A/N: Okay, I saw this and immediately had to do it. The other stories will be posted soon, I'm a big sucker for angst and grief. I hope this is as sad as it was in my head, I want to bawl everytime I think about Dallas x Bain and the end of Payday 2 fr.

Dallas and Bain were exclusive. They didn’t share their relationship with others but they didn’t seek out other people. In front of others, they just seemed like the best of friends. Behind doors, on the other hand, they were often practically attached to the other. They cuddled, kissed, sometimes made love when the others weren’t around. Dallas and Bain were both completely content with this. Little ‘I love you’s were shared, along with soft and meaningful kisses and caresses. Dallas gifted Bain many things he had stolen, giving Bain little proclamations of love.

Soon after their relationship flourished, things took a dark and sour turn. Bain got sick. He was infected with something. Dallas’ heart broke at the sight of his lover getting more ill as the days went on, yet he never stopped caring for and giving love to Bain. He took care of Bain as the virus seemed to weaken him and start depleting Bain’s health over time. Dallas was completely devastated..

On his way back from a heist, he heard the congratulations from Bain on a mission debrief. Bain was so proud of him and his heart fluttered. He couldn’t wait to get back to Bain after this heist and give him the love and care he deserves. Dallas was antsy, though. Something didn’t seem right. As he made his way back into the safehouse, he knew almost immediately that something was wrong. He nearly sprints to Bain’s room, heart racing.

There Bain was, dead. He had succumbed to the virus shortly after giving out the post-heist debrief call.

And now here Dallas is, staring down at Bain’s grave with a solemn expression. His heart longs for his lover, to see him, feel him and talk to him just one last time. He wishes he could’ve told Bain one last ‘I love you’ before he died, but by the time he had made it back, Bain was dead. He tries not to cry in front of the others, tossing his mask into the large grave. He’s never loved someone as much as he loved Bain, but all good things come to an end. Bain was taken from him and now here he was, standing by his grave.

Dallas whispers a quiet, “I love you, Bain. I miss you,” before turning and walking away. He’ll never see his lover again, and that’s what hurts him the most.

So the OG 4 would HAVE to be the Elite Four (with Houston never letting Hoxton about the time he was booted out in favour of him for a year or two). Dallas would have to be the last of the Elite 4 members.

The Champion, of course, would be Bain (version 1) or Shade (version 2).

I imagine Bain would have a lot of annoying setups. Think stealth rocks/poison barbs, hex setups, dream eater setups, toxic stall strats, minimize/double team, and absolute tanks in terms of HP (Blissey et al). He would have insane luck where one hit KO moves always seem to hit (Sheer Cold, Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill). He would make Cynthia look like a Bug Catcher in Viridian Forest.

So like your headcanons and theories I love so much dude, I’ll try to encompass them to the best of my abilities also sorry this is a bit short

After the Bain went missing the first time Dallas didn't want to ever even have the threat of him being taken again, he obsessed over it. Every waking moment was filled with the obsession to never lose him again, so much so it was getting in the way of normal life for him, of course that also means heists, the amount of times he was nearing custody was ungodly, that all lead up to this moment in time, Dallas, Wolf, Jacket, and Sokol were in the middle of a loud heist Dallas was severely injured and hiding in the back of the bank to patch himself up, he was again nearing custody, Bain had warned him to be careful multiple times. But alas Dallas was running around the corner ready for battle once more, only to be greeted by a medic dozer his shot gun raised to his chest, he pumped the slide and pulled the trigger, sending Dallas backwards into the wall several feet behind him, a loud crack could be heard when he hit it, he sat there dazed for a couple seconds before he felt two people pick him up from under his arms, quickly snapping his eyes up hoping that it was his crewmates, still dizzy from the shot directly into his chest plate the only thing he could make out was the large "POLICE" on their backs, he struggled a bit trying to get loose enough to run, to no avail, he was quickly thrown into custody, his ear piece ripped from his ear, the last thing he heard was Bain's voice cracking as he yelled incoherently that he would try to negotiate him out, while also yelling at everyone else to find any hostage they could to get him out of custody, then silence. There was no comfort of Bain's voice anymore, no comfort that he was safe. He sat against the cold metal of the large custody truck, slumping over, he didn't care about his own safety just Bain's, he was starting to panic, there was no safety anymore, what if this was another set up? What if Bain was taken again? What if he died this time? He wasn't safe. Unfortunately Bain wasn't doing to good either. He warned him not to push it, to stay put and fix himself, to take a minute. Desperate to get any sort of negotiation, the longer it took the more it was apparent that Dallas may not make it out of custody. The panic of the rest of them not being able to get any hostages only adding onto the thought. He was distraught, for the first time he thought there was nothing he could do and this would be the last time he talked to Dallas. Everything rushed to his head, all the memories, the only time Dallas saw him was when the gang saved him, he wished he had come to see Dallas after that. The only time he saw him was after he was tortured, at the worst moments of his life, tears prickled in his eyes, burning. His typing became erratic anything he could think of, anything he could do. He called everyone he could think of. Tears threaten to fall at any moment, what could he realistically do to stop any of this. Nothing, he couldn't do anything, Bain couldn't get him out of custody. Dallas went through hell and back to save Bain.

Bain couldn't save him this time.

