Don’t get me wrong, the round orange ones he sports in Kizuna and the upcoming movie are 100/10, A++, and were voted Best New Accessory two years running in Mimi and Miyako’s annual Friend Fashion Awards (much to Takeru’s chagrin; he bought so many hats those years). Daisuke Week 2023 Day 1: The One Who Inherits Courage

First adventure in Digital World. A desire to help his upperclassman. Digimental of Courage. Digimental Up! And finally, the said upperclassman entrusts his goggles to him (replacing his old ones which are broken beyond repair).

Daisuke Week 2023 • Day 2

Day 2- Blue Lightning, Lighdramon (episode 11)

sub prompt a) Making friends is hard, but Daisuke and V-mon formed strong bonds through their road. Let’s talk about some of them!

Friendships are important for children, and I love how 02 work in a non-traditional way: Its development is through relationships instead. Which means, a character’s development in 02 is shown by how they interact with the other characters through the story.

With this, Daisuke’s changes come from how he stopped being wary around those kids… And how he became friends with them in the end, to the point in Kizuna he’s going to pick Iori at school with Takeru so they can discuss about his idea of going on a trip with everyone to study ramen (which we know he could’ve done that alone with V-mon, but nope, he wanted to invite EVERYONE if possible!)

First things first, I’m sorry to disagree with Kiuchi Reiko (who voiced Daisuke in 02 and post media until Kizuna) and say the first person Daisuke considered his equal was Inoue Miyako. If you watch 02-or-even-Kizuna carefully you can see how both Daisuke and Miyako get along! He’s fine teasing her, having ridiculous siblings-like fights… But he also seems to respect her as well, and even care about her opinion when she’s gushing about Ken or Michael in front of him. And Miyako on her end, tends to care about what he thinks of her as well, and never tries to treat him differently – remember, she’s a year older than him! And if either of them call by something different, like Daisuke adding the ‘-san’ honorific at the end of her name, or her calling him by ‘Daichan’ (or, in the BR dub: “Dai querido” → “Dai darling”), they will definitely find it suspicious or odd. Their M.O. is just teasing the heck out of each other! Like… In Kizuna:

The first thing Daisuke says to Miyako once they meet in New York is not “Hello” or “How are you” – he straight teases her telling her and Hawkmon. And of course, she teases him back, because that’s how their relationship had been for years!!

Daisuke likes to tease her, as much she also likes to tease him – To be quite fair, everyone in Daisuke’s friend circle likes to tease him. They all love him to the bits. Even V-mon teases the heckie out of him too!! Though in V-mon’s case… V-mon is blunt and honest just like Daisuke, to the point he has no filter when he says things. Which could lead to Daisuke getting embarrassed in front of the others. But okay, Daisuke loves them all, V-mon and Miyako and everyone, so much he’s thankful for their support and being there in his life:

The Kizuna drama CD also has this funny cute moments of Daisuke getting excited for every suggestion given by his friends, and only at the end of the story he reminds them what was the purpose of this group trip. Not only that! He also credits everyone for helping him with valuable advice (which some of them said to not remember of it being legit advice lol) – which only shows how Daisuke values and treasures all of the five and the digimon.

Daisuke Week 2023 • Day 1

Day 1- The One Who Inherits Courage (episode 1)

sub prompt a) How was Daisuke’s life before meeting V-mon and making friends with the Chosen Children? 

You might know that I had headcanons for pre-02 events before, some were made before finding this track here, and some done after reading & listening to said track.

So, the first thing to notice is... Daisuke wasn't a courageous person before 02 events. This tracks with episode 1's events & Goggle Boy song. He wasn’t the kind to take risks and try to make a difference – he might not be assertive, but it was way worse than 02, in my opinion. So, he probably couldn’t do much for the others.

Did he have friends before 02 group and the older six? It doesn’t seem like he had any strong bonds with other children, besides Jun always gossiping about him about things like “my brother is not cute at all” but i don’t think this could’ve made children not talk with him. Maybe him being this too wary of mean spirited and shady people made him have issues – since Daisuke looks for people who’re more straightforward instead of someone who could later cause harm.

There’s also the fact Daisuke might be friendly but he suspects of everything around him. Possibly the kid who fears anything his mind cannot comprehend. We already know he does not like things he doesn’t understand – like ghosts – so this means it’s a bit harder to deal with it.

