected in the 1st century BC. e. Over a centuries-old history, it has witnessed gladiatorial battles, and wars, and city fairs. Today, during the summer months, concerts and colorful shows are organized outside the 29.4-meter-high exterior walls.
Medulin

If you are looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle and want to spend your vacation exclusively on the beach, then welcome to Medulin, located on the southern tip of Istria, 10 km southeast of Pula. The resort is surrounded by dozens of small islands, chosen by lovers of sunbathing naked. There are all conditions for a carefree vacation. Great beaches, deserted bays and a turquoise calm sea await you.
The most popular beach is the 1.5-kilometer gentle Bjieca. For the delicate sand and the reliable protection granted by pine groves, it is especially appreciated by families with children. It will be boring here for active travelers. Medulin has diving centers, tennis courts, a golf club and a riding school. Evenings can be spent on the city promenade, which attracts bars and traditional taverns.
Opatija

The atmosphere of luxury and carefree life reigns in Opatija – a small town in the northern part of Istria. The modern resort combines a well-developed tourist infrastructure and historical charm. Originating 500 years ago, Opatija was a favorite vacation spot of the Venetian nobility and the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. It was here that in 1886 the first elite yacht club appeared on the Adriatic. Due to the many attractions and the availability of luxury hotels today, the famous resort is called “Croatian Nice.”
The coastline of the city is divided into several well-equipped beaches, many of which are marked with the “Blue Flag”. Here you will find trampoline parks, playgrounds, sports areas, cafes and summer scenes. The promenade stretching for several kilometers is an ideal place where you can enjoy sea views and try the delicacies of national cuisine in numerous restaurants.
Cavtat

About 20 km south of Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful places in South Dalmatia. Due to its proximity to the airport (5 km), Cavtat is one of the most popular resorts in Croatia. Its history goes back over 2 thousand years. The city experienced many historical events that were reflected in unique architectural monuments representing the styles of Baroque, Renaissance, Gothic and Classicism. The most famous of them are the Church of St. Nicholas of the 15th century, the Princely Palace, a stone staircase leading to the hill and the mausoleum of the Racic family.
Cavtat cannot boast of having entertainment centers and night clubs. People come here for a relaxing holiday. The tiny resort is rich in picturesque parks, cozy harbors, suitable for fishing or scuba diving and, of course, magnificent beaches. At the disposal of tourists there is a well-equipped city Underground Gose, surrounded by pine trees, pebble Punta Rata and two-kilometer Vela Plaza.
Sibenik

The charming old center with cultural and historical sights, narrow streets, shops, cafes and a spectacular promenade make Sibenik a worthy place to relax on the Adriatic coast. For the first time, the resort of North Dalmatia was mentioned in documents of 1066, which gives the right to call it the oldest city in the country. Built as the residence of the king of Croatia, for centuries Šibenik belonged to Venice, Austria-Hungary, Yugoslavia.
During military conflicts in Turkey, it served as the pillar of Christian civilization, as evidenced by the fortress that has survived to this day. Those who come to Sibenik for the turquoise water area should pay attention to the small-pebble beach Banj, suitable for families with children, and one of the best sandy beaches in the country – the 4-km Solaris.
Lovran

Lovran is one of the first settlements in the north of Istria, already in the early Middle Ages serving as an important shipbuilding center. The city turned into an attractive resort at about the same time as Opatija, located 6 km away. Since the mid-19th century, tourism has been a major industry in the local economy. The mansions, formerly owned by Austro-Hungarian aristocrats, now offer guests of Croatia comfortable rooms with excellent service.
Lovran is attractive to travelers all year round. In summer, tourists expect clean beaches, framed by lush subtropical vegetation. With the onset of autumn, the time comes for theme festivals, and in the winter a sailing regatta and a traditional carnival will take place. An important direction of the resort is a wellness vacation. The Wellness Medical Spa Center complex offers thalassotherapy sessions, massages and therapeutic mud treatments.
Rab Island

Shrouded in legends, Rab, caressed by the sun for 2,499 hours a year, is located in the northern part of the country, in Kvarner Bay. You can get here by ferry leaving the port of Yablunytsya. New arrivals on the island it seems that it consists entirely of bare rocks. But it is worth getting to know this land better, as it opens its guests to dense vegetation, fertile fields and blue lagoons.
The island is small – an area of 93.6 km2 can be bypassed in one day. During this trip, you will get acquainted with the capital of the island – the city of Rab, famous for its medieval monasteries and churches, small villages, and, of course, a picturesque coastline. The island offers beaches for every taste, but the most popular is the sandy Rajska plaža, loved by both families with children and active tourists who are fond of water sports.
Brioni Island