Story of Tonoita:

I DIDN'T EVEN LIKE TONOOKA UNTIL LIKE EARLY 2022. THIS MAN HAS BEEN IN THE GAME SINCE 2018. OUR FIRST INTRODUCTION TO HIM IS HOW HE LITERALLY RUINED ITARU'S LAST YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL AND WAS THE REASON WHY ITARU CAN'T TRUST PEOPLE ANYMORE AFTER THAT AND CLOSES HIMSELF OFF.

AND YET. GOD.

Listen, I'm not an enemies to lovers liker. And exes to lovers is the kind of thing I like when I make them exes, not when they're canonically exes (they never canonically dated but like come on. they're basically exes). So why did I start shipping them?

I have these Twitter roleplay accounts for a3, a handful of them, and while roleplaying a different character in the series, I joined this little server of roleplay where we'd talk about stuff and plan out events and whatever, and one of them was roleplaying this fourth character (Citron!) mainly, but also had a Tonooka account, you might be able to see where I’m going with this.

We had this friend who had the Itaru roleplay account who really liked to roleplay this other Itaru ship (with a guy called Chikage), and sometimes he'd forget to do the replies to other ongoing roleplays. so my Citron/Tonooka friend dm'd me about it since they felt kind of left out whenever that happened, especially if there was an ongoing thread with Itaru and Citron, and I was like yeah I get it. I liked Chikaita a lot but it wasn't my go-to Itaru or Chikage ship, so I was like “uh huh nods”, and we got to talking about Itaru ships, and they mentioned Tonoita.

They really liked Tonoita, who is kinda unpopular in the general fandom because he caused Itaru a lot of trauma, and Itaru's like the number one or two most popular chara in the whole game, so a lot of people didn't like him. But my friend liked him a lot and told me so much about him, and literally he only appeared in one event story in the entire game at that point but I was listening so intently, and then I was like “mhm nods i understand”, and hey u can come to me about Tonoita whenever u want in case you feel judged or whatever.

BUT THAT WASN'T THE KICKER.

I was still kinda neutral about it but I didn't dislike it, but the aforementioned Itaru rp friend went inactive, so after a while, I was like “What if I make an Itaru account instead?” so I did! and then, fuck, I literally still have the roleplay bookmarked. My friend was on their Tonooka account goofing off about whatever shit and I posted this stupid reaction pic of the press x to doubt guy and then Tonooka fucking REPLIED. And then we had the usual exes banter. And then it became real??? LIKE THEY STARTED CRYING AND SHIT?? AND APOLOGIZED TO EACH OTHER?? AND COMMUNICATED WITH EACH OTHER??? AND THEN LIKE. AGREED TO AT LEAST BE CIVIL TO EACH OTHER AGAIN? WHICH TURNED INTO BEING FRIENDS AGAIN?? AND THEN THEY STARTED DATING AGAIN?????

AND THEN I JUST WENT SO INSANE ABOUT IT THAT THEY'VE NEVER LEFT MY HEAD SINCE, LIKE, THIS WAS IN EARLY 2022. SO IT'S BEEN A YEAR AND I'M STILL VISCERALLY INSANE OVER THEM BECAUSE OF THIS ONE THREAD THAT STARTS WITH A PIC OF A STUPID MEME. MY GOD, I HATE BEING OBSESSED WITH THEM BECAUSE LIKE I CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO LIKE THIS SHIP (I KNOW LIKE. 2 PEOPLE AND I HAVE LIKE 200 TWITTER MUTUALS.) Story of NaviMind:

Once upon a time, one of my now-friends was posting stuff about them, I didn’t like it, but then I looked at the tags And she was tagging it as frEAKIN… DAIN… BALLAS… I DIED, YO. I couldn’t live with the fandom knowing the pairing as that so I conferred with my beta and we came up with NaviMind and MasterGuide.

Then I started interacting more with the fandom and started accidentally converting people to this pairing like it was a religion. KEEP IN MIND that I didn’t ship them yet??? Like actually I was talking about canonical things and the people I texted were like “It’s my OTP now” 😭😭😭😭. My record time from me meeting someone to converting that person was a few hours. Literally, I had a NaviMind aura, it was a passive effect.

Then afterward I actually started imagining super angsty things about them and I wrote about their friendship, and I thought it would be much sadder if they were in love but couldn’t be together because of Bain’s paranoia and Dallas’ refusal to admit his feelings. They’re already best friends in canon, I write it to where Dallas can’t live without his guy… yeah, I have the most fics about this duo. I’m still strong even though it’s been over a year.

OG 4 Payday gang as D&D classes:

Dallas - either Fighter (bit boring but whatevs) OR Warlock. Warlock requires a bit more imagination but what if the extra-planar entity giving him his magical powers is BAIN? EY? EY?

Chains - Paladin. He gets the heavy armor and heavy hits in. His dedication goes not to some Higher Being or Cause... unless that Cause is cracking skulls and making moneyyyyy. Let's just say his life experiences jaded him a little.

Hoxton - Rogue or Ranger. Rogue because teeheehee sneaky little shit. Ranger because very accurate with the shooting. I honestly think that either suits his personality.

Wolf - Barbarian. The high HP, you might think, would suit Chains better - he would be the tank, soaking up hit after hit from the enemy without falling. But the Barbarian gets to be ANGERY and I think that's the vibe they're going for. Artificer could work, too, if you go down the Wolf + sentries vibe.
