the mental health issues your mother causes should fr be studied; from the guilt tripping to holding onto the victim mentality for dear life to being so inconsiderate.

There's an incredibly obvious and specific market that a lot of Convention runners aren't cornering: southern/southwestern cons held during the winter and fall
What do I mean by this?
The southern/southwestern US is notoriously hot, Texas specifically was 100+ degrees for around 7 months straight during 2023, and went without rain for about 8. It also just so happens that con season is during the summer and spring where the heat is at its worst. Cosplaying becomes a hassle and at some points dangerous due to the immense heat from outside.
Galaxycon Austin 2023 was a perfect example of this, where people were dropping from heat exhaustion from waiting outside because the Austin Convention Center doesn't have shade outside and it was 110 before noon
The solution? The south needs more cons held between the months of September-March, so that southerners can enjoy cosplay and the safe space that cons provide without needing to take in gallons of water to not pass out from heat exhaustion within the first 20 minutes

This dude's opinions are pretty strong, and I don't think I 100% fully agree with them, but it is a stance on generations interactions with tech / the real world I hadn't really thought about. AND it also got me thinking about GenX...
My parents are Boomers, my older bro is GenX (me and my lil bro are Millennials) - and it's crazy to think about how GenX basically disappeared from the cultural zeitgeist. What I mean is; growing up in the late 80's / all of the 90's, GenX was everything. All of pop culture was directed towards them, politics were either fighting agains them or trying to win them over, parents were constantly trying to figure them out...they were everything. Even nowadays, GenZ is dressing like them, listening to their music, editing their content to look like it came from that era, etc. But actual GenX'ers aren't talked about in that context at ALL anymore. For example; Elon Musk is part of GenX, but I'm willing to bet everyone considers him to be just a crusty old guy. For the most part I feel like GenX has been lumped in with Boomers as being "out of touch old people" in a way that Millennials won't be - because of our connection to popculture, tech and the online world in the way that is talked about in the attached video! Also in a much simpler way; you just never hear the term "Gen X" being thrown around anymore. It's like one of the most powerful generations who built themselves up as being "against the grain" allowed themselves to be swallowed up by the people they claimed to be against. Kinda sad.

[15/300] "Eating a sleeve of saltines in my underwear watching Carlito's Way!"
Man, when it hits you that you really like drinking alcohol but the thing you like drinking is a relatively lightweight cocktail and you get called out for it, it's like "Yeah, I know it's a basic AF cocktail. But it's MY basic AF cocktail of choice, mmmkay?" --- It was kinda funny to gauge my wife's reaction to my friend stealth-calling me out for being a "lightweight", but probably the funniest thing was, like, how I got oddly defensive about the whole thing. --- But screw it, y'know? Just like the concept of comfort food, a comfort drink is also a matter of choice and, again, I just drink one per occasion, if we were talking about drinking on the clock or something, yeah, I could see that being a problem, but I only have one every third or fourth day once I clock out of work, y'know? --- And again, it's a whiskey ginger! It's basically like drinking soda, only slightly funkier, y'know? Let an old fart enjoy his poison of choice. Most local beer doesn't even do a thing for me, so please, let me enjoy my goofy drink. Kisses + hugs, and I'll read you later, alligator!