The Brioni Archipelago, comprising 14 small islands, extends along the southwestern coast of Istria. These places are familiar to mankind since the Bronze Age. For centuries, the lands washed by the Adriatic Sea were owned by the Celts, Romans and Byzantines. The powerful of this world have always appreciated the mild climate and colorful landscapes. Brioni was the favorite resort of the Emperor of Germany, William II, and the party leader of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito, built here a summer residence immersed in luxury.
Modern Brioni is famous for its National Park. A visit here can be compared to an exciting journey through the jungle. Conveniently located in the wagons of a tourist train, you will get acquainted with the inhabitants of the reserve (elephants, antelopes, zebras, llamas), study the ancient exhibits of the archaeological museum and swim on a wild beach.
Island of Ciovo

A quiet oasis in the Adriatic Sea, remote from the noisy Split for 30 km, was chosen by families who came to rest in Croatia with children. Beaches with snow-white smooth pebbles washed by warm transparent waves are perfect for kids’ games. Locals advise coming to the resort from July to September – at this time you can safely step on the seabed without fear of prickly hedgehogs.
It’s a pleasure to spend free time from swimming and sunbathing while exploring local sights: the Monastery of the Holy Cross built in the 15th century and the monastery of St. Mary. If this does not seem enough, then go on an excursion to nearby Split, Dubrovnik or Zadar. Tired of masterpieces of architecture? Then you will find the underwater world of the Adriatic Sea, which will be studied by the trainers of a modern diving center.
Brac Island

Green hills and impregnable cliffs, cozy villages and the ruins of ancient buildings offers tourists Brac – the third largest island in the country. In Croatia, there is no better known beach than Zlatni Rat – similar to the giant tongue of the cape, covered with sand and tiny pebbles. All the possibilities for a varied vacation are created here – a paradise offers you to ride a jet ski, paraglide, explore the inhabitants of the sea day and master windsurfing.
If you are tired of relaxing on the beach, then visit the Blaz Monastery carved in the rock, the Annunciation Church, the mysterious Dragon Cave, the 16th century Kerinich Castle and the ruins of St. Vida Church, located at an altitude of 778 m above sea level. And you can pass the evening in one of the many restaurants. A dinner consisting of regional dishes is complemented by local wines, national music and the vibrant atmosphere of one of Croatia’s best resorts.
Island Krk

The largest island of the country, the images of which most often appear on advertising tourist photographs, offers its guests the opportunity for both beach and sightseeing vacations. On its territory are concentrated medieval cathedrals, ancient walls and mysterious caves decorated with stalactites. The coastline of the island of Krk is ideal for travelers with children – sand and pebbles will not hurt their feet, and a gentle slope is safe even for the smallest swimmers.
The treasure of the island is a national park blinding with its variety of landscapes, which is not inferior in beauty to the legendary Plitvice Lakes. On an area of 109 km2, covered with green hills, dangerous gorges and dense forests, about 850 representatives of the fauna live. Here you will find the ruins of the Roman Forum, as well as the Orthodox and Franciscan monasteries of the XIV century. A find for photographers will be waterfalls. The largest of them – Skradinsky beech – brings down its waters from a height of 46 m.
Hvar Island

According to Forbes magazine, Hvar, located in the southern Adriatic, is recognized as one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world. But this is not the only reason that annually attracts thousands of tourists to the island, in whose ranks Beyoncé and Tom Cruise were noticed. What attracts travelers to the picturesque coast, caressed by the sun for 2 720 hours a year? Ancient history that began in the III millennium BC. e., left contemporaries many architectural monuments. The nature of the island also charms.
The fields of the eastern part in June are colored purple and fill the surroundings with the heady aroma of lavender. Local beaches are also beautiful – the coastline washed by turquoise waves is suitable for lovers of a relaxing holiday (Dubovitsa beaches), divers (Amphora) and active youth (Hula Hula). In the evenings, Hvar attracts with its fish restaurants, chic clubs and bars. And the most romantic sunset can be seen in the picturesque fortress of the 15th century, from where a breathtaking panorama of the sunny island of Croatia opens.
Losinj Island

If you ask one of the 8,000 inhabitants of Lošinj what their island is famous for, then they will probably answer: “The pristine nature”. People come here to take a break from bustling cities, enjoy the beauty of pine forests, rocky bays, as well as gain physical and mental strength in health centers practicing aromatherapy. The local coast is rich in quiet bays, and a colony of dolphins lives in the water area, whose members can be greeted while walking on a yacht.
Planning along the streets of one of the cities of the island – Veli – you will feel the atmosphere of Italy. Ancient basilicas, Renaissance buildings and pastel-colored houses for a while turn the life of tourists into the coveted Dolce Vita. The second settlement of Mali is proud of a unique relic – an antique bronze statue of an athlete, raised from the seabed in 1996.
Kolocep Island

