04x05 - All In Good Faith
A weapons amnesty has been called and a mother forces her son to put his catapult inside the donation bin. The young boy only gives in when Viv and June eyeball him as they enter the station grounds.
It's worth noting that this is the first episode that shows the front of the station as being Clement House in Dalgano Gardens. The 'David' hair salon sign across the road didn't disappear until late 2017.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Neither officer wants to update Ted on the case as he's been so uptight since becoming acting DI. Viv preferred it when he was an alcoholic DS as 'at least he was a laugh then!'
Tom, Jim and Mike are having a look at what has been handed in in the amnesty bin. Mike ends up with a knuckle duster stuck on his fingers through their messing around and Ted has to shout at them to shut up when Jim starts singing loudly whilst he's on the phone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ted is on the herbal teas. June asks if things are getting 'a bit much' He's not amused. He's even less amused to hear of another bogus gas man doing the rounds conning the elderly.
Christine calls Pete in for a little chat in her office, saving him from Yorkie's questions of how he can "afford to run a porche when [he] can't afford to run a pushbike."
Christine says she likes to get to know her officers and work out what makes them tick. She doesn't like to refer to other inspector's notes 'I find them boringly repetitious' she says with a small knowing smile. "You like to give the impression of being the strong silent type. The macho image. Am I right?" "If you say so..." Christine asks how many punch-ups he's been involved in since joining. Pete can't remember so she elaborates. "How many allegations of assault have been made against you by members of the public?"
June heads out with Mike. Mike thinks Conway is be holding Ted responsible for the conman jobs. June is surprised, she thinks Ted is doing a good job. She's also surprised when Mike tells him that Ted is teetotal in his efforts to become DI! As they're driving, a call comes in to report another old dear has been conned by the bogus gasman.
Ted goes up to Derek to tell him three guns have been handed in as part of the amnesty. As part of forensic tests, one has turned up as having been used in two robberies five years ago at Delmont Dairies. Pat Duffy was the prime suspect but Ted and Roy had to let him go because they couldn't prove it. However, a fingerprint belonging to Duffy has shown up on the ammunition clip of the gun. Ted is absolutely made up - he's wanted to nail Duffy ever since.
Christine tells Pete he's had 7 accusations of assault made against him just that year. He claims it's normal because he's frontline. She warns him not to be impertinent. He claims he's stating facts. She suggests his attitude causes the incidents and asks if he's considered how he speaks to people? "I treat people the way they treat me." He replies flatly. Christine tells him to consider what they've discussed as it would make him a better officer and all-round better human before she dismisses him. Pete smirks to himself as he walks out.
Derek tells Ted that different rules apply to arresting Duffy as the gun was handed in under an amnesty. They can't undermine the public's confidence in the police by acting rashly. It could also discourage further 'donations' of weapons. Wanting advice on how to proceed, Derek contacts the force solicitors department to see what can be done. He warns Ted to wait for further instructions.
Mike and June speak to the old dear who was scammed. The 'gasman' told her to stay downstairs whilst he checked her gas pressure upstairs "as gas rises so he'd get a better reading upstairs."
Ted's not heeding any of Derek's warnings. He orders Mike to meet them opposite Duffy's last known address. Dashers arrives before Ted and Jim and leaves his car outside. Jim questions if they really should be doing it given how they've got the evidence in the first place. Ted warns him not to question him.
Christine goes to speak to Derek about Pete but before she can he explains about Ted and the Amnesty situation. The solicitor's department calls back whilst Christine is there. They had to consult the Department of Public Prosecutions who in turn went to the Attorney General's office. Sun Hill are not to take action because it's not in the public interest given the crimes were 5 years ago and the gun hasn't been used since. It would serve no real purpose but could create a lot of legal problems as well as upset the local community. He rings CAD and asks them to contact Ted to get him in.
Ted speaks to Duffy's ex-wife who tells him he doesn't live there anymore. He left her for another woman four years ago. He'd tried to get his friends to collect his things but she wouldn't let them in. She felt his things still hanging around gave her false hope so she donated them to Oxfam and the like and admits she dropped the gun in the amnesty bin. She suspects he now lives on the Mountjoy Estate with his other woman. Ted sympathises when his ex says she gave him everything she had and he never wanted for anything. "Some men are like that."
Tumblr media
Ted and Mike head over to the Mountjoy estate. Mike says he could have moved again but Ted doesn't care - he'll keep digging. He wants CID to get 'at least one good result under [him].'
June is asked to attend another old lady who has had the bogus gasman call. The old lady makes them a cup of tea and explains that she knew he was fake because her husband was an Inspector for the Gas Board. He forced his way in and tried to go upstairs but she said the meter was in the basement - so off he went down the stairs only for the wily old girl to lock him in. He's still down there! "Do you think he'd like a cup of tea?" she asks June who laughs.
Yorkie can be heard in the background trying to urgently get in touch with Ted as Jim drives but Ted's too fixated on the fact he can see Duffy about to get into his car. Duffy makes a run for it with Ted right behind him. Unfortunately for Duffy, he runs into a dead end and can't get away, not least because there's hidden barbed wire on the top of the wall that cuts into his hands. Duffy claims he didn't know they were coppers. He ran because three blokes ran at him. He now recognises Ted and tells him that he's been straight ever since he left his ex-wife. "That's what the love of a good woman does!"
June contacts Alec who comes down and heads into the basement with Robin. He appears to have had a fecal accident whilst waiting. Malcolm is doing his best not to breathe through his nose as he searches him once brought in. Whilst he does, Christine orders that Ted report straight upstairs as soon as he arrives. She's horrified to hear from Bob that he's arrested Duffy and also requested a doctor.
Mike is reunited with his car after leaving it to travel with Jim and Ted. It's not a happy reunion. Duffy tells him only a fool would leave a car unattended 'around here'.
Tumblr media
Christine reports everything upstairs to Derek. "Idiot!" Conway cries.
Bob warns Ted that he has to go upstairs and tells him he better have a good cover story. Upstairs, Ted tells Derek that he didn't go out intending to arrest Duffy. He calmly says that, if Duffy isn't to be arrested, he must be asked about the incident so that it can be treated as a clear-up. "He's right. The guidelines are clear...." Christine sighs. Ted goes on to explain that it was Mrs Duffy who put the gun in the box to get rid of it after he left her 4 years ago. She still had all his belongings and saw the amnesty as a good way to safely get it out the flat.
Ted claims Duffy wants to plead guilty and that he must go and deal with his prisoner, leaving the two Inspector's behind him. "I'm not naive..." Derek insists, aware that Ted directly and deliberately disobeyed him. Christine says she doesn't agree with how he went about it but his motives were right. She's positive he'd make a good DI. Derek explains that his cards are already marked by Brownlow - he won't get above DS as long as Brownlow remains at Sun Hill.
In the canteen, Sun Hill wind Mike up about his car having had its wheels stolen. Jim offers him a lift home. "You can sit on the crossbar and I'll pedal." Mike doesn't find it - or any of the other jokes - in the slightest bit funny and neither does Ted who comes to his senses, bins the herbal tea and heads to the pub for a proper drink.