Was he a pain in the butt? I don’t think so either, I think Daisuke and Jun’s bickering was more because they’re too similar to each other (having delusional crushes on people, being loud, speaking for their mind… etc) to the point those strong personalities clash against each other. The Adventure Novel also had Jun gently comforting a very distressed Daisuke so… I think they weren’t always fighting each other and had a decent relationship as siblings.

I think he probably is pampered by his parents, since he’s the youngest, and they are… quite airheads. The entire Motomiya family is made of drama and dumbassery. But they can’t live without each other, or else, as Daisuke said once, “if one of us is not at home it feels something is not quite right”.

Daisuke Week 2023 • Day 6

Day 6- Beyond the Future! (Best Partner Kizuna- V-mon’s solo song)

sub prompt a) What lies within the future for Daisuke & V-mon? What do you expect for 02 THE BEGINNING? Theories? Wishes?

I just want to see Daisuke and everyone interacting with Rui :3c That's all -- I don't even want Daisuke and the other five to be the main stars of the movie. However I want something like Hurricane Touchdown was: A movie about Rui with the 02 group as the support cast.

→ I love @citrus-cactus and @timelessanimo Daisuke art ;v; (ok, their art in gen are sooo cute and pretty, check both of them please!!) also @demonoflight's Daisuke art too, but lately she's into Splatoon (yet i'm still recommending y'all to check her art, be digimon-or-non-digimon!)

→ Also, @shihalyfie wrote a ton of metas about Daisuke too! Sometimes i even poked her to ask about a few cool Daisuke/02 kids/02-or-Kizuna-in-general questions! Totes recommend checking her metas~

Also, my favorite headcanon things... And AUs...:

• The whole Legend Xros Wars AU thingy! Because it's focused on Daisuke and Tagiru bonding as mentor-mentee. Totally inspired in some media I watched as a kid, including Power Rangers Dino Thunder.

• Kamen Chef was my favorite dummy story about a mysterious employee in Chef Digitamamon's Chinese Restaurant (y'know, the oned from ep 36-37. Not the one from Adventure!!)

• @ladyofthecastleproject /Lady of the Castle series too, I didn't spent YEARS working on it and co-working with a few peeps to not have it mentioned here ;3;

• Also, for WallDai/Wallsuke fans, I have this AU thingy where Wallace got a third Terri-Lop sibling.

• Also my headcanon that Daisuke is a hardcore Sonic franchise fan, which I swear it's not... projection... I swear... He would love the blue blur ;v;

• Aaand my CSHM AU for 02 Group + Wallace. Which I'm still procrastinating in designing them...

• BTW, my headcanon solo-line for Daisuke's V-mon is: V-mon → XV-mon → Wingdramon → UlforceVdramon I like this line from CSHM game, ok...?

Daisuke Week 2023 • Day 5

Day 5- Welcome to World’s No. 1 Noodle! (Best Partner Kizuna- HEY-rasshai! duet)

sub prompt b) What’s your favorite extra material piece’s moment with Daisuke & V-mon? (Movies, Drama CDs, Character Songs, Media Crossovers, etc)

There's a ton of extra-material stuff I love, and y'all know it~~

First, there’s MenAS which led me to love Daisuke’s failed attempt to become a villain – Daisuke Kaiser – which got stopped by Ken and Pucchiemon. Everyone who knows me is aware of my passion for this drama CD hehe~ Also Kiuchi’s impersonation of Park’s Kaiser laugh is so funny and cute!

Then, there’s Natsu e no Tobira drama CD too, which was the first Drama CD material to go serious and angsty with Daisuke – also has the beautiful response-song “Reach for You” – which is the answer to Natchan’s “Only Lonely” song. I think this drama CD only convinced me Daisuke can be used for a serious story. I love how this story also includes Wallace and Gummymon, and I love Natchan portrayal too. I totally recommend listening to it while reading Onkei’s translation.

And there’s Goggle track from Original Stories Spring 2003, where we learn a bit more of the hidden lore from Daisuke – about how he was a victim of Vamdemon who witnessed Taichi and the Chosen Children saving Odaiba and thus he started to try to become strong in order to protect his family and everyone. This tracks pretty much with the BelialVamdemon showdown scene, huh? Ah, this track was written by the series director Kakudou, so I think this has been there since 02 started its production…

And then there’s Kizuna material where the drama CD is all about Daisuke wanting to go on a trip with his friends while he’s doing his research! It’s so cute seeing him getting excited about every suggestion given by his friends~ Not to mention Dai-Vee duet HEY-rasshai! which is very funny to listen to and I love how they’re still bickering in the middle of a song!