If you are tired of the ongoing noise of megacities and car exhaust, then pay attention to Kolocep – an island located 5 km from the popular Dubrovnik. On an area of 2.4 km2, 160 residents live, whose houses are located in two small villages. Cars do not drive here, local transport is represented by electric cars, bicycles and donkeys. Century pines, fragrant oleanders, crystal clear sea and coral reefs dominate on Kolochep.
The sights of the island are early Christian temples erected in the period from the 19th to the 11th centuries, the Blue Cave and the Botanical Garden. Tourists arriving at the resort are waiting for the only hotel – the three-star Villas Kolocep hotel located on a sandy beach. You can only get to it by boat leaving the port of Dubrovnik.
Korcula Island

The lush vegetation and centuries-old pine trees exuding a breathtaking aroma frame the picturesque coast of the island of Korcula, located in southern Croatia. The resort is known for the Kalos Rehabilitation Institute, which offers mud-based wellness treatments. No less famous is Lumbarda – a picturesque fishing village, in the vicinity of which sandy beaches rare for Croatia are located.
According to legend, the ancient city of Korcula was founded in the XI century by the warrior Antenor expelled from Troy.
The modern resort is rich in attractions that have come down to us since the Middle Ages. The tourists are always interested in the powerful fortress walls of the VIII century, the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Gothic Cathedral of St. Mark. The island is rightfully proud of its famous son – the traveler Marco Polo. Here a museum is dedicated to him, opened in the father’s house of the legendary Venetian merchant.
Mljet Island

An island in southern Croatia, whose coast is only 48 km long, is one of the most popular tourist destinations. On a small plot of land, you will find traces of ancient structures (the ruins of a Roman palace of the II century and a basilica built in the V century), and idyllic sandy beaches, and unsurpassed cuisine, and sunken ships, and a rich underwater world, attracting diving fans here.
The main attraction of the island is the National Park, hiding in its heart two huge salt lakes, narrow channels connected to the sea. On one of them you will find an island on which a 12th century Benedictine monastery crowned with a defensive tower rises. Today, a restaurant is open on the territory of the former monastery, serving its guests grilled meat and fish dishes.
Vrsar

The medieval Vrsar, washed by the waves of the Gulf of Liman, was created for leisurely relaxation and contemplation of natural beauties. The picturesque coastline, lovely bays and lush vegetation invariably captivate guests of the city. In the middle of the XVIII century the legendary heartthrob Giacomo Casanova fell in love with this place, whose house today is a famous attraction of the resort. In addition, in July there is a festival named after the great ladies man – a holiday dedicated to eroticism and love.
Vrsar’s beaches, covered with pebbles or concrete platforms, are equipped with the necessary equipment for a comfortable stay and playgrounds, making the hearts of young travelers beat faster. Coastal reefs and sunken ships attract divers here. On one of the 18 islands spreading off the coast of the archipelago, the largest European hotel complex, Koversada, is famous for its secluded nudist beach.
Resorts with sandy beaches

The Adriatic coast is recognized year after year as one of the cleanest in Europe. And contrary to prejudice that the local coast is covered only with concrete slabs and large pebbles, several resorts in the country are ready to offer their guests beaches covered with soft golden sand. The island of Brac is known to travelers not only as the most picturesque place in the country. In its southern part is the pearl of Croatia – strewn with sand and the smallest pebbles Zlatni Rat spit, resembling a 634-meter wedge that cuts through the azure waters. The coastal zone is unique – its shape changes depending on the direction and strength of the wind, so it seems that the beach is made of liquid gold.
Generous on the sandy coast and the island of Rab. The best beaches are stretched here near the village of Lopar. The most famous of them is Rajska plaža – a 1.5-kilometer strip, offering many picturesque bays and a gentle entrance to the sea. Sandy areas also hide among the usual pebble shores of Central and Southern Dalmatia. Those who like to go into the water without fear of being hurt by sharp stones will find it suitable for an active holiday in Bacvice in Split, surrounded by the pine forests of Uva in Dubrovnik and Punta Rata in the resort of Makarska.
What to choose for a holiday with children