Bless you, Saturday.  You are a welcome change from the work from home quarantine life.
In the interest of being brutally honest, I’m struggling.  I was doing well, like crazy well!  I loved being forced to be at home with my family.  And mostly, I still do.  But, I’m finding that I’m experiencing wild mood swings and my highs and lows are extreme.  I’m set off by the most minuscule things making me doubt everything and my insecurities are running rampant.
I understand this is a reaction to the fucked state of the world and it’s stressful even if I try to ignore it.
A lot is going on with my work and since I’m not the teacher’s pet (which I always always have been no matter what job I’ve held) I’m feeling expendable.  Thankfully, my company was able to get the PPP loan so I know I’ll be employed for at least the next six weeks and even after that I can convince myself I’m good enough to stay on (unless my mood swings the other way and I can convince myself otherwise).  Overall, I need to remember not to work myself up over things that haven’t happened yet.
For the current moment, I’m having a happy morning and that’s thanks to finding an outfit I feel good in, straightening my hair, putting on makeup and the four cups of coffee I accidentally consumed this morning while I attempted a keto version of dalgano coffee.
I followed this recipe which called for 2tbsp of instant coffee.  Last week when I asked Kevin to buy instant coffee so I could make this, he (of course) researched to find the best instant coffee which happened to be this Mount Hagen brand which came in single serve sticks.  Turns out it took four sticks to equal 2tbsp and it wasn’t until after I drank the end result that I realized that meant I just drank 4 cups. Whoops :)
My whip didn’t get as whippy as what I’m seeing it could be and I’m sure that’s because I used erythritol instead of sugar.  Oh well, I’d rather not have stiff peaks and stay keto.  The taste was strong and different.  I ended up liking it more by the last sip than I did at the first.  I’ll make another one for Kevin when he wakes up but will reduce the coffee to 1tbsp since he’s much more sensitive to caffeine than I am.  Even so, this zoomy feeling this is quite fun and a delightful zing.
Oh and that haggard looking pic I posted of me from yesterday is at the end of a long day at the end of a long week where I was eating dinner with one hand because erp didn’t want to be alone.
Tl;dr: It’s not always sunshine and rainbows over here, but at least it’s the weekend.

02 01 1983 - THE LONG JOURNEY TO LONDON
Paal and Morten flew together to London with a bunch of demos recorded in Nærsnes, while Magne would follow them just one week later.
They started a very long journey in England, mixed with continuous songwriting and reharsal, full immersion in the London's pop music nights, useless attempts to find a record company. They could not play live shows, 'cause they had constant problems with the UK Immigration Office: often they had to return to Norway for some weeks, also to earn some money and go ahead.
After some months around Queensway and Dalgano Gardens, they ended up in a mediocre flat at 221 Dartmouth Road, Sydenham (in the picture). Life was quite miserable, since they could hardly afford a daily decent meal.

Update to my keto dalgano coffee adventure:
Made Kevin's with 1tbsp instant coffee, 1tbsp erythritol and 1tbsp boiling water. After 20 minutes of mixing in both the stand mixer and with an electric mixer it was looking like the first picture. No stiff peaks whatsoever.
So, I added in 1tbsp of heavy cream since I knew it would whip up and it made ALLLLLL the difference. Scooped it into a cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk and hot damn it was a cool creamy cup of goodness.
Definitely will make this again using the addition of cream.