About movies, Hurricane Touchdown (if you want to watch with good subs, please search for “Hudie subs”), Diablomon Strikes Back and Kizuna (please search for "L subs" or "Kizuna" fansubs because the official ones mistranslated a ton of things!!) as a whole are still my top favorite digi-movies with lots of cool Daisuke moments in them that I cannot pick one now oof ;v;

But from the classics… 2-TOP duet and Ashita are my top favorite songs of all time. 2-TOP is pretty funny and they even seem to bicker during the song~ Meanwhile Ashita is the song I listen to when I feel down, because this pretty song with positive and optimistic lyrics can calm my soul and make me keep doing my best!!

Daisuke Week 2023 Day 2: Blue Lightning, Lighdramon

Digimental of Friendship. More precisely, Crest of Friendship. Said word is such an alien concept for Daisuke. He has no idea what exactly the friendship is. Especially the part, “Let them fight to be friends.” 

As one of Chosen Children newcomers, the idea of fighting against Digimon partner for saving from brainwashing (even killing as the last resort) confuses the hell out of him. Even Taichi and Yamato are okay with such idea (though they in fact don’t want to do such thing). It is Takeru’s statement that sets him off. Daisuke rightfully accuses Takeru for being heartless, resulting in their fight (which happens twice). It is before Daisuke realizes that Takeru really has no option but fighting MetalGreymon as it “awakens” his trauma in Patamon’s death three years ago. It is Takeru’s uncharacteristically explosive tone that offends Daisuke at most. Cursing himself for not acknowledging Takeru’s feelings, Daisuke at last obtains the Digimental of Friendship and save MetalGreymon.

A summary about Daisuke’s trial in 02 Episode 11. For the sake of accuracy in characterization, I recommend watching original JP version. The US English dub version changes and alters a lot of scripts which alters the characterizations, especially in Daisuke and Takeru’s parts.

Daisuke Week 2023 • Day 3

Day 3- Jogress Evolution! Now, Two Hearts Become One (episode 26)

sub prompt a) Daisuke is a stubborn person who can make the impossible be possible. Which Daisuke & V-mon scenes were the most important for you?

I have nothing else to say about this scene and how important it is for me. Episode 26 is one of the episodes I remember pretty well for ages, because it was the part where I got its strong impression of Daisuke’s kindness and how much he cares about people.

This scene is exactly like the Japanese version in the BR dub, the only difference is… Heck, I think there’s no difference! The dub probably quoted the Japanese version pretty well, to the point watching it in Japanese for the first time felt like reliving the first time I watched this as a child.

Also, Shiha had covered a few things about Daisuke’s portrayal before (tbh she had covered Daisuke in a ton of meta posts) – and I have to say Kiuchi Reiko is the main reason I love Daisuke in the first place. I’m not saying Bruno Pontes (our BR dub Davis) was bad at conveying the character’s feelings (he was pretty good in this entire series tbh) – It’s that in this entire scene you can feel Daisuke is on the verge of tears in the Japanese version. Daisuke is facing someone who’s about to throw his life away to repent for his sins!! And we know how Daisuke does not like to sit and watch when something like this or painful is happening (remember episode 20?) – So he puts his heart and soul to stop Ken from risking his life.

Y’know, this episode has a huge importance in my life, as a teen I had a depressive episode and rewatching 02, rewatching this whole episode again, made me realize I want to do many things and I shouldn’t give up. Daisuke keeps remembering to never give up on my dreams and on my own life.As a kid, this episode had a huge impact on me because of Paildramon and Beat Hit! playing in the background (yes, the BR dub had the original score, except for the OP and ED, which were changed… However the ED1 has played once on a preview episode, and the OP was still in the series when Imperialdramon evolves/changes modes. Also, the epilogue Had Butter-Fly which did not happen in Adventure BR dub) – As a teen and adult, this episode’s impact is in Daisuke’s kind words to Ken, encouraging the other to keep living and making his dreams come true.

Daisuke Week 2023 Day 3: Jogress Evolution! Now, Two Hearts Become One

Befriending the former enemy who is atoning his sins is surely not easy. However, Daisuke’s unwavering heart is in the right place. By successfully understanding Ken’s feelings and urging him to keep living, Daisuke (with Ken) successfully unlocks the new evolution: Jogress evolution.

 A quick summary about Daisuke’s effort in make friends with Ken (and put efforts in understanding his feelings) in Episode 26.