The mild climate, a short flight, the gentle sea and the amusement parks that turn vacation into a real adventure make Croatia an ideal country for families with children. Parents traveling with babies should pay attention to the islands of Krk and Rab. Here are quiet bays and the best sandy beaches of Croatia. The resorts of Split, Sibenik, Makarska and Baska Voda are also suitable for families with children. These sections of the coast are equipped with playgrounds, and giant pine trees provide natural protection from the sun.
Families with teenage children will enjoy resorts combining beach vacations, an extensive excursion program and the opportunity for active games and sports. One of the best resorts for the younger generation is Dubrovnik with its picturesque coastline, ancient buildings, an old port and a spacious aquarium located within the walls of the fortress of St. John. If your child is interested in history, then visit the medieval Porec, where you can combine sea vacations with fascinating walks around the city, carefully preserving the architectural masterpieces erected during the Byzantine and Roman Empire.
Istria, located in the north of the country, will also be interested in teenagers, offering young explorers to visit the Dinosaur Park and find themselves in the amazing cave of Baredina. You can relax from the exciting walk through the world of prehistoric dinosaurs and explore the mysterious dungeon on the beaches of the resort of Medulin. Pine groves give a shadow that reliably protects from scorching sunlight, and a stretch of the beach stretched for several kilometers, strewn with fine pebbles and sand, invites you to soak up in sun loungers and go windsurfing or diving.
Ski resorts

Croatia, which many associate with the bright summer sun and warm sea, is ready to offer excellent conditions for winter holidays. A few kilometers from the Adriatic coast in December begins the season, which lovers are eagerly awaiting to storm the snow-capped mountain peaks. Ski resorts in the country are attractive for their low prices, professionally equipped pistes, picturesque landscapes and a friendly atmosphere.
Slame is the most famous place among slalomists in Croatia, located on the mountain of the same name with a height of 1,033 m. The 4 tracks laid here with a total length of 4,150 m are suitable for both those who take their first steps on the track and for professionals. The resort has hotels, cafes, equipment rental, chairlifts and ski tows. Belolasitsa is not only a popular resort, but also an Olympic center. For the attention of those who are familiar with skiing firsthand, 2 red (1 200 and 1 700 m) and black (1,540 m) tracks are offered. Children and beginners are not forgotten – short and gentle descents are prepared for them. Evenings in Belolasice can be spent at the restaurant or bar.

Platak, known in summer as a leisure park, is transformed in the winter into an actively developing ski resort. Here you can take advantage of seven tracks, one of which is illuminated at night. For lovers of racing from the side of the mountain on a sleigh there is a separate descent. The highlight of Plataka is the panorama of the Adriatic Sea, which opens from a height of 1,363 m.
Best time to travel

The tourist season lasts in the country all year round, so everyone chooses the best time for a vacation in Croatia based on their own interests and preferences. Lovers of swimming and golden tanning visit the Adriatic resorts from May to September. The hottest month is August. Air warms up to +33 ° C, and water – up to +25 ° C, however, the sea breeze characteristic of the entire coast makes it easy to tolerate even midday heat.
With the advent of autumn, tourist life in the resorts does not freeze. The absence of sweltering heat and a comfortable temperature (from +15 to +20 ° C) create excellent conditions for a therapeutic holiday in Croatia. The healing air of pine forests, the abundance of wellness centers, mud and thermal springs are located to it. In the heart of the country, not far from Zagreb, is the city of Ivanich Grad, famous for the naphthalan deposit – a thick liquid that has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and stimulating effects and is used to combat skin problems, diseases of the nervous system and musculoskeletal system.
From December to March, guests of Croatia are skiing fans. At an altitude of 1,000–1,700 m above sea level, the air temperature drops to -10 ° C. A stable cover is provided by artificial snow generators.

VOIGNIER
(Pronoucned “Vee-own-yay). Voignier is sometimes known by a somewhat unaffectionate nickname—”parfum de pute,” meaning “whore’s perfume”—however, the insulting nature of that name should be re-evaluated on two fronts. The first front has to do with female ownership of the female form and its desires, and further with sexual liberation in general. The second front, however, the one of concern here, has to do with the merit of the grape. Voignier makes its home in the Rhône Valley in Southeastern France. It is the only grape permitted to be grown in a certain region of the Rhône called Condrieu. Perhaps the sexual nature attributed to the wine comes from its capacity to be lush and soft in texture. Plus it is fruity (like peaches), floral (like honey suckle, or rose petals), and warm (like vanilla) in taste profile. The actual origin of the variety is not certain, but most people believe that the grape comes from Dalmatia (a coastal strip and a fringe of islands along the Adriatic Sea in present day Croatia). People think Voignier was brought from Dalmatia to the Rhône Valley by the Romans between 200 and 300 A. D, during the reign of Emperor Probus. When the Romans were forced out of what was then called Gaul (a historical region that encompassed France, Luxembourg, and Belgium among other modern countries), the grapes went uncultivated in Condrieu, until locals reinvigorated the variety in the 9th century. By the 14th century, there was even some voignier planted at the papal palace at Avignon. The grape’s growing season is long, its yields are low relative to other grapes, and it is particularly susceptible to powdery mildew—for these reasons the grape nearly went extinct in the 1900′s. The grape has seen better attention recently for its attractive characteristics including its intoxicating perfume and its full bodied nature.

Destination Focus: From Peaks to Beach in Croatia
Destination Focus: From Peaks to Beach in Croatia
If for you, as with many yachters, the summer months herald the irresistible call of the Mediterranean, why not consider Croatia? Chartering this Adriatic paradise can make summer cruising dreams of emerald waters shadowed by ancient cities a reality. M/Y The Wellesley (with TWW Yachting), Meamina (with Burgess) and Rosehearty (with Perini Navi USA), to name a few, will soon be heading to this mesmerising part of the world.
Croatia’s island-speckled coastline makes it the perfect destination to explore by superyacht. Here, the sea sparkles with jewel-like intensity under the Mediterranean sun, lapping at secluded pockets of beach. The best reside along Makarska Riviera, where you will find miles of sequestered coast lined with fig trees and olive groves.
Rocky seabeds provide astounding underwater visibility, and has made the region famous for astounding ‘in situ’ (on site) museums, including ancient shipwrecks such as Baron Gautsch off the coast of Rovinj, or Taranto near Dubrovnik. Not to be outdone, natural aquatic splendours include Te Vega Sea Lake, which is reachable only by underwater tunnel, and Bisevo Cave near the island of Vis, whose bright blue hue has to be seen to be believed.
Croatia is the ideal nautical destination, with the discovery of lavender-scented bays and olive grove-studded islets easily accessible by superyacht, not to mention the irresistible allure of soaking in the Adriatic.
Dragging your gaze from the green-tinged ocean, mainland Croatia is a fortress of natural and man-made wonders. The looming Dinaric Mountain Range hugs the majority of the coastline, carving out a landscape of contorted peaks, caverns and canyons from its limestone karst.
Inland, sublime peaks give way to rolling countryside. Vineyards criss-cross Dingač, Postup and Komarna, accompanied by wine cellars offering a plurality of gorgeous vintages from indigenous grape varieties.
And the country’s anthropological wonders are no less impressive. Croatia’s cities are crumbling mazes of ancient architecture that groan with historical ambience. Dubrovnik Old Town’s 16th century walls and the remains of Diocletian’s Palace in Split are particularly extraordinary.
Meanwhile, life on Croatian islands harkens back to a bygone era, with winding roads flanked by grazing livestock and elders playing ‘bocce’. Others exist at an accelerated pace of life, playing host to legendary 24-hour parties. The island of Brač is famed for its white stone topology and sumptuous delicacies of olive oil, sheep cheese and mandarins, whilst the sealocked Hvar is a popular playground for the rich and famous.
Between the beautiful beaches of Dalmatia, the fantastic food of Istria and the cruising idyll of the Adriatic, Croatia is a destination that will stay with you long after the Mediterranean summer ends.

Wine # 2 of my series - wines that I import and sell in my wine store - is this beautiful and unique Croatian white wine. This 2015 Griffin Single Vineyard is a blend of 70% Muller-Thurgau and 30% Chardonnay. These grapes are sourced from a single vineyard in the wine region of Plešivica. While many of our wines are from Coastal Dalmatia, Plešivica is an inland (continental) region. ————————————————— This unique premium wine consists of the full-bodied freshness of Chardonnay and the fruitiness of the Muller-Thurgau variety. Besides beautiful floral and fruity aroma, it has a nice, harmonious and rounded body. The nose is appealing, elegant with strong floral and fruity aromas. On the palate - a perfect balance of fruit, acidity and minerality. ————————————————— Winemaker Krešimir Ivančić has been making a name for himself by winning international awards the past few years. He is one of Croatia’s rising stars. ————————————————— #plesivica #plešivica #griffinwine #winesofcroatia #harvatska #croatia_lovers #croatia_instagram #chardonnay #chardonnaywine #mullerthurgau #müllerthurgau #instawine #winegeek #winegeeks #winelover #saturday #saturdayvibes #saturdaywine #whitewine #winetasting #wine https://www.instagram.com/p/BneJwVsherP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=v4cx5v4jzilt
